#more animated trek pls it's so incredible

The thing about Lower Decks is that it was in fact a love letter to Star Trek as a whole and it shows that in the variety of references and callbacks and tropes they used, but also, and this is crucial, it was a good show all on it's own.

Like yeah it is full of references that are clearly made out of a deep love of the source and not shallow mockery, but on top of that Lower Decks was just a good Star Trek show. It wasn't perfect, I have complaints for sure, but the characters are well written and diverse and funny, the plot is engaging and mysterious and fun, you want to see what the crew does next, you want to see the cast grow and change and improve, you care about the ship!!

You take the references OUT of Lower Decks and it STILL stands on it's own. Lower Decks, at it's best, was never about what Star Trek could do for it, but what new stuff it could bring to the table. Star Trek as a franchise is richer and more complex and beautiful because this show exists. Hell the image for an Orion on one of the wikis used to be a sexualized woman wearing almost nothing, and now it's Tendi, a character that doesn't get sexualized for an easy joke, who wears a full Starfleet uniform, who has friends and family and ambitions and quirks and everything!! That's incredible!!

I don't have the time or the energy to write a full essay on it, but when Lower Decks pulled away from direct references and cameos and reused set pieces and focused on it's own story, it's own characters, and their own unique place in Starfleet and the universe of Star Trek, is when it was at it's best. It doesn't need references to tell a good story, the characters don't have to be related to ones we've seen before or in a ship we recognize or going to planets we've seen a dozen times, they can do their own thing with the tools their medium allows for and it fucking worked so goddamn well!!

Lower Decks deserved so much better, and it should not be boiled down to a show that's just making silly references and nothing else, because it's also one of the most unique Star Trek shows we've ever seen and Star Trek NEEDS new, unique stuff, and I can only hope the possibilities Lower Decks has opened up for Star Trek as a whole get carried on to whatever comes next.

RAMSEY MY BELOVED!! When I tell you I was so incredibly excited to write your matchup I hope you take that at its full value because oh my gosh my brain exploded with all the possibilities here. There’s a couple options I think that could have suited you (because your vibe is incredibly chill and fun so it meshes well with a lot of characters), but in the end I without a doubt had to match you up with...

I swear that this shit is not even pandering because I know you’ve got a soft spot for this man — he is the ideal person for you. And in the slim,, almost nonexistent chance that you don’t want this reliable, lovable, dorky dumbass by your side, I will personally step in to take your place because good heavens is he just incredible.

Denki is loud and energetic most of the time, although he does have his share of mellow and sometimes more serious moments. He absolutely adores being around other people, and that sociable attitude is only emphasized when he’s around his closest friends. If you have a bit of trouble meshing with a group or a specific conversation, Denki will notice pretty damn quick and do whatever he can to make you feel comfortable and/or involved.

And if it’s lovable insults you want, he can and will provide. My man is friends with Bakugo Katsuki and the iconic Kyouka Jiro, so he knows how to take a roast and then jab right back if he so pleases. He’ll call you a dumbass in so many subtle ways that it would almost be hurtful if you both didn’t love each other to pieces (which you do), and the fact that you retort with an even sharper tongue makes him incredibly happy. Oh, and if he ever thinks he’s overstepped a line regarding your comfort zone, he won’t hesitate to apologize sincerely.

Denki is canonically a HUGE music fan. That space in his head that was supposed to be for academic knowledge instead harbors extensive information on pop culture and entertainment, and he loves sharing new things with you. Punk? Rock? Indie? He’ll have a taste of it all in his multiple playlists on Spotify Premium. Man turns up his headphone volume so loud that you’re confused as to how he isn’t deaf yet. If you’re having a rough day, he puts those big chunky (noise blocking!) ones over your ears and kisses the top of your head, tossing you his phone and letting you pick any song of preference.

Y’all have mandatory vibe parties in his dorm room every week. They can last as long as five hours without breaks. FIVE FUCKING HOURS. There’s snacks, you help pick out the songs in the queue, and someone nearly breaks an ankle during a transition from Mom Jeans’ “Edward 40hands” into The Oh Hellos’ “Bitter Water” but it’s all good in the end. He’s definitely a hype man too, so expect to dissolve into fits of laughter at his energized attempts to cheer you on.

Oh, he can also play electric guitar, so do with that information what you will. Just kidding, I’ll help boost your imagination a little bit: him teaching you the chords to a song you love while sitting in between his legs on the common room couch. With his fingers just barely grazing over your own as he guides you through. Send tweet.

I just know he doesn’t have a stable sleep schedule, so prep your night owl ass for some late night dorm sneak-in shenanigans and a few deep conversations to follow it. Do you both sometimes fall asleep on the floor of each other’s rooms at 3 am? Yeah...sometimes y’all share three brain cells combined, but it simply adds to your charm.

You make runs off campus together all the time, too! It’s a known fact around the Class 1-A dorm that you both love volunteering for monthly grocery shopping, but everyone finds it hard to trust the sound decision-making of you dorks after the incident — otherwise known as you and Denki spending a good fraction of the school-provided food funds on multiple random snack brands. ‘It was a one time thing,’ you insist, and since no one else wants to go on the grocery store trek they’re inclined to believe it. Some classmates were more excited about that particular event than others (although Kaminari swears on his vintage record collection that he saw Iida indulge himself on a pack of Pretz), so it’s become a regular thing for students to include a couple snack requests on their shopping list.

To sum it up, Denki makes sure that every day is never completely boring, and his primary payment comes in the occasional glimpse of your smile — and maybe a little kissy if that’s okay (yes, he literally says kissy 😘, istg punch him in the stomach or something he’s so fucking dumb). He’s charming in a stupid, dorky way, but so sincere where it counts that you can’t help but love him at all times. He’d love your ass so much and I just know it in my bones that he’d take care of you, throughout all of the stupid shit you experience together.

Sally Acorn Should Have Gotten Kidnapped More

Whenever there is a polarizing opinion in a particular fanbase I like to try and analyze why because a lot of times the reasons can be a lot more complex than most people think.

This leads me to thinking about Sally Acorn a lot because she’s really one of the characters the Sonic fanbase are most split on. One of the oldest arguments against her is that she’s a Mary Sue and the retort is that the concept of a Mary Sue in and of itself is pretty sexist. I do think there’s an underlying theme of sexism as the term got more popular and got thrown around more often but I think there’s something to unpack here.

A Mary Sue is an idealized seemingly perfect character able to perform tasks better than most with less amount of practice or training. While the narrative problem with this type of character seems obvious, we DO have popular Mary Sue’s in fiction, the most well known one being Superman. An idealized symbol of American ideals able to do fantastic feats of strength and power. Despite the various “darker” takes on the character the one everyone adores is the boyscout who can do no wrong and does no wrong and always saves the day.

The accusation that the Mary Sue title can be sexist is because, despite the gendered variant “Gary Sue” it’s an often times negative label put on overachieving female characters.

And that’s certainly the truth and may be one of the reasons it’s attached to many female characters. But here’s my challenge for that when it comes to Sally. Superman exist in a world that’s able to support his actions without making them look like they’re narratively undercutting those of his supporting cast, from the residents of Metropolis to the Justice League.

I believe the reason why we call them “Mary Sues” and not “Supermans” (ignore times when we do pls) is because the Mary Sue character existed in a Star Trek fan fiction. Star Trek is a series all about complex ideas that might not always have a single right answer, or at least one that’s incredibly hard to obtain. Kirk and Picard were, in their own unique ways, male ideals faced with complicated problems that they often struggled to solve. At times it might have even challenged the very ideals that made them who they were. It’s not a series about being able to complete simple but hard tasks with little effort.

Often times people say the difference between Marvel and DC is that Marvel’s heroes are heroes you can relate to while DC’s are heroes you aspire to be. There’s some overlap on both sides but that’s more or less the philosophy of each company’s characters. If Superman was just plopped into the X-Men or Fantastic Four the way he is as a member of the team people would likely hate him in those instances as well and label him a Mary Sue. Because he doesn’t need other people to solve any issue he faces and being a hero doesn’t encroach on his personal life. His ability to keep the two seperate almost perfectly is one of the staples of his story. Superman doesn’t have as big a problem keeping dates as Spiderman does.

So how does this come back on Sally?

Well I think one of the reasons the character is popular is because she bucks trends. It’s actually the main reason I hear most often in support of her. But it also might be the thing that hurts her the most. She’s a princess but she does stuff, she’s active and isn’t just a damsel in distress. She has a lot of positive traits and very few to no negative ones. She’s a positive role model for girls for sure.

But the issue is that most people, most Sonic fans, see the Sonic franchise as a series that might be closer to Marvel’s philosophy than DC’s. And I think it’s an issue that a lot of the narrative of the franchise as a whole might not be sure which direction to go.

See, most of the Sonic cast members are flawed in some way. Sonic is brash, Amy is overbearing and obnoxious, Knuckles is thick headed, Rouge is greedy, Blaze has a temper and lacks confidence, Cream is naive and young. I could go on but you get the picture.

The characters set themselves up for more personal stories because they themselves aren’t perfect people. But then you have Princess Sally, who is basically this idealized wife character. She’s not only a natural born leader and tactician, but also humble and maternal and can kick ass if and when she needs to and is smart enough to get herself out of most situations without help. But this also swings back in on herself, as the only flaw she has is that she is incredibly underpowered compared to the rest of the cast. One of the only obvious and consistent flaws she has is that she has no powers and is unable to defend herself against a lot of the series villains.

See, the very reason people like her, because she bucks the damsel in distress trope, is the very reason a lot of people dislike her. She’s the exact TYPE of character that needs to be a damsel in distress.

Let’s go back to my Superman example. Lois Lane is a character that gets kidnapped/thrust into danger a LOT. People have pointed it out and make fun of it. But why does she get kidnapped? In the animated series alone the main reason seems to be her own fault. She’s a go getting reporter always willing to walk into the seediest back allies for her next story no matter the danger it might bring her. Sure on the one hand, Superman NEEDS to have the people in his life thrust into danger just as often if not more than random people so the threats feel real when you know your main character can’t be killed. But whenever Louis was in danger it was because of her own volition to thrust herself into dangerous situations. She wasn’t Superman’s girlfriend, object to get his goat. Most people weren’t even aware she had any sort of personal relationship with him outside of newspaper interviews.

She was her own character with a personality just as progressive as Sally’s, but thrust into danger because the type of story she was in needed to be.

But with Sally it’s a lot less fluid. All of Sally’s best traits are social based while everyone else’ are based on physical prowlice. They have good personality traits too but they’re balanced with bad ones while Sally’s isn’t. By itself this isn’t terrible but it means Sally can’t have abilities just to keep her balanced. Even fans of the character agree that her getting a super power would be a poor move. But she also bucks the damsel in distress trope. So her one weakness isn’t capitalized often or is made irrelevant because any trouble she gets into she is capable of freeing herself from. It also creates this strange meta narrative where, in order to keep up with everyone else power level wise she HAS to always be right, know what to do, and have her instructions followed to the letter. And yet her skills are downplayed in the broader narrative because the villains of the series don’t find her important enough to take out.

She’s a character that can’t be looked at too closely. And for many, they don’t! The tropes and trends Sally bucks are enough for find enjoyment and i know what it’s like. Sometimes something is so much your jam that your lizard brain is firing off in all cylinders going “Yeah that’s the thing I wanted!”

I can totally understand that someone might not care about narrative dissonance when what they’ve always wanted is being validated right in front of them and it’s so easy to see. But I see SO much potential in this character if she were tweaked a bit. Going back to the title of this essay, having more stories involving her getting kidnapped is really just one small thing that would have helped her original characterization find balance. But if more people were receptive to a far more extreme twist on her character. A personality that was more balanced like the rest of the cast with abilities that brought her closer to the level of her peers it could be interesting. And it’s something the rebooted Archie comics played with a little bit but didn’t go full cowl on.

Maybe we’ll see something closer to what I’m talking about one day.

Stiles The Pirate

Stiles works at a water park, one day he finds a little girl with dark hair and intense eyes crying and has to help her find her family.

The familiar chlorine-sunscreen-warm pavement smell of Riverwood Water Park is a strange comfort as Stiles walks toward the staff locker room; nostalgia and fond memories always rushed through Stiles when he was at the park. The fact that this would–hopefully–be his last summer working there was both sad and exciting. 

It wouldn’t be easy saying goodbye to the place he’d visited so often with his mom and dad as a kid, the place where he had worked every summer since he was sixteen. Manning Pirate Cove, a scale model of a pirate ship designed for younger children, with slides where canons would be found and a swirling sprayer that moved with the ship’s wheel, had become his favorite summertime distraction. The enthusiasm and joy that little kids unabashedly threw into splashing each other and climbing and fun made Stiles feel joyous by proxy.

Closing his locker in the staff showers, he allowed himself to feel a little melancholy. Graduating and moving on to grad school that was no closer to his dad or his friends was hard. He’d always half planned on coming back to California, but he’d had to wave adios to that plan when a full scholarship offer came in for a program in Colorado.

It was going to be hard to have say goodbye to his coworkers, too. Some of them had been working with him since he started, and they’d grown up together, one summer at a time. They’d shared cookouts and after work meals, then after work drinks and dancing as they became old enough for it. End of season parties, bonfire hookups, summer flings. 

The thought of leaving Erica and Boyd especially filled him with disappointment; they’d been spending their summers together for the last five seasons, and they’d had more than a handful of those s’mores and summer heat-flavored nights. Now, they were the best of friends, speaking often even when Stiles was on the other side of the country and longing for summer and open-skied nights in his adequate but lonely student apartment.

That he would not miss. Even with the personal touches he’d managed to add, a half-sized kitchen, a shower with the water pressure of a jammed squirt gun, and barely enough room for a two-seater couch and a desk with a rolling chair never felt much like home.

Summers at Riverwood, though, that was definitely part of home for him. Permanent chlorine scent, shrieking kids, and all.

What wasn’t normal though, was a crying child. Yet, just inside the gate where he entered Pirate Cove, there was a young girl–around five if Stiles had to guess–rubbing the back of her hand over her eyes, fruitlessly trying to stop the tears spilling from her green and gold eyes. Her long dark hair was escaping from the tight braid she wore, and she clutched at her brightly striped towel like a lifeline.

Stiles pasted on his friendliest, most reassuring smile and stooped down so he was at her eye level. “Hi, sweetheart, my name is Stiles. Is there something that I can help you with? I work here, so if you’re lost, or if something happened that upset you, I can help.”

When she looked up at him, her lip was wobbling and she was taking big, shuddering breaths, but she was obviously trying to get herself to calm down; Stiles was impressed with her control.

“I was pl-playing in the wave pool, an’ then I thought I saw a bunny by the fe-fence, so I went t’ see it, but it was go-one!” she sobbed, getting more upset as she went on. “Then I got lost, and now I can’t find my-my-m-” she started crying again, too much now to finish her sentence, so Stiles put a cautious hand on her shoulder.

“Hey, that is something I can definitely fix,” he said, letting a little enthusiasm into his voice in the hopes that his confidence would reassure her. “Can you tell me your name?”

She sniffed, but gave him a wobbly smile and answered “Tali.” 

“Well, Tali,” he said, returning her smile, “Do you think you could hold my hand so we can stick together on the way back to the wave pool?” At her nod, he stood up, and offered his hand. Hers felt so small in his that he had a moment of panic at being responsible for someone so little. Then reality settled over him and his years of experience with kids kicked in as he rolled his eyes at himself. 

On the way past Pirate Cove, Stiles waved to get Boyd’s attention, glad it was his friend in the lifeguard seat so he could be assured that the kids playing in the Cove would be safe for a few minutes while he returned Tali to her family (the new kid, Liam, he wasn’t so sure about yet; he barely looked old enough to drive, let alone be responsible for children). “Hey, Boyd! I just have to take my friend Tali back to the wave pool. Be right back!”

Boyd waved back, nodding that he’d heard him, and Stiles turned back to Tali, looking down at her with another smile as they restarted their short trek to the wave pool. “Okay, kiddo?” he asks gently. 

“Yeah. But. Did you mean it when you said we were friends?” The sincerity in her voice makes Stiles heart break a little. This kid is just too… something.

“Of course I did! As long as you’re okay with having a friend who still reads comic books and believes in magic,” he replied with just as much sincerity. Those things were true, but in his experience, kids are more comfortable with adults they can relate to a little.

Tali’s eyes go wide and she smiles brightly. “You like comics! Who’s your favorite superhero? Do you like Spider-Man? Do you like werewolves?! How about fairies, do you believe in fairies? I like Tinkerbell, ’cause she builds cool stuff, but she’s a pixie, which is only kind of a fairy.”

Stiles couldn’t help but chuckle; it wasn’t often that he met someone who could talk as much as he did. They were almost to the wave pool, and Stiles started looking for a family with dark hair and a frantic expressions.

“Spider-Man is pretty great, but Batman is my favorite, and he’s kinda like Tinkerbell, right? He invents lots of stuff. Though he’s definitely not a pixie! I think werewolves are awesome, though, it’d be so cool to meet a werewolf, don’t ya think?”

Tali laughed, and it was the best thing Stiles had heard all morning; he couldn’t stand to see kids crying. “Batman would look silly dressed like Tinkerbell!”

“Ha! Yeah he would! Hey Tali? Do you remember where you were-” before Stiles could finish asking, the most attractive man Stiles had ever seen was rushing towards them, calling Tali’s name.

Tali let go of his hand and launched herself into the man’s open arms, a muffled cry of “Da-” disappearing into a strong shoulder. Stiles couldn’t help but notice the flex of the muscles in the guy’s tanned arms, or the dusting of dark hair that seemed to have been placed just-so by an artist on every perfect inch of him.

“Where have you been, peanut? I was so scared when I couldn’t find you!” The man’s voice is surprisingly soft, and he’s rocking Tali back and forth slightly as he cradles her against him. It’s almost too much for Stiles to bear watching, and it makes his heart beat out of sync; a strange and overwhelming sense of want settles in his belly, but he isn’t sure what it is for.

Tali begins to explain about the bunny again, a slight tremble in her voice as she pulls away from the man’s shoulder, small hands resting on either side of the guy’s neck. Her voice gets less wobbly and more animated as she continues “…An’ then my friend Stiles found me, and he brought me back! He works on a pirate ship, and he likes comic books, and he thinks werewolves are the coolest.”

The man looks up then, as if he’d only just realized he was standing there, his face doing something complicated as his (incredibly beautiful) eyes trace Stiles’ shape quickly. “Sorry, I- Thank you so much. I don’t know what happened–one minute she was right there–I must seem like a terrible-”

Stiles can’t let the poor guy continue to beat himself up. “Hey, no, it happens all the time, there’s a lot going on here, kids get distracted.”

“I really can’t thank you enough, uh, Stiles, right?” he asks as though uncertain he’d heard Tali correctly.

Stiles laughs lightly, “It’s a lot easier to say than what’s on my driver’s licence.”

“Stiles the pirate,” he says with a smile that makes Stiles’ heart and his breath speed up. He offers his hand and introduces himself with “I’m Derek.”

Taking a deep breath to make sure his voice is steady, Stiles takes Derek’s hand, mildly shocked at the electric feeling that rushes through him at the contact. “Nice to meet you, Derek.” Stiles feels Tali watching him, and he glances at her to find her head tilted and her eyes moving between him and Derek thoughtfully. He reluctantly slides his hand from Derek’s, vaguely aware he’s been holding it for longer than strictly necessary, and turns toward Tali. “And you, Ms. Tali, it was great to have someone to talk to about superheroes; most of my other friends don’t like them much. 

Tali beams at him and sticks out her arm to shake Stiles’ hand, which he takes with a dramatic bow that makes her giggle. When he straightens up, Derek is looking at him with a softly awed smile and eyes that are positively sparkling. “You’re silly,” Tali teases, “Can you play with us a while?”

She’s looking at him pleadingly, a slight pout and eyebrows pushed up high on her forehead for maximum cuteness. Her brows aren’t newly as impressive as her dad’s, but it’s enough to make him want to skip work. Derek’s face is doing a pretty decent job of mirroring Tali’s, and that is just wholly unfair.

If Stiles is looking at Derek more than Tali when he says “I really wish I could,” he can’t really be blamed. He manages to get it together to direct “I have to get to work now, kiddo,” at Tali. Both Derek and Tali seem to deflate a little, and Stiles feels strangely guilty. He blames the eyebrows. 

Derek rubs the back of his neck, balancing Tali in one arm, his eyes looking down at their feet for a moment before catching Stiles’ eye. “Maybe, uh. Maybe we can come and get a tour of your ship?” he asks hopefully, his ears turning a pleasing pink that has nothing to do with the afternoon sun. Stiles wants to taste the blush, see what else he can do to make it happen.

Tali excitedly asks, “Oh! Can we, can we, pleeease!” and Stiles feels his own face heat–thinking about what Derek’s skin feels like while he’s holding his kid, while he’s at work and surrounded by kids, is beyond inappropriate. Get it together, Stilinski he mentally chastises himself. Getting caught up in Tali’s wiggly excitement lets the heated mental images dissolve, and he can’t do anything but answer honestly, “I’d like that very much.”

Derek thanks him again as they part, and Tali calls “See you soon!” over Derek’s shoulder as they walk away. Stiles waves back, then has to actually shake his head to clear it before he heads back to Pirate Cove.

Boyd waves at him when he gets back, and Stiles goes to update his friend on what happened with Tali–and to talk about Derek a little. It’s a relatively quiet time at the Cove, lunch time usually is, as most families take the time to eat their picnic lunches or brave the lines at the food stands. Stiles is grateful for the fact that they only have half a dozen or so kids, instead of the twenty-five or so that they usually have, which is the upper limit on the number of kids allowed–and a lot to handle all at once. Stiles loved it though.

As he and Boyd caught up, pausing occasionally to warn kids about running, help fill buckets under the plank’s water spouts, or check in with the attendants on the other side of the shallow pool surrounding the ship, Stiles found his mind wandering back to Tali and Derek.

Was it ridiculous for him to hope for what could only be a summer fling with a guy who has a kid? Was it irresponsible to start something, if it was even an option? He’s pretty sure Derek was flirting with him, or at least was interested in flirting with him. And when they had touched, it was like every romance novel cliche about ‘electric contact’ suddenly made sense.

“Oh man, Stiles, you got it bad my friend,” Boyd teases in his quiet way. 

“You know me, when I fall, I fall… Only. He’s got a kid, and she’s amazing! Funny, and bright, I think she might talk even more than me! But she’s like, five. It’s not fair to just jump into a kid’s life like that. I’m leaving for Denver in two months. Plus, it’s not like I’m great with not getting emotionally attached; it’s not good for me to jump into something that can’t last either.”

Boyd hums his agreement, being well acquainted with Stiles’ tendency to dive in head first. “Sometimes, things work out,” he says sagely, looking slightly over Stiles’ shoulder with a wide grin.

Stiles turns around and finds himself flailing to stay on his feet as his legs are tackled by all forty pounds of Tali. Luckily, Derek was right behind her, and then he was right next to Stiles, catching him before he could wipe out and end up ass first on the unforgiving concrete. Stiles feels hot where they’re touching, his back half pressed against Derek’s very firm chest, Derek’s arm wrapped low around his waist. Stiles feels like he’s burning up. He might need to have Tali hose him down with one of the water canons…

Thankfully, Tali giggles then, again pulling him out of his thoughts. “Oops! Sorry, Stiles!”

“No problem, kiddo,” Stiles laughs, patting her hair and stepping away from Derek, missing his heat despite the warmth of the sun.

“It’s a good thing Uncle Derek caught you, or you coulda fallen down!”

“Yeah it’s a very good thi- Uncle Derek? I thought-” Stiles looked back and forth between Tali and Derek rapidly, processing the new information.

Derek huffs out an apologetic “Yeah, Tali’s my older sister’s kid. I love her lots,” he says, ruffling Tali’s hair and pulling her against his side, “But her mom’d be pretty mad at me if I tried to take her back to Boulder with me.”

“I bet. Though, it’s probably hard to say goodbye, right? I mean, Tali is probably the coolest kid I’ve ever met.” Stiles grins at Tali, gratified to see that she’s positively beaming at him.

Boyd clears his throat loudly, and Stiles hears the unspoken “You missed something, pal” in the sound. Stiles thinks back a couple seconds to find what it might be, and “Oh! You live in Boulder?”

“Yeah, I’m just here for the summer, visiting Tali,” Derek smiles, looking slightly confused about why Stiles is excited about where he lives, eyebrows quirked in amused concern.

Stiles can’t believe his luck! Two out of three of the obstacles in the way of a potential relationship with Derek are not, in fact, in the way at all! “That’s funny, I’m moving to Denver for my Masters in Criminal Psych in August.”

Derek smiles one of those eyes-scrunched-and-sparkling smiles that Stiles thinks he might become addicted to. “I’m at UC Boulder for my PhD in History, we’re practically neighbors.” Stiles is pretty sure he imagines the flirtatious tone in Derek’s voice, but he doesn’t care.

Tali pulls on Stiles’ arm, forcing him to tear his eyes away from Derek. Again. “Can you show us the pirate ship now?” At a look from Derek, she adds “Please?” and Stiles can’t help but laugh. He and Tali are going to get along just fine.

“Yeah, let’s go see the ship,” Derek starts before Stiles can answer. “Then later, maybe Stiles would like to have dinner?” Derek looks at Stiles hopefully, and if he had even been entertaining turning Derek down, that face would’ve changed his mind.

“That sounds great, I’m done at 5 o’clock” 

Derek smiles again, or his smile grows, really, and Tali adds “We can get hot dogs!” 

“I love hot dogs,” Stiles says, because he really does, but also, if he and Tali are going to be buds, he should remind her of the things they have in common. If he and Derek make it to an actual date, he thinks having someone with such good puppy dog eyes will be very handy.

Derek laughs, and it’s a great sound. “Sorry kiddo, I promised your mom I’d have you back by four.”

Tali pouts and looks so put out that Stiles stifles a laugh. Instead, he says “Hey, Tali, next time, we’ll totally go for hot dogs, okay?” 

She looks contemplative for a moment before nodding her agreement and taking him and Derek both by the hand, marching them toward the pirate ship. Derek looks at him over Tali’s head with an amused smirk “Next time, huh?”

Stiles lets a grin spread across his face. “Yep.”

“Good,” is all Derek says, but it sounds like a promise.

it wasn’t like angst and it isn’t something i’d ever feel comfortable linking to other people. it’s the kind of fanfiction i think would cause other people real emotional harm if they didn’t fully know what the content was. i often can handle kind of awful stories but this one really pushed my boundaries and made me feel a bit sick. it was a chara based story, though, so if you really want you can comb through their AO3 tag and eventually find something like that.

forests are awesome - they are green and smell amazing, you can spot a lot of wild animals and the atmosphere is very serene and calming. I’ll always pick forests over beaches, unless the beach is all sand or small round marble stones, the water is clear without the detached, rotting algae stuff that floats around and ew, the sun has fucked off so I don’t get sunburnt (my skin always skips the tan stage right to red and I prefer pale skin anyway) and all sweaty and shit, there are NO people beside those I’m there with and I do NOT spot any animal while in the water that’s bigger than like 5cm. Because even though I love and respect it deeply, I’m genuinely afraid of sea life, I don’t care that there are lots of totally harmless creatures. …lmao, I feel like a rich asshole saying all that - way too many demands. (sorry sea/ocean, I love you, but you freak me the fuck out)

I have dogs, but I love both. With dogs, the love is more likely to be returned though :D

Madame Bovary. I think The Great Gatsby was boring too. I don’t usually read books without researching it a bit before so I can somewhat predict whether I’ll like it or not. 41) If you could travel anywhere, where would you go? A trip visiting as many historical sites as possible, mostly in South America and Europe I think

42) If you had any job in the world, what would it be? It would be so fun to be a voice actor

43) If you were granted three wishes, what would they be? 1) No more discrimination of any kind in the world 2) The ability to go to any fictional world at any time 3) To get the kitties I had to let go back

45) What was the first fandom you were hardcore dedicated to? and are you still? ATLA. Take me back to the days of scouring the internet for new amv’s (mostly zutara ones cough cough) AND YES I HAVE SOLD MY SOUL TO BRYKE AND I DON’T WANT IT BACK
