pairing/s: neuvillette x reader context: fontaine's chief justice experiences his first heartbreak and realizes he may be in love. desperately and hopelessly so.

He supposed it was fine.

For a whole week, Neuvillette had meticulously planned on taking you out for dinner so that he could confess by the insistence of Sedene with the support of all Melusines. After all, they were tired of watching the two of you chasing each other in circles.

It didn't matter if he was the Chief Justice of Fontaine with a jam-packed schedule. It did not matter even if he's just finished one of the worst and most soul-draining trials in his time as the Iudex. He would drop it all at your beckon; in a heartbeat if you asked him, needed him. So long as it was you the word hesitation could kiss itself goodbye. He doesn't have the time, but for you, he could.

But due to an emergency, you had to cancel at the last minute.

There is an old saying that tells the tale of a dragon’s hardened shell made from the rarest and strongest of ores in all of Teyvat; a material of stardust no mortal could ever dream to acquire. And yet in these small moments that equated some sort of indirect rejection from you, he rather thought that perhaps his shell was not as tough as the other Sovereigns. 

“Monsier Neuvillette, are you sure it's fine?”

He watches the way your eyes crinkle, the anticipation of disappointment from him settling in your gaze as you await his reply, and the thought of being selfish just this once is clawing within his chest. Be honest, say the truth. He had lived under the light of truth for as long he breathed so why was it so hard to do so now?

But he also catches your subtle, minuscule gaze at the clock behind him and he knows whatever the emergency was is important to you. And the mere thought of him preventing you from being where you should be, somewhere, with someone far more consequential than him wounds him.

Neuvillette wondered that if love always felt as agonizing as this, why would any person willingly place themselves in such torment? And yet one look at you and he knew. If he could endure a heartache for a single moment with you...

He would endure a hundred more.

“Of course, [Name]. We can reschedule another time.”

The restaurant would always be open, doors waiting for your steps, valets expecting your presence. But that did not change the fact that it ached and hurt in every crevice of his hollow heart he never knew he could feel pain from. 

But since it was you, it should be fine.

It's fine.

But it also hurts.

OMG!! it been sooo long since the last time i heard this song!! I love so much the rhythm, I almost don't write the fic for being dancing around 🤭 (have you seen that clip of Bugs Bunny dancing with this song? Yeah, that was me)

You were already used to bump into people by accident, you had always been pretty clumsy and tend to trip with your own feet, even when is something that you find kinda funny you always apologize to whoever you bother with your clumsiness to be polite, you had found people that get mad at you or don't give importance when you bump into them, but you certanlty didn't expect to end up having a friendship out of it

To be fair, the friendship started to grow after a few accidents, for some reason you always manage to bump into Yuri, the first time you just apologized, the next times started to be more irritating for him, however that doesn't last long, not like he can be mad at you when everything time you see each other, even if is in unfortunate circumstances you always had a funny smile and even started to reconize him

It was almost thanks to you that the friendship grew, you were the one who started doing jokes about your clumsiness, and you had even told him that you hope next time you two could meet without causing a mess in a playful tone

Yuri doesn't understand how or why but for some reason the image of you smiling at him and joking with him without even knowing his name get stuck in his mind and doesn't seem like it would go away, not like he want it anyways, Yuri even started to hope that he will be able to see you again every day. Yuri doesn't completely catch the feelings that were slowly growing inside his chest, those feeling that make him hope he wil be able to see you again soon, but it isn't like he is complaining about them neither

The next time he sees you Yuri was determinante to finally ask for your name, he couldn't bare the fact that now you are making his heart go faster but he doesn't even know your name, he wanted to know more about you and get closer to you, and Yuri is determinated to do it, so after you two finally exchange names it was just matter of time for you two to grow closer, starting with a friendship

Slowly you start to apear more and more in his life, but this time you weren't bumping into him, he saw you in all kind of scenarios that make Yuri's heart skip a beat in a good and a bad way, just as Yuri has had the opportunity to see your beauty illuminated by a beautiful sunset hee has had the misfortune to see you being dragged while trying to take your dog for a walk, just as Yuri has had the opportunity too see you dance to the rhythm of the music so smoothly and carefree, like if it were a second nature for you, he has had the misfortune to see you fall from trees when you tried to scale them (even when he kindly ask you to don't do it because you could end up hurt)

At this point Yuri had lost count of all the times he's had to catch your things or even you before you fall (and almost drop you for being flustered) but he swears that he will never be tired of it! He really doesn't mind having to catch you a million of times times and having to patch up your little injuries if that means being able to continue seeing you smile so carefree and cheerful at him

When Yuri feels like he already knows all your possibles mischiefs you always come up with something completely new, something that will make him feel worried sick for your safety but that, at the same time, make him feel amused

Your caotic and carefree attitude is something that make Yuri fall in love more and more with each passing day, and is something that motivates him to continue working hard, wanting to create a place were you and Yor could be free without worries, hoping to be able to live in a peaceful future with you

Bro could you just imagine Sebek and Rollo face to face with each other and Sebek immediately turning around not wanting to get exposed only for Rollo to be like.

His student aide and vice president always make it a point to tease Rollo for his admiration for Sebek's acting, telling Sebek that the only time he's ever missed summer classes ("Summer classes?? That's kind of sad." "Ruggie how about we NOT provoke the guy who's letting us stay over.") was when he found out that Sebek came back to the Shaftlands. He was there in the audience on his first day.

Rook is DEFINITELY not letting this go. "Monsieur Crocodile dabbles in the theatrical arts? Why, how come I've never heard of this before!" "You stalk people, how have you NOT."

Asking Sebek when his next performance will be, if he can get a discount or a free ticket (He literally has the money to buy a whole row of seats what is bro on about), just absolutely MINDBLOWN

If ever Rollo and Rook were to fight over who Sebeks biggest fan was, I think it would be passive aggressive lawl.

"I must say, Mr. Zigvolt, your acting is absolutely spectacular."

"Oui! Hearing such praise makes me want to see Monsier Crocodile onstage for myself! I fear that you may have a contender for number one fan!"

"I am not a number one fan, as you put it, but it's awfully bold for you to assume that you'll instantly reach such a title when you've just heard of Mr. Zigvolt's achievements. Give it- ah, a few years, give or take?"
