A History of Formula One Grand Prix in the United States
After a near month long hiatus following the Singapore Grand Prix, Formula One returns this weekend with the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. This is the second of three races in the United States this season, and a lot of people attribute the increase of American GPs to Drive to Survive and the peak in popularity that caused over here.
That may be true, however, two things complicate this fact:
One is that this is not the first time there have been three American F1 races in a season.
Two is that Grand Prix racing in the United States goes back further than in any country other than France.
So, today...let's talk about the history of the United States Grand Prix, and Formula One races in the United States more broadly.
The first race that could be considered a Grand Prix in the US was the Vanderbilt Cup, held on Long Island in the early 1900s. The initial 1904, 1905, and 1906 races were held on dirt roads, however, in response to the success of the 1906 French Grand Prix, William Kissam Vanderbult II financed the construction of the Long Island Motor Parkway.
This would not just provide a paved, modern road to Long Island, but it would also serve as the setting for the 1908 Vanderbilt Cup, won by American George Robertson in an American-made car called the Locomobile. An American victory in an American race governed by the American AAA.
But this is open wheel racing in America, so of fucking course there was a governing dispute already.
The AAA raised their membership dues in 1908, that was strike one, and then strike two was when they refused to adopt the Grand Prix regulations drafted by the AIACR - the FIA under its initial name - which paved the way for the Automobile Club of America to emerge as a competitor to the AAA.
And their showpiece event? the American Grand Prize.
Yup, the ACA went down to Georgia, found a stock car race run by the Savannah Automobile Club, and decided to turn that into the very first proper Grand Prix in America. The state of Georgia authorized the use of convict labor to lengthen the stock car track to 25.1 miles for the Grand Prize.
It was held in 1909 and won by Frenchman Louis Wagner...who in 1926 would go on to win the first British Grand Prix as well. An impressive resume.
The tea drinkers can write their own blog though, more on the US now!
Come 1911, and both the Vanderbilt Cup - aimed at American talent - and the American Grand Prize - aimed at international drivers - would both be held together in Savannah, Georgia. They would once again be hosted together in Milwaukee in 1912, in Santa Monica in 1914 and 1916, and in San Francisco in 1915.
World War I would kill off European participation however, and after 1916, the American Grand Prize went away.
The Vanderbilt Cup would briefly return in 1936 and 1937, back at Long Island, this time at the Roosevelt Raceway. However, with Tazio Nuvolari winning in an Enzo Ferrari-run Alfa Romeo winning in 1936 and then Bernd Rosemeyer winning in an Auto Union next year, the American audiences weren't convinced.
The 1930s version of the Vanderbilt Cup just served as a big money race for the Europeans to win.
So the American Grand Prize and the Vanderbilt Cup didn't work out, but what was working in America at that time was oval racing on board tracks.
The Astor Cup, held on the two-mile Sheepshead Bay Speedway in Brooklyn won over the Long Island audience instead.
If the names of these trophies sound familiar, it's because in 1996, during the CART-IRL split, CART revived the name Vanderbilt Cup and built a replica trophy as the prize for the US 500. Yup, the history of the Vanderbilt Cup was used to go up against the Borg-Warner Trophy of the Indianapolis 500.
Well, after four years of the US 500, in 2000, the Vanderbilt Cup became the trophy for the CART championship instead. The Champ Car World Series continued this tradition.
When Champ Car and the IRL Indycar Series merged, the Astor Cup name was revived instead. From 2011 onwards, the Indycar series champion receives the Astor Cup.
Anyway, back to the F1 in the US.
Initially the World Championship for Drivers, in 1950, gave the US date to the Indianapolis 500, seeing it as the biggest and most important race in the United States.
This was in spite of the fact that the Indianapolis 500 was governed by the AAA - and later USAC - and once the World Championship went to F2 regulations in 1952, Indy and the rest of the championship weren't even run under the same regulations.
In fact, the only time a World Championship driver came over to Indy was in 1952 (the first year of those F2 regulations) when Ferrari took Alberto Ascari and a 4.5L V12 Ferrari 375 to Indy in an attempt to win the biggest race in America. Alberto would retire, and Indy would be the only stain on an otherwise perfect 1952 season for Ascari.
Meanwhile, road racing was returning to prominence in the United States as permanent venues like Riverside and Sebring began to emerge.
In 1958, Riverside hosted a United States Grand Prix as part of the USAC championship.
In 1959, the II United States Grand Prix was held at Sebring, and this time, it was part of the Formula One World Championship. This race was won by Bruce McLaren in a Cooper.
In 1960, the race moved to Riverside, where it was won by Stirling Moss in a Lotus. This was also the last year in which the Indianapolis 500 counted for the World Championship.
And in 1961, the United States Grand Prix finally settled on its first permanent home, when Watkins Glen was chosen as the venue. From 1961 to 1980, Watkins Glen was the home of the USGP, a stint that lasted so long that the first winner was Innes Ireland in a Lotus and the last was Alan Jones in a Williams.
It was not the only USGP though.
I'd like to welcome everybody to the wild wild west.
Yup, from 1976 to 1983, F1 came to the LBC, the Long Beach Grand Prix joining the calendar under the title of United States Grand Prix West. The 1976 race was won by Clay Regazzoni in a Ferrari, while the last four races were won by Cosworth DFV powered cars, giving Long Beach a reputation as the race that the turbo powered cars couldn't win.
Indeed, the first win for a turbo car at Long Beach was 1984, when it was a CART race. The winner? Mario Andretti.
The next race on our list came in 1981, to replace Watkins Glen.
It was the Caesar's Palace Grand Prix, held in the parking lot of the casino for two years before it too was shifted off to the CART series - which itself only lasted two years before going away entirely.
The 1981 race went to Alan Jones in a Williams, picking up where he left off at Watkins Glen.
1982, meanwhile, went to Michele Alboreto in a Tyrrell.
1982 had a third US F1 round - like I said, the current era isn't the first time this has happened - being the Detroit Grand Prix in the downtown of the motor city.
A tight, twisty track swerving through the heart of the Motor City, the first Detroit Grand Prix was won by John Watson in a McLaren, while the last three were all won by Ayrton Senna. 1986 in a Lotus-Renault, 1987 in a Lotus-Honda, and 1988 in the all-conquering McLaren-Honda.
In 1989, Detroit too became a CART race, but unlike Caesar's Palace, it was actually successful.
In 2023, the Indycar Detroit GP returned to the streets of downtown, racing around the Renaissance Center in a layout best described as "bleh."
In any case, 1982 marked three American F1 rounds, but funnily enough...none of them were actually called the United States Grand Prix.
Long Beach was the USGP West, which was a rather clunky title given that there was no USGP to be west of.
Detroit was Detroit and Caesar's Palace was just Caesar's Palace.
Is Caesar's Palace the smallest geographic unit to get a Grand Prix named after it? It's gotta be up there, right?
1984 was a similar story, as there were two American F1 races back-to-back: the Detroit Grand Prix won by Nelson Piquet, and the one and only Dallas Grand Prix, won by Keke Rosberg.
Dallas was a mid-summer race held in the high heat of central Texas and that was only the start of the problems. The track surface was crumbling, the fans were in constant fear of the event being cancelled from out from under them, and the drivers felt the track was narrow and lacking in runoff areas.
CART passed on this one, instead, it was briefly brought back as a Trans Am race before fading into obscurity.
Dallas didn't work out, Detroit and Long Beach went to Indycar, and the less said about Caesar's Palace, the better.
Was Formula One in the US dead after 1988?
Not if anything to say about it, Phoenix has.
Yup, Phoenix of all places stepped in to host the USGP - returning to that name - in 1989. This event actually lasted three years despite triple digit summer heat, a disintegrating track surface, and an uninspired layout threatening to confine the track to the same fate as Dallas.
Alain Prost won in 1989, Senna won in 1990 and 1991.
Ecclestone initially promised the promoters the Phoenix Grand Prix would be held again on March 15th, 1992, but instead, the race was cancelled.
Formula One would not return to the US until 2000.
Tony George, in his quest to make the Indianapolis Motor Speedway the top racing venue in the country, brought NASCAR to IMS in 1994, and in 2000, he created an infield road course. This infield road course has become the home of sports car racing at Indianapolis, hosts an Indycar race ahead of the 500, and has in the past hosted MotoGP, NASCAR, and F1.
This was great, right? Formula One was back in the US and it was at the same place which hosted all those world championship rounds in the 1950s. F1 had finally reconciled Indianapolis with its road racing nature. Could this finally be how the USGP finds a stable home in the United States?
Well, it was going pretty good...up until 2005.
The oval had been diamond ground when it was repaved ahead of 2005. Bridgestone - the tyre supplier of Ferrari, Jordan, and Minardi - knew this, as they owned Firestone, which supplied the IRL Indycar Series with tyres, as it does with Indycar now.
Michelin, who supplied the rest of the grid...did not.
And Ralf Schumacher crashed in practice for the second time in two years. On a Michelin-clad Toyota.
Then Ricardo Zonta stepped in to replace Ralf...and he crashed as well.
The Michelin tyres couldn't take the oval corners, which formed the big final corner of the IMS Road Course. The Michelin teams tried to find a solution - whether that be a chicane, allowing pitstops, or using a different specification of tyre.
In the end, the FIA and Michelin could not come up with a compromise.
And in Indiana State Law, if Michelin let its teams race and something happened, they could be held criminally liable.
Thus, the Michelin teams pulled out of the race.
A six-car farce of a race then occurred between the Bridgestone teams as the fans booed and jeered.
All of IMS's good will in F1 evaporated.
After 2006 and 2007, the USGP disappeared.
An attempt was made to create an American Grand Prix in Port Imperial, New Jersey with the cars racing under the shadow of the New York skyline, but after years of trying this never got off the ground.
Instead, in 2012, the USGP found its modern home in COTA. Circuit of the Americas weathered the storm of some truly awful attendances in the mid-2010s - including a soggy and awful 2015 where the teams hardly got any running ahead of the race - to rebound and become one of the most highly attended races in history by the 2020s.
In 2022, the USGP at Austin was joined by the Miami Grand Prix in Miami Gardens, Florida. A flashy, exclusive race around the Hard Rock Stadium where the Dolphins play. This race saw Lando Norris take his maiden Grand Prix victory in 2024, kicking off a return to form for McLaren.
2023 added the Las Vegas Grand Prix, taking the idea of the Caesar's Palace Grand Prix to the next level. Rather than racing around a parking lot in the day, they raced down the strip at night under the lights of fabulous Las Vegas.
Miami and Las Vegas are considered grossly expensive and exclusive races meant to milk the US market, and maybe they are, but as an F1 fan in the United States, I used to dream of times like this.
We have three races, all hundreds of miles apart to give some decent coverage throughout the country, and I'd argue each one brings a different vibe.
Miami is all pastel colors and white awnings.
Las Vegas is the neon lights with the cars ripping down the Strip.
Austin is the larger than life red, white, and blue Americana that suits the main race.
I have many, many, many, many, many problems with the state of Formula One nowadays. I have many weeks of negative blogposts to prove that, but I'll never say that Formula One has too many races in the United States.
Las Vegas is as far from Miami as Madrid is from Moscow.
I know Europe is the home of Grand Prix racing, but as this has shown...the US has plenty of history too.
So onto Austin for the 2024 United States Grand Prix, with Formula One looking to be in a more competitive place than it was at this time a year ago.

The National Negro Bowling Association was formed on August 20, 1939, in Detroit. Now known today as The National Bowling Association, the organization boasts over 23,000 members and hundreds of leagues nationwide.
Bowling had become a favorite pastime for many Black families, and the NNBA was formed in part to organize leagues and membership as the sport’s popularity grew. Two prominent organizations, the American Bowling Congress, and the Women’s International Bowling Congress, a counterpart to the ABC, barred non-white members from joining their ranks.
The NNBA held its first meeting at the Frog’s Club in Motor City, with Wynston Brown becoming the group’s first president. In 1944, non-white bowlers were allowed to join the NNBA, as the ABC and WBIC wouldn’t let them join due to race. The NNBA changed its name after opening its doors, membership remained predominately Black.
Under pressure from the NAACP, the ABC and WBIC removed its rule barring non-white members, and the following year, the ABC hosted a tournament featuring the first all-Black bowling team, the Allen Supermarket team.
Groups like the TNBA gave way to pioneers such as Louise Fulton, a US Bowling Congress Hall of Fame inductee who became the first Black bowler to win a professional title in 1964, and the first Black inductee to the group’s Hall of Fame. Gary Faulkner Jr., the only active Black professional bowler to win a national title, played in TNBA tournaments before going pro. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

The Lane Hoggers and Brake Dabbers Club
This morning I am facing three hours of an on-line speed awareness course. Don’t get me wrong, I probably was going at excessive speed on the M25, something you can rarely claim to do on that wrongly located, ill-designed traffic jam of a road, so I will do the course and listen patiently to the liturgy of obviousness and I will try to do better in future.
But, and I know this is no excuse, I would just like to mention two things. The first thing is that I have never encountered a car since my old Triumph Herald from the sixties that was engineered to run in any gear at or below the UK speed limits. You would think that a government that was at all serious about getting us to drive more slowly would ask the manufacturers to address the fact that none of their products sits comfortably at 20mph, 30mph, 40mph, 60mph or 70mph. My own car, a 21 year old Volvo, claims to have a top speed of 160mph and really doesn’t like being in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear once it has reached 15mph. It is constantly trying to get away. Which means that I am having to divert a lot of my driving attention from the road that I should be watching to bring the needle of the speedometer down to the legal level.
I personally think that is as dangerous as allowing the engine to run effectively on an open road, but no doubt today I will learn the error of my ways.
But that speedo is another part of the problem. In my car, because of its age, the thing is analogue. That I could live with. But the driving position means that the actual display is covered by the steering wheel from 50mph to 100mph. Short of ducking down every few seconds, this leaves me having to estimate the speed it is registering once I get above 45. Again, not very conducive to appropriate levels of road awareness. I have worked out that if the bottom of the needle is pretty much vertical then my speed is around 75 to 85, but that is an awkward marking for error on roads where the speed limit (wrongly, and lazily, still designated, and signed “unrestricted” though there are no unrestricted roads in the UK) is 70.
Around built-up areas, another issue comes into play. Exhaust. When you have evolved engines so efficient that 900 cc is as sporty as 2000 cc were 10 years ago, trying to drive at 20 or 30 is not just a huge effort of will, yours against a frisky car that is constantly trying to get away from you, it is also very dirty motoring. I would have thought that was the very last thing any sane government would be wanting to promote just now. Particularly around towns.
Where I live, in the little sleepy traffic jam of Hertford, one of the few remaining pleasures is to sit outside Caffe Nero and watch the drug dealers’ Ferraris and Lamborghinis scrape their undercarriage as they try to negotiate the speed humps. But it comes at a price. Noise pollution and air pollution. The air reeks of it. Has anyone thought this through?
I realise that all that I have said so far will make little sense to a mindless Motorhead such as Clarkson, whose measure for a car is how fast it can accelerate to 70, how much squeal you can get out of the tyres when drifting sideways round a bend and how much fake noise they have coaxed out of its exhaust system but I just think that the manufacturers should be encouraged to do better: and that is the government’s job.
But that leads me on to the second of my points, which is this. If indeed I was speeding (and I only have the word of a machine built and maintained by an Australian company whose CEO has spent time in a US prison for bribery and corruption to say I was), I was allegedly doing 81mph in the unusually clear outside lane of the M25. Now, that was wrong, I put my hand up to it. But the reason I was out there in the outside lane was because the middle lane seemed to be taken up by an outing of the Lane Hoggers and Brake Dabbers Club. This club seems to have a growing membership, despite the efforts of the new Highway Code to encourage people not to do it.
I am sure my experience is not unique. You are trying to maintain a nice steady speed and at first the car ahead of you seems to be doing the same. But then, for no discernible reason, the car’s brake lights flash on. Your instinct is to do the same but there seems no justification. After the car ahead has done this maybe ten times in the space of a quarter of a mile, you decide to increase the distance between you, to give yourself leeway, just in case he ever means it. This is always a risky manoeuvre as it invites a car to the left or the right of you to “fill in the gap”, halving your braking distance at a stroke, but you realise that the car ahead has you driving on your nerves so you open up the gap. Whereupon the car ahead slows down, again for no obvious reason and closes the gap again. Then he begins dabbing his brakes again.
After a while, you are overwhelmed by the urge to “get me out of here”. You check your mirrors. The outside lane is clear. You signal and pull out to overtake the Brake Dabber. As you do you catch sight in your mirror of some headlight blazing BMW hurtling up the outside lane towards you at a speed you can only estimate as close to 100 mph. Is Clarkson late for tea, do you suppose? But what overtakes you first is the urgent desire not to be in his way, so you push down the throttle to get past the Brake Dabber and back in the middle lane before Mr BMW (almost certainly a company car) starts sitting angrily on your tail. It is then that the speed camera clocks you. Gotcha.
Now I have no sympathy for Mr BMW and his ilk and in the quiet of my home I deeply deprecate my willingness to succumb to their aggressive pressure. The limit, I know, is 70 and wiser men than me have determined that this arbitrary figure is the safe one. I should not care about being hounded by a man suffering from an excess of testosterone. But time has taught me a dire lesson. These people are dangerous, keep out of their way.
But that takes me back into the clutches of the Lane Hoggers and Brake Dabbers. And they too are a menace to safe driving. Yes, they keep you on your toes. You cannot relax behind one. But their actions distract you rather than keeping you alert. You need to be aware of all the road conditions around you. Instead, you end up dividing your attention between your speedometer and their brake lights, watching for the next red flash and wondering whether they mean it this time. It is exhausting and nerve-wracking.
Can anything be done about this? Well, to be fair, the authors of the revised Highway Code do now address the lane-hogging part (paragraph 264). But who reads the Highway Code after they have passed their test? And before you have passed your test you may not drive on a motorway. There seems to me to be a gap here that could do to be plugged. Perhaps the time has come for all drivers who wish to use motorways to take a supplementary test specifically dealing with driving behaviour there. And, maybe, a test of this kind could touch on how sensitive brake pedals are when it comes to switching on brake lights.
But let us not forget the underlying reason why the Lane Hoggers stick resolutely to the middle lane. I suspect it has to do with the fact that, if they consign themselves to the inside lane their ability to maintain something like a constant speed will be impaired, by lorries, slow drivers, cars joining at junctions, cars swinging across at the last minute to take exits (I vouch that all of these are real and frequent). So they sit an poodle along in the middle lane, listening to ABBA or Taylor Swift, drifting into a comfortable euphoria only punctuated by occasional speed adjustments and semi-conscious, almost reflexive, tappings of feet on the brake pedal.
So maybe we need more than just a “motorway-ready” supplement to the driving test. Maybe the time has come, with so many vehicles on the road and mostly engineered well-beyond the competence of those driving them, for regular “top-up” tests, to remind us of the need to drive responsibly.
Surely, HM Treasury, ever watchful for “nice little earners” could be persuaded that such a policy was in its interests, if nobody else’s.
For me the bottom line begins with an unpopular thought: we need, now more than ever, to leave behind the acquired but erroneous thought that driving is some kind of inalienable human right and to recognise that it is, and can only ever be, a privilege granted on condition of good and respectful behaviour. Cars are potentially lethal, just as much as guns. You would not give a gun to an untrained and undisciplined man and let him wave it around in a supermarket. Not unless you were an American. Why do we allow ourselves to assume that passing a fairly lax test 20, 30 or 40 years before qualifies any of us to be still gunning around in souped-up killing machines?
We shouldn’t. And as a part of our shift to a more responsible approach, the Lane Hoggers and Brake Dabbers Club needs to be disbanded.

7 Things to Consider When Buying Your First Treadmill
Now, more than ever, people are looking for ways to exercise in their own homes. The COVID pandemic shut the doors of our local gyms and we were all kicking ourselves for not having personal workout equipment at home to stay on track with workout goals.
It became very clear, very quickly, that purchasing fitness items was pretty important.
Whether you are a walker, jogger or runner, a treadmill can be the perfect investment into your fitness journey. If you’re in the market to buy a new one, here are several key features to consider.
1. Establishing Your Space
Establishing a designated workout space in your home can keep you motivated. It sets the mood each time you step into the area. Before purchasing a treadmill, measure the space – twice – to make sure you have plenty of room for an adequate workout, including clearance on the side.
Treadmill Dimensions
Treadmills can vary in width, length and height, depending on their intended purpose and brand.
Also, take into consideration the ceiling height of your workout space. How tall is the tallest person who will be working out on the treadmill and do they have enough clearance to do so?
Again, these measurements will vary depending on the use, features, and style of the treadmill. Generally, a site will display the dimensions of each treadmill so you can get an idea of the size of the machine.
Permanent or Temporary Fixture
Do you have the extra room in your home to allow for a treadmill to be out all the time or will you want a fold-up option for storage? Due to the increase in home treadmills, several models offer this convenient feature.
Check the folded-up dimensions of the treadmill as well so you know where you can store it.
Wheels on the front of the machine might be another factor to consider if you plan on moving the treadmill after each workout. You don’t want to do another workout just putting it up for the day after you’ve already finished your exercise!
Is Noise Level a Priority?
If you plan on working out in the early morning before anyone else in your home wakes up, the noise level might be a pretty important factor to consider.
The sound of the treadmill will be affected by the size of the motor, deck cushioning and the user’s gait. At walking speed, the treadmill will typically range between 42 decibels and 57 decibels.
Treadmills found at gyms and health clubs will usually be on the more quiet side of things. If sound is an important factor, look into the models you would find at a workout studio.
2. Treadmill Affordability
There’s no denying purchasing a treadmill for your home is a financial investment. It is important to look at how much you currently pay to work out and decide how that number is affecting your budget.
Comparing Treadmill Price to a Gym Membership
Think about how much you pay for a gym membership.
You have to decide for yourself which is more important – paying off something and keeping it as long as you want, or paying possibly less money at a time for a gym membership, but paying that amount for as long as you plan to work out…which will hopefully be for the rest of your life!
Lump-Sum or Payment Plan
If you have cash on hand, then the lump sum payment is right for you. Pay once and take care of it!
However, not everyone has the luxury of buying a cardio machine outright. If you will be utilising a payment plan, be sure to check the interest rates and check for any current or upcoming promotions! This may be an affordable alternative better suited to your budget.
At CardioTech we offer affordable options starting as low as ten dollars a month. Partnered with our no interest and fast approvals, we can have you running quicker than you think!
3. Determining What Your Workouts Look Like
Take a moment to visualise what your workout looks like and what your goals are for yourself. Look for a treadmill that will not only meet but also exceed your workout expectations.
Walk, Jog or Run
When you hop on a treadmill, what is your typical speed? Treadmills are made differently to accommodate different workout paces, styles and body compositions.
Joggers and Runners will want to look for decks that provide more cushioning. If you are tall or prefer to sprint during your cardio workout, look for a longer deck; if you have a wider gait, look to machines with wider decks.
Incline
The addition of an incline on your treadmill is a great way to add extra kilojoule-burning power and tone your glutes. Check if you can raise or lower the deck while using the treadmill, to avoid stopping your workout.
Our Breakfree treadmill offers a 15% incline. This added feature will ramp up your metabolism and aid in toning thighs! The incline is easy to adjust with keys at 0% 5% 10% 15%.
Workout Programs and Software
Built-in workout programs will lift and lower your treadmill during the workout so you don’t have to worry about a thing, as well as increase and lower speed automatically.
These programs allow you to select your fitness goals burning kilojoules, distance running or maybe aerobic heart rate – and provide workouts to help you reach those goals.
4. Treadmill Horsepower
This is a pretty big deal for automobiles, but did you know it was something to consider for treadmills as well? The motor’s horsepower can play a big role in the use and longevity of your cardio workout machine.
Comparing Motor Sizes
Once again, this will depend on your intended use. If you plan on running most of the time or if you are a heavier user, aim for a higher horsepower to ensure peak performance.
The motor size will impact the noise level as mentioned earlier. Going with a smaller motor for heavier use or when a larger one is recommended will make your workouts a little on the louder side of things.
It’s also important if you are to find a treadmill with a larger 2.5HP motor, that it is AC fan cooled. It’s rare to find a treadmill at a gym that does not use these types of motors (even rarer to find a home treadmill with one).
Users that plan on mainly utilising their treadmill for walking or slow jogs, are safe to look at the smaller motors like 1.5 horsepower.
Weight Capacity
Each manufacturer should list a weight capacity for the treadmill. Following this guideline will help ensure you get the longest life possible out of your machine.
Very Well Fit notes that heavier users may take a toll on the treadmill’s motor, bearings, roller and belt. Taking note of this very important fact will prevent you from needing to replace parts sooner than you would like.
5. Added Features
You may not need all the fancy additions in your home gym, but if they are being offered then definitely take advantage! CardioTech treadmills offer state-of-the-art features on both models.
Heart Rate Control
If you are looking to burn more kilojoules during your cardio workout, staying at your target heart rate for fat burning may be important to you. Check for a machine with a Heart Rate Control program to keep you exercising in your target heart rate zone.
Kilojoule/Calorie Tracker
This is a big one! A majority of us are working out to lose KJs – and we want to keep track of just how many we are burning away.
Pick a machine with an easy-to-read screen so you can watch those numbers increase as you work out! This is a great motivator to keep working at your highest effort.
Cinema and Audio
Do you prefer to watch TV or listen to music while you use a treadmill? Some treadmills have built-in speakers and USB cords to connect and charge your device while you are using it.
If you prefer to watch TV to pass the time, look into options that either provide a screen or a rack to hold your tablet…or at least a low console so you can see the TV over the dashboard while you are running.
Fan
Built-in fans are a definite feature you don’t want to skip out on! Look for models that allow you to crank up the speed on the fan to keep you cool while you rack up those calorie burn.
6. Safety Features
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) provides several safety guidelines for treadmill manufacturers. Check to ensure the treadmill you purchase has a correctly installed safety stop switch.
It’s always a good idea to read the manufacturer’s instructions before use. There may be added tips to keep you safe while working out.
Automatic mat centering is also important, although it isn’t a required safety feature. This brings the mat back to the middle of the deck after it’s shifted; this could be caused by heavy use and/or storage of the machine.
7. After the Purchase
You want to make sure that regardless of where you purchase your treadmill, there are options for after-sales care. This can include a troubleshooting call line, mobile technicians that will come to you, and parts that are available for purchase in the event something should break.
We keep over one million dollars worth of treadmill parts at the ready in our warehouse, allowing us to provide the lowest downtime in the industry.
Warranty Options
At CardioTech, we offer a lifetime warranty on the frame and drive motor, our customers can rest easy knowing we stand by our product.
Reach Out for Assistance
There’s nothing quite like being able to actually speak with a real person on the phone – someone who specialises in what you are looking for. We are available seven days a week to help our customers with any and all questions.
Comparing Our Treadmill Models
CardioTech provides two different styles of treadmills that prove to exceed user’s expectations! Both models include not one, but two cushioning systems for bounce-back support to protect your joints and back.
In addition, each model provides a console fan and auto-incline for an added glute workout. Added bonus? They are both available in either black or pink! Read on to learn more about how these models differ.
CardioTech Breakfree Treadmill
The Breakfree model is great for helping you to change habits. While you may prefer to walk most days, you still might want to add in a jog every now and again. This machine will give you a satisfying work out while still keeping it simple.
The Heart Rate Control Program, along with 35 pre-set programs will keep you motivated and help you steer clear of treadmill burn-out.
If you’re a multi-tasker, this model also has USB cord capabilities to allow you to connect your smartphone or tablet and use it while working out without worrying about headphones!
X9 AC Treadmill

Lillian Allen: A 1900s Woman of Adventure Who Helped Grow Dade City
Have you ever noticed the “Muller Apartments” on Meridian when driving to Dade City? The architecture is graceful and timeless, part of a contribution of sixty-five structures that were designed and constructed by Lillian L. “Lilly” Sparks Allen, and her second husband, Frank P. Allen. Lilly contributed to the architecture, culture, and hospitality of Dade City, but her story begins with risk, danger, and adventure... Lilly Sparks was born August 16, 1876, to Benjamin and Carrie Sparks in Ashland, Wisconsin. She had nine siblings. One can only speculate on why (and perhaps how) her adventurous family migrated from Wisconsin to Chico, Washington when Lilly was eleven. They platted a homestead and Lilly continued her schooling at the Manette Peninsula School. Getting to School by Guided Canoe The only way to travel to her school was by water so her parents arranged for the grandson of Chief Seattle of the Duwamish and Suquamish tribes, Moses, to escort Lilly and her brother to school and back each day by dug-out canoe. On one of their canoe rides home from school, a sudden storm overturned the canoe. Moses was able to save Lilly, but her brother drowned. An example of the dugout canoe that Moses Seattle piloted to take Lillian Sparks Allen and her brother to school in Washington State. Image courtesy of https://depositphotos.com Lilly explained, “I learned many things…that Indians were not savages, and if you shook hands with them and were kind, they would give you baskets, beads, and the most wonderful shells.” At age 22, Lilly married forty-two-year-old James E. “Sam” Crawford in Kitsap County, Washington. From all indications, they had a cohesive and loving marriage, operating an insurance and real estate business. Sam died in 1918 with no other heirs, so Lilly inherited ample property and resources. Lillian Allen Valued Serving Her Community Lillian "Lilly" Sparks Crawford Allen Abrams in 1954. During her marriage to Crawford and after his death, Lilly was also active in local government, serving as the first woman in the state of Washington to hold a public office. She was also the only woman in the Lion’s Club, receiving an honorable lifetime membership due to her assisting a member who was very ill. On May 3, 1920, Lilly married Frank P. Allen, age 48, at the Baptist Parsonage of King County, Washington. They had met from their mutual interests in real estate, and they soon decided to embark on an entrepreneurial adventure by moving to Dade City, Florida. Lilly and Frank Allen moved to Dade City Florida in the early 1920s This second chapter of Lilly’s remarkable life paralleled the huge real estate building frontier in 1920s Florida. Literally traveling from what was then the most northwestern point to the most southeastern portion of the continental United States, the courageous couple began their new life together, creating homes, subdivisions, and even commercial buildings that can be seen in Dade City’s historic downtown today. Lilly and Frank Allen were partners in erecting or remodeling sixty-five buildings in Dade City including the Miller apartments and the Highland’s Motor Company building. The Allen Mill and Lumber Company, Miller Apartments, Allen Subdivision, and Highland's Motor Company were all Built by Lilly and Frank Allen By 1924, the couple opened the Allen Mill and Lumber Company on Fifth Street next to the old ice plant that now houses TECO in Dade City and hosted an open house. Lilly Allen was a qualified bookkeeper and partner, designing some of her own construction projects such as a four-room bungalow. The initial office was at the Allen residence but as their enterprise expanded, the old commissary building of the tourist camp next door, was converted and she served as secretary of the firm. Images courtesy of fivay.org and Gail Stout. Advertisements in the “Dade City Banner” mention that the mill perfected building techniques such as the use of sheetrock, hollow core bricks, and bungalow architectural styles. With what appeared to be incredible luck, they sold the Allen Mill and Lumber Company in 1925 before the real estate bust in 1926 and continued to build houses for a few additional years. “The Miami Herald” reported, “Mr. and Mrs. Frank P. Alen, former owners of the Allen Mill & Lumber Company, a thriving business institution in Dade City, gave a charming farewell banquet to their employees, last Saturday at Frank’s Café in Dade City.” (now Olio’s Restaurant) In 1923, they were in a partnership with R.A. Snyder for real estate in Dade City, and by 1926, Frank formed a real estate partnership with R.H. Sumner entitled “R.H. Sumner-F.P. Allen and did quite a bit of buying, selling, and developing. Lilly Allen and Frank P. Allen divorced in 1930. Frank moved to Pensacola, Florida where he continued as a prolific builder of bungalow-style homes. By 1935, Frank was stricken ill, and moved back to Eugene, Oregon to convalesce. He died on August 23, 1939. The Crescent Theater, which Lilly Allen managed while it added equipment for screening talking pictures! Image courtesy of fivay.org The Dade City Banner did a front-page acknowledgment of Frank Allen’s death on September 8, 1939, stating “Mr. Allen has many friends in Dade City who regret to hear of his death. He was a very prominent citizen during his several years of residence in Dade City.” His design styles still linger, the article said that he (Allen) planned and built 65 houses during 1924 and 1925, as “he was particularly interested in planning houses to conserve space and introduced the style here of built-in features. Several subdivisions in Dade City bear his name…” Lilly remained in Dade City until 1945 and was incredibly active with many aspects of the community while she continued to manage holdings and rentals. She was the president of the Crescent Theater Company on 5th Street, managing it while it was closed for installation of the latest equipment for talking pictures. Lilly Allen was an Entrepreneur and Humanitarian who Contributed to Dade City The Dade City Tourist Booth that Lilly manned to help welcome visitors to the area. Image courtesy of fivay.org Lilly manned the newly built Chamber of Commerce Information Booth on Meridian as the new highways were being built. She was very active with the ‘Good Will and Cooperation Club’ to sponsor social events and assist needy folks. She lobbied for clean-up and housing for the African American community with the Dade City Woman’s Club in 1929, hosting the May Day event that same year, and being active in the Civic League. She was named secretary of the Tourist Club as they advocated for a recreational center. In 1938, she was a board member of the Chamber of Commerce as they worked on how to deal with the problems of wandering cattle in the city during open range. In 1941, she was proposed as a candidate for city commissioner. An active bridge club member, Lilly Allen appears on the registry for social events and was a well-respected citizen and Dade City businesswoman for twenty-five years. Lilly Allen was an incredible entrepreneur, humanitarian, survivor, and even a historian! We sure are grateful for all her contributions to Dade City. Read the full article

Custom Leather Biker Vest: Expressing Motorcycle Club Identity
New Post has been published on https://ashipwreckinthesand.com/custom-leather-biker-vest-expressing-motorcycle-club-identity/
Custom Leather Biker Vest: Expressing Motorcycle Club Identity
Technology in Custom Vests: Bluetooth and More
Technology is revolutionizing individualized garments. One example of this tendency is the custom motorcycle club vest, a biker classic that has expanded beyond its roots. Once symbols of membership and personal style, these vests now carry Bluetooth connectivity and other advanced technology. Combining fashion and function expands customization, safety, and communication, reinventing what this clothing can symbolize and achieve.
Technology in clothes began with the goal of improved utility. On motorcycles, the vest is both clothing and utility. It showcases affiliation, personal beliefs, and milestone patches and badges. The emergence of wearable technology has given these vests new uses. Bluetooth lets riders stay connected without touching a device. Thanks to perfectly integrated speakers and microphones, riders may take calls, listen to music, and receive GPS instructions while keeping their hands on the handlebars and eyes on the road.
Custom vests incorporate technology beyond Bluetooth. Imagine LED-lit vests for night rides. This feature improves safety by making the rider look excellent and visible to other drivers. Vests that monitor vital signs, track position, and detect impacts are possible thanks to flexible electronics. Such a vest may automatically alert emergency personnel of the rider’s location and potentially life-saving health data in an accident.
These advances in vests make motorcycle riding more practicable. Solar panels integrated into the fabric can charge electronics without frequent refilling. This feature is helpful for long-distance riders who travel lengthy distances.
Personalization and functionality are being elevated in these vests. Programmable LEDs or e-ink displays let riders modify their vests’ appearance with a button. Real-time personalization lets riders see different messages or designs based on their mood or ride. Personal expression and dynamic technology are combined digitally.
Technology in custom vests is challenging to integrate. Durability, weather resistance, and upkeep are crucial. The electronics must survive road conditions like rain, dust, and harsh temperatures. Rider comfort and movement must be considered when designing these vests using technology.
Despite these obstacles, tech-infused bespoke vests have tremendous promise. Combining fashion, technology, and safety can improve riding in many ways. As wearable technology advances, these vests will have more novel functions. Augmented reality displays for navigation, gesture control for device interaction, and adaptive temperature control for different climates are possible future improvements.
Technology and custom motorbike vests demonstrate the boundless possibilities of tradition and innovation. It follows a trend toward innovative apparel and accessories that are both stylish and practical. Looking ahead, the bespoke vest’s transformation from an essential piece of clothing to a complex wearable device is just beginning. This progression shows that even the most traditional goods may be modernized, illustrating human inventiveness and the drive for improvement.
In conclusion, technology in personalized vests, especially for motorcycle clubs, advances personal expression and practicality. Bluetooth communication and health monitoring are among the many applications. As this trend evolves, customization, safety, and connectivity will be expanded, blurring fashion and technology. The custom motorcycle club vest, once a simple statement of identity and belonging, leads this exciting convergence toward a future when our clothing is as intelligent as our smartphones.
Heritage and Identity: Motorcycle Club Patches
The custom motorcycle club vest represents brotherhood, identity, and legacy in motorcycle clubs. This clothing recounts stories, displays achievements, and commemorates an individual’s membership in motorcyclists’ unique brotherhood and sisterhood. The vests’ unique patches, carefully crafted to communicate club history and spirit, are the heart of this tradition.
Motorcycle groups have worn custom patches since their founding. These patches are badges of honor with stories and symbolism, not just decorations. The elaborate designs and themes on these patches generally reflect the club’s ideology, achievements, and the wearer’s journey within the club. The club’s identity is woven from its logo to memorial patches for fallen comrades.
Custom patch design requires originality, precision, and club culture knowledge. The trip begins with an idea, frequently inspired by the club’s history, a memorable event, or a member-resonant notion. After sharing their ideas, members polish the concept and agree on a design that conveys their message. The final design uses symbols, colors, geometry, and imagery to tell a personal and community story.
The materials and methods utilized to make these patches also matter. Traditional methods like hand embroidery are preferred for their craftsmanship and tangible link to the club’s heritage. Modern techniques like digital embroidery and dye-sublimation printing give precision and diversity in designs. The patch’s substance enhances its character and usefulness from sturdy leather to flexible synthetic textiles.
Many motorcycle club members wear custom patches on their vests as a rite of passage. It shows their dedication to the club, its values, and its members. Traditions and procedures dictate where patches like the club’s name, logo, and the member’s rank or job belong on the vest. This format ensures that each vest’s tale is clear, cohesive, and respectful to club hierarchy and traditions.
Custom patches have an impact beyond the wearer. These visuals convey the club’s identity to the outside world, building a sense of belonging among members and promoting respect for the biker community. These vests and patches create a tapestry of colors and symbols at gatherings, rides, and motorcycle events, each conveying its own story while contributing to a broader narrative of brotherhood, adventure, and freedom.
Custom patches and motorcycle club jackets are critical beyond riding. Their influence on fashion, art, and media portrayals of motorcycle clubs is widespread. This cultural resonance reflects the universal issues of identification, belonging, and the yearning to belong to something bigger. It emphasizes bespoke patches as emblems of motorcycle clubs’ friendship, originality, and club regalia.
In conclusion, motorcycle clubs’ personalized patches reflect their rich history, identity, and community. These patches are more than simply fabric they represent honor, commitment, and shared stories. These patches will continue to be made and worn by motorcycle clubs as they grow and adapt, maintaining their tradition while embracing the future.
Continuing this story, custom patches evolve like motorcycle clubs. New riders add new insights and innovations to the club’s traditions. Patch design and meaning will change with society, technology, and motorcycling culture. These patches represent freedom, loyalty, and fraternity, which remain unchanged. They bridge motorcycle clubs’ past, present, and future, preserving the ride’s spirit and relationships for future generations.
