Okay, so I’ve been thinking a lot about Yang 3 in 2D, and there’s two scenes that I really want to rewrite and it’s the intro (of the actual episode, not the flashback btw) & the scene with Mr.Yin. For the start of the episode, I wouldn’t start it with Shawn and Gus going to the station and talking to Alison— I would’ve actually kept them out completely because imagine this:
So the Chief calls Lassiter and Juliet to her office and this part is pretty much the same with her telling them about how Alison claimed that she was kidnapped by Yin, and they’ve been getting a lot of false reports so it’s probably nothing but they still need to make sure, except Shawn and Gus isn’t there.
And so Lassiter and Juliet are in the interrogation room with Alison, and Juliet’s still freaked out but is kind of freaking out and Lassiter can tell but doesn’t say anything during the interrogation: and this scene is also pretty much the same but like— Alison pulls out the photo right, and to Juliet and Lassiter it’s a whole moment because for them it’s just a old photo of Yang with some kid? (In my mind they don’t recognize that it’s Shawn until him and Gus sees the photo later— and that’s a whole other thing) But to the audience it would’ve been a whole different moment— because we’d know that it’s Shawn right away, and we’d be left wondering wtf was he doing with Yang?? (Which is what I was thinking after watching the episode anyways, but the way it is in my mind there’s a lot more emphasis on the photo than they did in the actual episode).
And I just never would’ve unmasked Yin. I thought that he was so creepy with his mask or whatever it was— it honestly freaked the hell out of me in Mr.Yin Presents, I would’ve kept it. I think that never being able to see his face just adds another creep factor to the whole thing, but idk maybe it’s just me.
And this is a very rough idea of what I was thinking, idk how to properly explain it— I just have so many thoughts about this episode and I could probably talk about it forever if prompted.
Idk though that’s just what I think, thanks for reading, have a great day :)

oh the Yin Yang episodes have me in a chokehold.
Like one of the best parts of Mr. Yin Presents is the way Yin is shown to have this... twisted, malicious admiration of Shawn. I think mainly of him having Shawn sit in that wheelchair above the little set, overseeing everything the way Yin is overseeing it all. He sets Shawn up to have a moment of Puppetmastering this game- Shawn directs Jules where to go, Shawn is the reason she gets captured, and Yin set it up that way deliberately. Then he involves Shawn in the process of this even further when he has Shawn make a choice between Abigail and Jules. He's playing with Shawn, but he's also guiding him, nudging him into this role of Puppetmaster, Capturer, and Killer.
And then when Shawn sees Yin, he asks, "She's under the pier, isn't she?"
And Yin confirms it. I've always seen that as a sort of... "Very good. You earned this," sort of moment. Yin is impressed, and Yin knows Shawn will save Abigail over capturing him, and I think the best thing to do for the 3rd would involve Yin trying to show Shawn "This is why you go for the kill and not the save." Like Yin trying to lure Shawn deeper into this cycle.
And the way Yin reacts to the photo at the end of the episode, it just doesn't track with the way they characterize things later. You're telling me he doesn't care about Shawn? That Shawn is just a random, albeit impressive, foe? That his only plan and end goal was to kill Shawn? No, it doesn't make sense, it doesn't align. Yin wanted Shawn to be like him, to be the new Yang, and I feel like a lot of Mr. Yin Presents is sort of him... seeing if Shawn is a fit for that.
It just feels so involved, doesn't it, compared to Yang? I mean even Shawn suspecting Mary was planned out, with the ankle thing Yin wore, just to get Shawn in that camera room to watch Mary die. That again feels like more than playing, it feels like prepping.
Just- guh. GUH

I feel like a missed opportunity in Yang 3 in 2D was that they didn’t have Yin wear his mask/face covering, like he did in Mr Yin Presents. I feel like if we never got to see his face, the episode would’ve been a lot creepier, because it freaked me out honestly, especially in the one scene in the docs where he just stared at Shawn— but you couldn’t actually see him, you know? But idk, maybe that’s just me.

This week, Maggie & Tim are joined by Yang herself. That's right, we've got the incredibly talented Ally Sheedy. Together, they all talk about Season Four Episode Sixteen: Mr. Yin Presents... The episode where a year after the arrest of Mr. Yang, a new killer starts playing games with Shawn and his friends - her partner, Mr. Yin.

"it was traumatic for everyone"
yeah... but your girlfriend was tied up and nearly drowned and your other girlfriend was dangled off a building, both of them knowing you could have very well chosen to save the other.
one girl already broke up with you over this at least juliet is only temporarily out if your life.
maybe like buy her some wine and take her to dinner
