Four's fortune told
Will the four horsemen fall? We have the Four Little Pigs to counter them, as indeed the Fellowship's nine are set up against the nine Ringwraiths; and we're told by P'Nang that the four cards should be given together and never separated. What happens if the cards, and thus the Piggies, are separated? P'Nang seems to have a lot riding on Joke, since she tells us he is just the kind of person that is needed to handle things 'around here'. But then Tattoo shares the cards before they can get to Joke, and Joke later tears up his card, indeed staying separated from the others in the penultimate episode. Do they have a chance to win against the reigning power?
Boss Alice wants to bring down the horsemen as well, and is pleased to be told by his sister's three-card reading that he himself will be instrumental in bringing about this end.
Tumblr media
THE WORLD - success, completion, involvement; stagnation, disappointment; major and inexorable change, end of a cycle to make room for a new one
Here we see the World even before it's connected to Tattoo, and we get the promise of one of the four falling from power. We've seen one fall already in the show. But P'Nang is behind many of the strings being gently and covertly pulled, and is certainly telling this fortune for her own ends. So, the one that will lose their power by the coming change is Boss Alice. And that change will have Tattoo in the center of it, as represented by the World; and with him the other Pigs and indeed the whole rest of the gang.
Tumblr media
THE MAGICIAN - power, action, willpower, desire; rage, greed, trickery; new beginnings, manifesting the desired outcome
Boss Alice is the Magician here, the foil to P'Nang's High Priestess. And he does indeed shift the game board when he gets the ring, but he will not get to keep it. For as the Magician is the beginning of the cycle of the Fool's Journey in tarot, the World is the ending of it. So toppling Boss Alice from power is the key to shifting power and beginning a new cycle. (But where is it going to shift to?)
Tumblr media
THE EMPEROR - structure, authority, regulation, stability; abuse of power, rigidity; father figure, logic over emotion
Tumblr media
Now we get to the rings. As has been the case for every other significant object in the show, the rings are game pieces. The horsemen have created this callous game where pointless objects give power to the wielder. As we've been told from the beginning, everything is a game, everyone is playing (whether forced or voluntary), and at the same time everyone is a game piece. I think this is what P'Nang sees clearly. She seems to have a wide and comprehensive view of the playing field, and can pull strings to move the pieces - or rather, to encourage the pieces to move on their own. And as she is moving opposite the Magician, we can assume that her goal also opposes his attempts to wield corrupt power and uphold the structure enforcing it.
So, she is telling Boss Alice what he needs to hear to be set in motion, but also cleverly alluding to what is actually going to happen. The rings give the power, so one must either possess a ring to wield the power inside the game, or destroy the rings altogether, thus destroying the game and the power its rules give to the Ringwraiths four horsemen. Where's the Tower when you need it?
---
Now, just to play with the thought: what if this is a prediction as well?
Tumblr media
This whole situation stands out, since so far P'Nang has not outright participated in the games; but here she is, taking an active role as a host for Rosé's game. Is this merely to help Rosé? Or is she doing this to make sure the competition goes as it should, to a divine plan that she considers herself an instrument of? For example, if Tattoo's (truly very clever) creation were to win this competition, he might not be desperate enough to take part in whatever is coming in ep 12; and if indeed he is the World changing the balance and connecting everyone, then he will need the desperation to fuel it. (P'Nang really does her very best to discourage Tattoo in this scene, although we are shown that Aran is the most discouraged and disillusioned by this. I reeaally want to know whether he knows they are related.)
Tumblr media
Straight after PNang's comment (search the heavens to free people from debt), we cut to this funky little wannabe-deity in his angel-decorated castle, and to the game of Ladders to Heaven. Now, in this scene we get trouble, obviously. But in the last ep, will Lompran end up being the 'heavens that free people from debt'? He's already helped Save, for the low low price of getting Jack to be his dog. (I mean, Save does offer up his life as well, but Lompran is all about Jack here.)
Welp, we'll soon see whether he ends up having anything to do with it.
---
Lastly, I'd like to point this out, just for my own amusement:
Tumblr media
This was Alice's plan to integrate himself into the circle of power, to have a son marry in. Now, if we consider the World as the change card, the winning card, then what if. What if Tattoo has the ring in the end? And Aran will most certainly be marrying Tattoo, thank you very much, either officially or in all the ways that matter to the two of them. Even if he has to be the one to ask (or rather to say "ooi!", and stomp his foot, and pout).
So, if Alice thought big, he would've foreseen this - nay, prophesied it! - and could've enjoyed his scheme coming true with no need to hunt for new sons. Now he'll just have to enjoy it in prison, eh. Hope he'll have a rag to bite into about it!

I've managed to get all of my fibrecrafts stuff into one (admittedly very large) box and I'm like tempted to post a pic of it all cause it looks fun but I'm also genuinely kind of embarrassed by the dragon hoard of fibre I've amassed god

Might fuck around and make this waistcoat from LACMA's Pattern Project
Tumblr media
18th century style men's waistcoats are my costuming white whale -- or at least the earlier 18th century styles with a more flared/skirted silhouette, rather than ending around the natural waist. I'm sure it'll be a pain but I've got some fabrics to stashbust.

Me: stashbusting is going great! I'm using up the fabric I have instead of buying more!
Friend: Hey [store] has fat quarters on sale.
Me: Mmhmm
Friend: they're 50 cents each

Did some more stashbusting and knitted matching arm- and wristwarmers to my pair of felted house shoes
I used 2 skeins (100m) of blue and 1 (50???) of grey felting wool on 4.5 mm dp needles.
44 st cast on, 2k 2p in the round for 29 rounds, then 11 rounds stockinette stitch colourwork with the snowflake pattern i drew up on a piece of math paper. 10 rows of 1k 1p ribbing, turning the work each row for the hand part, then going on for 6 more in the round an bind off.
I had enough blue left to add thumb gussets - picked up 4 stitches in the thumb hole, knit 1 row, purl on the back, picked up 1 stitch from the grey on beginning and end of each knit thumb row and pulled stitches on needle for back row. When I had 14, I bound them off and used the tail to attach the thumb more neatly to the hand bc I didn't like how it looked. Still had about 2m of yarn left, so divided it equally and added 1 row of single crochet to the top of the hand.
The warmers are, as intended, very warm and the colourwork wrists fit very snuggly without being too tight. Immediate alleviation of my chronic joint pain ensued, so I am more than happy 😊
However, I plucked quite a lot of vegetation out of the yarn while knitting, so I think I'll rather wear them over thin long-sleeved clothes because the grass residue is poking me a little.

the goal for this week is to make some serious progress on my new stashbuster project!! i got the petticoat done this weekend, which checks off the last of the under structure for my plan, so maybe i can actually start….sewing the outside together??? which unfortunately, despite this being a “use what you already have!!!” sort of project, means i need to probably venture to a real store and get more chiffon because what i have only gets us part way there. :/
i have the whole week off, so the plan is to split some time between prepping this cosplay for katsucon and doing some staycationy activities, which in central florida will include visiting theme parks to see my friend display her work at the festival of the arts currently happening there.

This stashbusting WIP is working up nicely, I've been happy with the progress I've made considering it's difficult for me to see anything through. It's easier when there's a practical reason, like needing more space in my home. So this is partly a method of cleanup that's a lot more fun and unobtrusive than, say, vacuuming.
Since the squares are joined as they're worked along, there came a point when this stashbuster was too unwieldly to carry in my bag and attend to whenever I had to wait for a long time away from home. I'm considering making more panels of mitered squares joined together to be sewn to the main pieces afterwards as a solution. The joy of taking my hobby with me outweighs my personal distaste for manually sewing numerous parts all together.
In an odd way, it's reassuring how I've had the opportunity to keep working with yarn. It's one of the few things that I can reliably do when I'm too tired for other creative outlets. And it's also the least scary math I've ever had to do.
Which brings me to some things I'd like to try out this year. I'd like to make a sweater from the yoke downwards, learn brioche knitting more effectively, make a pair of mittens, and a few other things to be kept under wraps for now.
