Don't mind me I'm trying to archive my Death Note OCs before I forget to draw them :')
Suraci -
Shinigami
He/It
Completely translucent skin, metal cage for a chest with fire trapped in it, glass orb eyes, wax wings, wax claws, glass teeth. BALD.
Beyond's "dad" as far as Shinigami can be called that
Got fuckin' BODIED by Cinis after he found out that it possessed a human and had sex with the guy's wife, producing a semi-Shinigami kid. He ded.
Stranger: Your parents know you talk like that?
Baby Beyond: They dead. •_•.
Stranger: ...(0-0");
Cinis -
Shinigami King
He/She (Mostly he)
BIG. Completely void black save for his wings, which are made up of bones. Long locs with glass shards throughout, hollow eye sockets, gold fangs, spider legs jutting out of his spine behind his wings, cloven feet. No flesh to his cheeks so you can see all her teeth ✨
He mostly just vibes until someone fucks something up. He's also not always super pressed do anything about it either lol. Deadass she could hear explosions in the distance and just be like "Damn hope that didn't ruin anything important. Anyway." Depending on what fic I'm sticking him in, Cinis either admires Kira from afar, or is out for his life/pride. There's SOME inbetween, but not much. If you noticed I made him bigender to mirror my hc that Light is bigender yes you did.
Vasykl Keehl -
Human
He/Him
Mello's older brother who got separated from him in the system. Spent the rest of his life trying to track his little brother down but being blocked by Wammy's at every turn. Grew up and became a private security guard that still looks for Mello on the side.
Vas is,,,,very tall. Tall and broad—looks kind of like Aiber but a bit softer. He's blond, just like Mello, but his eyes are hazel instead of blue. Daddy's eyeballs. He wears a lot of leather, just like Mello, but he looks more like a biker than a BDSM king. Imagine S1 Emma Swan but male.
Henka -
Human
He/Him
Trans! He's fifteen, one of Kira's faithful brought in by Mikami. Very shy and quiet but also lethally loyal to Light. An acknowledged acolyte and eventual High Priest.
Mice -
Human
They/Them
Fuckin' NUTS. Small, wild brown hair, likes to climb things. Always wearing someone else's jacket. It changes every time you turn around—it's like a superpower. Age ambiguous but anywhere from twelve to fifteen, depending on whether or not they're acting serious at the time. Lotsa freckles and big ole blue-gray eyes.
Small time criminal and petty thief that Kira employs to get him information on the Bigger Fish™ of the underworld. They adore mushrooms and shiny things; they are also homeless and slightly feral. Mice will rob you blind before you can get through saying hello to them. Light becomes very good at dodging sudden sneak attacks because Mice keeps trying to climb him—it's quickly becoming their life goal.
Spider -
Human
She/Her
Somewhere around fifteen-sixteen-seventeen. Black. Dark brown hair that ombres into hot pink at the ends—her bangs cover her eyes and most of the top half of her face; effectively making it very difficult for anyone to find out her true name even with Shinigami eyes. Dresses mostly in leather and fluff, always in black and neon. Scene kids WISH they had her swag.
Big ole cyber nerd. Even better at hacking than Matt. She figures out who Kira is and tracks him down so she can talk to him—she mirrors Misa a bit but her relationship with Light is far closer to Sayu's. She's a (annoying) guiding voice on morals and helps Light track down corrupt government officials on the condition that he, you know, calm the hell down on murdering purse snatchers and pick pocketers. She originally tracked Kira down because he murdered her mom—not that she's particularly sad about it.
"You killed my mom"
"I don't remember that but I'm not going to apologize—"
"Oh no you don't have to, she was a bitch, I wanted to say thanks actually"
No, Mice and Spider do not know the other exists. This is a testament to both of their prowess lmao. Light's definitely not going to tell them because they would band together against him to annoy the absolute shit out of him. Also blackmail. They would totally blackmail him.
#death note ocs#death note#suraci#cinis#mice#spider#most of my ocs will probably always be team kira#just because i like crime#i could give L some crime besties but he already has some so what's even the point :/#i thought about giving him an arsonist but then realized he has beyond for that#original characters#cinis is technically already a character i just...expanded him into a person i could actually write#rough concepts#might change some things around later to suit whatever fic im throwing 'em in#vasykl keehl#henka

hello the randomizer has picked these 5 questions for Rhystyl 🚆 TRAIN - what is their answer to the trolley problem? 💙 BLUE HEART - do they miss their s/o easily? how do they act when their s/o isn't around? ⚾ BASEBALL - can they play sports? what is their best position if they play a team sport? what's their strong suit (speed, power etc.)? 💡 LIGHTBULB - is your oc a planner? do they write down every small detail or just wing it? 👻 GHOST - do they believe in ghosts? what are their "ghostly experiences", if any?
"I'm sure some of these won't be too long" she said, like a complete fool. As if I haven't been dealing with Tyr's bullshit for like a year, why would I expect any of my children to be different? Also I have so much Rhyst lore that lives solely in my head so far, so thank you for finally giving me a bit of a release valve for some of it, lol.
[Emoji OC Asks!]
🚆 TRAIN - what is their answer to the trolley problem?
In essence, he has to face a trolley problem equivalent on Belsavis. Of course, Rhyst would have loved to avoid ever having to make such a choice and he’d honestly probably loathe the thing posed solely as a thought experiment because there’s no version of this in which he doesn’t feel some level of guilt and he deals with plenty enough of it as it is without adding ‘theoretical guilt’ onto the pile.
He’s not proud to say Scourge at his shoulder rather consistently reminding him that Krannus was abusing his nature as a Jedi to lay traps and delays in his path got to him, but when the good doctor explains that a reactor failure on Belsavis would decimate the entire system and not only the planet, the weight is finally enough to sway Rhyst’s heavy heart. He’s but one Jedi trying to take on multiple failsafe plots to destroy an entire planet and fuel one of the most evil and powerful entities in the galaxy and training teaches them that attachment to one life over the good of the many is wrong. It’s on that reasoning that he leaves the doctor behind with an apology in the deep prison sector. If Krannus gained any more ground on them and he failed in his mission, well… There’s little use in saying he’d never be able to live with the guilt because none of them would’ve had the opportunity. Instead, he’ll have to live with the doctor’s uncertain fate weighing on top of the damage he did to Republic forces and interests while under the Emperor’s influence.
As an aside, I imagine he tried to pull a favor out of Special Forces and send someone looking for the doctor, but with how widespread the riots and troubles are on Belsavis, Republic forces are already spread thin. Rhyst doesn’t have the heart to protest too heavily when the rebuke comes that it’s unfortunate, but it’s resources the Republic is unlikely to have available to spare. Scourge remains sharp at his shoulder to remind him their fight against the Emperor will not wait. They must make their leave while they can.
💙 BLUE HEART - do they miss their s/o easily? how do they act when their s/o isn't around?
First, to establish some info about his relationships in the first place! Kira and Rhyst finish their training together and get Knighted around the same time; Maltaf shoulders finishing Kira’s training in tandem with Rhyst’s to accommodate Master Kiwiik’s assignment and her eventual recovery from Tatooine. It’s a somewhat unusual arrangement, but the pressures of such large-scale threats have affected the pacing and proctoring of training before and they are all certain it will do so again.
That established, him and Kira do start to experiment together. Kira taps into Rhyst’s lighter side and helps pull his head out of the every-growing weight of their responsibilities. She’s an incredibly important link in his support network. They share the struggle of figuring out who they are as both people and Jedi. He’s not always as certain as her about exactly where their relationship is going, but, in the end, he does know he values her as a friend and the world’s a lighter, somewhat brighter place when she hits him with a smile and a “tough guy” quip.
He tends to be a bit more reserved whenever she’s not at his side, but they’re more than capable of operating independently and Rhyst tries to for a time after everything that transpires on the Fortress and his time under the Emperor’s influence. He pushes her away for a time, struggling to wrangle with a tangled mess of guilt, fear, and renewed doubts about his place in the Order and the kind of responsibilities the Council seemed to almost carelessly entrust to him because he’s not quite sure he’s ready to share that vulnerability and in no way does he want to destabilize her again, either. Eventually, however, she pulls him back, gently tracing the new scar across his cheek from his duel with Master Maltaf to reassure him he’s not alone, that she doesn’t hold him alone responsible for the fall. He believed in her, after all. Now she’s going to return the favor.
Furthermore, I believe they do benefit from time apart when Zakuul invades, even if it is difficult. They both benefit from the space to face their inner uncertainties separately and reaffirm their own identities before they become more seriously involved. Their relationship during the class stories has its tender moments for sure, but they are young lovers and it’s reflected in the nature of their relationship. Rhyst doesn’t turn her away, but given the burdens they weather, he’s not in the right place to give her or ask for something more until they’ve got a bit more growth and experience under their belts.
Still, their returns from time apart on separate missions is usually met in a playful kiss and Kira scooped up into his arms. And usually plenty of light jesting on Kira’s part.
⚾ BASEBALL - can they play sports? what is their best position if they play a team sport? what's their strong suit (speed, power etc.)?
It’s not his favorite hobby, but he wouldn’t mind casually playing with some friends. His favored role would likely be in some sort of support position where he can rally teammates and watch their backs.
While Maltaf was key to teaching him the tactics and philosophies of the Jedi Shadows, Satia was his primary teacher on saber techniques and imparted her coordination and efficiency with a dual-bladed saber upon him. In short, he’s got good footwork and he’s a cooperative sort, which makes playing on a team a far smoother endeavor.
💡 LIGHTBULB - is your oc a planner? do they write down every small detail or just wing it?
Not particularly. While somewhat inquisitive, he’s not a deep-diver when it comes to planning or researching. Maltaf taught him to trust in his feelings, explore them, and ultimately follow his heart. I wouldn’t put him too strongly on either end of the spectrum; he’s not as detail-heavy as Satia, nor is he quite as impulsive as Kira can be. Rhyst likes to know what is expected of him, but he doesn’t want to be so mired in minute details that it’s difficult to finally act.
👻 GHOST - do they believe in ghosts? what are their "ghostly experiences", if any?
While Maltaf became his primary master, Master Orgus Din still played a role in his training and it is partly his influence after his fall that allows Maltaf and Satia the opening they need to free him from the Emperor’s influence. Rhyst’s skill with the Force is fairly moderate, allowing him occasional visions of what may come to pass and aiding his perception during combat, allowing for betting dodging and acrobatic strikes. The concept of the Force and the universe having a greater will is certainly a large one for him to wrangle, but he doesn’t doubt that it certainly seems it does, sometimes. It’d seem a bit ridiculous if he didn’t considering what he owes Orgus and Satia for breaking through the Emperor’s Darkness or even seeing what eventually becomes of Revan with his own eyes.

A new character from Neva’s past shows up in this chapter too as well as a couple of my mutuals OC’s hehe so I hope you like it~!
Word Count: 2,333

A couple of weeks had passed since the Star Festival, and the closer it got to the royal magic knights exam the more anxious Neva got. She, Yuno, Klaus, and Mimosa had all signed up and had started their training right away. It was probably one of the most grueling weeks of Neva’s life, the last time she had trained this hard was when she was preparing to try out for the Magic Knights. She couldn’t help the small groan that escaped her as they entered the building where she assumed the exam was to begin, her muscles ached, her back was killing her, she was beyond exhausted, and standing around was just making it worse. But she would get through it, she would do whatever it took to join and help protect the kingdom from the Eye of the Midnight Sun.
“ You alright?” Mimosa asked as she turned toward her, she nodded as she rubbed her shoulder.
“ I’m fine. Just a little sore, maybe I’d feel a lot better if I was able to go to the hot springs for some training.” Neva threw pointedly at Yuno, who only let out a small chuckle in response. When he had told them the new captain of the Crimson Lion’s, Mereoleona Vermillion, had decided to take him and some of the others on an impromptu training session in the strong magic region she was beyond jealous! What she wouldn’t give to go to one to just relax for a few minutes.
“ Maybe if you get strong enough like my Yuno you’ll be able to go there one day!” Belle told her, Neva just shrugged at her. “ Hey! Don’t ignore me blondie!” She suddenly shouted in irritation. Neva rolled her eyes, Belle was quite possessive over Yuno and always tried to scare off anyone who remotely showed an interest in him, especially if they were girls.
“ Hey isn’t that Asta?” Mimosa said before walking over to him, Noelle, Luck, and a couple of other Black Bull members she didn’t recognize. Yuno and Klaus followed suit as did Neva, but she suddenly stopped and looked around, she could feel someone's eyes watching her. It sent a chill down her spine and made her uneasy, she tried to shake it off but to no avail, she didn’t need to lose her focus. She watched as the Wizard King as well as King Kira came out and explained the rules, Neva frowned instantly. Great, they were going to be paired up randomly. She looked over the list of names and her eyes widened.
“ Alecdora and Langris entered too?!” Neva exclaimed in shock, apparently she wasn’t the only one as the others eyes widened as well. How was a Vice-Captain allowed to enter in this? How did that make anything fair?! Well, it would be just as unfair if they said he couldn’t try out. She sighed and shook her head before noticing she wasn’t the only one to notice all the Golden Dawn members that had decided to join this exam, apparently everyone was already counting themselves out because of it. Neva couldn’t stop the slightly smug smirk from appearing on her face, she was very proud to call herself a member of the Golden Dawn, the best Magic Knight squad in the kingdom, and for others to acknowledge it as well just made her a little more smug about it.
“ Hey Mimosa, isn’t that your brother?” Neva asked suddenly as she noticed Kirsch Vermillion's name on the list, she saw Mimosa’s eyebrow twitch in irritation.
“ Yep. It is.” She said curtly before turning back to the King as he spoke.
“ The rules are simple: protect your crystals at all costs and try to destroy the other teams first!” He explained, the rules seemed pretty simple. Neva watched as a spacial mage opened a portal and they were all instructed to go inside.
——
Neva blinked as she was suddenly blinded by bright sunlight, she looked on in awe as she saw a vast earthy plane in front of her. There appeared to be old decrepit buildings and even a waterfall, some woods were on the other side. This place was perfect. She looked up at the list of names once again as they appeared, searching for her own.
“ Who are you paired up with?” Klaus asked as he was also searching for her name. Neva instantly groaned as she saw the names.
“ Sonas Vitae, a Green Mantis and Lavis Divos, a Crimson Lion.” She told him as she bowed her head, was it too much to ask that she be paired up with people she actually knew? “ Who are you paired up with?” Neva asked defeatedly, Klaus looked at the board again and she heard him nearly choke. Her head shot up and she instantly searched for his name.
“ Luck from the Black Bulls and Puli from the Blue Rose Knights.” Neva looked over at him and couldn’t contain her laughter. “ Good luck with that, you’re going to need it.” She patted him on the shoulder. She heard him grumble before noticing Mimosa and Yuno speaking with Asta and Noelle. She walked over to them and smiled slightly.
“ It’s good to see you both again.” Neva told them with a nod of her head.
“ It’s good to see you too Neva! Do your best today alright?! I know you’ll be able to do it!” Asta cheered as soon as he saw her. She blinked a bit as his suddenness but it made her a little happy that she had someone other than her squad cheering her on. Noelle rolled her eyes.
“ I apologize for this idiots outburst. But it is good to see you.” Noelle said after doing a small flip of her pigtail. Neva nodded.
“ So; who are you all paired up with?” Neva asked before they all looked at the board again.
“ I’m paired up with Mimosa and a Purple Orca named Lugner.” Asta said slowly as he read off the board, Mimosa clapped her hands together excitedly. Neva had noticed she seemed to have the beginnings of a crush with him and it made her happy for Mimosa, but it also seemed to her that Noelle had a thing for him as well. It was very interesting.
“ And I’m paired up with Noelle and Ringard from the Green Mantises.” Yuno told her with a sigh, Noelle’s head quickly shot to his direction.
“ Excuse me?! You should be honored to be on a team with me, peasant!” Noelle raised her voice and sounded incredulous, Neva blinked and almost started laughing, did she forget how powerful Yuno actually was? Neva watched Yuno look at her with slight confusion and almost boredom.
“ Why should I be? I'm going to be the one carrying the team the entire time.” Yuno told her in his usual blunt way, Neva and the others just looked at him with wide eyes. Why did he have to be so honest sometimes?
Noelle gaped at him like a fish out of water before shouting at him about how she would be the one carrying the team. Neva watched the exchange with amusement, it was like a group of friends hanging out. She suddenly stiffened as she felt eyes on her again, she looked around to see if she saw anyone staring at her.
She noticed a young girl from the Azure Deer currently in the middle of her teammates bickering, Neva couldn’t help but feel bad for the poor girl she looked so annoyed by them. She saw Leopold Vermillion speaking with a young woman who had reddish-blonde hair and a warm graceful smile; they seemed to be very close, it reminded Neva of her relationship with her Captain a bit. But the more she looked, the less she saw, maybe it was just her imagination? She shook her head before directing her attention back to her friends when she heard a voice, a voice she had hoped to never hear again.
“ Neva? Is that you?” The voice called, she saw all her friends turn to look at the stranger behind them. Neva paled instantly, her back straightened, her throat suddenly going dry, and her blood began to boil with such intensity she thought it would burn right through her skin. She turned around slowly and saw who the voice belonged to and her eyes narrowed.
Llyr Ozark, she had known him for a short time when she was growing up. She looked him up and down, he had grown quite a lot since they were kids, and she had to admit he was handsome. His red hair had lightened as he grew older, his face became less chubby and instead more narrow and his jaw more chiseled, his eyes were such a light blue that they almost appeared white, he was also much taller. She noticed a few of the girls around were suddenly paying attention to him, she rolled her eyes, that would only serve to boost his ego. He was already so full of himself, always had been. He smirked as he also looked her up and down.
“ My look at you, you’ve grown up.” Llyr told her in a light casual tone, he was only two years older than her, and yet he acted as though he were talking to a small child.
Yuno’s eyes narrowed at the stranger, he was a Coral Peacock by the looks of his robes. He glanced at Neva and noticed how pale she had become, as though she were looking at a ghost, he could feel her unease. But it was mixed with something else...anger? Her face gave nothing away, but her demeanor, the look in her eyes, told him everything he needed to know. She despised this man. Yuno stepped up beside her, he knew she was more than capable of taking this guy if she had too, but he wanted her to know he was there to back her up.
“ Who are you exactly?” He asked cooly, the stranger turned his gaze to Yuno.
“ Ah, I take it Neva’s never mentioned me. What a pity. My name is Llyr Ozark, from house Ozark.” Llyr looked them up and down. “ You’re the two peasants from the Star Festival correct? Such a pity that great power is wasted on the likes of you.” He told them disparagingly, Yuno glared and took another step forward before Neva threw a hand out to stop him, her face having regained some of its color and she glanced over at him.
“ Don’t. He’s not worth it. Besides, his idiocy might be contagious.” She said in the most serious tone Yuno had heard, she still had that anger and hatred in her eyes. He wondered what Llyr had done to her to make her this angry. Llyr laughed slightly, albeit a humorless one.
“Heh, it’s funny; you always did gravitate towards powerful people.” He turned before continuing. “ I just wanted to see how my old friend was doing and to wish you good luck, you’re going to need it. Oh, you might want to find your team and strategize, the exam is about to start.” He walked away. All the tension that had grown suddenly disappeared. Neva let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding.
“ You alright?” Yuno asked, he saw the tension melt away from her. Neva nodded before walking away herself.
“ He’s right. I need to find my team, I’ll see you all later.” She told him quickly before going off to find Sonas and Lavis, the problem was; she had no idea what either looked like!
———
Neva finally found them, although they didn’t have much time to really chat, nor did she really want to chat. Seeing Llyr again really threw her off, she had thought he had fallen off the face of the earth, but instead he had joined the Magic Knights! She could hear Sonas and Lavis speak but wasn’t really listening, she wanted this done and over with.
“ Just do as I say.” Neva told them coldly, they both looked at her with wide eyes and raised eyebrows.
“ D-Don’t you want to know what our magical abilities are?” Sonas asked softly, he seemed very shy and timid, while Lavis was very loud and boisterous.
“ Not really. I just want this done and over with.” Neva replied, normally she would try and be polite with them, especially Sonas since he was so shy. But seeing Llyr, all the memories that she had tried so hard to forget and put behind her, all came flooding back the moment she saw him. She shook her head, she needed to be clear headed when it was her team's turn.
“ Typical Golden Dawn, always so full of themselves.” Lavis scoffed, that statement caused Neva to snap. She whipped around to face them, her face so calm it was scary.
“ You’re damn right I’m full of myself! I’m a member of the best squad in this kingdom, I know my magic better than anyone else could ever imagine! I worked my ass off to get where I am today, so you either do as I say or just sit back and stay out of my way!” Neva saw the surprise in their eyes, she didn’t even raise her voice and they looked terrified of her. She quickly turned her back on them.
Neva wrapped her arms around herself as she watched the first team enter the field, she had taken her anger out on the wrong people. She was angry at the Captain, at Llyr, and most of all at herself for letting her emotions get the better of her. She sighed, she needed to get a hold of herself before she did something stupid when their team was up.
——-
I’m sorry this chapter isn’t very good, the next one will actually focus more on the battles and her relationship with Langris and you might find out just a little more on her and Llyr, maybe 👀! Also I do have a picrew of what he looks like I just haven’t posted it haha 😅! Thanks for reading and I hope you have a good day~!

wait i'm late to this one but 🌠+ Murphy bc i miss him
(i miss him too :( reverting to my comfort ocs in this time is a coping mechanism)
okay SO i have a TON of au ideas i could indulge him BUT i kind of wanted to go for human!murphy au so let’s hit it!
okay so this is modern human au so we still know all the usual suspects BUT this time he goes to SCHOOL
he’s very loner kid, back of the class, second string of the football team (which is not impressive bc as we know football means NOTHING at beacon hills), clarinet player in band
hiding that his dad is beating the shit out of him so he’s always wearing long sleeves (like in canon tbh) like flannels and sweatshirts
has a HUGE crush on scott pre-bite (hello loser loner kid finds loser loner kid) and then post-bite is kind of... thrown off
friends with boyd. friends with boyd. i will not back down. in this au he is BEST friends with boyd. (also probably still friends with oliver bc oliver feels bad for the bitch)
still calls no one by their first name ever but he does call boyd ‘boyd’ bc he likes him
he stays late at the school one night and runs into stiles and scott doing wolf stuff and that’s how he gets roped into everything
becomes apart of the core gang after that; still closest with derek out of everyone but does know who lydia and allison are surprisingly
still knows a ton of weird references bc his mom is into really old movies so we still get the iconic ‘larry talbot’ line
morrell actually helps get him tf out of his house bc she realizes what’s going on
probably goes to college in this universe bc he has proper documentation and it is expected of him
still ends up with scott in... pretty much the same way? like there isn’t a lot of build up in season one because of the sc*llison so
still adores kira and is close with her; most of his relationships are pretty much the same minus..... having knowledge of who lydia and the others are
send me 🌠 + an oc for an au!

🎾 Reaching Out (Tenipuri) #1: The Twins
Genre: Friendship, Family, Comedy, Fluff ☁
Word Count: 1,887 ☁
Pairing: OC x ?? ☁
World: Prince of Tennis ☁
Author’s Note: This was written a long time ago and remains as one of my favorite pieces to date. I don’t know if I’ll be completing this series, but I’m still proud of it and want to post what I’ve already written.
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
Rojo Kira followed the pathway toward the tennis courts in Rikkai Daigaku Fuzoku, the ponk of the balls growing louder with every step she took. School had ended a while ago, leaving only the after school clubs behind. More specifically, the famed tennis club that the junior high students seemed to go nuts over. The high school division had a tennis team, as well, but they didn’t have as much fame as the middle schoolers’ team got. The reason for that was simple. While the middle school did have other sports, tennis was their main one. It was a big deal though, with all the trophies they’ve won, I guess you could see why.
The high school, however, offered more sports, evenly spreading out the student body to cheer for each one equally; not one was more important than the other. Kira wasn’t too sure why it worked out that way, but she summed it up to the fact that high schoolers are more angsty, and need more choices at outlets they can use to vent their frustrations. Middle school was difficult, but nothing compared to high school. It made Kira glad that this was her last year.
One thing Kira had noticed about the fans at Rikkai, was that they were not at all as crazy as everyone believed. Sure, there were a few delusional nut jobs that believed they could win the love of their beloved regular-sama, but most of the kids who cheered and supported Rikkai were doing it because they loved the team and wanted them to win. At Rikkaidai, it was all about rising together as one to annihilate the enemy. It was as simple as that.
Still, Kira thought it a bit stupid to give the regulars so much popularity just because, well, they were regulars. It’s completely pointless, but her opinion didn’t really matter in this case. She did not attend school with them so she couldn’t voice what she thought. And she thanked Kami-sama that she would never have to share a school with them because when they graduate to high school, she’ll be graduating to life.
Kira’s eyes scanned the crowd around and on the tennis courts, searching for a mess of fire-engine red hair that belonged to her younger brother, who was in his second year of middle school. He often stayed behind after school to watch tennis practice, even though he wasn’t part of the team OR the cheering squad. He simply enjoyed watching it. That’s not to say that he didn’t play, but it was on a more hobby basis; it was something he did when he was bored or needed something to pass the time. Really, the Rojo family wasn’t a very sporty family. They loved to watch, but playing one was just too much effort that could be spent sleeping or just lazing around. At least, that’s how the Rojo children are. They can’t be bothered to do anything unless they want to or are ultimately forced into it.
Kira walked up behind her brother, who stood at four ten, and set a hand on his hair, which had recently been dyed. The boy was originally a blonde, but because he wanted to try something different, he somehow managed to convince his mother to let him dye it when he started his second year. Finally, she caved and gave in to his begging – probably just to get him to shut up. It stood out glaringly against his personality. But he had been set on the idea of going with red since the day his big sister came home with blood-red highlights.
Rojo Kaizen looked up at his big sister, his usual bored-calm expression in place. “You’re early, sis.”
“Did you forget? We have to go pick up Kaoru since Ryuuka can’t do it.” She ruffled his already messy hair lightly. “You said you wanted to visit Seigaku again, right? If not, you can walk home with one of the regulars. You said before a couple of them live near us, right?”
“Kirihara-kun does. And I don’t think Sanada-san is too far away, either. But yes, I would like to visit Seigaku. I want to see Eiji-kun again.”
Kira didn’t want to imagine how bouncy and loud the cat-like third year would be when he saw that Kaizen’s hair was about the same shade as his own. She pushed the image away from her mind as she readjusted her bag on her shoulder, leading her brother to the gates. Ryuuka-san, Kira’s stepmother and the twins’ birth mother, was usually the one who went and picked up Kaizen’s twin, who attended Seishun Gakuen in Tokyo, but since she was busy, it was Kira’s job to get him instead. It had been a while since the two had visited Seigaku, so it was questionable how the regulars would react to the pair. Maybe they could slip in and out without being noticed? The pessimistic side of her brain told her not to count on it.
About fifty-five minutes or so later, the pair found themselves entering Seigaku’s gate. No student was in sight, but the sound of tennis balls being hit told them what direction to go in. Like his younger twin, Kaoru liked to watch tennis matches, but he wasn’t on the team himself. He had been asked several times by Seigaku’s team, but he declined each time. He had his sights set on the baseball club, but he had yet to make an effort to join. The twins were a lot alike, especially in looks – the only way you can tell them apart now is by the color of their hair-, and their personalities only differ slightly.
Kaizen was… well, bland for lack of a better word. He always bore the same bored-calm expression, never changing it no matter what situation he was in. He drawled when he talked, always taking on a bored tone. His voice stayed the same pitch, no matter what the situation – the only exception to that is when he’s crying, which isn’t very often. His hair, now an almost blinding red, was short, but his bangs were long, often hanging in his liquid silver eyes, which he had inherited from his mother. Because of this, he often keeps them pinned to the side and out of the way with bobby pins.
Kaoru was quiet. While he often shared the same expression as his brother, it did change. He wasn’t as rude as his younger twin, and was very kind to other people, especially where their feelings were concerned. He was more social, as well, and people seemed to be attracted to him like magnets, even though he doesn’t go out of his way to make bonds with people. He’s a lot more responsible and mature, though he tends to take on too much, and never can stand up and say it for worry that he’ll let someone down. His hair was still the same blonde color that he had been born with, the same length as his brothers, but parted to the side instead of pinned back.
Rojo Kaoru’s eyes shifted to the pair when they approached and he stood up, slinging his bag over his shoulder with a small smile. “Hello, bro, sis.”
“How was school?” Kira asked softly, pushing away a few strands of hair that had fallen out of place. Kaoru was also the weaker of the twins, despite being older. He got sick easily and spent most of his childhood in and out of the hospital. She believed that was the reason behind Kaizen’s distant nature; he had been really scared that he was going to lose his brother.
“It was good. Ryoma-kun nearly got trampled today by fangirls, but thanks to Momo-chan’s quick reflexes, and Inui-senpai’s threats, the fan club retreated back to their respective classes.”
“You’ve never taken anything from that guy, have you?” Kaizen questioned blankly, his bored gaze set on the elder twin.
He quickly shook his head, causing more strands of his blonde hair to cover his eyes, which he brushed away before speaking. “Iie. Oishi-senpai and Tezuka-buchou forbade Inui-senpai from offering his juice to anyone outside the tennis club.”
“I still don’t trust him. You should have a talk with him, Kira-nee-chan.”
“I agree.”
Kaoru’s cheeks tinted pink at the overprotective nature of his siblings, but he couldn’t help the smile that broke onto his lips. “You don’t have to worry, I’ll be fine, really.”
The pair exchanged a look, but before they could say anything else, a loud ‘Hoi! Look, Echizen!’ caught their attention before Kaizen was engulfed by a red blur. He now lay sprawled on the ground with Kikumaru on top of him, arms tight around his neck and cheek rubbing against his own. “Long time no see, Zen-chan!”
“You’re heavy,” he managed out in a bored voice, despite the fact that the wind had been knocked out of him.
“Eiji!” Oishi came rushing over, a panicked look on his face as he ushered the third year off. “Are you okay, Kaizen-kun?”
The red-head nodded, accepting the offered hand.
“You don’t do that to Kaoru too, do you?” Kira questioned, glancing at the boy beside her who had paused in dusting his uniform off. He wanted to know the answer, as well.
“He tries,” Oishi shook his head with a sigh, one hand on his hip. He really was the mother hen of the team. “But Kaoru-kun’s reflexes are pretty impressive. He usually misses and lands on Echizen…”
The elder Rojo locked eyes with the blonde as if to confirm the tale and he promptly nodded, letting her know that it was okay. Even though Kaoru had been with these guys for a year already, she wasn’t ready to trust them just yet, not with her fragile baby brother. And she knew Kaizen felt the same way.
Kikumaru edged his way closer to the blonde, poking his side with a wide grin.
Kaoru took the hint and turned to his big sister, his hands twisting the strap of his bag, a sure sign that he was nervous. “Um… nee-chan?”
“Hmm?”
“Well, Seigaku has a tournament coming up – ”
“The regional tournament!” Momo added in, excitedly.
“ – And I was wondering if, maybe, I could go?”
Kira and Kaizen exchanged another look. “When is it?”
“In a couple of days,” Oishi responded, offering them a small smile. “If you agree, we promise to look after your brother.”
“What do you think?” Kira asked the red-headed twin, who simply shrugged in reply.
“Your call.”
Kira adapted a blank look as she surveyed the blonde. She could tell with one look that he really wanted to go, but he wouldn’t argue if she told him no – that was Kaizen’s job, not his. “Alright. But we’ll be going, as well.”
“Thank you, nee-chan!” Kaoru smiled greatly, wrapping his thin arms around her waist. She returned the hug, patting the top of his head.
“Well, if you’ll excuse us. Ryuuka-san is probably waiting for us by now.” Kira nodded to the group before turning and heading toward the entrance – or in this case, the exit. Kaizen said nothing, turning around to follow the older Rojo, while Kaoru bid his goodbyes before running after the pair.

For the OC ask, #2 for Nate, #5 for Niner, #8 for Aidan, #10 for Q, #13 for Ash, #15, #31 for Lauren, and #42 & 59 for Ian, please! Thank you! :)
2. Describe Nate’s personality in three words
Private. Nate doesn’t talk much when he first meets people, and even after he gets to know them a little better, he doesn’t like to talk about his thoughts, feelings, or opinions. He’ll talk for hours about logical, technical things that can be measured and compared and known, but try even brushing next to a topic that he feels strongly about and watch him clam up.
Avoidant. Nate has never liked being open about his feelings or facing things head-on. What he can’t evade, he ignores. Being a ghost makes it easier to avoid things, but it also means there’s more things he wants to avoid.
Reluctant. One of the most central traits of Nate, to me, is this idea of lingering. He hates letting go of things, be it a treasured possession, a learned habit, or a sense of injury over a wrong done. The past is not always happier, but it’s familiar and comfortable. Becoming a ghost made this more apparent, and probably stronger, but he’s always been one to look back over his shoulder more than forward.
5. Does Niner have any allergies?
No.
8. Does Aidan like books? If so, how often does he read?
Aidan loves the concept of books, something that can take you places or show you things even if you never leave your house. A way of communicating with people who live hundreds of miles or years away from you. Preserving thoughts and information in a form that will outlast you. Something that shows the world that you existed, left a mark.
In practice, Aidan doesn’t read often. He’s not comfortable being on his own for long, and sitting motionless in one spot makes him antsy. There are days, when it’s especially damp and rainy, where his energy burns up faster than usual and he slows down enough that he can stand to sit down and read.
10. Two or more other fictional characters Q is similar to
I asked my sister for help for this one, and she mentioned Han Solo. More in character and role – the unattached, out-for-himself guy who falls in with people who are part of something bigger and gets dragged in – than personality, but i can’t deny the basic similarity.
There’s some similarly loose connections to be found between Q and Adam Parrish from The Raven Cycle, moreso when Q was closer to Adam’s age. Like Adam, Q came from a terrible family, attended a boarding school for super-rich kids who all had more money than he could fathom, and refused gifts from the rich people in his life – pride in Adam’s case, awareness of the strings attached in Q’s. They both ride bicycles (for a while, anyway) and despite not being inherently magical themselves get drawn into worlds of magic.
13. Who do you think could play Ash in a live-action rendition?
I had no idea, so i googled “tall male actors with bushy red beards” and now i still have no idea.
15. Which OC did not sign up for this?
Did not sign up for this:Neal, Reagan, Leah, Avery, Nate, Q, Kira, Darcy, Lauren
Totally signed up for this:Chris, Angie, Elarin, Meaghan, Ash, Amanda, Susanna
Signed up for some of this, maybe:Connie, Aidan, Niner, Ian
31. What makes Lauren happy?
Music, particularly playing it. Winning a game of chess. Watching one of her sports teams wins a game (she follows her alma mater’s football team, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Nashville Predators). A quiet moment, when she’s alone or nearly so, and nothing is aggravating her. Praise or acknowledgement. A hug from her parents, or Ian’s parents. A hug from Ian, when she’s willing to accept one.
42. Where is Ian from?
Small town in … whatever area of America Tennessee is known as.
49. Which Marvel or DC hero/supervillain would Ian be?
The Flash. Whenever someone starts hounding him about something he’s supposed to be doing, he could get it done in a flash (pun intended) and go back to whatever it was he was doing before. Also, ideal for getting out of uncomfortable situations quickly.
Thanks for asking!

11, 14 & 17? ^.^
asks for fanfic writers.
I did 17 over here, but!
11. do you listen to music when writing?
Sometimes, yes! It sort of depends on what I’m writing and what kind of mood I’m in, but I pretty much always listen to something. It’s more just a matter of whether I’m going to listen to music or TV/movies.
And then in each case, there’s the issue of like, “do I want to listen to the Twilight Princess OST or the Silent Hill 2 OST?” (because video game OSTs are great at both evoking mood and increasing focus), or, “do I want a video game OST, or my playlist for [character, ship, project, the mood I’m in, whatever; I have playlists for everything]”
—or if I’m going to listen to TV/movies, then it’s like, “TV or movies?” and then, “Disney movie or superhero movie? Marvel movie or DC movie? Pink Flamingos, Hairspray, or Female Trouble? The Prince of Egypt or Crimson Peak? Star Wars” or in TV Land, it’s more, “Well, I can’t work and listen to something relatively new [which is one of the biggest reasons why I’m perpetually late to everything new on TV], so… House or Criminal Minds? Yuri on Ice dub [because I can’t watch the subs and write at the same time] or SVU reruns? Firefly or Futurama?”
14. easiest character to write
Oh gosh, that’s…… hard. And it often depends on the fandom, and sometimes it depends on what kind of mood I’m in, but…
Barty Crouch Jr. has always been really easy for me (partly because he has Favorite advantage, and partly because I’ve put 16+ years into his character at this point, so like. JKR could drop all of her notes about his family and backstory and everything on us tomorrow — not that I really think said notes exist, but if they did — and I’d probably just go, “Yeah, that’s nice, but with all due respect, Mum? My version’s better, and I’m just going to continue treating it as if it’s canon because bite me, that’s why”).
AlSev Potter and Scorpius Malfoy are both really easy, too, but tbh, I think that’s because my versions of them are essentially glorified OC’s, since my attitude toward Cursed Child with regard to characterization is, “*nods mildly* That’s nice, but I’m going to pick and choose at my leisure, thanks. No offense, but I’ve been working on these kids since DH first came out, and I much prefer my headcanon Scorpius who is the biggest, loudest, gayest Drama Princess you have ever met in your life and has been trying to shock Lucius into having a heart attack and dying since he was like six,
“and my headcanon AlSev who’s sometimes Ruby Minerva Severus, most often genderfluid but sometimes a binary trans girl and other time a gay cis boy, loves Ginny but has a complicated and often strained relationship with her (but in fairness, AlSev-Ruby talks to Godfather Neville and Hagrid about their problems more than they talk to either Harry or Ginny), has a complicated relationship with Harry too but for other reasons and when Harry and Ginny eventually divorce each other, AlSev-Ruby is going to stay at their Dad’s more often than their Mum’s, and never lets anyone forget that their middle name is Severus because AlSev-Ruby likes pissing them off with that fact — especially their Weasley grandparents
“Ron but AlSev-Ruby usually feels bad about this because they know on some level that they’re usually lashing out at Ron unfairly because it’s not about their name in most of these scenarios and entirely about other emotions that AlSev-Ruby has no earthly idea how to handle or express in a healthy or constructive way, and they boil over very easily when people needle them about their name (and if it weren’t Ron on the receiving end of this, it would probably be James)
“and Snape’s portrait, whom AlSev-Ruby accidentally made respect them by going, ‘You’re a painting. You are oil on canvas, magically imbued with the real Severus Snape’s personality and memories. Snap at me all you want, but you can’t do anything to me that’s worse than what Rita Skeeter and Molly have been doing for my entire life so far. If you want to get to know me, instead of using me as some conduit for all of your lingering issues with my Dad, then cool, I’d like to get to know you, too. You’re the closest I can get to getting to know my real middle-namesake instead of the myth of him that’s been built up since the War. But if you’ve got nothing interesting to say, then please shut up and let me wait for the Headmistress in peace’ in their first year, if not as eloquently because they were eleven and being Sulky™”
As much as I still hate being compared to her, even accepting that I totally deserve it, Hermione Granger is another easy one for me to get into and always has been. The hard thing with her is not reducing her to either Perfectly Perfect Hermione (which JKR can even fall into some times, like when Hermione hexed the DA sign-up sheet and it scarred Marietta’s face without regard for how Umbridge is the one to blame in that situation and not Marietta) or some joke about some of the times in canon when she was Over The Top about something, in ways that Harry didn’t entirely get so the narrative treats them as Totally Hilarious, even though SPEW (for example) is actually not funny when held up to scrutiny and Hermione works so hard at school out of deep-set fear of failure and being dispensable, and probably also fear that maybe she doesn’t belong in the magical world
Luna Lovegood is also pretty easy for me, though the hard thing with her is trying to make sure that I write her thought processes honestly but in a way that makes sense for the reader (it’s a variation on the big problem of stream of consciousness writing, where writing actual facts stream of consciousness looks like Finnegan’s Wake and is tedious as fuck to read, so Luna has to be close to stream of consciousness but tamed enough so that the experience of reading anything written from her POV is more likely to be enjoyable, and less likely to be like getting hit upside the head with a tire iron labeled, “IT’S ART OKAY, IT’S NOT FOR YOU”).
Then, Remus Lupin is by far the easiest of the Marauders for me to write, and Andromeda Black Tonks can actually be pretty hard for me sometimes, but she’s easier than either of her sisters and still one of the easiest MWPP-era characters for me, period.
And as far as non-HP characters go: well, my other biggest source of fandom writing in the past while has been Teen Wolf, and the top five easiest kids for me there are Scott McCall (to the surprise of no one ever), Kira Yukimura (#still bitter),
“Camden Lahey (but lbr, he’s pretty much just an OC with a canon name because literally all we know about him in canon is, “Isaac’s older brother, on the 2005/6 swim team, died in the military” so the rest of it is shit that I wholesale made up and of course he’s easier for me to get into character with than, say, Allison — who is probably the third easiest of the ladies for me to get into character with, after either Braeden or Malia but it depends on the day — because Allison has, like, actual canon shit to deal with and Cam…… kinda doesn’t.
Like, all of the vaguely Actual Canon shit that he has to deal with is stuff that’s off in the realm of extrapolation, interpretation, and, “Hey, nothing in canon says that he DIDN’T visit Derek and Laura in New York on his way back from his first visit home during his service, or that he DIDN’T drag Derek uptown to see Patti Lupone as Mama Rose because Cam is a Fanboy for reasons relating to his and Isaac’s late Mother, or that they didn’t argue at the intermission about how IT’S A MUSICAL DEREK STOP TRYING TO QUESTION WHY THE CHARACTERS SING JFC IT’S LIKE I DON’T EVEN KNOW YOU”
or, “lbr, Derek is as subtle as a brick hitting you in the face at 5,000 mph and Paige canonically figured out that he was a werewolf anyway, so I don’t think it’s entirely implausible that, if we accept the idea of him and Cam being friends — and Cam being one of the only people who, like, genuinely likes Derek, instead of tolerating him because he’s okay at basketball and his family is rich — then Cam probably figured out that Derek and Laura are werewolves, and if that’s the case, he probably got trotted over to the Hales’ place so Talia could give him third-degree about whether or not he’s with the Argents or any other hunters.
“And, because he was like fifteen and had literally just found out that supernatural shit is real, Cam probably showed that he wasn’t a hunter by getting way too excited about hearing which magical creatures are real and temporarily shelving his hate-on for Talia to be all, ‘oh my god, are vampires real? can they infect werewolves? could Derek be like, a vampire werewolf, how would that even work’ or, ‘so silver bullets don’t hurt you, but what about someone saying your True Name? is True Name magic real?’ or, ‘do seances actually work? I’m totally not asking because I want to try and perform one to contact my dead Mom, I just want to know, like. For curiosity’s sake. Yeah……’”
[spoilers: Cam was TOTALLY asking because he wanted to try and use a seance to contact Eleanor. Derek and Laura had to stop him from trying to do the thing no fewer than eight times before Cam and Derek graduated. To his credit, Derek at least skipped trying to give Cam any kind of lecture, but tbf, he did that because he knew Cam would argue back at him about how Derek had no right to tell Cam that he was doing something stupid and dangerous and playing with things that he didn’t understand, and that Cam’s argument would probably be more than fair.
This did not stop Laura from giving Cam the lectures that he completely deserved, though, because: 1. he was essentially walking up to a big red button labeled, “do not push” and trying to push it without even reading the owner’s manual or the informational plaque on the wall that had a full explanation of why you shouldn’t push the button, and he KNEW that he was doing this, but he felt like it was all going to work out TOTALLY FINE because he wanted his Mom to be not dead and in lieu of that, why can’t he have a seance, Laura, UGH;
and 2. because, unlike Cam and Derek, Larua generally doesn’t do shit that’s too horribly stupid or that has completely awful consequences (…mostly), so she had an actual high-ground from which to give Cam these, “don’t screw around the magic, what the fuck are you thinking” lectures and wasn’t intimidated by Derek’s loudmouth little friend who, like, actively repels everything that even vaguely resembles chill.]
—so, anyway, the point is that I can pretty much do whatever I want with Cam and it makes him a lot easier to write. Laura is a similar case of, “this character is easy for me to write because I made her up,” and in fairness, a lot of my characterization for Braeden is headcanon, too. It’s just headcanon that has more of a basis in canon than Camden and Laura do.
I mean.
Except for parts like Braeden’s twin sister Belladonna who is a ballerina because fuck Jeff Davis, that’s why and also the only family member Braeden still talks to on any regular basis, and their parents who teach at Miskatonic University because I’m pretty sure it’s in the public domain at this point so nyeh, I’m gonna use it, and also they’re in the know about the supernatural but part of a group who has a policy of strict non-intervention, which Braeden thought was bullshit so she set out to do her own thing, which initially involved more plans to help people…… but then she learned that a girl’s gotta eat, and the mercenary work got started.
Also, she will wipe the floor with you at karaoke. Because I felt like it, that’s why.
Yeah, that’s all pretty, “this is not even remotely implied by canon and I wholesale made it up because canon wasn’t giving me like any damn Braeden backstory beyond the barest implications and I fucking felt like it, so there. PS: fuck Jeff Davis.”)
Derek Hale (I’m not always proud of this fact or entirely thrilled about it because when I get into Derek’s head, I take a lot of things from his canon characterization — especially in earlier episodes, before he started trying to be less of a jerk and discovered that: 1. he sucks as an Alpha, and 2. he loves Scott sooooo much — to their logical conclusions and his head is usually not a very pleasant place to be.
Like, he’s my werewolf disaster and I begrudgingly love him but we’re still talking about a guy who, when I write him, makes leaps of logic like, “Well, Cam said to look out for Isaac because he’s not here to do it himself. That is totally the same thing as giving me verbal permission to stalk his baby brother and manipulate him into accepting the Bite, very good plan, way to go, Derek!! :D” and thinks that, “Scott kissed ME first and didn’t explicitly SAY that he’s NOT 17, therefore I’m totally not obligated to ask him shit about shit or consider whether or not he’s having sex with me as a form of emotional self-harm” is a completely valid conclusion and way of doing things
He’s also a guy who would do things like cheat on Braeden with Cam and Cam with Braeden, while telling neither of them about this, and then when he gets arrested for doing something ridiculous, he would call both of them to come get him at the Sheriff’s station because he’s pretty sure that one of them will be mad and decide to just leave him there to think about what he’s done this time — which would end up in both of them coming, and figuring out that they’ve both been getting cheated on, and skip right past the, “being mad at the other cheated upon party” part to the part that’s more like,
“going for coffee and complaining about the fuck-up they’ve both been dating and making fun of things like his secret One Direction blog, or the Star Wars fanfic he writes where his blatant self-insert OC gets to bang Han, Leia, Mara Jade, Lando, both of the Solo twins, and Padmé (in some wonky shenanigans involving time travel) — oh and sucks for Derek, but Cam and Braeden decided to tell Parrish to just leave him in his holding cell because fuck him, they’ve been getting cheated on so he can just call Laura and beg her to come save his ass tonight”
negl, one of my favorite places to put Derek in non-supernatural AUs is prison. How he wound up there usually involved him killing Peter, and it sometimes involved him panicking and hiding Peter’s body under the floorboards because he’s a loser who thinks Edgar Allan Poe is actually a good model for How To Handle Murdering Someone, and…… yeah, I just. I love Derek, he’s easy for me to write, but he’s a disaster in ways I don’t always feel like dealing with, so sometimes, he gets to just go the fuck to prison so I don’t have to deal with him today.)
and……… ugh, I can’t pick between Danny Mahealani and Jackson Whittemore for the number five spot, but both of them are really easy for me, and like. Jackson, I am still vaguely ashamed of, but I don’t feel that bad about it because I got here by virtue of writing him when Astrid and I RP’d TW stuff together and she didn’t want to just talk to herself for ages by writing Isaac and Jackson, and I refused to half-ass it with Jackson and found a way into his head and here we are.
And Danny as I write him is, in a lot of ways, only somewhat less of an OC than Cam and Laura, so…… basically, that.
And bonuses, because I like talking about my legitimate OC’s, oops: Margot, Pete, and Sebastian are the easiest for me to write at the moment but in fairness, that’s largely because I’ve done the most work developing them as characters, relative to everyone else in the cast.
Like, Todd (who is officially Seb’s “it’s complicated,” and Seb’s Gawain Stacy, if you ask Pete — or sometimes even if you don’t ask Pete, because he will totally tell you this whether you like hearing it or not, especially if your name is Sebastian) — Todd has this notion that he, Margot, and Seb are basically gay boy!Hermione (Todd), lesbian!Harry (Margot), and, “Ron but like what if his family had Malfoy money and he was gay” (Seb). He’s not entirely wrong (and their Houses map onto the Trio’s secondary Houses because of course I know my OCs’ Hogwarts Houses, like why would I not know that)
(This whole Thing of Todd’s actually STARTED because I knew that he is a Ravenclaw, Seb’s a Hufflepuff, and Margot’s a Slytherin, and went, “lol, it’s like the Golden Trio in an AU where none of them wound up in Gryffindor, heh”)
and it makes sense that this is how Todd sees things with them because the three of them found each other in undergrad (though Seb found Margot when their RA paired them up for some “getting to know you” thing during orientation because they were the tallest and the shortest people on the hall, and he found Todd at the first meeting of the campus LGBTIQ students organization, had a crush at first sight on the cute chubby guy in the hot pink t-shirt with the screenprint of the Pink Flamingos poster, and totally meant to go be Super Cool about asking Todd out……
……buuuuuut he got excited and instead it came out like, “Hi, oh my god, I love your shirt, you like John Waters, I love John Waters, he’s my hometown hero, oh my god hi hi hi, my name’s Sebastian what is yours do you want to go get coffee, please be my friend, do you like Rocky Horror too? there’s a theatre a couple blocks from here that does a regular shadow-cast, we should totally check it out, I have just met you and I like you please be my friend” instead of like an actual date invite. And he totally called his Mom later that night to go, “MOM, I MADE ANOTHER FRIEND. TWO IN TWO DAYS, MOM. yeah no i still kind of hate my roommate he’s a jerk BUT I HAVE TWO NEW FRIENDS MOM”
………He was very lonely before undergrad because his only constant friend who wasn’t one of his siblings and didn’t shun him after he got outed at Catholic school [though technically, he sort of outed himself in an attempt to spare his boyfriend/best friend from being outed because Seb’s parents already knew he was gay and were totally cool about it, but Damian’s parents believed in reparative therapy and his uncle was the priest at their Catholic school, so him getting outed was really not an option]? Yeah, that only friend was Pete. But I digress.)
Anyway, Todd’s view of things is a little skewed by how he’s lived them, and strictly speaking, trying to map any of my kids onto the Golden Trio and Company is going to end up being a discussion of archetypes and tropes more than anything else because…… But they’re not the Golden Trio and Company.
There are some similarities, but they are mostly in the realm of archetypes AND the ones that aren’t quite as trope-y happened by accident (like, when I noticed that Seb actually does have quite a few similarities with Ron, aside from having Malfoy money — right down to his dad having an A name (Abraham) and his mom having an M name (Marceline) — I went, “well, FUCK” and started trying to get some of those similarities to be…… less so? Because…… Seb’s not Ron. And I don’t want him to be too overly similar to Ron because I want him to be himself, in his own right.
Fortunately, though, Ron isn’t a filthy rich, gay recovering addict who’s been living with undiagnosed major depression for his entire life and sort of accidentally stumbles into finding his mutant superpowers, and whose abusers aren’t his parents — because Abe and Marceline are pretty chill and have been fab to all four of their kids — but rather a series of douchebag ex-boyfriends who [unlike Molly and Arthur] are for real in-text acknowledged as being abusive jerks, and that’s a pretty solid start on Seb Is Not Ron)
But if you were going to try to do the Golden Trio And Company map here, then Todd would probably be Ginny, actually. They don’t have a lot in common, but there are some points of crossover, and the biggest one for me at the moment? Is that right now, I’m guilty of something that I bag on JKR for doing all the time, which is, “Ginny is a great idea for a character but you didn’t fully actualize her like she deserved in the text, you regularly reduced her existence to being Harry’s Significant Other, and it’s frankly bogus, Joanne” — and I’m aware of this, so I’m trying to fix it by working on Todd as a character
But I’m also trying to not spend forever fine-tuning every last detail about a story and then not having a draft of it so much as I have a two-foot stack of print-outs about different parts of it that kinda sorta look like a complete picture when you arrange them just so and tilt your head slightly to the left. So, basically, at the moment? Getting Todd to be more fully realized is on my List Of Shit To Do, but it’s way less of a priority than, “actual complete draft of this train-wreck” because I can do some of this work in revisions and rewriting
But since I opened this door anyway and want to complete the thought for the amusement factor:
Seb, obviously, is Harry in the bigger picture, even if this is mostly based on, “Harry is The Protagonist of his series, and although MY series is ultimately going to be more of an ensemble cast thing, Seb is the focal character for the first book because, in fairness to all the others, he was here first”
Todd is Ginny for the reasons that I just said
Pete and Margot both have very fair claim to being either Ron or Hermione, so they could arguably take turns, and ultimately, the big reason why I’m going to say Pete’s Ron and Margot’s Hermione?
is that Pete has two older siblings and some Issues with both of them (though he’s working them out with his sister, and not so much with his older brother) and has been Seb’s friend longer
while Margot’s an only child and they have totally used the, “we’re both gay, we love each other like brother and sister” line when they don’t feel like explaining their no romo soulmates kind of relationship to people (and sometimes when trying to make Seb’s siblings be less…… not pleased that Margot is so important to him, because to varying degrees, all three of them kinda sorta blame her for some of his problems in ways that she doesn’t entirely deserve)
Lucy is Neville but, like, a plucky ginger lesbian. This is probably one of the comparisons that looks a lot more like reaching, because on the surface, Lucy has a lot more in common with Ginny outside of their roles in the plot — but the thing is?
Even once I get Todd to be more developed, and even if he and Seb aren’t endgame (which was my original plan and I might stick to it but they have a LOT of shit to work on before they can go there so we’ll see how that goes), Todd is still going to be Ginny’s closest analogue to me because the ideas of them and their arcs are closer than anyone else’s (though in fairness, my idea of Ginny and her arc isn’t necessarily anybody else’s because JKR botched writing Ginny so much that this is almost, “room for wild mass guessing” instead of, “room for interpretation”)
Whereas…… yes. Lucy comes on strong, she’s a plucky go-getter who would probably try to fight the sun if she thought the sun was looking at her girlfriend funny, she’s a complete loudmouth and not always in ways that are conducive to anything, she’ll call you on your shit but usually without realizing that she’s saying something she needs to be hearing too, she tries too hard to do everything on her own and usually needs to experience some kind of big setback before she’ll consider accepting help with anything, and she will probably shout at someone while telling them to go calm down because they told HER to calm down.
Also, she’s the only one in my main ensemble cast who’s a legit Gryffindor, for better and for worse (Pete is a Slytherin — though in fairness, Gryffindor is his secondary House [he is aware of this, thanks to an ex of his who made him get Pottermore Sorted and was dead shocked when he wound up in Slytherin, but he has no idea what this means but he’s offended by it because Gryffindor’s colors are red and gold and no thanks, he doesn’t like how he looks in red and gold. He loves how he looks in green and silver, though] — and Josie’s a Ravenclaw)
—but a lot of how Over-The-Top Extra™ she is? that comes out of insecurity and trying to be various things that aren’t true to herself, because she deeply believes that she isn’t good enough. Granted, a big difference between her and Neville is that, while Neville spends a lot of time in the early books being terrified of his potential because he might screw up and prove right everyone who’s ever called him useless, Lucy instead tries to outrun her all of feelings of self-doubt and self-loathing instead of dealing with them, and basically plays a game of, “if I ignore them and just act like the popular idea of me — or like the me I want to be — but louder, maybe they will go away!!”
She’s going to be shocked when this catches up to her, because when she first shows up in the story, she’s of the mind that hey, she has accepted that she’s a lesbian — even if she’s only out to a small handful of people because…… uh, she’s Damian’s baby sister and their parents are still Not Really Very Safe to come out to. Their dad is probably going to die without Lucy coming out to him and she has VERY fair reasons for being afraid that he’d disown her for this — but!!! She has still accepted this!!!! Clearly it was the ONLY THING in her life that she wasn’t at peace with and now she IS so everything is going to magically be ALL BETTER NOW RIGHT!!!!!
No, not really, Lucy. Your sexuality is just one of the things about yourself that you aren’t at peace with.
Lucy’s response: *throws herself even harder into trying to outrun her self-doubt and being completely disingenuous to herself in the process, while trying to smile and laugh like nothing is wrong even though it really blatantly is*
So, that’s all going over about as well as you’d expect (i.e., not very well, not even a little bit whoops), and a lot of her arc in the series is going to be about finding peace with herself and finding her own ways of being a hero that may not necessarily line up with any more conventional expectations thereof, or even her own preconceived ideas of How To Hero Good, and yeah. She’s Neville, but like, a plucky ginger lesbian.
Also, she and Seb are foils for each other in a loooooot of ways that make them mapping onto Harry and Neville make more sense than trying to make Lucy map onto Ginny, in structural terms
Josie is Luna, and I’m short-changing my genderfluid empath child a lot right now but I’ve also been writing this post for WAAAAAY longer than I intended and ahahaha, everyone’s probably bored
And Conrad is Draco Malfoy, but absent any of the excuses that fans love making for Draco (especially not the age thing, like. Draco behaves in a LOT of ways that are completely unacceptable for any person of ANY age, but I will acquiesce that his age is a contributing factor in some instances because he’s a freaking CHILD. Conrad’s not, though. Like, Conrad is 46 and the oldest member of the main cast in the first book. Conrad gets no excuse for his bullshit based on his age.
He also doesn’t get to claim anything about being terrified for the safety of the people he cares about, because…… uh. While I think that the HP fandom oversells that point re: Draco in HBP because at first, he was completely gung-ho and proud of himself for joining a group of Pureblood supremacist domestic terrorist fascists, Draco was still abused and manipulated by Voldemort here — and during the entirety of HBP and DH — and…… well. Conrad was lied to and played by people who are even bigger douchebags than he is, yeah. But he wasn’t sold on joining the neo-fascist supervillains by having his loved ones threatened; he was sold on it by having his ego stroked and only giving a fuck about how this could benefit him)
So, basically, Conrad is Draco with even fewer redeeming qualities
Given that I think Draco only has, like, TWO redeeming qualities, or maybe three on a good day (and that’s debatable because at least one point here is, “it’s not really a quality of his own so much as the fact that I hate victim blaming more than I dislike Draco”), uh
Yeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaah, no.
Conrad is only not The Literal WORST EVER because there are other douchebags in his neo-fascist supervillain club who are even worse than he is.
