(nature au) you said that while dale dislikes dev using a cane in the house he doesn’t really care too much, but what if dev used a cane in public? i can’t imagine dale would be okay with that at all. he’d be pissed, like confiscate the cane kind of pissed
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Originally the gag here was just going to be Dev clinging onto his dads arm for dear life while he shivers like a chihuahua but he is just. So small.. I couldnt get it to look reasonable
Bonus:

#The horror of putting Dev in a situation where he would 100% be wearing his sunglasses#Like NOOO the perfectly construction expression of horror I was going to give him#fop nature au#fop#fairly oddparents#fop a new wish#fairly oddparents a new wish#fop dev#dev dimmadome#dale dimmadome#fop dale#fop peri#art#digital art#fanart#I cant tell if I got the tone right with this one#Theres a very careful balance I try to strike with comedy vs horror and Im not sure if I got it#I also try to keep a sort of balance when depicting characters that are just straight up awful#I dont like depicting characters as cartoonishly evil but I also dont want to make him seem overly sympathetic#or like he's 'deep down a good person' because he's straight up not#He's awful and selfish. What he's done to his son makes him deeply uncomfortable with himself#but that discomfort means absolutely nothing when he refuses to change or become a better person#and he does refuse to change. changing is hard#he still keeps hurting Dev at every turn and maybe to tries to justify it to himself as being for Devs own good#but regardless he is still refusing to listen to him and hurting him even more in the process#idk im rambling#I like to keep the abuse balanced out with these nothing little concessions on Dales part#tbh even this concession didnt come from the good of his heart he just wanted to avoid making a scene#also because the visual of Dale deciding CARRYING him everywhere is better than just letting him have his cane is very funny to me

I’ve always been under the impression that I dislike/stray away from horror because it’s too much for me, but like as I’ve been consuming more media and really trying to explore my interests as a writer/artist, I’ve come to the realization that I just have a really restricted definition of what horror is and most of the things I’m interested in would actually be considered horror-adjacent by most people?
Like I turned in a piece for a fiction writing workshop I was in for this past semester and when someone described my story they were like “yes this horror-ish story does blah blah blah…” and everyone nodded and agreed and I was like ??? I just thought it was a fun little story what do you mean the ending was suspenseful and scary

Okay, maybe unpopular opinion time, but I started watching DanDaDan (ADORE it so far) and some of you are starting to become the meme of "that one friend who is too woke" about what happens in the first episode
TW for sexual assault + CW light DanDaDan spoilers if you haven't watched it yet. Its gonna be a bit ranty
First of all I wanna preface this with saying that, if Momo's scene with the aliens impacted you and / or you found it triggering, that's extremely valid. I am not claiming it isn't, specially for people who have any kind of sexual trauma. What I'm gonna say is not about that
What I mean is; I think we have gotten so used to a very big number of anime using sexual assault as a "funny" gag, having characters violate other characters' physical boundaries, or having a token perverted / incestuous / p*do character, all in the name of terrible "comedy" or fanservice, that we have started bracing up for any mention or showcase of sexual assault to be treated as a gag or as a "sexy" thing; specially when it comes to female characters, because sadly they're the victims of this 99% of the time. This, without going over the sexualization of characters in general, even when mundane things are happening
It's a sentiment I understand and share. I hate all of these tropes and "jokes" and it makes me really sad when a series I otherwise like has to include something like that. I actively criticize these kinds of things no matter how big a fan I am of a work in question
However, I think because of all this, we have forgotten that media can choose to use scenarios like that as an actual Bad thing to show. A bad and unfortunate thing that happens to a character that isn't used as comedy or as fanservice
I had heard about the sexual assault scene in DanDaDan prior to watching it, and I had decided I was gonna skip that scene, as I am someone who is both disgusted by these things and has trauma related to them. However while skipping quickly through the scene I thought it didn't look as bad as I was bracing for, so I decided it was something I could stomach. I was really surprised when I saw that the scene was strictly being handled as a bad thing happening to Momo, and that it also ultimately ended up with her escaping her assaulters before anything truly scarring happens
No jokes about the situation per se, no compromising shots other than the fact that she was in her underwear - and regarding that, the fact that she was built like a normal girl, her proportions and physical features weren't presented in any objectifying or exaggerated way, and through the whole scene she was fighting against it and being uncomfortable instead of submitting to the situation or being made to blush and get flustered about it like you can Disgracefully see in many other instances of other shows
DanDaDan is ultimately a horror / paranormal series. It's not as dark as others and it seems it doesn't pretend to be, but bad things are bound to happen. I think that, as long as you do it tastefully, almost any subject can be used for those bad things. Sexual stuff is sadly EXTREMELY misused in anime, and tbh in media in general, but I don't think it has to be a taboo thing to have your characters go through as long as youre not being weird about it
Furthermore, I think it's pretty clear that, at least the parts that have been adapted of this manga so far (I am not a manga reader btw, I have only seen the 5 anime episodes that are currently out, so if the manga later proves me defending it wrong, I'm sorry, and I'd like to hear it), are in part talking about bodily autonomy
Our mcs BOTH get assaulted, but nobody online ever pays attention to Okarun losing his genitals as him also having been assaulted simply because it's presented in a more unrealistic way. His initial motivation in the series is to retrieve his genitals, and even when he seems to have gotten them back the first time, something is still wrong (another part missing) and he can't just go about his life normally again as if nothing had happened, which I think is a clear metaphor of a victim's feelings after having been assaulted; and what is more, our first arc ends with the revelation that the ghost who did that to him seems to have done it to protect the place she's bound to, a tunnel, from men, for we get told that many girls have gotten sexually assaulted, killed and dismembered in it
About Okarun, I DO get that his situation is shown in a bit of a silly light because haha penis, but I am also afraid that people would have reacted a lot more if he was a girl losing his genitals instead even if it was painted in the same light. Both Momo and Okarun got out of the situation fighting, both of them were brave and as nonchalant as they could to their assaulters, but it's only Momo's situation which gets treated as the bad one. Both get terrible things done to them ! And both of them are being shown as bad things !
None of this means you personally can't be uncomfortable with any of the mentioned scene; after all, they're portraying something horrible that happens in real life. And again, I get that in Momo's case, although unrealistic elements are involved, the situation she's put in can look closer to a real life assault, and thus, it can be more triggering. But the fact is that the sexual assault of both characters is being used to showcase a terrible thing, it's not there just for a gag or for people to put their eyes on the characters' bodies, and I personally just think it's silly when I see people lump in the situations in DanDaDan with series like Undead Unluck, when the former is portraying assault as not only a genuinely bad situation but also as part of the many points I think the first act of the series makes about bodily autonomy, and the later uses it as a reocurring "funny" gag (I have seen people say it gets better later, but still, it's still used as a gag at some point)
This is brought to you by me seeing people on Twitter compare DanDaDan's assault scene to incestuous characters from other animes like Yuri from Spy x Family, Makoto from Saiki K., and Lance from Mashle. I am a big fan of two of those three series and let me tell you: those characters can fuck themselves, I don't find haha incest jokes funny or necessary in any piece of media

Tbh my personal interpretation of the Cthulhu Mythos is as much comedy as it is cosmic horror. The horrors of existence persist but much of the "terrors too awful to perceive" are more a case of closed minded and racist unreliable narrators than anything. Do you really trust the judgement of someone who thinks penguins are grotesque and unnatural? I wouldn't. Knowledge given directly from Nyarlathotep or Yog-Sothoth? Yeah. Nyarlathotep is an extraterrestrial conman who is essentially doing the equivalent of magic tricks to confuse puppies then taking credit for human inventions retroactively ancient aliens style. Nyarlathotep is a weeaboo for Ancient Egypt. Yog-Sothoth is high off its incomprehensible ass all the time. A shoggoth is an outdoor cat. A ghoul is an off leash dog. Richard Upton Pickman is a furry. It is more cosmically silly than anything else, you understand?

HEWWO EVERYBODY my mom has tasked me with coming up with horror movies to watch in October but specifically ones that would appeal to people who aren't horror fans (like her). Sci-fi horror that leans more on the sci-fi than horror are great picks for her, as she's a huge sci-fi nerd.
So far I remember already showing her/ she's already seen:
A Quiet Place, Get out, both Happy Dead Day movies (which she enjoyed!), They Live, Alien, Aliens, John Jarpenter's That Thang (another fav of hers and like. everybody else's tbh), Re-animator (which she did NOT enjoy- a little too gross for her which i know she loves that thang but i think it's because the body horror is SO wild it looks back around to being almost removed from being a 'body'), House (the american semi-comedy one, not Hausu the japanese classic), The Ring (both versions i think?)
What I have potentially on the list:
Let the right one in, All three of the main evil dead movies (i think she'd get a kick out of them- if gore/violence is silly enough she usually is okay with it [she loves the deadpool movies for example], The Haunting 1963, Killer Clowns From Outer Space
What would be some good ones to add? What are some of your go to "horror movies for people that don't like horror" films?
(im also very open to movies that are more spooky/spoopy than actual horror movies!)

In thinking about the new information we've recently learned about the gods of Exandria, I started thinking about epic fantasy novels. The thing is, Exandria's deity lore is not actually terribly unique. This isn't a bad thing! But the idea of an idyllic age when gods were not just powerful but present and united; the fall of one (or many) gods and an ensuing devastation this causes; and the gods subsequently withdrawing or diminishing is a very, very common one in fantasy (and, to be totally honest, world religion). Similarly, the idea of a much more advanced age that has since passed into distant memory is also an extremely common trope. I think it's less common to have both of these tropes working in tandem though certainly not unheard of (hello, Wheel of Time), and the nature of the storytelling method in effect here means that the fallen advanced civilization is more thoroughly developed in the worldbuilding than it is in many other stories, but none of this is a wildly new concept.
I want to talk about genre, medium, and actual play, which is sort of both and sort of neither. I think people talking about actual play tend to mash all three of these things together when they really shouldn't.
(this is a long one so it's under a cut to not wreck your dash)
The genre of Critical Role's main campaigns is heroic fantasy, which I know I've covered in the past, and of epic scale. This is honestly pretty typical of D&D. NADDPod (especially Bahumia) and TAZ Balance and Graduation are also arguably within this same broad genre, just more comedic and looser with aspects of the worldbuilding.
Despite the fact that Brennan is very well-versed in fantasy novels, D20's main deal is that it's not classic heroic fantasy. I think this is actually a bigger factor in why people prefer CR to D20 than many people think. The shorter length is definitely another factor (though that too feels almost related - the critically acclaimed indie comic run to Critical Role's series of doorstopper novels) but Dimension 20, while it comments on classic heroic fantasy with Fantasy High and Escape from the Bloodkeep, only ever dips into anything actually approaching that genre with the Game of Thrones-inspired low fantasy seasons and, funnily enough, with the Dungeons and Drag Queens miniseries. Otherwise, it's telling school stories, urban fantasy, space operas, heists, murder mysteries, comedies of manners, and action-adventure. Similarly, TAZ Steeplechase and Amnesty very much aren't of this genre. Critical Role meanwhile touches on supernatural horror with Candela Obscura.
Actual Play is a means of telling a story, and typically the system at least puts in place the general expectations of what can be done within the improv. Some systems (such as Candela Obscura or Blades in the Dark) set a particular genre; others, like D&D, favor one but permit a good degree of flexibility. Actual Play is not really the same as genre, as discussed above; D20 genre hops quite readily, as does The Adventure Zone, even while using the same TTRPG systems.
Finally, there's medium. This one is easy. Critical Role and D20 are filmed shows (though are available as podcasts); so is, to give a non-Actual Play example, The Bear. NADDPod and TAZ are podcasts. So are (for example) The Silt Verses and Midst.
The reason I've outlined all of the above is to say that I think people tend to assume simply being actual play is somehow closer than sharing genre. This is also to an extent true for longform fiction podcasts (though it is less true for TV and books). I think this has led to an influx of fans of actual play (and, tbh, podcasts) who aren't familiar with the genres within which actual play shows are working.
I do not say this to gatekeep (though honestly, gatekeeping is both not inherently bad and also, not possible in this context). It's more of an exploration of what I think may be a reason why, particularly in the Critical Role fandom, it feels some of the Campaign 3 opinions feel somewhat half-baked.
You can be a fan of heroic fantasy and enjoy actual play but not actually be terribly into actual play that isn't heroic fantasy. I think some people who loved Critical Role Campaign 1 but nothing after that and no other actual play fit into that category. I think Campaign 1's fandom was, indeed, heavily skewed towards fans of fantasy and fans of D&D (as a venue to roleplay one's own fantasy story and as a game itself heavily shaped by heroic fantasy fiction) more so than anything else. If you like, say, The Kingkiller Chronicles or the Stormlight Archives or the Wheel of Time or Lord of the Rings? You might like Critical Role.
By 2018, and definitely by 2019-2020, the landscape had changed, and the attitude was much more one of "if you like this actual play, you'll like this one" which is actually...nowhere near as true, in my mind, as recommendations based on genre. I think this is also when people started folding in "longform speculative fiction podcasts in general" which to be honest was already an issue with the medium of longform fiction podcasts. Wolf 359, The Silt Verses, Midst, The Penumbra Podcast, and any season of NADDPod are all longform, plot-based speculative fiction podcasts with queer representation, but that doesn't actually mean someone who likes one will like another. (Also? Queer rep? Gets treated like podcasts or actual play, to be honest. It's extremely possible to love only one of The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, Stars in My Pocket Like Grains of Sand, The Woods All Black, and The Priory of the Orange Tree despite all of these being novels with queer relationships, yet a lot of the time Queer Rep is treated as a genre, an "if you like this, you'll like that!")
I think it is true that there are people who enjoy actual play on a fairly general level (myself included), and with podcasts especially I think there are people who enjoy fiction delivered in this manner and people who have some difficulty with it. But I think there's a tendency to push people who like one actual play towards other actual play when they may be more interested in longform audio fiction, scripted or not; or might be inclined towards a particular genre. To go back to the examples I've given, someone who likes Candela Obscura might find The Silt Verses and The Woods All Black more appealing than, for example, Fantasy High, despite that also being filmed actual play, because the latter two are also supernatural horror with exploration of class.
Because actual play, in its weird not a medium, not a genre, but kind of both space is, well, in between spaces, it gets treated as the most specific element of works of fiction when that's not always true. The consequences, therefore, end up being twofold. You get people who come to AP series because they liked another one that doesn't actually have a ton in common, and it ends up hit or miss (this is one of my theories why the D20 fandom can be extremely weird about Critical Role; because it was pushed on them when it's really not what they're into, which is neither their nor CR's fault); and you get people coming to specific actual plays and enjoying them without much familiarity with their genres, which I think is behind some of the weirder C3 takes since C3 is arguably the first campaign that truly began after Actual Play began to be treated as a genre.

Tristan do we get a list of ur horror movie recommendations??👀
Of course 🎃 this list is by no means comprehensive, i'm sure I forgot a few titles that I may come back and update later on if I remember them and it's not in any particular order. Cw for pretty much everything so watch at your own discretion and if there's stuff in particular that anyone wants to avoid i'd recommend doing some online searches first to see if the thing you wanna avoid is in the title you want to check out.
1. It Follows
2. 28 Days Later
3. Terrifier 2 and 3 (I also enjoyed the first one tbh but the first one has like 0 plot to speak of beyond "Art the Clown kills people in extraordinary ways")
4. Evil Dead 1, 2, Army of Darkness, and Rise
5. World War Z
6. Tetsuo the Iron Man
7. Halloween (the original and the 2018 one, I actually have a bit more appreciation for Halloween Kills now than when I first watched it so I'll add it as well but a LOT of fans hated it so ymmv I guess)
8. Scanners
9. Skinamarink (this one you really need to be fully engaged in watching the movie and putting yourself in the place of the main characters for. I watched this one solo in a dark room with my phone in the other room and really really enjoyed the nightmare journey it took me on but if id been on my phone or talking to friends then I don't think I'd have gotten nearly as much out of it)
10. Midsommar
11. Hereditary
12. Get Out
13. Nope
14. Us
15. House of 1000 Corpses
16. Noroi the Curse
17. The Thing
18. The Strangers
19. I Saw the TV Glow
20. Cabin in the Woods
21. Train to Busan
22. Saw (really just the first one tbh, while Saw X was also good it does kind of require you to have slogged through other titles in the series to fully follow the story)
23. Psycho Goreman
24. Mandy
25. The Midnight Meat Train
26. Ready or Not
27. The Descent
28. As Above So Below
29. Alien
30. Prometheus
31. Prey
32. I'm Just Fucking With You (another horror-comedy)
33. Mandy
34. Ichi the Killer
35. A Quiet Place
36. Scream
37. Talk to Me
38. Hellraiser (the original and the 2023 remake)
39. Green Room
40. The Lighthouse
41. The Grudge (I've also heard the Japanese version Ju-on is really good but have yet to see that one myself)
42. The Ring (same as with the Grudge, I've heard the original Japanese version Ringu is better but I haven't seen it yet to confirm)
43. Audition
44. X, Pearl and Maxxxine (they're a trilogy, X and Pearl can be watched as standalones but Maxxxine really doesn't hit if you haven't seen the first 2)
45. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original)

watching a movie with 141—
Price
he’s a suspense/thriller type of guy, but also likes a good drama
despises romcoms and musicals (says they suck out the realism)
likes popcorn but doesn’t eat much of it
prone to falling asleep (he just gets really comfy)[typical peepaw behavior]
will glance at you to watch your reactions (and he’ll remember them too)
Gaz
Loves a good action flick but down for romance too
Definitely puts an arm around you regardless of what you’re watching 😳
Might skip on popcorn but he’ll always get some sort of candy
Will commentate on some things that you might not notice 👀
definitely the best person to watch a movie with out of the team tbh 😭
Soap
Loves action and comedy, anything loud with explosions & corny jokes
Horror movies make him uneasy, and he gets mad when the jump scares get him 😭
This mf loves popcorn he’s a never ending muncher, and you bet it’s getting stuck in the couch too
Will literally talk at the characters while watching, talk about how he’d feel if he was in whatever situation, make snide comments, just non stop yammering
Doesn’t fall asleep, but if he’s bored he’ll eat or get handsy 💀
Ghost
this mf loves his documentaries (nature ones are his favorite), and he loves horror movies (for obvious reasons 👀)
the quietest when it comes to movies, but he’ll let out a chuckle now and then
prefers other snacks than popcorn
if you’re really skittish during a horror movie he’ll put an arm around you (he’ll tease you about it later though)
Hates watching movies with Soap sober, but after a few drinks he can get just as loud and obnoxious as him 💀
!!BONUS!!
Konig
loves horror movies but he definitely watches sci fi and animated movies too
if he wants a horror movie, he’s getting one, no exceptions—
and if you’re begging him to turn it off bc it’s too much…he’ll make you beg for other things afterwards 💀
he loves popcorn! he always offers you some too 🫶
if he falls asleep, he’s a rock. don’t even bother trying to wake him up 😭
Keegan
loves crime and thrillers, but thinks sci-fi is cool too
quieter than ghost really 😳 he smiles at jokes
munches popcorn, finger licking the butter is his guilty pleasure
if he falls asleep you’ll never notice because he’ll stay sitting in the same position 💀
i think he’s more of an audiobook person overall tbh
Laswell
if she’s present, then the team will be watching a romcom (cue peepaw groan)
gets popcorn but she’ll have dinner and a few drinks too
her and gaz are besties during this time 👀 they get along the best
she’ll tolerate Soaps nonsense but if he starts getting too rowdy she’ll kick him out 💀
honestly has the best movie recs with epic female leads 💕
Graves
this man lives and breathes military, western, and action movies *cough* top gun mav
popcorn is a must, always gets the biggest size
gets up multiple times for random shite 🙄
bro will whoop and cheer during high intensity moments 😭
claps at the end, and will want to binge the next right after

hello!! i saw the tags on your pinned post abt how shoujo wasn't just romance and it got me curious bc i've read some nice shoujo but really dislike romance-heavy plots. are there any shoujos you like that don't have much or any romance in them? ty and i hope you have a good day! 💛
Oh, there are lots of mangas that are classified as shoujo and don't have romance!!
I am just now beginning my journey through shoujo as well, so I don't have a lot of recommendations for stuff I actually read, but the ones I did read or watch so far are:
Natsume Yuujinchou and basically anything else by its author, Yuki Midorikawa. Sometimes, her works do include romance, but the focus is almost always in the interpersonal relationships and the difficulties her characters go through in life. NatsuYuu is about an orphan boy who can see yokai, and for that reason he acts in "weird" ways and his foster families dislike him, so he keeps going from family to family. The story is about how he finds a good family who accepts and loves him, makes friends, and learns to make friends even with yokais.
There are currently 6 anime seasons out, and a 7th season is on its way, so you can either read the manga or watch the anime.
Tumblr media
Akatsuki no Yona - i mean, this one does include romance, but i'll still put it on the list because as far as the anime went the focus is heavy on Yona's actual journey to gather the dragons of legend to be able to recover the kingdom that was stolen from her. It shows how Yona goes from a sheltered spoiled girl to a person befitting the title of dragon king.
Tumblr media
My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom - this one is the og villainess isekai and it truly deserves the hype. It is about a girl who wakes up in the child body of the villainess of her favorite otome game. She remembers that the villainess' fate in the game was always either death or exile, so she tries her hardest to change her fate. This one is classified as a reverse harem, but the main character is pretty oblivious and worries more about farming and eating sweets and generally being the best girl ever than actually worrying about romance. Aro ace queen tbh. And her harem is just happy to be with her and be dragged along for her stupid adventures. Plus, the female members of her harem are taken seriously as well, Mary is a raging lesbian and it is not subtext. I mean, it is a shoujo, so of course the female characters would be important lol.
Tumblr media
Usagi Drop - listen to me. You will absolutely not look for anything related to this manga. If you like the premise you can watch the anime. But, please, do not look for the manga. You will only be extremely disappointed by it. That being said, I recommend the anime. It is about a man who returns home for his grandfather's funeral and then finds out his grandfather had an illegitimate daughter who has now become an orphan. He ends up having to take care of her because the rest of the family considers her a shame to the family.
Tumblr media
Now, for the stuff I havent seen yet, I'll just write some that are on my "plan to read" list and put their genres next to their names so you can check it out if you think the genre's sound interesting:
7 Seeds (drama, horror, psychological, sci fi, survival)
Requiem of the Rose King (drama, historical, supernatural, gender identity)
Basara (drama, fantasy, adventure) (i think this one has romance, but from what i've heard, the main character's story is a lot deeper as she takes her brother's identity in order to fight against the king who killed her brother, it is pretty famous and considered a classic)
Ghost Hunt (horror, mystery, psychological, supernatural)
Helter Skelter (horror, psychological)
My Stepmother and Stepsisters aren't Wicked (comedy, historical, slice of life)
Ikoku Nikki (drama) (this one is the one i'm currently most interested on, i hear it's about a distant woman who's never had a good relationship with her sister and now has to take care of her teenage niece because her sister died)
Itsuwari no Freya (crossdressing, historical)
Limit (drama, psychological, school) (this one sounds incredible tbh, on a field trip their bus gets into an accident and only 5 girls remain, having to learn to survive and trying to assert themselves over one another because they hate each other.)
Machida-kun no sekai (school)
Mitarai-ke, Enjou suru (drama) (the main character wants to infiltrate the household of the family who blamed her mother for a fire, in order to prove her mother's innocence)
Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You (comedy)
Uramichi Oniisan (comedy, showbiz, workplace)
Usotoki Rhetoric (mystery, historical)
Don't Call It Mystery (mystery)
If anyone has more things to recommend I would also love to hear about it!!

The fourth image is the first Guest from Gregory Horror Show! GHS is set in a creepy hotel that filled with occupants that have it out for The Guest in varying degrees. The people and situations within the hotel reflect the Real Life of the protagonist, as is par for the genre of this brand of horror. The Guest can't really do anything but be subject to The Horrors, and that point is really brought home in the formatting of the show- it's in first person, the camera is (usually) set where The Guest's eyes are, and (save for the intro of each episode) he doesn't speak
The first Guest isn't directly looking for anything, or anyone. The only thing he's lost is his Self. The show starts with him seeking shelter in a hotel in the middle of the forest because he got off the train and just... ended up here. Alone. Lost. He doesn't start off as a really defiant character or anything. He goes through life and hell without much care to make his own choices
Gregory horror show is a cgi comedy/horror anime from 1999, so it's definitely a relic from its time. Overall though it sticks the landing, I really enjoy it as well as the journey The First Guest goes on

🪸 JULY LISTENS 🪸
(ft. some lovely coral for those of us caught up on The Magnus Protocol😌)
this month, i’ve been working through some of the stuff that’s been languishing on my listen list for approximately a million years as well as revisiting some old favorites. here’s what i enjoyed most in my earholes:
G.O.B.L.I.N.S — (pilot, crowdfunding now!) for fans of Stellar Firma, the Meredith brothers have reunited with some other familiar voices to spin a story about an overly ambitious human office worker who gets dragged through the veil into the fae realm by a pair of chaotic goblins. the show is scripted but it’s marked by the same sense of humor that has characterized the Meredith’s other improvised works. 8 episodes projected if it funds.
Larkspur Underground — (11 eps, complete?) a fictional exposé about the sole survivor of a serial killer’s disturbing abduction and grooming. i was giddy to discover this one as an ardent fan of Showtime’s Dexter. it’s gory and glorious, and if you’re keen you might spot some clues; if not, the final episode is going to shock you. creator wants to make more, but it’s been a few years so who knows.
I Found A Wormhole — (5 eps, complete) a short yet existentially harrowing series. exactly what it says on the tin. mind the content warnings on the final episode but by the time you get there you’ll definitely know what’s coming tbh.
The Grotto — (10 eps, ongoing) a pull-no-punches exploration of messy grief with a supernatural twist. season two is here! this series has an absolutely killer soundtrack and immersive sound design. it has such a unique vibe. you’ll definitely like it if you like WOE.BEGONE.
Dear Bastard! — (16 eps, complete?) an epistolary comedy about a bunch of squabbling neighbors. i like to use this show as a palate cleanser when i’ve been listening to a lot of gruesome horror, because it’s just so light and fun.
Deviant — (10 eps, complete) a space pirate dramedy! i stumbled across this purely by accident and did a little binge. i love an absolute mess of a protagonist, so this was right up my alley. it’s a little abrasive at times but overall i enjoyed the narrative and it wrapped up nicely.
Murphy — (6 eps, s2 in production) a folkloric monster-of-the-week mystery with very charming characters. the first season is complete and although it is short, the episodes are long and make great use of their runtime. pleased to see their recent crowdfunder has been successful so there will be more!
Ghost Wax — (45+ eps, hiatus) a horror anthology facilitated by a “reclaimer” who can extract the final statements of the dead. this is similar to How i Died but the lore feels much more fantastically intricate. i don’t want to spoil too much of the meta plot but there’s a LOT going on, and i’m looking forward to s2.
Fulmar’s Folly — (12 eps, ongoing?) people on reddit love this series so i decided to give it a spin. fans of zombie survival like We’re Alive are most likely to eat this up. it can be a little overwrought at times, but the constant tension feels genuine in context. episodes are quite long but the length feels satisfying and necessary.
Nowhere, On Air — (46 eps, ongoing) another spooky small town radio show about a girl in a world she doesn’t belong to. this is one of my favorite genres of AD. fans of WTNV, King Falls AM, Tiny Terrors, and other shows of that ilk will probably enjoy this. it leans a little more surreal and introspective than comedic. IMHO, the host also just has a lovely voice. the meta plot is currently really hitting its stride.
All In My Head — (19 eps, ???) night terrors turn out to be something much more sinister. so intriguing, i was devastated to realize it may have been abandoned. i’m not going to completely give up hope for a final season though!
Zoinks! — (11 eps, complete?) a darkly comedic homage to scooby doo and other childrens detective fiction. i loved the way the narrative approached the subject of child neglect, while still maintaining a thread of silliness that saved it from complete bleakness. s2 has been mentioned but it’s projected release date has come and gone without a word, so it may or may not happen.
Trice Forgotten — (10 eps, ???) an aspiring cartographer gets accidentally mixed up with some pirates. i relistened to this series in honor of its anniversary and was just blown away by the sound design all over again. the setting is made so rich and alive by the effort put in by the production staff! and the character dynamics are so intricate and gorgeous. i am especially a fan of the tension between alestes and gammon. beautiful first season with SO much left to explore, i really hope to see this come back for a s2 someday.

All my rambling thoughts while watching TADC episode 3
Tumblr media
Watched this episode with a friend when it came out and I have! Feelings!! So here’s my rough approximation of some of my thoughts on it while watching!
Spoilers ahead!
——— • Love the gang hanging out together
• “And Zooble turns straight!” JAX NO
• “What do YOU, the VIEWERS, think it is?” Mm. Don’t like that. • Every time “Today’s Adventure” plays I just grin like an idiot, I’m SO happy it’s in every episode
• Caine being desperate to create an adventure that Zooble will go on is a really interesting concept
• I miss Gummigoo ;^;
• OHH THE LIGHTING IN THIS EPISODE. THE VIBES!! THE HAUNTED MANSION!!! IMMACULATE. I cannot possibly gush about it enough.
• “I’m not really a fan of horror, and I don’t really handle jumpscares that well.” She’s just like me
• Ohhh the ghost is so cute 🥺 what a little guy-oh, whelp, goodbye
• RAGATHA’S HORRIFIED FACE IS SENDING ME
• Oh that’s nightmare fuel :D
• “You know, I’m starting to think…” oh. oh that’s-that’s the end of the sentence.
• “Well, this is some rather inconvenient lore placement” I love Kinger
• THE 2D EYES
• Them being fixated on the fly is so funny to me for no reason
• NEW SLEEP PARALYSIS DEMON JUST DROPPED
• “You look beautiful, honey”
Tumblr media
• “UUUUUP!!” AHDAJGDA
• Zooble therapy time!
• Oh no,, sad therapy time
• Aw Zooble :( dang
• Caine is 100% listening to Zooble when they tell him to ‘just forget it’ and I don’t think they realize that. Poor Zooble
• OH GOD OH NO CAINE. He’s just as trapped as the rest of them
• “I ended up shooting the love of my life” Kinger’s face here worries me
• “Okay I won’t” the humour in this show is so good man
• HE DID NOT MISS
• Kinger protecting Pomni, I love them actually
• “w h a t” *WHEEEEEZE*
• THE GIRLS HAVING A TEA PARTY IS SO GOOD. I love Martha, she seems so chill
• Jax being tied up made me laugh really hard. Yes, good, keep it that way. He deserves it.
• Tbh Caine putting in a pacifist route is more than I expected him to do
• “How’s your wife, Kinger?” THE AGONIZED SCREECH I LET OUT, OUUUGHHH MY HEART-RUDE AND UNCALLED FOR, ACTUALLY
• “Seven years of computer science for this, huh?” OH????
• “He just wants me to suffer.” Hm,, I don’t think she’s talking about Caine there
• “How about we just relax for a bit while nothing’s chasing us?” Awww
• Pomni crying,, ouch :(
• OH BACKSTORY?? NO TEASE?? JUST RIGHT INTO THE PAIN????
• “She was funny, creative, really into entomology. I used to hate bugs, but she somehow got me to like them.” Cute established/married couples where one just gushes about the other usually makes me weak but this time it HURTS
• Oh god I love them so much and she’s not even HERE
• Their whole talk is sooooo good and heartbreaking. I love their father-daughter / grandfather-grandchild dynamic, it’s so well done.
• “I’m glad you’re here with me.” SOB
• “As long as you remember it, things will be okay.” PLEASE I CAN’T DO THIS
• Glowstick
• Pomni thanking Ragatha for always looking out for her and Ragatha looking so taken aback and grateful AUGGGHHH. YES. Ragatha deserves SO much love.
• “Did you remember to get my comedy mask?” “…F*$&!” AHDJAHDA
• “It wasn't that bad, actually.” AWWWW
My expectations for this episode were high but DANG. The team absolutely knocked this one out of the park. Definitely my favourite episode so far.
Kinger’s one of if not my favourite character and I’m SO happy he got so much focus. His and Pomni’s relationship and him comforting her is devastating and beautiful and I can’t even say anything about it without just devolving into
Tumblr media
Anyways, I can’t wait to fanart about this episode like a normal, functioning person!

I *do* wanna ask you dmtnt questions so bad please tell me everything about how you would make it a good movie
like in general? I think it should have leaned more into the horror vibes they were gunning for in the trailer like at the very least make an attempt to have it stick out somewhat against the other movies. you could even have it end on them failing to get the trident or whatever if you wanna go for a darker tone like yeah it would render everything kind of pointless but it'd at least be interesting + you could hammer in that theme of destiny that's present in awe wrt will like he is doomed to be on that ship that will never change etc. have also said this before but will should have gotten to go full monster I think ideally at the beginning of the movie when henry takes his dive or whatever he should have fully died and will taking him back to shore should have counted as a breach of contract so he gets to be fish now. that could give henry a lot more angst as well like if he's not just trying to find the trident but also on some level like. running away from home so he won't have to face elizabeth after he basically caused will to get extra cursed. I also think they could have done a lot more with carina than just smartgirl like me personally I like to characterise her as kind of ruthless like not necessarily actively causing harm but willing to step over a lot of ppl to get what she wants. like she's grown up completely isolated and ostracised to me it would make sense if she's not great with people. could also have some tension between her and henry with carina being abandoned and henry just sort of throwing his perfectly good family away (at least in carina's eyes). as for jack, disregarding the fucking elephant in the room, in terms of scripting you could really hammer home the idea that he's totally given up like on life on everything etc. like him giving away the compass is fucking stupid but if you play it less as just plot go forward and more as jack letting go of the thing that's always been his main tool for getting what he wants, showing his complete loss of drive and whatever you could at least get something out of that plotline. could also get some dark comedy out of him being like. not actively suicidal but kind of just ready to die. if you played your cards right you could point to how he knows the afterlife is in more capable hands with will to the reason why, beyond him just being miserable on land. also like I said dark comedy you could have him literally doing gallows humour etc
n ee way these are just like ideas from my twisted mind tbh I also think for dmtnt to truly work you'd have to have laid better groundwork for it with ost like I think a cool thing to do in general would be to have like. the og trilogy and the new era of potc be really distinct thematically like og trilogy focuses a lot on class and ost has this wonderful potential core of religious struggles and like in a perfect world we'd have some thematic throughline to dmtnt but alas we live on hell planet so we have fucking. that instead 👍

(Genshin Impact) Jean, Lisa, and Ayaka watching 'The Room' with their S/O
Tumblr media
Still better than whatever movies are coming out these days tbh.
Tumblr media
Well, this was...certainly a movie.
Jean didn't think anything when S/O had mentioned they wanted her to watch a specific movie.
She figured it'd be a romantic comedy judging by the name.
And it absolutely was. Just not the way she was expecting.
Jean watched with a mixture of amusement, horror, and sheer disbelief of the acting on display.
But hearing her S/O's reactions did make it even more enjoyable. At least the flick wasn't boring to watch.
Tumblr media
Lisa noted the look in S/O's eye when they mentioned they had a movie they absolutely HAD to see.
In the first five minutes, Lisa was laughing along with her S/O.
The acting was a sight to behold on the TV, she had to make sure her teacup was on the table otherwise she'd drop it.
This was the type of story she loved to watch or read about, something she'd never forget.
Though the reasons for not forgetting this was probably not the intended way.
But hey, to her, a story remembering at all is better than one forgotten.
She'll also be quoting it for the next week with her S/O as an inside joke and weirding out anyone nearby.
Tumblr media
Ayaka at first watched in horror, noting S/O's laughter upon her reacting to the movie.
This was what they were looking forward to watching all week?
But, Ayaka is all about new experiences so she couldn't complain.
A little bit into the movie, Ayaka is laughing as much as S/O is.
She thinks the whole plot is absurd and the actors moreso.
Especially when she finds out about the mini-cult that follows this movie and it's main actor.
But she doesn't hate the movie, far from it.
She just simply wasn't prepared for the majesty of lines like "Oh, hi Mark," or "Hi, doggy!"
