“You left him, Steve, you asshole! Don’t you think he needs you more than I do? Goddamn it if he survived all that and found his way back to you, don’t you think I’d be tough enough to manage the same? And no, it don’t exactly sound like a fuckin' picnic but surely he needs your help to get over that shit more than I do to avoid it?” Bucky demanded; his voice coming out all Brooklyn and fiery rage like Steve hadn’t heard for years. Steve looked at him incredulously for a few moments; it hadn’t been the reaction he’d expected but really he knew Bucky was right.

As soon as this Bucky was somewhere safe Steve needed to find a way back to his own.

Foal's fourth effort, 2015's What Went Down, is probably their most commercially friendly release to date, and manages to do so with tour sacrificing the band's signature sound. There's a mellowness to it that remains evocative of mid-career Radiohead, but the elements of math rock still shine through, as does a grittiness that feels similar yet separate from bands like Arctic Monkeys or Queens Of The Stone Age. It keeps a steady pace throughout too, each track melding with the next to the point where you could almost mistake the whole album for a single lengthy track. Damn good stuff, and the deluxe version on Apple Music features over an hour of additional content. Highlight tracks include the title track, Mountain At My Gates, Albatross, Snake Oil, and London Thunder. Available on iTunes and Spotify.
