Today I learned that the horse that played Mr. Ed was not, in fact, given peanut butter to make it appear like he was talking. Alan Young, the actor who played Wilbur, made that up for interviews in order to protect young viewers from the "disappointment" of learning about technical aspects of the show and, I guess, making a horse look like he was talking.

"It was initially done by putting a piece of nylon thread in his mouth. But Ed actually learned to move his lips on cue when the trainer touched his hoof. In fact, he soon learned to do it when I stopped talking during a scene! Ed was very smart." --Alan Young

Extra facts: The horse playing Mr. Ed was named Bamboo Harvester, and his stunt double was named Pumpkin.

The gorgeous Connie Hines was a model and radio personality who became a favorite guest star on various TV shows such as Perry Mason and Sea Hunt. She is best remembered as Wilbur Post's wife Carol on the 60s series "Mr. Ed". Also, those beautiful legs are quite unforgettable.

My mom was at the park the week it opened, and she saw Wilbur from Mr. Ed (the voice of Uncle Scrooge) there. I was incredibly jealous.
