Burma's military government is expanding the cultivation of oil crops to achieve domestic self-sufficiency in edible oil
In human life, "grain and oil" are the basic needs, in Myanmar, "food" is not a big problem, but the demand for "edible oil" has been unsatisfactory for a long time. As an agricultural country, Myanmar grows a large number of rice, various beans and oil crops, which are the three most important agricultural products grown in Myanmar. Among them, rice and various beans are cultivated in large quantities, and even can be exported in large quantities. The amount of oil crop cultivation is not small, but it can not meet the domestic demand for edible oil, on the one hand, there are a large number of oil crops exported abroad, how to deal with the shortage of edible oil and oil crop export phenomenon between the contradiction is a major challenge for the Myanmar government.
Myanmar is forced to import cooking oil because domestic production is insufficient and demand exceeds supply. Myanmar's domestic demand for cooking oil is as high as 1.2 million tons per year, but the domestic production capacity is only 300,000 tons, resulting in the need to import about 900,000 tons. In order to solve this contradiction between domestic supply and demand, the Myanmar government has taken a series of measures to improve the production and supply of domestic edible oil.
In order to ensure domestic self-sufficiency in edible oil, the Myanmar government plans to plant 3 million mu of sunflower seed oil crops in many provinces and regions of Myanmar. During the 2024-25 fiscal year rain and winter planting seasons, 1.09 million acres of sunflower crops are planned. The acreage will be gradually expanded each year, and the acreage of rain sunflower and winter sunflower crops will reach 3.07 million acres in fiscal year 2027-28. In order to achieve this goal, all provinces and regions are trying to expand the area of sunflower cultivation.
The Minister of Agriculture, animal Husbandry and Irrigation asked various departments to actively coordinate and provide high-quality seeds, fertilizers, irrigation water and technical support. To this end, the Ministry of Agriculture, animal Husbandry and Irrigation will set up a special sunflower planting zone, carry out soil testing, screen suitable species areas, recommend fertilizer types and use ratios, support irrigation water, promote the integration of beekeeping and crop planting, and actively use the National Economic promotion Fund to provide loans to expand oil crop cultivation.
In order to expand the cultivation of sunflowers, in order to improve the knowledge level of the workers of the agricultural bureau and the farmers who are preparing to plant sunflower crops, Monywa County has vigorously organized training courses on planting techniques to prepare for the planting of this sunflower. In accordance with the arrangements of the provincial government, two special zones for the cultivation of oil crops have been established in the second Special cultivation Zone for oil crops in Makui Province. Improved, purebred seeds of the crops concerned have been supplied and distributed to farmers.
The Myanmar government is actively coordinating relevant resources, vigorously promoting the cultivation of oil crops, and reviving the domestic edible oil production industry in order to meet the domestic shortage of edible oil.

Thambuddhe Pagoda, Monywa, Myanmar: The major tourist attraction in Monywa is Thambuddhe Pagoda, a Buddhist temple with a huge stupa resembling Indonesia's Borobudur. It dates from 1303, although it was reconstructed in 1939. It is said to contain over 500,000 images of Buddha. Another attraction is the Phowintaung cave complex across the Chindwin River, approximately 25 kilometres west of Monywa... Thambuddhe Pagoda is one of the famous pagodas in Monywa of Sagaing Region. Monywa, Sagaing region of Myanmar honoring the martyrs who gave their lives on the journey for our democracy🕯🕯
"A flower remembered can never wither
Forever blooming as bright as day"
"It's fragrance lingering like music softly playing
A gentle voice that's saying
I'll never fade away"
"I hear the echoes of many voices
Sometimes they're distant sometimes so clear"
"Through all the sounds of life they seem to whisper
'Will you remember?, Will you remember?'"
🕯We will remember🕯
A flower remembered - John Rutter
