Summary: On a lazy morning in bed David reflects on his relationship with Matteo, and thinks about Matteo's relationship with his father.

Notes: So this story totally took a turn from what I initially had planned (which was going to just be cute fluff about Matteo and David sleeping together/being lazy) but I actually really like how it turned out.

There's some Italian in it, which is translated in the end notes so as not to spoil anything.

I’d like to congratulate you on your fandom impact, I’ve seen the nickname monkey spring up in a couple other places lately

oh my gosh, really????? i haven’t seen it anywhere!! send me some links please i would love to see it!! i never actually gave an explanation for why i thought david would call matteo monkey. i just put it in the tags of one of my headcannon lists and then just started using it, but now that it’s been brought up, i’m just going to tell you my little headcannon, anon. 

matteo is the first one to mention it, the one to spark the idea in david’s brain that stuck. they were coming back from a party, and matteo was drunk off his ass. david was desperately trying to keep him upright, too sober to be dealing with his stumbling and laughing and suddenly very energetic boyfriend he was trying to drag home. “come on, matteo,” he says, trying to readjust his grip on matteo’s waist. “just hold on, would you?” he asks a little frustrated when matteo practically throws himself to one side. and matteo starts cackling immediately, for a reason unbeknownst to david. “what?” he asks, and matteo laughs some more. “hold tight, spider monkey,” he snickers. david stops in his tracks and stares at him. “did you just quote twilight at me?” 

david doesn’t want to admit that a movie has horrible and meme-able as twilight is what causes his most used and affectionate nickname to come to be, but once matteo mentions is, it’s hard not to notice the similarity, how matteo holds onto him like he’s a tree and clings to him like he’s able to wrap completely and totally around him. matteo doesn’t remember that night at all, doesn’t remember quoting the movie at him, but the first time that david calls him it, matteo is sleepy and cuddly and not wanting to get up from the couch to go to bed, entangling himself with david tightly to get his point across. “come on, monkey. let’s go to bed,” david laughs at him. “monkey?” matteo repeats with a yawn. “yeah, come on,” david repeats and hoists him up. 

matteo starts responding to it within two weeks.

Yesterday I wore baggy jeans for the first time in years, a hoodie that was too big and a slouchy jacket. I see this as proof that Mr Florenzi has changed me personally in many ways. (I also wore a beanie cause I need David power too. Tho beanies are kind of my thing)
