I have a bunch of other characters done, but they're background characters, and thus, I'll update the post with them in a self-reblog. Also, I have alot of things to say that are series spoliers, so I'll probably keep them to myself or reply in messages asking about them.

- Chuck makes music under a fake name, and it probably has something to do with larping somewhat. Sounds like a mixture of dedfish, the artists of alterna, and sashimori. (Eg. New you Bisk ver)

- Chuck probably has a crush on Claire because of the whole idol thing.

- Technically, Motorcity has no idols, but splatfests still take place.

- Mike and Chuck often do league double battles with each other, but when in normal league, they bring along Dutch and Texas!

- Chuck is definitely a charger tryhard, he prides himself in his accuracy!

- The Seamounts made a special inktank for Texas!

- The deluxian army has kind of an octo expansion vibe to it but basked in white instead of grays and neons.

honestly you could draw a lot of parallels between Kaia and Kane in terms of their abilities to "stomach" tough decisions, their belief that what they're doing is the right thing contrasting against their impulse to hide parts or most of their plans from even people who seem to be on their side and loyal, their core belief that the ends justify the means, even at their views of Mike's "betrayal" of them. of course, they're still not on equal MORAL footing, because Kane's means to an end are about control and Kaia's means to an end are about liberation. much to discuss.... much to think about

I've never heard of this cartoon before, but I can look up the name meanings.

Mike: Short for Michael, which means "Who is like God?"

Julie: "Youthful."

Chuck: A nickname for Charles, which means "free man."

Dutch: The Dutch language and people are from the Netherlands, and in old American slang, "Dutch" also means "German," from the word Deutsch.

Texas: A US state name; it means "friend" in the language of local Native Americans, the Caddo people.

Abraham: "Father of many."

Tooley: "Mighty people."

Kaia: Derived from Catherine, which means "far off" or "pure."

Red: Self-evident; the color.

Jacob: "Heel-grabber" or "supplanter."

Motorcity Headcanons: Edge of the Dome/outskirts

- People who live near the edge of the dome or on the outskirts aren't to be messed with and the gangs have a silent agreement to leave them alone.

- Even an experienced KaneCo cadet won't go on the outskirts if they don't have to

- People on the outskirts have a reputation for being crack shots and having old fashioned guns (which can take out most tech, even KaneCo tech).

- The outskirts is made up of several small settlements. Each settlement has a leader and they answer to one elected official.

- They have couriers for delivering messages, as comms aren't always reliable and do short out due to signal issues.

- Robin Cairn runs a courier service and his group is the closest thing to an actual gang the outskirts has. Mike somehow befriended him shortly after arriving in Motorcity and worked for him a few times.

- outskirters love The Burners and Rayon's group. However, they do not love the Duke and he gets shot at a lot.

- They have their own dialect that they speak in addition to English. They don't have a name for it but Kaia calls it Click due to the use of clicking noises to communicate displeasure and the fact they click at the Terrans a lot.

- Outskirters deal with extreme conditions due to being far away from weather generators. Usually there are dust storms summer-fall and intense cold in the winter. Rain is made by homemade weather generators and they don't have a big range, clouds dissipate quickly.

- Kane tends to dehumanize them a lot but doesn't see them as a real threat either, seeing as they largely stay out of conflicts and only shoot at cadets who get too close.

Kaia(MC) vs Willow(TOH) in a 1v1, who’s winning?

Ooohhh, this is a good ask!

That's a tough call. On the one hand Willow's definitely got more raw power, but on the other hand Kaia's a lot more ruthless.

Then again, I don't think Willow's above using lethal force in cases where she feels it's absolutely necessary. And given some of Kaia's more morally questionable actions I don't think Willow would see a reason to hesitate.

I'm gonna have to go with Willow on this one.

I think it could be said that Red might be symbolic of Pride.

The three antagonists associated with the color red are Kane, Red, and Duke, but a common through line with all three is that they all believe in what they do with %100 of their chest. Kane fully wants to wipe Motorcity off the map and believes he should have the absolute right to do so, Duke sees others as pawns to mess with, and Red believes his anger towards Mike is completely valid and justified despite all of the logical inconsistencies of his reasonings. Fundamentally, all of these guys do bad things but do so to serve the ego.

Texas shares this trait, even if it’s in a less villainous context: Texas is stubborn, proud, and sees himself in an idealized way, and is very reluctant to take orders from others. Arguably his best traits are his unwillingness to give in, which he shares with the other three. The key difference is that Texas actually wants to stand against authority and genuinely help others, even if he can be a jerk about it. One thing that distinguishes Texas from the rest of the group and ESPECIALLY Mike is his ego; he wants to be respected and well liked, and it could be argued it’s partially his motivation for being a Burner.

Green, in the show’s context, could symbolize kind intentions, which draws a parallel between Mike and the Terras. With Mike it’s obvious, and unlike Texas, Mike is purely kind for kindness’s sake; he thinks people should “live fast, live free” and wants to fight for others even if it doesn’t necessarily benefit him.

Kaia being green might be because the Terras’ have a more sympathetic angle as antagonists: she and the Terras were victims of Kane and, unlike with Red whose vendetta with Mike is largely unreasonable and clearly guided by emotion, there is a case to be made that Kaia wasn’t completely wrong in her anger and wanting revenge, even if she went about it in an awful way. Kane, Duke, and Red are much more strictly villainous and clearly in the wrong, but their pride takes precedent over reason. Kaia genuinely believes she’s doing right by those who were harmed by Deluxe and at the very least is actually targeting the parties responsible indirectly or directly (Deluxe civilians didn’t cause what happened but it makes sense that she simply groups them up as more of Kane’s assets).

IN THIS ESSAY I WILL

I’m interested in the fact that in Motorcity, red is a DANGER color, a volatile color, and almost always an evil one–the Duke has red, white and gold as his colors, and Deluxe is white but Kane’s war-tech is heavily red-and-black-themed.  Fearless?  Red eyes.  Safe-T suits overriding peoples’ free will? Color change to red.  And then obvs there’s Red himself, which, yeah.  

Kaia’s the only non-red villain, which kind of feels right considering she’s opposed to basically everyone and everything–you’re all going down and I’m taking you all with me.  (Also, she’s the plant villain.  So what are you gonna do if not green?)  Even in her case, the scene where the terras try to drop Mike to his death is heavily red-lit, and so is the scene in Mayhem Night where they try to bring down the Keystone. 

ANYWAY Texas is the red burner and I feel like the creators didn’t necessarily lean into the motif enough to qualify it for metatextual analysis, but also it interests me immensely, because Texas is a jerk sometimes but he’s certainly not a villain. But thematically, his color falls in line with villainy!  As does Stronghorn’s color scheme, which has the same black/gunmetal gray/bright red pallette as a KaneCo bot (black instead of gray, but still).

I don’t think there’s really anything to analyze here per se, but I do really like thinking about it.

……………………I feel like there’s a “burners end up in the group their color matches with” AU in here somewhere, and not just because I’m HERE for Skylark!Chuck, and Dutch the Mama’s Boy befriending one of their stolen bots, ahhh
