[STATEMENT OF MARISOL REEDS, REGARDING THE MOLD, AND HOW THEY CAME TO BE A HOME FOR IT.]

I had never liked mold before this. or bugs. or anything dirty. i would wash my hands after almost every small thing i did when i was a child. when i look back on this habit i laugh. how stupid i was! so desperate to avoid the joy of the mold that i avoided the joy of most other things too! playgrounds, frogs, eating playdoh, playing with other kids, etcetra.

My parents were not concerned about this behaviour. My mother even encouraged it.

I moved into my own apartment when i was 19. I kept it as clean as i could, but one day i noticed this disgusting patch of black mold in the corner of my living room. I cleaned and cleaned and cleaned and cleaned and then i gave up when i noticed that even after trying to get rid of that stupid almost every day, the mold wouldnt go away. so i just kind of let it stay there.

And the mold grew.

and grew.

and grew.

I had designated that wall "the mold wall".

I dont know why i didnt start cleaning it again, but it was all fine! it was like a roommate! :) i guess!

i started hearing it speak -or sing, i think thats more accurate- to me after a few weeks. it thanked me, it told me i was its friend, it told me i could help it.

I started talking back. i was lonely, it helped, it was therapeutic in a way! i told it my problems, it listened.

it told me i could get back at my mother, since i seemed to dislike her. i asked it how, it said it would help me if i helped it spread its spores, helped it consume and cover and crawl and conquer.

the next thing i remember i was standing over my crying mother as she scraped at her flesh trying to get the 'sickly' 'disgusting' spores off of her perfect arm. i held out my hand and she slapped it away, screaming at me, saying i was not her daughter. i left. i left the mold to do its work.

A few days later i started.. dating? texting? this lovely person who called herself Penny. she said she loved mushrooms, would always talk about them, spout out facts.

Mold and mushrooms are similar enough, so why was she in such distress when the spores got into her eyes and started to spread? she should have been feeling joy, she was becoming a home for Basically The Mushroom's Cousin!

She disliked the mold, the mold disliked her.

She was the only one of my.. 'Victims' that i felt bad for.

I visit her grave every now and then, bringing more spores and maybe a flower.

the mold covers my apartment now.

it tells me to spread its spores more, and so i do.

and i will continue to do so until it gets tired of me and i join my mom, penny, and the 4 others that i have so far attempted to spread the joy to.

This Kwazulu Natal landrace: P. natalensis - I chose to isolate this plate (taped) due to heavy plate metabolites and otherwise unhealthy morphology of mycelium. Maybe a week or two ago.

But the specimen is surely resilient, as demonstrated here. from t4 xfer on 07/08 from mother-swab plate from 03/01.
