Parenting a teenager means that I resist the urge to ignore her plea that we NOT go to celebrations of learning to watch her Macbeth scenes and instead we went to the music performance! Sometimes I can’t with the teen attitude! I did rat her out to her English teacher and she informed me that she got a video! Leading up the MPS Awareness Day, which is MAY 15th, we want to educate so we are ready and able to spread awareness!

So what exactly is MPS? The body is continually replacing old cells with new, and to do that, parts of the cells must be broken down and disposed of so that the new parts can be built properly.

.

When an animal has MPS-VI, it has a deficiency of arylsulfatase B, an enzyme that breaks up the mucopolysaccharides so the body can remove them from the cells. The mucopolysaccharides that should have been removed stay in the cells and cause damage over time, as they don’t allow the proper formation of new cells. This leads to their many symptoms.
