Harvestfest was a wonderful time full of refreshment and family, but it’s also great to be back home and back in the swing of things. We were surprised one day with a light dusting of snow one morning, it didn’t stick but it was a great sign that the seasons are soon to change and that winter will be here before we know it! Recently at church our pastor preached a message on never wavering in our faith despite the changing seasons, and how timely his message was. There’s so much change happening all the time, yet we shouldn’t get caught up in our lives that we forget our God and his goodness to us! My uncle Allan preached the message on Harvest Sunday, and it was wonderful having almost all of our family in our grandfather’s church. The message that weekend was also apt and spoke about building a Godly legacy that will follow on even when we’re no longer on the earth. My grandparents made sure to live in a Godly manner and raise their children as such, and it was a good reminder to us grandkids that now that we’re having children we need to have the same fervour for the Lord and prioritize raising Godly children! 

The kids have been excited to start school again, Aria is 8 turning 9 next year with Ansel turning 8 in the new year - so they’re only a grade apart with her starting 3rd and him starting 2nd. We use loads of different curriculums depending on how they teach different subjects, including the one that I used growing up, so I feel confident that I know the subject content inside and out since I was taught it and reviewed it. They both get right into homework after breakfast so they can be done and head outside to go play, we do quiet time with the younger kids if they’re up so that the mornings aren’t as hectic as they can get. 

Since they're close in age, they're on the same level of piano and violin lessons. At home they have their own violins, but for piano they travel to a piano teacher's home for their lessons twice a week. We're in the process of looking at electric pianos so that we can get one for them to practice on. Music has always been important to me, growing up my parents showed us that music was an incredible way to worship the Lord, even the Bible says so. Having the kids play music that honours God will help them to redirect their thoughts to Him and keep worship of him in their hearts and minds, the hymns I was taught as a little girl still play in my head daily and I would love the same for them. Eric works from home so he's usually witness to their music lessons, thankfully for all of us the kids have been improving in their skills so the music is nicer to listen to - but regardless of how it sounds we always make sure to cheer them on.

Aria loves to keep the little kids occupied when I need a few minutes to recharge, she loves helping them with their learning cubes and getting them to say their letters, numbers, and colours. When we do family devotions we all pick our word of the month, and Aria (after learning the definition) chose patience and her word of the month. She says that having younger siblings is a way the the Lord teaches you patience, and I have to agree with her! She only ever engages with them for around 15 minutes as a toddlers attention span is only so long, but she says that those 15 minutes are enough for her in the moment 😂.

Eric has been teaching the kids how to ride a bike, he takes each kid out on their own so they can move at their own pace. Ansel is slightly more apprehensive than Aria, to our surprise, you'd think that the little boy would be all gung-ho about bike riding, but in this case it's Aria who has more confidence! Eric says she's be zipping around in no time!

My sister Sabrina came to stay with us too, Tucker was out of town on farm business with his parents so Sabrina and little Campbell came to see us. She's in her second trimester now and will have a gender reveal with the family at Celeste's wedding to reveal what this newest blessing will be! While she was over we looked at baby names, they won't reveal the name until the baby is born but at least we got her down to a shortlist of names. I'm out of my pregnancy/labour & delivery season of life, and I've enjoyed getting to pour into those around me who are just entering motherhood - especially my younger sisters and sisters-in-law. The Lord having Sabrina live close to me feels like a blessing in that I get to be here for my sister, along with the fact that we have each other for support. We're headed to Britechester in a few weeks for her final dress fitting, she wants all the sisters there for her final fitting as she's only had one or two of us there at a time for her earlier fittings. She's asked Macie and I to be her maid and matron of honour, so we're in the process of arranging schedules for a nice bachelorette weekend for her. She wants something small with her loved ones, so we're aiming at renting a cabin and heading up the mountains for some fun in the snow to take advantage of the winter weather.

Zach was also with us after Harvestfest, he stayed for a bit to spend some time with Kelsey. It's heartwarming seeing my younger siblings meet their person and work to build the firm foundations needed for a Godly relationship. Kelsey is such a wonderful girl and makes Zach so happy, hopefully there's news of an engagement soon!

A look back at the year

JANUARY

I started playing with the characters in this story in mid-December and posting it in my Instagram Story. I had no intentions to do anything with it long-term; it was just a way to play, low pressure, but I still had the compulsion to share! By mid-January, I was so attached to the characters, I gave them their own account.

 FEBRUARY

It took a couple weeks to get through the early posts and I started with original content in February. The first thing we did was take a summer vacation to Selvadorado. Axl has a (random) jungle explorer aspiration so it seemed like a good idea. He loved it! Noe was poisoned and almost died! 

MARCH

We made family portraits on the afternoon of Harvestfest. I really do love these kids! This was never the plan for the game/story but Noe kept getting abducted! 

APRIL

Antonia had been abducted a couple times and I finally thought it’d be fun to follow her. I had some ideas about the aliens that I wanted to explore and I was telling the story primarily through her eyes at the time so it was necessary. 

MAY

Her abduction left Antonia feeling out of control so when she was offered a job outside the home, she jumped on it even though she was doing well as a painter on her own. I found a photo of the inspo building while cleaning out my phone recently and though, oh, that’s Antonia’s workplace. No, it’s my college studio building! The job meant Stevie went into daycare, which seemed to suit him – he’s outgoing and doesn’t mind his disguise. Antonia’s meeting new people! But she’s in hot water with the woman who runs the women’s arts cooperative in Finchwick which Antonia also recently joined. When we finish the flashback, she’ll have all that and more to deal with. 

JUNE

I never remember to get married in this game. It just doesn’t occur to me! But Noe has been bugging Antonia for a while and on Winterfest night, he finally made a grand gesture proposal in the Ruins while they were both wearing ugly holiday sweaters! When we get back to present day, we’ll be planning a wedding. I’ve already picked out the dress! 

JULY

While I waited for High School Years to come out (Axl will be in his final semester of his senior year!), I decided to do a short flashback to flesh out how Antonia and Noe met and their early days. And here we are. 

AUGUST

 Noe calls Antonia “bud” and a new nickname is spawned! They’ve fallen into an easy friendship by this point. Also, hottie!

SEPTEMBER

Their relationship is growing and they’re starting to have real romantic feelings. Antonia decides to get rid of her long-distance boyfriend. Noe trusts her with some uncomfortable details about his past. And they dance!

OCTOBER

We’re off on yet another tangent with a spooky tale for Halloween! The plan was to have a post each hour from noon to midnight on Halloween. I ended up posting a few days into the next month. I’ll start earlier next time! Although in the end, it was revealed as a campfire story that Noe told, there are some clues about his ancestry in the post.

NOVEMBER

At the summer carnival, Antonia assures Noe that her intentions toward him are serious. They enjoy spending time together in a different setting and they learn new things about each other.

DECEMBER

Finally! The anonymous boyfriend is dumped, other obstacles are cleared, and we get some intense kisses and more! Much more! 

2023

What comes next? There’s still a few things to establish in the flashback. I’m resisting the urge to play the flashback through Axl’s babyhood – we’ll see. I do love these characters as young ones and it would be interesting to explore the mess I’ve dropped on their plate, but this is also a good breaking point to go back from. 

When we return, it will be to Axl’s senior year, some conflict for the twins, Antonia and Noe both wrangling in their jobs, and wedding planning! 

In the immediate future, I have to my game is in desperate need of updating and probably repairing. And I finally need to get High School Years!

35 - Kaji

Félix loves September. He enjoys the early autumn days when the temperature is still mild enough to go outside without a coat, and he likes the warm, vibrant colours of nature. Most of all, he enjoys the feeling of being back at school. September brings a sense of anticipation, of consistency and normalcy that makes him feel content.

This September is a little different than all the others, though, because he's not back at school on his own. He’s got his little passenger along. The upcoming academic year may not be as exhilarating as his recent five-week trip to Selvadorada, but he isn’t going to say it won’t be an adventure.

He feels good as he strolls across campus on his way home on Friday afternoon. The first week of classes has gone well. His first-year students all seem curious and eager, and his upper-year students are serious and dedicated.

He still has his small group of graduate students this year as well, but part of their work will be supervised by another professor, as Félix will not be able to go to Selvadorada with them during the winter term. He’ll be too far along by then, and travelling to a research station in the middle of nowhere would be much too great a risk. Even though there does happen to be a field hospital nearby, they wouldn’t be equipped to deal with his particular condition if anything were to go wrong. It’s more prudent for him to stay in Willow Creek with a state-of-the-art hospital right here in town, and the highly specialized Nookstone clinic less than twenty minutes away in neighbouring Newcrest. He’s sorry he'll miss seeing his students make their first discoveries, but not the least bit regretful of the reason why.

He rests his palm against his belly, something he's caught himself doing lately, and smiles. So far, the only people at the university he's told about the baby are the head of his department, the other archaeology professor who’s helping with his graduate students, and the person in human resources who's in charge of the administration of health insurance and short-term medical leave. As Davian had remarked, it's strictly need-to-know at this point. By the start of the winter semester in January, however, it's definitely not going to be a secret any more.

Everyone's going to know about you soon enough, little one.

A bit over nine weeks along, he's not showing yet, but he's already noticed that some of his skirts and pants are starting to feel a bit too snug around the waist. He’s taken to wearing a pair of Davian’s jeans around the house, because they’re bigger than his own and therefore more comfortable.

Dav is pleased by this development, and seems to enjoy gently teasing Félix about stealing his clothes. It’s either that, or I’ll have to go shopping, is Félix’s standard reply. But soon, it won’t be just a fun little joke. He expects that by Harvestfest, he will indeed have to go shopping because by then he'll have started to develop a bump. Maybe he’ll get Dav to take a picture, so he can share it on their peer support group chat, like Sunny and Tae did.

He laughs to himself, recalling Tae's excited group text a couple of weeks ago, informing everyone that he'd noticed his own bump. No one was surprised that Tae was the first among them to start showing, considering that he's further along than the rest of them and he's carrying twins.

Currently, they've got a pool going, to see which of them will be next. Tae thinks it'll be Dylan, and Artie thinks it'll be Félix, but Félix and Dylan are both sure it will be Artie. As Dylan commented, Artie is so tiny that his belly would probably stick out if he ate one too many grapes, never mind what the baby's going to do to it. Even Artie had laughed at that, conceding it was probably true. Dylan says he's convinced he'll be the last to start showing, given that he already had a noticeable belly long before Junior was even a thought in his or her dads' minds.

Félix is looking forward to tomorrow, to attending his first in-person group meeting since returning from Selvadorada. He can hardly wait to see all his friends, and to catch up on everyone's news.

He especially wants to see Artie. They’d made time to text each other nearly every day while he and Davian were away, and the daily exchanges had encouraged both of them. They’d talked about things other than their physical progress, but there had certainly been plenty of baby discussion too. Like Félix, Artie has also been following Dr. Zira’s suggestion to keep a journal about his pregnancy, and they’ve each shared some of the things they’ve recorded so far.

Félix finds it fascinating to see how different their experiences have been. Artie seems to have every symptom and side effect on the list. Félix, on the other hand, is breezing through. The worst he’s had to deal with so far is a mild, albeit distressing, resurgence of acne, and an inexplicable craving for pineapple. He did get sick one morning, but it hasn’t happened since, so he’s putting it down to having eaten bad fish for dinner the previous evening rather than to their little one.

Despite his and Artie’s vastly differing physical experiences, they share a similar range of psychological ones; everything from worries about the changes in their appearance, to anxiety about the delivery surgery, to insecurities about their adequacy as parents.

Artie says he’s concerned that people won’t take him seriously once it becomes obvious that he’s pregnant, and Félix agrees this concerns him too. They worry about how others will see them, and that people will think it’s an attention-seeking stunt or worse, that they’re meddling with the universe’s natural order. Someone at Artie’s work had apparently made a statement along those lines already, unaware of Artie’s situation, and he’d confessed to Félix that the overheard remark had upset him a lot. Félix could empathize. He wouldn’t want to work in an environment where he knew people would be vocally opposed to the new life he’s nurturing. He’d felt bad for Artie, and wishes he could do something other than listen to his troubles.

The good news is that It’s not all stress and worry all the time. Regardless of their struggles, they still know how to have fun and relax. Artie and Emma have invited him and Davian to come to their house for dinner after their support group meeting tomorrow. They’re going to grill veggie burgers in the back yard, and the Greenes have a pool, so if it’s warm enough to swim, the four of them will get some exercise in before dinner. Félix has promised that he and Davian will bring dessert and a bottle of non-alcoholic wine. He’d love a regular glass of wine, but obviously neither he nor Artie are allowed, so they’ll have to make do with the next best option.

He's still happily occupied with envisioning their outdoor dinner party as he wanders along the paved footpath that leads to the faculty parking lot. The path is lined by a hedge and a small green space that students attending classes in the summer session often like to use for picnics or impromptu soccer games. There's nobody using it at the moment, but Félix suspects this is because it's Friday afternoon, and most people are heading off campus to do other things.

He's about two-thirds of the way along the path when he suddenly hears a noise coming from the hedge. At first, he ignores it because he thinks it's probably an animal. He's often seen raccoons on campus, and there's no shortage of birds and squirrels around at this time of year, particularly here at the university, where there are plenty of trees and no real predators.

As he gets closer to the end of the path, though, the noise becomes more distinct. It sounds like whimpering, and he's sure his heart misses a beat when the realization comes crashing in on him that it might actually be a person.

For a moment, he stands frozen in place on the footpath, unsure as to what he should do. He wants to investigate, in case the person is injured and needs assistance, but he's also a little nervous. He wouldn’t be so worried for himself, but he's fully aware that it's not just his own safety he has to be cognizant of anymore.

Almost without thinking about it, he puts his hand on his stomach again. It'll be all right, little one. Be brave in there. We need to see what's happening, and help if we can.

He receives no response, of course, but that doesn't stop him from imagining he does. His child will not be the sort of person who turns a deaf ear to the distress of others, because that’s not who he is either, and even if they can’t see his example today, the notion that he’s already being a good example for them still somehow reassures him.. He knows he can’t simply walk away.

Cautiously, he steps off the path and up to the row of shrubbery. Just as he leans in for a look, something — or someone — pops up from behind it. Félix lets out a startled gasp and stumbles backward. As for the person in the hedge, they make a high-pitched keening noise of a frequency so high that it makes Félix’s eardrums vibrate.

The shriek lasts for a few seconds, and then dissipates into loud sobbing.

It takes Félix a moment to catch his breath, and then he steps forward again. He peers over the hedge.

A pair of uncanny platinum coloured eyes with dark grey sclerae gaze back at him. Those strange, beautiful eyes are wide-set in an elfin face with luminous pale blue skin, and they are filled with tears. The air all around the person is shimmering deep purple.

Félix’s knowledge of Sixamish people is admittedly limited, but he can recognize a male when he sees one, and he knows enough about their auras to understand this male is stressed and scared. Félix can’t be entirely certain, but he looks barely out of adolescence. He’s thin and delicate, and his spots shade from magenta on his forehead and shoulders to coral, orange and deep yellow across his cheekbones and on his chest. He’s filthy, and he’s naked, except for a dingy pair of shorts.

“Look at you,” Félix murmurs, as much to himself as to the Sixamish boy. Then, in a more normal tone. “Do you need some help?”

The boy wipes a grimy hand across his eyes, trying to clear away some of the moisture. He sniffles, and says tremulously. “I… I come in peace.”

Félix can’t quite hold back his smile. “I’m sure you do,” he says. “Do you need help?”

He’s obviously registered the question this time, and it sets off a new flood of tears. “Y-yes,” he says. “Please… I’m scared, and I’m hungry, and… and I asked my people for help, but they all said I should go back. But, I can’t!”

“Go back where?” Félix asks.

He whimpers and shakes his head, and says something that sounds like “Yina.”

Félix doesn’t know if that’s a Sixamish word, or the name of someone, or if he’s simply misunderstood what the younger man said. He decides to try a different approach. “My name is Félix,” he says. “What’s your name?”

“Kaj’izaran.”

“Your common name,” Félix clarifies.

“Kaji.”

“It’s nice to meet you, Kaji,” he says. “Would you like me to help you?”

“Do you have food?”

“I have some granola bars in my car.”

“What is… granola?”

“It’s a kind of sweet grain cereal. I think you’ll like it.”

“Yes.”

“Okay. If you want to come with me, I’ll give them to you. Then, perhaps we can contact your family, and let them know you’re safe.”

“My family is on Sixam,” he says in a small voice.

“You’re here alone?”

“With Yina,” he says. “But, she hurt me. It’s why I ran away.“

So, Yina is a person. Félix can’t begin to guess what might’ve happened between Kaji and Yina that would compel him to run away, and he honestly doesn’t want to at the moment. He doesn’t ask, either, sensing it won’t be something Kaji can easily explain. “In that case,” he says, “I think we do need to find a way to contact your family.”

“You’re an Earth person. You can’t contact them.”

“Maybe not, but I think my friend Tae can,” Félix says. “I’m certain he talks to some members of his family on Sixam.”

“He wants to?”

“Why wouldn’t he want to?”

Kaji shakes his head. “Because maybe they do bad things, like my family.”

Despite his curiosity being piqued, Félix quickly decides he doesn’t want to pursue this line of conversation either. Instead, he holds out a hand to the young alien and says, “Come with me. We’ll get you something to eat and something to wear, okay?”

Kaji hesitates for a second or two, but then he carefully places his slender hand into Félix’s. “Okay.”

Félix guides him out of the shrubs and onto the grass. Now that he’s got a better view of him, he can see that Kaji isn’t just dirty. He’s scratched and bruised, and it looks as if his feet are swollen.

“Kaji, how long have you been on your own?”

“Four sunrises,” Kaji says. “Or… five? I forget. It... it’s hard to remember when I don’t feel well.”

“You haven’t eaten in four or five days?”

“No. I ate something from a big box. I saw Earth creatures eat from it, so I thought it was safe, but then I got a very bad pain in my belly, and… and I got sick.” A few more tears leak from the edges of Kaji’s big, dark eyes. “I was scared to try anything else after that.”

“Oh.” Félix doesn’t know how else to respond to this. He can’t even grasp being so hungry that he’d try to eat something from a dumpster. His heart aches for the fragile little alien, and he has to resist the urge to pull him into a hug. He doesn’t even know him, and yet he suddenly wants to fix everything for him, to erase the haunted look from his features and make sure he’s safe.

Still holding Kaji’s hand, he turns back to the footpath. “Can you walk?”

Kaji nods. “Yes, but it hurts.”

“It’s not far. My car is just over there. The orange one. See?”

“Yes.”

They go slowly, with Kaji limping along like a little old man. Félix wishes he could carry him. Kaji is small, only coming up to Félix’s shoulder in height, but he’s still too big for Félix to lift.

Eventually, they make it to the car, an Félix helps Kaji climb in. Kaji doesn’t know how to fasten his seatbelt, but Félix helps him with that, too. He gazes at Félix with a look of curiosity mingled with apprehension. “This is a vehicle. Are you taking me somewhere?”

“Would you like to go somewhere?”

“I don’t know,” Kaji says. “I… I don’t have anywhere to go.”

Félix realizes he’d already unconsciously made the decision to take Kaji home with him before he’d ever reasoned it out in his mind. It’s probably not the wisest choice, and he’s a little worried about how Davian might react, but he can’t just leave Kaji to continue fending for himself. There aren’t that many other places he could take him. The police station or the hospital perhaps, or maybe the Sixamish student association office here on campus, but none of those seem appropriate.

“Kaji,” he says. “Would you like me to take you to my house? You can have a bath and something more filling than granola bars.”

“Can I sleep there?”

“Of course.”

“And you’ll give me a bath and dress me?”

“I already said you could have a bath, and yes, I’ll find you something to wear.”

“Okay,” Kaji says. “Please take me with you.”

Before they go, Félix unwraps two cranberry granola bars from his small stash in the glove compartment, and gives them to Kaji. The young alien is hesitant at first, but by the time Félix pulls out of the faculty parking lot and points his car toward home, Kaji is devouring the snacks exactly like someone who hasn’t eaten in a week.

As soon as he’s done eating, he promptly falls asleep.

Félix glances over at him, both amazed and horrified at the sight of him. Who would want to harm such a beautiful, innocent little creature, and why? What could possibly have happened to make this poor boy flee with literally nothing? He has a thousand questions, but he knows he’s not likely to get answers to most of them, or at least not any time soon.

His phone is connected to Bluetooth In his car. This is a novelty for him, as his old car hadn’t even had a working air conditioner or radio. Right now, the technology is also a blessing.

Into the silence, he says, “Hey, Siri. Call Tae-min Lee.”

Episode 6 ~ A Little Help

So, Olivia took my advice. She slipped on an apron that covered nothing at all and decided that this would be her Harvestfest content. Now this is content I can get behind, literally, actually. I’m sure her fans will appreciate it. I might appreciate it more later.

Hello Simmers!

It’s been quite the year for The Sims 4! We blew past the game’s 5th anniversary with no signs of slowing down. One of the community’s most highly requested expansion packs just launched recently, and we hope you’re all enjoying getting educated in Discover University. In case you haven’t heard, we’ve also launched another community Stuff Pack project, where your collective votes will decide the path of yet another pack coming to The Sims 4. And of course, The Sims’ franchise 20th anniversary is just over the horizon, which we’re looking forward to celebrating with you.

Today’s update has been influenced by you as well... We set aside time to specifically address issues that you’ve let us know are important to your in-game experience, and we hope the long list of fixes and improvements you’ll find below will lead to many hours of fun playing The Sims 4. In addition, we’ve squeezed in a few un-planned extras we hope you’ll enjoy. Not only have we added some new music tracks to the game, but we’ve also converted a number of hairstyles to now also be available for children and toddlers. While the adult versions of these styles will remain exclusive to whichever pack they originally came from, we hope you’ll all enjoy these additional options for your Sim’s little ones.

While Maxis will soon be taking a short break to enjoy the holidays (merry Winterfest, and a Happy New Year!), we’ll be back for another packed year for The Sims 4 in 2020. See you then!

FIXES & UPDATES

The Sims 4

Fixed an issue where macOS Simmers could crash when accessing The Gallery.

Fixed an issue where Nice or High Quality harvestables would disappear from Sims’ inventories after Travel or Save/Load.

Fixed an issue where Freelancer Career tasks would not complete after Sims would Travel.

Sims that were seated at a 6 seat round table can now Clean up the dishes.

Child Sims will be now able to enjoy Quick Meals again!

Fixed an issue where Sims didn’t write a genre book when “Write Genre Book” was selected.

Multiple duplicate interactions should no longer appear in pie menus when you have certain objects in your inventory.

The Jet Set Luxury Bath (bathtubJetsGEN_01) was listed as being Unbreakable when that wasn't true.

Speaking of Unbreakable, we fixed an issue with Hot Tubs and Stereos where unbreakable upgrades would not work if these objects were in use when upgrading them.

Fixed an issue in which some Sims could stand on, or walk through solid objects.

Adding a Sim to an existing household via the Create a Sim Stories feature will no longer subtract Simoleons from the household.

We attempted to track down the lost harvestables that are currently lost, but found they were lost and unfindable. It’s findings like this that we find we are at a loss of words for, however any future loss should not be found.

Sadly, all the children who had thought they had found the magic loophole, stay seated at the table, are no longer…

...right… like any kid ever stays seated at the table.

This could occur if a large object caught fire. You would have to wait until the fire spread outside the bounds of the large object in order to extinguish it.

In some cases these would appear as two invites for the same event, one that was the “hey, I just wanted you to know” invite, and the other would be the real invite. They should behave more accordingly to expectations.

Sims with the Shrewd reward trait weren’t as shrewd as they thought they were. We have restored their shrewd’ness and they should now actually receive the money they so rightfully shrewded away at the end of each week.

Fixed an issue in which some shirts in Create A Sim would not tuck in appropriately into skinny jeans.

We blame it on bad investments, the cd market apparently didn’t mean compact discs.

yfTop_EP03Mesh_OmbreBlue now looks as intended when paired with skinny jeans.

Seasons

Sims can now complete New Year resolutions on any lot, and not just their home lots.

The Lottery Holiday is back in your calendars! It should not be a surprise disappearing act any longer.

We spoke to the Holiday Gnomes and they have agreed to stop dropping seed packets if your Sims are not on Lot when the Holiday ends.

Fixed an issue where Weather would affect items inside buildings.

Flower Bunny’s contract has been renewed for them to appear on any Holiday or Tradition that they are scheduled to.

Mandrake and Valerian Root plants are now able to be planted indoors when it is Too Cold if Simmers have Realm of Magic installed.

Holiday Gnomes will no longer break Unbreakable objects when having a negative relationship with them.

Hello Simmers!

It’s been quite the year for The Sims 4! We blew past the game’s 5th anniversary with no signs of slowing down. One of the community’s most highly requested expansion packs just launched recently, and we hope you’re all enjoying getting educated in Discover University. In case you haven’t heard, we’ve also launched another community Stuff Pack project, where your collective votes will decide the path of yet another pack coming to The Sims 4. And of course, The Sims’ franchise 20th anniversary is just over the horizon, which we’re looking forward to celebrating with you.

Today’s update has been influenced by you as well… We set aside time to specifically address issues that you’ve let us know are important to your in-game experience, and we hope the long list of fixes and improvements you’ll find below will lead to many hours of fun playing The Sims 4. In addition, we’ve squeezed in a few un-planned extras we hope you’ll enjoy. Not only have we added some new music tracks to the game, but we’ve also converted a number of hairstyles to now also be available for children and toddlers. While the adult versions of these styles will remain exclusive to whichever pack they originally came from, we hope you’ll all enjoy these additional options for your Sim’s little ones.

While Maxis will soon be taking a short break to enjoy the holidays (merry Winterfest, and a Happy New Year!), we’ll be back for another packed year for The Sims 4 in 2020. See you then!

Sims are their own boss, so it didn’t make sense for them to do that.

Fixed an issue in which some shirts in Create A Sim would not tuck in appropriately into skinny jeans.

Vintage Glamour

Addressed several issues that caused the butler to fail to perform their assigned tasks.

Emotional auras in photographs can now be toggled on/off.

Fixed an issue where some photos taken were a bit blurry when placed in frames in Live Mode.

Tripods placed on floors other than 1, 2, or 3, should no longer cause the camera to change floors when attempting to take a photo.

Ask to Pose interaction should no longer fail if the Sim attempts to run the interaction from the Open Street.

February 2020 Patch Notes

To mark the 20th Anniversary of The Sims, Maxis released a big patch, fixing a lot of issues and bringing new content. As a birthday celebration, players were gifted a new hot tub and a new selection of songs, whist console players were gifted the Child Statue, which for some was a slight disappointment after the hype that surrounded this patch. Many of those players had paid for the Perfect Patio stuff pack, specifically for the hot tub, so I understand the frustration. On a personal level, I’m happy with the hot tub, the swatches a really nice and I can see myself using it a lot, however I do wonder whether bringing back some classic items from previous games would have been better received by the community. There was a lot of speculation around making babies actual sims, rather than objects, and whilst this would have been great, having a games designer husband, I know that there are engine limitations and the sheer amount of work that this would take is huge. All in all, the patch was ok, but missed the mark by some distance. Maybe another time.

General Issues

Fixed an issue where Nice or High Quality harvestables would disappear from Sims’ inventories after Travel or Save/Load.

Fixed an issue where Freelancer Career tasks would not complete after Sims would Travel.

Fixed an issue in which the game would jump to Ultra Speed randomly when some Service NPC, specifically Maids, were on the Lot. Talk about speed cleaning!

Photo frames used within Gallery Uploads would not retain their chosen color once those lots were downloaded from The Gallery. They’ve been properly chastised and will listen to you now.

Freelancer gigs can now complete and/or update accordingly while on Vacation. So if you want to work while you vacay I guess you can now. Sucker.

Fixed an issue where two “Tuck In” interactions were able to be selected when Children slept on any bed.

Sims that were seated at a 6 seat round table can now clean up the dishes.

Child Sims will now be able to enjoy Quick Meals again!

Fixed an issue where Sims didn’t write a genre book when “Write Genre Book” was selected.

Multiple duplicate interactions should no longer appear in pie menus when you have certain objects in your inventory.

The Jet Set Luxury Bath was listed as being Unbreakable when but Sims took that as a challenge and broke it. It has been recalled and fixed so now it truly is unbreakable.

Speaking of Unbreakable, we fixed an issue with Hot Tubs and Stereos where unbreakable upgrades would not work if these objects were in use when upgrading them.

Fixed an issue in which some Sims could stand on, or walk through solid objects.

Adding a Sim to an existing household via the Create a Sim Stories feature will no longer subtract Simoleons from the household.

You can now extinguish a fire, even if the fire is within another object.

Sims can now Scrap the unfinished paintings of visiting Sims

Light intensity will no longer reset when setting Auto Lights options

Fixed an issue which made the item Tiny Globe & Sycee of the Prosperous Moon appear twice in Build Mode

Half Wall Trim can now be applied to half walls on all levels of your lot

Sims in the Supreme Villain career working on the mischief interaction task can now use the Slablet to Troll the Forums to complete the task

Small rugs can no longer be placed over the cutouts created by stairs

Caterer Sims will now be able to make a Cake and complete their Party event goals

Some example interactions that were reported: “Play Fetch”, ”Give Potion”, “Blackmail”, “Scan Here”. The LastException related to this issue should also be fixed.

Still not sure a stereo and hot tub are the best combo from a safety perspective

This could occur if a large object caught fire. You would have to wait until the fire spread outside the bounds of the large object in order to extinguish it.

Artistic types can be so rude, just leaving their unfinished work for you to clear up

Get Together

Toddlers will now route appropriately when selecting ‘Plan Outfit’ on Closets. Well, as appropriately as those slow little Sims move anyway

Get To Work

Aliens will now display selected options for Eyebrows and Beards accurately in Create A Sim.

Fixed an issue where Scientist Sims would record their findings in Notebooks twice.

We addressed an issue that could prevent Sims from not being able to ring up customers who attempt to purchase from the warming rack.

Some boots, along with the Sims feet, were disappearing when the camera was zoomed all the way out. This should no longer occur.

The "Refer for Surgical Treatment" interaction is now available on surgery tables that have had their color altered with the bb.enablefreebuild cheat.

Oh wait, now I see where they picked up that habit.

City Living

There were a number of confusing situations that arose as a result of Invites your Sims would receive. In some cases these would appear as two invites for the same event, one that was the “hey, I just wanted you to know” invite, and the other would be the real invite.

Sims with the Shrewd reward trait weren’t as shrewd as they thought they were. We have restored their shrewd’ness and they should now actually receive the money they so rightfully shrewded away at the end of each week.

Some Sims just want you to know that their invite was coming by sending a pre-invite I guess.

We blame it on bad investments, the cd market apparently didn’t mean compact discs.

Seasons

The Lottery Holiday is back in your calendars! It should not be a surprise disappearing act any longer.

Solved an issue with swimwear that made it display incorrectly and no one wants a swimsuit malfunction!

We spoke to the Holiday Gnomes and they have agreed to stop dropping seed packets if your Sims are not on Lot when the Holiday ends.

Fixed an issue where Weather would affect items inside buildings.

Flower Bunny’s contract has been renewed for them to appear on any Holiday or Tradition that they are scheduled to.

Mandrake and Valerian Root plants are now able to be planted indoors when it is Too Cold if Simmers have Realm of Magic installed.

Holiday Gnomes will no longer break Unbreakable objects when having a negative relationship with them.

The pedestal gnome will no longer spawn as part of the Harvestfest gnomes tradition.

They wanted to spread holiday cheer… or they were attempting to bring about the end of Simanity, and usher in a new world order. Tomayto, tomahto.

We don’t know what was done to make them angry, but even as magical as they are, they should not be breaking the Unbreakable.

Get Famous

Married Celebrity Sim Couples will no longer React in Disgust with each other then they enter the same room.

Household members will no longer react to members with Pristine Reputation every time they travel together.

Fixed an issue that caused Recording a Product Review to fail if the Sim had previously interrupted a review by traveling to another Lot.

The Well Suited and G.R.A.N. talent agencies are back in business! Gigs from these agencies will now display appropriately.

Super Speed 3 should now work when Sims sleep in their Sleeping Pods and have a pet.

Actor Sims can now Check Open Auditions properly when returning from Work. Get that bread! Be a starving artist no more!

(3rd Person POV)(AN: The ages I'm listing are the newly adjusted ages that took me like 65 years to sit and calculate, so disregard any old ages that you might have in mind for the characters and just have these ones in mind)

This year for Harvestfest, all of Claire and Ryan's kids came back into Newcrest to celebrate at their childhood home. Since Eric and Valentina have the most children (and Valentina is the oldest daughter), they got to stay in at the house with their parents and single siblings whilst the rest got their accomodation in town. It was great having almost all of the extended family in Newcrest because it meant having their relatives essentially take over the town.

Names & Ages: Carter 31, Valentina 29, Alan 28, Celeste 27, Kristyn 25, Sabrina 25, Jarrod 21, Zachary 19, Conner 17, Jarrett 17

(AN: With all of them lined up like this, I've never really noticed that the kids are an even split of redheads and blondes. Genetics are wild innit)

This is this year's siblings portrait. Between these 10 kids there are 13 (almost 14) grandchildren that have been born, and hopefully many more to come as the years go on. Having all the kids be home means that the house is full of hymns, with everyone singing worship music to glorify the lord and worship him together. All 6 married children live away from home, so getting to see them all together is wonderful for the 4 kids living at home. Celeste, the oldest and only girl still living at home is relishing her single season of life. She spends her time working as a nanny for various church members, when she's not doing that she's out of town visiting her siblings or volunteering her time with different ministries. The Lord hasn't brought anyone special into her life yet, but she's content with her gift of singleness. Zachary is the next oldest boy at home and he's currently working full time with a local contracting company run by a man that attends Newcrest Baptist as well, he's got someone that might end up being special but for now they're just friends. Conner and Jarrett, the youngest 2, are almost done with highschool and are thinking of what they'd like to do. Both have ideas of going to a bible college to study either software design (for conner) and accounting (for jarrett), they're hoping to study online or to go attend colleges neat family that they can stay with.

These are the 6 married siblings and their spouses:

Carter (31) and Madelynn (28) live in Willowcreek with their 3 children: Lester (7), Fitzwilliam (1), and their newest addition baby Alana. Carter continues to work for the Willowcreek Police Department whilst Madelynn remains at home to homeschool Lester and care for the home and children.

Valentina (29) and Eric (31) live in Brindleton Bay with their 6 children: Aria (8), Ansel (6), Abbott (2) & Asher (2), and their newest additions Abigail and Adele. Eric continues his work in freelance software engineering work whilst Valentina focuses her energy on homeschooling the kids and taking care of the house and the blooming garden they've developed. When she's not busy doing that she's working on her music and teaching music classes here and there. In the past year they've gotten chickens and have been working with the children on learning how to care for animals, with talks of a dairy cow in the future.

Alan (28) and Tessa (21) live in San Myshuno with their 2 (almost 3) children: Charity (2) and Edgar (1). Alan continues his work for Christian Critics Association whilst Tessa stays at home with the children, most recently preparing to welcome their newest blessing to the family. (AN: She had the baby like a day after Harvestfest, it was a little girl named Faith. With Tessa's scheduling she should be pregnant again by the new year 🥴)

Kristyn (25) and Gregory (28) live in Oasis Springs with their daughter Kayla (2). Gregory continues his work for his father's company whilst Kristyn stays home with little Kayla. They chose Harvestfest to announce that they're expecting another little one!

Sabrina (25) and Tucker (26) live in Brindleton Bay with their son Campbell (6 months). They opted to not join his family on their music tour to stay home and bond with the baby, but did join for a few tour dates that were close enough to home that they could travel.

Jarrod (21) and Madison (19) live in Evergreen Harbour with their newborn son Myles. Myles joined the family just a few weeks before Harvestfest, so he was the youngest family member at the festivities (until Tessa's baby was born). Jarrod works for a construction company with a few other men from their new church, and they're excited to settle in nicely as a family of 3.

Yuri

Hello, all. Yuri here.

Please excuse the fact that I’m in bed. It’s been that kind of day. I spent a good portion of it at the hospital, but thankfully I’m resting at home now and, as they say, all’s well that ends well.

I’ll tell you about my day in a minute, but first things first. Look at my beautiful birthday present from Victor.

The first time I saw this bracelet was last year just before Winterfest. Victor and I had been shopping in town, and on our way back home we’d stopped to look in the window of a jewelry shop, simply because all the glittering objects had caught my eye. Victor teased me about my not-so-secret love of sparkly things, but seemed content enough to stand with his arms around me and to listen to me spin out my fantasy of owning something with diamonds on it some day.

Then, in the back corner of the window display, he’d spotted this bracelet and pointed it out to me.

“Look,” he’d said. “A snowflake. I think that one would suit you.”

The little card next to it that displayed the price told me right away that the stone in the center of the snowflake wasn’t a real diamond, but that didn’t matter. There was something about it that captured my attention. It was so delicate and pretty, and it made me think of clear afternoons on the mountain, all blue and silver and shining.

It wasn’t just the mountain that showed off those colours so magnificently. I’d looked up at Victor, who was smiling with his whole face, blue eyes bright and alert. The evening breeze was tousling his prematurely silver hair, making it stick out in random directions. He’d lost his hat somewhere, and I don’t think he’d even noticed.

“You could give it to me for my birthday,” I’d said.

He’d offered me an amused look. “Your birthday’s like, nine months away. How am I supposed to remember?”

“You’ll remember. Just think about what brought us together.”

“Snowboarding?”

“You can’t have snowboarding without snow, can you? Millions of snowflakes.”

“Oh, yeah,” he’d said cheerfully. “Thanks. I can definitely remember it like that.”

And he had remembered. Lying in bed on the morning of my birthday, as Victor carefully fastened my lovely new bracelet around my wrist, I couldn’t stop smiling. I was happy about the bracelet, but even more pleased that Victor had made the effort not to forget.

Evidently, not everyone is as impressed by it as I am. When Seiji and Taka were here for our Harvestfest dinner party, they both made fun of Victor for buying me jewelry for my birthday, and they said the pendant looks more like a flower than a snowflake. Seiji's girlfriend Chiharu said it was pretty, but she apologetically told me that she thinks it's a woman's bracelet. I don't care. It's exactly what I wanted and I think it's gorgeous.

I know it's not practical to wear every day, but honestly, I never want to take it off.

On the afternoon of my birthday, Victor and I went to Hanamigawa, which is down in the valley. The leaves are fantastically vibrant this time of year, and I love looking at them. We ate sandwiches and fruit while sitting under the colourful canopy of a maple tree, and then we just wandered around the park for a while, admiring everything.

In the evening, we went to our old neighbourhood, Wakabamori, and went to a lounge where they have karaoke. We haven’t improved much since the last time we tried it. We’re both still terrible at karaoke, but it was a lot of fun.

True to his word, Victor bought me a drink while we were at the karaoke lounge. He doesn’t drink alcohol, so he had some sort of carbonated juice, but I had a cocktail called Zebra Fizz. I don’t know why it’s called that, since it’s neither striped nor fizzy, but incongruous name notwithstanding, it tasted really good. Unfortunately, it did upset my stomach a little, but I didn’t tell Victor because I didn’t want to worry him. Anyway, it wasn’t too bad, and I felt fine the next day, so I’m calling it a win.

I cannot, however, put today in the win column.

No, that's not entirely true. I think I can put today in the win column, but what I had to go through to get there makes it feel less like a win than it should.

If you haven't already guessed, the hospital isn’t my favourite place, and doctors, nurses and technicians are not my favourite people. Being chronically ill is emotionally exhausting, and sometimes I get really frustrated and upset and angry about it. Today was a day when I felt more upset than frustrated or angry. I didn't want to go for another round of tests, and I didn't want to see my doctor, as much as I like her as a person.

Thank goodness for Victor. I can't even begin to describe how grateful I was to have him with me today. He kept me from falling apart completely, especially when I was waiting in a room before the imaging test where I required sedation, and a nurse came around with a whole collection of needles. Okay, it was just two needles, but I was so distressed that it might as well have been twenty. I hate needles, particularly the ones with sedatives in them.

I was curled up and fully prepared to engage in some dramatic self-pity, but it was clear that Victor was determined not to let me go there.

"You'd better not be sulking," he said "This is a 'no sulking' zone, you know."

"I don't care," I said. "This sucks. It merits sulking."

"So, it's not super fun, but it's not totally bad," he said. "There's got to be one good thing about it."

"Really? Name one."

"I've got two. It's nice and warm in here, and you don't have to wait alone."

"About that," I said. "They don't usually let you come this far with me. What did you say to that nurse to let you in here?"

Victor had the grace to look embarrassed. 'I might've lied a little," he said. "I, uh... told her that you're my husband."

"And she believed you?"

"No idea, but she didn't question it," he said. "If anyone asks, we've got our matching rings to show them, right? It's not like they're going to want actual proof or anything."

"You're impossible," I said.

He grinned at me. "I know."

Trying to distract myself, I asked. "If I really was your husband, whose family name would I have? Would you take mine, or would I take yours?"

"I'd definitely take yours. 'Yuri Nelson' sounds like a character in a badly-written action film."

"You think 'Victor Okamoto' sounds better?"

He laughed. "Okay, no. Maybe slightly better, but it kind of has anime vibes. I guess we'll just have to be a modern married couple and keep our own names."

"But then, how would everyone know we were married?"

"I'm sure they'd figure it out," he said. "Some people already think we're married, anyway. My boss does, and she's only seen us together a handful of times. Incidentally, she thinks you're cute."

"She does? Is that appropriate?"

"Pretty sure it's fine," he said. "I took it as a compliment when she came up to me after you dropped me off one morning and said, 'your husband is really cute'. And I mean, she's not wrong."

I was blushing. "You didn't correct her?"

"You want to hear some useless trivia you didn't ask for?" he said. "If we were in Canada, technically you would be my husband. When you live together with your partner for at least a year, the law considers you spouses. So, if we were in my country, I could call you my husband and it wouldn't be weird."

"Maybe instead of going to Selvadorada, we should just go to Canada," I said.

"No reason we can't do both. I’m sure if we went home, Mom would let us stay at her place.”

“Let’s think about it, okay?” I said. “I’d like to see where you’re from.”

“Okay,” he agreed.

By then, I think the sedative was kicking in. I was starting to feel drowsy, so I laid down. After that, all my memories were a blur for a while.

In all honesty, I’m glad I don’t remember most of it, because I'm reasonably certain it isn't something I'd enjoy thinking about in hindsight. I do recall a couple of people moving me off the bed and onto a gurney, and Victor trying to hold onto my hand as he followed us out the door. I also remember being cold, but I'm frequently cold, so maybe that's no surprise.

I must've had a moment of lucidity out in the corridor as well, because I recall we stopped moving for a minute. My doctor was there. Her name is Espérance Kasongo, and coincidentally she's a Canadian, like Victor. She speaks in a rich contralto and has a pleasantly unusual accent, so her voice is difficult to mistake for anyone else's.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Nelson. This is as far as you can go with him," I heard her telling Victor. "Don't worry. We'll have him back to you in about an hour, safe and sound. You can sit in the waiting area for now, and someone will come fetch you when we're all done."

Victor said something to her that I didn't understand, and then, "Can I kiss him?"

Dr. Kasongo laughed. "Go on. Quickly."

Victor brushed back my hair and kissed me softly on the forehead. "I love you, Yuri. See you in an hour or so."

"Love you," I murmured. I don't even know if I said it in Japanese or English, I was so out of it. I felt like I was floating. The only thing that's good about being sedated, in my opinion, is that I'm never aware enough to be anxious or scared about what’s coming next.

What I presume was an hour or so later, I was unhappily awake and aware of everything. They’d returned me to the same little room I’d been in before, or one that looked just like it. It was warm, much to my satisfaction, but it still smelled like disinfectant and was far too bright.

For what originally seemed to me like an inexplicable reason, Victor was kneeling on the floor beside the bed. It took me several seconds to figure out that it put him exactly on my eye level, and that I didn’t have to move at all in order to look directly at him.

"Hey,” I said. My mouth was dry and my voice sounded oddly scratchy to me.

If Victor noticed, he didn't say. He looked relieved to see me awake. "Hey," he said. “There’s my brave boy. The nurse said you did great. How are you feeling?”

I was tired, my entire abdominal area was sore, and the aftereffects of the sedation were making me feel weak and nauseous. I couldn’t form enough words to explain that, though, so I went with, “Awful.”

“I guess we knew that’s what the answer was going to be, didn’t we?”

“Yeah.” I really tried not to cry, but it was just too much. At that moment, i wanted nothing more than the comforting familiarity of my room, my hot water bottle, and Victor holding me close until i was able to fall asleep. “Sorry I’m such a mess.”

“It’s okay,” Victor said. “You’re allowed to be a mess.”

“Can we go home? I just want to go home.”

He touched my face gently. “We will. As soon as they say you can go, I’ll take you home.”

“Please, I want to go home now.” I repeated through tears, knowing even as I said it that I’d have to wait. “I don’t like it here. I want to be in my own bed. Please…”

“Shh… shhh…” Victor made soft hushing sounds and kept stroking my cheek with his thumb. “Sweet baby, listen to me. I know you feel miserable and you want to go home. I promise I’ll take you as soon as I’m allowed, but we’ve got to stay here for now, okay?"

"I don't want to."

"I know you don't, but you have to. The nurses have to be satisfied it’s safe for you to get up and leave," he said. "It'll only be for a little while, and then we can go home and you can rest in your own bed."

“Please stay with me.”

“Of course I’m going to stay with you. Do you want me to hold you?”

I sniffled loudly, humiliated by my weakness and tears, and yet feeling completely unable to help myself. “Yes, please.”

He climbed onto the bed with me, and gathered me into his arms. He rubbed my back and whispered comforting nonsense against the top of my head until I eventually stopped crying.

"Better?" he asked, once I'd finally gotten my breathing under control.

"Not really, but thank you."

“What else can I do?"

"Nothing," I said. "Just let's stay this way a bit longer."

"Is your belly hurting really bad?”

“No, not really badly. It’s a little tender, that's all. But, I feel sick, and… I don’t know. I hate everything about this.”

“I wish you didn’t have to go through any of it," he said. "If I could magically fix everything for you, you know I would.”

“I know,” I said. I leaned into him and rested my head on his shoulder. “I love you for that.”

“I love you. Full stop,” he said. “For better or worse.”

“In sickness and in health?”

He laughed. “Is this a hospital or a wedding chapel?”

The sound I made was somewhere between a chuckle and a groan. “Ohh… Victor, don’t. If you make me laugh, I might throw up.”

“We don’t want you doing that,” he said. “It’d ruin our surprise wedding.”

“I… I mean it. Don’t…”

“Hey,” he said, suddenly serious again. “Deep breaths. Deep as you can. In through your nose, and out through your mouth. Remember how I taught you?”

“Y-yes.”

“Good. I’ll do it with you. Ready?”

I nodded.

He helped me lie down again, and he snuggled next to me. Both of us barely fit on the narrow bed together, but we made it work. Victor quietly coached me through a breathing exercise which, even if it didn’t fix everything, certainly helped me feel more comfortable and settled.

He told me he'd learned all these breathing techniques as part of a non-medical pain management course he’d taken in college for his diploma in health and wellness. When we met, he was already more than halfway through the two-year program of study.

Apparently, Victor really has been keeping up all his acquired skills by practicing on me, in between his job as a fitness trainer back in Canada and his job as a personal wellness coach at the fitness centre here. He joked a while ago about me being his favourite health and wellness project, but when I stop to think about that, it’s likely more factual than funny. The irony of our situation was not lost on me, as once again, I found myself marvelling at how the universe must’ve been perfectly aligned to bring us together.

I don’t remember falling asleep, but I must’ve dozed off for a while, because when I opened my eyes again I was alone in the bed, and Victor was in the chair next to it.

"We keep meeting like this," he said, when he noticed that I was awake and trying to sit up.

I smiled, glad to have succeeded in pushing myself more or less upright without help. I took a moment to assess, and realized I felt somewhat better. "Obviously it's our destiny."

"Obviously." He grinned. "Looks like you're coming around. The nurse was here a little while ago and she told me you could get up and put your clothes on when you woke up. She said Dr. Kasongo is going to come in and talk to us for a minute, and then I can take you home. Sound good?"

"Sounds great," I said.

"Need help getting dressed?"

"No, thanks. I think I can manage."

In the end, the only thing I couldn't do by myself was put my socks and sneakers on, I decided I didn't really need socks, and I let Victor help me with my shoes.

By the time Dr. Kasongo arrived, I was fully dressed except for my coat, and Victor and I were once again trying to occupy a piece of furniture that was only designed for one person.

"You look like you're ready to leave us, Yuri," Dr. Kasongo commented, as she crossed the room. "Ready to make your escape from our hall of torments."

"I hope you don't take it personally," I said.

She smiled. "I assure you, I don't. We do some terrible things to you. I would wish to run away from me, too."

"It's not you. Just the procedure."

"Don’t worry. I understand," she said. "Now, I know you've got a consultation scheduled with me next week to review all your test results, but I wanted to see you quickly before you left today."

Beside me, Victor tensed a little. "It's not bad news, is it?"

"Not at all," the doctor said. "It's quite good, as a matter of fact."

"What is it?" I asked.

"I'll get straight to it," she said. "As you likely know, we haven't got all the results of your bloodwork and antibody tests back yet, but I can say on a preliminary basis, your imaging looked very good today. And I understand you told the intake nurse that you've had very few symptoms for over a month now?"

"About six weeks, I think," I said. "Victor?"

"Yeah," he said. "Since just before we moved, so maybe almost seven weeks."

"Excellent," said Dr. Kasongo. "That's very good. I'm confident you're in a period of clinical remission at the moment. We'll confirm it with your test results, but I'm happy to make that diagnosis now."

"What does that mean, exactly?" Victor asked. "Is this a long-term thing now, or...?"

"Unfortunately, we can't predict how long a remission will last," Dr. Kasongo said. "Some patients can remain symptom-free for very long periods of time. Others relapse after a short time." She shifted her gaze back to me. "Yuri, the best things you can do are to keep following your food and exercise plan the way you've been doing, take your medication, have a stable sleep schedule, and manage your stress. Oh, and continue working with your personal wellness coach. I understand he's exceptional."

I laughed. "The very best," I said.

"Your husband, if I understood correctly." She winked at us.

"Uhh..." Victor said. "About that."

It was Dr. Kasongo's turn to laugh. "Minako told me. Very clever circumvention of the rules, Mr. Nelson.”

“I’m not sure you realize how dangerous it is to encourage him to circumvent the rules, Dr. Kasongo,” I said.

Even when it’s to your advantage?” Victor asked.

“Some rules are flexible enough to be bent without being broken,” Dr. Kasongo remarked. “And who does it harm if we keep the truth among ourselves about this one thing? Mr. Nelson, I will note you and Yuri as spouses in the chart, so you can support him as much as possible when you're here from now on."

"Thanks," Victor said. "And you can call me Victor. Mr. Nelson is my grandfather."

"Victor," she repeated. "Well then, Yuri and Victor, I won't keep you any longer. Go home and rest, and I'll see you at your appointment at my office next week."

I went straight to bed when I got home, which probably isn't a fact that's going to shock anyone. After a properly long nap in my warm, comfortable bed, I felt quite a lot better. I didn't even argue when Victor suggested I should have a snack, although I whined at him until he agreed to feed me. I know, I'm ridiculously, shamefully spoiled. Judge if you want, but you probably didn't have the day I had. I'm sure I'll be back to using my own chopsticks in the morning.

Afterward, Victor sat with me, and we talked about the future for a while. Our casual mention, earlier in the day, of travelling to Canada so Victor could see his family had somehow taken hold as a full-fledged idea, and we tentatively began to plan it.

All our joking about being married seems to have taken root a bit, too, although we're far less attached to that notion than to visiting Victor's home town of Willow Creek. We don't need to be married to have everything we need. We're already fully committed, spirit, mind and body. If everything we've already been through together doesn't prove that, I don't know what else would.

I'm so lucky. Even with all my personal struggles, I can say that. Not everyone can say they've found their soulmate; that one person who fills all the spots in their heart that were empty before, and who willingly opens their own heart to being filled in return. It's not just about needing someone, but also being needed. It's about making every experience a shared one, both the good and the bad.

Every day, I'm thankful that I've found the one who fills up all the space in my heart, who's seen me at my worst and still thinks I'm the best.

(This is going to act as an update post on Zoe and her family, I'm trying to be more proactive about talking about the other kids in the 'heir' families that aren't the main characters. This also makes it so that I can do smaller updates when I do the big holiday family updates, so that the post itself doesn't become a dissertation 😂)

(Zoe's POV)

How fast time flies! Life in Oasis Springs with little JJ has and is fun, over time he’s made leaps and bounds with all of his learning and potty training. Whilst I helped teach my siblings, it definitely feels different with your own child. Every spill and accident means we’re just that much closer to having him be fully potty trained, which will be a big win for the both of us! We’re working on fluency with colours and letters, and after those are down we can start with bible memory!

With Francisco going off to work during the day, it took awhile for me to get used to being alone when we first got married. After having JJ it made it easier because I could just dedicate all my time to him during the day, my sister Priscilla moved closeby, so we’d see each other whenever we had the time. Now she’s got a baby of her own, we’ve been having to coordinate schedules to see each other. Annette comes down to see Priscilla for some twin time, and while she’s in town she’ll drop in to see JJ and I. It’s great getting to hang out with my younger sisters and being able to invest in their lives and keep our sister bond strong. Annette isn’t married yet and has no one she’s interested in, so she keeps herself busy with babysitting for the mothers in our church as well as investing in the lives of others and volunteering at various church camps. When she isn’t doing that, she’s visiting the siblings that are spread out everywhere, soon she’s planning a trip to see Beckett and Mandy out in Selvadorada on a short missions trip.

It’s great getting to sit down with Francisco when he comes home and getting to hear all about his work day. Obviously there are loads of things I don’t understand about his work with the military, but he’ll tell me what he can whilst explaining the complicated jargon. Sometimes he’ll get sent on short training expeditions out into the desert which have me worried sometimes, as you never know what can happen out there, but he always reassures me that he’ll be back safe and sound.

I’m still working on my music, I play at our church on the weekends so I’m always looking for ways to arrange the hymnals. In the new year I’ll be teaching at a music camp hosted by my parents church, so I’m working on different pieces for that. I’m almost done arranging a piece for a new recording that I’m doing for a small hymnal EP, so when JJ is doing his extended play time, I’m practicing on the keyboard that is in his room. Sometimes he’ll come and watch me play and is captivated by the music, it’s such a blessing to see his little eyes light up at the sound of music, I can’t wait until he’s old enough to begin learning.

Francisco and I had talked about expanding our little family and were excited to see what the Lord had in store for us, there were 2 or 3 times that I hoped I was pregnant but received a negative pregnancy test. To be really honest, it was very hard to want something and get a negative test result. I’ve spent time calling my mother and having her comforting voice was such a blessing to me during my quite teary phonecalls where I’m sure she could barely understand a word. After seeing my mother have baby after baby every year, and now seeing my sister and sister-in-law have children quite easily, admittedly it was hard to be content in my struggle whilst also being happy for everyone else. There were many times I ran to the Lord in prayer for contentment, and for patience as I wait for what he has in store for me, and it helped calm my heart.

It’s been great seeing Francisco as a father, he’s in love with parenting JJ and being a good example for him. He takes initiative with both correcting JJ and having a good teaching moment, as well as being the fun dad who loves to play outside. He tries his hardest to make sure he can come home and read JJ a bedtime story, but if he can’t make it then I gladly read to JJ at bedtime. 

My sister Annette was over visiting when I felt like I should take a pregnancy test, and praise the Lord it was positive! I’ve prayed and prayed over again for this moment, and now that it’s here I feel overjoyed! Telling Francisco was the best part, he was so excited for us to grow our family. We took these pictures to announce to our friends and family about our new addition that will be joining us this winter.

With the joys of pregnancy come the trials, and by that I mean morning sickness. I’ve got it much worse this time round than I did with JJ’s pregnancy, meaning that on bad days Francisco has had to step up and do things that I would usually do. Good thing his mother made sure that both her boys knew how to cook and do their own laundry when they were teenagers or else this would be another trial for us to endure 😂

Another new thing I’ve had to get used to with this pregnancy is the size of my belly, with JJ I only really started showing in the 2nd trimester which is standard with your first baby. With this baby it seems that I started showing as soon as the pregnancy test came out positive, and since we know there’s only one baby in here, their positioning is more frontal that JJ was. 

This pregnancy came right on the tail end of our time here in Oasis Springs, Francisco got his new orders and he’s being stationed out at a base near Windenburg! He got promoted right before his time here was done, so we all got to dress up and head to the ceremony, I must say, I love seeing him in his uniform! Living by Windenburg means I’ll be close to my sister Amira who lives there with her husband, I love that being able to move around every 2 years means that I get a chance to see different friends and family more regularly as the years change. When we’re on our way to Windenburg we’ll be stopping by newcrest for Harvestfest with my family, it’ll be so good to see everyone again before we head out to our new home for the next 2 years!

(AN) The accidental irony in this post being military themed wasn’t planned but is unfortunate considering the recent events. This post would’ve gone up on Saturday the 28th, but unfortunately time and circumstances meant I couldn't bring myself to do much for a bit as well as not having access to my laptop. Early on saturday morning I found out that a girl that I knew was one of the marines killed in the Kabul attacks. I’m not in the military, I’m not even American, but she was stationed at the base in the country where I live and were deployed to Afghanistan from here not too long ago. Being a civilian I wasn’t as close to her as some of her fellow soldiers but we saw each other when my friends and I would hang out with our military friends on the weekends, she was truly a kind soul and her death as well as the others have shattered everyone’s hearts. It’s so jarring having to deal with the fact that a person that you used to see almost weekly is now gone, I jumped back into tumblr as a form of distraction and am hoping this helps keep my mind busy. My condolences go out to all the families and friends of those who lost their lives this weekend, and to everyone affected by these losses, please reach out to get help if you need it. May they all rest in peace.

General Issues

Fixed an issue where Nice or High Quality harvestables would disappear from Sims’ inventories after Travel or Save/Load.

Fixed an issue where Freelancer Career tasks would not complete after Sims would Travel.

Fixed an issue in which the game would jump to Ultra Speed randomly when some Service NPC, specifically Maids, were on the Lot. Talk about speed cleaning!

Photo frames used within Gallery Uploads would not retain their chosen color once those lots were downloaded from The Gallery. They’ve been properly chastised and will listen to you now.

Freelancer gigs can now complete and/or update accordingly while on Vacation. So if you want to work while you vacay I guess you can now. Sucker.

Fixed an issue where two “Tuck In” interactions were able to be selected when Children slept on any bed.

Sims that were seated at a 6 seat round table can now clean up the dishes.

Child Sims will now be able to enjoy Quick Meals again!

Fixed an issue where Sims didn’t write a genre book when “Write Genre Book” was selected.

Multiple duplicate interactions should no longer appear in pie menus when you have certain objects in your inventory.

The Jet Set Luxury Bath was listed as being Unbreakable when but Sims took that as a challenge and broke it. It has been recalled and fixed so now it truly is unbreakable.

Speaking of Unbreakable, we fixed an issue with Hot Tubs and Stereos where unbreakable upgrades would not work if these objects were in use when upgrading them.

Fixed an issue in which some Sims could stand on, or walk through solid objects.

Adding a Sim to an existing household via the Create a Sim Stories feature will no longer subtract Simoleons from the household.

You can now extinguish a fire, even if the fire is within another object.

Sims can now Scrap the unfinished paintings of visiting Sims

Light intensity will no longer reset when setting Auto Lights options

Fixed an issue which made the item Tiny Globe & Sycee of the Prosperous Moon appear twice in Build Mode

Half Wall Trim can now be applied to half walls on all levels of your lot

Fixed an issue that caused Lots downloaded from The Gallery to be placed backwards and not being able to rotate them to an appropriate view

Households downloaded from The Gallery should now have their starting funds set to the correct amount, and not just the base 20,000 Simoleons

Child Sims will no longer receive Whims related to workouts

Walls no longer disappear when Taking a Photo in a Basement level room that does not have a staircase

Fixed an issue in which Hygiene was not being resolved when Taking a Shower on any Bathtub and Shower Combo

Bookshelves will no longer have the option to purchase University books if you do not own Discover University

Sims will no longer flicker on and off the landing pad, when in the Rocket Ship using the WooHoo or Try for Baby interactions

Sims in the Supreme Villain career working on the mischief interaction task can now use the Slablet to Troll the Forums to complete the task

Small rugs can no longer be placed over the cutouts created by stairs

Caterer Sims will now be able to make a Cake and complete their Party event goals

Some example interactions that were reported: “Play Fetch”, ”Give Potion”, “Blackmail”, “Scan Here”. The LastException related to this issue should also be fixed.

Still not sure a stereo and hot tub are the best combo from a safety perspective

Specifically Baby Bassinets…

This could occur if a large object caught fire. You would have to wait until the fire spread outside the bounds of the large object in order to extinguish it.

Artistic types can be so rude, just leaving their unfinished work for you to clear up

Get Together

Toddlers will now route appropriately when selecting ‘Plan Outfit’ on Closets. Well, as appropriately as those slow little Sims move anyway

Get To Work

Aliens will now display selected options for Eyebrows and Beards accurately in Create A Sim.

Fixed an issue where Scientist Sims would record their findings in Notebooks twice.

We addressed an issue that could prevent Sims from not being able to ring up customers who attempt to purchase from the warming rack.

Some boots, along with the Sims feet, were disappearing when the camera was zoomed all the way out. This should no longer occur.

The “Refer for Surgical Treatment” interaction is now available on surgery tables that have had their color altered with the bb.enablefreebuild cheat.

Oh wait, now I see where they picked up that habit.

City Living

There were a number of confusing situations that arose as a result of Invites your Sims would receive. In some cases these would appear as two invites for the same event, one that was the “hey, I just wanted you to know” invite, and the other would be the real invite.

Sims with the Shrewd reward trait weren’t as shrewd as they thought they were. We have restored their shrewd’ness and they should now actually receive the money they so rightfully shrewded away at the end of each week.

Fixed an issue in which some shirts in Create A Sim would not tuck in appropriately into skinny jeans.

Some Sims just want you to know that their invite was coming by sending a pre-invite I guess.

We blame it on bad investments, the cd market apparently didn’t mean compact discs.

Seasons

Sims can now complete New Year resolutions on any lot, and not just their home lots.

The Lottery Holiday is back in your calendars! It should not be a surprise disappearing act any longer.

Solved an issue with swimwear that made it display incorrectly and no one wants a swimsuit malfunction!

We spoke to the Holiday Gnomes and they have agreed to stop dropping seed packets if your Sims are not on Lot when the Holiday ends.

Fixed an issue where Weather would affect items inside buildings.

Flower Bunny’s contract has been renewed for them to appear on any Holiday or Tradition that they are scheduled to.

Mandrake and Valerian Root plants are now able to be planted indoors when it is Too Cold if Simmers have Realm of Magic installed.

Holiday Gnomes will no longer break Unbreakable objects when having a negative relationship with them.

The pedestal gnome will no longer spawn as part of the Harvestfest gnomes tradition.

They wanted to spread holiday cheer… or they were attempting to bring about the end of Simanity, and usher in a new world order. Tomayto, tomahto.

We don’t know what was done to make them angry, but even as magical as they are, they should not be breaking the Unbreakable.

Get Famous

Married Celebrity Sim Couples will no longer React in Disgust with each other then they enter the same room.

Household members will no longer react to members with Pristine Reputation every time they travel together.

Fixed an issue that caused Recording a Product Review to fail if the Sim had previously interrupted a review by traveling to another Lot.

The Well Suited and G.R.A.N. talent agencies are back in business! Gigs from these agencies will now display appropriately.

Super Speed 3 should now work when Sims sleep in their Sleeping Pods and have a pet.

Actor Sims can now Check Open Auditions properly when returning from Work. Get that bread! Be a starving artist no more!

Sims’ Acting Gigs Career Panel will now get updated properly on performing tasks. Credit for your work? Imagine that!

Island Living

Fixed an issue where Odd Jobs tasks were not able to be completed.

Fixed an issue where Conch Shells were not able to be put in Sims’ Inventories.

Sims can now see their recorded findings in the Notification Wall when performing “Examine Water Thoughtfully” on the Fishing Board.

Released Fish will actually be released back into the water and not be stored in Sims’ Inventory.

Discover University

Sims will no longer be accused of cheating on their coursework or homework if they don’t actually cheat.

Term Presentations should not have missing interactions any longer

We addressed some feedback that getting A’s was too easy. Please be aware that your Sim will have to complete the coursework in order to consistently get good grades

Students will no longer autonomously taunt each other about University Superiority unless they’re at the Game Day organization event or have one of these traits: Childish, Evil, Hot-Headed, and Bro

Please be aware that a Sim’s hunger, energy, and bladder motives will no longer refill on their own just before class

Fixed an issue in which Enhancing Utility Bots would get cancelled inappropriately

Roommates should no longer Bring Food home every time they return

Sims can now Turn Off Computer Glasses when moving to other neighborhoods

Attempting to interact with a bike rider should no longer cause your Sim to route fail when performing the interaction

Fixed an issue where Sims did not have the option to “Take Bath with Soaks” and “Take Mud Bath” on Showertubs.

Sims can now again get massages autonomously at Spas.

Dine Out

NPC Sims will now eat more at Restaurants.

Photos taken of Experimental Foods will now display correctly when put into frames.

Food was sometimes not able to be ordered or delivered when the game was exited or reloaded from the Main Menu.

Vampires

“Influence Emotions” interaction will no longer be available to Vampires that have not yet unlocked this perk

Jungle Adventure

Several objects were not properly being found when using color filters. These should be filterable now

Sims in the Freelance careers, including freelance photography, will no longer be able to Wish for Promotion using the Wishing Well

Sims in Conservationist, Educator, Actor, Style Influencer, Military, Critic, Social Media, or Politician careers will now be able to Wish for a Promotion using the Wishing Well.

Since they are freelance, they can promote themselves without wishing for it. They just need to update their business card.

Backyard

Fixed an issue in which some shirts in Create A Sim would not tuck in appropriately into skinny jeans

Vintage Glamour

Addressed several issues that caused the Butler to fail to perform their assigned tasks

Fixed an issue that prevented Butlers to help put Toddler Sims to Bed

The Butler should no longer make food for themselves when they are not hungry

Clothes moved to the clothing line to dry were not getting dry. We’ve reduced the moisture in the air and it should work now

Emotional auras in photographs can now be toggled on/off

Fixed an issue where some photos were taken were a bit blurry when placed in frames in Live Mode

Tripods placed on floors other than 1, 2, or 3, should no longer cause the camera to change floors when attempting to take a photo

Ask to Pose interaction should no longer fail if the Sim attempts to run the interaction from the Open Street

Freelance Fashion Photography Gigs ‘Finding the Essence of Efficiency with Everyday Style’ and ‘Fantastic Formula for Formal Style’ now display the correct information for Pay, Due Date, and/or Required Skill Level.

The Amp Stack now functions as a Stereo, living to its full potential. Rock on!
