PRESS RELEASE OPENING RECEPTION SUSTAINABLE PHOTOGRAPHY MONA MIRI
“ This exhibition is a collection of sustainable photographs by Mona Miri. It is a collection of work representing the environmental landscapes and sustainability work of Mona Miri, throughout her career as a Sustainability Fine Art Photographer. The work is to represent the constant change of the landscape, our Planet, and the delicate state it is in. Even in the midst of a polluted and industrial landscape there is still beauty to be seen. The before and after of the remediation of the Landfill park is relieving to view, yet the contrast of the Ice from a century past is hard to observe. With the help of Arbor Day Foundation there will be trees planted for the show as well as the off set of carbon emissions footprints for the production. This has been one of Mona’s Miri’s signature sustainability factors in the production of her work since 2009, as well as the renewable resource of material used, and the importance of the subject matter, our delicate planet.“
There will be an opportunity to sign up to plant trees and with every purchase a tree will be planted on the person’s behalf. Please join the reception on April 18th 2024 from 6-8 PM.

There are so many exciting things happening this month! I’m in another show on view now at the Envoy Gallery space in Seaport Boston! A show called Water levels, a climate change show of various works representing the rise of our water levels. This is a wonderful show and very relative to my advocacy for the environment and sustainability. See this piece “ Iceberg Lake Glacier- melting Glaciers “ At the Envoy Gallery Space- 70 Sleeper st. Seaport Boston- Oct. 10th- Nov. 3rd. Iceberg Lake Glacier in Montana has seen excessive melting glaciers in the past decade. The Glaciers are melting so fast that it’s labeled as one of the fasted US. Parks effected by climate change. Soon enough, hence the name “Glacier park” will have no more glaciers because warming temperatures.

It is devastating to see the wildfires in California, Greece, Finland and around the World occurring while we see warmer temperatures every year. It is occurring now in areas where fires are a rare occurrence and being prepared for this kind of life threatening emergency is unexpected. Last year I hiked the petrified forest in Glacier national park which suffered a large range of fires in the park. While it was a few years ago the area is still in recovery, blackened and dead trees stand while the habitat is still trying to recuperate. Please help however you can and donated to your favorite charity thats helping the fires right now. I’ve donated to the Arbor day foundation to fight the forest fires this year.

More from Metropolis NY- more than 2,300 trucks roam New York City and it’s surrounding Burroughs picking up 12,000 tons of trash each day. - trucks outside of Ny sanitation where some of the trash is dropped at this station along with many stations around the state. Image 2 - a view of Fresh Kill landfill transformed into a park. No more trash exists there although still exists buried many feet under the ground topped with layers of protective soil, mixed gravel and more soil.

Glacier national park in Montana is the crown of the continent, where more scientist study the effects of climate change.  This region of Montana and its natural diversity makes it more sensitive to climate impact.
The changes in climate like warmer temperatures and drought have had tremendous impact over the past 100 years in this region. It is incredibly evident from the bottoms of the valley to the top of the glaciers. Every year forest fires are getting worse. Two years ago the massive forest fires stretched more than 10 miles down the east glacier path. The petrified forest has stood for 2 years trying to recover. Even though forest fires are a cyclical part of nature, it is taking longer than usual for vegetation and of the healing process to occur in the area. 2017 the high temperatures brought more forest fires and most recent the 12 miles stretch of fires ignited by lighting strikes. It’s evacuated some 150 homes and hundreds of hikers and campers. It hasn’t stop yet and it continues until today when warmer conditions continue to rise.
Warmer conditions have also increased infestations of insects like Bark beetles that kill trees which essentially takes much longer to regrow the loss of bark. Warmer temperatures also cause the subalpine fir trees to expand into the alpine meadows. Mountains goats who are a major population in the mountains have fewer alpine meadows to graze on. It is evident wildlife is moving upward in elevation, because of changes, they have fewer and challenging ways with other habitat in higher mountains top to survive on.
Glacier national park is one of the most affected areas in the World that has the most fastest residing glaciers. Photographs from 50 years ago until now show how little left of the glaciers remain. This is history. In 15 years, with studies shown and images captured the glaciers will disappear. Over 80 percent of the glaciers in Montana’s glacier national park have disappeared since 1850. It will be the first time in history that the preservation of the glaciers will be lost forever.  Many areas are evident like the iceberg lake and the Grinnell glaciers, where massive glaciers ones stood as long as history can remember.
Because excessive loss of water flow during the summer, it has impacted the native trout. Trout relies on cold clear glacial melt to keep the temperatures cool in the summer, so therefore with warmer water temperatures trout cannot survive and has killed the populations of trout. This effects more than 300 animals and species like black bear and grizzle bears that hunt for fish and wild salmon for food.

On July 4th, I hiked the sun-point peak where the fire of 2015 is still very much evident. The burned silhouetted black trees stand against the beautiful Glacier Park landscape. The vegetation and ecosystem around the area is growing back and although fires are a positive cyclical part of nature, it has taken longer than usual for the healing process. This has recorded as being part of climate change.
While being in Glacier Park in July, I noticed the smell of forest fires all throughout the park each day. The fires have started early this year and yet again this is unusual for the park to experience as early as July and as many that have been recorded.
Yesterday on August 12th 2017, a massive fire was ignited by a lighting strike. Because of the high temperatures, it spread faster and bigger around the lake McDonald region at Sperry Chalet. It is very close to the west entrance of the Glacier park. Some 35 visitors had to be evacuated while other hikers were warned to move out of the area. In addition, the city of Missoula, was also hit with a 12-mile strength of fires evacuating 150 homes. Meteorologists have recorded that Montana is experiencing one of the worst droughts and driest season since 110 years!
Western Montana specifically, is one of the fastest States experiencing and observing climate change. Observations, history records, scientific notations and photographs are evidence, that climate change is dramatically and unexpectedly changing the environment of Glacier National Park and it’s surrounding regions of Montana.

Kicking Off Earth Month with a great show at the Atlantic Warf Gallery! I’m very excited to announce “ A New Horizon “ is on display as of this weekend through July 1st at the Atlantic Warf building in the Seaport waterfront district in Boston.
“ A New Horizon “ is to represent our changing landscape, when development is constantly on the rise for the next big high-rise, our landscapes suffer. Whether the area is environmentally safe or has environmental implications, the horizontal line of what we see disappears and obscures our perspective. Our natural landscape is constantly confronted with man-made changes that challenge it’s co-existance as years go by.
“ A New Horizon “
Moab Natural Luster Paper, dry mount, 30x30 in. $500
