This is the product of several months worth of research on the Mariowiki and also general wikipedia for animal taxonomy dhbcjshdfgnj

I also have all these various species listed by name in each category so that I don’t forget what they are lol

Plants, ghosts, and rock/metal creatures are in separate categories that I have to do completely separate pages on, though those pages will most definitely be smaller than the animal evolution chart.

(And I do already have those species listed as well, I just haven’t put together their charts yet)

Also, just for clarification, Odyssey implies that animal life on the planet actually began on the Moon and those early lunar lifeforms fell to the planet on moon rocks. Thus, the first living thing was the Moonsnake (which is a living rock species) and the first animal was an octopus-like creature that is an ancient form of Gushen. And how did they come to be? Well, Moon Magic, which I go into some detail here in this post.

Anyway, that is all. I am soooo very proud of this and I’m still having so much fun building the Mario (and by extension Donkey Kong, Yoshi, and Wario) world basically from the ground up with lore and stuff <3

Oba took me out on a date after we just had a child. We drove around late at night and just snacked on some snacks we got from a gas station. We stopped at a ice cream place, but i couldn't eat anything since i was allergic 😭 Obanai didn't eat anything in solidarity hehehe.

“What the heck is this?”, I hear you protest. “This is no enemy! This is just an obstacle! This isn’t weird Mario obstacles!” My dear reader, your hypothetical outrage is justified, if a little bit rude. I also didn’t think much of this enemy at first... but this is Mario Odyssey! Each kingdom has a brochure filled with fun factoids! Just take a gander at this excerpt of the brochure for the Moon Kingdom:

Lunar Life Forms

The surface of the moon is harsh, but a few creatures do live there. Take heed if tempted to study their unique shape and movement up close, as they have sharp spikes. it's probable best to observe them from a safe vantage point.

Interestingly, similar creatures can be found in the Seaside Kingdom. Did life on our planet (which began in the seas) actually originate on the moon?

This isn’t just a bunch of rotating spikes- it’s a living being! And not just any being... this is quite possibly one the FIRST weird Mario enemies!! One of the first creatures to populate the Mario Earth! That’s pretty dang special.

The Mario Wiki also compares them to Streptococcus- they’re a kind of bacteria that grows in chains around an axis. I didn’t know about these, but they’re neat!

And they told me that I was dumb for pursuing a degree in Mario lore! Who’s laughing now, DAD?

I decidedly gave up on this project, so have this unfinished moonsnake animation 🫡

I liked working on it, but ibis kept crashing on me and it got tiring waiting half an hour for it to be restored only to crash a while later.

This has been months in the making, but you can definitely tell i gave up lololol

I've learned my lesson on animation on ibis for any future uses ig sigh
