(X-Men First Class Finals #2)
One of the many things I hold against Charles Xavier is how little he seems to have tried to prepare his surrogate son for life outside of being a superhero.
I mean presumably, Xavier's school does count as an actual school. The kids do go on to college or university after (though I don't believe Scott actually finished. And Jean, honestly, is questionable). Bobby at least learned enough to become an actual accountant and Warren can run his family businesses well enough.
But like, emotionally, what has Xavier actually done to prepare these kids for adulthood?
And it's particularly notable in Scott's case, because at least the others had their families (awful as they could be at times) to provide some measure of support or direction. Scott had a mad scientist's orphanage/laboratory, and then a petty street criminal wanting to use him as a living cannon. That's it.
(I suppose, eventually, he has Alex. I suppose I should give credit to Xavier there, since in the earliest issues, Scott very explicitly had NO ONE. He spent holidays at the mansion, with nowhere to go and no one to contact. All New X-Men Scott is delighted to reunite with his older-younger brother, but there's no indication there that he'd been having semi-regular contact with him. So we can assume contact was made AFTER issue #8.)
But anyway, Xavier has this kid, who has nothing, dropped in his lap, and the closest thing he does to any kind of guidance counseling is make him team leader and then skip town. (And later fake his death.)
It's just a little horrifying when you think about it. What kind of prospects does Scott actually have, career wise, if he does leave the X-Men. (Maybe piloting? Presumably he does have a license. And if his grandparents are still alive, he might be able to take Madelyne's old job?)
For that matter, how many of the various teachers at either the New-X-Men era Academy, or the Jean Grey School actually have the credentials to teach anyone?! (I'm not really bringing up Scott's post AvX "school" there, because that was less a school and more of a specialized training facility held in a secret bunker. No one was even pretending to learn how to pass the SATs.)
And honestly, it didn't seem like there was ANY organized school structure on Krakoa. I mean, yes, it IS mutant paradise. But still, kids ought to be learning math and shit, right?
And now what do we have? Emma and Kitty's students do still seem to be attending regular school at least. Scott's team are already adults (or maybe emancipated in the case of Idie and Quentin?). I don't know what the fuck is going on for the folks living in the swamp though. Maybe that'll come up after the crossover.
(I also doubt they have any real health insurance or work history that would qualify them for social security later. Being part of a millionaire/billionaire's private child army isn't really great for future prospects, I notice...)

Since Xavier is so little prince coded is mc the lone rose 🌹 back on his planet or the fox 🦊
Ohhh wow Anon..I didn't want to think too much on this, mostly because I read The Little Prince like..years ago and the plot isn't that coherently in my head but let's see..
The obvious interpretation can be..
Xavier is the little prince, traveling through the space, wandering on all these planets, learning something new everyday, learning from the people he meets and in turn teaching them something as well..
Queen MC should represent the rose, the Prince’s beloved whom he has left. In the book, the Prince leaves the Rose due to her vain, proud and naive behaviour. But here in Love and Deepspace, the Prince has left his beloved in order to save her from the fate destined for her..In a way, the rose has always been the major source of motivation for his travels..
Then..that must imply that the Fox represents the current timeline MC? In a way, yeah you could say that. The Fox becomes a dear friend and teaches the prince the significance of people in his life. About how one person in this sea of so many, becomes important because of the connection we share with said person, and the time we spend cultivating said relationship with them. The Fox calls this “taming”. According to the fox, “to tame means to establish ties.”
“If you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world.” says the Fox.
And since Xavier has left his planet, as well as his timeline and met the current MC, they both have been slowly taming each other i.e. they've been slowly establishing a bond with each other with every encounter and moment spent together in the main story.
Now in The Little Prince..
The Fox teaches the Prince the importance of ties and significance of one person compared to the rest around them:
“It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”
And the Fox makes the Prince realize how dear his beloved Rose is to him, and that he has a responsibility towards the Rose:
“You mustn’t forget it. You become responsible forever for what you’ve tamed. You’re responsible for your rose.”
So if Love and Deepspace writers take the same route..
then in accordance, there will come a point that Xavier might have to leave the current MC and go back to his own timeline’s Queen MC (which is exactly what he came back in time for) because he has a responsibility. And the responsibility in this context is that he vowed to himself that he'll save her life. Get her out of this cursed fate of dying and being brought back to life over and over for the sake of a planet.
BUT!
THIS IS A CHINESE OTOME GAME! And yes while that justifies nothing, I firmly believe that it is highly unlikely that the game might follow this route..
..simply because Xavier himself has never acted as such. He's been nothing but protective towards the current MC. He's been killing his own ex-teammates from the Backtrackers in order to protect MC. And he doesn't hesitate in doing so which in itself cement his standpoint and his feelings towards the current MC.
Also, I believe that..IN ESSENCE, QUEEN MC AND CURRENT MC HAVE THE SAME SOUL, AND ARE THE SAME PERSON.
So our MC doesn't need to be the Rose or the Fox. She most likely is both a cherished friend and a lover to Xavier because she is afterall, the same person. With the amount of times she's died (or forced into dying), it's obvious that the Queen MC from Xavier's actual timeline could very well be the current MC who's died so many times that in a distant future, she is reborn and exists in the same era as the one that Xavier comes from.
My word is not absolute, and this is still a very rough way to put it all into words. But I do firmly believe that that one thing that the antis keep using to antagonise Xavier will not come true because he's always been in love with ONE person and our MC as well as the Queen MC are THAT one and the same person.
» But hey! If Xavier does betray current timeline MC, then we might possibly get a plotline/route like I posted about [HERE] and I am not averse to that.

The Angel of the Cosmos: An LaDS Fan Myth
Art by Kirakanjo
Author's Note: This is a fan-made myth for the game Love and Deepspace, which is based off the art I commissioned from talented artist Kirakanjo. All characters (save for my OCs) belong to Infold/Paper Games. PLEASE DON'T COME FOR ME! Inspiration: The idea that Xavier is an Angel of the Cosmos who creates the stars in the sky.
| 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 |
---------------------------------------------------------------------- 01 -------------
In Philos, there is a fairy tale that all children here as their parents put them to bed for the night. It is the story of the Angel of Cosmos, the creator of the stars in the sky, who paints the sky with stars day and night, and carries the light of all creation within his wings. If you are lucky, you might see the angel extend his wings before flying through the clouds, the star shining brighter as he passes by in order to gain his attention. There is a saying that if you see the stars when the sun is out, it means in the Angel of Cosmos is full of joy. He is in his home, his domain, bathing the world below in his glorious, celestial light. But is also a tale, spun long ago, the tale of the Angel of Cosmos who fell to the earth and was captured by the cruel king who wished to keep him as a pet. Away from his celestial home, the Angel of Cosmos fell into despair, courting danger to everyone as there was a massive black hole growing in his heart... But this is also the story of a brave princess, who push aside her own insecurities and fears to do the right thing, to save her people from her father's arrogance...and release the man she grew to love, in spite of her of heart's deepest desire...
| The Palace of the Philos Royal Family | In the throne room of the King of Philos, discussions are taking place in earnest. The Eldest Princess of the Royal family has long come of age - and now, in order to cement his might, she must be married off before she is considered to be too old to be useful. The Crown Prince of a Neighboring Country has come to express his interest in Her Royal Highness. His reputation proceeds him - he is known mostly for devilishly handsome looks, but under hushed tones, people whisper about his outward cruelty.
The Eldest Princess doesn't want to marry him.
She doesn't want to marry anyone. She would rather return to the convent she was raised in and continue to learn more about the world around her. The King isn't even her biological father - she is his niece, placed in his care after her parents died at sea. And while she cannot say that she was mistreated during her time here, she is fully aware of her status as a minor burden and a massive liability.
Hence, she must be married off and quickly. She is not at all slender and graceful like the Second Princess - the King's Actual Daughter - is. She is curvy, plump, and well-rounded - the very anti-thesis of feminine virtue. At least that's what the other courtiers say.
But she would rather be alone and untouched, than to be battered by a man who didn't love her.
The Eldest Princess stands with her maid behind a screen, on a balcony that allows them to be privy of the discussions. "It looks like everything will soon be settled, your Highness," the head lady-in-waiting says dreamily. "Finally, you will be properly married!" "Hmph...unfortunately." The Eldest Princess hitches up her skirt, walking away from the spectacle. "Now matter how much I insist that it's unnecessary, they insist upon marrying me off. They say it's good for me, but really, it's so His Majesty doesn't have to marry his daughter off to that rogue." The Eldest Princess storms through the castle corridors, only stopped by the commotion made by a group of guards pushing a mysterious box into one of the lower dungeons. She arches an eye, curious. "What is going on over there?"
"Didn't you hear? The King has brought another treasure home - and he says it's his most prized treasure of all!" "Prized treasure?" The Eldest Princess rolls her eyes. "What is it? Another exotic animal? Or another kingdom's prized treasure?"
"Nothing like that, your Highness." The Lady-in-Waiting leans close, whispering into her ear. "The guards say that the King has captured the Angel of the Cosmos himself!"
"What?! From the fairytales?" A playful grin spreads across the Eldest Princess' face. "I simply *must* see this!" "But your Highness, we'll be punished if we are found in the dungeon - " "Then we simply must be careful. That's all."
The Eldest Princess waits for the cover of night before she and her lady-in-waiting sneak through the halls, wearing black hooded capes in order to blend in with the darkness. The moment they slip into the dungeons, their breaths hitch. The dark, dank prisons, normally covered in shadow, mildew, and despair, shine with an unearthly, celestial light. He sits inside his cell, dressed in paper thin black fabrics, his unbuttoned shirt exposing the various bandages and scars all over his chest. His hair, ruffled and unkempt, is spun of platinum silk. He looks down at his hands, the quiet he exudes almost as deafening as that melancholy he carries in his soul. Yes the light of the heavens and skies still surrounds him, capturing everyone who sees it with the state of its holy aura.
"Gods..." The Eldest Princess says, walking toward the man. The moment his blue eyes look up to meet hers, she feels as if she is swimming in a sea of stars. "He really *is* the Angel of the Cosmos..."

Avengers Vs X-Men and the demonisation of Cyclops
Part 1
Avengers Vs X-Men, or AvX, was a Summer crossover event in 2012. The title is pretty self explanatory, but there's a lot more to it than that. It was a bookend of sorts of the Extinction era and a coda for Wanda (and her terrible characterisation) calling back to House of M, narratively undoing the Decimation and exploring Hope's role as the Mutant Messiah.
I believe plenty of the dramatis personae played idiot ball hot potato and acted out of character, especially Steve Rogers. However, I'll primarily be looking at the event through a Watsonian lens, except for discussing the setup and aftermath. Scott Summers struggled against many forces during the Phoenix crisis but I propose the narrative was the most powerful force that opposed him.
Logan is describing himself here, ironically. Scott is quite happy with Emma. He talks a good one about 'keeping the kids out of the fighting' but he's perfectly willing to kill Hope and his students fight constantly.
Wolverine and the Schism
To do a proper analysis of AvX and the central conflict, we need to examine the previous instance of the narrative defeating Scott - the Schism. The salient dynamic to carry forward from it was Logan and Scott falling out - or Logan throwing a hypocritical tantrum - depending on your point of view. Whichever you believe, it's undeniable that Logan resented Scott and managed to enlist a lot of people to follow on his campaign of 'anti-Scott.' He left Utopia and restarted the Xavier School, renaming it The Jean Grey School - both creepy and petty, in my opinion. The narrative and Cyclops' team kept all the genocidal threats away from the school, an editorial hand strengthening Logan's argument. Realistically the school should have been destroyed several times over.
My editorialising aside, Scott and Logan's relationship was not in a good place. They'd mostly kept away from each other, but Logan used his Avengers membership to escalate the Phoenix dilemma and poison the well re: the Avengers' approach to Scott. Aside from vague and fragmented warnings from Nova, Logan was The Avengers only source of information on the Phoenix - and he was heavily biased and objectively wrong. The somewhat one-sided rivalry from Schism had turned into outright animosity - telling 'everyone who'd listen ... that he was crazy.'
Phoenix Rising
The X-Men and Avengers both received confirmation of the Phoenix's arrival, though mutants in general had varying degrees of faith that it would come for Hope Summers specifically. As mentioned, Logan positioned himself as an expert despite Rachel Summers, long time Phoenix host, teaching at his school. Scott absolutely had an agenda, but it was reactive and had good reason to believe that the Phoenix had good intentions. Though even if he didn't, he didn't call the Phoenix to Earth. The bird does as it pleases. He certainly could/should have treated Hope like an adult and asked what she wanted, but at the same time she was a 16 year old in his care.
Scott's approach was to prepare Hope as best he could for the trial to come, admittedly quite harshly. He knew there was no getting away from the Phoenix, it's simply too powerful to evade or fight head on. He also should have consulted Rachel, though he corrected that mistake swiftly once things kicked off. Not only was he married to the Phoenix for quite some time but he's aware it's spent a lot of time on earth at least 6 different hosts and the Earth is doing just fine. Importantly, his time-travelling son had been to many futures where Hope was denied the Phoenix and they were ashes, the Earth a desolate wasteland. In futures where she did host the Phoenix, mutants were reignited. His extensive time travelling had yielded very reliable information in the past, his claim that Hope was the Mutant Messiah is not one Scott just took on faith. Cable is an expert in such things AND he raised Hope from birth.
He also had a personal connection to the Phoenix.
The Avengers' strategy was twofold - taking Hope into protective custody while Iron Man 'worked on a science solution' - and sending their most powerful members to go punch the Phoenix before it got to Earth. Operating off Logan's dubious intel, they packed every Avenger they could find onto a Helicarrier and headed for the mutant island proto nation of Utopia. They also didn't really share that apparently the Phoenix is just a fickle cosmic troll now, allegedly just blowing up planets on a whim. Yes, Dark Phoenix ate a star and genocided a planet, but that was after immense psychological trauma and needless escalation. Even then, it was nearly talked down (by Scott) until Charles Xavier butted in and tried to overpower it. Hopefully he's not arrogant enough to try that again (he is.) Since then, many mutants had hosted the Phoenix and they're all doing fine.
The Avengers had nothing but bad intel, whereas the X-Men had empirical evidence and decades of experience dealing with the Phoenix.
We need to take Hope
Member of the Illuminati's finest diplomacy
Neither man does a great job communicating here, but the onus is on Cap to explain why he's coming to take your granddaughter based on advice from the Stabbing Guy. He presents no plan (they don't have one) and ignores the suggestion that his expert is not an expert. Scott and co were preparing for what has historically been an internal mutant matter when an army arrives on their doorstep telling them how it's going to be. After a failure to reach any sort of middle ground (not that Cap was offering any) Scott responded to Cap's refusal to leave by blasting him non-lethally.
I wasn't asking
All other X-Men are being oddly timid here. Nice title drop, Spider-Man.
'Wants us to look like bullies' says Tony AKA the military industrial complex and founder of the Illuminati. The Avengers get their mandate from the United States and answer to the President and SHIELD, but generally act as they please. Their sense of righteousness is a constant throughout this event and they absolutely act like bullies from start to finish.
Magneto launched Colossus at the Helicarrier (that thing launching at least 12 jets with ~30 powerful superhumans on it) to deny them a force multiplier and press their initiative, though once all Avengers deployed the best they could do was hold the line while Hope was kept safe. The Avengers wanted Hope and the X-Men were determined to protect her.
Remember, dipshit? Stabbing the Phoenix isn't effective. You should know this.
Showing he'd learnt nothing from Jean Grey, any other Phoenix experiences, House of M, decades of knowing Rachel Summers, etc - and in a stunning act of hypocrisy - Logan snuck away from the fight to kill Hope. She manifested Phoenix powers (way before it reached Earth) and burnt him to a crisp. Spooked by the situation and guilty people were fighting over her, Hope fled and successfully sent everyone on a wild goose chase trying to find her.
While both teams were scrambling and pummeling each other, Hope found Logan and proposed a bipartisan plan - they'd travel to the moon and Hope would accept the Phoenix. If she could handle it, great. If not, she'd willingly let Logan kill her. The agreement was to keep the others out of it - she wanted agency over her life and didn't want brawling superhumans ruining her zen. Logan betrayed her and told the Avengers, of course.
Iron Man's genius science solution
The X-Men and Avengers arrived and really ruined the mood. Logan was straight up trying to kill Scott. Just as Hope was about to host the Phoenix, Tony fucking Stark displayed the Avengers' complete lack of Phoenix experience and his own personal arrogance by activating that Transformers-looking thing up there. Everyone held their breath while he shot it with a big gun and something unexpected happened.
Out of Hope
Unsurprisingly this unexpected happening was an utter disaster, splitting the Phoenix into five pieces that ended up in Piotr, Emma Frost, Namor, Ilyana, Scott (or P.E.N.I.S if you're puerile like me.) The Phoenix Five were born against their consent and now The Avengers had 5 problems to deal with instead of one. In terms of culpability it's important to recognise that none of the P5 planned for this or wanted it - The Avengers and especially Tony bullied their way into this situation. Unfortunately, The Phoenix is kinda like the mafia - once you're in you can't leave, so the P5 are stuck with the results of the Avengers' non-plan. In fact, everyone is stuck with the fruit of their arrogance and The Avengers especially do not like the bitter taste. As they're still making demands of them, the X-Men regroup to process what happened. They eventually reach consensus on how to proceed, and the Avengers antagonise them every step of the way. They're convinced that this means the Earth is doomed, and blame the P5 and especially Scott for being there when Tony tried to kill a cosmic fundamental force of creation.
Sure, they're talking like lunatics, kinda. Maybe like people unexpectedly possessed by a godlike being? Completely ignoring who caused this and forgetting how possession works, Cap doubles down on 'we're right and you're wrong.' The P5 are villains now, you can tell because they want to take Hope to help her 🙄.
In part 2, The Phoenix Five explore benevolent uses of cosmic power and the Avengers keep acting like paranoid control freaks. The whole world has to decide how they feel about that, and opinions are mixed.

thinking about how Magneto's iconic helmet in X-Men 97 is mostly not used at all in the entire series, and as he only wears it when he has a temporary backslide to his villain ideology (framed both as a desperate hopelessness that they can live in peace with humanity, and a fundamentally supremacist/isolationist ideology regarding mutants as superior to humans), the framing kind of suggests that his helmet is a sign of him being a supervillain.
When Magneto wears the anti-psionic helmet, he's way more guarded looking. It casts most of his face into shadow. It obscures him, leaving him ambigious looking, just as much as a viewer might be unsure of how much of Magneto's change of motives is entirely genuine or if he's playing a long-term scheme of some kind.
But he looks radically different without the helmet. He's... exposed, open and revealed. We see his whole face, and his hair; it cuts a dramatic air, almost a romantic novel's protagonist.
Magneto's helmet cuts him off from others. He wears it and hides himself, his intentions and his genuine feelings behind a persona.
He puts on the helmet, most notably, when in the wake of despair and hitting his point of no return, his horror at his inability to save so many of his people and obsessively fixating on the image of a young boy (who was so openly mutated that he couldn't live among humans) whom Magneto told that he would finally be safe, he becomes a living embodiment of vengeance and retribution against all humankind for the crimes that Bastion committed.
And when Xavier speaks directly to him, in the wake of the literal oceans of pain he suffers under, that's what makes him break out of it.
The helmet conceals, but it guards him against the suffering and horror he endures. He wears the helmet not least because he is not nearly as dedicated to his crusade as he appears. He doesn't want to do this things; deep down, he doesn't want to be a supervillain. He genuinely does believe that his world is a shared world, and that in his most wild of dreams, his people and the rest of humanity live in peace together. But after all the things he's seen, all the horrors he has personally suffered through or failed to stop, he can't believe its really possible. Magneto kills without hesitation or pity, but he doesn't want to.
He just can't really bring himself to believe that a future together is possible. Every single fiber of his being screams 'this will happen again, and it will keep happening, until no one is left who can do it to your people'.
And Xavier can talk Magneto into hoping otherwise.
The helmet serves many purposes. But one of them is that without it, Magneto would be unable to carry out his actions, because Xavier can connect to him.

Magneto: A bit extreme, but uncompromising of his beliefs
Magneto may be extreme and tortured and dangerous, but his belief and support for mutant kind is unwavering. He can not be called the hero anymore and has voluntarily removed himself from the X-men roster and he is fine with that. Walking Xavier's path made him weak. It did. His defeat on Genosha was due to him carrying too many people and of walking the centrist view.
He may be holding on too tight to his pain and suffering from the past, but it was all those things that fueled him becoming Magneto- Master of Magnetism, and not a bum on the street. I can't get behind his more extreme methods or anti-human stance, but I get his wariness and weariness of humans and their bigotry.
I also applaud Magneto for being unlike Charles Xavier in that he supports all of mutant kind- those that are poor, low powered, and downtrodden and not just the powerful or the passable humanoid ones. Magneto looks after the Morlocks who the X-men dismiss or overlook and creates Genosha- a place for all mutants to live freely and look and act as they please without judgment or shame.
The X-men are privileged mutants who live in the lap of luxury and provide their gifts to the team in exchange for security and protection. They are mostly humanoid mutants that have godlike powers. They are removed from living in guilt or shame of having mutancy and feeling like a freak. Magneto understands this pain and the anger of living through it.
My criticism of the X-men and Xavier's beliefs is that they are privileged and can't fully understand how mutants who have been tortured, harassed, and tested on feel. They advise in fitting in with the mainstream by adapting to the human world and promote human-mutant coexistence. This is easy for them to proclaim living tucked away in a fortress like mansion or having expensive training and specialized equipment made for them to control their powers and make them more palatable to humans, but the masses of average mutants don't have that luxury. And Erik would argue that why should mutants have to change who they are and bend and squeeze to pacify a group of bigots who distrust and hate them anyway. I once wrote a post comparing Magneto to Malcolm X and Xavier to MLK and I think it's appropriate.
I don't believe necessarily in the only way to fight your oppressors is violence, but I do see that it is annoying that the only way for a minority group to be accepted is to be Excellent or Exemplary poster children of strength and beauty and to also be seen as harmless rule followers of the majority's way of life.

Hello. I was recently reading your "People's History of the Marvel Universe" series (an excellent read btw).
You made reference to critiques of Xavier and his political strategies, which got me thinking. Has anyone ever brought up the idea of a mutant advocacy group in the comics? Something akin to a NAACP, or an NGO? It feels like something that should exist, but I genuinely can't remember a writer ever attempting to create one.
This is an excellent question!
So I have certainly mentioned the issue in the past. If we think of the Marvel Universe as being roughly co-terminous in time with our own universe, as it was before the invention of the sliding timescale in the 90s, there should have been a mutant rights movement founded in the 70s during the "movement of movements" that saw the explosion of gay rights movements, women's liberation movements, environmental movements, etc. coming out of the 60s civil rights movement and New Left/anti-war movement. (I certainly would have been fascinated by how the All-New X-Men would have wrestled with the concept of "intersectionality" when it was brand-new coming out of the Combahee River Collective.)
In the comics, there have been sporadic mentions of mutant advocacy groups and NGOs - mostly in the context of campus organizations - but often very sporadically. Grant Morrison really changed the game completely by making X-Corp (a global mutant rights NGO) a significant element of his celebrated New X-Men run, and creators who followed their work have gone on to invent new groups with examples like Super Trans (a support group for trans mutants), Mutantes Sans Frontières (a mutant medical NGO), MUSE (a mutant rescue and shelter NGO), and Magnetic North (a pro-Magneto radical student group).
Whether the Krakoan Response Team (disaster relief) or the Marauders (refugee and black market pharmaceuticals) count as social movements or NGOs probably depends more on your theoretical perspective on social movements. Both organizations are state-sponsored, but aren't formal state institutions, but then again Krakoa doesn't have a well-developed political system. Most theorists insist that social movements have to be outside the political system, but I tend to agree with those who argue that social movements and political movements overlap, and that a lot of social movement work historically and today is done within the system of electoral politics.

X-Men antics continue as I browse the next few issues looking for our (my) faves. In X-Men #27, Kitty infiltrates the Bloom again and finds both Juggernaut and Cyclops captive, with Cyclops on a dead man's switch, so she can't easily free him. Meanwhile, Rasputin IV and others hit up the Fantastic Four because Reed used to know how to mask the X-Gene, which would be real handy in hiding from Orchis. With Kamala's help, Reed realizes it was the Terrigen Mists (something Inhuman-related) that did it. (The reason he no longer remembers is due to Xavier and Magneto, which is also referenced in 2022's Hellfire Gala.)
In X-Men #28, Sunfire is doing… something with something called Redroot, and then gets saved by Apocalypse. I have no idea what is happening. Thankfully, we then transfer to a plotline I'm more familiar with, namely Firestar doing undercover things. Having learned that Doctor Stasis is basically gonna try to kill Juggernaut and steal his power, she goes to save him, slipping him some intel that he takes to the other free X-Men as he escapes. She also checks in with Cyclops, who is still captive, and lets him know she's undercover via Morse code. Some Orchis people get suspicious of Firestar afterward, though she manages to come up with a mostly-believable excuse and pins it on Mystique. (This lie proves useful later on in IIM #14.)
The middle of the issue has a letter addressed to Orchis staff from Doctor Stasis and mentions Ben Urich potentially tumbling out of a window, which is a reference to Uncanny Avengers #4, where Captain Krakoa attacks him.
The issue ends with Kitty and Kamala landing in Europe somewhere in order to look for some mutants that Orchis had their eye on. They end up meeting Logan there, and shockingly, Doctor Doom, who hilariously tells them, "You're not in Europe at all. This. Is… Latveria." Is Latveria actually not in Europe? Is Doctor Doom just cray? Who knows!
In X-Men #29, the X-Men fight and then dine with Doctor Doom and the Latverian mutants. Doom says he basically knew Krakoa had been doomed to fail because Xavier couldn't handle it. Anyway, things resolve peacefully (though apparently for stress relief Doom likes using the Avengers as target practice, as seen above) and the X-Men head back to the U.S. feeling reasonably confident that while Doom isn't going to do anything now, he'll likely intervene at some point as Orchis ramps up its anti-mutant plans, since the Latverian mutants are Latverian citizens and he is invested in them. However, their relief is short-lived, since they come back to find Synch and Talon (aka X-23), their interim leaders, gone.

I am gutted Xavier isn't in season 2 of Wednesday. Please don't take that to mean I like the actor or am okay with anything he has been accused of cause I am not and he should of been removed from the show as he was 10000%.
However before it all came out I enjoyed his character and his friendship with Wednesday (I always felt it was much more a friendship than a love interest) and it's a shame that's now gone.
If only somebody else more deserving of the role had gotten the part.
i feel like this may have come out in my blogging of the show, but it was a while ago so honestly, i'm very anti-the boys of the show. even if some parts were more friendship-based, it felt to me more like they were trying to force a 'love triangle' that honestly didn't have any place in the characterisation or plot. personally, i'm looking forward to s2 if they're moving away from that. wednesday has plenty of other interactions which are intriguing to flesh out more, i'm personally very much hoping for more wednesday and bianca because their dynamic was very intriguing to me but mostly put on the backburner for her interactions with xavier
#Anonymous#wednesday for ts#sorry i don't really know what to say to this asdfgh#don't want to come off negative but yeah i just never cared for his character

Religion: Califinidad(?)/Califinity
I created this fictional religion a few years ago in 2021, when I was obsessed with The Prom. Well, it is actually part of a crossover between BNHA and The Prom, then I added other series like Amphibia, The Owl House, and Attack on Titan (I know some people reading this are getting brain aneurysm lol). The idea was that, other than enriching the world, it will create a realistic scenario if people start developing powers. I would like to try add this in my dune fic, either as a minority religion or somewhat bi-worship like how Japan does with shintoism and Buddhism.
(Which willbe difficult since how the religion come to be).
The religion (depending on the denomination) focuses less on worshipping on said religion name (Califia) but more of what her and her... friends, disciples, group (?)'s beliefs are. It focuses on Califia's philosophy, spiritual belief, and ideology. The religion is imperative in quirk society (mainly in the Americas) because Califia and her group were first-generation quirk users. Califinity is frankly a quirk religion.
So the lore behind Calafia and her group is that Calafia :
1: was born in Central America (Guatemala likely), a Mestiza, and her family emigrated to California in mid-2040 (funny because the US was fucked at this point).
2: Form an academy/sanctuary for quirk children who were either abandoned by their parents or who came to learn how to control their power.
3: Is in a polygamous relationship with two women (lol, lmao even).
I based Califia on two characters: Xavier and Magento. She created the academy, Califia's Orphanage and Academy for the Gifted, to protect quirk children during a time when anti-quirk was horrific. However, unlike Professor X, she is very not a pacifist or the idea co-existing with non-quirks. She won't go antagonizing non-quirks society (or the government), but she is very "don't fuck with us and we won't fuck with you". Naturally, the government does so, and led a shadow war between them.
The academy, which is now a pro hero academy (federal-level), is located in Solano County, CA because I'm a California gal (and also California was like, one of the safest place to be a quirk during that time).
So, Califia's friends/disciples/group were quirks (naturally lol) and they were mostly either ciswomen or genderqueers (there is only one man and he is a transman). They were also non-white, either agonistic or not deeply religious, leftists, and educated. During a time when 1. People were developing powers that are coming out of nowhere; and 2. The US was just coming out of a horrific civil war. So they try to figure out why people were having powers. These will lead to the fundamental aspect of the religion.
They believe that people individually have energy, similar to souls/spirit. This energy helps form the universe and keep it stable. When a person dies, their energy/soul/spirit dissipated and merged with the universe. How quirks come to be is that quirks are the manifestation of a person's energy. The more powerful a quirk is, the greater the person's energy is. Sometimes, a person's energy, which is supposed to be nontangible, merged more directly to its host, and that is how mutation quirks are formed.
This helps scientifically explain when some quirks, like Momo, could defied thermodynamics.
Calafinity also suppose have a holy book, similar to The Bible. How the book were structured that it contains Califia's and her group 13 journals. The book is structured by beginning what Califia's belief how quirks come to be (explaining spiritually), then categorized Califia's early life (which is pitiful before her quirk awakening) chronologically. Then, it will lead into the 13 disciples' journals, each explaining their early life, their quirks awakening, and how they met Califia. Their journals will also explain how they believe how quirks and, by proxy, the main religion spirituality. So, the Books will likely come in 2 versions: one that is categorized by events, belief, and the disciples' views on Calafia; or, the Book separates the journals. However, there are important chapters in the Book: the final years of Calafia's. Actually, the chapter for the last days of Califia's, which she was killed in, is called "The Final Ballad" or "The Ballad of San Francisco.""
Califia has an archnemesis. The archnemesis isn't viewed as The Devil (though some denomination do view him as such), however, they view him as an antithesis of Califia's value. The archnemesis, named Dreadmond (he has many other aliases), is a quirk supremist, and by meta, I will view him as the Americas (or at least, in the US) counterpart of All for One. However, unlike him, Dreadmond does not work in the shadow. He is at the center of his legions (?), wnd is so in every battle. he makes sure that he is front and center. His philosophy is malleable depending on the era and followers, but he very much believes in might and Social Darwinism. He is charismatic, energetic, and authoritative, which allowed him to attract many meta-kinds (quirk-kinds). It also helped just how fucking awful having a quirk doing those time.
Califia and Dreadmond, initially, had informal agreement of not interfering with one another in their 30s (humans, by this time, double their lifespan). Both were already in a shadow war with the government, were at different coasts with Dreadmon and his followers being on the East Coast, and did not want to further weaken their cause. However, Califia utterly depised Dreadmond: even though Califia focused on quirk-kinds and hated the discrimination they face, she had no issue with non-quirks, especially ones who are sympathetic or helping their cause. Dreadmond, meanwhile, is a genocidal, eugenic tryant who believes non-quriks should, at best, be serfs that serve quirks. Later on, as quirk-kinds become the majority, Dreadmond starts changing this view, now harsher on weak quirks. Non-quirks, which he refers to as Roto (broken in Spanish), should be eradicated.
So, he is very much a horrible human being. Also, he is Puerto Rican lol.
So, while Dreadmond wants to dominate over the Americas (or, at least, the US), Califia wants to create a quirk society, locating on the West Coast, or at least California. Other than being a Cal-gal (and me being bias), California is isolated from the rest of the country thanks to the Sierra Mountains, the other side of the country, and far more tolerable compared to what going on past the Mississippi River.
How the conflict between them happened escalated suddenly and quickly. Dreadmond and his followers are, being bluntly, terrorists and though made life hellish in the East. His actions also increased anti-quirks sentiment and caused many quirks to migrated to the West Coast (by BNHA era, California has a population of 80 million, Oregon 9 million, and Washington (goes by different name) 13 million). There were some arguments between them, more in the likes of "can you maybe fucking chill for a moment?" "How 'bout you 🫵 chill." I don't know what really lead into this but one of Dreadmond's followers killed one of Califia's lover. All of a sudden, Califia and Dreadmond were in war. And Califia wants to kill him.
The war was short (lasting like six months), but it was brutal and bloody. Califia managed to create a truce with the US government (it more like "don't ever fuck with my people again and I will give you his head") which led into destructive battle. The final battle at San Francisco, which lasted for a day, destroyed almost half of it. Half of Sunset District, most of Market Street and the Financial District were just obliterate, leveled to the ground. The fight between Califia and Dreadmond pretty much ended not only the battle but the war itself and began the Dark Era (or Vigilantes Era, idfk anything about bhna history lol).
Califia was killed in the battle, and Dreadmond vanished, believing that he was either killed or went into hiding (he was actually hibernating beneath the Golden Gate Bridge waters). Her disciples were factual due to her; she was adhesive, the most important person of their group, and what held them together.
I didn't really talk about the disciples, mainly because I don't have a name for them (lol), but they're important in Calafinity, especially some who help disseminated Califia's teaching and belief, and one who mystified her. I gonna be referring them as their alias since it helps me. The most imperative figure was The Apostle, the youngest of the disciples (if Califia was in her mid-30s before her death, then The Apostle was likely in her late teen). When the disciples were factual, The Apostle spread about Califia, either her beliefs, her philosophy, her deeds, and even the possibility she was actually a deity (I also think the internet will be somewhat gone so she has to go it the old fashioned way). I would like to say that one of the denominations - one of the most popular ones, has a somewhat systematic structure (which is something Califia will actually hates lol), and it's dominanted in Northern California- will be named after The Apostle.
There is The Prophet, whose quirk is clairvoyance (though vaguely). There is The Man, and he is called that because I thought it was funny. Maybe The Lover for one of Califia's lover.
I don't know much about holidays. The Final Ballad will certainly be a holiday; ending the battle and war, stopping Dreadmond's tyranny, and for Califia's death/transcendence. However, do of how imperative quirk is to Califia and that Calafinity is a quir-religion, a child gaining their quirk will likely be one of the important day for them. For Japan, a quirk awakening will be a simple "Oh that great!" moment. For Califinitans, it is a celebration, a day where the community gathered at the local temple, throw a party, and formally welcome the child. Parents are required to mark the time and date when their child's quirk were awaken. Because of this, people usually celebrate two personal days for themselves: Birthday and Awakenday.
I certain I said this already, but Califinity superseded Christianity in the Americas, becoming the dominant religion both continents. However, this happened after The Great Blooming. The Great Blooming was an event a century (maybe half a century?) after the Final Ballad. It is similar to the Baby Bloom, except instead of having a population bloom, the ratio between non-quirks and quirks (1 quirk to every 4 non-quirks) flipped. Now, more than half of children were having a quirk awakening, and this led to another civil war, referred to as The Neo War (Human Purist teaming up with Neo-Confederates) (Also, the West Coast went mostly unscathed, lol)(also, Dreadmond was in). Doing a time where the majority are irreligious, horrific events occur, and the new generation were quirks, naturally Quirk-kinds will latch onto Califinity.
To be honest, I can't really think of anything else. There are other quir-religions in my bnha world au. There is a non-religious version of Califinity called Califinism, mostly about Califia's philosophy about quirks and how it should be used (she is a social individualist). All Might, Toshinori Yagi, is a Califinist.
Can't really think anything else, bye 👋.

Earth-18104 - 1950
List of events happening in 1950 on Earth-18104! This is shorter than the last one. There's some births dates randomly out here, not all of them are important.
The (N) represent the births and the numbers the ages of characters. There's some of my OCs here, but not as much as the last lists. Not all events follow the Marvel comics time-line.
List of events of Earth-18104 (Resume)
1950 -
• Amélia Voght (16) was a mutant born with the ability to transubstantiate solid matter into vapor. After her mutation manifested, she left her home and family to escape their hatred for her mutant gifts and became a nurse.
• June 25 - The Fatherland Liberation War / Korean War begins.
• Since he was a child, Adam Brashear (24) showed himself to be very intelligent.
• He was a former quarterback at Cornell University, where he graduated with a doctorate in electrical engineering and theoretical physics.
• October 10 - The mutant Janos Quested, known as Riptide, is born. (N)
1951 -

• Cain Marko (20) was drafted and sent to Korea, however, he defected and ended up finding a mystical ruby in the Temple of Cyttorak that transformed him into the Unstoppable Juggernaut.
• Just then, enemy high-explosive bombardment caused a cave-in and Marko was buried under several thousand tons of rock.
• His younger brother, Charles Xavier (14), receives news of his apparent death and mourns the loss of his brother, despite their terrible relationship.
• Logan (66) resurfaced as a mercenary; operated mostly out of Ottawa and Calgary, with few exceptions in South America and Madrid, working for government agencies, mainly the CIA, and became one of the intelligence field's deadliest free agents.

X-MEN - MISSED OPPORTUNITIES
A lot of X-Men, indeed a lot of Marvel characters, have transformations, alter egos, symbiotes, etc that cause trouble. Jean Grey has the Phoenix, Angel has Archangel, Malice takes over a lot of women (Dazzler, Sue Storm, Rogue, Mirage, Betsy Braddock, and many more), Gambit has Death, Magik and Darkchilde. That short list is really only scratching the surface. So many heroes get transformed or similar once and once it's defeated or overcome it becomes an ongoing trial for them.
Piotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin made a deal with Cyttorak of Crimson Bands fame for the power of JUGGERNAUT once, for reasons I don't recall right now. I always thought it was a bit of a boring choice tbh - his angsting over being a big dumb monster isolated from the things he loves is already a thing he does. Sure it was fun here and there but it was more of a 'struggling with the Dark Side' thing and Cyttorak didn't have all that much power over him. I think a better choice for a recurring alter ego would have been....
THE PROLETARIAN - WORKER'S HERO OF THE SOVIET UNION! With Vladimir Lenin's face on the chest of his sinister communist red overalls and everything. Obviously the Soviet Union doesn't exist anymore but that's even better IMO. What does the Proletarian do after the Cold War ends and capitalism has 'won'? Siezes the MFing means of production for the people, that's what! Does he smash the X-Men too? Probably, they are definitely neoliberal bootlickers who are allied with several billionaires, and while they're not as bad as the Avengers they have an awful lot of faith in the USA as an institution despite it constantly trying to kill them.
Obviously this would never happen. Stan Lee was very anti communist, even if he didn't know a damn thing about it, and Marvel has remained so to this day. More broadly, a century of McCarthyism and Red Scare messaging has done some serious damage. Also, Marvel just does not do anything other than the most milquetoast liberal politics. Anything else is mocked and defeated by the narrative itself. Personally, I think that would make it even more interesting, as being committed to any form of anti capitalism to any degree is soul crushing while living under it.
I'd do anything for a Colossus solo where he interrogates his relationship with Communism, because the man is a true believer despite often defending capitalist interests (as far as he's shown to believe anything.)
This question, for instance. Does his power belong to the state? Xavier handwaves it by saying it belongs to the world (AKA his interests) but it's never truly touched on again. Krakoa would have been a great opportunity, a mostly moneyless society that already had bartering and mutual aid happening. Not everyone's needs were met and plenty of people fell through the cracks - Colossus or The Proletarian would have been the perfect advocate.
It's Kurt and Legion who come closest to forming a commune without hierarchy, and Kurt was working on justice reform. Forge had global poverty and homelessness solved, but ORCHIS and The Fall of X put a stop to that. Lenin's Ghost!
Bring back The Proletarian, you cowards!
