I’m surprised—I didn’t think you ever paid much attention to things like that. Not that I blame you! You were always so busy, always focused on something bigger than the little things I busied myself with. But still… you remembered. That’s really sweet, Chiro.

As for the book… no, I never finished it. I think, at some point, I just convinced myself it wasn’t worth finishing. Or maybe life got in the way, and by the time I had the chance to return to it, the words didn’t come as easily anymore.

But now that you mention it, maybe I should pick it up again. Even if no one ever reads it, even if it’s just for me.

I suppose I never really thought about it—it’s been a long time since anyone needed to call me anything but “Shou’s mother” or just “mom.”

But truthfully, I never did go through with a divorce. Despite everything, I suppose some part of me never let go completely… or maybe I just never saw the need.

So, Mrs. Suzuki is just fine. It’s the name I’ve lived with, the one tied to the people I love most. And besides, I think it suits me.
