BBC Verify ‘verifies’ the Iranian missile strike

On Tuesday evening, 1 October 2024, Iran fired approximately 180 ballistic missiles at Israel. Many were intercepted, but several sites were hit. On Wednesday evening BBC Verify published a 1 minute 20 second video – titled ‘where Iran’s missiles struck in Israel’.

The BBC Verify team tells us they have been looking at ‘where Iran’s missiles have landed’ and the video is to counter ‘a lot of false imagery’ being circulated online. They say they managed to verify strikes in the vicinity of three key locations – all of them military sites:

This creates an immediate problem. Why only these three? For example, a verified strike by Ramat Gan shopping mall has not been included. The BBC had reported on this – and so were well aware of it – but for some reason, BBC Verify left the shopping mall strike out of their analysis.

It is difficult to escape the conclusion that BBC Verify were deliberately pushing a pro-Iranian propaganda line that the missiles were fired only at military targets.

But it gets a lot, lot worse.

I made this post already but there is a lot going on in World War Z (the book) that is so...

Former Mossad official: Children in Gaza over the age of 4 deserve to be starved

Israel’s genocidal moral depravity keeps plunging into new depths. On Tuesday, Israel’s Kan public broadcaster ran a news program for “the 130th day of the war” hosted by the veteran Ayala Hasson. During the program, she interviewed former Mossad official Rami Igra, who had been head of the spy and assassination agency’s “Captive & Missing Division.”  Igra echoed President Isaac Herzog’s claim that there are “no uninvolved [civilians] in Gaza.” Igra emphasizes the point by saying “There is no such thing,” as Hasson disrupts him in agreement with an affirming “You’re right, you’re right.” Igra then goes on to specify this genocidal axiom in a bizarre manner, exempting children below age four: “In Gaza, everyone is involved. Everyone voted Hamas. Anyone over the age of four is a Hamas supporter. And our goal at the moment, and this is in continuation of what you said, is to turn them from Hamas supporters to Hamas dislikers.”  This unhinged, delusional message is coupled with a supposedly “humanitarian” approach:  “And the way is supplying the humanitarian aid, through us.”  So, this enlightened colonialist is saying that if Israel, rather than UNRWA (which Israel is harassing, tarnishing, and lobbying to defund), will be the supplier, then the Palestinians will learn to love Israel!  Within the Israeli genocide machine, everyone knows that the phrase “everyone is involved” means that everyone can be killed. Everyone knows that. So Hasson finds a need to moderate the message a bit, but she first points to her general agreement with the message: “OK, so look, regarding the uninvolved, every house in Gaza is a Hamas HQ, weapons, Al Aqsa, everything, all the signs are there.”  Hasson actually gives him that. This is not in question. “Every house in Gaza.”  But now, some liberalism:  “And still, how did you say, children from the age of zero to four? Playing nice’ won’t change its paradigm. Failure does.

With the assassination of Sayed Hassan Nasrallah and a number of the Hizbullah senior leadership in Beirut – expressly without prior warning being given to the Pentagon – Netanyahu fired the start gun on an implicit Israeli widening of war to – using Israel’s term – the ‘octopus’ tentacles’: Hizbullah in Lebanon; Ansarullah in Yemen; the Syrian government and the Iraqi Hash’ad A-Shaabi forces.

Well, after the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh and part of Hizbullah’s leadership cadre (including a senior Iranian general), Iran – demonised as the ‘octopus head’ – entered the conflict with a volley of missiles that targeted airfields, military bases and the Mossad HQ – but intentionally caused no deaths.

Israel thus made the U.S. (and most of Europe) partners or accomplices to a war now definitively cast as neo-imperialism versus the whole of the non-West. Palestinians – the global icons of the aspiration for national liberation – were to be annihilated from historic Palestine.

Further, the bombing in Beirut, and Iran’s riposte to it, now ranges Israel backed and materially supported by the U.S. vs Iran, backed and materially supported by Russia. Israel, the military correspondent of Yedioth Ahronoth warns, ‘must go crazy and strike Iran – because striking Iran “will end the current war”’.

Plainly, it marks the end to ‘playing nice’ – of incrementally escalating, one calculated step after another – as if playing chess with an opponent who calculates similarly. Both now threaten to take a hammer to the chess board. ‘Chess is over’.

It seems that Moscow too, understands that ‘chess’ simply cannot be played when the opponent is no ‘adult’, but a reckless sociopath ready to sweep away the board – to gamble all on an ephemeral ‘great victory’ move.

Looked at dispassionately, either the Israelis are inviting their own demise by over-extending across seven fronts. Or their hope lies with invoking the threat of their demise as the means to bring in the United States. As with Zelensky in Ukraine, there is ‘no hope’ unless the U.S. adds its fire-power decisively – both Netanyahu and Zelensky assume.
