personally i think the best hermitcraft season in existence was season 7, like in s7 we get:

decked out 1.0 , voice mod fo rthe first time, helsknight's debut, doc & bdubs divorce, the emergence of doc's GOAT thing, hermit challenges 1.0, turf war, various xisuma skins, xisuma + keralis matching skins, sewer cats, the bamboo lounge, the sleeping turtle, moopop diner, the button 1.0, the podzol party, HCBBS, grumbot 1.0, the mayoral campaign, the attempt of Pacifica, the upside down, the debut of Bdubs' new face, Bdubs' barber shop whose hair cuts stayed for a while!! (keralis STILL has the braids that bdubs gave him)

and maybe some of these things aren't as important for others as they are for me (im a sucker for builds with story and character), but you can't deny that season seven was a starting point for SO many things, and i can't say im surprised that so many hermits want to revisit S7 through new builds or continuing concepts, intentionally or not

You're talking about hermit citizens! I was super into that a year or two ago! (Wow has it really been that long...)

I imagined mine spawning in during the lag spike when the massive chorus tree was broken at the end of the HCBBS countdown, and so having teleportation powers (explaining why I'd still manage not to miss all the stuff going on while no longer being a Watcher) and being able to eat chorus fruit without teleporting, also I headcanon that anything that pierces a chorus fruit teleports so she would be the only one who could chop up a chorus fruit without losing the knife so she'd end up living in Aque Town and working at the MooPop cafe, she might sometimes take a bite out of the purpur since it's technically edible and she's one of the few who still like the taste/texture when it's cooked, also she looks like an enderman-cat hybrid (humanoid shadow with cat ears and tail and glowing magenta eyes) because sewer cats, then in season 8 I imagined that she would live in Boatem for most of the season but move to Hohenzollern for safety when the Mooners stuff happened. (Also around this time I was thinking less in terms of this oc and more about a couple of ocs I have since written a story about entirely separate from Hermitcraft, those two having powers connected to amethyst crystals and twisting vines respectively, so that might be why I was quite so invested in the Nothing virus story!)

But I haven't really thought about it much this season, I guess since I started playing MC Java properly literally on the day the season started it was like my story had fully diverged from the one I was watching, but if I bring back the ender cat person oc, I think she'd still be living in the starter village, showing up wherever to see big events and stuff. Loves reading in/staring in awe at the library nether hub. Also was definitely someone who went through the Rift during the crossover, and this is when she realises she is still partly a Watcher because the place highly resembles some of her dreams!

out of all the hermits I thought I'd have a dream of first its??? bdubs???? not complaining but everything that lined up that day was just bdubs after bdubs (I draw him, I watch s9, I dream)

this did happen like weeks ago

my skin/sona was walking around aque town and I think he was showing me around? a little tour that really makes me think I should try downloading the world fghsj. went to the moopop diner and aquarium and tnt shop and such and such

the most vivid bit I remember that felt so real (sun on my skin, ocean breeze) was going to the theater to watch a movie, for some reason there was only two showing (he also mentioned scar a bunch and I was sad not ever meeting him then)

to my absolute HORROR one of the two was SAUSAGE PARTY which I have never seen and never will but he seemed so excited cause it was animated. this low-key sent me into a panic attack but I don't think he noticed cause I left for the bathroom before breaking out fgdjfhdj

I walked through those doors with him sweating shaking full of dread and immediately woke up after lmao

another dream (not sure it was last night?) was with doc — who am currently watching

very short cause we were ??? fishing ??? I had my pink crocs on and it was a pond in boatem ????? he talked abt etho & bdubs & redstone but mostly doccy which I can't recall the details. treesa was close by and mumbo's bus was on the ground. idk very chill

both times they were like dads to me which was really nice,,,

Here's my new (not really new but only just named) self-insert OC, ElegantOrNot! (I have a personal lore reason for this character not having the exact same name as me which I can elaborate on if asked later since it has to do with more than just Hermitcitizen stuff...)

She first appeared during the lag spike caused by the massive chorus plant at the HCBBS being broken, as that was the moment she decided she wanted to be part of this world she had watched and grown to love, and she worked at the MooPop Cafe in Aque Town by day and in the Sewer Cats by night, chorus fruit is her favourite whether it's cooked or not, in season 8 she lived near Boatem but moved to Joe and Cleo's castle when the Moon Big insanity started getting too weird even for her, and in season 9 when the crossover happened she went through the Rift and finally realised she still has some Watcher powers because one of the worlds she often dreams about is Empires, and she's working on learning to teleport in her sleep to world hop in her dreams like Geminitay does! (So maybe also an Empires "citizen" eventually?) (This is also related to how she got to the snapshot Moon Big world but that might be a longer story idk yet.)

She loves reading random books or otherwise hanging out in the nether hub, and also sometimes goes to Grumbot's cave recently, having noticed how the hermits seem to have stopped asking him for ideas after the Rift closed and wondering if she should give him diamonds in case he's bored but also scared of having to do anything random for a robot that might probably be some form of villain...

When she's not in the nether or snooping in someone's base, she's usually found somewhere in the starter village or shopping district. So basically anywhere?

Okay so, after the Cubfan cub and some smaller projects I've been doing (unsure if those will get posted at all?) I finally revisited the mod I was making for stardew, the one that replaced the mayor with Mumbo?

Yeah, instantly after starting work on it, I made a blunder LMAO

After having to do it myself, I'm even (if possible) more impressed by CA making the original one

He looks SO goofy, but I find it kinda charming?? Will probably keep it like this, but still found it funny (In my head he's drinking Moopop)

as im trying to collect my thoughts about this part, skimming through the art, the writing, the edits once more, i know for a fact this was the part that had me at the edge of my seat the whole time, just the sheer world building and the tension that would set the tone for the latter half of the zine

but first, Hotguy and Cuteguy in: The Sidekick!

the dual smoke bombs had me cackling like OH my god of course scar would assume that grian still was able to fly after the fight only to realize they couldnt make a dramatic escape after the smoke bomb died down. so smoke bomb TWO-

the graffiti in this is so cool, this comic was absolute eye candy when it came to colors and the expressions of the different characters, each one animated in their own unique ways

and THE FLOWERS the graffiti flowers escaping the confines of the comic frames, grian and scar learning about each other and growing as an individual, like how the flowers bloomed and grew outside of the frame as each of them have their own realizations I ADORE IT SO MUCH (something something "to be loved is to be changed" something something)

i also love scar rocking the sahara / desert hoodie and grian the moopop one, the references are so fun to find

okay no but seriously this story was one of my faves, not only because we get to see the two bond more but also the danger is starting to ramp up. the days where they were just helping to save the day are starting to fade and now people are starting to question what their purpose is- they themselves are also trying to figure it out as well.

but no time to dwindle on that- we have creepers to attack!

another thing that i love is seeing the differences between their approaches in attacking and in teaching. grian frustrated with scar's 'aloofness' while scar is a bit more patient with his teaching (albeit they were both frustrated and needed a change of pace). the fact we also get a little more insight on how scar even learned how to fight in the first place with doing so many action sets and grian clocking him almost immediately that he fights like hes acting LMAO

okay look, i may be biased to all hell but i absolutely love reading superhero aus where the two meet in their civilian forms and are so close to realizing who is who but they cant quite get it at the end of the conversation. this was right up my alley LMAO

(note that at this point it was almost 9 PM, i had completely lost track of time and this was when i first glanced at how far i was into the zine and realized i already read through over 100 pages.)

Grian being a bit of a little shit as he refuses to let scar in but immediately feeling guilty once he realizes scar is bleeding and the fact that him patching up scar echoed the actions just days before when he and scar were patching up in the old apartment after the creeper fight just EXPLODES

the banter, the teasing, the impromptu fishing in alaska story that grian makes up and scar just goes along with it, the impromptu volleyball team analogy not only to cover up how scar got his injury but to also talk about cuteguy- i adore it all

and then scar falls asleep on the bench

i was with grian when he was like "oh shit- he really is asleep"

and the "just checking up on you" text messages AUGH i adore them <3 <3

the way i was glued to my screen as grian pulled at the clothes in scar's duffle bag- scar's hotguy clothes just to try and find something warmer to drape over scar as he slept, i was about to lose my damn mind /pos

AND THEN HE GRABS HIS OWN COAT I- *splat*

i havent seen many email-format type beat story telling before so this was an absolute joy to explore the story through pearl's detailed emails, grian's panicked typing (how was mans typing and sending so quickly with 365+ lazer eyed chickens chasing him like a mad man + a green gob- i mean goatman), and both bdubs' and cub's concern and nonchalance. not to mention bdubs just nodding along and going "well cub you have proven yourself...and uh- added a totally not a virus to scar's phone- BUT you have proven yourself...." absolute sillies, absolutely iconic
