If I have any specific art goals for 2023, it’s to hopefully have the chance to work on some more different characters within the SPN ‘verse. I also want to find the time to do some more pieces in my trueform series and character portraits - probably for MomentoCon and wherever else I might see some of the actors I haven’t had the chance to see at a convention yet.  I’ve been working on updating my Teepublic shop with more of my art, so you can get prints, bags, cases, mugs, and of course t-shirts with a lot of these pieces there. I may be opening a redbubble shop soon as well for some of the merch they offer that Teepublic doesn’t (as much as I love Teepublic’s quality and pricing.)

Set 15x20 didn’t happen AU.  They defeated Chuck and Jack brought Cas back.  Dean thinks life is about to start looking up until Cas tells him that he told Jimmy Novak that he’d give his body back.  When Dean doesn’t want him to go, its agreed upon that Cas can have the vessel for Spring and Summer and Jimmy will have it for Autumn and Winter.  Its going to be a long 6 months until he can see Cas again, but at least he can pray.

Castiel was rather disappointed in himself.  Thirsting over another person wasn’t something he’d ever done in his whole marriage, even after its best days had long passed.  And he’d worked with plenty of beautiful people, too.  Handsome men and even more gorgeous women, but none of them had ever gotten to him like this.  Usually he would have been more than capable of keeping Asmodeus in the back of his mind, and remind himself of how attracted to him he’d been when they’d first met, and how he continued to see his appearance as striking, even as some of his hair was beginning to gray.

There wasn’t anything wrong with finding another person attractive, of course.  It was bound to happen.  It probably happened to Asmodeus all the time, and Castiel didn’t care.

But for some reason he felt guilty about it, as he had always tried not to think of others in that way.  Castiel was never one to easily find themselves caught up in the way anyone looked in the first place.  Which might have been strange, considering that he was a makeup artist.  But Dean?  Dean was magnificent, at least in every physical aspect that he could see, and it was hard for him to turn his head away and back towards Charlie.  Charlie, his favorite celebrity, who his attention had been so easily stolen away from by a man he’d just met.  Castiel really needed to pull himself together.

It wasn’t just how Dean looked, either.  Castiel believed that, in just looking at someone, or just hearing someone’s name, an attraction, even love, could be created.  He believed in love at first sight.  He believed that love was uncontrollable, and that love has no particular reason for existing.  Love was not an emotion.  It was beyond explanation.

Castiel did not come to the conclusion that he was in love with Dean, of course.  That would make him feel silly, to think such a thing after just meeting the man.  But he knew that he was drawn to him.  At the least.

• Soviet Naval Infantry

The Russian Naval Infantry (MPR; Морская пехота России,) operates as the amphibious force of the Russian Navy. The first Russian naval infantry force formed in 1705, and since that time it has fought in the Napoleonic Wars, and both World Wars.

The history of the Russian Navy could be traced back to the 16th century with Ivan the Terrible with the formation of his special team of Streltsy "sea soldiers" as part of his crew of flotilla ships. In November, 1705, following a decree of Peter I, the first regiment "of naval equipage", was formed for boarding and landing operations, on the ships of the Baltic Fleet. The regiment had 1200 men. During the prelude to the war, in 1799 the Russian naval infantry took the French fortress at Corfu after a four-month siege. In 1806, a Russian landing force took Naples by storm and entered the Papal States. Naval Infantry Units were raised only in 1910 and in 1911, projects were underway under the Chief Naval Staff for the development of permanent infantry units in the main bases of the fleet; an infantry regiment of the Baltic Fleet, the battalion of troops in the Black Sea Fleet and the Vladivostok Battalion.

These naval infantrymen, who served under the Navy of the Imperial State, would later on form the core of the naval infantry service of the young Soviet Navy in 1918, which distinguished itself during the long Russian Civil War (1918-1922). During World War II about 350,000 Soviet Navy sailors fought on land operations. At the beginning of the war, the navy had only one naval infantry brigade in the Baltic Fleet. The Naval Infantry conducted over 114 landings, most of which were carried out by platoons and companies. In general, however, Naval Infantry served as regular infantry, without any amphibious training. They conducted four major operations: two during the Battle of the Kerch Peninsula, one during the Caucasus Campaign and one as part of the Landing at Moonsund, in the Baltic.

The Soviet experience in amphibious warfare in World War II contributed to the development of Soviet operational art in combined arms operations. Many members of the Naval Infantry were parachute trained; they conducted more drops and successful parachute operations than the VDV. During the war, five brigades and two battalions of naval infantry were awarded Guards status. The title Hero of the Soviet Union was bestowed on 122 servicemen of naval infantry units. Wearing their black uniforms, the sailors came to be called the “naval infantry.” In the Russian language, the present-day Russian marines and World War II-vintage sailors-turned-infantry are both called naval infantry. Since there was no time to give the men the appropriate infantry training, they had to learn on the job. As one can imagine, such a mode of learning carried a heavy price tag. Very often, army officers commanded naval infantry brigades.

The Naval Infantry was disbanded in 1947, with some units being transferred to the Coastal Defence Force. By the end of the Cold War, the Soviet Navy had over eighty landing ships, as well as two Ivan Rogov-class landing ships. The latter could transport one infantry battalion with 40 armoured vehicles and their landing craft. Reclothed in army uniforms, they retained their distinctive blue-striped jerseys. After the war ended, none of these men were returned to the Soviet Navy.

Grigorovich M-15 [262] by Alan Wilson Via Flickr: In my opinion, early flying boats are a thing of beauty and this Russian built Grigorovich M-15 is no exception. It is the only surviving example of the 80 built and is c/n R.11C.262 It is on display in the 'WW1' hangar at the Muzeum Lotnictwa Polskiego. Krakow, Poland. 23-8-2013. It's history is given in the following info taken from the museum website:- "Since 1911, the Russian Imperial Navy employed French-built seaplanes (i.e. Farman, Borel and Léveque). The maintenance of the aircraft was performed at the S. S. Shchetinin & M. A. Shcherbakov Works in St. Petersburg. Since 1913 the works had been led by Dmitry Pavlovich Grigorovich. In the same year he designed, based on French originals, a successful M.1 aircraft with a boat-like fuselage. This was the beginning of a family of light flying boats, which served with distinction during the First World War. In Autumn 1915 the Imperial Russian Navy issued an order for a heavier flying boat intended for long-range reconnaissance. In December 1915 Grigorovich built the M-9 type, which first flew on 9th January 1916. Notably, on 17th September 1916 the M-9 became the first flying boat to perform a loop, piloted by test pilot Jan Nagórski. A serious weakness of the design, however, was the licence-built Salmson-Unne radial engine. Therefore, in 1916 an improved variant designated the M-15 was built, powered by the excellent Hispano-Suiza V8 engine. Only 80 M-15 machines were built. The Grigorovich M-15 was a long range flying boat biplane with the wing canopy placed over the fuselage, a pusher propeller and the empennage placed on a pylon, in the propeller's air stream, which increased the steering efficiency. The semi-monocoque wooden construction was covered with stressed plywood skin attached to open work formers. The wings and empennage were made of wood covered with fabric. Two stabilising floats were fitted at the ends of the lower wing. The Grigorovich M-15 number R II C 262, built in 1917, was assigned to the fortress flight in Arensburg on the Osilia (Saaremaa) island in the fortified Moonsund archipelago, which guarded the entrance into Riga bay. These islands were captured by the Germans during land and naval campaign codenamed Operation Albion from the 10th to the 24th October 1917. The result was 20,130 POWs, 141 cannons and 10 aircraft captured among them, the R II C 262 flying boat. Tested in the Seaplanes Test Flight in Warnemünde, it eventually reached the German Aeronautical Collection in Berlin. Abandoned along with other wrecked remains of the collection in occupied Poland, found in 1945, in 1964 was moved over to the newly created Krakow's Museum as the only one, more or less complete, albeit damaged, First World War aeroplane. The restoration was undertaken by the end of the 1970s and was continued in the years 1991–1993. The aircraft is the only surviving M-15 example in the world."

Sam was actually the one that hugged Cas before anything else could be said.  Dean was too frozen to move.  Slowly, Castiel put his arms around Sam, not quite there in the present moment yet.  Dean imagined that a part of Cas was still in the Empty.  Not that he knew what that felt like.  He just figured that it might have been similar to how, sometimes, he was still in Hell.  Still on the rack.  Or looking at one. It was when Sam let him go that Cas finally looked at Dean. When Dean ran up those stairs, he’d been ready to tackle Cas in a hug, to pour his heart out, to cry, to tell him he was an idiot, that they both were, to kiss him.  He wasn’t sure what he would have done first, or what he would have ended up not doing.  Dean was still too frozen.  Slowly being thawed, though, by blue eyes.  They were actually safe.  Dean could feel it, how for once, they were going to have time.  Definitely.  After so long, most of the obstacles that had been there were either gone, or...well, Dean was ready, despite what issues still remained.  Or, he was pretty sure he was. Losing Cas while knowing that Cas loved him was different.  It was undoubtedly much harder than any of the other times he’d lost him before, partially because of how final it had felt, with no God on their side, and possibly having lost everyone that was on their side for good.  Thankfully, it hadn’t lasted that long.  It still had been too long for Dean, though.  Way too long.  That was the maximum amount of time that Dean was going to let Cas out of his reach again. “Cas, hey I—” “I really should be going now,” Jack said again, looking at Castiel.  “I will see you.”  He turned away, towards the brothers.  “All of you.  My family.”  He raised his hand in his usual wave, and then he vanished, blending into the beam of light hitting the road where they stood.
