“Fier. What’s your favorite flower?”
Of all the responses he had expected, that was not one of them, and Fier raised his hands from his eyes, shot a puzzled frown at Petra’s silhouette. As promised, Petra was not looking at him and spoke instead to the ceiling.
When Fier said nothing, Petra continued, his voice just as soft as before. “I think people pick their favorite flowers for how they look or how they smell or how easy they are to take care of. Some people only want to look at them, some people want to plant them, and some people want to trim them and take them home. People love differently, for different reasons and in different ways. You don’t have to want flowers in the same way other people want them. There’s nothing wrong with you, Fier. You know that, don’t you? There’s nothing wrong with you.”

There's so many good quotes in this book but this was the 1st that just completely broke me lmaoo.
#deacf talks#i have so many thoughts abt this book but ill just boil it down to: plz read it😭😭#its so short and sweet and well written#But omg#so I've been wanting to read this book for fucking years but my library never any copies of it until recently and AAAA.#its soooo fucking good#but omg just like??? fier being coded as autistic and the 'beast' within the castle being#like the physical manifestation of his ptsd from ppl invalidating his identity as ace and his personal boundaries????#and petra also being coded as autistic??? AND ALSO BEING ACE?? and also also being a genuinely kind and loving person who respects fierr#s boundaries??? AND a gardener???#has me going absolutely feral#the funny thing is i was immediately on board with the 'oh fier is autistic and doesnt like being touched. based'#but then it took that already 'non mainstream'approach to a mc and conflict And added sm depth to it#by explaining that his touch aversion came from trauma and how both being neurodivergent and asexual was used against him as a child#AND THEN having a character with similar traits (nd and ace) and having him immediately understand and respect those boundaries??? and then#have them both love each other unconditionally completely disregarding the things abt the other that society had made them ashamed of#really got to me ok🥺😭😭#more than enough#more than enough by elizabeth wambheim#fier is just like me fr tho lmao. i hate being touched in certain places by certain ppl#also a lot of his mannerisms reminded me of me and that kind of freaked me out a bit lmaooo#autistic coded characters need to stop being so relatable or im gonna have to get some kind of testing done lmaooo#but go read the book!!!

This looks fun so why not
Last song:
Yea I’m still here—funnily enough (not sure if that’s a real word but we rolling with it) this track never made it into the show, was supposed to be during the time slipping montage in 2x6 but was replaced by A Fifth Of Beethoven. Both bops tho and that’s what we have soundtrack albums for right?
Currently reading:
Just finished a beautiful short novel called Of The Wild by Elizabeth Wambheim, it’s a heartwarming story about a wild forest-creature that takes care of strange (in a magical sense) and abandoned children so they feel loved and wanted. The main character is asexual and has a m/m romance with the other main character (a trans man!)
The author is ace and writes such lovely ace m/m stories, not exaggerating when I say they’re the sweetest and most comforting books I’ve ever read. She has another book called More Than Enough that’s inspired by beauty and the beast, I’ve annoyed everyone I know about how much I love these books and now it’s yalls turn so.
Currently watching:
Sporadically rewatching Loki whenever the fancy strikes (which is often), also slowly been going through Stargate SG-1 (as recommended by a friend who knows I’m a huge Star Trek nerd lol)
Current obsession:
Uh yea. Still Lokius. So.

I just finished “More Than Enough” by Elizabeth Wambheim and I cannot stress enough how wonderful and important this book is???
• A retelling of “Beauty and the Beast”
• Same-sex relationship
• Sex-repulsed Asexual representation and validation
• A main character with very obvious vitiligo/birthmarks who is seen as handsome and loved as they are and not in spite of it
• Relatable main characters with relatable experiences
• A story where you actually see the characters slowly fall in love and not just realise it out of the blue
Why on Earth is no one talking about this book??? It made feel so emotional and validated??? And it’s only 230 pages??? Oh my god???

I posted this review for More than Enough on Amazon for this book and I JUST found out that the author has a tumblr so I figured I’d repost it here and tag them so they see it! Everyone should read this book, ace and non-ace alike!
Oh. My. God. This book. I bought the paperback version of this book and put it on my shelf because I loved it that much. But, originally, because I couldn't wait any longer, I caved and bought the Kindle version and started reading it as soon as it was in my Mac's library. When I read it and after the book was over (it took me about 6 hours to read in total, give or take) I found myself crying, a lot, and like the main characters in this retelling, I let out a breath I didn't even know I was holding. I myself am asexual and this book was an incredibly emotional read for me because for the first time ever I finally felt seen. I am Fier. I have been Fier. I am still Fier. Fier is me. To finally see what I was going through and who I am being put so eloquently into words was something indescribable--it felt like a mixture of relief, a little bit of pain and sadness from remembering a recent experience dealing with my sexuality, validation, and longing for someone as loving, kind, and understanding as Petra. I do not know if the author of this book will see this review but if they do, thank you @ajumbleofpages for writing this, thank you for the visibility, thank you for the representation, it means way more to me than you know. I will not only recommend this book to everyone I know, I will treasure it forever. If you are ace and even if you aren't ace, I highly encourage you and urge you to read this book. It is beautifully written: the language Elizabeth Wambheim employs throughout the tale is incredibly expressive and all in all the book is a work of linguistic art. You will not regret it if you pick it up. Buy the book in digital or paperback format here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1976225418/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Underrated & Under-reviewed LGBT+ Book Recommendations
To read for Pride all year long.
Tumblr media
I see a lot of LGBT+ book rec pots going around because of pride but they rarely feature any of the obscure books that actually need to be found and read and supported to help new LGBT+ manuscripts break into the literary world.

July book: More than Enough by Elizabeth Wambheim, a little beauty and the beast story ace-style. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/36327532-more-than-enough
Most believe the vanished Prince Fier to be dead, but some say they can see him as he skulks, more beast than man, past the darkened windows of his abandoned country manor. Petra, the manor's gardener, is interested more in trees and flowers than rumors. In his three years as the building's sole caretaker, he has not once encountered the missing prince. Surely Fier is dead and gone. But Fier isn't dead, and neither is he a monster. He's trapped in the gilded cage of his country home, alone and afraid. There is a beast, but it's not Fier.

Honorable mention runner-up for favorite this month! Gay ace retelling of Beauty and the Beast.
Guys, it was so perfect, I almost cried. I didn’t really realize how badly I wanted to see an ace romance done well until it was in my hands.

“-he had found refuge in imagining a lover who would catch him up in a bearlike hug and promise instead, “This is enough. This is more than enough, and I love you for you, and I want you happy.” He had imagined, in every iteration, ricocheting joy and tears and a relief so strong he could not breathe. He had not once imagined understanding given so casually, with so little fanfare -”

No one believed me when I said I didn’t want to be touched like that. ‘You’ll change your mind eventually, Fier,’ and ‘You don’t have to lie to us, Fier,’ and ‘Don’t be so stubborn, Fier.’ And it was so bad. It was so bad.

But all of them had grown up in a way I hadn’t. All of them wanted something I didn’t. The young men, too: when I talked with them, the conversation almost always veered toward the… the bedroom and which of our peers they would take into it, and I didn’t want that, any of it.
