Headcanon that Grian (a feather covered birdy that wore multiple layers of clothing) used red life Scar's undead body as an ice pack almost. Dead bodies are only the same temperature as their environment, so as long as Scar continued to stick to shade and drink cool water just to feel comfortable, he could be a living icepack for Grian to press his face against to cool down.

Alternatively, in the last hours of sunlight across the sand, Scar would offer to take watch of the desert. He would soak up the last bits of warmth from the sun, so that when he joined Grian, his birdy had the option of a warm scittie to cuddle up against as they fell asleep.
