Par For The Curse - Issue 3

Okay.  

You all need to forgive me for first of all, being a little late with an update this week, and second of all, not being as thorough as I usually am.  We’ve had some big stuff going down and I mean… processing it all has been a lot for me.  I can only deal with so much.  

First and foremost, because everybody who’s anybody was at the Leaky Cauldron the other night for Lady Lindzay’s Divination Extravaganza (there was also a band but honestly, I don’t remember anything about them because OMG LADY LINDZAY!!!), we need to discuss what an amazing and absolutely LIFE. CHANGING. EXPERIENCE that was.  Seriously.  You must be living under a rock if you didn’t hear what happened during my reading, but i’ll go ahead and spoil you, readers.

I got to talk to Lavender!  

My BEST friend in the entire world legit POSSESSED Lady Lindzay for a whole ten minutes and gave me ALL the hot gossip from the afterlife.  I don’t want to upset anybody (or get fired, obviously) so I can’t post any of it here, but I mean… talk about unexpected pairings holy crap.  Okay… ALL I’ll say is she told me the hottest ship right now?  Fredric.  Right?  RIGHT.  Yeah.   

To everybody who thinks divination and fortune telling is bullshite, I dare you to come say that to my face after last weekend.  Also, keep donating to the Lav fund, she was crying when she told me how happy it makes her that we’ve made such a difference in the lives of all these unfortunate looking young witches and wizards.  

Anyways!

If you didn’t come, you definitely missed out on a night to remember!  We can start with whatever the hell the argument between Millicent Bulstrode and Astoria Greengrass was that had Astoria stomping her foot and throwing some admittedly savage (but honestly quite rude) burns towards the newest Harpie, and Bulstrode looking as if she were about to blow a gasket and revert back to her old ways and knock Greengrass out.  By the time I got close enough to find out what the whole fight was about, Astoria was drinking herself into a stupor at the bar and Millicent was being removed from the premises by Theodore Nott. 

Daphne Greengrass made a brief appearance, though whether it was to check on her baby sister or threaten Draco Malfoy, I’m not quite sure.  Either way, she was gone as quickly as she showed up, and Malfoy ended up leaving with her sister.  I don’t know about Daphne, but if my sister was drunk out of her mind drinking alone at a bar, I wouldn’t be leaving her alone with Draco Malfoy of all people.  

Noticeably absent from the Leaky Cauldron event was Blaise Zabini, but don’t worry, rumor has it he was in Wales at the Holyhead Harpies party thrown by their newest sponsors Goodwash Cosmetics.  I’d say he was waiting for Millicent Bulstrode, but she didn’t show up until almost one in the morning, and on the arm of Theodore Nott.  Ginny Weasley was definitely there though, maybe they were catching up after that hot gym sesh a few weeks back?  

The youngest Weasley is definitely no stranger to the party circuit these days.  We spotted her out with some Harpies, Harry Potter and May thru October of the hottest auror of the month calendar as well.  Not sure where the logic is behind that grouping, but my sister was the Ravenclaw, so I’ll leave that to her to analyze if anybody wants to give a guess.  

At least Harry’s been getting out more.  He and Hermione Granger were spotted at a muggle bar trying to get each other laid.  I think you two should just knock back a few firewhiskeys and go to bed together, see if anything comes out of that pairing!

Speaking of former Ravenclaws… some sad news to report.  Morag MacDougal and Stephen Cornfoot have decided to take a break after some rumors from her hen party at the Obscurus got a bit out of hand.  Here’s hoping the two of them can get over whatever their differences may be and get that happily ever after, after all.  

Also, is Luna Lovegood sleeping with George Weasley?  Both of them have been suspiciously MIA lately and I don’t know how else to explain that.

Happily Ever After is also what I’m supposed to be getting with one Falmouth Falcons chaser Marcus Flint, and yet I’m getting reports of him and Pansy Parkinson taking a portkey from Diagon Alley with bags packed for a vacation?  What gives?  Then again, my source for that piece also said they spotted my dear twin Padma Patil on a coffee date with Greg Goyle and noted that she had definitely dressed to impress.  None of my clothes are missing and Pads has been super busy with her big medical breakthrough thing that just got approved so I seriously doubt that was true so maybe I should just get better sources, yeah?  Yeah.

I promised big news though, and none of this is it.  It’s not Charlie Weasley outside Demelza Robins’ window pretending to be Lloyd Dobler (look, I made a muggle reference!), and it’s not Astoria Greengrass having drinks with Blaise Zabini either.  

Well, it does have something to do with Zabini.  Something to do with him, Greg Goyle, and Draco Malfoy.  As of late, all three of them have been sporting scars indicative of having taken an unbreakable vow.  As we all know, if somebody who’s made an unbreakable vow breaks their oath, they die.  I’ll put up 100 of my own galleons to whoever gets Malfoy to spill the beans first.

“Miss Parkinson would you please escort your house out first.”

“Look all the Slytherins are deserting!” Someone shouted.

Blaise Zabini gives a disapproving look and walks ahead.

Millicent Bulstrode has look of horror on her face and moves away, as wands are pointed in their direction.

Theodore Nott stands in the back of the crowd as the events unfold.

He watches Daphne Greengrass grab her younger sister, Astoria hand tightly and motions for all the younger students to gather and follow her.

He sees Draco Malfoy apparate in amongst the confusion, grab Gregory Goyle and Vincent Crabbe. They sneak off to an unknown destination.

Theodore turns and walks in the opposite direction of his housemates, but remains in the Great Hall unseen.

He locks eyes with Susan Bones.

They became friends. during fifth year while in the Infirmary, bonding over apparating mishaps and sleepless nights. Susan had been in the care of Madam Pomfrey after splinching her leg.

Ernest Macmillan asks Professor McGonagall what if they choose to stay and fight.

Megan Jones, Wayne Hopkins, Oliver Rivers, and Roger Malone from Hufflepuff stand their ground.

Sue Li, Lisa Turpin, Morag McDougal, and Mandy Brocklehurst look on defiantly.

Fay Dunbar moves besides Parvati Patil and Lavender Brown.

Professor McGonagall gives orders and the rest leave the Great Hall.

Theodore remains alone.

“And here I thought we belonged in the house of self-preservation. Still doing things all by yourself I see” says a familiar voice. That someone is Tracey Davis.

Coming behind her was Hestia Carrow with several younger students. Two sixth years, a few fifth years, and couple of fourth year students.

“We couldn’t dissuade them from leaving.” Tracey shrugs.

“We understand, it our choice they say.”

Theodore looks towards Hestia who is wearing a medical apron like Madam Pomfrey. He remembers she had an apprenticeship in the infirmary her sixth year. “Where is your sister?” the younger Carrow twin smiles.

“With Fluffy gathering reinforcements” she says. He wonders who or what “Fluffy” is.

“Take off your robes and ties.”

A sixth year named Sylvia Melville wraps her tie around her wrist. “So you know who’s in our group.”

The others do the same. Discarding their robes.

Theodore had made his choice long ago. He knew the risks and consequences. He managed to returned to the school undetected and hidden by the school librarian Madam Pince.

The year before during Christmas holiday he refused the Dark Mark and vehemently opposed against joining the so called ranks of Voldemort.

As Theodore told his father “he’d rather roll around in mud than be surrounded by pure shit.“

The elder Nott enraged and embarrassed gave him an ultimatum. When Theodore wouldn’t concede he denounced his only living heir and family.

“you are no longer my flesh blood and must be stripped of it’”

Which resulted in having his back flogged and ripped open. Near death, Theodore was thrown into a shallow grave.

He managed to survive the ordeal, with the bottle of Felix Felicis. Walden McNair took a strange pity upon him, was present at the scene and was left to cover the grave, proceeding. Subsequently buried alive Theo managed to dig his way out. Theodore Nott was essential for a lack of better term “dead to the world”, but he had to go back, he promised.

“Do you really understand?” This is not like dueling club or pulling pranks. No one can guarantee your safety. These people do not care that you are children, their intent is to kill all who opposes.

“I do understand”

Poonima Shah, a sixth year student. Who would later be revealed as the daughter of Benjy Fenwick and goddaughter of Emmeline Vance.

“I do”

Sylvia Melville. She was the cousin of the youngest Montgomery child that was killed by Fenrir Greyback last year.

“I do”

Mafalda Prewett. One of the last remaining members of the House of Prewett. The cousin of the Weasley siblings who were already out front defending the castle. She snuck back into school after miraculously escaping the Misty Dell in the Forest of Dean.

Theo smiled to himself,

I have friends in Slytherin, they’re not who you’d expect but they’ll be yours as well. Susan said once.

“I’m here! I’m here!”

It is Daphne Greengrass running towards them seemingly out breath.

“I had make sure all the younger ones who aren’t able to fight were out safely. Everyone is gather at Hogsmeade. “Did you know there’s a secret room” -

Are you sure about this Greengrass? This isn’t something you can decide lightly. Your family’s position -

“I could see them! -

I mean I saw them!” Her eyes widened

There are Dementors, giants, trolls, and Merlin knows what else! Voldemort did not gather them all just for one person!

A portrait commands the group to stop. It is Phineas Nigellus Black.

“As I said before we Slytherins are brave but not stupid, if given the choice, we will always choose to save our own necks.”

I am not you, we are not you and we are not just Slytherin. There is something you are forgetting Professor Black. This is war and it merciless, cruel, and ugly. and now it’s coming to a head here at this school.

“No, they are not here for one person. That is very naïve way of thinking. The witches and wizards that are gathered outside under Tom Riddle aim to kill all who oppose, even those who are hesitant.”

“They have tortured and slaughtered entire families in the First War. What makes you think a castle full of children and teachers makes any difference?”

“I ask you Professor Black how long will it take for them to seek out those who chose to save their own necks?”

Par for the Curse - Issue 2

Okay, okay.  I know all of you are anxious for the latest gossip, but before we get into any of that, can we talk about what’s been on the cover of literally EVERY tabloid for the past two days?  You know what I’m talking about.  That very public kiss between Blaise Zabini and Millicent Bulstrode that they didn’t seem to care if anybody saw.  What does it mean?  Are they official again?  To be fair, they haven’t put a title on their relationship since we were back at Hogwarts (that’s right kids, I know them) but since then they’ve always played the ‘just friends’ card.  Just friends don’t usually make out in public like that, especially when their respective parents were in the general vicinity as well.  We’ll be keeping an eye on these two and be sure to bring you the Bulini updates as they come in.  

Anybody who’s anybody was at the hippogriff races last weekend, antiquated and barbaric as the sport may be (thank you, Hermione Granger, for that firewhiskey fueled lecture at two in the morning during the official after party, we all really needed that after losing our money), the event’s never actually been about the actual race itself.  Everybody knows it’s about the outfits and the tailgating that goes with it!  

We’ll start with the attire.  Florals were in this year, big time, and no surprise that Daphne Greengrass showed up in the latest from the Rosier runway before it’s even available to the public.  Nepotism at its finest at work there, but I honestly can’t blame her. She looked absolutely stunning, and the bright colors did much more for her complexion than the washed out florals her sister Astoria chose to wear.  Both Greengrass girls are stunning, there’s no doubt about that, but one of them came poised to be the center of attention and the other came poised to blend in.  Kind of makes you wonder why Astoria was the one with the crowd of men around her all night long, including Marcus Flint, who apparently didn’t get the owl I sent him with the private invitation to the pregame in our tent, but that’s beside the point.  We’re not bitter about that at all.  

Ginny Weasley came dressed to impress as well, though Gin, it kind of looked like you used Umbridge’s office as your outfit inspo on that one.  I know you must have a huge shopping budget now, owl me, I’ve got you with this.  That, or get your girl Demelza Robins to take you shopping wherever she grabbed her outfit because she was serving a look.  Sure, it might have been to get your big brother Charlie to take her home with him (we hear your mum makes everybody waffles in the morning… and clearly assume you all still live at home with your parents), but that exposed midriff looked amazing, and I’m not just saying that because my dress also had an exposed midriff.  Kudos to the florist to be one of the only girls not wearing flowers as well, I love someone who dares to be different.  Not to mention, watching her and Weasley make out in the stands was a lot hotter than it should have been.    

Besides, as much as we hate to say it, Gin, especially because we know how dreadful he is to date (I still have Yule Ball PTSD, just saying), Harry Potter seems to be anti the ‘flowers-puked-al-over-my-dress’ look as well.  Am I saying that because it seemed like he spent the better part of the night getting completely wasted with my twin sister, who wore a beautiful nude gown that was admittedly a little too formal for such an event (seriously, Padma, I told you to let me dress you for these things) instead of pining after you like he normally does?  Yes, yes I do.  Then again, he did also spend quite some time with Luna Lovegood, who wore the floral sheets I had on my bed when I was nine and a hat that seemed to be made out of loo roll, but that oddly looked… good.  

Do I even need to mention that Pansy Parkinson killed it?  Dressed to stand out without looking like a complete idiot for overdoing it, she was the epitome of class and poise, as always.  Her mother, on the other hand… not sure what that monstrosity on her head was, but kudos to whoever turned it into a hot air balloon mid-race, we about pissed ourselves laughing over it and taking bets on when she’d notice.

Speaking of bets, I suppose congratulations are in order to the Greengrass family, as their Hippogriff Gaits of Hell came in first place and won a substantial purse for those who bet on the 11 to 1 odds. Honorable mentions to second place winner Sunset Serenade and the Weasley sponsored Hippogriff Cactus, who came in third  place.  Side note to Goyle:  I’m not sure why my sister forced me to wager on your Hippogriff, David, but your family should really consider retiring him, he looked to be in a massive amount of pain throughout the entire race, and seemed far too old to have even qualified.

Back to the outfits though, remiss as I am to admit this, it seems as if Draco Malfoy is the only bloke who’s ever been to a derby before.  Gents, we’re well aware of how fit you all look in your dark suits (Marcus especially), but derby day is for pastels, not power suits.  All of you did, admittedly, clean up quite nicely, but Malfoy dressed so well that Hermione Granger apparently considered befriending him, as they were seen watching the races together.  I might have been hallucinating at that one though, because one second it was happening and the next, she was back in the Potter tent.  Noticeably missing from the event?  George Weasley.  Could things be picking up with the mysterious muggle he’s been rumored to be seeing?  We’ll update you as soon as we have any news!

In other news though, Malfoy was seen dining in a private room at Le Gavroche with none other than Daphne Greengrass last week.  I figure Daph heard all those rumors going around about his date night with her little sister and either got jealous, or took him somewhere private to make sure he wouldn’t go near Astoria again.  That could explain why the sisters didn’t so much as look at one another at the derby, even during pictures in the winner’s circle.  Come to think of it, has anybody actually seen Astoria lately?  It’s like she’s up and disappeared to some remote island or something.  

As far as I’m concerned, she can stay there, because as soon as she disappeared for a bit, Theodore Nott came out of the shadows and talk about a glow up.  Marcus, you may have competition.  Or… I mean.  Threesome?

Finally, Congratulations to Morag MacDougal on her upcoming nuptials to Stephen Cornfoot! Not sure why you opted to have Pads as a bridesmaid instead of yours truly, but as long as you throw me the bouquet, we’re even!

THE ROLEPLAY. Swish and Flick is an AU, trio era roleplay. Harry and co. are in their 6th year of Hogwarts.
