Sometimes, it's okay to antagonize one of your older sister's spouses even far into the future. Beef so voluminous it would give you a heart attack if you carved a slice off.

My Shipping Journey
*as a child, me and my brother would scream and cower behind the sofa whenever there was a kiss on the tv *but whilst reading Juvenile Fiction Novels my brother could not see what happened in my mind *I still believed all girls were icky, however, as my brother accidentally taught me (it's not something he believes, just something I picked up from watching him in an unfortunate misunderstanding) *so I never openly got into shipping, but I would privately think, "hey, those two characters are prolly gonna have somethin happen" *I disguised it from myself, saying I was simply predicting where the story would go *but some stories didn't go there and I held on to those "predictions" nonetheless *enter my favorite shows
*Gravity Falls- enormous expectation subversion. I had never read a story where the main characters first crush wasn't his soulmate forever. Several months later I realized suddenly that Wendip would have been super illegal and creepy. I ended up with Dipcif being my final conclusion, although Roadside Attraction was a bonkers episode and confused me SO much. I actually thought Emma Sue was just weird enough to be a great addition to the main cast of the show... only to be completely emotionally destroyed in less than a minute. smh
*Phineas and Ferb- Act Your Age was a beautiful episode, and I would have cried if my brother hadn't been standing directly over my shoulder making gagging noises and pretending to vomit the entire freaking time. This is when I consciously realized that I had learned that all girls were icky from my brother, and I started to break out of that mindset and openly embrace shipping
*The Owl House- several stages happened here. First of them, Grom hit me like a sack of bricks, I never saw it coming, but over the next few months after that, Lumity cured my homophobia *Since Lumity was a thing, that left the other two main characters, Gus and Willow, as a pair as well, right? Right? Wrong. I was a fool and didn't realize Gus was 12. They literally have the exact same age gap as Dipper and Wendy and I fell for it AGAIN. I can't believe myself. *On Disney+, the show just cut off in the middle of season 2. I didn't realize this, though, and thought season 2 was just over on the episode where they introduced Vee. For several months Vee was my favoritest character ever and I would often forget that she even had a sister. I think Vee is my first official blorbo. Since I liked Vee so much, I wanted to ship her (as you do), and since I hadn't noticed the age gap between Gus and Willow yet, I shipped her with that new character who was probably gonna get a redemption arc soon, Hunter. This was my first ever noncanon ship that I knew was never ever gonna happen, which was pretty different from the prediction model I had used up to this point. This marks my transition to the blorbo model of shipping, where you ship characters because you like them, not necessarily because there's any evidence whatsoever. Since I ended up waiting several months for new episodes, I would spend a LOT of time thinking about this ship. I see how ridiculous it is NOW, of course, but it did get me to start calling Hunter by his name instead of passive aggressively calling him "golden boy"
*Amphibia- I started watching this while waiting for more Owl House episodes. Instantly fell in love with Maddie. Instant hardcore Spraddie fan the second they were onscreen together, I was SO into it. I still get annoyed looking at Sprivy, but I've learned to deal with it. Fricken' Ivy. Gosh darn. *I also shipped Marcanne. I very much thought it was going to be outright canon. But when Disney+ cut off with no explanation at the Christmas episode in season 3, I started seeing spoilers drop about stuff, and several little bits of people talking about Sashanne. I started to get a bit defensive about it
*but that's when I realized that the Owl House had also cut off in the middle of the season, and I was blown away that I hadn't realized it earlier. I mean, only ten episodes long, and the last episode really didn't FEEL like a finale, even though it introduced my favorite character ever. Then I checked it and realized that there were six more episodes *Any Sport in a Storm got me out of Hunter + V. I knew it was never gonna be canon, but I believed in it until it got disproven, and I grudgingly resigned to Huntlow as the ship the show was going to push *When The Owl House cut off again I knew this time that it wasn't the end of the season, and I was more wise about avoiding spoilers. I still have No Idea how I managed to go months without getting any when I thought I had finished the season
*Avatar the Last Airbender- whilst waiting for the next episodes, I finally found the time to watch Avatar. I had heard it was really good, I had just never seen it. This is what got me to think about shipping consciously, because it kept subverting my expectations over and over and just really beating me over the head with it. I got EVERY ship wrong in this show. Well, except Aang and Katara, that was spoiled for me before I started watching the show, but if it hadn't been I would have never seen it coming. Even though it's brought up in the very first episode. I'm usually bad at seeing age gaps, but this is the first time I've seen an age gap where there wasn't one. *Now here's the thing- I still used the prediction model for general use, and the blorbo model when I found a blorbo. So here are several predictions in ATLA that I made using the prediction model that freaking sucked: *Sokka and Suki? Ha! You think I'm gonna fall for that? clearly, they will never see each other again. I know that whoever Sokka's ACTUAL girlfriend is will end up turning into the moon, via spoilers! *promptly forgets that Suki exists* *Katara and Jet? Ha! Unlikely, given that Aang and Katara are gonna end up together! *Now Sokka and Tai Lee? That I can get behind! Tai Lee seems real nice, and I would like her to get a redemption arc. That would be real nice to see. *Apparently every girl wants to date Sokka, and I fell for it every time. I was real confused when Suki came back. *Zuko and Mei? Pfft, surely not! This show, thinking it can trick me into shipping this before the REAL ship is introduced later! Comical! *Briefly enters blorbo mode, tries to ship Toph with literally everyone, does not elaborate, leaves *Seriously, though, when Toph said "Sokka, you saved me!" and kissed Suki my brain blew up and somehow shipped two contradictory things at the same time and they were both wrong. "Welp, you can just let me drown now." *Zuko in Ba Sing Se. Goes on a date. I get absolutely enamored with the idea of a foreign prince from an tyrannical dictatorship running away and living life as a normal person and finding love in a tea shop owned by his uncle, and the girl that falls in love with him learns to see him as the person he is instead of the position his family and country put him in, and subsequently he learns to love himself that way too and honestly I loved this so much why the frick was it only in like a quarter of an episode and NEVER BROUGHT UP AGAIN I am so mad. This is when I realized that I am really bad at predicting where a show is going to go. Absolute garbage. I could not have been more wrong about this and it annoys me because I didn't realize until Zuko was dating Mei in season three and it happened OFF-SCREEN so I had NO WARNING and I'm just so salty. *Zuko and Katara. I knew it warn't gonna happen, but dang they really do have chemistry. This was brought up multiple times by the show, and I think they really should have gone that route instead of teasing it over and over. Aang looks like a baby compared to Katara. *Loved the show, I hear there's another one called Legend of Korra that I'll get around to watching eventually. I did not guess a single ship correctly in the entirety of ATLA
*Creates a tumblr account for the first time, after months of scrolling through r/tumblr
*Then I discovered that you can watch Disney shows for free on the internet at Disneynow.com, and it isn't piracy because it's owned by Disney. This was great, because now I could finish The Owl House and Amphibia, except for the finales because those weren't allowed for some reason. I got a youtube TV free trial for those *Labyrinth Runners frickin' beat me over the head again, and I was like "Oh, OF COURSE they wouldn't have anything resembling a straight ship in this show" and I legit thought that I'd been tricked once again and the show WASN'T gonna push Huntlow, it was gonna push Hunter + Gus instead. (Reminder, I did not know that Gus was 12. Apparently I just struggle with age gaps) *I saw the episodes that were getting people to talk about Sashanne, and they made me SO MAD. How DARE Sasha step in when Marcy is out of commission like that! Who does she think she is?! *Finishes both shows, mildly surprised to see that Amphibia didn't have canon ships in the end, but happy for Olivia and Yunan. Briefly wonder, during the finale, if Sasharcy could be a thing
*Finally able to look at the fandoms for my favorite shows, because I have finished the shows and the fandoms won't spoil anything for me anymore *Realize that Gus is 12 *Realize that Marcanne and Sashanne were never in competition with each other and that most people ship Sashannarcy *seeing Huntlow fanart converted me to Winter, and I ship it with the same ferocity I shipped Hunter + Vee in that period of months when I thought season 2 was over *Sashannarcy still feels a bit odd to me, but I can now ship Marcanne, Sashanne, and Sasharcy interchangeably on a dime. *still pissed about Sprivy

hi op what are your thoughts on uhhhh *spins wheel* sasha's season 2b arc (hope that's not too broad a subject)
edit: putting this under a cut bc it got LONG but. enjoy (???)
okay I gotta start by saying I didn't expect the depth of it at ALL; I knew Sash was featured prominently in the ending episodes of s2 based off of what my friend informed me, but like. I was not expecting 4.5 episodes to be almost ENTIRELY centered on their character arc and design (the .5 being the first half of True Colors).
that being said, I think Sash's 2b arc is PHENOMENAL bc of the way the nuance in it is written so incredibly well. this character is about to perform the most antagonistic move that they've pulled in the whole series so far, which is the act of betraying both Anne and Marcy in order to support Grime and get them home safe, if they so choose to go home (as an aside, I think at this point Sash has probably decided that she likes it more in Amphibia than back home, and there's one line that I'll get to that seems to be VERYYYY indicative of that. and if this is the case, it makes sense to me why Sasha would want to help Grime at all and why they don't really seem quite eager to follow Anne and Marcy back home. but! important to note that they still give those two the choice to go back if they wish, because at the end of the day Sash loves them and wouldn't try to force them to stay). and yet we see!! this back and forth!! this FIGHT that's happening in their mind, the way there's a flash of guilt they express at the very end of The Third Temple directly after confirming to Grime that things are still going according to plan, their convo w Anne at the end of The Dinner, the entire plot arc of BotB, and ofc the Sashanne duel in True Colors. I want to make an analysis post for each of these episodes because they're so fucking PACKED w shit to analyze, but I'll try my best to touch on all points here.
obviously we first learn of Sasha's plans to betray Anne and Marcy in The Third Temple. but what's important is that throughout the entire episode, there's several points where Sash switches back and forth between manipulation and honesty. I can talk abt this w confidence just based off of the whole. *gestures vaguely at myself.* but Sasha's initial apology in this episode was sheer manipulation, I think we all know that. however, when Sasha has to do their final test in the temple, those few lines they exchange w Anne in the moments before they raise themself up off the floor and launch themself into battle... those were genuine. they know they've been a shitty friend, and they're willing to accept that. so you have this game, almost, where Sash keeps flipping between putting on a mask to ensure they can keep up their facade until Grime secures the city and genuinely acknowledging their behavior and knowing that what they are doing is not going to sit well w Anne and Marcy.
so with that, The Third Temple sets the premise for the rest of the episodes of the season as far as Sasha's character arc. The Dinner is such a good fucking episode to follow with, because it hammers in the fact that Sasha has not changed. what it ALSO hammers in is she is still acting in her own self-interest - to put it in her words, she wants to get the friendship back under control. they still lash out, they still have a short fuse, they're still heavily opinionated and rough around the edges and prickly because this is an environment where they feel threatened. they're finally reuniting with the two people that mean the absolute most to them, only to realize they've been left out of the narrative. also not for nothing, but their trauma in Reunion got joked about in this episode which led to them blowing up over it, and like. I'm giving that one a pass bc man. anyway. at the end of the episode they say they like who they are, but it's said with a frown, which I think is fucking GENIUS. because there's an actual meaning to this line - they don't ACTUALLY like who they are. we have plenty of evidence that they don't like themself. what they MEAN is that they don't want to change, because that would mean giving up a security that they need in order to keep themself together. AND THIS IS DEMONSTRATED CRYSTAL CLEAR IN BOTB. they literally PURPOSEFULLY detach themself from Anne and Marcy bc they know they want control but they ALSO know that their behavior is just going to hurt the other two, so instead of compromising, they just go hey I'm gonna do my thing and you guys can do yours. and we'll both get what we want. and if that's not evidence that this character is fucking GRAPPLING with how to grow and change as a person, idk what is
and then. sigh. we get to True Colors. ofc Sash goes through on their betrayal - they're loyal to a fucking T once you dig beneath the surface, and they wouldn't just not follow through for Grime. what is absolutely KEY here is the fact that they are still leaving room for their friends' best interests, as in they're not trapping them in Amphibia but rather explaining how they're gonna help Grime take over, implying they'll go back home once they're done, but if Anne and Marcy wanna go back now, that's cool. if she didn't give a fuck abt their wellbeing, she'd just keep them there w her. but she doesn't. and then Anne starts retaliating, and. well. we ALL know Sasha does NOT do well with criticism of any kind. so they just go okay I'll send you back now then (and this is STILL an action motivated by what they think is best for Anne). BUT THE LINE. OHHHH THE SUPER IMPORTANT LINE THAT MADE MY HEAD SNAP UP AND MADE ME PHYSICALLY GO "YIKES" OUT LOUD. is Sasha saying "say hi to your parents for me." it's like a goddamn full-on sucker punch packed into one sentence - seven words, and all of a sudden we know for sure this kid does not have a good home life. I could go into elaboration on Sasha and the way she views familial ties throughout the show, but I won't bc that's gonna take this already super long answer and make it even worse. regardless, Sasha has once again flipped the switch and is indulging in their worst behaviors, which is full on controlling and holding power to act on what THEY think is best in the moment. and the moment Anne snaps, the moment Anne yells about Sasha being a horrible person, literally EVERYTHING shifts and the reaction from Sasha is VISCERAL. and what I mean by that is. it's not just the look in their eyes at those words. it's not just the sudden and complete loss of meaning, of self, of motivation after they've lost Anne's support. it's not just the way they stare at their own reflection in a sword that represents the color of the person they're trying their hardest to protect. it's the way that for the rest of the goddamn episode, they spend it trying to do the one thing they fear the most: giving up control. I'm gonna elaborate on this whole aspect in a different ask bc I was asked abt it, but the way Sasha acts towards Anne after the fallout, especially at the beginning of the duel and during the confrontation w Andrias, is fucking monumental. they struggle so much with how to change their own behavior, yet the very moment they lose the support of the people they've been trying so hard to love and care for in their roundabout way, they can change the way they act. because who the fuck is Sasha Waybright without Anne Boonchuy and Marcy Wu? in her mind, no one. she doesn't have any idea of who she is outside of this, so ofc she can act differently when she's thrown out in the cold. after all, it doesn't take much to warp an identity that doesn't exist.
tldr; god. how do I sum this up. Sash's 2b arc is smth that's incredibly intricate and complex from the way they constantly flip between desperately needing control and feeling guilty that this is the way they need to live. and True Colors is able to finally demonstrate to us the final piece in how they operate - without their friends, they lose sense of who they are, and their personality comes undone. in 4.5 episodes the writers managed to give us 1000 aspects to their character that we hadn't gotten to explore, and we can see that Sasha was never meant to be the villain. so. final review is that's some good shit👍

Fandom: Amphibia
Ship: Sashanne
Rating: Explicit
Au: Wrestling
Words: Glacier, Bronze, Miracle
Notes: Ima be completely honest with you, idk how pro wrestling works, I saw fighting with my family one time. I got wrestling au from a generator and thought “huh, that could work for a sashanne fic” so here we are. Also no beta go cry about it (jk ily)
The air was cold and damp on the September day that Anne Boonchuy started her career. She realized early on in her life that wrestling was what she wanted to do. She was 13 years old when she found the wonderful world of wrestling.
She was in the lunchroom  when she saw a guy Andrias (douchey name) harassing her friend, Marcy. She turned to her only other friend, Sasha, and instantly they knew what to do. Jumping up, they tackled him down to a pulp. They got detention of course, but it was worth it for the safety of their friend.
Luckily for them, the teacher on lunch duty also happened to be the coach of the women’s wrestling team at their school, so overnight Sasha and Anne became the school’s most powerful team players.
Eventually, Sasha, Anne, and Marcy grew apart with Sasha being sent to boarding school by her parents and Marcy having to move away because of her dad’s job, but Anne never stopped working hard on her wrestling.
After a long 2 years of bronze medals, she finally started racking up some wins as her trophy cabinet started filling with silver and gold.
And now, 2 weeks after her 20th birthday, it was time for her to really start her career as Anne “The Beast” Boonchuy!
Flashing back to the present day, Anne woke up ready to start her day. She brushed her teeth, got dressed into her blue workout clothes,  got her hair to a small semblance of normalcy, and said goodbye to her frogs, Hop-Pop, Polly, and Sprig, and her cat, Domino.
She leapt out of her crummy pale blue apartment in LA with the enthusiasm of a dog on crack. She then jumped into her old, faded purple station wagon (with wood siding) she  affectionately named Bessie, and excitedly drove to her first practice as a pro-wrestler.
She did not however expect the face she saw when she got there.
“Anne?”
“Sasha?”
Staring directly at Anne was the blonde girl Anne had spent the majority of her childhood with.
And she was super hot.
Fuck.
Since 8th grade Sasha had clearly worked out a lot more than Anne did. Every inch of her was tan and toned, with her hair tied in a small ponytail that couldn’t have amounted to anything below her shoulders when taken out. She wore a pink tank top, that clearly displayed her red sports bra underneath, and pink shorts that ended right around her mid thigh and clung to the muscles that were built up in her legs.
Anne had no idea how to react. Was she jealous of Sasha’s muscles, or attracted to them? The problems with being a lesbian in sports, ladies and gentlemen.
“Oh my god, girlfriend!! I haven’t seen you in so long!!” Sasha exclaimed, dropping her red duffle bag and pulling Anne into a painfully tight hug.
“hEy…sAsH…” Anne gasped, struggling to breathe as Sasha held on so tight. “bEeN a bIt!”
Sasha quickly realized she held on to tight, and let go with a quick apology.
“So! You do wrestling still?” Anne awkwardly asked.
“No I come here for donuts.”
“Very funny.”
Anne tried to hide her clear anxiety at seeing Sasha again. She hadn’t realized it in 8th grade, but in the years since Sasha left Anne realized that Sasha was her first crush.
“So what’s your name?” Sasha broke Anne’s train of thought.
“I’m sorry?”
“Your name. Ya know, like Anne ‘The Bitch’ Boonchuy or something” said Sasha.
“Actually it’s Anne ‘The Beast’ Boonchuy, but your idea was better.” Anne replied. “What about you?”
“Oh i’m going strong with ‘Sasha The Slayer.’”
“Your old nickname from middle school!” Anne said excitedly
“Nickname? Sweetie that was a title I rightfully earned for kicking asses!”
The two of them shared a laugh as they remembered old times. Then a loud voice over the gym speaker system yelled to the 20 girls in the gym.
“ALLLLLRIGHHHHT LADIES IT’S TIME TO GET OUR WRESTLE ON!!!”
All the girls cheered before the voice continued.
“FOOOOOORRRRR TODAY, We will be having HEAD ON MATCHES Between you. Here are you opponents, IN ORDER OF FIGHT!!”
Everyone cheered before silencing in anticipation.
The person over the speaker said multiple pairings as more and more girls stood off with their opponents. Anne and Sasha eagerly waited before slowly realizing what was happening.
“AAAAAAANNNNDDDD Our LAST COMBOOO!! SASHA THE SLAYER VERSES ANNE ‘THE BEAST’ BOONCHUYYYYYYY!!”
Fuck. Again.
Anne and Sasha stood next to each other, waiting for the other to say something. They didn’t. Eventually, every team had gone (though in Anne’s opinion they all went at a glacial pace) and it was time for Anne and Sasha to fight.
Anne knew she was gonna lose, I mean look at Sasha, she’s fucking perfect, but Anne was more concerned about whether Sasha was gonna actually fuck her up bad or not.
They got up into the ring, and began.
By some miracle (again, Anne’s opinion) Sasha did not in fact kill her.
Anne actually got a couple good take downs in before Sasha tore her strategy to shreds.
————————————————
Afterwards, the two were in locker room getting changed and exchanging some usual post-match banter.
“Seems like I kicked your ass out there, Boonchuy.” Sasha said with a sly yet sexy smile
“Hey I got some good take downs in!” Protested Anne as she slowly realized that the two of them were alone in the locker room.
“Oh no I am fairly certain I won that fight.”
“Only cause I forfeit”
“You forfeit cause you were stuck between my legs and couldn’t move”
Anne smirked “Sounds like a win for me more than for you.”
In preparation to shower, the two of them both took of their shirts, leaving them both in bras.
Sasha laughed and slapped Anne with her shirt. “You are naughty! You’ve changed since 8th grade.”
“What do you mean! I’m still that bushy haired nerd you once knew.” Anne giggled
Sasha smirked quietly to herself “Yeah but you’re like hot now.”
Then there was a silence as the two girls tried not to approach the awkwardness of that statement.
Sasha dropped her shorts and grabbed a towel from her locker. Suddenly, she dropped the towel on the ground.
Both Anne and Sasha reached for it, hands touching it at the same second. They looked up and noticed how close their faces were. The feel of their breaths on each other completely turned Anne on, and there was a sudden gravitational pull to Sasha’s lips that she could no quite describe
After about 20 seconds of silence, both holding the towel, Anne heard Sasha whisper something in a low yet soft voice
“Kiss me…”
Anne leaned in and went with the force that bound their lips together. What started as a soft touch turned into a full french as the passion grew around them.
The kiss was legendary, the kind of shit people write songs and fairytales about. Then it became the shit people like E.L. James write about, full of fireworks like the two had never felt before
They stood up in kisses, eyes completely closed, and fumbled around the room without focus. Anne slammed Sasha into the red metal behind them, closing Sasha’s locker.
Anne then moved on to kissing Sasha’s neck as Sasha felt Anne’s hands exploring new areas of her body. She felt tingles of Anne’s fingertips on her stomach, her thighs, her hips, her hair, anywhere she could imagine. It was an incredible feeling.
Sasha then felt Anne’s hand on her boob, over the pink sports bra. Sasha then felt that the pink sports bra she earlier today thought was the most comfortable thing to wear, now constricted her more than any other item of clothing in the world, and had to be removed immediately. So with a nearly split second movement, it was gone and her boobs were in full display.
Anne played with Sasha’s tits for a little bit, kissing, licking, and sucking them to make her moan with anticipation, then moved on the real prize.
She slowly moved down to the soaked white undies Sash wore. She traced her fingers down Sasha’s chest and stomach, which cause small gasps to release from the blonde woman.
To Anne, this was the most stunning, angelic woman to ever exist. Her skin smelled like lavender and nostalgia as Anne removed her little undies. She kissed Sasha slowly as she gently entered her with two fingers. Sasha moaned through the kiss as Anne’s other hand reached in her hair, removing her hair-tie. Sasha’s short, blonde locks fell to her shoulders, nearly in Anne’s face, not that she cared. All she cared about was the mission at hand.
She felt Sasha was very open and went for the kill. She carefully put her two fingers into Sasha’s hole, trying not to let her excitement get the better of her.
Sasha gasped loudly and squirmed with pleasure as Anne broke off a kiss and bent down.
Anne added to the pleasure by not only moving her fingers in and out, but also using her mouth on her clit.
She made sure to go slow, to ensure the pleasure would last longer, but it wasn’t too long before she noticed Sasha starting to tighten as she moaned louder and breathed harder. She was almost done..
So Anne decided to help Sasha go out with a bang and stretched her hand up real high to reach Sasha’s left boob, making sure to touch her hips and stomach lightly along the way.
Then as she hear Sasha scream “FUCK ANNE!!” She grabbed her tit and squeezed with all her might, feeling (and hearing) Sasha let go to her orgasm. It was so intense she nearly got a concussion from hitting her head on the locker behind her.
Anne rose up and kissed her on the lips. “That good huh?”
Sasha giggled. “Oh hell yeah, but nothing compared to what I’m gonna do to you.” She smirked.
Anne prepared herself for the absolute earth-shattering feeling she was about to receive, and Sasha got to work…
End Notes: it’s 9:30 and I’ve been working on this single one shot for about a week. My ponytail was so crammed into my pillow while writing this I think i’m going to have a permanent indent in the back of my head from the elastic. So anyway I hope you enjoyed!!

AMPHIBIA SEASON 2 FINALE: INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS AND SHIPPING
SPOILERS FOR ALL OF AMPHIBIA PRE-"TRUE COLORS" & SEASON 2B TRAILER
It's time.... I can't believe this is the final week of Amphibia before the hiatus for Season 3. We can cry about that in May, but for now we have some business to get to with Relationship drama!
DISCLAIMER: This is a shipping/platonic interpersonal relationship discussion post for the relationship between all three of the girls. All healthy ships are good ships, but I’m talking from my perspective. This is my own speculation for the show, and what I interpret may not be the crew’s intent. So I’m doing this with the knowledge that there’s a possibility that this is all speculation and not canon.
If no ships at all, or the ship you wanted did not happen in the Season 2 finale, do not blame the artists and creators for such. Many fandoms have done this and it’s possible that it will happen again. Just don’t be those people who ignore the hard work and beautiful storytelling the Amphibia crew have done and just complain to them about not doing the ship you/we desperately wanted. Harassing the crew for telling their story is a horrible thing to do. So please be mindful of that.
I will also talk about both monogamous ships and a potential polyamorous ship (which is WILD that a Disney frog isekai has one of the most potential for LGBT Poly representation). So if you're polyphobic or monophobic, this post isn't for you. (while you're at it block me.)
But let’s get started:
The Polaroid
A recurring prop used to showcase the happy memories of Anne, Sasha and Marcy. We’ve only seen two of the same Polaroid: one with Anne, and the other with Sasha. It's used to showcase the three girls' tight friendship and bond initially on Earth, and I think if Marcy shows hers, it might showcase the angst of her working for Andrias. (More on that theory in my plot speculation post.)
There is no one else to morally ship them with.
Pad Thai shippers, calm down. In a show like this, there would be a dude who came to Amphibia with the three girls and Anne or someone would fall in love with him. But like The Owl House, there is no hetero ship presented with Anne, Sasha or Marcy that aren't Amphibians. The only people we can ship the three girls with are each other, and even then Sasha and Anne's ANGST is too much for a healthy relationship at the moment. Marcy would be the only real potential option for a happy ship with Anne. (Don't attack me Sashanne shippers, just stating the facts on screen.)
"Well, romance isn't the focus of this show!" You're right. Romance isn't the focus, but the show does do romance. We've seen several times with Sprig and Ivy, and Hop Pop and Sylvia. They may not be the centre focus (which is one of the reasons I love this show) but it exists. The show has done romance several times, and if they culminate a romance with [two or all three of the] girls, it would make sense. The potential is there, but will it happen?
Romance Thread
Hop Pop and Sylvia, Joe Sparrow and Bessie, Sprig and Ivy, "Quarreler's Pass" where Hop Pop asks Anne if she has a boyfriend to fill the awkward silence: these are all romance threads/points throughout the season and it makes so much more sense to have them culminate in this finale or at least showcase an idea of further explicit queer relationship, and do the romance in Season 3.
An overarching story with these three girls has been their interpersonal relationships with one another as Sasha is controlling of both of them, and Anne and Marcy try to find their own path and reach their own autonomy. By having Marcy and Anne find themselves devoid of Sasha, they are free to be themselves.
Sasha as a Complex Character
Sasha at the current moment is not ready for any relationship with Anne or Marcy, especially with what we learn about her in “The Third Temple” in using Marcy, Anne and the Plantars to storm Newtopia. She is a major component of angst in the show, and the main conflict to Anne and Marcy's arcs. Especially with the Season “wrapping” up their angst by "Battle of the Bands", but touching on it in several episodes of the season: it seems like it's going to be thrown over to the next season. The Season 2 finale will be somehow more angsty than “Reunion” (which... how are they going to do??) and the Season 3 finale will introduce a sort of distrust arc and denouement of them realising their relationship and dynamics were not healthy. The biggest disconnect in the last episode was Sasha thinking that after she uses them to get into Newtopia safely, she can somehow control this relationship she has between Marcy and Anne.
[You might be wondering: "okay, but if their angst is doubling down this season, why do a big post on potential shipping and relationships?" Because I can and I want to. I'm just very into these adorable teenagers being in a happy relationship as soon as possible (especially if it's not hetero).]
Sasha and Marcy - Hold your horses, this isn’t a Sasharcy segment. I’m talking about the relationship and interactions between these characters themselves.
We haven’t yet seen how Sasha and Marcy interact without Anne there: similar to Season 1 where we knew who Anne and Sasha were in terms of their own characters, but in “Reunion” we saw how their dynamic was and how that played a great influence on the Battle of Toad Tower. I think “True Colors” will delve a little into that with perhaps a flashback.
Another similarity and difference between the two is that Marcy is willing to give up her hyper fixated goal for the people she cares about. We see it in "The First Temple" where Marcy is willingly forfeiting the game to save Anne and the Plantars from the harm of the Temple. While with Sasha, we see in "Barrel's Warhammer" that she is persistent in going through with obtaining the Warhammer, even at the cost of the people around her. In this instance, Percy and Braddock. I definitely think that Marcy and Sasha are two foils while still being similar overall. If Andrias' plan means risking Anne and Sasha, I think Marcy would very quickly try to undo it and help Anne.
One theory I saw floating around was in "Reunion", Sasha forgot it was Anne's birthday, and so she sent Marcy to find her a gift while she distracted Anne with all the "fun birthday" stuff. I think perhaps we'll see some more of that, to showcase their relationships as a second chapter to "Reunion" where we see their dynamics. Or it could just be a Season 3 thing.
Anne and Marcy
Something I really like is a post made by @pyroclastic727. They talk about how Marcy and Anne were other-ing each other when I’m their relationship with Sasha. As much as Anne and Marcy cared for each other pre-meet-up, Anne in Season 1 focuses on Sasha. And of course who wouldn’t? Sasha is a force to be reckoned with, and last such an impression that we were terrified of who Marcy was going to be before we met her. I recommend checking their post here for full context.
One thing I am interested in that will probably be a Season 3 flip is how Marcy and Anne met. They seemed to be friends since they were babies, there isn’t really an understanding of where their relationship started. It could be they were best friends, but they started othering each other once Sasha joined them. But now, they’re high tier solid friends again.
The major thing Sasha isn't accounting for is the fact that Anne has changed and grown over time. She's not the exact same girl from Earth, she has grown and changed. Become better and able to stand up for herself. Sasha and Anne's relationship seems to be more angst driven than it was in "Reunion". (HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE???)
THE ARC OF WOMEN LOVING WOMEN
Now that the general stuff is out of the way, let's dig a little deeper into the arcs of the three girls these two seasons so far.
101B - “Best Fronds” - We see Anne’s relationship with Sasha, and how she manipulates Anne and Marcy to do as she says. I’ll talk about this a bit more in the “Barrel’s Warhammer” section from Sasha’s POV, but this is big stuff.
110 - “Toad Tax” + “Prison Break” - These two episodes tie in Sasha and Anne’s angst for the season. It directly ties in two plot threads that are very prominent in ”Reunion”: “Toad Tax” with Anne’s progression as a character and her connection to the people of Wartwood, while “Prison Break” shows Sasha willing to do what it takes to get back home and find the other girls. This is the main plot of the season 1 finale, where Sasha helps Grimes to get what he wants in order for her and Anne to find Marcy and get home, even if it means killing off Hop Pop since he’s a frog and according to her, he doesn’t matter.
119B & 120 - “Anne of the Year” + “Reunion”
There's so much to unpack here. But this is a major moment in Anne standing up for herself, Sasha's "sacrifice", and the future of their relationship hanging in the balance. This is the main trigger for the Sashanne dynamic, the toxic and angst driven story. The end of Act 1 of this 3 act story.
201A - “Handy Anne”
This is an essential episode. The premiere immediately starts off with mentions of Sasha in the events of the Battle for Toad Tower. In addition to Marcy being mentioned only a few moments later. Clearly Anne isn't over the events of Toad Tower, but she's pushing forward and trying her best to move on positively; especially with trying to find Marcy, her third and final friend sent to Amphibia.
204 - “Quarreler's Pass” + “Toadcatcher”
As I said, the Hop Pop/Anne B Plot in "Quarreler's Pass" where Hop Pop tries to fill the awkward silence by asking Anne if she has a boyfriend is very telling of their relationship. But what I find interesting is as soon as the episode ends with Hop Pop saying, "Now we can talk about Anne's boyfriend again." And he gets shoved off the cliff. We immediately go to Sasha. We could have had any other episode with Sasha, but why the one immediately after discussing Anne's romantic life? We know the show likes to tie in plot threads through A and B episodes, so it's a possibility!
"Toadcatcher" is all about the Sashanne angst from Sasha's perspective. She tries to distract herself with training, but Grimes points to her that she's afraid their relationship will never be the same again. Sasha also reveals that she has been training to protect Grimes, the one person she can count on right now. After the fight with Yunan and making plans for storming Newtopia with a Toad Army, Sasha says, "It's not over between us. Not even close." Which just highlights their angst arc for the Season. We'll touch more on it in the B segments of 217 and 218.
206 - “Marcy at the Gates”
Here's the thing about this episode. We touch on Sasha and Marcy in the F-Wagon, and then we speak more on Marcy than Sasha. Something Anne says in the beginning with Sprig: "Look, Sasha and I might be going through a rough patch, but that doesn't mean I don't care about her." It shows Anne still cares about Sasha, and she wants to continue their relationship in a healthy way moving forward if possible. If not, then it's something she's willing to let go.
The rest of the episode is a Marcanne fancam people. So much love for Marcy, some suspicion of her from Sprig. But in the end, she's loved by all. If you don't love Marcy, you're a monster. A key reaction in this episode is wariness in the fandom: after Sasha, everyone was terrified and unsure who Marcy is and if she had a similar trait. But she’s amazing and a wonderful nerd.
Something I did find interesting in the Rebecca Rose interview that Matt Braly (and creator of The Owl House Dana Terrace) is that Braly said Marcy was the most important key to the whole show: if the audience don't love her in the first few minutes of her introduction, the entire show would collapse. What is so vital about Marcy that would cause the entire story to collapse? Is it the romance or the plot? Is it the overall arc or what?
207 - “Scavenger Hunt” + “The Plantars Check In”
Marcy and Anne episodes, with Anne feeling insecure about Marcy and Marcy feeling envious of Anne's social skills and befriending the people around her. It solidifies their dynamic and doubles down on Marcy being the cutest and greatest character of all time.
210A - “The Sleepover to End All Sleepovers”
This is a heavy episode for Sashannarcy. Although not seeing Sasha since "Toadcatcher" and we wouldn't be seeing her until "Barrel's Warhammer", this episode does good to remind the audience of Sasha's presences and lasting effect on the girls. Anne talks about Sasha as though she still wants them to be friends if possible to continue their relationship in a healthy way.
The episode does more so focus on Anne and Marcy in the sleepover, but Sasha's presence is still very strong, enough that you feel her presence looming over them. It's not healthy, but it's part of the healing process.
210B - “A Day at the Aquarium”
This is where alarms were set off about Andrias. His proposition for Marcy directly after she tells Anne to go with the Plantars back to Wartwood really does create a new dynamic. So far, it seemed as though Marcy really wanted to have her friend around her. She had no one from Earth until Anne came, and it seems as though she can't reveal informal secrets and insecurities to King Andrias or Lady Olivia. It is a real victory to have Anne go with the Plantars to Wartwood, but Marcy is left without her friend and Andrias takes advantage of that. It's still very unclear what his plans with her are, but that's just the other shoe waiting to drop.
214 - “The First Temple”
Marcy is wonderful. We see flashbacks through Anne's perspective as we see Marcy's issue of extreme hyper fixation not allowing her to pay attention to her surroundings. This was in "Marcy at the Gates", but it doubles down here. It even shows in the Temple where Marcy seems to be so into all the trials that she is unable to see the Plantars being squished, burned or smashed to pieces as a result.
I mentioned this as a comparison, but Marcy really does give up all her chances of recharging the Green gem just to save Anne and the Plantars. She gives up her hyper fixated goal just for them. Her extreme presence of empathy and care of Anne and the people who she may not have incredible emotional attachment to is what separates her from Sasha.
215A - “New Wartwood”
Directly after "The First Temple" with Marcanne development, absolutely no one saw this segment coming in hot as one of the gayest ones yet. It is an Anne and Marcy episode with a slight emphasis on Mayor Toadstool. I think I would have seen this episode as solidifying Anne and Marcy's friendship if not for that blush in the beginning of the episode. Marcy geeks out about the swamp Wartwood is built on top of, and Anne blushes at her asking for more info she learned in the town. If Anne and Marcy were "just friends" I don't think Anne would have blushed at Marcy geeking out about frog stuff. The only other times we've seen her blush is when she's embarrassed, and it doesn't seem like that's her emotional state at that moment. You could just brush it off and say its an error, but there's no way that's an error. It went through production and post-production and was locked in! There's no way that's an error!!
216 - “Toad to Redemption” + “Maddie & Marcy”
Not a lot to say here, but this is important. These two episodes are directly after "Return to Wartwood" and a while after "The First Temple". Each segment features Anne and Marcy having their own adventures, and their stories can be separate from one another. In "Toad to Redemption", Anne is helping Mayor Toadstool remain the Mayor of Wartwood and not become the head of the Southern Toad Tower. In "Maddie and Marcy", Marcy is helping Maddie with reviving a pet to life. Both Anne and Marcy are key players this season, but they each play a supporting role to people they didn't really talk to or meet previously in these segments. This shows their independence from one another, and that my friends is the sign of a healthy relationship!
217 - “The Second Temple” + “Barrel’s Warhammer”
Buckle up folks, the Sashannarcy segment we've been waiting for.
"The Second Temple" has a focus of Marcy and Anne, but more specifically Anne since this Temple was her trial. Still not sure of the exact location of the temple, but it's fine. The trials show Anne and how she cares about the people around her, how she is the "heart" of the group, and her growth from Season 1 up until that point. The deep love she has, especially at the end where she gives up charging the gem midway to save her friends who are screaming.
"Barrel's Warhammer"... yikes. This segment is perhaps the biggest insight into Sasha's psyche we've seen. In comparison to Marcy who gives up what she hyper fixates upon for the people around her, Sasha is persistent and attaches her worth to her goal. She does not like failure or losing, and I think that shows in this segment. This shows her absolute fear of abandonment and desire for complete control (which we'll talk more about in "Battle of the Bands") over the situations around her, which causes for unsympathetic actions and negative repercussions of the people around her. This episode (very late into the season) just highlights Sasha's journey further and what she needs to work on. It's not Anne and Marcy for leaving her: it's her. Her tunnel vision is shoving them away.
218B - “The Third Temple” - This episode made me feel so down on shipping. Like it’s a great episode over all, but what it means for the Season 2 finale is... angsty. Sasha fake apologises to Anne in order for her and Grimes to enter Newtopia safely for the invasion. Just as much as she understands she is doing it, her slight look of conflicted feelings at the end of this segment really does showcase how even she is unsure if she should go on with this. Sasha really does not deserve Anne and Marcy, and I think she knows it too.
219 - “The Dinner” + “Battle of the Bands”
The biggest disconnect Sasha provides is that she believes after they get the Toads to invade Newtopia, she can get her friendship with Anne and Marcy back "under control". Which I believe is the friendship they had back when they were on Earth. Sasha didn't realise how much Marcy and, more specifically, Anne had changed in their time in Amphibia. Sasha is really the only person who hasn't changed nor made solid emotional attachments to anyone other than Grimes. Anne and Marcy grew, while Sasha didn't. "The Dinner" just proves that where she is unable to have her feelings of being other-ed in their relationship. I think Sasha's fear of missing out, and not being the centre of their relationship just plays into her "Barrel's Warhammer" insecurities and problems.
While "Battle of the Bands" shows her need to be in control of everything and everyone around her, even with her realising it's very tiring. She doesn't like mindless people (like Toadie) who obey her every command, she likes the challenge of controlling people into submission. Which is very bad, but I think by the end when she plays the song she realises it's okay to let loose with help from Toadie. Even at the end when the three of them lose to Grimes, she realises that it was more fun to play with Anne and Marcy with a silly, heartfelt song instead of making it perfect and winning with a controlled performance. By the end, Sasha is controlling them because she does have the plan to invade Newtopia with Grimes. But this is just the calm before the storm.
TL;DR - I don’t think a relationship can healthily start in the finale, especially with the Sasha betrays Anne and Marcy betrays Anne plots both coming to a head. There’s no way that Sasha is going to be an immediate better person and get into a relationship with Anne and/or Marcy. There is a logic to them starting the relationship, but I don’t think it’s gonna be this season. Instead, I could see perhaps a declaration of love or some kind of coming out scene happening where someone confesses their love to the other. I don’t come to this show for shipping, but there is a logical through line as a connection to the overall story which could culminate in romance.
Either way, lemme know your thoughts and ideas! No shipping wars in the comments please, but do tell what you think? Is it happening? Is it not? Are we going to be explicit in canonising (by that I mean a confession of love or something) or saving it for Season 3? As always, let me know your thoughts!
