Kinda hard to see but in the first opening of shrikes room in episode one of Monkey wrench you can see a photo of shrike and I assume a group of old friends.
Makes you wonder if they'll come up, perhaps they had a falling out? We know that Shrike used to work for League of Aligned worlds aka L. A. W, specifically in the navy of L. A. W. which I find very interesting because at multiple points Shrike expresses a lot of sustain for L. A. W. Like in episode one when Beebs brought up the news of Lady kara supposedly killing another wealthy law supporter Shrike says
" Probably deserved it. Supporting Laww and all..oh and speaking of miserable!"
I don't think we can come to the conclusion that his prior career did not align with his preferences of chaos, cuz we all know shrike loves to fight and shoot a blaster. So taking all that into accountability he probably stopped for some other reason.
It could just be his somewhat easy to anger personality but in the photo he does not look happy, like at all. Though his friends look the exact opposite.
In episode two the guys actually even take a job presented to them as being from " L.A.W." well until it was proven otherwise. But at some point Beebs references something Shrike said before the job, before the start of the episode. About not trusting the job they're currently taking, agreeing with what he said and claiming he might be right. This aligns with Shrikes not so savory history with L.A.W and what he might assume or expect of the organization.
Shrike also then states the above which is interesting to mention he talks about holding a gun in relationship to L.A.W caring or not caring about you, from someone who fought in L.A.W Navy.
This shows L.A.W probably isn't afraid to get their hands dirty.
Also in episode two when they finally do apprehend the crazy scientist lady and turn her into L.A.W, one of the L.A.W workers forgets a certain line I assume you say when arresting someone in the L.A.W organization. Shrike is then there and able to repeat the whole saying where he could not. Although in a very unenthused tone of voice.
After, the blue guy offers shrike to help in the arrest, Shrike looks very disgusted at this idea and then immediately denies walking away annoyed,
" Nah Amigo, That ain't my thing no more."
Again GO WATCH MONKEY WRENCH it is amazing and beautifully animated, I know it's hard for me to get into a show when you have to track it down but Monkey wrench is available free on youtube! And you don't have to worry about the plot picking up when in their first two episodes a lot of action, comedy and world building are included!

The 57 Mystery/Theory
ok, so some people in the digital circus fandom have noticed a reoccurring number throughout the episodes so far, 57. it's on the wall of the Gloink Queen's lair in the pilot, Caine says "it's gonna be 57 times more immersive" in the second episode, and Matilda Mildenhall says "that man could turn a 57 second story into a Greek tragedy" in the third episode.
now, over on twitter/X, gooseworx stated that in order to understand the 57 reference, we'd have to watch all of monkey wrench.
so I watched monkey wrench (and so should you, it's really cool).
of the 3 episodes that exist for monkey wrench, I found the number 57 in both the 1st and 3rd episode. if it's in the 2nd episode, it's pretty damn hidden cause I didn't find it. but in the 1st episode, "ghost egg", Shrike and Beebs escort Nobert to Dock 57 on Oberon. and in the 3rd episode, "Us & Them" (fun fact, Gooseworx voices a character in that episode), when we get the city shot of where Kara is, there's what looks like a helicopter pad with the number 57 on it in the shot.
So references to the number 57 appear not just within The Amazing Digital Circus, but within Monkey Wrench as well. But what does it really mean?
the first episodes of each show came out around a year ago, though I do think that Monkey Wrench came before digital circus (could be wrong tho).
now, what comes to mind when I think of number references in medias is the A113 Pixar easter egg, where in a lot of movies Pixar had a hand in making, A113 was hidden somewhere in the film. like on license plates and other background details. that's because A113 was the room number the animation team either learned how to animate, or executed the animations (I don't remember the exact history of it).
So what does 57 mean to the People behind both Monkey Wrench and Digital Circus? I know Gooseworx had a hand in both of them, Creating the Digital Circus, and having a hand in the sound designs for Monkey wrench (and voicing a character in episode 3). but outside of that there's not a lot of connection between the 2 shows.
my theory regarding it is that both teams resposible for each show are friends and wanted to make a reference joke. something to sneak into their show that'd reference the other in some way. so they picked a number somehow. maybe it was random, maybe they counted all the people working on both shows together and got 57 that way. who knows really.
nonetheless I think it's cool that these 2 indie shows have a little reference they can share between themselves.

A NEW MONKEY ISLAND GAME how are we feeling? What are your thoughts? I always wanted more, but not in a "I don't like the other games" way and just a "I'd love more in general". Do you think it will be good? What they will do with Elaine and Guybrush relationship?
Boy oh boy do I have some thoughts on the matter.
In a condensed version: I'm extremely excited and happy and over joyed and damn well near fainted at work out of it... buuuuuuuuut I'm also terrified senseless of what's to come.
The long version, however, is under the readmore.
I. AM. THRILLED!! Like!! After thirteen years from Tales, we FINALLY have a Monkey Island game, and a brand new one at that! Like!! That is simply unheard of! Add to that that it's including Dave Grossman who I trust MI with more than anything AND bringing back our boy Dominic Armato as Guybrush, I can't help but be on the verge of tears over it.
The style looks nice, they're bringing back the original composer, MURRAY. It's all looking to be awesome. More to that, Ron Gilbert (as I type this) has confirmed that he isn't negating Curse so make of that what you will.
Do I think it'll be good? Gonna have to wait and see since, well... it's a Ron Gilbert game and he has a fun time making puzzles ridiculous (I say fun but through gritted teeth... Monkey Wrench haunts me, my dude). What I do know, is that I'm excited to see where it'll go since this is not just a game coming off of Tales, but a game that Ron here would never ever ever let people forget about. Ever. High expectations, you dig?
But on the other hand, and this is where my trepidation sets in (as well as why I used the 'what the fuck' gif as my reaction), is that it's the elusive MI3a. The one Ron Gilbert would not shut the hell up about and was why a lot of his die hard fans were um... gatekeeper-ish? Not sure if that's the word, but it felt almost taboo to say you liked any of the games after MI2 (and for those curious: Curse and Tales are my all time favorite MI games). So it's the version I'm terrified of.
For a brief recap, his MI3a will start straight from MI2 after Guybrush got taken to Big Whoop, a complete and total separate entity then Curse, Escape and Tales.
Meaning Guybrush hasn't gotten his character arc growth, he's not married to Elaine (or in a relationship at all based on MI2), and has zero support network. So the Guybrush we see him in Curse or Tales is not the one in MI3a. Same goes with Elaine. Could I be horribly terribly and stupidly wrong? Yeah, probably, I'm writing this at the heat of the announcement and I will love to see this age like milk, but at the moment, as it stands, I'm nervous.
More to that, the main thing I'm terrified of, while silly and I know that, are really everything that has to do with Guybrush and Elaine. Again, I know it's silly and I am writing it at the heat of the moment, and I know that Ron and Dave are not 100% disregarding Curse or the rest of the franchise (especially so since I know that a lot of Elaine's content in Tales was suggested by Ron himself), but I'm nervous Ron is going to be that salty jerk and just disintegrate the connection between Guybrush and Elaine, meaning the ship will be dead in the water.
I know that I can always go "that's the one timeline, the other one is still canon" and I can go do fix-it fics and what not, I know, but I think what makes me nervous about the relationship was that he wasn't exactly secretive on his views of them. Granted, it did change over time and there's even an Easter egg about it in Thimbleweed Park (there's a G+E in a heart etched in the elevator controls) and he did help write Elaine's arc for Tales... so there's a small glimmer of hope, but still.
Anyways, with all that being said, this is all thoughts and feels and I am, at the end of the day, ecstatic for a new MI game after 13 years. I just hope Ron doesn't go so supremely meta about it that I'm gonna toss the controller out the window. I don't need that salty meta.

- The three Green Lanterns working together to make a Green Lantern shield! :D
- Suspicion indeed.
- Oh no the X-pit is now in this dimension!
- “Darkseid must be most pleased” Granny is fanatic...
- Virgil being there for Jeff! ;-; Even if he left him at the beginning of the season and prefer having an affair than being a mentor. Jeff, you don’t deserve this kid!
- Jeff being depressed because of a hot dog...
- Granny being a poor old woman in distress. Such a good actress!
- Vic smelling himself after Forager’s line xD
- Barbara watching Dick during two days straight ;-; And Kaldur watching him too!
- WTF? Savage? He must be really concerned about the Anti-Life Equation for wanting to act like a gentleman now...
- “I’m traught, whelmed and feeling the aster.” Dick, you can’t just throw all of this at once to us xD
- A old team mission? With Brion, Tara and Forager? :D
- Love Connor and Brion relationship!
- Kaldur being worried about his friends is one of my favorite juice!
- Virgil isn’t even smiling :/
- Dakota really looks like this poor and wrenched?
- Mantis is working for Darkseid? How could it be better than the New Gods?
- WTF? Why with monkeys? Why Dick calling him Kid Flash instead of Wally? Is Wally faster than before? Everything is in slow motion. Why everyone looks like season 1? Baby Dick! Why there is old lines from season 1? Easter egg? Or nostalgia? Or biggest meaning? New play with the word ject. Video games mode xD 16 again. Wait! How does he get away from the boxes if it was an illusion? He’s not feeling well enough to do that by himself!
- Jeff’s girls being Bumblebee and Black Lightning cosplay! <3 Foreshadowing? It’s pretty cool he is in good terms with his ex to go to see his girls whenever he wants :) It should be the normal scenario
- Brion gained character development!
- M’gann ready to sacrifice her peace of mind to save the universe :(
- So only people with metagene and mystic powers can survive the X-pit? It seems Atlanteans and Amazones would be fine too. That explained Dick’s sickness. The Green Lanterns and Elongatedman aren’t feeling well. So the last one isn’t meta?!
- Superman doesn’t even bother to be burned by Lava...
- They... lost?! :o
- Wolf sleeping at the feet of Wally ;-;

which way next, Vi? Anselm? Lenn? Someone?
Today seems to be turning out as a day of much procrastination and little writing (well, I did go out and do errands like returning the library book due today and mailing a package of traditional chocolate/peanut butter Easter eggs to my BFFs and things like that so it’s not all procrastination). Not so much a case of writer’s block as a “Which way to go next?” because I keep updating my outline and brainstorming what these orlans & friends might do next in their investigation and how long before I throw a Plot Monkey Wrench at them anyway and how long before Secrets Are Revealed and...well, there’s a lot of possibilities and I need to just pick a scene and write it even if it doesn’t end up being the next scene in the story once these all get arranged as fits best, I guess.
#from the desk of ranna#writing#it's like a really messed up skein of yarn that needs to be unraveled before I go on knitting the story#to steal/borrow a metaphor from @storyknitter anyway :-D

Hanks Farm
2973 IL-71
Ottawa IL 61350
I have tried several times to make reservations to Hank’s Farm, once on Easter and once on Mother’s Day. Each time I must have called too late, because it wasn’t possible to get the right seating for the amount and type (old) of people in our party. With that many people flocking here on those days it’s gotta be good!
True to the name the restaurant sits in an old and large barn. It’s open and airy and is appointed as expected. The place is fairly clean except the men’s room could use a little help. Big Food Jerk’s restaurant etiquette rule #2: A restaurant patron should not make #2 in a restaurant bathroom. We are trying to eat and would rather not be greeted with foul air upon entering bathroom. Not good for the appetite!
As we all have experienced at buffets is that oftentimes we can amass a giant pile of dirty plates and a lack of clean silverware and empty drinks. This can put a monkey wrench in our buffet gorging food orgy. However Hank’s was well staffed and dirty plates left the table almost as fast as they were finished. Kudos to the staff!
With any buffet and the plethora of choices there are going to be items we like and others we don’t care for as much. Hank’s was no different, so I’ll just point out some items I liked and didn’t like and one I absolutely hated. For the like column: Eggs Benedict were the star breakfast attractions. The eggs were poached perfectly and the hollandaise sauce was subtle and complimentary. The potatoes and the sausage were good. The biscuits and gravy were acceptable as well. Mashed Potatoes, Stuffing and the carved meats belong in the like column as well. As far as “didn’t like” I think I would say all of the desserts that I tried and they were many. The pecan pie was dreadful as were the lemon squares. The mini omelets had an odd rubbery consistency that blocked my brain from forming an opinion on the flavor. There are also the frozen heat and serve items in there as well i.e. French Toast Sticks. I absolutely hated that nasty gravy. The color, consistency and flavor can all suck it. The neon yellow color reminds me of an oozy nasal infection.
According To The Big Food Jerk.
All in all Hanks Farm is a decent buffet joint with enough choices to satisfy anyone, even me. I do recommend them and for a holiday buffet or for a Sunday family get together, sure I’m on board.

Im gonna be posting a lot of monkey wrench easter eggs over the next few days BUT I went through episode one again and as directed to us a few times by @monkey-wrench-zeurel I looked at the news segment in episode one
As we learn from episode two Shrike loves Terran cartoons being silly animated adventures set in a western cowboy like setting. Soon after the conversation gets diffused by the fact the Terran are apparently responsible for the "Galactic wide cataclysm"
But who cares! Right? I mean apparently they also invented pizza and also cartoons! They're a big part of history!
Hm. Maybe a little too big.
The biggest kicker of all would have to be something I also spotted in episode one
When the dudes get to Oberon there're quite a few featured wanted posters and if you pause and read you can see a wanted poster for actual Terran with images!
As you can see these guys are pretty hated, especially with the big red X some one has put over both of the Terran. Even listing that " if you sight anyone from the Terran species you are to report their location to the L. A. W. Enforcement immediately"
They want all of them dead so badly they're listed at 1,000,000 pixels for capture. They aren't wanted dead though, and are instead listed as being executed. From everything I've seen so far I don't really trust these L. A. W. guys who seem to have a lot of power
But obviously as you can see Terran are probably Humans.
It would make sense with the things they are related to but we can't exactly rule out that in the universe some other species didn't make certain things.
What I do find interesting, is that the cartoon shrike loves so much is called " EL BANDITO" which is spanish, as we often hear Shrike speak. So if Terrans were just humans who live on earth that would make sense.
We know that Terran have been around for a pretty long time being a big part of history and everything. As you can see in the news broadcast the year of episode one is 4029 which is about 2,026 years in the future. (not good at math)
Obviously technology is very advanced now and everything is in a Sci-fi space setting, so I find it interesting Shrike has VHS tapes when at this point that technology would be like an ancient 2nd millennia BC historical artifact.
Last thing I'll note is that the Terran both have purple gunk on then so that's a question to ask.
And if you haven't already, go watch Monkey Wrench! It's beautifully animated and it's only just a youtube show so it needs all the help it can get to do great and really get out there!
