Waffle House
AN: I went to Denny’s and all I could think about was college Toshi exhausted and needing food at 2am, going to Denny’s or Waffle House not because the food is good but because it’s a staple american restraunt. He's such a westaboo ♥
The exhaustion settling deep into his bones is obvious as your little group sits down in the creaking leather booth. David sits across from you and opens his straw, balling up the paper sleeve and flicking it right between Toshinori's thick eyebrows. The man doesn't even flinch, just keeps leaning onto your side, his cheek resting on the top of your head as he melts into his seat. You reach your arm up and pat his cheek, careful of the Hello Kitty band-aid on his jaw line. His bangs tickle your nose and cheeks where they dangle, and you refuse to move them.
After classes all day, David and Toshinori had gone on patrol. They had handled everything perfectly, the only mark of their work being the shallow cut on Toshinori's jaw and the exhausted stares they had both given you when they walked into your shared apartment. You had simply raised an eyebrow and asked-
"Did you remember Mr. Sampson's essay is due first thing in the morning?" Twenty pages and you were already half way done.
They both froze in place, David in the process of shrugging off his signature hoodie, and Toshinori with his hand braced on the wall as he pulled off his massive boot. They looked at you like you had just kicked them out.
"I'll take that as a 'no'. C'mon boys, let's get started."
And that is how, hours later, you find your little group in a Waffle House at 2am for breakfast munchies.
"Damn Toshi, you're actually dead aren't you." David teases, sharing a smile with you. His words are met with quiet grumbling.
"Well at least you get the true american experience, baby." You coo, looking up but unable to see him without actually moving your head. Another thing you refuse to do. Your boyfriend is tired, and it's your job to be a perfect pillow while he waits for his five stack of berry pancakes and biscuits to arrive. "Doesn't get more american than Waffle House." David huffs a laugh at your words. You hear Toshinori mumble above you. You also feel the vibrations of his voice through where his chest is pressed against your side.
"Oh joy. It's everything I ever wanted." His deadpan delivery sends you and David into a fit of laughter, and you feel Toshinori's arm wrap tighter around your waist where it was resting. He nuzzles further into your hair.
In one of the corner booths you can hear a group of drunk friends laughing and teasing each other. The ventilation from the kitchen is buzzing loud, a constant drone in the background as the line cook on duty moves back and forth behind the order window.
You grab Toshinori's free hand, the one laying limp in his lap, and bring it up to press firm but gentle kisses into the skin. David yawns and stretches across from you, and it sets your own yawn off. You feel Toshinori yawn above you seconds after your own.
When your food finally arrives you manage to convince Toshinori to sit up straight, though he does grumble the whole time.
"Just eat your midnight breakfast and then we can go to bed, okay baby?" You coo into his ear. His blue eyes peak open and stare at his pancakes like he doesn't recognize them as food. As you cut off a piece to feed him with your own fork, David tears into his own hash browns, nearly rabid with hunger.
Toshinori finally manages to work up the energy to take the bite of berry pancake you offer, grabbing your fork from you. You steal his own fork as recompense. The taste of food seems to remind him that he is in fact, alive, and Toshinori begins tearing into his own food with the same rabid fervor as David, the usual polite manners Toshinori eats with gone like they never existed.
You press another kiss to his cheek and tuck into your own food.

Every single Brawl Stars character as songs
So, I was unhappy with my prior posts on this topic, both because of the song choices I made and because I didn't properly credit the musicians behind them. Ergo, I'm going to compile all of the brawlers into a single list below the cut, and then update and reblog this post each time a new brawler is released.
Feedback regarding song choices is encouraged if you think you have a better fit for a character.

movies i've watched recently
Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) - 10/10
mr & mrs smith is a relic of a long-forgotten era of film history that we are desperate to get back to. a film that doesn't take itself too seriously and leans into its own absurdity, mr & mrs smith is extraordinarily fun, sexy, charming, and ridiculous. it's the perfect romcom, and that's just based on the plot alone, which is to say nothing about the actors themselves. even accounting for the way brad pitt is, at all times, painfully dead behind the eyes in a way that verges on disturbing, his technique is flawless, as well as his comedic timing. and though it doesn't need to be said, yes, his chemistry with angelina jolie really is that good. good enough to be, quite literally, history-altering.
the rise of "brangelina" ushered in a new era of pop culture that we still see the effects of to this day and, after seeing the movie, i finally understand why. they play off of each other so naturally, so sensually it makes them completely magnetic to watch. all good things - both their marriage, and the era of good romcoms - must come to an end but god, we got some good treats out of them.
Jack Reacher (2012) - 5/10
honestly? this movie was not as bad as i thought it would be. i went into this film expecting another bland political thriller, propaganda patriotism wrapped up in us military dicksucking and, full disclosure, there definitely was a hint of that here and there, by nature of the titular character's army background. but, at its core, jack reacher is a murder mystery wrapped in a thriller wrapped in something that could have been romance in another life, if such a thing weren't considered "girly" or "gay" by their obviously aggressively male target audience.
the film itself was... fine. painfully unremarkable and everything you'd expect a thriller to be, with a few fun twists thrown in there for variety that make the film not a complete waste of time. tom cruise, similar to brad pitt, is an actor in possession of such extraordinary technical ability with little emotional depth to back it up. but he's a gift to the film industry nonetheless, and it's refreshing and exciting to see someone on screen who can hold their own as both an actor and a stuntman.
would i recommend jack reacher to a friend? i mean, sure, if that friend is sitting in the waiting room at the dentist's office trying to kill time and definitely not think about their impending root canal. otherwise, there are far better thrillers out there that aren't afraid to develop and examine the emotional beats of their story, and i'd rather watch one of those any day.
Things We Lost in the Fire (2007) - 7/10
things we lost in the fire feels almost like a precursor to manchester by the sea to the point where i would be shocked if this movie didn't, at least in part, serve as its inspiration. there are significant divergences between the two films - the most significant being that things we lost in the fire skirts the line of romance a lot more heavily than manchester by the sea did - but overwhelmingly, these films feel achingly similar. these similarities aren't just because these films explore the often banal and nebulous waves of grief, but because their composition runs parallel, in both large and small ways.
things we lost in the fire isn't necessarily a good film (though not because of the talent; the chemistry between benicio del toro, halle berry, and david duchovny carried this film, especially in places it would have otherwise faltered with a weaker cast), but it is deeply earnest and heartfelt in its creation. this film is a patchwork tapestry at times and often feels like a series of connected scenes that were rapidly, sloppily spliced together, subsequently making the pacing atrocious.
things we lost in the fire feels more like a plot driven narrative than a character driven narrative, which is an interesting choice considering the type of narrative. but the care that went into portraying this story and these characters keeps viewers locked in until the very end, to the point where even the film's weak spots, significant as they are, only add to the film's now-vintage charm. if i were someone who watched movies more than once, this one would be one to watch again and again.
#WE BACK BABYYYYYY#three whole film reviews this is like christmas#also i'm obsessed with how completely different the vibes of each of these movies are. but whatever#jack.txt#jack's film tag#things we lost in the fire#mr and mrs smith#jack reacher

Is there a masterlist of, like, actors and celebrities that have come forward for trans rights?
I know the internet has all sorts of collections of people who've done something messed up and those always depress me but reading about David Tennant being supportive in the face of the UK government and current legislation and stuff really hit me and I'd love to be able to see who else is out there standing up for us and what's right.
If not, here's a list I'm putting together, feel free to add to it or add context in the notes if you want! I'm including celebrities who have affirmed their support for trans family members even if they're not doing other activism. I'm also only listing celebrities I know of, and this list does not in any way endorse any problematic stuff any of them may have done outside of the topic.
Just making this list is cheering me up a lot tbh

The filming of the eighth season of Starz’s historical series ‘Outlander’ is set to commence in Scotland in March 2024. The pre-production of the same started last month. The upcoming installment will also be the last season of the show. The second part of season 7 will premiere next year as well but the exact date is yet to be announced.
The midseason finale of the seventh installment brings Claire and Jamie back to Scotland after a series of intense events, including a battlefield encounter that leaves the latter knocked out but alive. Claire fiercely protects him from robbers, expressing her anger at his involvement in hand-to-hand combat. Despite the tension, Claire’s deep fear for Jamie’s life turns to relief as they make their way back to camp. Meanwhile, Ian makes a move that sparks a connection with Rachel and Major General Benedict Arnold makes a surprising appearance. The episode also hints at future challenges, especially regarding Jemmy’s disappearance and Mr. Roger’s wish to exact his vengeance on Young Ian.
The eighth season of the show will adapt Diana Gabaldon’s ninth book in the eponymous source novel series, titled ‘Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone,’ set during the American Revolutionary War. The narrative explores the strains on Claire and Jamie‘s relationship amidst the war’s backdrop. While the show may deviate slightly from the book’s events, season 7 provides hints of potential developments. Gabaldon previously teased that Jamie and Claire’s tale will have a “happy ending” and the viewers can expect the period drama to end with the same.
The upcoming season of the show will bring back Caitríona Balfe and Sam Heughan as Claire and Jamie, concluding their time-bending romance that has been the highlight of the show. The returning ensemble may include Sophie Skelton (Brianna “Bree” Fraser MacKenzie), Richard Rankin (Roger MacKenzie), David Berry (Lord John Grey), Charles Vandervaart (William Ransom), and John Bell (Young Ian), promising heightened stakes in the concluding twists of the tale. In addition to the familiar faces, we can expect new additions to the cast as well.
Scotland also hosted the shooting of the previous seasons of the historical drama. Noteworthy productions like ‘Poor Things’ and ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny‘ recently emerged from the country’s vibrant film scene. The release date of the eighth season of the Starz show remains uncertain, with speculations suggesting a potential arrival in the first half of 2025.
@THE CINEMAHOLIC
Next year 2024 SH travels to Australia, 🇦🇺 We will see how long will he stay in the largest country in Oceania before Outlander starts filming 🎥 🦘

David Cassidy on John from Could it be forever? -My Story
During that time, I also got to know one of my musical heroes, John Lennon. When he split with Yoko and was with May Pang, I spent some time in LA with him at Elliot Mintz's house and spent a little time chatting with him. We subsequently had dinner together a couple of times. We'd go to the Imperial Gardens so we could be in a private room where no one would bother us. Later I flew back to New York twice and spent a little time with Yoko. She is very bright and I liked her a lot. I think she was treated unfairly by the media and the public. She provided a real grounding for John and a place to feel safe. She loved him for who she was, not because he was a Beatle. I later found the same thing with my wife, Sue. [...] During the last year of Partridge Family, 1974, John continued making the Rock'n'Roll album. I saw Elliot all the time and John and I would pass messages back and forth to each other through him. John came over to my house in Encino on New Year's eve 1974 or 1975, when I had just finished my world tour. Susan Dey was there and I had fallen asleep at around midnight on her lap. Elliot and John showed up and they had been drinking and celebrating. Susan woke me up and said, 'David, I think there is a Beatle in the house.' After slurring a few words to each other, John and I decided to play some music. So we went to my music room, where I had all my guitars, and we sat on the floor and I began playing the Beatles' song Any Time at All. It was one of my favorites. That and Mr. Moonlight. And John was like, 'Oh, I can't remember that.' He had written hundreds of songs since then. So I sort of re-taught him the chord structure. We sang it together and I did Paul's part. It was like being a Beatle for a moment. I was fulfilling a dream I'd had when I was 13, learning Beatles' songs on my first guitar after seeing them on the Ed Sullivan show. You don't forget some of the first songs you learn. We started playing rock'n'roll songs, stuff by Chuck Berry like Nadine. John loved all that Chuck Berry stuff and he knew it much better than I did. It didn't sound very good, we were drinking, laughing and just stumbling through it. I played him a song I had just written and he started playing me stuff that he was working on. [...] I had an interesting relationship with John. I related to him because of his abandonment issues and creativity. He was kind enough to give me inside into what I was about to go through. He'd been there and done that and was in the process of demystifying himself. Once we were having lunch together, he invited me to come to A&M studios where he was recording the Rock'n'Roll album. He asked me if I wanted to play with the other musicians. I did go but it was so crowded and almost every great guitar player you can think of was there. Harry Nilsson, Cher and lots of other people were there, too. At the time I didn't want to be part of the circus. I only stayed for around 15 minutes, although in hindsight I probably should have played. John had a fabulous sense of humour. He was more dedicated to the things he believed in than anyone I can think of. He wasn't seduced by greed. We only spoke briefly about Paul and his comments at the time were, 'Yeah, well, you know, that's just Paul.' I think John was deeply hurt by their differences and the fact that their partnership wasn't a partnership. He felt the competition with Paul who would come in with 15 songs and want to record them all. John told me, 'I don't want to be in, you know, "Paul & the Beatles". I don't want to be a sideman for Paul. It's not what I want to do anymore.' John Lennon had a very strong influence on me by giving me advice on how to start trying to live a normal life again. How do I find a way to walk down the street or go to a restaurant and not be paranoid? We talked a lot about that. There were certain things that I could say to him and he could say to me that no other people on earth could understand except perhaps the other Beatles and Elvis.

YES!!!!!
I just read this article and I couldn't calm down out of joy. We all know what's going to happen to John in the upcoming books, but it seems David is (finally) stepping up to the main ranks and getting the scenes he deserves. And it's going to be great!!!
„One of the great confluences of these rivers in season seven is the love triangle of Claire, Jamie and Lord John Grey (David Berry). Both Claire and John love Jamie "desperately and passionately," Roberts says. "There are so many layers and dynamics between these three people, and this season it'll definitely come to a head. I think a lot of people will fall in love with John again."
For her part, Davis says, "I cannot wait for everyone to see David Berry's performance in season seven. He's outstanding. He just kills it in this role, especially this season. He's really stepped it up."
Perhaps his performance this season will help seal the deal on the long-gestating idea of a Lord John spinoff. "Just speaking for myself, I think the Lord John series is a no-brainer," Davis says. "I would love to see that series. The books are great, and he's such an interesting character."
OMG! ❤️

LOVE your blog! 🥰
Thank you so much for sending this, anon! <3
Here's a direct link to the article for anyone who wants to read it: https://www.emmys.com/news/features/onward-outlander
I apparently had many thoughts on the subject, so the rest is under the cut. :D
I have to begin with: hell yes people are going to fall in love with John! The character is so interesting, and although I find it a bit tedious that we often sometimes only get to see him as this lovesick dude who conveniently shows up to solve Jamie’s problems, I think the show actually does a decent job of portraying him. Because he’s the character you want to know more about. In a show where you have so many characters, he is the one that kind of feels like a main character even though he isn’t one. He feels nuanced and you get a sense of him actually living his life in between making appearances in the show. And that’s something I don’t necessarily get with a lot of the other characters. (Okay, I may be super biased but still!)
Introducing him more firmly into the main story through a love triangle is a good way of at least getting more LJG in our lives. I hope they change the story a bit and tone down homophobic-punches-John-in-the-face Jamie, and I think they will, since they’ve done a great job in making Jamie less conservative in other aspects, too. With regards to what happens later with John, I wonder how much they plan to include in the show. But whatever they do, I hope they don’t run through a million things in a half-assed way and then just go “anyway, that situation resolved itself, don’t worry about it.” But we’ll see.
In any case, it makes me so happy to know that there is support for an LJG spinoff! It’s so true that there is good material to draw from if they were to make it, and I think it would be really great to get a historical show that had an LGBTQ+ main character. But simultaneously, I have to admit that my expectation for such a show would be sky-high, and I would probably throw a tantrum at the smallest historical inaccuracy. (So they’d better do their research unlike DG…) I know it’s historical fiction, but it can be accurate and entertaining. (Fun take, I know) My expectations would anyway be really high because David Berry deserves the world, and that includes flawlessly written shows where he is the main character.
And speaking of David. Oh my god, anon, when I read the words “I cannot wait for everyone to see David Berry's performance in season seven. He's outstanding. He just kills it in this role, especially this season. He's really stepped it up.” my heart skipped a beat. Like I don’t have praise kink, I have a ‘praise David Berry’ kink. I cannot even begin to describe how wonderful it is to read those words. He deserves it so much. I don’t even know what to say… I just… I don’t even know. Like he doesn’t seem like the most confident person in the world, so it makes me so indescribably happy to read about people explicitly saying that he’s amazing. And also the fact that there is talk of a spinoff shows that there is sooo much love not just for Lord John but for David as well. He is the perfect LJG. My heart is so full, anon! So full! And I absolutely get why you can’t calm down out of joy, because hard same!!!

The picture that will ignite a thousand memes, photoshopped pics, and everyone will interpret from their own lens as an Outlander fan---I present you, Mr. John Hunter Bell really starting Outlander Season 7 Promo right 😁 👇
Shippers will immediately cut out John and scoot Sam and Cait closer together. OR they will photoshop Sam and Cait's phantom 6th baby in place of John. Mark me. I bet they already did it. 🙄😁
Sam haters will say "Oh look, Sam's so vain, he's taking a selfie of himself." 🙄
The gay brigade will say Sam's covering TMGD because he has a hard on being next to John. 🙄
The sane, normal part of the fandom will see the pic for what it is: Outlander promo done in a hotel room, as per usual, 3 costars hanging out together, taking a much needed break, and Sam taking a selfie of ALL of them.
My personal take is: I immediately mentally replaced John with ME in between Cait and Sam. My SamCait threesome fantasies come true hahaha. And my next thought was: Sam smartly covered TMGD so that pervy, prying eyes wouldn't be analyzing the size of that bulge. 🧐 And by pervy, prying eyes, I mean me...and the rest of you. Get in line, bitches hahaha. 🤗
Oh, and it looks like hotties David Berry and Charles Vandervaart will also be at the Outlander Season 7 premiere tomorrow! 👇

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Paul Badura-Skoda, singer-songwriter Bruce Barr, composer-guitarist Glenn Branca, William Butler (Arcade Fire), Roseanne Cash’s 2009 album THE LIST, Le Corbusier, Kevin Cronin, Britt Ekland, my cousin Daniel Ertel, The Fisk Jubilee Singers (1871), Ioan Gruffudd, Fannie Lou Hamer, Thor Heyerdahl, David Hidalgo (Los Lobos), the 1929 film THE JAZZ SINGER (the first major “talkie”), Mylon LeFevre, “Swedish Nightingale” Jenny Lind (she filled concert halls before microphones were invented), Carole Lombard, Thomas McClary (Commodores), The Monkees 1969 appearance on the LAUGH-IN TV show, Meg Myers, producer Jim Pierson, Shostakovich’s 6th Iron Quartet (1956), Fay Spain, Millie Small, Matthew Sweet, Karol Szymanowski, George Westinghouse, and the 1965 single by The Supremes, “I Hear a Symphony.” The song is a romantic idyll for the wonders of a lover, and it was the 6th #1 hit single for The Supremes. It was composed by the incomparable Motown Records songwriting team of Brian Holland, his brother Eddie, and Lamont Dozier. They’d been writing since they were teenagers and wrote hits for The 4 Tops, Marvin Gaye, Martha Reeves, and others. Dozier said, “We were keeping up not only with what was going on at Motown, but in the world, meaning The Beatles, The Beach Boys…There was definitely a standard…Everything that came out had a signature as well as it had to sound like a hit.” Dozier said they’d regularly go to chamber, opera, and symphony concerts “for song concepts.” Baroque, electronic, ethnic, and orchestral influences became part of “the Motown sound.”
“I Hear a Symphony” was a turning point. Early Motown hits like “Money” and “Please Mr. Postman” were rooted in r’n’b, rock’n’roll, and gospel, and they sold mostly to teens, but Motown President Berry Gordy envisioned a broader audience. Ray Charles had already merged “strings with soul,” but his audience was older. The Beach Boys, Phil Spector, The Beatles, and other British Invasion pop acts cherry-picked ideas from musicals, classical, and the avant-garde (perhaps prophesying the “progressive rock era” when Keith Emerson would do Bartok, Bernstein, and boogie-woogie in one flash). By comparison, Motown was even more pro-active about marrying classical, jazz, and pop/rock to “soul music.” Motown arrangers (Paul Riser, etc.), were inspired by Broadway and the jazz orchestrations of Duke Ellington and George Gershwin. They hired musicians from the Detroit Symphony to connect elegance with The Funk Brothers, the Motown house band. “I Hear a Symphony” features the muscular drumming of Benny Benjamin and the distinctive baritone sax solo of Mike Terry.
Singing it demanded an exuberance that stretched the vocal abilities of then-22 year old Diana Ross. She still claims it’s one of her favorite Supremes songs to do, and it’s on my list of 12 pieces of music that changed my life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpL1TTxffO0
