High school vs Now

Kinda frustrated they didn’t have eyeshadow options or dark versions of the scars considering I have scars on my face 😞

And yeah, hair is curlier because I changed to CGM last summer lol So my hair is a lot curlier since I’m treating it right now!

Highschool me: Hasn’t seen the sun in years, theatrical goth makeup (my go to was lip stitching and upside down crosses), fake fangs, spiked collar, black everything, haircut like that one girl in Kitty.

Me now: Still goth, but tired. Have to go outside cause I have a dog now. Can’t fucking see. Ditched the collar but got a buttload of tattoos instead (picrew didn’t have tattoo options, so picture a chest and neck tattoo here).

Art is my number one, because it gives me value and a sense of power and purpose that I need in those times of insecurity. Basically, because of art, I always have the goal to improve myself.

Cats are amazing creatures. I have two cats named Worm and Flea my dad named them and their company is so therapeutic. Whenever I’m stressing about something, just cuddling with one of them takes the edge right off.

Fictional characters are life. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have a husbando to be obsessed with—probably be a normal freaking human being.  They compel me to do things I wouldn’t have done otherwise, like I wouldn’t be in this garbage can of a fandom if it wasn’t for a certain sadistic vampire.

The internet. Despite the fact that it knows how to fuel my rage, it’s done some pretty cool things for me. It has connected me with some very important people in my life that I wouldn’t have gotten to know otherwise.

My bed, because it gives a sense of comfort and safety that I can’t find anywhere else.

things i did that forced me to be a better artist:

used a reference for everything

thinner line art (you think thats thin? go thinner….)

sketch, then do a cleaner sketch, THEN start finalizing

THUMBNAILS

color research, picking a set palette or light/dark for each work

you like that pose? redo it one more time

USE A DAMN REFERENCE

do not rely on stylization as an excuse for anatomy

draw the goddamn background you coward

just draw the hand- a bad hand is better than a hidden hand

the rule of thirds WORKS

take a considerable break between sketch and lines/paint

know that art takes longer as you get better at it

draw the seams on clothes

stop aiming for accuracy and focus on fluidity and motion, accuracy will come with practice of those two concepts

just…do the chiaroscuro. just DO IT. no excuses it always works

stop making excuses, make yourself an art schedule/set weekly(or daily) art goals and just DO IT.
