POV you're Jaehaera and your mommy just jumped out a window but also she's back, sort of, except she's all weird and half-burnt now. and your daddy was gone and now there's a man who says he's your daddy even though he doesn't look at all like how your daddy used to but he pays more attention to you than your daddy did. and you don't really know what's going on but everybody around you has been dying for so long so you don't ask questions and just hope these new versions of your parents don't leave you again.
Your tags about Larys dressing Aegon as a woman in Braavos, calling him his wife and giving him strogen on his food
*Sweats heavily* He gives Aegons all type of dresses and jewels that May or May not highlight his burns and injuries. He gaves him the sweetest wines with a bit too much poppy milk
He calls Jaehaera daughter in front of Aegon and braids his strands of hair in pretty braids Oh my god i thibk i haube covid
larys told aegon they could live well so he wants to prove it. always bringing aegon back pretty dresses and jewelry. they only ever seem to draw attention to or mimic his scaring. larys doesnt let him cover them up. he baths aegon. braids the hair he has left back into pretty braids…
aegon doesnt know whats going on. why hes so emotional, why hes gaining weight, why his tits are sore (why the FUCK are his tits sore). larys doesnt try to dissuade him of any of this (and i dont think aegon would, as larys is his only ally now, but if he did accuse larys of doing… something…) he just starts doing misogyny at aegon. youre being hysterical. gaslighting isnt real babe, you made that up. gives aegon a glass of wine he spiked with milk of the poppy to keep him nice and soft and calm.
maybe larys starts adding excessive amounts of fat to aegons food to help him gain weight for his uh… transition. also to help give him body image issues…
ohhh my god like theres no way they could be in contact with her but aegon finding out larys has been sending and receiving letters from jaehaera secretly…
#teen!jaehaera calling aegon mother and larys father and braiding her hair like aegon does#also alicent having to live with a burnt clone of her ex (son) that her other ex is fucking--I would also go nuts ngl#house of the dragon#a song of ice and fire#larys strong#larysgon#aegon ii targaryen#jaehaera targaryen#monsters talks hotd#house of the dead dove

Aegon is not the only rapist greenie Aemond is a rapist too and would stil be a rapist even if Aemond's dickrider Ryan decided to portray his relationship with alys as a romantic Disney fairytail <3
the fact that Ryan managed to make Aemond and Criston - arguably two of the most misogynistic men in the dance - to be some sort of anti hero will never not make me facepalm myself.
While I love imagining book Aemond with multiple characters in terms of shipping there's no denying he'd be a dark/toxic character in any pair.
Even his canon relationship with Alys is very interesting to analyze. While I doubt Alys wasn't manipulative and ambitious herself like some anti Aemond fans try to make her be, she was still at a huge disadvantage in her "relationship" with Aemond. She was a captive-turned-lover and if not rape then their sexual relationship was at the very least with dubious consent
#ask reply#book Aemond Targaryen#tw rape#I think we have two extreme sides here. Side A that thinks if you like a character that does atrocious things (like rape. murder. torture)#then you'd support all this irl and you're a monster for enjoying this fictional character#and side B that kinda agrees with this mindset and thus are in a bug denial about every immoral thing their fav character has done#anti hotd#conclusion: this fandom is very dumb when they have to talk about morals and can't seperate fiction from reality

Duty and Sacrifice | Hotd
Pairing | Aemond x Reader/Y/N
Warnings | Mentions of incest between siblings.
Word count | 3032
Authors note | I haven’t written in a while and it shows but I’ve been working on this while I was in the bathroom and this might be a one shot or a short series leading into the murder of Lucerys.
・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・
Aemond would never admit it to you directly but he was fond of the way your hair was reminiscent of your mother.
The glossy red, like a promise of an unforgettable autumn, the smell of lilac blooms and gooseberry wine, trailed behind you as you came to sit next to your mother. you didn't look like the traditional Targaryen.
Despite Helaena being your twin you looked almost nothing like her, where as she was thin, gentle blue eyes and icy white hair. You were fire, bright red hair, full breast, your dark violet eyes being all that made the common folk shy away from naming you a bastard.
You had grown into your womanly figure early, your large bust that was extenuated by your tight stomach from years of training made all noble twats talk of you senselessly which made him ill at the thought of it.
Somehow you looked like the perfect mix of your eldest sister Rhaenyra and Your Queen mother, Alicent.
He loved playing with your curls, thoughts of how they'd look wrapped around his hand as he made you cum ferociously on his cock ran rapidly through his mind.
But there was an innocent light to it as well, Aemond loved his mother, and you mirrored her perfectly. no matter how unkind and stiff she was to you all. You were the opposite, you may have stolen her likeness in appearance but you were kind, gentle and loving, all the things she wasn't.
Having a motherly role to your idiotic drunk of a brother and your sweet twin sister.
Aemond also enjoyed having someone look after him, without the same judgement and expectations the Queen had for him.
He loved the way your hands felt on his face, while you sobbed cleaning his blood away, the fire in your eyes as you stood to defend him, covered in his blood.
Aemond never could grasp how you could love them all so much, even Rhaenyra and her bastard children, you'd stand before anyone and swear on the Gods that they were legitimate just because you knew what being Queen meant to her.
"Come Aemond, I must clean your bandages" you whispered amongst the crowd not to draw attention to his injury. It had been many moons since it happened but unfortunately being struck in the face during training cause the gash to bleed once more.
He stood unaffected by your words. still shy to show it in fear you may think him a monster like the other ladies of the court.
"They will be even more frightened by you if you are to bleed out in front of them, Brother" your soft scent floated through the air like a fragrant flower as your hand brushed against his, "Come" you urged noticing everyone's attention on the king as his health steadily declined.
It seemed the whole court was on edge that day, all attention on them as if Viserys was to die in moments and they'd kill each other reaching for his crown.
The stress was beginning to eat you alive, and the last thing you needed was Aemond to be in more agony knowing how badly it hurt your heart to him in pain.
You walked along side of him after excusing yourself from the commotion, not daring to grab your elder brother's hand until you were away from the crowd.
"Are you alright, my love?" Aemond hummed watching you audibly sigh gripping his hand tightly. "It is just the weigh of what is sure to happen soon" you mumbled.
You loved Viserys very much, he had never paid much attention to you in comparison to Rhaenyra. However you'd helped him build his mini statues of king's landing as a child and that moment cemented a love for your father that even his lack of care for you didn't sully.
"He will die soon" you stated walking into Aemond's chambers, his scent was more pungent now in his room.
He smelt like trees after it rained, clean and crisp with a hint of the strong Pine trees that sat outside of the sept he was frequenting lately. It was comforting and relaxing to be so fully immersed in what seemed like the essence of your big brother.
Your hands made quick work unlatching his eye patch as you settled in front of him, "does it truly trouble you this much sister? The thought of him dying?" Aemond questioned darting his good eye away from your face. He couldn't bare the idea that you'd look at him with disgust even though you were often the only one he'd allow change his bandages.
You quickly wiped away the blood leaking from his wound, applying a salve you made to keep away the infection, "your sapphire is irritating it again" you said softly ignoring his question, your plump lips almost touching his nose as you got closer to see it.
He pushed you away gently, pulling his eye patch back on with a hiss, "it is fine as it is, if Aegon had been mindful of his sword this wouldn't of happened"
You sighed watching him put away your things you kept in his chambers for times like this, "it 'twas an accident" you mumbled looking down.
"You baby him far too much" he groaned in almost annoyance before he caught the look in your eyes, "he isn't as innocent as you believe Sister"
You had been angry at Aegon for harming your brother but when he gave you the puppy dog eyes you couldn't help but defend him.
Still you felt bad that you had forgiven Aegon so quickly thinking that Aemond would be mad at you, but you couldn't bring yourself to be unkind to him.
"It is fine Y/n it will heal just as long as I have you to care for me" Aemond said walking up to you, he pulled you into a hug, letting your scent mix with his in a deliciously sensual way.
You blushed pulling away from him, "Always brother" you cleared your throat, "we must go back"
He nodded disliking how quickly you put distance between the two of you, he gripped your hand, "let us return then"
・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・
Aemond knew something was wrong with you, you didn't seem ill nor did your smile fade from your beautiful face but still something was off, he noticed at first at dinner, when you excused yourself early. Something you rarely did if not on your moons blood which he had written down so he could help you track so he knew for a fact it wasn't that.
If he hadn't been watching you so closely he wouldn't have noticed you putting your food into napkins underneath your Gown pocket as if saving it away for some reason.
The most unusual part of your sudden illness at dinner was you rushed to your chambers with your handmaiden. You liked to prepare for bed alone.
He knew it was wrong to follow you but when he knocked on your chamber door it creeped open slightly as if not to show too much.
You face was flushed as you glanced up at him, "Yes, Brother?" You questioned with a soft smile pretending to droop your eyes to mimic exhaustion.
Your hair was wet, a sprig of lavender behind your ear, something else unusual, "Nothing, just making sure you are well" he replied narrowing his eye in suspicion.
You nodded, "Very well, I'm off to bed Sweet dreams" you rushed to say as you shut the door in his face.
He stood there shocked for a moment before turning away, you were up to something and even though he knew it was wrong to doubt you he couldn't help it.
Your footsteps were nearly silent as you snuck from your chamber, a hood resting over your head and a dark shift covering your commoners clothes.
Aemond stood just far enough in the shadows to follow you as you went to flea bottom.
He watched as your Princess like presence turned into one much like the other people in walking at night. You had been here before he noted, you knew exactly how to cover your tracks and how to hide your true identity.
If he was any other it would've been easy to lose you amid the crowds of people covered by the moonlight but your glossy hair peaking through the hood was a dead giveaway.
You stopped at a door, knocking twice. He watched as a woman emerged wrapping you tightly in an embrace, she smiled at you with tears in her eyes and her hands shook as you gave her a bag he hadn't noticed you had.
"This will be enough to live comfortably in Pentos" you said quietly, brushing a hand through the woman's tangled dark hair, "you will have your own home and never want for anything"
The woman let out a sob, covering her mouth, "Thank you My Princess, I-i am forever in your debt I cannot repay you" she pulled you into another hug.
You didn't seem disgusted by the obvious dirt on the woman's clothing, nor the stench of the streets.
"I have one request" you said with a grin "may I see him once more please" Aemond watched as she nodded hurriedly rushing back into her shack.
Much to his surprise, in her arms was a baby. it's hair white as his own, small fat fingers reaching up to touch your face and you held it with such care as she passed it into your arms it made his heartbeat rapidly.
"Tell him that his Father was a brave knight that died at battle, he was a good man but he couldn't stay to care for the two of you" you told the woman glancing down at the baby with love in your eyes, "and that his Aunt loved him so much that she could hardly bare it"
You had tears in your eyes as you handed the woman back her child, "there will be a man here shortly named Erick to safely bring the two of you to a boat, after that it shall be smooth sailing" you pulled something else from your bag on your hip.
"Enough food for tonight but I made sure the boat is ready for you with accommodations" you nodded stepping away, "I hope you have a good life Ellesa, you're a good woman"
She smiled at you watching as you kissed the boy on his head, "Farewell My Queen" she whispered. You laughed pushing her arm playfully, "Farewell my friend"
As she walked back into the small hut that he assumed was her home. You turned around and caught his eye, "Brother" you said slowly approaching him.
"It is Aegon's" he stated obviously referring to the child. You nodded, falling into step with him, "Yes"
You held your hand out awaiting his as you always did when you walked alongside him, "Not the first she had by him either, the others died due to illness she couldn't afford to heal" you had no reason to keep the truth from him and knowing you could always trust him you didn't wish to.
"She was his favorite whore, he introduced us once and I took a liking to her as well just not in the same manner" you murmured pausing your steps as Aemond stopped to stare at you, "he took you back to the Street of Silk?" he all but growled in anger at their older sibling.
You laughed, rubbing a finger on his furrowed brow, "No, he'd brought her to me" he sighed calming down a bit, "you've bedded her?" He asked in quiet surprise.
"No" you shook your head, "she was simply a friend i had grown close to, but if mother were to find out about her she'd have her killed, the babe as well"
"mother wouldn't do that" Aemond disagreed, as cruel as she could be he couldn't imagine her doing such a thing. "she'd never harm an innocent woman and her child"
You snorted as the two of you continued your walk back to the red keep, "you'd be surprised what our mother would do to protect our family's name"
・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・
You had a difficult relationship with your mother, you loved her like no other but you saw the looks she gave you, the tone she used when she addressed you.
Your mother didn't like you very much, she loved you, of course as she did all of her children. But she couldn't bring herself to like them not when her life had to end to bring all of yours to fruition.
The Queen didn't blame you but she could never shake the feeling as she looked at your face so similar to hers in her youth.. so similar to Rhaenyra's.
You heard her before you saw her as you turned the corner in search of Aegon, "You are no son of mine" the words so harsh it made your heart sear with sadness.
"I am sorry" Aegon whispered out, "I am sorry I am not perfect like you" there was a stillness in the air before the sound of a slap.
You quickly walked into the room to see Aegon on the ground, his cheek bright red, tears in his eyes and your Queen mother standing above him.
"Mother" you called for her hesitantly, "I believe Grandfather was looking for you, The septa mentioned it to me" you mumbled as she turned to you.
Her eyes closed and she shook her head, "very well" she cleared her throat looking down at Aegon once more, "Excuse me Sweetling" she said as she walked past you.
You rushed to Aegon's side helping him sit up but he stumbled falling onto your lap, the stench ale heavy on his tongue, "Why" he whispered laying his head down on your lap, "why does she hate me" he asked you.
Sighing you brushed the hair from his face, "Mother is troubled much like us Aegon, Do not doubt her love"
He laughed drunkenly, "She is cruel, just like father they hate us" you felt your heart drop not knowing what to say, you couldn't argue you felt the same as he did.
"Why couldn’t she marry us" he mumbled suddenly into your gown, "I told her it was you I preferred, did you know?" He questioned and your heart sank.
You didn't want to marry Aegon, not because it disgusted you, but because you knew the type of man he was, A wanton man with selfish needs and he could never put aside his childlike behavior not even for your twin, His wife.
“No I did not brother” you whispered, your hand brushing the curls back, “she knew it would hurt me if you weren’t mine” he bitterly slurred out.
Silently you thanked your mother for not approving the proposal, You’d always be there for Aegon but you could never stomach his ways.
"She hates you the most" he lazily laughed looked up at you, "you look so much like her she can't bare the sight of your face"
You already knew that. Rhaenyra was actually the one who’d explained it to you in your youth, she’d found you crying underneath a table after tea with your mother, she had insulted your embroidery you’d made for your father and Rhaenyra wiped away your tears.
You were never enough to Alicent, you indulged your self in your studies, you sought out religion just to gain praise that never came, you were the prettiest girl in court yet she always had criticisms about your appearance or your poise.
You watched as his glassy eyes closed and he fell asleep but you continued running your hand through his greasy hair, his words heavy on your mind.
"What did he do now" you heard Aemond say as he leaned against the wall near you, "mother seemed upset"
You were quiet, "she hit him again, told him he wasn't her son" you murmured.
The soft snores filled the gap in the absence of conversation, "how can you love him" Aemond broke the silence watching you closely. "He is terrible, you've seen it firsthand cleaning away his messes, he doesn't deserve it"
You paused your movements, "because if i do not who will? Hel cannot comprehend most emotions, Father hates us, you cannot stand him.” You swallowed taking a shaky breath, “He is right, Mother hates me as well but i am strong unlike him, Aegon is weak he cannot handle the pressure placed on his head.
Aemond came to sit next to you, "she intends to send me away" you stated looking up at him, "to the grand sept the learn the ways of septas"
He nodded watching your face closely, "how do you know this?" You giggled shaking your head, "you learn quite a bit with kindness Brother"
"You do not wish for that?" He asked grabbing your smaller hand, it always fit with his like the missing piece to a puzzle as if you were made for him. He swallowed at the thought of you moving far away from him where he couldn't protect you.
You sighed, "To live a life under false religion just to please the woman that wishes i didn't exist does not sound too appealing to me"
"I am a Targaryen i belong here with my family" you stated in Valyrian, "I am not a Hightower no matter how much I resemble them they will not force my dragon to rot in the Pits because I cannot bring him with me"
"You asked me before if I was truly upset by the idea of father dying but to be honest I am not, I'm more afraid of what mother will do after he's gone" you whispered.
Aemond gripped your hand tighter as the mother tongue came from your soft lips, the beautiful words sounding like a song.
"What if I propose an idea to mother" he hesitated to ask in fear of what you would think. You hummed in confusion, "What is it?"
Aemond looked down at his brother laying his head in the lap he had decided was his, "I shall Marry you"

This is a response to a hotd critical post about the "favouritism towards Greens in screen time ratio", and I think it's so interesting how team black also feel like they're being fucked over by the showrunners when, to me, it's blindingly obvious that it's the other way round.
Not only are the show runners villainising the greens, not the blacks, they've also gone out of their way to make the blacks seem like the badass heroes who can do no wrong, and this is the root of the problem for both team black and team green. It oversimplifies the dance and goes against the themes and message of the whole book, rendering the characters either inconsistent, one-dimensional, and worst of all, flat and boring.
Lets start off with the greens. The argument that the showrunners are "gagging on the greens" doesn't hold up when we actually think about it for more than 2 seconds.
With the source material of hotd being a fictional history book with different biases and perspectives (emphasis on different perspectives), the showrunners have cherry picked what to adapt, and have chosen to take the worst of the greens as the objective truth and erase their good moments as "green propaganda". The main example that comes to mind is aegon. Plenty of other people have talked about this in depth before, but in f&b, aegon raping a girl was a rumour spread by mushroom, a narrator with a clear black bias who wasn't even in kings landing at the time. There was no reason in adapting this rumour other than to demonise aegon, and by extension, team green. The way the scene is framed, it is clear that it was never about dyana, how the rape affected her mentally, emotionally, socially, physically. For a supposedly feminist show, dyana's rape was a throwaway scene, it never had any impact on the story further. So what was the point of the scene other than to tell the audience "look at what a monster aegon is. How can you support someone like that?" And it works.
You can see on social media, any time there's something vaguely positive about the greens, you have hoards of people comment "yeah but he's a rapist" "how can you support a rapist?", etc. It forces you to side with team black. Later in the show, the audience gets to know that aegon's dick burst "like a sausage". Why would the audience need to know this? Aegon's mutilated dick is presented as "karma" for dyana and is only meant to humiliate him. And again, after this revelation, so many people on social media were making fun of his "burnt sausage". They've made a laughingstock of aegon, and as the figurehead of team green, it's clear that we're not meant to side with team green.
Furthermore, in bastardising, and sometimes, even completely erasing the relationships between team green, the showrunners have dehumanised them and made them irredeemable villains, because, again, we were never meant to side with those who "usurped the rightful queen".
The loyalty and commitment the greens had to one another made them such compelling characters and heavily shaped their central motivations and actions. Aegon only took the crown to protect his family. Aemond, after rooks rest, never called himself a king, only lord protecter even though he knows he would've made a better king than aegon. Daeron torched the riverlands to get to his mother and sister and sacked bitterbridge as revenge for his nephew. Helaena offered up her life for her son, and chose to sacrifice maelor because she knew he wouldn't understand what was happening. Their actions may not be necessarily good (and in daeron's case, actually happen to be war crimes), and their motivations may be morally grey, but they're understandable, they're sympathetic, seeing as it was out of love and loyalty, something that 21st century society can relate to. Without these complex and compelling ties, the audience is left asking why would the greens stick together if they all seemingly can't stand each other? Why fight for aegon if he doesn't even seem to care for them? What was the point in having the crown then? As a result, the characterisations feel one-dimensional (helaena being reduced to being just an "innocent" amidst her bloodthirsty family) or inconsistent (alicent. just her entire story arc. it could've been interesting if done right, but alas, no such luck), or rushed (suddenly aemond wants to be king in his own right after defending his brother's claim at storms end).
This isn't to say that team green are perfect, far from it, but the close emotional ties and relationships could've been used to elevate the internal conflicts in the show. We could've had complex characters who aren't necessarily good, but they're family and they stick together despite their personal grievances.
And this isn't even mentioning their bonds with their dragons. Where was vhagar roaring when aemond's eye was cut out? Aegon and sunfyre had the closest bond between dragon and human and that was given to rhaenyra in the show and where is dreamfyre?
One last thing on the greens, they are presented as incompetent and not equipped to rule, which is meant to show how it would be oh so much better if rhaenyra was on the throne. Criston parading meleys' head is framed as stupid as meleys was "a beloved dragon", ignoring the fact that she murdered hundreds of smallfolk at the coronation. Alicent is presented as stupid for thinking that after rooks rest, the small council would appoint her the queen, aegon in the small council was meant to be laughed at. Of course, this begs the question, if the greens were meant to be a mess of a faction with only 3 functioning dragons and now 2 effective dragon riders, how did they hold out against the blacks for so long? It's clear that the showrunners haven't thought this through.
So yeah, i don't really understand what this person was trying to say when they say that the showrunners are "gagging on the greens" when they are demonised, humiliated and stripped of compassion. I would like to say here, nothing i've said about the greens here is new to team green fans, and so many more people have gone into more depth about this.
Lets move onto the blacks. In a conflict where no side was meant to be in the right (who has the right to rule is a beast for another day), where there were no winners, only losers, where a dynastic dispute almost tore down the entire aforementioned dynasty, the blacks are framed as the heroes, the side the audience should root for. If they come off as villainised to the audience, i don't think it was done on purpose.
Opposite to the greens, they're mistakes and flaws are glossed over. I think this is the main reason why team black falls flat as opposed to lack of screen time, which i don't really want to count.
An important example of this is blood and cheese. In f&b, blood and cheese was a horrific event which drove queen helaena mad and, importantly, was meant to murder one of aegon and helaena's sons in revenge for lucerys. A son for a son. It was always meant to be jaehaerys. By making blood and cheese all one big mistake in the show, with aemond as the real target and oops, we can't find him so jaehaerys will do, team black and rhaenyra can't be held accountable for the murder of an innocent 6 year old boy. Moreover, the fact that rhaenyra never knew or sanctioned the murder, and it was all daemon going rogue, rhaenyra is even further removed from the horrific murder of a child, because, of course, our heroine can't be responsible for anything bad, she's meant to be the one in the right!
Furthermore, condal and hess try to force the smallfolk's love of rhaenyra during the dance, contrary to the book, which serves to uphold rhaenyra's right to the throne and show how team black are the right side. During the blockade on kings landing, the smallfolk conveniently forget that she's the one causing the blockade when she sends food through (showing that she could've done that at any time). The cheering for rhaenyra and the riot makes no sense, as again, she was the one who caused the blockade in the first place.
The introduction of the prophecy also is only meant to justify any "wrong" rhaenyra and team black do. The death of the dragonseeds and the smallfolk were all in the name of a prophecy so it's ok. And this is the thing which infuriates me the most, because the prophecy could've been a fascinating aspect of team black's motivations if framed right. The idea of committing atrocities in the name of a believed divine, higher purpose could've been used to expand upon team black's character growth and internal conflict vis a vis the knights templar and the crusades. How do they feel about this? Are they even aware of what they're doing? Alas, the show itself buys into the prophecy, buys into the divine purpose and suddenly, the atrocities aren't presented as "that bad" anyways. All of that to say, the show has never intentionally villainised team black.
So we've established that as the heroes, team black can't do anything wrong, and if they do, it's for a higher purpose, so it's alright. Team black's "emotions and conflicts are made secondary" not to "disposable filler scenes of Greens", but to themselves, or rather, to rhaenyra and her right to rule. So many team black scenes were used to uplift rhaenyra to show how she is the rightful queen. The main two examples of this that stick out to me is baela rebuking jace when he rightfully questions rhaenyra's decisions and daemon's whole harrenhal arc, which serves as his redemption and so he can reaffirm his commitment to rhaenyra's right to rule. Of course it's going to be "a bore" if the main characters, the ones we're meant to be cheering haven't got anything going for them except for cheering on rhaenyra.
There's no character interaction, no character growth, no real internal conflict because from the beginning, team black has been presented as in the right and can do no wrong, so there's no room to grow, no room to develop, not because of lack of screen time. When character development almost breaks through (see: jace questioning rhaenyra), it's quickly quashed, because the audience needs to be reminded that rhaenyra is always right. There's a clear good and bad side that the show is trying to force, which doesn't work in this setting because it reinforces the idea of the divine right of kings, the idea that one person, one family is superior to all others, and that person is rhaenyra here. It undermines the idea that no one was in the right for the atrocities they committed. No one can be justified and that fundamentally, these are not good people, they're interesting characters (or could've been interesting characters), but they're not good people.
So why? Why are the blacks presented as the good side and the greens presented as evil? It all comes down to the fact that the showrunners have propagated the idea that the dance is about a woman's struggle to rule in the face of misogyny, rather than the decline of house targaryen due to their belief in targaryen exceptionalism or the consequences of the pursuit of power. Sure, feminism and misogyny is one aspect of the dance, but it's not a major driving factor. The showrunners have backed themselves into a corner here, because they trying to portray the dance through a modern feminist lens, and so they believe that they can't write women being flawed or evil, and so we get the free, liberated good side and the "misogynistic", conservative bad side.
So in conclusion, it is clear that the showrunners aren't villainising the blacks as this person believes, but the greens. In doing this, they've made a clear cut good and bad side which works to the detriment of both team black and team green. It leads team green's characterisation to be inconsistent and one-dimensional and it chokes team black from having character growth.
Listen, i don't know if team black truly have less screen time than team green, but if they do, it's not the reason why team black falls flat.
#i don't think anyone's gonna be reading this but i wanted to put my feelings out there#aegon ii targaryen#anti rhaenyra targaryen#<- just in case#it's not that i hate her it's just that i think her character was handled poorly#team green#hotd critical#hotd

so this is how blood & cheese should have went down if hotd had actual good writers: the plotline starts with rhaenyra wailing and sobbing over luke's death on dragonstone. daemon tries to console her as much as he can stand to do so. she tells him that she wants them dead, every single last one of those traitors. daemon grins of course, because this is how he raised her to be: a vengeful, spoiled, hateful, vindictive monster (he has been grooming her since she was 8 years old to hate her half-siblings after all). the next scene in this plotline would have us see to daemon and mysaria in bed together in harrenhal, where he painstakingly details out what he wants her to do exactly. he gives not just mysaria, but us, the viewers, word for word the sequence of events that he wants to happen on the night of the assassination. we the viewers are deeply horrified by his orders, because what he orders is monstrous. book readers would be kept on their toes, because surely the show would change this event in some ways, right? daemon describing it exactly as it was in the book has to be a red herring right?, is what they would be thinking. and show-only watchers would be on the edge of their seats wondering throughout the entirety of the episode if something so horrific would actually take place on screen. both book readers and show watchers would be left with the question of, is this seriously what's going to happen? no fucking way..., when watching the episode unfold. the next scenes concerning the plotline would be mysaria hiring blood and cheese, a scene or two establishing their characters, them getting intel on where helaena and the kids will be, talking about how difficult it would be to break into maegor's holdfast bc of all the guards so the only option is the tower of the hand ... and then eventually night falls over king's landing and we are in the red keep. we'll be near the end of the episode, like the last 15 minutes, and we follow cheese as he leads blood through the tunnels to the tower of the hand where alicent's room is. earlier in the ep we learned helaena always takes the kiddos there to say goodnight to grandma. they sneak into the room where they strangle her maid, kill the guards in front of the door quietly, and beat alicent until she's knocked out and they tie her up and gag her so she cannot be heard. then cheese goes to stand next to the door in preparation for helaena's arrival, while blood sits on a sofa facing the door. the next scenes would be focused on helaena as she gathers the kiddos to go from maegor's holdfast to the tower of the hand, and we are getting eerie, dark gothic grunge vibes from the camera shots as she gets these weird premonitions, shivers crawling up her spine. but she still goes to the tower of the hand, while the viewers would be screaming and yelling and crying and sobbing at the tv begging her not to go there. but helaena goes anyway because this is a canon event baby. i told you in the beginning of the episode what was going to happen :^) and then it happens exactly as described in both f&b and earlier in the ep by daemon. the beheading would of course not be shown but i would have jaehaerys' blood spray all over helaena and alicent while she does the ellaria scream and alicent is crying unable to do anything bc her hands are bound behind her back and she has a gag in her mouth. the final few shots of the episode would be in slow motion (all the while you hear helaena's screams) as the entire red keep hears this harrowed shrieking and so the guards and the maids and the servants all run to alicent's rooms and we see the pools of blood underneath everyone's feet as they go in and out of the room then finally we come to the last shot of the episode which is aegon's frightened face as he slowly walks through the chaos, puts his hand on the slightly closed door, pushes it open (all the while we hear helaena's unending screams), and he quietly says, "jaehaerys?" roll credits.
that's how you write and adapt a fucking book scene @ ryan condal & co you pieces of worthless shit.
#im glad i read the leaks bc i already went through the stages of grief#would be awful if i saw this dogshit adaptation of b&c for the first time right now#hotd#hotd critical#anti hotd#aegon ii#helaena#alicent#jaehaerys targaryen#jaehaera targaryen#maelor targaryen#bakma bana

―✧˖° ♛ °˖✧―
★ aemond targaryen
You are not a highborn lady or any type of Targaryen or Velaryon Princess, you met Aemond in the bowels of Flea Bottom at a tavern by chance, not knowing who he was. The two of you connected, talking until dawn about adventure and the history of Valyria
Aemond was charmed by your ignorance of his standing in society, reveling in the secret but simple life affair
It wasn’t two months later that you figured it out. A gold cloak addresses him by his title out in the streets in a tavern. You’re not thrilled by this revelation and in fact swear to never see him again but he’s persistent, determined to keep you
It doesn’t take long for the two of you to resume your relationship and suddenly-
You’re pregnant a year into your affair with the one-eyed prince, he was overjoyed with the news but you were scared he was going to abandon you like his elder brother had done time and time again
You call him mad and laugh, thinking it's some sort of cruel jest when he confesses his intent to marry you and make you royalty. He will not raise a bastard, he says as you kick him out of your small one room
It takes a month before you finally accept his proposal, it took sleepless nights and worried days before finally talking yourself into his idea as a good one
There are no flowers except the ones he brought you at dawn on your wedding day, it is a warm sunny morning when you both enter the sept of Baelor, a skeptical high septon, and his sworn guard
It is rushed but Aemond is determined and ready as he swears his vows and barely waits for you to finish your own before kissing you hard
You have never met a dragon before when Aemond takes you before Vhagar and tells you that you’ll be riding south for a fortnight, there is no fear that runs in your veins but excitement
You spend a sennight in Dorne, hidden away from the world, unbeknownst to the wrath awaiting you and Aemond in the Red Keep
Alicent is cold and unwilling to understand the situation. It is not easy or happy meeting for you.
★ criston cole
After the dance of dragons, criston cole is given a choice. To be stripped of his white cloak die within the cells of the Red Keep or to be stripped of his white cloak, return to Dorne and live a quiet life out of the realms politics. Cole chooses the latter, of course. It’s far more kindly than what he assumed would be his fate.
Dorne is not what he remembers it being, it’s dry and vast with little in it’s lands. Cole doesn’t consider this desert his home.
His father was not proud of him, but he needs to still secure the house lineage and secures a marriage pact
As the youngest daughter of house Dayne, you’re not thrilled at the prospect of marrying the fool (one of many nicknames they’ve aptly named Criston in Dorne). You have only heard of the most vile and selfish stories about your now betrothed.
When you first meet Criston Cole, you’re shocked. He’s attractive, his hair has grown out to his shoulders and there’s a scar running down his neck but the weeks leading up to your meeting you had envisioned all sorts of monstrosities, considering you and the realm had decided he was a cruel inept monster
He is quiet and replies with a soft voice, you’re puzzled how the ex-Lord Commander and Hand of the King for the traitor king is gentle. However it is hard to see past what he has done to tear the realm apart
When your wedding day comes around, he replaces your cloak with a rough cloth with colourless dots adorning the back. House Cole is not wealthy and the dowry wasn’t large.
He kisses you well not really. His rough hands squeezes your own gently and barely brushing his lips to your cheek
There is no feast, just a family meal that is supplied well with meat and wine in the gardens well into the evening
The bedding is just like his kiss, hardly anything to recount to your sisters or companions. It isn’t romantic and your sure he doesn’t even finish. You hope that this isn’t what it’ll always be
★ jace velaryon
Growing up alongside your future husband isn’t the norm, but you are glad for it. As many ladies are stuck with brutes and old men for husbands
Jace has matured into a handsome man that you can’t bare to look at without blushing. With every look he gives you, you can’t help but turn your head with cheeks red
But despite your embarrassment, you are both more than excited to finally be married
You opt for a traditional Valyrian wedding, the same as Rhaenyra and Daemon had done. There was no fancy ceremony with cloaks of golden threads, just Jace and you
Sleep did not come the night before, as the excitement and giddiness ran through you like shots of lightning. You couldn’t even feel the exhaustion in your muscles as you readied yourself in the robes and headpiece
Jace could not find sleep himself, as he was too excited as well at the prospect of finally calling you his
Jace’s eyes watered while waiting for you, he choked on his Valyrian as you laughed at his sweet mistake
The kiss wasn’t needy or greedy, but it wasn’t the cordial kiss of the Lords & Ladies of the Seven would display. It was tender and loving and gentle.
The feast was celebrated through the night and full of laughter. When it came to the bedding ceremony, you and Jace instead fell asleep quite quickly in your now shared bed
However the next evening…

Note: Hello my babies, this has certainly been a build up, say 98 chapters long? Thank you all so much for your love, and messages, and support, I really hope you enjoy the way I eventually end SF&A. This was originally two shorter chapters, but I decided to combine them together instead. Bold italics are inner thoughts and flash backs as per usual. I have so much more I want to say but won't because you want to read it, and obviously we will talk after!!! Enjoy <3
Chapter 98: Hand Turns Loom, Hen Kasta naejot Zōbrie
When your mother had been crowned, you remember the day clearly.
How all the Lords and Ladies around you, knights, Maesters, maids; all those in her presence bent the knee.
All but Rhaenys.
How the sound of their rustling robes, their shifting pommels of armour, or clanking of their swords filled the air around you.
How your heart had swelled with pride, how deep and pure it had been. How you had felt adoration, devotion, and had no second thought about digging your knee into the ground below, bowing your head to your Queen.
But now, your knees would not budge, not even if you had wanted them to.
They did not bend, or creak, or crack.
They locked.
Refusing to drop down to the stone floor below. Refusing to meet the cold, hard surface, which would no doubt send crawling ice up your knees and body, but not only that, it would be to give in.
To give up.
To bend the knee to a monster.
And you had endured far too much to do that.
Too far to turn back now.
You would not bend the knee to Aegon, and so there you stood, in the throne room, before the Iron Throne, and the Small Council, refusing to kneel.
Refusing to swear him as your King.
Refusing to back down.
Gods be good.
Be on my side.
You could feel the heated gaze of your husband, and yet you did not tear your own away from the man before you, who took slow and calculated steps, each one echoing into the sparse hall as his boots thumped against the stones.
You did not try to move, nor would you have had the chance with the guards behind you, their presence coming closer. The warmth of their bodies behind you made the hair on the back of your neck to stand on end.
His violet eyes bore into your own.
His own flesh and blood.
His niece.
Your uncle.
Someone you had grown up beside. Someone who you had played with, and laughed with, and fought with. Someone who had grown into the monster he was today. And so he stalked towards you, and still you did not kneel.
Aegon, watching your refusal, looked to the guards on either side of you, and nodded.
Dracarys, Lucerys whispered in your mind.
Your knees hit the ground with a resounding crack, pain shooting up the both of them as the guards had grabbed you by each shoulder and forced you to the stone floor. Aemond shifted in your periphery, and you saw Alicent go to him quickly, grabbing his arm to keep him back, and yet you could not take your eyes away from the man who stood before you, hand resting atop the hilt of his sword, Conquerors Crown atop his silver waves.
This was it.
Today the Stranger comes for me.
Aegon smiled down at you as he watched you come to the realisation. And yet still, you made no move to swear yourself to him. No move to call him King. No move to save yourself. And although you had been forced to your knees before him, you had not bent them of your own accord.
“The punishment for a crime like this is death.” Aegon boomed to the chambers, voice echoing off the stone walls, his steps becoming slower as he came closer towards you, "I could have you hanged on the wall, or send you to the butchers block. Perhaps I could even feed you to Sunfyre.”
“Aegon.” Aemond's voice came from behind, clipped and short, held back by the last threads of his resolve.
You let yourself look at your husband, and saw that he had made his way closer, though Alicent still stood in front of him, hand on his chest as an act of a human barricade between her two sons.
Holding him back.
“Silence.” Aegon boomed, “Ser Otto, if Aemond speaks again, have him arrested and taken down to the cells where he can stay until the sentence has been served.”
You had thought to look to Aemond with your eyes for help, to beg for him to come to you, but all you had seen was the same man who had left you the last time you were here.
There was no saving you this time.
Dracarys.
The Small Council remained silent, not even Otto Hightower seemed to think he could talk reason into the King, and so he stood, eyes looking over the top of you at the opposite side of the throne Aemond was.
The King hummed, looking down his nose at you as a wide smile cracked across his pink lips, “Or…" He breathed, "You could take your place at my side as my wife.”
Wife.
Wife.
Ice ran down your back as you looked at him, your heart beating rapidly in your chest, fingers tingling from the grip the guards had on your shoulders and arms.
It was in that moment, that you knew there was no going back from this.
Dracarys.
“Annul your marriage to my brother in the eyes of the Seven, and I shall take you as my second wife.” He purred, the proposition sounding as though it was a benevolent offering, when all those who were present truly knew the more sinister reasoning behind it, “You may atone for your sins and crimes by birthing me heirs, as is your purpose, whilst also upholding the terms of the treaty. An honour given to you which you don’t deserve.”
You jolted forward, grunting, trying to rip the arms of the guards from you so that you could launch yourself forward. Muscles in your arms burning from the struggle.
You were going to die.
And you would not go down without ripping his throat out with your teeth.
The guards hands tightened further, seams of your gown ripping as you struggled from below. Your eyes flicked momentarily to Aemond again, who looked as though he was fighting a battle of his own, but you knew, deep down you knew, he would do nothing.
As he always had.
And so you kept your eyes on the brother in front of you.
“My Husband-“ You began, venom dripping from your tongue.
“-Is my brother.” Aegon snipped, “And swore himself to me as King. He is bound by duty to the realm, and duty to the Crown. Aemond should be honoured that I would take his wife as my own. You would be wed to a King, not a second son.”
You sneered, trying to throw yourself forward at him, but Aegon did not flinch, and the guards pulled you backwards hastily, knees grazed by the stones below.
“Fuck you.” You hissed, teeth grinding against each other, heat in your cheeks, and blood thumping in your veins.
Dracarys.
The King laughed, head thrown back and violet eyes shut before he locked them back onto you. He smiled appreciatively, eyes roaming down your face, to the tight bodice of your dress and the way your skirts clung to your waist, all the way down to your knees on the stone.
“You are ready to serve me, as you are.” Your eldest uncle turned his head to look back at Aemond, “I will make her a good wife, one that can be tamed. One who will obey and follow orders, and all the while the treaty will be held. I am far more capable of tending to her needs, and a marriage to me is far better than death.”
You swirled your tongue in your mouth before spitting upon Aegon’s leather boots, “I will kill myself before I ever let you touch me again. I will throw myself from the window Helaena did rather than have your monster grow inside of me. And then my family will come you. Fire and blood, they will come. And you will die.”
The pain came before you registered what had happened, the sting spreading across your cheek as your head snapped to the side of the room, eyes trained tearily on the floor.
Alicent was heard in the background, hissing to her younger son, "Stop!"
Your ears rang, and you tasted the coppery tang of blood in your mouth.
You slowly turned your head back to the King, hair having fallen over your face from where it had come loose from your braids. You spat a bloody glob of spit at him again, attempting to aim higher, but the blood merely sprayed towards him and landed at his feet.
Dracarys.
His eyes narrowed, and his lips pulled back into a sneer.
“The Princess must have a weapon on hand. Strip her.” Aegon commanded, eyes jerking towards Ser Cole, who shuffled awkwardly on his feet.
Your head snapped towards the knight, “Touch me, and I will kill you. I’ll fucking kill you, Cole.”
Ser Criston Cole, a man sworn to his King, known as King Maker, stood dumbly as he looked to you and then to the man who commanded him. His tan skin was flushed at his neck, a pinkish purple spreading up from beneath the breastplate he wore, and his piercing eyes darting back and forth in decision.
This was not the first time that Ser Cole had been commanded to act in way that was not in protection of who he was sworn to.
Once before with Alicent.
And now with her son.
The Dowager Queen made quick steps towards you both, “Aegon.” She growled, leaving her younger son behind as her feet echoed on the stone floor, "Stop this madness."
You desperately tried to wriggle out of the guards grip, hissing and grunting, knees digging painfully into the stones as your dress ripped beneath.
A knight came towards Alicent, hand held outwards towards her in preventing her from coming any further, “The treaty, Aegon. Think of how Rhaenyra will react when she hears about this!”
Aegon snapped his head towards his mother, “Fuck the treaty.” He sneered, looking back at Ser Cole, “I command you to strip this traitor, and reveal the weapon she no doubt hides on her person.”
Ser Cole swayed, his long, white cloak grazing against the cold stone floors as he started to slowly approach you, eyes on you with a look of regret. A look of apprehension.
One of pity. One of guilt. One of disgust.
They were going to strip you.
Before all the eyes of the Council.
“You’re a monster.” You hissed, ripping a hand from one of the guards, reaching out to grasp at the King’s robes who stood in front of you, fingertips grazing his breeches.
For the first time, Aegon flinched backwards, and the guards rushed forward again, yanking you backwards and holding your arms behind you as you cussed, and cursed at them all, pain rippling through your arms.
“Kostagon se Jaes' ossēnagon jeme! Kostagon pōnta ivestragī nyke urnēbagon jeme zālagon. Kostagon pōnta tepagon nyke se kustikāne naejot gaomagon ziry nykēla. Jaelan naejot urnēbagon se ōños fade hen aōha qogralbar laesi skori gaoman ziry.”
May the Gods kill you all! May they let me watch you all burn. May they give me the strength to do it myself. I want to watch the light fade from your fucking eyes when I do it.
Aegon leant forward, looking down at you as you struggled, voice quieter now, tutting, “I still remember how wet your cunt had been. How much you bled, and cried. How you called out for my brother. For your father. Kepa!" He mocked you, your stomach roiled and rage nipped at you hotly.
Dracarys.
"I wish it had been me,” He smiled cruelly, “I wish I had taken your maidenhead, like I should have taken it years ago. I should have fucked a bastard into you before you left the Keep.”
Tears welled in your eyes as you looked at him, lips curling back in disgust.
Baring your teeth back at him, you pulled at the guards grip, “You are nothing but a worthless, drunken, whoring King, who took naught but a moment until you spilled yourself inside of me. You are the most pathetic excuse for a man."
The King's face rippled with anger, brows drawn as his chest began to heave.
Ser Cole stood to the side, uncertain of what to do, unwilling to move again until commanded, Ser Otto watching with a stoney face, the Small Council shifting on their feet, all the while Alicent stood behind, guard preventing her from moving forward.
The chambers fell still, and Aegon sucked in his cheeks, gathering the spit inside of his mouth, pursing his lips to spit upon you.
A wet warmth landed upon your cheek.
-
It had been a warm day in Kings Landing.
The small folk had flocked to the beaches, dipping their toes and their clothes into the cold waves, desperate to cool off.
The Red Keep was no different.
Men and women gathered in the shade, or sat in their chambers, fans in hand, whilst servants served them cool cups of ale and wine.
Aegon, being the eldest, had devised a plan to keep cool that day. You were all to hide amongst the secret passageways, the cold stone walls protecting you all from the heat outside, but being the kids that you were, it would not stop you from playing.
“Let the girl get the treats.” Aegon smiled, light leaking into the passageway from the room beside it.
“Why do I have to go to the Kitchens?” You argued, annoyance rolling through you.
Aegon looked to your brothers, and then shortly to Aemond, who all stood in front of you in a line, “Because you’re a girl. One day you’ll be someone’s wife and have to fetch things for your husband. I’m giving you practice.”
Luc and Jace looked at each other, and snickered, though their laughter fell when you gazed at them angrily, “If you want the treats so badly, why don’t you get them. I’m not a maid.” You huffed, folding your arms across your chest.
Aemond shuffled beside his brother, looking down at the dusty floor, scuffing the tip of his shoe into the surface.
Aegon smirked, “You’d be a pretty maid. Mine are all so dull and plain.”
“I’m not going.”
Aegon looked at the three boys beside him, “All in favour for Y/n going to get us treats?” His hand shot up as he loudly proclaimed ‘Aye.’
Jace and Lucerys followed suit, hands lower and voices even lower, their brown eyes refusing to meet yours.
All turned to Aemond, who did not speak, and had raised his violet eyes towards you.
“Come on brother, don’t be a twat.” Aegon chided.
“He’s not a twat, you cunt.” You snipped back.
Aegon laughed, “Come on, niece, play nicely. I’ll even give you a kiss.” Aegon puckered his lips towards you, making kissing noises whilst Jace and Luc scrunched their face in disgust and laughed.
“Leave her alone.” Aemond growled, finally speaking up.
The eldest Prince looked at your two brothers before bursting into laughter, “Sticking up for your love, Aem?”
“Shut up, Aegon.” You snapped.
“Make me.” He grinned, stepping towards you as he pushed you to the ground, you landed on your back with an grunt, staring daggers at Aegon as you jumped up, moving to punch him.
Your eldest uncle was jolted from the side, falling into the narrow walls of the pathway, a cry falling from his lips. His pale hands scrambling to catch himself as he fell into the stone.
Aemond stood, chest heaving as he watched his brother come to the realisation that he had pushed him.
“You little-“
Aegon jumped at Aemond, grabbing him by the scruff of his collar, jerking the younger boy around.
Jace and Luc watched on with wide eyes as you raced forward, "Let go of him!” You screamed.
Aegon’s arm cast out to the side and pushed you to the floor again, your head hitting the stone wall behind you.
You blinked, eyes filling with tears.
Aegon immediately let go of his brother and looked down at you. A tear rolled down your cheek as the back of your head throbbed, a hand coming to rub against the spot of impact.
Aemond raced over to you, kneeling down to check your head.
He turned to his brother, “I’m telling mother.”
Aegon sensing that there was no more fun to be had, spun around and left the secret passage, your brothers following closely behind, casting short glances to you to see if you were okay.
You sniffed, trying to blink away the tears in the shadows, but Aemond didn’t point them out. He came to sit beside you, back against the bricks, and you let your head drop onto his shoulder.
“Your brother is such a dick.”
Aemond sighed in agreement.
-
The floor of the throne room was cold.
Icy even.
Despite the beams of sun that landed colourfully onto the floor, streaming in through the stained glass windows, the stone would never warm. They would stay the same, icy, coldness that they always had been.
Unforgiving.
And they were just that, unforgiving.
Laid down beneath a tower of melted and twisted metal, made from an unforgiving King. A throne that lacked a soft edge, a show of compassion or kindness, even to those who were seated upon it.
The Iron Throne, for all intents and purposes, was just that.
Unforgiving.
Sharp and cold, made entirely of blades from those who had been conquered, those who had been slain, those who had fallen. And now your family sat atop it. A show of your ancestor, Aegon the First and all of his triumph. All of his power.
All of his mercilessness.
The skin of your cheek felt wet, Lucerys had stopped his whispering, and the world around you was oddly quiet. As though your ears had been stuffed with cotton, the muffled sound of the room around you making it hard to discern what was happening. And yet still, there was this odd feeling that spread around your chest.
Like the stone floors of the Iron Throne chambers, it was cold.
Icy.
They had always been a brilliant violet colour.
Your families legacy paired with the silver locks. And Aegon’s eyes had always been so telling of his moods, just like his brother. Telling of his thoughts, like a window to his inner workings and mechanisms.
It was always so.
They would dance when he was mischievous as a child, and as he got older, they would deepen with unspoken grief and paranoia.
But when Aegon was angry, they would become alight. Seemingly brightened by the flames that would lick him hotly at his cheeks, the colour lightening and eyes having more movement.
It’s how it always was.
And as you looked into Aegon’s eyes, you realised how much they had changed already.
The rage that had been dancing and swaying behind his eyes not a moment before, was now gone. Like a fire that had been snuffed out, a light that had been trampled upon, a lamp that had been extinguished. And now they looked up at you blankly, as you blinked down at them from below.
The noises around you became louder as you continued to stare.
A woman was screaming.
Why was she screaming?
Guards were crying out, men were cursing, and all you could do, was look at the head on the floor in front of your knees, and the blood that slowly leaked from its neck and mouth, seeping into the material of your skirts.
You wished she would stop screaming.
Someone kept saying your name, but you could not tear your eyes from the man below you. His silver waves were tinged with red as the blood spread into his silky strands, his mouth agape, but silent.
Finally silent.
His eyes were what really changed.
They were dull.
Lifeless, and almost grey looking.
Gone.
Aegon’s body was slumped beside it, arms and legs bent at unnatural angles, and blood leaking out onto the cold stones below. The thinner sections of blood had already begun to coagulate, the coldness sucking out any warmth from it and seeping into the porous surface beneath.
Life that spread and was soaked up greedily.
Like so many times before, the stones were fed with the essence of another.
How many more would face the same fate?
The coldness in your chest melted away, and a warmth spread through it, travelling up your throat, until it left your lips in a breathy laugh.
And then it kept coming.
And it did not stop.
You stared at Aegon’s head and laughed.
It was not something that you could have stopped if you had wanted it to, it did not even feel like you were in your own body, looking down from somewhere else in the room, perhaps even over your own shoulder. But the more you laughed, the louder the woman’s screams became, until someone spoke your name again, but louder.
You blinked, finally tearing your eyes away from the corpse of your uncle, the man who had raped you. The man who had driven your aunt to death. The man who had usurped the throne from your mother.
The man who had dealt so much cruelty.
And your eyes were met with, not the dull, lifeless violet that you had once been staring at, but instead a vision of violet and sapphire.
Aemond.
The Prince stood in front of you, looking down with a hard and stony face, jaw clenched and lips pressed into a line. Like his brother, his eye was the window to his soul, and flickering in the background was rage.
His shoulders were stiff, his body was tensed, and yet a hand was held out, steady towards you, palm up, scar revealed. The other was holding his sword tightly, body in a fighting stance, the blade dripping with thick viscous blood.
The blood of his brother.
Movement was all around you, and the woman still would not stop screaming.
Aemond barked at the room, “Hold!”
And the room fell still again.
All but the woman who screamed, and the men who cursed quietly beneath their breath.
You stared at Aemond's hand, the scar on his palm looking soft and pink, travelling up the length of pale skin. And with your own, you lifted and placed it in his, the strength of his arm pulling you to stand.
You knees popped and stung as you stood, the skin rubbed raw by the stone floors, dress ripped in some places. Guards stood dumbly on the side of the room unsure of what to do, all in shock.
Your husband flicked his blade to the side, blood spraying off of it onto the stones.
More food to feed them.
Aemond sheathed it back into its holder on his hip with one hand, the other holding yours firmly.
God you wished she would stop screaming.
Aemond bent down to the corpse of his brother, no regret, or grief on his face, instead a steady blanket of disgust and hatred instead. With his long fingers, he scooped the Conquerors Crown from the stone floor, looking down at it as he turned it slowly in his hand above Aegon.
The metal glinted, and the ruby in its centre glowed when the light shone over of it.
“What have you done?!” The woman screamed again, your head turning to see Alicent being held back by her father and guards, “What have you done?!”
Ser Otto Hightower, stood with nothing but shock in his eyes as he looked between his two grandsons, the one on the floor, and the one standing above him. His arms were wrapped around Alicent’s chest, keeping her pressed against him as she thrashed.
“He was to be our undoing.” Aemond stated bluntly, voice loud within the chambers.
Ser Cole did not move.
The Small Council did not move.
And all that could be heard was the screams of a grieving mother.
“Ser Cole.” Aemond gave the man what appeared to be a silent order.
Cole was a man who had been a father figure to him. A man who had trained him in swordsmanship and battle. A man who he had grown beside and watched support his mother.
And Ser Criston Cole obeyed, staying where he was, and all other guards and knights followed.
Your eyes roamed down his body, to where the white cloak, pinned to the pommels of his armour, soaked the blood of the King on the floor below. It tinged the white a deep red, and bled up the material, as though it had been thirsting for blood this whole time, much like the stones.
Aegon was dead.
And Aemond had killed him.
“What have you done, Aemond?! Your brother! The King!” Alicent cried, voice distressed as she screamed at her only surviving child.
Aemond ignored his mother, turning to you, a singular word falling from his lips.
“Come.”
The throne room was filled with your footfall as Aemond led you towards the Iron throne, Alicent’s cries which had turned to soft sobs, and the whispers of the Small Council.
No-one brave enough to speak up, or out against the Prince.
Aemond walked up the throne steps, as though he was born for it, as though he had practised each step with perfection. Each step taken was with purpose, as though he knew it was his true duty and right.
And you followed after, hand still in his, mind still in a daze.
You stared at the Iron Throne as he turned softly to sit himself upon it.
He looked comfortable.
At home.
Perfectly fitted for it, as though he was made for it.
With a look of determination, he handed you the crown, the heavy metal resting in both of your hands as you look down at it.
Alicent cried louder.
The room was still.
You locked eyes with Aemond’s violet and sapphire gaze.
And lifted the crown to place it atop his head.

I’m just curious but do you have examples of good dragon anatomy in media? It’s ok if not or you don’t wanna share I’m just curious.
In media? whew, really hard to say. Often in media dragons will either have spoon wings (even if the rest of the dragon is good, like in hotd) or be shrinkwrapped :[
Toothless from httyd got it PRETTYYYYY CLOSE, the big wings dont go all the way down to the base BUT the secondary wings he has actually finish that part of the base and fill in that gap, and the fins on the tail tip are just so swag because they add lift to the tail tip as well
Saphira from the Eragon movie actually had GENUINELY TURBOSWAG wings!!! Like these are genuinely damn near perfect for the time. They're missing the wing slots on the tips BUT WE'LL ALLOW IT. Especially when these are so hard to make and back then especially
They could genuinely have more base to them, she does have a mild case of spoon wings but they are MUCH more proportionate than like... most others lmao.
uhhh uhhhh. I'm... actually REALLY struggling to think of basically any other media with good wings LMAO... the wing industry is in shambles. Most of the media with dragons in it has spoon wings (or worse). I feel like I've talked about one thing or another with good (or decent) wing anatomy but I cannot for the life of me remember anything right now.
Soooo...... to make up for that here's some BAD bad dragon anatomy in media:
From "dragons a fantasy made real". 1. what the fuck. 2. ???? i just dont know what to say its got it all. Shrinkwrapping, small spoon wings, nonsensical attachment to the back, etc. I love this movie to death but watching it when im older and Know Things is a curse
Dragonheart. I have not seen this movie but What The Fuck is going on there. Attach those wings son!!!! Theyre just flopping around!!!
Every single monster hunter monster with wings is uh. Very questionable. None of them have the patagium either which is A Crime. As much as I love the franchise TO DEATH the wings is something that irks me constantly lskdhsdfklj
They did actually do rathalos better for monster hunter world though! but its still got a bit of spoon wings. Its better, but still not very good
Malefor from spyro <3 what the fuck <3 we forgive him because its a stylized came but he's flying on sheer willpower those wings are doing nothing for him. Nor for every other dragon in the franchise
And last but certainly not least:
Why. Just why. That's not a wing anymore.

I just saw that you write for doctor who and hotd too, although I don't know if you write for 11th and Daemon, I'll try my luck anyway…. I wonder if I could get a Daemon x wife poc!reader x 11th doctor in which Reader is Daemon's wife and one day she is taking a walk when she meets the doctor (she kind of mistakes him for Daem, if that makes sense) and after she realizes it's not him, they start talking and she is kind of fascinated by the doctor (not only by his appearance, but by his entire work). So she invites him to their house (whether it's the red keep or dragonstone, it's up to you) and Daemon, who has just returned from a walk with Caraxes sees reader with a man, previously unknown, and goes to them. Then reader introduces them and comments on the similarity between them. She suggests that they spend the day together and Dae is a little reluctant, but ends up accepting, so they go out and in the meantime reader and 11th are kind of flirting (in a innocent) and Daemon is jealous (which reader loves, because she loves to tease him) At the end of the day Daemon and 11th have a talk about how lucky he is to have her and that he should take care of her. Before leaving, the Doctor promises the reader that he will visit her again (this after she asked him to stay the night, but he refused) when the TARDIS disappears, reader tells Daemon that he doesn't need to be jealous, because She is his and only he has her love and then they kiss (if it's too much, feel free to ignore it) please? (sorry for my English)
okay this is definitely not too much because, from the detail, i know you've daydreamed this before and i absolutely love it and you basically wrote it for me, i just need to fluff it up!!! thank you so much
fic requests go here
daemon targaryen x reader x 11th doctor
summary; the curious man you met on your walk piques both your interest and daemon's inner green monster
unnerving
You would never admit it to your fiery paramour, but you much preferred Dragonstone over The Red Keep. The ocean scented wind was wild in your hair, wisps pulling free from your braids. You held your slippers in one hand and the hem of your dress in the other, reveling in the sand between your toes.
This had became a morning routine for you and Daemon, him to go and give Caraxes some exercise while you enjoy some time alone on the shoreline. Although, from the shoulders you could see on the bluff, it seems as though he finished up earlier than usual this morning.
You didn't care how long you'd spent with the young Targaryen man; you were never less excited to see him. The fire that started at your stomach and reached for your cheeks blazed just as brightly each time for him. You hurried your pace, climbing the short stone stairs to the outlook you beloved stood at.
"Daemo-" Your exclamation was cut a bit short by the realization that this man... was most certainly not Daemon.
From up close you could see the differences, namely being the short brown hair. This man also had a loose feeling to his stance, leaned against the small statue of Caraxes that overlooked the ocean. He was looking at you then, eyes the same hazel green but a different shade - lighter. A kindness illuminating and curiosity illuminating them that Daemon would be adverse to.
You finally had the good sense to be concerned. Dropping the hem of your gown and taking a step away, your smile was sheepish as you curtsied. "Pardon the interruption, Ser. I merely mistook you for my husband."
"Your husband must be a handsome fellow!" Their voices even mirrored each other. "You can call me the doctor! Not a doctor, just the Doctor. Do you happen to know where we are?" The twin emphasized his question with a vague gesture at their surroundings, eyebrows pinching together. "This is a new one for me."
You cocked your head to the side, curious as to his strange way of speaking. How does one come to be somewhere without knowing where there is?
"You're at Dragonstone on the Black Water Bay. The castle is just up the hill." You pointed up and watched his eyebrows raise.
"The castle? I love a good castle. Who's is that? Can we go take a peek?"
Your laugh was light, deciding that even if he didn't match your husband, you just might like the stranger. "It's my husband, Daemon Targaryen's, ancestral home. Let's go take a look, I'm sure he would be riveted to meet you."
---
Daemon thoroughly enjoyed the routine he had found with his wife. No other woman had ever come close to rooting themselves this deeply into his life, and the white haired man didn't think he would ever meet another that could.
You understood his boundaries and his need for space. You were fiercely independent, which made Daemon all the more happy to try and outdo himself for you. Knowing you could care for yourself either way.
Now that Daemon was thinking about it, as he was patting his dragon goodbye, he was going to hunt you down this minute from your expected place on the beach below and have his way with you. Wherever you stood.
How good it felt to be king in his lands.
Just as he turned to start his mission, your laughter could be heard from the other side of the overlook. Smirking to himself, wondering about his impeccable timing, he changed direction toward the sound of your voice.
That's when he heard it. Another voice. A mans voice?
Daemon's playful smile quickly fell, something only to be described as a snarl taking its place. His pace quickened, turning the corner by the stables just in time to see you crest the hill with a vaguely familiar man.
He shook his head, making straight for you. Familiarity didn't fucking matter. These were his lands, his home and his wife. Who in the living fuck was mingling with his wife, all alone on the beach?
"Darling." Daemon's voice was loud and firm, the endearment sounding strange from him. "Are you alright?"
Your attention was on your husband instantly, smile radiating like the rising sun behind you. "Daemon! We were just coming to find you. This is the Doctor, he is.. visiting? I thought you would like to meet."
Daemon had come to stand right before you when his hand reached to grip your arm, pulling you firmly but gently to his side. "Visiting is it, Doctor?"
Eleven was as unbothered as they come typically, but he could not deny that the man standing across from him was his carbon copy. Sans the long, luscious white locks. Should Eleven grow his hair out? "Visiting it is, mate! Your lovely wife thought we might have a few things in common."
Daemon did not like the insinuation that they were similar, even if the appearance may be glaringly obvious. "Is your brother a king and your dragon as fierce as mine, then?"
Feeling his standoffish posture, your hand made light circles on his back while your gaze reprimanded him. "Daemon, he's just here to-"
"I'm sorry but did you say you have a dragon? That is probably the most badass thing I've ever heard, and I've been just about everywhere." Eleven was smiling like a kid in a candy store, gaze searching the sky above them like a dragon was going to swoop in at any minute. "How does one, uhm, see this dragon?"
Daemon's pride and ego battled each other for a split second before he bit out a reply. "I suppose we could go and see the dragon pits, so you know what the Targaryens are so feared for."
"Oh, wonderful! They're beautiful, Doctor, you'll love them." Grasping your husbands hand in your own, you began leading them across the clearing.
The day went similarly.
Eleven was so excited about the baby dragons that he thought he might have to come back in the dead of night to take one for himself, but quickly realized there had to be some karmic justice for stealing from yourself, right? Because Daemon Targaryen had to be some weird extension of him, they were basically copy-pasted.
Daemon did not like the Doctor one bit, almost specifically because of the smile on your face that he felt should be reserved for him. The stranger could sing praises about Dragonstone all he wanted but it wouldn't distract him from the fact that his wife seemed utterly smitten with the man.
You were having fun. The Doctor was a funny man, asking the strangest things. Like 'How do you spell Targaryen?' and 'How long have you been a monarchy?'
"What's a monarchy?" You didn't understand what was so hilarious about your husbands reply, but the Doctor was laughing like a giddy child.
It wasn't very often that you got visitors here, especially considering Daemon's nefarious past. It was a nice change, and so was the green encroaching upon your husbands face.
Every time the Doctor said something particularly funny and you couldn't help the full belly laugh you gave, Daemon's eyes narrowed a bit more. You'd be lying if you said you didn't enjoy his jealousy. The tightness around his eyes as he assessed whether or not you were having just too much fun with the other man.
You made sure to assuage him with kisses throughout the day, small pecks here and there to show your loyalty. But you definitely didn't stop laughing.
By the end of your adventures, with the sun kissing the rolling hills of the island, the Doctor decided that he liked you very much. You reminded him of Amy, sure headed and sparky. You seemed like you had a good life here, full of dragons and fantasy. This was definitely one that Eleven was going to tell River about.
"Are you sure you have to leave?" Daemon stood a mere few feet away from their goodbye, refusing to budge another inch. "The castle has plenty of rooms that can be made-"
"My dragons eat strangers at nightfall."
"Daemon. He doesn't mean that, you'd be more than welcome." You rolled your eyes at his typical bravado, keeping your eyes on the ones that matched his.
"I unfortunately have other engagements that need my attention tonight, Y/N. But I had a lovely day. Thank you for showing me your home." Eleven's smile was warm, and genuine. He would miss this little corner of the multiverse, he was sure of it.
"Maybe you can come and visit again?" Daemon's scoff of disbelief was ignored by both.
"I will definitely pop by again. I need to see little fiery breath all grown up! I'd like to chat with your husband for a moment, before I leave."
With your eyebrow raised, assessing the two men, you gave a nod of dissent. "I'll meet you inside, my love." You gave Daemon a quick kiss on the corner of his mouth and smiled one last time at your visitor. "It was nice to meet you, Doctor, I hope to see you again soon."
Daemon was going over the pros and cons of gutting this fucker like a fish as soon as you were out of earshot.
Pros. He would definitely enjoy it.
Cons. You might end up crying. He hated that.
"You've got a lovely home and wife, my friend."
"Yes I do." Daemon had been confused by this Doctor's intentions all day, but right now the man opposite him only exuded a positive energy.
"You care for her a great deal, that much is obvious. Good. Never stop. Those kinds of women only come around once in a lifetime." Eleven gave him a conspiratorial clap on the shoulder as he walked around the man.
Daemon opened his mouth to bite back a retort but was quickly silenced by the appearance of a strange blue box mere feet from them. "What in the fuck is that?"
Eleven snorted and laughed, giving TARDIS a pat this time as he opened the door. "Oh, it's just my ride. Much bigger on the inside. Name your next dragon Doctor Jr, please."
And with that he was gone, Daemon's head spinning while the chiming of the TARDIS's leaving faded into the sunset.
"That was incredibly strange."
The Targaryen startled just a bit, turning to face you. "What happened to awaiting me inside, wife?"
Your smirk was playful while your hands wrapped around his waist, chin tilted up to gaze at him. "And leave you alone with some stranger? What if he had ran you through?"
Daemon growled low in his chest, the same possessive need filling him at your touch as it always did. "Do you not believe me to be the better swordsman?"
"You know I like to see you get dirty." Your voice was dangerously low, pulling at the strings you knew he had tightest at the moment.
"Seems like you wouldn't have minded seeing The Doctor get dirty as well." Daemon Targaryen was many things but bitter was certainly not one of them. Until right this moment.
"Daemon." Your lips met his once, quickly. "My husband." Your lips returned to his, lingering this time in the want you could feel radiating from him. "King of my heart. I will never want anyone but you."
He pulled your head to his then, mouth forcing yours open in a bruising, claiming kiss.
"Let's get inside. There was something I wanted to do earlier."

one of my pet peeves is any attempt in hotd fic to present the driftmark fight as uniquely the fault or evidence of evil in any particular kid/group of kids/color team, like-they were children socially programmed to look down on each other for being girls, bastards, and/or dragonless, were further influenced by their parents' intergenerational baggage, had their navigations of these hierarchies thrown off balance by various forms of extreme trauma, and THEN were given access to sharp objects and living nukes. somebody was going to get seriously hurt at some point, it was inevitable no matter who reacted to what stressor. then the only course of healing modeled by adults on either side of the conflict was bloody revenge, which only exacerbated the issue.
the whole point isn't pointing out extreme moral flaws in these children, it's that they're forced into increasingly violent situations before they can really develop any personalities at all and the adults in their lives are so marked by their own violent upbringings that instead of realizing "hey, our kids being taught to hate each other for the stupidest reasons imaginable resulted in one of them being partially blinded, we need to change how we interact with one another extremely fast before they end up dead" they double down. because hotd doesn't work as a story of good vs evil, despite fans (and show runners) attempting to frame it that way, it's the story of an incredibly sick social hierarchy's self-destruction via how it treats and mistreats its young.
#i feel like a lot of this should be self-explanatory but i've seen some shit#'aemond should have' 'luke should have' WHICH FUCKING GROWNUP GAVE JACE A KNIFE#house of the dragon#a song of ice and fire#driftmark#the driftmark incident#monsters talks hotd#like why is aemond being taught to view his cousins with contempt for being born out of wedlock#why is rhaena not being shown healing methods separate from claiming vhagar (which she clearly doesn't want to do but feels compelled to)#why are the kids being taught not having a dragon is the worst flaw ever#and the answer is that these are all of course societal issues bigger than any one single group or peson

Mean! Aemond x Chubby! Martell! Wife (Elilla)
Warnings: Inacurate hotd, Possessiveness, Jealousy, P in V, +18
-
Y/N had been in King's Landing for a few months already, since her betrothal to prince Aemond Targaryen. Y/N was ready to fight her parents and go back to Dorne as soon as she stepped foot on King's Landing, as it was a tradition in Dorne to marry for love and not for duty. But as soon as she saw him, she felt in love. He was misterious and knightly but cold and sometimes he had glow in his eye when he saw her that she didn't know if it was lust, hate or what it meant.
He was different from what she had heard back in Dorne, she had heard of the one-eye prince, a monster, terribly cruel. She didn't know him that much but she knew the stories were not true. He was absolutely beautiful and in the short time since their betrothal, he had been nothing but knightly to her, perhaps even, a bit cold, but he took her for shorts walks on the garden or acompany her to read books in the Library. He didn't talk much and Y/N didn't know if he liked her, much less if he loved her. But she tried to let her doubts go as she loved him and Aemond would be her husband rather soon.
-
A few days before the wedding, it was decided to hold a feast to celebrate the union of house Targaryen and house Martell, as Y/N's family would come to Kings Landing for the wedding.
Y/N recevived her family happily, she had missed them terribly. Her sister brought her a beautiful dress from Dorne, it was golden, translucent and shined with the light of the sun. Y/N put on the dress and went to the Feast.
-
Aemond wasn't particularly fond of these feasts but had to entertain them for the sake of his station, he reminded himself. He sat next to his brother, the King. Aegon had already diminished the wine refills, but his cup kept getting emptied and full again and again. He tried to remain stoic, but then he saw her... His fiance wearing a dress that left little to nothing to the imagination, the way it embraced her curves, the curve of her breast to her belly to her tights, her dark hair falling to her waistline. All the lord of Westeros staring at her, taking advantage of any chance they could to touch her slightly. Aemond was enraged. But Aegon interrupted his thoughts.
-Seven hells, brother. I never thought I'd say this, but I envy you. Would you mind if we share?- Aegon said with a cheeky laugh.
That only made Aemond's blood boil even more. He stood up and walked to her and her family. He greeted them fastly and took his fiance's arm.
-May i have a word, my lady- He said as he took her arm in his hand firmly and cover her with his body as they made their way out of the Great Hall.
As they went out of the Hall, Queen Helaena greeted them as she was just entering the feast.
-Queen Helaena- said Y/N with a smile. Helaena had been absolutely kind and lovely to her.
-Brother, Y/N. Are you already leaving the feast?- asked Helaena.
-We just wanted to walk in the Garden- Aemond said coldly as he kept walking.
Helaena went into the Great Hall and Aemond and Y/N kept walking passing the Gardens.
-Prince Aemond, but we just passed the Garden... -said Y/N.
-Be still Y/N.
With a few more steps, they made their way to Aemond's chamber.
-Leave- said Aemond to the guards. And so they did.
Aemond took Y/N to his chamber and closed the door. He pinned to her to the wall and put his hand around her neck.
-I didn't know I was to marry a whore- He said with coldness in his eye.
-I... What do you mean?... Prince Aemond?
-Can't you see the ways the others stare at you? As they try to touch you? or grace you skin or you hair?- He said looking at her, as his blue eye was growing black.- Can't you see you're exposed?- He said as he ghosted his hands close to her waist.
-I... Its just what we wear in Dorne, it's nothing. I'll change and we can go back to the Feast.
-We're not going back to the Feast.
Aemond's blue eye look almost entirely black. He was looking at her with the same expression she couldn't decipher.
-I must have you- He whispered in her ear.
His voice sending vibrations through her.
-But the wedding...
-I must have you now- He said again, as he kissed her neck and move to her breast.- ābrazȳrys (wife)- He whispered at her bossom.
All this time, she didn't know if he cared about her, loved her or wanted her, as much as she did, but she knew now, she knew the word he spoke, as she had been studying high valyrian all the time she had spend in the library. He had called her his wife.
-Kessa, valzȳrys (yes, husband)- She said between breaths.
That's was all Aemond needed to take her right then and there. Her sweet voice in high valyrian as her breaths became more raggedy only enticing him more. He kissed her hungrily, biting her lower lip.
-Elilla (honey)- He whispered as he tasted her lips, that had been coated with a honey balm. He kept kissing her as she opened her mouth and he started exploring her with his tongue.
Aemond pulled the knife out of his coat and open the dress with a swift cut. Her breast pouring out of the fabric, he threw the knife to the floor and put his right hand on her breast, as he caressed the perk nipple between his fingers, his other hand squeezing the flesh of her waistline. As the fabric of the dress kept falling to the ground, she put her thights around his waistline and he started lapping at her breast sucking and biting softly, making her whimper and moan at his ministrations.
Aemond then moved her to his bed and bare himself before her.
She had read the books in Dorne and King's Landing as to prepare herself, but he was big, too big.
-It's too big...- She said between breaths.
-It's alright, Elilla (honey), trust me- He said as he put his fingers inside her core. Her wetness oozing out of her. She moaned as she felts his long fingers caressing her, making the pleasure pile up in the pit or her belly. But just before she could cum, he removed his fingers.
-Please, valzȳrys, please...
Then, she felt him enter her, she could swear she felt him all the way into her stomach. A burning pain and a burning pleasure mixing together.
Aemond felt her wetness... tight, so tight around him, it felt magnificent. He then moved his hips to pull out and enter her again.
Y/N she felt every part of him as the pain went away and only the pleasure remained. His cock wrapped in her arousal and her blood, as she moaned his name again and again, only making him want her even more. Aemond and Y/N were lost to pleasure as he sucked at her breast and his hand squeezed the flesh of her waistline, as their hips moved in tandem to reach their peak.

I can't help but cringe hard at that bts video from ep6, (Aemond and Alicent scene), when Olivia says that Alicent tries to reach to Aemond and to whatever has left of his heart (I'm paraphrasing it) but it's to no avail. So, It seems that the narrative that Aemond is a heatless monster continues, even the actress supports it. Like, let him be the monster all you want, bu at least give him someone with whom he can be more than a one dimensional villain, and Alicent as his mother was perfect for this, especially according to their s1 arcs. Now, however, it seems her sons disgust her (these are Olivia's words). I just hate this narrative so much and they keep pushing it. Also, according to the leaks, Aemond and Helaena will apparently share a few scenes and she'll be his comfort person after his fallout with Alicent. Honestly, this could be interesting and I would love to see them actually interact for once, but I have zero faith in the writers and I also have a feeling that Helaena will somehow be forced by Aemond to be some kind of an unwilling and tragic prophetic figure. I do hope I'm wrong, but I'm afraid that I lost every ounce of optimism and faith in this show.
Well, I guess I'm about to receive my weekly dose of cringe tonight lol. Anyway, I'm looking forward to your insights and takes on this (and the next episodes).
"Weekly dose of cringe" - what a great way to describe season 2 of HotD. Sad but true.
The way Aemond's (and Alicent's) relationsip with their family is being presented this season disheartens me to no end - and I have next to no faith for the things to get better (both according to the leaks and simply taking into account the direction the writing has taken).
If the script has Aemond force Helaena to help him, it really will be a new low, so I really hope it will not come to that. The way Ewan and Phia talked about the scenes they shared didn't put me on alert - but then again, as our collective experience has already proven, actors' words often have to be taken with a grain of salt.
As for Aemond's relationship with Alicent, I've had bad feeling about it for quite some time (since Olivia called Ewan as Aemond "so scary" in the early stages of the promo campaign). Even though the thought of it is frustrating, I don't feel like blaming Olivia for trying to get into her character's mindset and to feel what she feels the way all of it was written. After all, what other options did she have (even if she would have Alicent behave in a different manner)? Alicent is her character, and she has to play her the way she is on the pages of the script. Unfortunately, in HotD actors apparently have little influence on the way their characters are developed (they can make a difference - like Tom and Phia asking for an additional scene with Aegon and Helaena or Matt doing the same for Daemon and Rhaenyra in season 1 - but not the major plot points are concerned).

Something You Can Do
Summary: Alicent goes to Helaena to tell her about Jaehaerys' funeral and try to comfort her as best as she can. A rewritten scene from 2x02 "Rhaenyra the Cruel" that pays more attention to the awful choice Helaena was subjected to and her feelings in the wake of her son's murder. The idea of rewriting scenes from the second season of HotD is a great way to engage with the show despite its flaws and I would like to thank @aegoncarney for creating this event. It got me to write my first HotD fanfiction! AO3
The eyes of the Red Keep are like knives in Alicent's back, in her ribcage, in her mind. She wants to turn to the seemingly empty hallways and scream, yell at them, demand their accountability. Always watching, at least a dozen pairs shadow her every movement now but where were they when her daughter had been all alone against the monsters in the night?
They are only here to confine her, stop her from going two steps back for every three steps forward like she's lost her mind. She has to leave herself to the motion of walking, keep her mind on other things to let her feet take her to the quarters where her daughter and granddaughter had been moved on their own.
The thought of what she'll see when she gets there only makes her slow down as she wrestles with the impulse to turn around and storm the Small Council again to countermand her father’s commands. But she can't run from this forever. She has to be there for her daughter, as close as Helaena will allow her.
She had been in shock last night, staying in Alicent's chamber. They'd hardly talked her into letting go of Jaehaera and she'd remained perched on Alicent's bed and watching over her the whole night. The alertness in her posture had been disturbing, her hands stroking Jaehaera despite the distant look in her eyes as if to make sure the girl was still there. Alicent had barely convinced her to lie down and rest her body at least if she refused sleep, gaze penetrating the space in front of her as if she could see something in the distance the rest of them were unaware of.
The knight in front of Helaena's door opens it for Alicent, a little too quickly as if he's ashamed of how little use there is for him, now. She thanks him regardless – for guarding her precious girl, for saving her from agonizing over whether to knock and startle Helaena or risk frightening her if she walked in without warning, and for the sake of announcing herself to her daughter. Maybe even for her own sake, to earn herself another second to steel her nerves and bear the sight of what had become of her sweet girl, all because of her.
Helaena is on her feet again, holding the bedpost for support. She has Jaehaerys' blanket in her hands, hugging it to her to feel any trace left of him – his scent or the warmth that is no longer there. Something leaves her throat but it is unintelligible.
Alicent's heart pounds in her ears frantically despite her resolve to listen in, to never let Helaena feel alone or unheard again. She tries to ask… something but the possibility that a sob would be the only response she gets is an insurmountable lump in her throat. Helaena has every reason to weep and never stop. Why should she herself be allowed anything different?
Helaena turns to her, head snapping in her direction so fast that Alicent almost gasps in fear that she's hurt herself. Her eyes are focused now, her gaze so intense as it lands on Alicent that she nearly collapses to her knees. Whatever her sweet girl is looking for, she will fail to provide.
"I had nothing to give," Helaena's voice is so hollow – as if she knows her mother won't have what she needs.
Alicent chokes down her own sobs but her words are still wet when they come out, bathed in the tears welling in her eyes, "No, you are so loving and warm. A great mother-"
Helaena goes on as if she did not speak, "I couldn't offer myself. They only wanted a son."
Alicent freezes. The blood drains from her; she can't breathe. Her arm only shoots out to brace her against the wall when her knees buckle.
"I only had a necklace they didn’t take." Helaena's fingers are bunching the blanket, digging into it in search for her baby, or at least for an answer to settle her heart and mind. "Did I have something else to give?"
She whips around, eyes running over the room.
"This was my son's," she holds up the blanket. She steps towards the table and picks up one of Jaehaerys' toys. "This was my son's. All of these. He had many things. Why did I not…?"
Her arms fall next to her body, limp, the blanket pooling in her feet. She looks up at Alicent, her lips trembling. "I must have had something to give. If I am the queen."
Alicent runs to her. The moment she opens her arms, Helaena collapses in them and they fall to the floor, the blanket barely softening the thud their bodies make against it. The toy in Helaena's hand clatters to the ground and her nails sink into Alicent’s shoulders like she'd slip away if she doesn't burrow herself under Alicent's skin. She is only grateful for that pain.
She tries stroking Helaena's hair and only continues when Helaena doesn't push her away. Though, she doesn't really seem to notice, still clutches at her and her breaths come in irregular gasps. Like she's stifling the cries before they can form in her body.
Alicent doesn't know what to say, how to encourage her to let it out. She wants to tell her she'll remain with her as long as Helaena needs her but Helaena speaks first.
"What else could I have done, mummy?"
Alicent's heart breaks. She bites herself to blood to keep from weeping; the tremors of her body are already shaking Helaena. That's all she can give her. Not an answer but her own pain reflected back at her.
She has to remind herself not to cling to Helaena like that's the only thing keeping her head above water. She's supposed to be the one consoling her baby.
She has nothing to give.
"I didn't see them," Helaena's voice is so thin, like she'll break under unbearable weight. "Just the rats. In every hallway, swarming together, with a big shadow behind them swallowing the light. They were coming for us and I couldn’t pick him up, my boy…" She buries her face in Alicent's neck. "They were running from it."
Alicent can't help the pangs of guilt cutting through the relief of having Helaena nestled into her neck, safely in her arms where nothing can take her away. It's a comfort only to her while her sweet girl is twisting her mind inside out, looking for a way out of a tragedy that's already happened, that none of them could have foreseen. She has to soothe her, has to find a way to lead her out of the maze Helaena is wandering in her own head.
"There is to be a funeral for Jaehaerys. We’ve been asked to… accompany the procession."
Helaena has gone still, stiff, in her arms. She has to tread very carefully.
"If we show we need them, the people will help us. With them on our side, it will be easier to defend ourselves. You can protect your girl."
Helaena pulls back to look at her and Alicent tries to find her own conviction. She'd do anything for her sweet girl but this doesn't feel right. She's not lying; they need the people. She still feels like retching just thinking of standing next to her daughter while her pain is paraded around.
Her sweet girl needs a second but understands. Her eyes search Alicent’s face and she feels like she's failing her. Tears have already started to blur her vision and she knows her jaw trembles; she doesn't even have the strength to clench it hard enough to stop that. How can she harden herself when Helaena is in her arms? Only gentleness should ever touch her girl.
Only when she sees her tears mirrored in Helaena's eyes as she nods, she knows her girl is braver than her.
Her heart jumps when Helaena leans into her again. She tucks her under her chin immediately and strokes her back.
She wants to say, "I'm sorry."
All she says is, "There is something you can do."
She's not sure if she's talking to Helaena or to herself.
She repeats herself over and over again.
Maybe at least one of them will believe it.

Oh hohoho, episode two of season 2 was certainly something!
Love the soundtrack so much, it always elevates the scene.
MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW for HOTD S2 EP2 (House of the Dragon, Season Two, Episode 2)
The music choice for the opening scene? Perfect! 10/10! Made me feel emotions! The servants (and possibly other nobles?) being led out by the guards, the chaotic nature of it all, the impending violence! Ser Criston Cole seemingly trying to do something? Just trying to look busy?
Aegon’s raging was wonderful acting! (Personally I was a fan of the model of Old Valyria so bit sad to see it get wrecked but wowww the actor nailed that rage). Aemond being ominous per usual.
See I thought in the episode prior when Helaena called Jaehaerys “the boy” it was either a weird quirk in the script or a deliberate attempt character-wise for her to try and cope by not saying his name directly? But it feels weird having Otto and Alicent both say “The Child” when referring to Jaehaerys? Not even “My granddaughter” from Alicent? Or “Prince Jaehaerys” from Otto.
I do like the acting for Alicent, her breakdown and sobbing, that guilt and how she blames herself for what happened.
“You’re already seen as weak, Aegon.” That line from Otto is pure gold. Hate Otto Hightower but he is damn good at his political maneuvering, using Prince Jaehaerys death to garner sympathy and paint Rhaenyra as this cruel monster akin to Maegor. Sidenote: at least Otto mentions Jaehaerys was his grandson (technically great-grandson).
The dresses! The embroidery! Costume department is doing greattt! Love the horses being decked out in green and gold.
I do like how you can see Helaena’s face and eyes flit back and forth as she thinks and realizes what Alicent is saying when she comes into her room and says they’re riding behind Jaehaerys in the funeral. And how Helaena very much doesn’t want to do it and says so, yet even her own mother ignores her wishes. (Just like how Aegon ignores Helaena’s on the episode prior, interrupting Jaehaerys from his lessons). I also love that Helaena gets more lines, and how she cuts off Alicent attempting to talk about how she walked in on her and Criston together. It’s very much “fucking hell, mother, I don’t care about your sex life, my son is death and you want to parade me and my dead son through the streets.”
Holy shit they actually showed Jaehaerys’s body/head during the funeral procession. I finally understand the still of Helaena during the funeral that kept being used before s2 came out, the black wisps on her face are from the black veil she’s wearing. I’d panic and freak out too if I was Helaena, my wagon gets stuck and suddenly a bunch of people swarm you and are reaching out trying to grab you, it’s already so much traumatic stuff happening coupled with the constant loud calling of your name, it’s overwhelming.
Rhaenyra’s sparkling red dress is so pretty. I love it. Daemon being a smug little shit, love that for him. Jacaerys being a responsible Prince and heir to the Iron Throne. Rhaenyra chewing Daemon out was such a well written piece of dialogue. But like What do you mean you’ve never trusted him wholly Rhaenyra?? Either she’s bluffing or the writer’s were on something because she was all for Daemon and trusting him. They got married because she wanted him (and his support but mostly because she wanted him). I suppose this is how they’re starting to drive the wedge between Rhaenyra and Daemon so when he goes to Harrenhal and spends time looking for Aemond (according to what I’ve heard/the wiki). I did think it was odd for Daemon to not just outright say he wanted Jaehaerys dead / accepted Jaehaerys as an alternative option for Aemond’s head instead he denied it. I feel like he’d probably be more likely to embrace that he did, and expect approval from Rhaenyra THEN she would be all “you’re pathetic, I never asked nor wanted Jaehaerys dead”.
Baela! Baela! Can’t wait to see her on Moondancer! Jace & Baela scenes!
Caraxes is back! Caraxes is back! My Blood Wrym is backkkk! Looking great as ever!
Awww little Aegon and little Viserys! Rhaenyra’s baby boys are so cute. And yeah I noticed the juxtaposition between them cleaning up Jaehaerys bloody bed then switching to Rhaenyra’s own blonde-haired toddlers. Criston Cole is such a petty projecting bitch man, getting on the case of another knight of the Kingsguard whose cloak had gotten physically muddy while Ser Criston has dirtied his white cloak in another way (failing to protect the royal family, sleeping with Alicent, etc). “Will you so easily sully our ancient honor?” Nah but you sure will Criston. THIS MAN! THE AUDACITY TO ASK what’s his name of the Kingsguard where he was when Prince Jaehaerys was murdered. Hah you fucking tell him whichever twin you are, where were you Lord Commander?
YEAH WHY THE FUCK HASNT THE QUEEN (QUEEN HELAENA) BEEN GIVEN A SWORN PROTECTOR? YOU ARE INFACT MAD, SER CRISTON COLE! seven hells, this man is so fucking annoying, he’s literally pissing me off with his whining bullshit, blaming everyone else except himself. Ah, his name is Ser Arryk.
Baela with her crossbow! Jacaerys going to check on her because she missed supper! Jacaerys reminiscing about Laenor spending time with him, and Baela asking of Ser Harwin Strong! Ohhhh I love Jacaerys and Baela. “I miss Luke.” That line from Jacaerys. Ohhhh someone help me, I can’t deal with this tragedy.
The Brothel scene with Aemond made me uncomfortable yet I can’t articulate why? It’s this weirdly vulnerable scene, he’s curled up in this fetal position, looking almost scrawny and small? Yet even then while he claims to be sorry for Luke’s death, he still downplays his own actions never taking full responsibility (at that point just embrace the evil shit you’re doing).
Ohhh so we’re meeting Ser Hugh this time, nice. Love Addam and Alyn so far! Great brotherly relationship. I feel like Addam and Alyn’s personalities ought to be switched? Not sure, we’ll see, I love them both so far anyways.
Love Corlys and Rhaenys’ relationship lol. Otto’s rage at Aegon’s rash decisions and stupidity is absolutely lovely and hilarious. Great acting from everyone. Aegon’s dismissive nature, not caring how many innocent men he hangs if there was a chance he got the guilty man alongside it and Criston Cole being the new lapdog of the King. Otto trying desperately to play politics while Aegon fucks shit up.
Oo we got to see more of Elinda, one of Rhaenyra’s ladies-in-waiting/handmaiden. The fight between Ser Erryk and Ser Arryk was tense, wonderful, good use of the environment. Ser Lorent Marbrand, Oo he’s from the Westerlands (House Marbrand is in the Westerlands).
Ohhhh they mentioned Daeron! Can’t wait to see Tessarion. Oh greattt (sarcasm) Alicent and Criston are having sex again, can’t wait to see Criston further project his own insecurities and emotions onto other people.
