Yang Jungwon has been always jealous of his brother. Being first in everything, getting everyone appreciate him, even his parents favor his brother more than him.
"Jungwon, come here. Your brother brought someone. Introduce yourself."
His mother said delightfully. Looks like she is so proud of the person his brother came with. Jungwon rolled his eyes and walked closer to them and finally sees the person his mom was talking about.
Jungwon couldn't explain how he feels at that time. He went speechless when he sees you shyly standing beside his brother while looked at him. His brother immediately introduced your name although that made Jungwon annoyed a little bit because he wants to hear your voice not his brother.
"It's rare for you to bring a girl to our house."
"Well because she is not just a girl. She is my girlfriend."
His mom screamed happily at his brother's remark but Jungwon didn't feel the same. He left the conversation and went straight to the table to dine the food his mom prepared. The dinner went good with his mom asked few questions on you such like when you started dating, about your family, your work and more. The conversation mostly focused on you and his brother. Jungwon wanted to leave the table since he felt his presence is not needed until he heard your voice calling at him.
"What do you do now, Jungwon? Your brother told me you just finished your college weeks ago."
"Um, well I don't have specific job right now. I just do part time when I'm free and at the same time I started planting some of fruit trees at our grandma's garden."
"That's awesome. Is the small garden at the front yard is yours?"
"Yes. I planted some flowers ---"
Jungwon's mother cut him off before he can even finish his sentence. His mom keep asking questions and questions leading to keep your attention focused on her. His brother also didn't care about Jungwon and keep talking between them only. Jungwon huffed slightly and went to wash his dishes before entered his room.
His face flushed when he remembered how focused you were listening to what he said. Usually, his mother or brother didn't pay attention on what he does as long as it's not embarassing their image, it's fine. He felt warm when you genuinely praising him. He loves it.
And maybe he wants it more.
"Do you like the flowers?"
Y/n looked at her behind and found Jungwon slowly walked and crouched beside her and stare at the flowers she was looking at.
"Yeah, the daisy looked so beautiful when I see it in front of my eyes. I didn't expect a man to plant flowers."
"Why? I think planting is really fun."
"Most of men thinking it was too difficult and planting flowers usually done by women. Even your brother thought like that."
Jungwon chuckled when he heard that sentence. Of course, his brother doesn't deserve to have you. Useless prick. He didn't know how to take care of woman properly.
Jungwon and Y/n started to get closer. But Y/n treat him literally like a younger brother and Jungwon is dying to get out of that zone and want more than that. That day, his brother went out to work while his mother was out to visit her friends and Jungwon was pretty sure it will take a long time so he wanted to use the time wisely to spend it with you.
He went out of the room and saw you were sitting in front of the piano on the living room. Seems like you wanted to try to play but didn't know how to so the notes that coming out sounds funny. He walked closer until he is behind you. While you still didn't realized someone has been standing on your behind, Jungwon took the chance to slide his hands on yours and hold it gently. Hearing you gasped and felt your hands shaking a little bit made him smile.
"Jung- Jungwon? What- what are you doing?" You stuttered through your speech. Jungwon didn't say anything but he started to move both of your hands on the piano.
"I'm teaching you." Just a short sentence from him and your tense body slowly relaxing. Little by little, you started to enjoy it and both of you lost in the time playing the piano with each other. Jungwon even taught you some simple songs that you can play on the piano.
"Thank you so much, Jungwon. It feels really nice."
"I'm always here for you, noona."
There are another week left until your marriage with Jungwon's brother. Everything has been prepared but you are still nervous about the ceremony.
"I hope everything will be fine."
"I'm sure it will. We did good so far."
Jungwon's brother reassured you. He knew you are the type to easily get nervous so he did his best to not make it too stressful for you.
"Hyung, can you take mom from her friend's house? She asked for it." Jungwon suddenly said made both of Y/n and his brother looked at him. His brother just nodded and stand up to take his coat before went out of the house.
"Be careful, okay?"
"Will do, baby."
Oh,
Jungwon certainly sure it will not.
Three hours have passed yet your boyfriend and his mother is still not back. Jungwon did told that her mother's friend house is not too far and they should be back in 30 minutes. At first, you tried to stay positive thinking that they may go to somewhere else before going home. However, when your text messages and calls didn't get answer you became paranoid.
"Jungwon, do you think we should go find them?"
"Let me try to call mom's friend first."
Before any of both of you can do anything, Jungwon's phone ringing. He picked up the call and you can read from his reaction, it seems something bad happened.
"Noona....they were in a hospital."
_______
_______
Jungwon's happiest moment in his life was the day he got to married with you. He still can't believe when you said yes to his proposal after few times you've been refusing. The second happiest moment when he decided to sabotage his brother's car that night.
When the doctor announced that his brother and mother did not survive from the car crash, he nearly jumped out of excitement. He had to control himself since you were beside him sobbing uncontrollably. He played his role as a hero so well that you never figure out he was the killer.
"I love you so much, Y/n."
"Love you too, Jungwon."
OH MY GOD YALL🤡🤡🤌HOW LONG I TOOK THIS TO FINISH GOSH SO SORRY FOR DISAPPEAR FOR TOO LONG😞😞i hope yall still didn't forget me

unbreakable bonds ꒰ no quirks au | childhood friends | friends to lovers ꒱ ⇢ a collective of family bonding and little moments between you and katsuki.
『♡』 k.bakugo x fem!reader ꒰ tags & content ꒱ emotional hurt/comfort, fluff, tooth-rotting fluff, happiness all around ⋆ ˚ʚɞ — just wanted to write something sickly sweet and it’s been sitting in my drafts forever. reader has a little sister that helps bond the two of you together over the years. cross posted to ao3 | word count; 3.3k -`✧ katsuki bakugo masterlist
You were too young - a little over three - to understand the day your mom brought home your little sister. You'd been secretly asking the universe for a sibling, someone to share everything with. Ask and you shall receive! But, you never knew just how much she would shape your life into what it is today.
The Kingdom - Elementary School
Fourth grade is when you and Katsuki started to play after school together on a daily basis. Him and Izuku would come by and grab snacks from your mom while you went back to the park around the corner, playing pirates and super heroes with the other neighborhood kids. Every so often, your mom would ask for you to bring your sister along. You never minded, even though she was your baby sister in first grade. The boys would pick on her - lovingly, of course - to make her feel included with the rest of the pack. She loved being around you, cooing and giggling away as she'd hold your hand and squeal with delight.
One day at the park, she'd declared herself to be queen of the castle as she stood on the slide, proudly puffing out her chest with her hands on her hips.
"I am the queen, and what I say goes!" she pointed to you and Katsuki. "Sissy will be the princess and you will be our royal guard, Katsu!"
You chuckle. "Isn't the older sister supposed to be queen?"
She does her best impression of a royal laugh, projecting her voice theatrically. "Not in my land! It's my kingdom and if you don't like it, I'll send you to the brig!"
"You're confusin' pirates 'n princesses again,” Katsuki taunts playfully.
She stomps her foot on the slide. “Silence in my kingdom! Izu will be my knight!”
Katsuki pouts. “Hey! Why don’t I get to be the knight?!’
“Cause I say so! You’re the royal guard cause you’re tough. Izu is the knight because he’s brave!”
You can’t help but let out a loud ‘hah!’ at her comment. Your sister never failed to push Katsuki in the cutest ways - he probably was thankful to be an only child whenever you guys would go home for the day.
Katsuki huffs at her declaration, taking the challenge with stride. “Fine! I’ll show you who’s tough and be the best dang guard in the whole world.”
“Do I get a cool set of armor, queen?” Izuku asks, bouncing up and down at the bottom of the slide.
“Of course! Only the best armor and ponies for my royal kingdom.”
She sits and pushes herself down the metal slide, rocketing off the edge past Izuku and barreling toward Katsuki. She trucks into him at full force - but, being small, that force isn’t much for him to withstand.
“What the heck was that for?!” he yells while catching her before she hits the wood chips.
“A test of your toughness, Katsu! And you passed! You’re deserving of a spot in my kingdom,” she giggles, mashing his cheeks together with her tiny palms. He protests her closeness and tries to fight her off, setting her feet back on the ground while she’s wiggling in his hold. Watching the two of them act like siblings themselves always made you feel so warm and fuzzy inside, knowing your two closest friends also adored your sister as much as you did.
You meander over to grab her from him. “Alright, I think you made your point, queen. Your guard and knight have other duties to get to.”
She waves goodbye to the boys over her shoulder as the two of you stroll home for dinner. She gleefully remarks how cool they are and that she can’t wait to marry them someday.
You can’t help but giggle at the thought. “Both of them? Wow, all to yourself, huh?”
She pouts and whips her head upward. “No, sissy! We both get one!”
”Oh yeah? Because you’re the queen of the kingdom, you get to pick?”
“That’s right! They’ll have to fight to see who gets to pick you!”
You roll your eyes, shaking your head at the thought. You’re only ten years old, the thought of boys fighting over you was hilarious.
”Promise not to tell Izu, but I think Katsu would win that fight,” she whispers, tugging on your hand to get you to lean over closer to her face. “He’s taller and faster!”
The thought of marrying Katsuki flashes in your mind - you have zero clue what that even looks like, but you imagine him bringing you flowers on the playground or giving you a bite of his ice cream. A blush creeps over your cheeks and nose at the thought. Your sister catches your reaction and gasps dramatically.
“You like Katsu?!” she exclaims.
You shush her. “No! Don’t go yelling that!”
That’s a big fat lie. You liked him a lot, he was your favorite person, but you’re kids.
It’s just a harmless crush.
───
An Enchanted Afternoon - Elementary School
A week later, the four of you returned to the playground after school. Snacks from your pantry in hand, the bunch of you sit on the swing set to eat. Your sister seemed extremely eager today, more so than usual. Once you all finished eating, she demanded your attention.
"Gather 'round! Your queen summons you," she declares, arms raised above her head. You and the boys huddle around her.
"Katsu, go fetch flowers!" she orders as she points to a nearby patch of grass. "Zuzu, clear out the sandbox of any villagers."
There wasn't anyone else here today, so that job was easily done. Izuku doesn't say anything and smiles as he heads over to the sandbox as ordered. Katsuki is confused, nose scrunched and arms crossed.
"Why do I need to get flowers?" he asks, tapping his foot in the wood chips.
"Do you dare defy your queen?!" she shouts, grinning wickedly. He obliges, sauntering over to the grass to find a few spare daisies.
"What's all this for?" you ask, genuinely curious to her plans. She doesn’t answer you as she grabs you by the wrist, dragging you over to the sandbox.
A few minutes later, Katsuki comes back with a handful of daisies, picked and pruned clean of any dirt and weeds. Izuku stands on the edge of the sandbox patiently.
”Perfect! Katsu, Sissy, please approach your queen.”
You play along and stand in front of her with Katsuki. It’s amusing how small she is in comparison to the two of you, easily shadowing over her figure.
“With my knight as witness, I give the blessing to the princess and royal guard to be married forever!” she exclaims, waving her hands around to mimic casting a magic spell.
You're pretty sure she got that line from a princess movie, but that doesn't make the sentiment any less adorable. You begin to chuckle to yourself, smiling ear to ear before turning toward Katsuki. You're expecting him to be disgusted, repulsed by something so sickly sweet, but are shocked to see him standing with the flowers outstretched in your direction. He's biting his bottom lip and avoiding eye contact by staring directly at your feet.
"H-here," he whispers meekly, pushing the flowers into your hands. You've never seen him so shy before - that's usually Izuku's demeanor. His unexpected affection makes your little heart flutter in your chest.
"Thank you 'Suki," is all you can muster up the courage to say, your mind running blank on the right thing to say. It's just an imaginary scenario...It's not real, not like you're actually marrying him. Katsuki exhales, turning his back to you to hide his strawberry colored cheeks.
"Now you're together forever!" you sister raves, dancing on her tip toes with satisfaction.
Maybe that was the moment she bound you two together with some unknown magical force, or it was a mere coincidence. The sappy part of your young brain believed in fairytales and chose to believe she was weaving your golden string to him, binding you two for life.
───
Leftovers - Middle School
”Yo, brats! Come eat already so I can get the hell outta here,” Katsuki called from your doorway. He’d come by with leftovers from his mom for you and your sister, since your own mom was working later that day. The two of you were still…friends? You weren’t sure. Being in seventh grade and all, he started acting like you weren’t cool enough for him. He did the same to Izuku, starting to ditch the two of you for other kids in class to hang out with at lunch or walk home with. Did it hurt your feelings? Absolutely. But you didn’t own him, he was allowed to have other friends, even if it did suck to see him less outside of class.
“Coming!” you called back, skipping down the hallway with your sister in tow. She happily ran into the entryway, hugging Katsuki by the waist. She was taller now, but still much smaller than him as a fourth grader.
“Hiya Katsu!” she gleamed up at him, rubbing her face against his uniform jacket.
He grunted, uncomfortable with her sudden affection and poking her in the forehead to release her grip. “Let go, squirt!”
He turned his attention to you as your sister finally let go of him. “Here, take these. I gotta get to practice.”
”Thank you! Tell your mom we said hi.”
“Yeah, whatever.”
You hand the containers to your sister as she wanders off to the table. Before Katsuki opens the door, you tap him on the shoulder.
“Hey, are you alright?”
He scoffs at your question. “Why wouldn’t I be?”
“You just seem distant lately. Wanna come by sometime for a movie marathon?” you ask, tilting your head and giving him a warm smile.
“We’re not kids anymore. Got better stuff to do.”
Ouch, that stung. Your smile fades away as you reply. “Well…I know. I just miss hanging out with you.”
“You have Deku an’ that other group of bitches you hang out with, ya don’t need me.” His harsh comment has notes of jealousy intertwined in his words. He goes to put his hand on the door again before you take a step forward to stop him.
“Kat, they’re not a replacement for you. You’ve got your own friends now, too since you’re on the soccer team. You’re saying we can’t hang out 'cause we have different friends?”
He glares at you before pushing past you and pulling on the front door.
“Hey!” your sister shouts from the dining area. “Katsu, that’s not nice. My royal guard doesn't act like that!” She’s always thought of Katsuki as a guard since your elementary school playground days.
“Cut the shit! We’re not kids anymore!” Katsuki rebuttals with a growl of frustration.
He makes eye contact with you. “We’ve grown apart, end of fuckin’ story. Get over it.”
He slams your front door closed and leaves you standing in the entryway, your eyes stinging from the urge to cry. You feel a small gust of wind rush by as your sister is sprinting to the door, throwing it open and running outside without shoes on.
“Hey!” She calls after Katsuki. “Get your butt back here, Katsu!”
He turns on his heel. “Hah?!”
She stomps on the ground, fists balled at her sides. “Apologize to her!”
Katsuki cackles, a little too manically. “For what, brat?”
“You’re being a mean jerk to her! She doesn’t deserve to be yelled at like that. Friends are friends forever, idiot!” she yells, her cheeks puffed and eyebrows scrunched together.
You can’t help but stifle a laugh at her calling Katsuki an idiot and turn your head to hide your amusement.
”That’s not who you are, Katsu. That’s not how you treat your princess!”
He pinches the bridge of his nose and screws his eyes shut in annoyance, exhaling dramatically. He locks his gaze on you, storming back up to the doorway. He roughly ruffles your sister’s hair as he passes by her as a pseudo apology. Katsuki sucks the air through his teeth and shoves his fists in his pockets as he stops in front of you.
“Look, ‘m sorry for yellin’, okay?” he sighs, kicking a foot against the pavement. “I'll come over Saturday, we’ll have that movie day ya wanted.”
"You don't need to if you feel forced to hang out with me." Your eyes shift to your feet to avoid looking at his reaction.
" 's fine. I'll be here at noon, don't pick anything lame."
With that, he turns to leave for a second time in silence. You watch him disappear around the corner and can't help but feel like a burden for asking him to make time for you. As if reading your mind, your sister shakes you out of the negative train of thought while walking back to the house.
“Don’t worry about him, he’s just being a dumb boy. That’s what my teacher says when boys are mean for no reason.” She grins a toothy smile up at you and grabs your hand. “Come on! Foods getting cold!”
Katsuki rounded the corner and waited to be out of sight before palming his face in anger. He had no idea why he said those things to you. None of it was true, especially that you’d grown apart. If anything, he was jealous of your friends and missed seeing you all the time. But he couldn’t bring himself to say so, like always. Ever since middle school started, he’d harbored some unknown rage inside of him that lashed out every chance it could. He hated it and didn’t know what to do to stop it - hence trying out for the soccer team, looking for an outlet for the pent up emotions in his body.
Katsuki secretly hoped you wouldn’t end up despising him for it. Even after all this time, he still thinks of you whenever he sees a patch of daisies.
Maybe one day he’d be brave enough to tell you about it.
───
Running Late - High School
The front door to your home opens as Katsuki slips inside, kicking his loafers off by the door. Your younger sister peaks over the kitchen counter while spreading jam over her toast and nods in his direction.
"Hey Katsu, pretty sure she's still asleep upstairs," she calls, rolling her eyes. "I tried to get her up three times, maybe you'll have better luck."
It was hard to believe that she was already in her freshmen year of high school - shit, it’s crazy that you and Katsuki were seniors. The age of playground days and summer adventures went by in the blink of an eye.
He makes his way to the kitchen island, leaning over to ruffle your sister’s hair - some things never change.
"Thanks, bean. I'll get her ass movin’."
“Stooop! You’ll mess up my hair!” She whines as she pulls away, fixing a few stray pieces of her fluffy mane.
“Ya look fine, don’t sweat it,” he compliments while heading for the staircase. He makes his way to your bedroom on the second floor. The door is surprisingly cracked open - he taps on the doorframe to grab your attention.
“Come in,” you call, lying on your bed facing the wall above the covers while scrolling on your phone. You presume it’s your sister until a soft kiss is planted on your cheek.
“Mornin’ sweets,” Katsuki whispers, rubbing your shoulder to turn you to face him. He sits on the edge of your bed beside you. “You wanna be late for our last first day of high school?”
You shift to sit up and drop your phone to your bed, reaching to cradle his face in your hands.
“No, I just wanted to steal a few kisses first,” you mumble as your lips quietly meet his. Katsuki places one hand on your cheek while the other lightly grazes your back. After a few moments, the two of you part with a soft smack. You stand and straighten up your uniform skirt, flattening a few of the panels to work out any stray creases.
“Do I look okay?” You ask, spinning around for Katsuki and showing off your uniform. Your hair was pulled into a pretty ponytail with a few pieces framing your face. The only make up you had on was some lip gloss - you valued sleeping in over doing a minimalist makeup look today.
“Y’always look good,” he sighs, standing to his feet. “Let’s get movin’ before bean suspects somethin’.”
You hadn’t told your sister about your relationship with Katsuki. Sure, you guys had been friends since you were children and he’s always around…how would she know the difference?
The two of you patter down the hallway and skip down the stairs to the kitchen. Your sister is waiting for the two of you, arms crossed and tapping one foot impatiently.
“Finally! Get your damn shoes on,” she orders while pushing you toward the door. She does a double take at Katsuki while you’re putting on your shoes, raising an eyebrow at him.
“Katsu…are you wearing lipgloss?”
Oops.
Katsuki’s searching for something to say as his face glows scarlet. He puts a hand on the back of his neck and turns away, grumbling while attempting to hide his embarrassment.
“Oh come on, you two. I knew you guys started dating months ago. You think I didn’t notice?”
You spin around to face her, cheeks puffed and eyebrows scrunched. “You never said anything?!”
She laughs, walking up to Katsuki and placing a hand on his shoulder.
“If you ever hurt her, Katsuki, I’ll knock your lights out. I know where you sleep,” she threatens, grinning mischievously. Katsuki pulls her into a headlock, ruffling her hair a second time.
“Deal, but I plan on stayin’ alive.” He lets her go, chuckling as he smooths out the pieces of hair he messed with.
Seeing the two of them get along never fails to make your heart swell with joy. Katsuki has always treated her like his own sister - one that he could easily give back at the end of every day, anyways.
She turns with a huff with her hands in the air.
“You both have my blessing, you should know that. I didn’t marry you two in a sandbox for nothing!”
───
Today Was A Fairytale - Current Day
“It’s an honor to be doing this for a second time. You’re in luck, my vocabulary has grown exponentially since our sandbox days.”
There’s a wave of laughter through the crowd at your sister’s lighthearted joke. You can’t help but smile as Katsuki’s fingers dance across the back of your hand to regather your attention.
God, he looks so damn handsome in that tux. His usual wild hair is slicked back and tamed - an extremely rare sight. Carmine eyes stare back at you, full of devotion and excitement for this next chapter in your fairytale.
“By the power vested in me, and these people as my witness, I pronounce you two as king and queen of the kingdom!”
Friends and family alike cheer and whistle as you and Katsuki intertwine, kissing each other for the first time as husband and wife. He spins you around and dips you low, kissing the tip of your nose playfully.
“I love you,” he mouths, a silent profession of adoration - reserved just for you.
The two of you strut down the aisle to the dance floor in the reception hall, the DJ already queuing the first dance song. Katsuki gently tugs you by the waist, pulling you closer to him as he begins to sway side to side when the music begins to fill the room. You rest your head against his chest and get lost in the moment.
Right now, the world belongs to the two of you. Every worry, struggle, and hardship is stripped away from your lives to give you the peace you deserve.
There’s one thought that lingers in your mind as you catch a glimpse of your teary-eyed sister watching you from the corner of the dance floor, latched onto Izuku’s arm for support.
She tied that golden string with an unbreakable knot.

Surviving Tuesdays

Scarlett Johansson + Daughter!Reader
Word Count: 2K
A/N: Day 2: I've merged a lovely request from an anon with the @taylorswiftmicrofic prompt for 2nd of January, which is 'muffled'.
.
‘You have to stop worrying about this.’ Your best friend advises. You try not to roll your eyes and instead stare up at the cloudy sky.
You lean back flat along the cement wall that has always been your favorite place to hang out since you joined this school.
‘Didn’t you say she went to that gay wedding last year?’ Your best friend asks, stretching out her back lazily.
You press your fingers into the rough stone beneath you and try to focus on the sting.
‘It’s not the same.’ You mutter at last.
You can feel her looking at you. The obvious question on her lips. Why Not?
You don’t answer. You don’t have one. It’s just a feeling.
You keep picturing your Mom’s eyes when she hears bad news. The fake smile she has when she’s secretly disappointed.
‘I guess it doesn’t matter anyway.’ Your best friend says after a moment. Her voice is resigned now and it makes you sit back up automatically. Your head tilts in a silent question.
You watch your best friend stretch out again, full of that sleepy energy that comes from surviving Tuesdays.
‘If you aren’t ever going to ask me out, then why does it matter?’
Your mouth falls open in shock. Your hand slips against the cement and you forget how to breathe.
.
You pace back and forth behind the closed door to your Mom’s home office. Dinner is in ten minutes. Your Mom has almost certainly finished working for today.
Almost certainly.
Your heart has started thudding with anticipation. Your palms are clammy. You’ve not even said anything yet. You’re thinking too far ahead. You just have to say it.
You knock on the door.
Your Mom’s voice is soft when she invites you in. She’s obviously tired. Your brain goes fuzzy as you are faced with the moment.
Her head tilts and she gives you an apologetic smile.
‘I’ll be late for dinner.’ She apologises. ‘It’s been one of those days.’
You leave the room.
You take a deep breath as the immediate fear recedes. Still, the worry in your chest doesn’t lessen.
.
Your Mom can tell something is wrong.
She’s been giving you careful looks for the last week. Detailed follow up questions to every answer you give about how your day’s been.
Today, Tuesday again, she has offered to pick you up from school. You watch her trying to be subtle as you sit on your favorite wall. She is peering out the car window at the group of people you’re sitting with.
Your best friend has her head on your shoulder. The bright sun means her eyes are closed. Her arm is around your waist and you can’t seem to stop smiling.
Her annoying brother, who’s only a year older, is leaning backwards over the wall beside you. He’s complaining about all the stupid people in his class and the bad grades that he doesn’t think are his fault. He is trying to arch his back completely over the wall, stretching out to see just how far he can reach.
It occurs to you that your best friend and her family might actually be part cat.
Her brother snags a dandelion from a patch of dirt to the side of you. He grins victoriously as if this is an achievement to be proud of. He is lifting it in the air like it deserves a celebration.
When your Mom texts and says that she’s here, you’re too flustered about your best friend’s head on your shoulder to even think about the dandelion that you’re holding.
When you catch her staring at the tiny flower that you’ve carried into her neat car. You only roll your eyes and apologise, opening the car window and throwing it out.
.
Your Mom is acting weird.
She doesn’t ask you any questions on the car drive home. It’s one of the rare times that there is an awkward silence between you. She’s chewing her bottom lip and staring with unnecessary focus at the empty street in front of her.
You feel your stomach rolling with the horrible certainty that she’s figured it out. You fiddle with your backpack’s straps and try not to look too worried.
You get home and hurry from the car up to your room, before your Mom can change her mind and say something. You dump your backpack on your desk and fall onto your bed. For a moment you fight tears. You see a text on your phone, and it’s from your best friend. You text back and try to distract yourself with the person it’s always been so easy to talk to.
You wander down just before the usual time for dinner. You vaguely have a plan to grab a plate of food and disappear back to your room before anyone can stop you. But you find your Mom sitting at the kitchen island and know you are doomed.
Her smile is nervous but you can tell that she’s trying to seem relaxed.
The kitchen counter has an order from your favorite takeout.
You hesitate in the doorway and are certain that you’ve walked into a trap.
‘I thought why don’t we get takeout?’ Your Mom says in a light tone that always sets your teeth on edge. You’ve heard her use it in TV interviews and now it sounds too fake to be true. ‘We deserve a treat.’
You only nod silently and go to make up a plate of food. Your Mom does the same and then she gestures for you to sit beside her.
For a moment, you eat in silence.
‘I’m sorry you didn’t feel like you could tell me.’ Your Mom says suddenly and your attention snaps to her as the moment unfolds. You try to read her expression worriedly.
Her eyes are concerned but they don’t seem disappointed. Suddenly you feel a rush of relief.
‘You’re growing up so fast.’ Your Mom continues softly and she cups your cheek like she used to do when you were smaller. She looks at you for a moment, like she can’t believe how quickly time has gone.
‘And I want you to know that if you want to have boys over. That’s okay. Really. As long as you keep the bedroom door open. Of course, that’s okay.’
You feel like you’re suddenly sinking. You move away from her touch as a nausea rolls through you. You mutter something about not feeling hungry anymore.
You go upstairs, lock yourself in your bathroom and cry.
.
Your Mom is sitting on your bed when you finally leave the bathroom. Her face is full of worry.
You stiffen at her expression. The dread and nervous anticipation have hardened into something else now. You just want to get it over with.
You speak before she does, wiping the last of your tears with the sleeve of your sweater.
‘I don’t want to invite boys over. I want to invite girls.’ Your eyes are stinging and you screw them shut, covering your face with your hands. ‘Just one girl.’ You correct yourself quietly, voice muffled.
Your skin is going numb all over and you feel like a monster just standing there. You’re scared to open your eyes.
You hear your Mom stand up from the bed. Her hand touches your arm hesitantly and, with a deep breath, you dare to look at her.
Her expression is full of an all-encompassing sadness and for a moment it’s worse than you could have imagined.
Then she’s hugging you tighter than you can ever remember being held. She kisses your hair and you can hear her whispering an apology that you don’t know what to do with.
You hug her back.
After a moment, you both pull back.
Your Mom brushes the hair from your face tenderly. She looks worried like she might say the wrong thing by mistake. Weirdly, it reassures you. Your Mom is only nervous when she really wants something to go well.
‘So that’s why her head was on your shoulder.’ She says at last with a careful smile.
You bury your head against her so she won’t see your cheeks flush.
You both sit down together on the edge of your bed. Your Mom’s arm stays wrapped around you. You start to talk about the girl you like and all the things that you haven’t been able to say before. The tight feeling in your chest starts to ease.
.
It’s not a date technically.
Technically you’re just hanging out together.
Because you’re so casual and absolutely not an overthinker.
Your best friend obviously knows it’s a big deal. Still, when you invite her over, she only smiles and stretches her arms out before wrapping them around you.
‘Yeah, why not.’ She mumbles into your shoulder.
Your hand rubs up and down her back absentmindedly. You googled yesterday that cat’s can sleep 16 hours a day. You think it explains a lot.
.
You don’t let your Mom pick you and your best friend up on Tuesday, even though she offers.
More than once.
Instead, you decide to walk back.
Because this is casual and totally not a big deal and actually, meandering together in the vague direction of your house, pointing at random things is the most casual thing two people can do.
There is nothing you can do to stop your Mom from opening the front door before you’ve even walked up the driveway.
.
‘Hi!’ Your Mom is smiling wide and you can already hear that bright tone in her voice that sometimes sets your teeth on edge. Except right now, all you can think about is that she seems nervous. Weirdly, it makes you braver.
Your Mom gestures to the inside of your house as she opens the door wider. She’s looking nervously at your best friend.
‘Welcome. Welcome. It’s so wonderful to meet you at last.’
‘Hello. You too.’ Your best friend has never sounded so formal and polite.
But you can feel her moving subtly behind you. And suddenly her hand is reaching for yours, squeezing it with an overwhelmed kind of shyness.
Your stomach flips because maybe it isn’t completely casual.
Maybe this does mean a lot to her. And maybe it does to you too.
.
Your Mom is pointing out all the rooms on the first floor with a weird formality like she’s trying to remember her lines in some theater production. Her loose blonde hair keeps bouncing against her shoulders as her head moves back and forth.
‘I’ve lived here my whole life.’ You remind her pointedly.
Your Mom pauses as she looks at you and you see her recollect herself. She takes a moment to carefully tuck a loose piece of hair behind your ear.
You realise that she is actually mortifying and so not capable of being casual that this was a terrible idea.
She looks between you and your best friend, who is finally brave enough to not be staring at the floor or your shoulder. Then your Mom looks down at your joined hands.
You watch her eyes swim for a second with too much emotion and then she swallows it down.
‘There’s snacks in the kitchen.’ She rasps out, glancing back up at you both. ‘And you have to keep the bedroom door open at all times.’
You hear your best friend huff out a nervous laugh beside you.
There is no point pretending to be casual.
Not when you really want this to go well. You’re too like your Mom.
‘Mom.’ You say finally, giving her hand another squeeze. ‘I want you to meet my girlfriend.’
A few minutes later, you lead your girlfriend up to your bedroom. You make sure to leave the door open.
Your girlfriend stretches lazily and falls back against your bed.
‘Tuesdays.’ She says dramatically, as you put your backpack down on your desk.

Kinktober 2024 day 5
Ray Manchester x reader | bondage
Prompt: After Ray finds out Henry’s mom has a single sister, he gets excited.
Warnings: bondage, kidnapping lowkey, cursing, dirty talk, slight age gap, NSFW
Not proof read, also a little rushed
˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗
Henry and his boss, Ray, were standing in the Hart’s family’s kitchen, discussing business when the blond boys mom caught Ray’s eyes once again. It wasn’t the first time it happened, whether he would be Ray or Captain man.
He started complimenting her, while Henry watched the scene before him, getting annoyed. “Hey Ray, I think it’s time for you to go home..” he says, starting to push him towards the door.
“Henry don’t be so rude, c’mon Ray stay for dinner” “My sister Y/n is coming over too” Mrs. Hart said smiling, oblivious to the fat crush Ray has on her. “No no no, he needs to go” Henry quickly said. “Well of course mrs. Hart, I’d love to stay” he said with a wide smile while Henry sighed.
All of the Hart family (plus Ray) were seated across the table, talking and joking around (Henry and Piper arguing) until they heard the door ringing. “Oh that must be Y/n” Mrs. Hart stood up walking to the door.
Ray peaked over to see how the Y/n looked like but he never expected what he was about to see. The most beautiful girl in her mid-twenties, with the prettiest smile he has ever seen.
“Hi y/n” almost everyone greeted, except for Ray. “This is Ray by the way, Henry’s boss” Mrs. Hart spoke, sitting beside her husband while you sat beside the handsome man, smiling and reaching out your hand to greet him.
“Well hello, Ray” you said with a flirty smile. “Hello, nice to meet you” he replied, straightening up.
˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗
Ray with his charms was getting to you, hitting on you every chance he got. Even Henry was surprised he didn’t say anything about his mom even once. As you were catching up with Piper and her ranting about how she got 4 likes less on her post than one of her friends you felt a big hand grasp your thigh, squeezing it.
You gasp at the gesture, Piper thinking you reacted to her rant she spoke up “I know right!! I deserved those likes way more than her” she started talking again but you weren’t really listening to her anymore. All you could think about was the hand that was now going up your mini skirt
His fingers were getting closer to your cunt, heat spreading across your body. Ray was unbothered, praising Henry how much of a good job he was doing at Junk N’ Stuff to Mrs. and Mr. Hart.
You gripped Ray’s hand, that was now rubbing your clit, coughing. “I think I should go now guys” you said “I have a lot of stuff to do tomorrow..” you said smiling while standing up, fixing your skirt. “You guys should come over at my place for dinner some day” you said, looking over at Ray.
“Am I invited?” he raised an eyebrow. “Yeah sure” you quickly replied and saying your goodbyes.
“Well I think i should be going too” “Have some work stuff I have to do..” he trailed off, having something in mind.
“Awh are you sure you don’t want to stay for dessert?” Mrs. Hart said. “Oh no, Im good. Thank you for the dinner it was so good” he said leaving quickly. “Huh, is something happening at your job tomorrow?” Henry’s mom asked Henry. “Uh yeah” the boy replied knowing Ray is probably going to do something stupid.
You were walking on the dark streets when suddenly someone grabbed you by your waist, and suddenly everything went black.
˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗
You woke up on a couch, with Ray walking towards you. “Hi y/n” hs said smiling. “Ray? what am i doing here?” you said confused. “Someone tried to attack you and I saved you, you fainted” he lied a little.
“Where are we?” you asked sitting up, looking around. “At my place, I didn’t really know where you live, so I took you here” he said hovering over you. He had a noticeable bulge in his jeans that didn’t go unnoticed. You could tell he was big.
Flashbacks from dinner got to you, slowly getting up, closer to Ray. He was tall. Much taller than you. You reached up to his face, yanking his lips to yours.
“Ray, I don’t know what you’re doing to me but i need you right here right now” you gasped as his hands flew to grab your ass. “I have that charm on women” he jokingly said, pulling in for another kiss.
You both got on the couch, Ray already without a shirt on making out while he ripped off your button up, the buttons flying everywhere. You gasp at the cold air hitting your skin, which gets shut by Ray’s lips.
“I want you” you gasp out, gripping his big biceps. “Yeah?” “How bad?” he asks, hands going down your waist. “Alot.” you say as he pulls down your skirt along with your panties, throwing them somewhere.
Ray took out some kind of device “i wanted to try this one out for while” he said looking down at you, pressing the little button. On seconds ropes tied around your arms, waist and neck.
You moaned at the thought of being completely in Ray’s hands. He took off your bra with one swift move, smirking. “You like this?” “You kinky whore?” he asked, flipping you over, pussy out in the air. You felt a spank on your cheek, moaning at the feeling.
“How bad you want it?” he asked, unzipping his pants. “Really bad, Ray” you pleased, gripping your own skin because your hands were tied to the side of your waist. “Say it again” he finally took out his cock with the tip throbbing at this point, slapping your ass with it.
“Say my name again” he repeated. “R-ray please” you plead as you finally felt him push himself in you. He was even bigger than you expected. Tears started rolling off your cheeks, half from pain, half from pleasure.
He shoved his fingers down your throat, thrusting fully in you. “Yeah whore you enjoying this?” he asked, head falling back. “M-mhm” you murmured because that’s all you could say at that point
Every thrust he was getting all your right places, no man has ever done that. He flipped you over on your back, quickly pulling back in. He went up to your face, pushing his tongue down, almost choking you.
Your cheeks were now stained with mascara and dried tears as Ray went down your neck and tits leaving dark bruises. You started moaning uncontrollably as your climax was coming close, as-well as Ray, who had his hands tightly gripped on your thighs.
“Yeah cum for me Y/n” he said with lust as you came on his dick while he was still thrusting. He didn’t stop nor slow down at all, chasing his climax that was so close. With one last moan of yours he gave out and ejected into you.
He helped you get out the ropes as he put on his boxers on, flexing his biceps hoping you will notice. Let’s get into the hot tub okay?” he asked.
“How rich are you?” you asked half jokingly half not. “Don’t worry about it” As he went to the other room to get something as you stood up to look around.
It looked like a cozy living room, until you pressed a button and one of the door’s opened, revealing a lab like room with a bunch of monitors and stuff. “RAY WHAT IS THIS” you screamed surprised. He quickly ran over to you “Y/n you wasn’t supposed to see this” he quickly regretted bringing you to the man cave. But also for some reason trusted you, so he told you about who he is.
“My nephew is Kid Danger??” “When did that kid become so cool” you questioned, more excited about Henry being kid danger than being in a hot tub with Captain Man himself.

2019
Before leaving for his tour, Marshall had apologized to you about three hundred times. You had just gotten engaged and he had to leave you to plan the wedding on your own, while he was touring Europe for a month and a half. The two of you didn’t want to wait to get married and agreed to do it as soon as he came back. The day before he left for his tour, the two of you almost went to city hall to get married in a haste. You couldn’t wait to finally be married and officially be a family. In truth, neither of you really cared about having a lengthy ceremony, a reception or proper wedding attire. You just wanted to be married. But as you were ready to get in the car and get to city hall before closing time, you were met with doubts, especially Marshall.
Should we do it ? Are you sure ? He asked.
I’m game if you are, you said with a smile. I can’t wait to be your wife.
I can’t wait to be your husband. Won’t you regret having a proper ceremony, though ? He asked.
I don’t care, you said. But if you’d rather wait, we can do it too…
I don’t want to wait, he said. But maybe… Maybe we can call my daughters ? They wouldn’t want to miss it.
Of course, you said. Maybe we could have one of them FaceTime my parents so that they don’t miss it either ?
Great. And we should celebrate a little, maybe go to dinner ? He suggested.
Should I dress up, then ? You asked. If we’re going out after, I should at least wear a nice dress.
I should at least put on a nice shirt, then, he agreed.
Ok, we get dressed, book dinner, call the girls and my parents and off we go, you said.
Should we call Paul, Denaun and Tracy ? He asked. They were here when we met, they’re our closest friends, they should be celebrating with us.
Ok, but then perhaps Royce too ? You asked. And do they bring their significant others ?
You stopped and stared at each other before bursting out in a fit of laughter. He kissed you lovingly.
Who are we kidding ? He chuckled.
Do you… Do we want an actual party ? You asked.
I think I do, he admitted. I love you, I can’t wait for you to be my wife, but I think I’d regret not celebrating properly. You deserve actual vows, a nice place to get married, a first dance… I want us to do this the right way. And I don’t think your mom would forgive us if she wasn’t there to attend, and possibly have a little figurine of herself on top of the cake.
You’re right, you giggled. But I don’t want to wait too long, though. Let’s do it when you get back, ok ?
Ok, he agreed. Right after I get back, I’m marrying the shit out of you and you’re mine forever.
I’m already yours forever, you said cheekily as you showed him your engagement ring.
It had been a couple of months since he got on one knee at dinner and proposed with the most beautiful ring you had ever seen. You should have gotten used to the rock sitting on your engagement finger by now, but you were still giddy every time you looked at it. Knowing that he took your daughter with him when he went to pick the ring also made it that much more meaningful. That very night, he also stated his intention of adopting Lily and caring for her. Ever since you’d met, he had always been incredible to her and, even though the adoption wasn’t official yet, he was very much a father figure to her. You knew leaving her for six weeks was just as hard for him as leaving you. By his own admission, he loved your little routine as a family and was going to miss it while on tour. Sadly, he was also going to miss her second birthday. Unfortunately, the tour had been planned before the two of you started dating, so there was no way he could have known. He was gutted, though, and he kept on apologizing to the both of you.
It’s fine, you said. We’ll celebrate with you when you get back.
It’s not the same, he shrugged. But I’d like that.
If anything, you’ll miss the party with all the kids from daycare, so you’re pretty lucky, you giggled. I sort of want to skip it…
Why did you plan it in the first place, then ? He mused.
Because apparently, it shows that your kid and family are socially adjusted, you explained. And if I- if we want her to get into the right preschool…
You’re still set on that fancy preschool, aren’t you ? He asked with a raised eyebrow.
You still think that’s stupid ? You asked.
I think preschool is preschool, he chuckled. My kids didn’t go to any fancy preschool or kindergarten. In fact, they went to all public schools and did great. But if you think it’s what’s best for Lily, sure.
Yeah but now that you’re adopting her, you should have a say- you began.
Doesn’t matter, he said. I’m not against it. In fact, if you want me to foot the bill, I will, happily. But, just in case she doesn’t get in : you should remember it’s preschool, not Harvard, and that her life won’t be ruined if she goes to a public preschool. I’m pretty sure they use the same crayons anyway.
True, you giggled. I know it’s stupid, you know ? But Lily is my first and only child. I only want the best. I know you have more experience with your girls. I should probably chill… You know better.
I don’t know if I know better, he chuckled. You’re the best Mom she would ask for. Plus, you know… When I had my daughters, I wasn’t in the same position as now. I wasn’t able to be as present, physically and mentally, too. But Lily… was Lily’s going to get the best version of me.
We’re pretty lucky to have you, you said lovingly.
I’m pretty lucky too, he said. I’m really going to miss you. I’m not even gone and I can’t wait to be back, already.
Hopefully, we don’t burn the house down with that wild Project X party for her birthday, you joked. Are you sure you’re ok with me hosting it here ?
You live here, now, don’t you ? He said with a smile. Besides, the house survived Nathan and the parties he threw when I was on tour and he lived here, so it should be fine with the kids from daycare.
You were still navigating your new life as Marshall’s fiancée. Before your engagement, you didn’t live together but after he asked for your hand, you ended up moving in with him in his house. You still weren’t too used to the place. Before, you spent most of your time in your house, since all of Lily’s stuff was there. But given his celebrity status, Marshall needed his security nearby and it made more sense for you to move into his house, which was in a gated community, than for him to move into yours. You liked the place and he had made the cutest bedroom and playroom for Lily, who absolutely loved it, but you had yet to claim the place as yours. Though now that you would be left here alone for six weeks, you’d have no choice.
On the morning he left for his tour, the goodbye was bittersweet. As a collaborator who worked for Shady Records and his biggest supporter, you were excited for him because you knew he loved performing, but as his fiancée, it was hard to let him go. He was standing by the door, bags in his hand, ready to cross the threshold. You were holding Lily, ready to say goodbye. Six weeks would be too long. He let go of his bags to hug you one last time.
I’m going to miss you, he said. I’ll FaceTime everyday, alright ? Or at least, as much as I can.
Sure, you said. Say bye to Dad, Lily ?
Bye, she said in her little voice.
Bye baby, he said softly. Take care of your Mom, alright ? And don’t become a giant while I’m gone.
He kissed her little head and she giggled. You tried to get her to say « Bye Dad » but referring to Marshall as her father wasn’t natural for her yet. He wasn’t bothered by it, though, and said that she’d use the word in due time.
Bye, my love, he said before kissing you tenderly. I love you.
I love you too, you said. Have a safe flight. And say hi to everyone for me.
Will do, he said. See you in six weeks.
You nodded and watched him leave, tears in your eyes. As soon as she saw the car leave the property and the tears in your eyes, Lily understood that Marshall might be gone for longer than usual and started to cry. You knew it was going to be a long few weeks. However, Marshall kept true to his words. He FaceTimed you every night and even read a couple of stories to Lily, who was always happy to see him on the screen. The tour was going great and he was having fun, though he missed you a lot. As for you, you kept working and planning the wedding. At least, this kept you busy.
Two days before Lily’s birthday, you were looking at your phone and showing her pictures and videos of Marshall on stage and she finally pronounced the magic word.
Daddy ! She shrieked.
That’s right my love ! You said happily. That’s Daddy. Oh he’s going to be so happy !
You couldn’t wait to tell Marshall Lily had finally referred to him as Daddy. Though you wished he’d been able to hear it for himself. You had two weeks left before finally seeing him and you couldn’t wait for your little family to be reunited. That’s when you decided that enough was enough and, without second-thought, you decided to book plane tickets to join him in Europe. You never thought your daughter would have a father but now she had one and your little ray of sunshine deserved to have her favorite person by her side for her second birthday. And since he couldn’t make it home, home would make it to him. You immediately started packing and called Tracy.
What’s up beautiful ? She asked. Marshall’s on stage right now. Want me to get him to call you back when the show’s over ?
Hey ! No need, you giggled. I thought I should give you a heads up… I’m flying to Europe with Lily. We’re packing right now.
Seriously ?! She asked. It’s going to be great to see you girls. He’s going to be so excited when I tell him !
Can you not ? You asked. I thought I’d surprise him !
Oooh that’s a good idea, she said with excitement. Do you need me to book your flights ?
I’m good, thanks, you said. I just wanted to let you know. We’ll be in Sweden tomorrow afternoon.
I’ll send the details of the hotel so that you can drop off the bags, and tell security to let you in the arena, Tracy offered. And if you need me, I’m one phone call away !
You were incredibly thankful for Tracy. She was the first person you befriended when you started working for Shady Records and she had been instrumental in your relationship with Marshall. In fact, she was the very person who told you to go for it, and who opened your eyes to the fact that he was into you.
As soon as your bags were packed, you got in the car with Lily, heading for the airport and ready to catch the first flight for Sweden. You couldn’t wait to see Marshall.
It was Lily’s first long flight, going out of the country, and it turned out to be an absolute nightmare. You had only managed to book economy tickets and you had to sit through an entire flight with your daughter in your lap while she was all fussy. You tried playing with her, reading to her, letting her play with her phone (even though you were absolutely against the idea of kids playing with technology) but nothing would do. Your back hurt and you knew you’d have to face the music and deal with jet lag, all while trying to work remotely for the duration of your stay. But regardless, it was worth it : you were determined to spend Lily’s second birthday with Marshall. Before the flight, you also took care of canceling the party, making up excuses and saying that Lily was sick. When you touched down in Stockholm, you were excited, despite the lack of sleep. Lily was starting to be sleepy as well, which made her less energic. Travelling with a toddler wasn’t too easy and, since you couldn’t pack the stroller with you, you had to carry her, as well as your bag, hers and the diaper back. So much for packing light. You only planned on being gone from home a few days but, even with the bare necessities, it was a lot. Thankfully, you got the help of a very nice taxi driver who took you to the arena. It was 2:00 and you knew that, around that time, Marshall was probably starting soundcheck. You grabbed your phone and let Tracy know you were on your way. It had been on airplane mode for hours and you just realized you had missed calls from Marshall, as well as texts asking if you were alright and if you were mad at him. As soon as you got out of the cab, you found Tracy waiting for you in front of the arena. She hugged both you and Lily and helped you with your bags.
I made arrangements with the hotel this morning, they’ll have a crib set up in Marshall’s suite for Lily, she said.
You’re a godsend ! She’s been fussy the whole flight, hasn’t slept one bit… I can’t wait to put her down for a nap, hopefully get some rest, you confessed.
Someone else’s been fussy, she pointed out. He was gutted that you wouldn’t pick up the phone right before Lily’s birthday…
I didn’t even think of that, you said earnestly.
Don’t worry, all will be forgiven as soon as he sees both of you, she said reassuringly.
You entered the arena and she led you backstage, where you greeted by the whole team. Paul was surprised to see you and you had to say that you had come on impulse and moved your schedule around. He was still your boss and it hadn’t really occurred to you that you should keep him informed. However, as always, he was understanding and you suspected it had something to do with Lily hugging him and cooing « Unc Paul ». Your baby had Marshall’s whole team wrapped around her finger. Seeing all these familiar faces gave her a surge of energy and she was all giddy. You were led to the side of the stage, where you could see Marshall and Denaun doing sound check. They were absorbed and didn’t see either you or Lily. However, your daughter immediately spotted her Dad and favorite Uncle and she started shrieking.
Daddy ! She said.
You want to go and see him, baby ? You asked.
Yes ! Daddy !!! M’ere ! She called.
However, with the music being so loud, no one could hear her. You put her down and she immediately started running towards Marshall, who had his back turn and had no idea Lily was coming his way. You immediately took out your phone to capture the sweet moment. At some point, Porter spotted her and smiled as he stopped everything.
Look who’s-
DADDY !!! Your daughter shrieked.
Marshall turned and, as soon as he spotted Lily, you could see his face light up. He put the mic down and lowered himself for Lily to run in his arms. He engulfed her in a big hug and held her tightly.
What’s my name ? How did you call me ? He asked with the biggest smile.
Daddy ! She repeated with pride.
That’s right, baby ! Daddy missed you so much, he added as he kissed the top of her head.
He looked around and finally spotted you. You stopped recording and ran to hug him as well. You held each other for a long minute, savoring each other’s presence.
God I missed you, he said as he buried his face in your neck.
I missed you too, you said. We missed you.
I’m so glad you’re here, he said. I was worried when you didn’t pick up the phone last night.
Sorry, you said. I was on the plane when you called. I wanted Lily to have her favorite person by her side for her second birthday.
You’re amazing, he praised before kissing you. I’m so happy to see the two of you. Wait, I lost track of time… it’s today, right ?
It is, you giggled.
Happy birthday, baby, he told Lily before kissing her.
I can’t believe our baby is two, you said emotionally.
I can’t believe you flew all the way here, he replied. I’m so happy. You’re amazing.
I wouldn’t have been able to sit through this party and celebrate when Lily doesn’t have you by her side, you said. It doesn’t feel right. Birthdays are a family thing.
How about preschool ? He asked with a raised eyebrow. I know one of the moms at daycare is the director…
Don’t care, you chuckled. My baby has her Daddy by her side and that’s all that matters.
You stayed by Marshall’s side during soundcheck and attended his performance. Lily was wearing noise-reducing headphones and she was excited to see her Dad performing, jumping around and interacting with fans. It was a shame she was too young to remember it later, but she seemed to be having a blast. At some point, though, she fell asleep I your arms, absolutely exhausted by the time difference and the whole flight spent without closing her eyes. She had slept a bit during the day but it wasn’t enough. You were rocking her, holding her close to you when Marshall walked off the stage after the show. You could see him melt as he saw her asleep.
She’s so cute, he commented.
She was a handful, you replied. I’m glad she’s asleep.
I can’t wait for her to wake up, though, he chuckled. We haven’t even celebrated her birthday yet !
We can just have cake and make her blow on a candle tomorrow, you giggled. She won’t mind that it’s a day late. She won’t remember anyway. But at least, we’re together. That’s all that matters.
I’m so happy to have my girls with me, he said lovingly. Now, how about we hand Lily to Tracy for a second and you help me shower ?
You giggled and agreed. Tracy had always been a doting aunt figure for Lily and she had absolutely no problem watching her - not that it was too much trouble when Lily was sleeping peacefully. As soon as you were alone in his dressing room, Marshall locked the door and kissed you passionately before pining you against the wall.
God, I missed you, he said in between kisses.
Missed you too, you whispered. Missed this.
He chuckled and removed his tee-shirt. After almost two hours on stage, he was a sweaty mess but you didn’t care one bit. If anything, you liked his scent and were even more attracted to him - which you could probably blame on your compatible pheromones. You playfully ran your hands on his chest, in his back, happy to finally be able to touch him. He reciprocated by helping you out of your clothes and, soon enough, you were in the shower, kissing sloppily while lathering each other in body wash. You enjoyed the warm water pouring over you, relaxing your muscles after a long trip, as well as Marshall’s hands all over your body, teasing your breasts, grabbing your butt… The two of you couldn’t get enough of each other. While you were apart, you sent a great deal of nudes and sexy texts to each other but nothing compared to the real deal. You weren’t sure if you had to blame it on your exhaustion (his from the show, yours from the trip) or simply the euphoria of being reunited, but you swore the both of you never came this quickly before. You simply laughed it off and cuddled for a while on the couch. You were taken out of your little bubble when you heard Tracy knock on the door.
Hey lovebirds, she giggled. Time to drive to the hotel.
You quickly got dressed and went to get Lily. You expected her to be sleeping but, instead, you found her wide awake, playing with Denaun. Obviously, the little one was too happy and didn’t care too much about rest and sleep, much to your dismay. Toddlers were a handful and, even though Lily was a rather easy child, you definitely liked it more when she had proper rest. Otherwise, she could get a bit difficult, like any other child her age. Denaun was teaching her how to answer the question : « Who’s the GOAT ? » (apparently, « Nauny » was the only acceptable answer).
Finally, you two, Denaun grinned. Finally got it out of your system ?
Shut up, Marshall chuckled.
Not before the wedding, you said innocently.
Check it out, guys… Lily, who’s the GOAT ? He asked.
Naun- DADDY ! She giggled as soon as she saw Marshall pointing at himself.
Fuck you, man, Denaun sighed. Took me twenty minutes to get her to say it !
Language, Marshall scolded as he took Lily in his arms. That’s right babygirl. Daddy’s the GOAT.
Marshall was still beaming over the fact that he had finally earned the « Daddy » title and proudly carried Lily on his shoulder on the way to the car. Once you were at the hotel, everyone gathered in Marshall’s suite for dinner, which mainly consisted of snacks. You tried to get your daughter away from the sugary snacks and scolded Denaun for sneaking her some, but it was a lost cause. Even Marshall indulged her.
If she has sugar this late, she won’t sleep as well, you pointed out.
But she’s so happy, your fiancé pointed out. And it’s her birthday…
Speaking of which, Tracy said, it’s time to blow candles, don’t you think ?
You hugged your friend, who had taken the time to order a small cake with candles from room service as soon as she learned you were coming. Everyone sang your baby happy birthday and she was elated to have some of her people with her. When it was time to go to bed, you went to the bathroom to brush your teeth while Marshall put your daughter in her PJs. You walked in on him holding her and gently rocking her as she was yawning. He was so absorbed that he didn’t see you.
Happy birthday again, my princess, he said with a smile. I’m so happy Mommy brought you here. I missed you so much. I swear to God, and I swear to you, I’ll never be away on your birthday again.

summer loving

After a long car ride, your family’s car finally pulls up to the front of the expansive main lodge for the lake resort. Once you get settled into the private house, you excuse yourself from your parents to take a look around and stretch.
While getting ready for dinner, you call your friend from home, Gia. “Babe! Any cute boys?” Gia asks as soon as she answers the phone.
“I haven’t even seen anyone up close yet. But, I doubt it.” You say, curling your lashes.
“Seriously? Ugh. You need to find someone while you’re there. I mean- are you seriously going to spend the whole summer with just your parents at this stupid camp?” She responds.
“I dunno, G. It’s the first day- and there’s no point. I don’t want anything long distance and what about Peter?” You say, cleaning up your makeup products and shoving them back into your bag.
“Forget Peter! He’s a loser, you know that. Plus, what do you really think he’s doing in D.C? You think he’s spending the whole summer at a UN Summer Camp and not flirting with girls?” She says, sighing and moving around on her bed.
“He’s passionate about it. Maybe he’s really just involved, you know…” You sigh, slipping on your shoes. “Give me a break, Y/N/N. You deserve better than Peter. Maayyybbeee he’s there right now.. Hm? Good luck. Have fun at dinner.”
“Bye, G, love you.”
“Byeeeee!”
---
“The Cameron’s will be joining us for dinner tonight.” Your dad says, while looking at the mirror in the front hallway in the private house, fixing his tie. “Who?” You say, standing next to him, fixing your lipgloss. “Y/N, The Camerons. We talked about Ward in the car here. You went to summer camp with his son, Rafe.” He says, turning to look at you.
“Rafe?” You say, furrowing your eyebrows, “What kinda name is Rafe?”
“Y/N.” He sighs, “If it helps, his name is Rafferty, but he goes by Rafe, he always has.”
You giggle.
“Rafferty? Does Mr. Cameron hate his son or something?”
“Y/N.” He sighs, moving to the door when your mom comes out, dressed for dinner.
---
Once you and your parents walk to the main lodge for dinner, you get stuck listening to an old man talk to your parents for fifteen minutes. Suddenly, you’re praying that Rafferty and his family shows up, insteading of wishing they’d call and say someone was sick and can’t make it.
Conveniently, once you wish that, your father’s face lights up, looking at the entrance. “If you’ll excuse us, Mr. Graham, our dinner guests are here.” He says, shaking the old mans hand, and walking towards Mr. Cameron, while your mom stands up to greet them, pushing you to stand up, subtly. Mr. Cameron walks confidently with his wife slightly behind him, and a trio of kids who look less than excited to be at a hidden business dinner.
“Ward!” Your father exclaims, shaking Mr. Camerons hand. “You know my wife, and this is my daughter, Y/N.” You give the whole group a tight smile, shaking Mr. and Mrs. Camerons hand, before everyone moves to sit down. While your mom pushes you out of your chair so that Mrs. Cameron, whose name you learned was Rose, could sit next to her.
You end up sitting in between Rafe and a girl a little younger than you. Rafe gets sat next to your father, and across from his father, and he seems unbelievably displeased about it.
The girl on your right turns to you. “I’m Sarah, it’s nice to meet you.” She smiles.
“Y/N. Nice to meet you.” You smile back, happy that you didn’t have to make the first introduction.
“That’s Rafe, and this is Wheezie.” She says, pointing to the younger girl on her right.
“How did you-”
“Get the name Sarah?” She laughs softly, and you nod. “Rafe’s name is Rafferty, still stupid if you ask me. But, Wheeze’s real name is Louisa.”
You smile at her joke, and nod.
---
During the dinner, you promptly ignore the men at the table, mainly talking to Sarah, but also answering questions about school and colleges from Rose, and listening to Wheezie talk about the latest book she’s reading.
However, it was physically impossible to ignore the, shamelessly, beautiful boy on your left, who smells good, and is much taller than you thought. Not forgetting how nice his arms look in his suit and, Peter had completely left all of your thoughts when you accidentally brushed Rafe’s leg when you bent down to fix your shoe.
---
The next day, your mom had a scheduled salon appointment with Rose Cameron and your father wanted to mingle with potential businessmen at the men’s lounge.
This meant you were left completely to your own devices, deciding to go to a lakeside morning yoga session that Sarah had also drug Wheezie to, so you joined them.
---
Rafe had waken up late, his father had told him about the men’s lounge and how it would be good for connections, hinting that Rafe should join him, but in his opinion, he was tired of connections and needed a break.
He pulled a shirt on, and stumbled out of the private house, realizing that it was completely empty, he walks to the kitchen to see Sarah had written on a lime green post it note and stuck it to the countertop, “Taking Wheeze to yoga, Rose at salon, Dad gone to lounge. Meet for lunch at 12.”
He looks at the time displayed on the stove, 11:45.
---
“Will you come to lunch with us? I promise that Rafe will be better company this time around.” Sarah pleads, in her hot pink matching lulu lemon set. Wheezie nods, pushing up her glasses, “He always gets so tense around dad. I think it’s dumb, but he always does.” Sarah gives you a look, almost begging you not to push that topic further. You nod, “Okay, sure. I’ll come, but only if you’re sure he won’t mind.”
Once you, Sarah, and Wheezie show up to the resturatnet in the lodge, you see Rafe already sitting at a table near the large floor to ceiling windows overlooking the lake.
He watches the three of you walk over, as Wheezie finds a seat next to him, while you stand awkwardly, waiting for Sarah to sit across from Rafe. Naturally, however, she doesn’t and she gives Wheezie a look as she sits across from her, forcing you to sit across from Rafe, smiling awkwardly as you make eye contact with him.
Sarah and Wheezie excuse themselves to use the restroom. Once they’re out of earshot, the boy sighs, looks out to the lake, and straightens his back, “I’m uh- I’m Rafe, by the way, I don’t think I ever actually introduced myself.” He says, turning his head to look back at you.
You smile softly, “Y/N.”
He nods, “Nice to meet you.” You take a sip of water, “you too.”
i hope you girlies liked this chapter, it's a little slow rn sorrryyyy, let me know if you're liking it and if there's anything you'd like to see, i'm totally down to incorporate things into the story MWAH

When your Gen X, boomer cusp boy mom mother can't read the room to save her life.
AN: If anyone is interested in some more Lyric lore, you can check out my TikTok for part one and part two of her backstory. Trigger Warnings: pregnancy loss, depression.
prev / next
Myrah: Oh, my sweet boys! I missed you so much!
Sonny: So you went and got married, huh? Didn’t think to tell us, mama?
Olive: [whispers] Girl, not your mom getting her groove back.
Lyric: [groans] See, this is what I’m talking about...
Nina: [whispers] This was not on my Myrah visit bingo card.
Ernest: We eloped. Nothing too fancy, since it’s both our second marriage. I can send some photos your way, just got to get them developed.
Mel: Developed?
Myrah: My Ernie is an old soul. Very old school.
Sonny: Uh-huh. How old exactly?
Lyric: Isn’t there a dinner we’re supposed to be eating or something?!
Myrah: Oh, that’s right! Everyone sit, I’ll bring out the food.
Sonny: Yeah, maybe get this man a shirt while you at it..
[awkward silence]
Sonny: How’d you meet my moms, man. What’s all this about?
Mel: This isn’t some life insurance scam, is it?
Myrah: Boys!
Ernest: We met at a Divorce Support Group.
Lyric: [sucks teeth] Why are you still going to those? You were divorced over 30 years ago...
Myrah: There’s no expiration date on support! I can still go. We take a trip to Cancun every year.
Ernest: She was telling her story about being a young mom in a loveless marriage, and I really felt that. I was a young father, too.
Sonny: [grumbles] Tuh. Ya don’t say?
Ernest: I asked her to join me for coffee one day, and well, the rest is history.
Myrah: Ernest completes me. We don’t let things like our age keep us from being happy. Ernest satisfies me in ways you can’t imagine-
[Everyone groans]
Ernest: Meeting your mom really changed my life, kids.
Olive: I get it. It happens to the best of us. I fell in love with a beautiful, elegant, rich older woman, and my life has never been the same. I’ll probably never fall in love again.
Sonny: ?????
Myrah: Thank you, Olivia. Kids, I just want you to be happy for me. Don’t I deserve that?
Lyric: This is weird! You get married without telling anyone, and it’s to some guy who’s like half your age. Why would you think we wouldn’t be upset about this?
Myrah: Well, honey, you’re not a little girl anymore. I can do as I please and not have to tiptoe around what my children think. I’m allowed to live my life however I want.
Ernest: Your mother’s right. And I think if you gave me a chance, I could show you how I can be a great father figure and role model to you and your brothers.
Lyric: Am I in the twilight zone?? What the hell is happening right now??
Ernest: Ah! Little man’s burgers! Must of slipped my mind. I guess age is catching up to me.
Sonny: Mhmmm, which is how old again?
Myrah: I’ll get it. Sit tight, baby.
Lyric: [sneers] You! Did you know about this?
Sonny: What! No!
Mel: I mean, you did say you talk to mom everyday. She never mentioned this?
Olive: Can we get these dishes passed around or...
Sonny: I mean, she mentioned having a friend name Ernest once but I’m thinkin’ he’s some old guy she met!
Ernest: [chuckles] Yeah, I get that alot. I normally go by EJ. Ernest Sr. is my father’s name.
Sonny: Uh-huh... and who yo daddy? Probably went to school with him...
Myrah: Alright, got one burger for my big strong, handsome grandson!
Myrah: What? What’s the matter?
Lyric: Mom, there’s cheese and stuff on it! He doesn’t like that! He’ll only have it plain!
Myrah: Ok! Ok! No problem! I’ll just pluck it off! I-I didn’t know-
Lyric: You would have known if you’d bothered to get to know him at all! You don’t know anything about any of your grandchildren, Mateo especially! All you care about is that he’s a boy.
Lyric: You don’t listen to me when I tell you about things that overwhelm him. You don’t listen to me at all! I’m not going to let you make him feel invisible like you did me.
Myrah: Lyric, wait! Please don’t leave like this! Talk to me, Sunshine!
Olive: Um. Thanks for the to-go plates, Mrs. M. I bet it would have been really good when it was fresh.
[tires screeching]

taesan was back in town, all your friends had let you know. you had so many messages letting you know that they had seen him around town. you tried to push the thought from your mind, he must have been there for the holiday season. you two broke up about two years ago, though you reconnected at least twice in between now and then and tried again. it simply never worked out. when you walked into your family home you heard your mother call out from the kitchen, "y/n, darling dinner will be done in about an hour!" you made your way over to the staircase a solemn look on your face calling back out to her, "okay let me go get ready." a soft sigh fell from your lips as you made your way up the stairs and into your bedroom. you still had things from taesan in there which helped absolutely none, you haven’t been home in quite some time, college kept you busy. you looked at the picture of the two of you from last year, smiles on both your faces and you had to lay it face down on the nightstand. “why did you have to fuck up.” you muttered to yourself as you lay down in bed to just take a moment.
there was a knock at the door and you expected it to just be some company your mom had invited over. that is until you heard your mom calling up the stairs, “y/n some boy is here to see you?” she had a tone of confusion. she honestly didn’t remember taesan’s face but if he had said his name she would have known exactly who he was, the boy that broke your heart into pieces. you got up and walked down the stairs stopping about halfway down when you saw the raven haired boy, “no, get out.” your gaze hardened as you turned to go and walk right back up those stairs. “y/n wait please.” he said his gaze on the ground looking rather pitiful. your mom glanced between the two of you and decided this had nothing to do with her so she excused herself and to the kitchen to busy herself, but of course you know she is listening in. you stopped on the staircase, your back still to the boy. “i have nothing to say to you taesan.” the truth was that you had so much to say to him, so much was left unspoken between the two of you. “then just listen.. please that’s all i ask.” his tone was soft as he inched towards the staircase his hand going over yours as you clung to the railing like your life depended on it. the second you felt his skin on yours there were some mixed emotions somewhere between god you missed him touching you to he doesn’t deserve to hold your hand right now. you tugged your hand away and glanced over your shoulder shooting him a glare. “you have fifteen minutes. that’s it.” then you walked yourself up the stairs and into your room indicating for him to follow. he did just that, stepping into the bedroom behind you and closing the door behind himself. his eyes scanned the room and not much had changed since the last time he was in there, it brought a little smile to his face.
you sat on the edge of your bed and stared at him not saying a single word, you did say you had nothing to say to him and well that was implied by your continued silence. “i went to the store today right? i was reaching for our favorite cereal and your mom rounded the corner and i said oh hey ms. y/l/n and she looked at me confused. she didn’t know who i was and i didn’t think that would hurt, but it hurt because it meant that i am nothing to you again. just a stranger to your mother.” his gaze stayed on the ground just a moment before he looked back up and made his way to the desk chair, he wanted so badly to sit next to you but he had to respect your boundaries. “i was filling out my class schedule and i still kept your schedule in mind because i wanted to be able to walk you to classes, then i remembered you aren’t mine. every time i wake up from a dream where we are happy and doing all the things we said we would do i feel empty.” he inhaled sharply, to the point where you heard it and you could hear the sincerity in his voice. “i know we weren’t perfect and i know that i messed up letting you go. it’s why i had to come here and i had to see you. shit i had no idea if you would even let me in.” now his gaze shifted from the ground to your eyes. you felt like squirming under his gaze but you still sat there just listening to what he had to say. “we can’t fix everything overnight. i know that. i know that i have to put in the work but y/n i want to try again. i want to hear your laugh, i want to see your smile, i want to be there for your good days, your bad days, i want be the reason for some of those things.” he felt like his mouth was going dry from all the talking and he could feel his heart in his stomach. “so please, please let me make it up to you.” the silence lingered for another few minutes as you processed all of that. your heart was beating so fast because you wanted to jump right back into his arms but your mind told you to be more practical. “taesan..” you held his gaze another moment and your eyes were brimming with tears but you pushed that down the best you could, “we’ve tried twice, why will this time be any different?” you knew it was true you kept forgiving him and you kept ending up in the same spot. “because y/n i want to work for every moment with you and i don’t want to jump right back into it like nothing happened. we start fresh, go back to being friends and work our way back to dating if that’s okay with you.” he hoped with everything in him that this was going to work if not he would leave you alone. you let out a soft little sigh then after another two minute silence you spoke up again, “okay.. but just friends for now.” you didn’t expect to look up and see him smiling so wide but you did and because his smile is contagious you smiled too. this was just the start of a journey and a new chapter of your story.

(Shallow Hal AU)
Ever since Lucifer was a boy he always felt he deserved to date the most beautiful men and women. He was a good man, but he was extremely shallow. It didn’t matter how the person was on the inside, he wanted to date that person if they were deemed hot by his standards. But that made it so he didn’t have any fulfilling relationships. He was going to therapy over this and they went on the subject of his dating habits with his therapist Bel.
Lucifer: I don’t get it, I date the hottest people around and none of them end up lasting.
Bel: It seems that is because you focus too much on the outer beauty instead of the inner beauty which is what matters the most.
Lucifer: I don’t know what to do, my mind keeps telling me that I should be going after the hottest person in the room.
Bel: I have an idea, I am going to hypnotize you so that you can only see the inner beauty of a person. Depending on how strong their inner beauty is, it will affect how they look to you.
Lucifer: Ok, I don’t buy this hypnosis bullshit, but I will try it.
After Bel hypnotized him, Lucifer paid and left the office feeling foolish. But his jaw dropped when the most beautiful man he had ever seen walked by him. He had brown hair the same shade as milk chocolate, honey brown eyes, a little soul patch on his chin, a light dusting of freckles across his nose and cheeks. Best of all he had he had a sexy muscular body. He wore a shirt of some rock band, jeans with holes in the knees, and combat boots. The reality was that this man looked exactly the same except he was chubby. The man that Lucifer saw was Adam.
Lucifer: Hey beautiful.
Adam looked up confused, no one ever really called him beautiful except for his mom and he felt she did that because she was his mom.
Adam: Is this some kind of fucking joke? Did someone dare you to flirt with me?
Lucifer: Why would you think that?
Adam: Look at me, I am not exactly that much to look at.
Lucifer: That isn’t true, I think that you the most beautiful person I have ever seen.
Adam could sense the sincerity of Lucifer’s words and for some reason it made him feel a little better about himself especially since this guy was very handsome.
Adam: My name is Adam Kadmon, what is your name.
Lucifer: Lucifer Morningstar, let me make it up to you by taking me out to dinner tonight.
Adam: Ok.
They exchanged info and Adam gave Lucifer his address. He couldn’t wait to tell Lute that he had a date. Once home Adam looked at his reflection in the mirror and smiled at it for the first time. He remembered his ex girlfriend Lilith who used to date him because she considered him hot, but then she became disgusted with him when he gained weight. In fact she would make him cry when make pig noises at him and get her friends to do the same. But Lucifer made him feel beautiful for the first time in a long time.
Lucifer went home to get ready for his date with Adam, he couldn't believe his luck. Adam blew all his expectations for beauty out of the water.
Lucifer made sure to wear a nice shirt and his best cologne, it always helps when you smell nice.
Walking to Adams place to pick him up for their date, Lucifer was shocked by some of the people that he saw. Some were just downright hideous it made his skin crawl.
He shook it off as he knocked on Adams door and the angel of a man answered, his perfect smile bright, white, and breathtaking.
Adam: You showed up.
Lucifer: Well of course, I wouldn't miss it for the world.
He offered Adam his arm and he accepted, they went to this nice little restaurant that was a 10 minute walk away.
Adam: Wow this place is nice, I've been here.
Lucifer: It's really nice. Go ahead and get anything you like, it's my treat doll face.~
He winked and Adam flushed a pretty shade of pink across his cheeks.

Christmas cheer
When a relationship not known by Chris’ family is suddenly front and center when he insists on her coming to his family Christmas festivities. Just how insane can she expect it to be? And how bad will it effect her relationship?
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
“I just need my bathing suit and I’ll have all my clothes ready to be packed.” I tell him as I hold the laundry basket in my arms
He nods as he remains half out of it staring at me
“Chris?”
“Mmhm?”
“What’s on your mind?”
He sighs as he sits up saying “I’m not liking the idea of not being together on Christmas. The best holiday.”
I drop the laundry basket and walk over to him, I sit on the armrest of the chair as he pulls me towards him
His lips press to my shoulder as he says “The Bahamas are so lame right now. Change your flight. Let’s go there for New Years. Boston is so beautiful right now.”
Sighing I say “My whole family is there, and they would love to meet you. You know that. I talk about you all the time and my mom already loves you. Why don’t you come with me? And then we can celebrate New Years with your family?”
Slowly he considers giving in as my eyes practically melt him and my lips press to his as I smile widely
The corners of his lips curve upwards in response to me and he groans saying “My mom and sisters would kill me if I missed Christmas. My nieces and nephews are expecting me there.”
Nodding I sigh saying “So basically we can’t spend the holiday together. And we’re back to square one.”
He smiles to me and says “Yeah. I guess so.”
But that look on his face for a split second was awfully mischievous and I know he’s up to something.
He pushes my hair out of my face and kisses my collarbones as we draw closer to each other
“It’s snowing in Boston. Have you ever been to Boston when it’s snowing?”
“No. I haven’t.”
“Winter is my second favorite season there. A white Christmas is my favorite. And my family goes all nine yards.”
“Oh really? What do they do?”
He smiles and says “Well my whole big family pile into my childhood home and we spend the whole week together. My mom has us baking and cooking all week and we go see a Christmas play on Christmas Eve. And we have a Christmas Eve party after. And Christmas Day is the best, seeing my niece and nephews excitement over the gifts is the best. My mom makes us spiked hot chocolate and we have this massive dinner. It’s literally heaven.”
The pause sits for awhile as I think on my family, my parents have my sisters and all their friends in the Bahamas with them currently
I paid for the vacation, called it an early Christmas gift.
But… Boston doesn’t sound too bad
“If.. I can change my flight, I’m in.”
His eyes widen suddenly as he looks to me surprised saying “You’re serious?”
I scoff saying “Was that not a real offer?”
“No! No it was real. I’ll.. I’ll call my mom telling her you’re coming along.”
I nod and stare at the laundry across the room. I sigh saying “im not going to need that bathing suit am I?”
He laughs whole heartedly and I grumble saying “You owe me time at the beach. I need ocean and sun time.”
“Promise. New Years with your family in the Bahamas. We can stay a week longer than your family. Just us.”
I sigh into him as I grow relaxed, nodding saying “That sounds perfect. Just what I need after the shit-show movie I just wrapped.”
“He was a terrible director.”
“He made me pull my hair out. I need to strictly rely on Greta and Sofia for work. They’re the only tolerable directors I’ve worked with. Besides obviously the marvel projects.”
He nods saying “Making everyone work on a holiday is crazy.”
“Well you saw how well that worked out for him.”
Chris laughs saying “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie crew so happy that an actress went full diva for them.”
“They all deserved to be with their families, regardless if they celebrated the holiday or not.”
“Trust me, I know they were thankful.”
I sigh saying “Yeah…. Now tell me what I need to pack for Boston.”
“You need to start with at least 3-4 coats or jackets.”
I make a winced face and say “You’re kidding.”
“That doesn’t include winter coats. Do you have a winter—”
He pauses as he looks to me as I produce a pinched expression and shrug saying “I don’t own anything like that.”
“We’ve got a lot of work to do then.”
The flight was simple enough, I overpacked and had to check my bag. Chris didn’t have to, he had a small enough bag for it to be a carry on
I realized how big of a mistake it was to check my bag the minute I started looking through the carousels for my suitcase
Only to my surprise it never came around. Chris felt terrible as the flight attendant informed me that my suitcase, along with half the passengers were left to fly out on the next plane
I blinked in response to her, feeling anger rise within me “what do you mean you left my suitcase?”
“It will be delivered here in a few hours. We can ship it to the address you—”
“I just want my things! Why couldn’t you fit my suitcase on the plane?”
“There are certain rules and regulations we need to follow, the flight was sold out and we couldn’t exceed a certain weight—”
“Everything I need is in my suitcase! It’s 25 degrees out! I need my things!”
Chris wraps his arm around me attempting to calm me down saying “Honey… honey it’s alright. We’ll figure it out.”
I scoff saying “Don’t give me that. You carried your suitcase on. You have everything you could possibly need. I have nothing. My scripts were in there. I needed to run those lines.”
He sighs and attempts to comfort me as he looks to the lady saying “How soon will it be shipped?”
“The second it’s in our custody. You should get it by tomorrow.”
“That’s not so bad, you’ll have all your things by tomorrow. In the meantime we’ll figure something out.”
The Bahamas are sounding a lot better now
“Yeah. Okay..” I say unconvinced and on edge
Chris had called his mom a day ago telling her he was bringing his girlfriend and she was surprised to find out so late in advance
Pretty frustrated this is one of the few times she’d even heard about me.
But before I wasn’t even his girlfriend, we were just going on a few dates. He thought it was easier to just say that to his mother instead
We were both so busy, there was no time to share with anyone else but each other
And we used every single minute we could find with the other
He’d fly to me and leave in the morning. Or I’d fly in at 9am and have to leave at 12am.
He knows he should have mentioned his girlfriend earlier, to not only his mother but probably his sisters and practically anyone else in his family
I ask as he drives our rental car towards the house “Scott’s there already?”
He’s the one person I really knew from his family, considering how often he visited
“Yeah. He just got to the house this morning.”
I swallow hard saying “And your mom, Lisa knows I’m coming to Christmas?”
“She knows, relax y/n. There’s nothing to worry about. My mom will love you and we’ll have a great time.”
“So your older is Carly, and Shanna is your younger sister. Then there’s your dad and he’s a dentist. And then there’s miles and—”
“Clearly you’ve done your research.”
I sigh as I run my hands down my face saying “I wouldn’t even need to. You love your family, you talk about them constantly. I can’t believe this is the first time I’ve met them. I could probably recite their birthdays at this point… oh my god. Don’t let me say that to them. I’m losing my mind. I’m so nervous, were you this nervous to meet my mom?”
He laughs as I scramble my sentences together quickly, talking way too fast
“Your mother gave me no warning, I met her in my boxers while I was getting the paper. I had no time to be nervous.”
I smile and look to him saying “She thought you were handsome immediately.”
He shakes his head saying with a chuckle “No, her first comment was asking why I was so pale.”
Laughing I shake my head saying “I can’t believe she said that.”
“She wasn’t wrong.”
He livens up my mood just switching the topic, I feel better already. He squeezes my hand saying “Just don’t overthink this and you’ll do great. Promise.”
And that’s when we turned down a street where I saw a suburban neighborhood, it was different than I was used to
There was an inflatable Santa on the large patch of grass in the front yard and lights thrown up onto the gutters, brightly colored
The driveway was full and it made me uneasy. Chris put the car in park and once he turned off the engine he looked to me “you ready to go in?”
“The gifts were in my suitcase, Chris. I have nothing for them—”
“You have your bright smile. That’s enough, we can go shopping in the morning or wait for your suitcase. All that matters is the gifts under the tree by Christmas.”
A sigh releases my lips as I look to the sprawl of inflatables across the front yard that I hadn’t noticed earlier
Some that are so clearly Boston suburbia that it’s odd to me
“Oh. That’s Jim. Moms had that inflatable for decades. It’s older than all the grandkids combined.”
“What is… it supposed to be?”
“It used to be an 8foot tall snowman, one of the first to be released. But it’s face wore off so is kids drew a new one on with sharpie and… yeah that was the result.”
Scott slowly sneaks around the car, and slams his palms into the glass of my car door
I scream as I jerk my head towards him and heave heavy breaths as my screaming stops
Chris laughs loudly and boisterous as I nearly kick the door open. It hitting Scott as I climb out, pushing his shoulder as his laugher only annoys me
“You’re an asshole!”
He and Chris just think my reaction is the funniest thing possible
“Did you hit your head when you jumped that high?”
He tumbles to the ground as he falls in the snow and practically cries with laughter
I huff in annoyance saying “Why would you do that?”
“He didn’t tell you?” Scott struggles to say as he gasps for air as his laughter slows
I look to Scott saying “We have a whole competition going, scaring each other. We do this basically every time everyone’s home.”
Chris smiles as he says “She has an out, it’s her first Christmas with us. She is free of the jump scares.”
“No way! She needs to experience the evans family Christmas in every way.”
Chris gives Scott a look and I walk away saying “I’m freezing. Can we please go inside.”
Scott nods saying “that sounds like a great idea.”
Chris nods as he lifts his suitcase through the snow and pulls his jacket off as he drapes it over my shoulders
I look to him thankfully as I tighten it around me. I slow to a stop as I wait for one of the two brothers to lead the way
Chris steps in front of me as he says “You okay?”
“Yeah. Just cold—” but I’m cut off by Scott running towards us and throwing a snowball into the back of Chris’ head
Scott laughs as I feel the corners of my smile turning upwards quickly as I laugh quietly as Chris huffs out a breath of annoyance
“oh… little brother you so shouldn’t have started this.”
“Chris.” I plead as his hand digs into the snow
“Just let me reach this little punk a lesson.”
And they’re already at it with each other. I stand there as Chris creates a snow ball throwing it towards his brother as Scott ducks out of the shot
My sisters and I were never like this. They were 12-15 years older than me. By the time I was 5-6 years old they were out of the house or in college. I was basically an only child with occasional visits from my sisters
But Bree moved to England for a job and Elise lives across the US. Hawaii, with her husband. Her husband is stationed in the navy there
I wince as both Scott and Chris tumble roughly into the snow but I smile because it’s hilarious
“They do this often.”
My shoulders jump at the voice, I thought I was alone out here
I look to the woman and say “And I’m sure it’s entertaining every time.” My smile shines towards her and she breathes out a laugh saying “Yeah. Most of the time. I’m Shanna. You must be y/n, his girlfriend. Right?”
Nodding I say “yes, that is me. I’m sorry to intrude on your Christmas, he insisted I have a Boston Christmas.”
“You don’t have family around here?”
I pause and say “They’re in the Bahamas for Christmas.”
“And you picked this over that?” She laughs as I shake my head saying “I couldn’t leave him. We try to spend any second we can together. I’m sorry, are you Carly or Shanna? Chris talks about his sisters so much but I can’t place your name.”
She smiles saying “Shanna. His younger sister.”
“Oh okay. Thank you.
She nods saying “How’d the two of you meet?”
“Work. Of course. There’s not really anywhere else I could’ve meet someone.”
“You’re an actor too?”
I nod and say “Yeah.”
“Are you cold? We could go in while they sort this whole thing out?”
I look towards Chris as he has Scott pinned down with knee pressed against his back.
Scott’s face doesn’t leave the patch of snow as Chris tells him to tap out
I look to their sister saying “Is this normal?”
Shanna smiles saying “Yes. When they’re around each other they get like this. They’re brothers that’s for sure haha.”
I bite at my lip saying “I really am freezing. We could go in.. I’m just anxious.”
“Why don’t you head in while I get these idiots into the house?”
She steps away before I can argue the offer
I swallow hard and walk towards the house, I so don’t want to go in alone
Scott is pulled up from the snow and pushes his brother as he looks to me as Chris brushes off the snow on his clothes
“Babe, you can head in. You look like you’re about to freeze.”
I nod to Chris and ask “Just walk in?”
“My ma doesn’t care, she has everyone just walk right in.”
I stare at the door as I push it open and enter the house. Shutting it behind me to keep all the warmth in the house
I’m first hit with voices and I slow to a stop as I attempt not to intrude
But then I quickly realize they’re talking about me
“No, this is really the first time he’s ever brought her up. He told me all about her a day ago and that she was coming for Christmas.”
“Shanna is laying into her for answers and to find out what kind of person she is. God I hope she’s not some arrogant brat.”
My eyes widen suddenly as my arms drop to my sides quickly
“God knows Chris has poor taste in women. Should be interesting to meet her. From what he’s told me she’s a bit high maintenance.”
My eyebrows shoot up at that and I huff in annoyance
“I can only hope she isn’t some privileged obnoxious child. Chris didn’t give me much, only that they didn’t want to be apart. It sounds like they’re pretty serious.”
“How close could they be if he kept her hidden from us? She’s got to be the reason he skipped literally everything for thanksgiving but the dinner. He literally rolled in here at 3 and left by 8.”
The pause in conversation leaves me frozen in the entry way as I feel like I just stepped into something I shouldn’t hear
“You think he’s fallen for a girl who will keep him from us for holidays? That’s often what happens when a son marries someone.”
“You think they’re getting married?! He hardly knows the girl. God bless her but Chris could never commit to something like that. You know the cycle, give it a few more months and they’ll have moved on.”
“He said she can be difficult, especially under pressure. Like I said super high maintenance.”
“Probably means controlling.”
Excuse me?
“If this girl is wrong for him I’ll have a conversation with him. He’s my son, he’ll listen to me. She’ll be just another ex girlfriend if we don’t like her—”
I can feel the lump in my throat growing as I reach for the door handle but it opens and I take a step back as Chris steps in
He looks to me confused as I remain hovering by the door like I wanted to bolt, his arms find their way around my sides saying “you alright?”
My shoulders tighten and wind up as my whole body tightens up, I shrug in response as I slip from his grasp
Scott shouts “Ma! Chris and y/n are here!”
Chris huffs in response to his brother
The group of people file towards us as my hands pull at the zipper sides of Chris’ jacket that’s tightly wrapped around my body
Tightening it around me
“Chris!”
He bounds for his mother, and you could tell how much he loves him mom. That’s a strong hug around her. Clearly he missed her
Maybe she was right, I didn’t think I was keeping him from his family
Suddenly I feel super out of place as their whole family hugs and speaks to each other
Slowly I slip into the background of the family as my back presses to the door, everything growing overwhelming
“My sweet boy. I’m so happy you’re here.”
Controlling.
That word wanders around my head as I feel the weight of it
High maintenance
How could she have all these opinions of me before even meeting me?
Scott pulls away from his older sister saying “y/n, meet my sister Carly… y/n?” He looks behind him not finding me
I’m practically melting through the door as Chris suddenly pulls away from the conversation him and his mother are having
“honey?”
The people in front of me, serving as I wall suddenly break into two groups and the whole Evans family turns towards me
Chris looks to me with a widening smile and walks forward, grabbing my hand and saying “Everyone, this is my girlfriend y/n. I’ll introduce you to each person in a minute. Firstly, this is my ma.”
The woman looks to me and I feel the nauseous feeling grow as I stare at her nervously
She takes a step towards me as Chris’ warm hand leaves my back
She smiles and says “I’m Lisa. It’s so great to meet you.”
My grin slips as she pulls me into a hug and I grow frustrated as she says “Chris just adores you.”
I swear there’s sarcasm coming off her words
“Love, mom. I love her.” Chris confirms as his smile falls from his lips and I’m released. I’m basically introduced around and the minute I’m free from introductions I find Scott
He’s with Carly but I grab his wrist tightly and give him the crazy eyes. He excused himself from his sister as I pull him out front
“I have to get out of here.”
“What? What are you talking about?”
My hands pull down my face as I frown and say “Your mother doesn’t know I heard what she and Carly were saying in the kitchen.”
“What we’re they saying in the kitchen?” He leans forward, practically begging for the information
“Am I controlling?”
“What? Why would you…. Oh.” He pauses as he looks inside the glass panels for a second saying “she doesn’t know you. Don’t take what she said to heart. She probably read a bad article about you.”
I shake my head as I sit down on the front steps and he follows shortly after “They lost my suitcase. I have nothing. I’m feeling insecure enough already. And I know Chris is loving every minute of this but I’m just… overwhelmed and annoyed.”
Scott nods as he rubs my shoulder, and I continue saying “He never told his mom or anyone about me. They don’t know me. Would he have ever told them about me? He basically worships your mom. But I’m not important enough to be a topic?”
“I’m sure he has good reason, bee.”
I huff in response and cover my face saying “This is going to be a long week. You have to promise me you won’t leave my side. If Chris isn’t glued to my side you have to be. Please.”
His eyes widen and he says “That’s a big job.”
I narrow my eyes to him saying “Scott.”
He smiles lightly saying “Fine deal.”
“This is going to be a long week.” We both say in sync

Mom's New Boyfriend
Trish fucking hated Allen.
Ever since he started coming around, she felt like an outsider in her own home. It was bad enough that dad had cheated and gotten himself thrown out. She didn't blame her mom for any of that. It was well deserved. But now against all odds, she was actually wishing she'd gone to live with him. Then she'd be going to college in Oregon instead of here in this weird fucking situation.
She'd tried to be nice at first. She really had! He and her mother had invited her out to a nice dinner. He introduced himself and shook her hand. He was polite and she was polite back and her mom seemed genuinely happy. But then when her mom went to the bathroom, she kept seeing him sneaking glances at her. Looking at her chest. Staring at her lips. She tried to cover up a little and saw his lips purse disapprovingly. After that she decided that she was not a fan.
And now he's hear. All. The. Time. She's planning on getting some off-campus housing with her friends this coming term to get the fuck away from them. She's told her mom that he creeps her out, but she just laughed lightly and said she must have been imagining it. The laugh sounded strange, though. She'd never heard her mom laugh like that.
Then a few nights ago, when she came home from her late class, she walked in on the two of them in the living room. She got an eye full. Her mom's tits flopping up and down as she rode him on the couch. Her mom's eyes were open but it's like no one was home. She was staring ahead, moaning and drooling and seemed like she didn't see Trish at all. Then Allen saw her and shouted something. Trish's mom seemed to come back to herself and panicked.
Clothes were snatched up. Bodies moved quickly. Trish ran out of the room and upstairs. She slammed her door shut and locked it. Not long after there was a gentle knock and her mother asking if they could talk. Trish told her to get lost and it seemed like she'd listened for a while. Then an hour later, there was another knock.
"Hey kid," Allen's voice said through the door. "I think I need to explain some things to you. I'm sure if you let me in, I can make everything make sense. I can calm you down if you listen."
Trish made it clear in several ways that if Allen didn't leave the house in the next fifteen minutes she'd be coming out of her room with a weapon. She heard footsteps and a car door. From her window she could see him leaving. Only then did Trish come out of her room.
She found her mother crying on the couch. The same couch that… Trish put it out of her mind, but she did not sit. She doubted she'd ever sit there again. Instead she sat in the chair across the room.
"What the fuck do you see in that man?"
Her mom looked up and for a moment, the tears stopped and the looked somehow far away. "That's the right question," she said breathlessly. "He wants me to show you."
The TV clicked on and Trish was almost knocked backward by the flashing lights and the thunderous sounds. Her senses were overwhelmed. White. Blue. Boom. Green. Thrum. Magenta. Back to white. Crash.
All she could so it sputter and stare until a pattern had emerged. The colors coalesced into concentric rings. The sounds mellowed from disorienting to omnipresent but somehow soothing. Trish forgot that looking away was even an option. The light and sound had been so initially disorienting and all-encompassing that evading it seemed impossible. And even now that it had settled, it's new form was so captivating that escape was undesirable.
She felt her mother's hands pulling off the shirt she'd been wearing. She must have cut it, because Trish never lost eye contact with the screen. Hands massaged her bare breasts, and Trish realized in a detached way how wet her panties had become. She wondered idly if she'd been wet since she'd come home and seen her mommy serving Allen. Probably. Anyone would have gotten turned on seeing those tits bouncing on such a big, hard cock.
The TV flicked off and Trish blinked. She looked over at the couch where her mom was riding Allen again. She hadn't even heard the stud come back in.
"You interrupted us, bitch," he said as he pinched mommy's nipple hard. She gasped and squirted on his cock. "But now you see what she sees."
"Oh yes," Trish said, crawling over to the foot of the couch. "I'm sorry."
He pulled out of Trish's mother and sprayed cum across Trish's face and bare chest. She began to lick it up happily.
"I think we're finally going to be able to be a happy family."

violetsinclair Story of the day I became a dog mom🐾🧡:
Today Lando came to pick me up from work with a suspicious grin of his face. He said something about going out for the day, to spend the afternoon somewhere away from the city. And of course I believed it! He sounded very convincing!
We had lunch on a very nice place next to a river, but I noticed him a little nervous while looking at his watch. We collected everything and went back to bed, thinking we were going back home.
Turns out he had other plans! We went to a land where the owner has a lot of puppies! And then I found this beautiful black little guy and I immediately fell in love with him. And of course, Lando had everything planned and already came with things for the puppy.
Everyone, meet Rhysand Norris (yeah, it's on purpose. And I wasn't the one that chose the name🤭)

violetsinclair God news and bad news!
The good news: I'll be some months working here, in Egypt! I had the pleasure of receiving a call from the museum so I can experience how they work in the ruins and and translate some ancient papyrus.
The bad news: Lando and I will have to be some months apart and I can't attent to his races like I used to do. But this won't stop me for supporting him or loving him every day more.
This is just another chapter of our story, not the end.

Ahh yes, you finally turn thirteen. Your mother thought it was finally time to own your own phone.
“Now y/n, this phone is not a toy obviously, so take good care of it” “-uh huh” you say, not even looking at your mother. You were too excited to listen to your mother now that you’re already setting up your phone. “And you can have social media and I trust you enough not to talk to weirdos on the internet. This is your phone and you deserve privacy so I’m not going to look through your phone. Although, I will have a tracker on your phone. I need to know where you are all times.” Even though your mother doesn’t like that you’re not looking at her, she knows that you’re listening. “It’s not like I sneak out mom” “Yeah but I don’t feel like texting you to see where you are” You both giggle. “Thanks mom, I’ll take care of this phone” you say as you give her the tightest hug.
The next day, you return to your middle school, secretly showing off your phone to your friends since your school has no phone policy.
“Have you gotten Captures yet” Asked your best friend Unasaka. “What’s that?” You asked curiously. “A social media app that you can chat with people and like their pictures” she said, eager to make you an account. The only social media platform you interacted with is YouTube and Roblox but you’ve never made an account to interact with their pictures or chat with them. “I’m not sure if I want to jump on that social media bandwagon, I’ve heard about those weird people on those platforms” you tried move on from the topic but your best friend keeps wanting to convince you. “You can always private your account. You can choose who can chat and like your post. Just look at mine, I only have my friends and family.” Pulling out her phone, she shows her followers. You see your friends and other recognized faces. It’s not a bad idea, but that doesn’t fully convince you. “I’ll think about it girl. If I do make an account, can you write down your username?” Unasaka quickly pulled a pen and paper from her book bag. She quickly wrote it down and handed it to you. You guys spoke a little more about the presents of social media since you’re a bit new to it. After, you guys head separately to your own homes.
You thought about it after dinner, maybe it’s good to keep up with your friends. You can see that they’re out having fun and you can chat with them. The thought of texting your friends was cool to you. You went up to your room and started downloading the app Captures.

Once you made your account, you put your phone down, waiting for your friend Unasaka to follow you back. You can’t wait to share your little life with the world and chat with all your friends. That’s what you think social media is. Posting and chatting but you were unaware the dark side of it. It was already eight-thirty pm, you had to go to bed soon. You do your little night routine, thinking of all the things you can do now that you have a phone.
Little did you know, there’s someone waiting on the other side.

The Best Present
An: Today is Kenny’s birthday so of course I had to write something!
(Kenny Is referred to as Tyson)
Summary: Spending Tyson’s 40th birthday with fem reader and their 1 year old daughter Violet!
Word count: 682
Tyson hated his birthday. Every year was the same, he didn’t want a party but I would convince him and of course he would have a good time. This year however was a special year, this year Tyson would be turning 40 and I knew that terrified him. I tried to plan a big party with all of our friends and family but of course Ty hated the idea. So we would celebrate his big day with just the two of us and our one year old daughter Violet until Wednesday when we would go out to dinner after dynamite with friends to celebrate.
I didn’t quite understand why he didn’t like to celebrate his birthday, I know most people don’t like their birthday but Tyson was different. It was almost like he was embarrassed of it.
I woke up bright and early and started working on a cake for Ty. His only request each year was for me to make him a german chocolate cake and let him sleep in. This would mark the 10th german chocolate cake I would make for his special day and each year it seemed to get more special. Tyson claimed to love my cake, I thought he was just lying at first, since my baking skills can be questionable at times but 10 years of the exact same cake would say otherwise. Unless he is just extremely committed to the lie.
After I put the cake in the oven I decided to make a nice breakfast as I waited for Tyson to wake up. As if on cue, he came downstairs right as I finished setting the table. You could tell that he was exhausted but nonetheless he still looked just as handsome.
“Good morning birthday boy!” I said in a gentle tone, embracing him in a hug
“Good morning” He replied half asleep. “Did you do this for me?” Tyson asked, looking towards the feast laid out on the table.
“Of course, anything for you my love” I said as I placed a kiss on his cheek. I turned to grab a fresh cup of coffee to give Tyson but it was almost like he vanished into thin air. Not thinking too much about it, I went back to preparing things in the kitchen until I heard noise coming from the baby monitor. I quickly realized that it was Tyson, who seemed to be talking with Violet.
“Hi, my angel. I hope you had an amazing sleep” Everynow and then I would catch Ty talking with Violet and it always made me smile. Just then I heard Violet say “Birthday”, it wasn’t perfect but she definitely said it. I was internally high fiving myself, I had spent weeks trying to teach her the word for Tyson’s big day.
“Yeah, it is my birthday. You are so smart Violet” I could hear his voice crack a bit as he spoke.
“I must say you are the best present. I wish I had you years ago, I don’t know what I would have done without you Violet” I could hear his voice start to tremble as he spoke and I could feel my throat start to get dry.
“Come on Violet, let’s go see Mom before she starts to wonder where we are” I could hear them start to make their way back to the kitchen so I ran back to the table, pretending that I didn’t hear the whole conversation.
“There you are, good morning Violet!” I said as I approached the pair, giving them both a hug and kiss. “Who’s ready for some breakfast?” I asked as I took Violet from Tyson, putting her in her high chair.
“Y/n?”
“Yeah?”
“Thank you” Tyson said, as he held me in a tight embrace
“For what?” I asked, playing dumb
“For everything, I really don’t deserve any of this”
“Yes you do, stop saying that alright. I love you so much, okay. Like a ridiculously amount alright. And I will continue to love you for the rest of my life Tyson!”
“Y/n?”
“Yeah?”
“I think I want to have another baby with you”
“What?”

The rain had lingered overnight, and when Natalie crawled out of bed she shivered. A wintry chill had crept into the house. She dressed warmly, adding an extra layer, before venturing downstairs. Miraculously she had beat her father down. The kitchen felt cold and empty without him and, hugging herself, she adjusted the thermostat before starting the coffee.
Glancing up from the filling carafe when she heard the third step creak, she frowned. He was moving slowly this morning.
Mark stepped into the kitchen, eyes meeting hers almost guiltily.
"Morning."
"Morning," she replied, fiddling with the handle of his mug. "Sit, I'll get your coffee."
He looked about to argue but nodded, and she forced herself to watch him limp across to the table. When he sat down with a groan she swallowed hard, guilt gnawing at her gut.
She should have been here for him. Should have stepped in and kept him from letting it get this bad. Should have been the daughter he deserved—
"Here you go," she whispered, setting his coffee down next to his tablet. Kissing his forehead, she impulsively reached to smooth a stray curl on his forehead. "I'll get breakfast."
Mark's face softened, and she didn't miss the way he twisted the gold band on his left ring finger before reaching for his coffee. "Thanks, sugar."
He hadn't called her sugar in years.
And she'd never kissed his forehead before. It was something she'd watched her mother do countless times – coffee and a forehead kiss. At home or at the bakery, her mother had always performed that small ritual.
I wish you were here to do it now, Mom, she thought.
Managing a smile, she went through the motions of fixing her own coffee, eyes falling on the leftover bread from the night before. Thinking of the dinner, and their guest, she sipped her coffee and waited for the caffeine to kick in. "How's the knee?"
"Hurts like hell."
Frowning, she turned from the fridge, carton of eggs in hand. "Did you take something for it?"
"If I do, I won't be able to go to the shop," he said. Shifting, he stretched his left leg out and sighed. "It's because it's cold, sweetie. I'll be fine."
She wanted to argue with him, to tell him that he needed to take it easy before he damaged his worse than it already was. She wanted to tell him that the painkillers the doctors had prescribed weren't habit-forming, because she knew that was one of the reasons he didn't take them very often, and that they were there to help him. She wanted to rant and rave that he should have had his knee taken care of years ago when it had started to bother him instead of falling into the almost stereotypical tough-guy façade. She really wanted to whack him over the head with his Nonna's rolling pin but she feared the damage his thick head would cause the prized family heirloom.
But she didn't. Because she had no right to. If she cared so much, she would have been there for him. It would only end in tears for her and stubborn anger in him and nothing would be resolved. So, she merely sighed and tried to come up with a plan of action that would keep him off his feet all day at the shop.
She lit on the perfect idea as she placed his plate of scrambled eggs, toast, and bacon in front of him. Getting her own plate, she sat across from him and watched as he buttered his toast. She had to time it just right. Otherwise, he would talk over her or ignore what she said.
"That Oscar's is alright," he said, reaching for the jam.
"Oscar?" she asked, spreading a little butter on her toast.
"Yeah. His friend's alright, too. Max? Looking forward to getting to know him and his wife when they're here permanently." He nodded, pushing the jam towards her, then picked up his fork.
"Do you know what business he's looking to buy?" She could have sworn the movement of his fork slowed. He had hesitated. Why was he hesitating?
" I hope Oscar sticks around. Nice kid," he said as though he hadn't heard her.
Natalie smiled. Anyone younger than forty was a kid, according to her father. "He does seem nice."
"Seem?" Mark shook his head. "He is. Trust me. He'd give the shirt off his back to help someone."
"Dad, don't."
"What?"
"You're selling him awful hard."
"I like him, why shouldn't I?"
"Stop selling him to me."
He looked ready to say something, then sighed and picked up his coffee. "He's a lot better than Pierre."
Natalie felt herself deflate. And though she had no reason to, she felt the need to defend her ex-fiancé. "Pierre's not that bad."
"He's an absolute cunt," he said bluntly, stabbing his eggs with his fork.
Natalie choked on her bacon. Coughing, she covered her mouth in shock, eyes wide. "Dad!" she gasped, truly shocked. He never said 'cunt'.
"I never liked him."
"I know," she said, frowning down at her plate. She was no longer hungry but forced herself to eat a few bites. Her bare finger mocked her as she reached for her coffee. "You made that clear."
"When you called to tell me it was over, I was happy. One of the greatest decisions you ever made was getting rid of him."
What little bit she had eaten was now a heavy ball in her gut. Clearing her throat, she forced down some bacon and her piece of toast, washing it down with the rest of her coffee. "I had an idea," she said, needing to change the subject. "About the bakery."
"Oh?"
"You need to get more rest. Let me finish," she requested when she heard him suck in a breath to argue. "You're only going to hurt your knee more if you insist on staying at the shop for nearly twelve hours a day. I know you hate being reminded of it, but you aren't twenty-five anymore. And as you kept pointing out yesterday at dinner, I am not a morning person."
His irritation eased and he gave a little chuckle. "You were yawning over your beef stew."
Natalie sighed. If she hadn't been so tired, she would have been embarrassed by her father's good-natured teasing. And Oscar, who she had apologized to over and over when he insisted on helping her with the dishes, had said he understood. He had gotten in a little bit of teasing as well, which had only made her laugh. The evening had been filled with warmth and laughter and when he had left the warmth had stayed.
"What's your idea, sugar?"
"I was thinking we could split the duties. You're Mr. Up Before the Chickens, and I'm the night owl. You do the morning stuff, and I come in at lunchtime and take over. I'll do the prep work for morning, and you can come home and relax."
"You think you're ready for that?"
"Probably not," she admitted with a sigh. "But you can sit in the kitchen and order me around for a day or two until I get the hang of it. And you can type up the recipes for me to have a copy to refer to."
"You said you'd never work in the bakery," he reminded her. His tone was careful.
"I said a lot of things over the years." She had never wanted to work in the bakery. The big dreamer, she had envisioned a different future for herself, and the old used car her father had bought her to drive to college hadn't gotten her out of town fast enough. A lump formed in her throat as she remembered that day. When she'd accused her father of caring more about the bakery than he'd cared about her. Not wanting to remember all the horrible things she had said that day, things she knew she still needed to apologize for, she forged ahead. "Can we at least give it a try? Someone has to take over when you have your surgery."
He cleared his throat and ducked his head. "I suppose."
"Unless you've got Franco or Ollie in mind."
"Nope." When he lifted his head, he was smiling. "We'll give it a shot."
"I'll do my best," she promised him.
His smile widened, and finally reached his eyes. "I know you will, sweetie."
Oscar trailed along behind Max, barely noticing all the work he'd completed, instead seeing only the things that still needed doing. The house still smelled of paint and sawdust, and he winced when he saw the unfinished master bathroom.
Max, though, didn't seem to care. "You're almost finished," he said with a smile.
Oscar nodded. "Getting there."
His friend leaned in the bathroom doorway, nodding to himself. "I know Eve keeps saying she wants to move in before the new year, but you know she's just teasing, yeah?"
Oscar chuckled, squatting to check the pipe glue under the sink. It seemed to be fully set, but he left it, not wanting to risk water everywhere. "I know. I've learned not to take her seriously about that unless she starts crying."
Max exhaled harshly. "Better take her serious, because she was crying last night."
Oscar rose, brow furrowed. "About the house? Max, I promise, it won't be much—"
"The house, Christmas, packing up, leaving her job. Everything." Max shook his head, shrugging.
"Everything?" He looked at Max carefully. "That's… Not like her. Unless she's…"
"Oh no." Max began shaking his head. "No, no, no. We're done. Two kids are enough."
"Mhm. Other than crying last night, how is she this week?"
"She's fine. A little tired, but she has been shopping and going through things to donate—" Max cut off with a roll of his eyes. "Don't you think I'd know if she was pregnant?"
Oscar held up his hands. "You didn't the last two times."
Max scoffed and turned to walk down the hallway. "You're being ridiculous. She's not pregnant. She would tell me."
"Maybe she's waiting for Christmas. Cheaper than buying you a gift," Oscar teased.
Max shook his head. "She's not pregnant."
"Mhm. Sure." Oscar glanced at his watch. "If you're sure."
"I know she's not. She's my wife, I'd know," Max insisted, jogging down the stairs and going to the kitchen. Opening the fridge, he grabbed an energy drink. Then, cracking it open, he leaned against the counter for three minutes.
Oscar knew exactly how much time passed because he kept track while flicking through the junk mail piled on the island counter. When Max sighed, he watched him pull out his phone and swipe at the screen. His brow furrowed, his lips pursed, as he stared at the screen. He glanced at his watch and saw another minute had passed. He kept his face impassive, and when he heard Max mutter under his breath he set the junk mail down and waited.
"Fuck," Max muttered. He set his drink down and ticked off his fingers. Shook his head and counted on his fingers again. Then, shoulders slumping, he dragged his hand over his face. "Oh god."
"Congratulations?" Oscar couldn't help the smile.
"Thanks." His tone was flat. Dragging his hand over his face again, he stared at his phone for another moment before lowering it with a groan. "How did this happen?"
Grinning, Oscar tossed the junk mail into the trash. "Well, when a man and a woman love each other—"
"Shut up. Why hasn't she said anything?"
"C'mon, relax. She'll tell you when she's ready."
"I know, I know."
"Don't come out and ask her," Oscar warned.
"God, I hope she tells me soon." Max rubbed his face with both hands. "I'm gonna be a nervous wreck until she does."
"You're always a nervous wreck. Come on," he said, clapping him on the shoulder. "Let's go to the bakery."
"Yeah." Max looked at his phone, and Oscar saw his finger move to the phone icon.
"Don't you dare."
With a sigh, Max shoved his phone into his pocket. "I'm not gonna be able to think about anything else."
"Mark mentioned last night that he's baking fruitcake today."
Max's expression brightened. "Fruitcake?"
"Knew that would snap you out of it," he laughed, heading out the front door. Stopping short when he saw something cowering at the bottom of the steps, he frowned. "Shh."
"What?" Max asked from behind him, pushing so he could slip by. "What is it?"
"That dog again." Oscar slowly moved to the top of the steps and squatted down. Keeping his voice gentle, he softly called to the scrawny dog that had squeezed behind the boxwood next to the steps. "Hey, buddy…"
"I thought you called the dog catcher."
"I don't want him to end up in the shelter," Oscar said, not glancing away from the pair of brown eyes that eyed him warily from behind the bush. "Hey, go inside and get that chicken out of the fridge."
With a sigh, Max went inside. He returned a few moments later, the chicken in a plate. "What are you gonna do with it if you catch it?"
"Surely someone would take him in." His first thought was Mark, but he pushed that aside. He doubted the man would want to take care of a dog, especially since he would soon be having surgery. Taking the plate, he went down the steps, squatting in front of the bush. "It's okay, boy…"
The dog sniffed at the air and tentatively scooted forward, shivering. "It's okay, c'mon…"
The dog looked scrawnier up close, its wiry fur twitching. Encouraged when it leaned forward and snuffled the meat from his hand, he reached for more.
He hadn't noticed that Max had moved to squat down next to him. Pulling his hand closer to himself, he smiled when the dog took a tentative step forward. "Good boy," he murmured, offering more meat. "C'mon…"
"It's cute." Max had his phone out and was taking pictures.
"And you wanted me to call animal control," Oscar muttered, setting the plate on the ground at his feet. The dog tipped its head, ears twitching, and he remained still. His smile widened when the dog came out from behind the bush and slowly approached. "Hey…"
Ten minutes later he was sitting on the ground. The plate was empty, licked clean by the dog. It stank, but he wasn't about to push it out of his lap. Not when it had practically smiled at him after finishing the meat and then given him exuberant licks. Smoothing his hand over the head, he sighed. "What am I gonna do with you, huh?"
"I'd adopt him, but Jimmy and Sassy hate dogs," Max said, speaking of his two spoiled cats.
The dog was still a little timid, but Oscar felt the small body relax as he scratched behind its ears.
"A bath would probably be a good idea," Max said.
It took longer than he'd expected, the dog being a little nervous and Max giving him unhelpful tips from the doorway. There had been a mad dash to catch the dog before it could run, dripping wet, through the house. Soothing words, a gentle tone, and some of the beef from the container of beef stew Natalie had sent home with him the night before, and the dog calmed down long enough for him to finish.
"Now what?" Max asked when he carried the dog, wrapped in a dry towel, out of the bathroom.
"You're technically my landlord right now. Is it okay if I keep him until I can get him a home?"
"Sure. You sure you can find him a home?" Max reached over to scratch the dog's head.
"If I can't I'll find a rescue that'll take him in." Nick sighed when the dog leaned his head against his chest and relaxed completely. "It's been so long since I had a dog I can't remember what to do."
"Food, water, something soft to sleep on, and a place to piss." Max shrugged. "He should probably see a vet."
"I'll ask Mark if there's a good place nearby."
"Do you know, Eve calls him the Yellow Pages? No matter what we're looking for around here, Mark knows who to call."
Oscar nodded. "Guess I need to get him some food and a bed." Sighing, he set the dog next to the fireplace to dry off. "A collar and a leash too…"
"So you are keeping him. I knew it!"
"Temporarily," Oscar insisted. "I'm gonna go change."
When he returned downstairs, Max was sitting on the couch, the dog curled up in his lap.
"I texted Eve a picture and she said that if it pisses on the floor, she's cutting off my dick," Max announced with a scowl.
"Not mine?"
"It'll be my fault because I said you can keep him here."
"Her."
"It's Eve's fault?" Max's brow furrowed. "How—"
"The dog. It's a girl."
"Oh. "
"Let's go," Oscar groaned, lifting the sleepy dog into his arms.
"I know you," Max said after they'd climbed into the truck. The dog, no longer sleepy, climbed onto Max's lap, her nose pressed to the window, tail wagging excitedly. Max winced and pushed a paw away from his crotch. "You're gonna bond with her, you're gonna name her, you're gonna spoil her, and you're not gonna look for a home for her."
"I can't do any of that. I don't have a home myself, remember? Just that apartment up in Fairview." He frowned as he started the engine. They didn't allow pets.
"I thought you were looking for a place here?"
"There's only houses. No apartments."
"You can buy a house."
"I hate buying houses," he sighed.
"You've only bought one. And…" Max cleared his throat after his word trailed into nothingness. "You should look around here. The kids would love having you close. Not to mention Eve. And I like having you nearby, too."
"Stop, you're gonna make me cry." Smiling, Oscar put the truck in gear and backed out of the driveway.
"There's old man Wright's place on the edge of town. It's kind of small, but plenty of land, if you ever decided to expand."
"I've thought about it." He'd even gone out and taken a look at the little house. It was on the small side, with two bedrooms and just one bathroom, but he had liked the sense of comfort he'd felt when Mr. Wright had given him a quick tour. He'd liked that as he looked around he had gotten ideas for improvements.
"Can I ask a nosy question?"
"Better than anyone I know."
"Ass," Max snorted. "You're not hoping you and Lauren get back together, are you?"
Oscar breathed out a chuckle. "No. That's over."
"You sure? You went to see her a couple weeks ago."
"We're still friends."
"It's just weird. Who goes to lunch with their ex girlfriend?"
"She's engaged." Oscar smiled as he remembered Lauren's excitement. "They haven't announced it yet, but she wanted me to know."
"To that Charles guy?"
"Yeah. I'm happy for her. I'm happy for him."
"It sounds like you mean that," Max said softly.
Oscar nodded while parking at the curb across the street from the bakery. "I do. I want her to be happy."
"So you're not bitter." Max eased the dog off his lap and brushed his hands over his thighs.
"Look, just because you still use your ex's picture as a dartboard doesn't mean everyone has to be cynical." Hand on the dog, he slid out, turning to talk softly and reassure the shivering animal. "I'll be back in a few minutes, okay? Please don't destroy my truck."
"You sure she'll be okay?"
"You really are a nervous wreck," Oscar laughed after closing the door. "Look, she's already curling up."
"Yeah, she's… That's my coat!"
"It's fine." Oscar tugged on his friend's arm. "Come on."
He turned to go into the general store, stopping short when the door opened and Natalie came out, holding a brown paper bag. She looked surprised to see him, too, and he couldn't hold back the smile when her lips curved.
"Hey," he greeted, letting go of Max's sleeve.
"Hi." Her smile widened and she glanced to his brother. "Hello."
"You remember Max."
"Of course. How are Eve and the kids?" she asked. "Grace and Lucas, right?"
"Yeah. They're great."
Oscar opened his mouth to speak, but the words disintegrated in his brain when she turned her smile on him. He knew he had to say something, though, and struggled to come up with a statement that wouldn't make him sound like an absolute moron.
Next to him, Max cleared his throat.
In front of him, Natalie continued to smile.
Oscar pushed his hands into the pockets of his jeans, thinking that maybe silence was a good thing.
"We're just going to get some things for Oscar's baby," Max said suddenly.
Natalie's eyes widened. "Baby?"
"Yeah. She's a real sweetheart. You should meet her."
"You have a baby?"
Oscar faltered. "Actually, she—"
"She's in the truck," Max said.
"You left a baby in the truck?" Natalie's smile turned to a frown. "Are you insane?"
"What? No—" Oscar grunted when the paper bag was shoved into his chest. Catching it before it could slip to the ground, he turned as she pushed by him to get to the truck. "Wait, Natalie—"
"I can't believe you'd leave a defenseless baby in a truck. I thought you had a little bit of intelligence, but apparently you—" Natalie's words halted when she reached the truck and peered into the window. "Oh."
"Max is a jackass," he said, shoving the bag at Max.
"Oh," she cooed when the dog's head appeared in the window. "She's adorable. I didn't know you had a dog."
"I didn't. I don't. I mean… She was a stray. I've seen her around the yard a few times in the past week but today I finally put my hands on her." He was still surprised that the dog had switched from shy and fearful to loving and accepting.
"Are you keeping her?" Natalie asked, looking up at him.
"I…" His breath pulled from his chest in a sigh when the weak midday sunlight caught her eyes. Slowly, he turned his head to look through the window at the dog, who was pressing her wet nose against the window. "Yeah, I think I will."
Behind him, Max coughed.
"Have you named her yet?"
"No."
"She's adorable. The reddish spot on her face reminds me of a penny," Natalie murmured. "One that's been in circulation for a while so it's a little dull but still has bits of shine, you know?"
"I know. I might call her that."
"Calling her Dull would be almost as bad as leaving a baby locked in the truck—"
"I mean Penny," he said with a grin.
Max coughed again.
"Oh. Right. I've got to get to work." She turned and took the bag from Max, who was staring at them as though they were both insane. "Good to see you, Max."
"You, too."
"And I'll see you later, Oscar?"
He liked that she ended it with a little question in her voice. It made him feel as though she wanted to see him later. He wondered if she would be interested in going to dinner. Or something. He wanted to learn more about her. "Of course you will."
"Great." Her smile rivaled the sunshine. She touched the window, smiling at the dog. "Go get the stuff for your baby."
"Wow," Max breathed as Natalie headed across the street.
Oscar sighed. "What?"
"You know how in old movies when a couple kisses or professes their love that little orchestral bit plays?" Max hummed, slightly off-key. "That?"
"Yeah, why?"
"I swear I just heard it play while you two were staring at each other."
"You do this every day?" Natalie asked, fascinated as she watched her father lift the plastic-wrapped butter and flip it onto the sheet of dough.
"Yep. It's great for venting your anger." Mark set the parchment aside and pointed at the dough. "Now fold it over like an envelope and roll it out."
"No wonder your arms and shoulders are pure muscle," she muttered after rolling the dough out to its original size. "Now I wrap it and put it in the fridge?"
"For an hour, then you do it again. I do it at least five times."
"Five times?" she asked, horrified. Her shoulders were going to be sore. "Why so many?"
"It makes more layers. Go ahead and do the rest," he said, taking the wrapped dough from her hands.
There were four more batches of dough on the counter. All had been chilled, all were rolled out, waiting for their slab of butter. She could do this, she thought, reaching for the plastic wrap and the sticks of butter. She had to do this, even if it did mean sore muscles and aching arms. Whatever pain she might possibly have to endure was nothing compared to the pain her father was in every day. Layering sticks of butter between sheets of wrap, she picked up the rolling pin and began pounding.
"You do that really well," a voice said when she finished.
She dropped the rolling pin, jerking her head up in surprise. "Oscar," she blurted while he bent to pick up the rolling pin before it could roll under the counter. Taking it from him, she noticed Max and her father chatting next to the coffeepot. "What are you doing here?"
"Oh, Max wanted to talk to Mark." He looked to the flattened butter. "What are you making?"
"I'm laminating the dough for the croissants. They have to sit overnight." She told him of her plan to split days with her father. It was easy to tell him, she thought, surprised that he seemed genuinely interested. "Afternoons aren't as busy customer-wise and there is a lot of prep work for morning."
"It's really nice that you're willing to help out."
"I have to. He might be a gigantic pain in my butt, but he's my dad." She smiled. "And I guess I love him a little, too."
"Yeah, just a little." He grinned.
"Did you get everything you need for your dog?"
"I think so. I'm taking her to the vet in a couple days."
"Have them scan her. She could be a lost pet." She saw his smile flicker and understood he would be a little sad to have to give the dog up, even though he'd only just started getting to know her. But she sensed that he would be overjoyed to return her to her family. Glancing over at her father at Max, she was surprised to see the two men heading towards the office, talking intently.
"Yeah, the brown paper has to stay. It's iconic at this point, isn't it? And I just love little brown paper packages tied up with strings," Max was saying as they stepped into the office.
She was further surprised when the office door closed. She hadn't thought the door could close. Her father had it open always, even when he was working on the accounting for tax season. Strange, she thought, dropping the rolling pin into the sink and reaching for a clean one. She returned to the counter and began rolling out the butter until it was even. "Are you staying in town after your brother moves into the house?"
"I'm considering it."
"Do you have—" Glancing up when the swinging door squeaked open, she turned her attention back to the butter as Ollie handed a wrapped and tied bundle to Oscar. Recognizing the shape and size as donuts, she watched Oscar's fingers toy with the string.
"Do you ever get a song stuck in your head because you see something?" she asked suddenly, their discussion of his possibly staying in town forgotten.
"Sometimes."
"Good, I'm not weird."
He slipped the bundle into the pocket of his hoodie. "Well…" He chuckled. "Weird in a good way, maybe."
"Oh." She felt her cheeks heat and ducked her head, focusing on placing the butter on the dough and folding it neatly.
"You still need to dance in the rain."
"Maybe one day," she said. Thinking of the phone call that had kept her from dancing with him, she wondered if she were grateful for the interruption or upset. She had wanted to dance in the rain with him. But at the same time, she hadn't wanted to. Because—
"I owe you dinner," he said softly, bursting the bubble of her thoughts.
"You don't."
"I do."
"You really don't. Me and Dad don't know how to cook a small amount." Hearing the rustle of the paper in his pocket, she tucked the plastic wrap around the dough and carried it to the fridge. "In fact, you can come anytime. I know Dad liked having someone to talk to."
"Oh," he murmured.
She felt a shift in the atmosphere, as though the air conditioning had just turned on. Turning to face him, she caught his brief frown before it disappeared. "I didn't mean—"
"I understand, Natalie."
"I'm not ready for… Dinner. Or dancing in the rain. Or really, anything." She approached the counter. "My life is upside down right now."
"It's okay. I really do understand." He glanced to the closed office door. "I should go. I've got to get Penny back to the house and do some work outside before it gets dark."
"Penny?" Natalie smiled.
"It fits her." He shrugged, as though a little embarrassed. "Pennies show up, she showed up…"
"I hope she'll be a lucky penny."
"Me too." His smile was almost sad. "I could use a little luck."
"You and me both," she whispered.
"I'll see you around," he said. "Tell Max I said he can walk."
"You're such a loving friend." Natalie rolled her eyes and began rolling out the next bit of butter. "I'll pass along the message."
He drummed his fingers on the edge of the counter, then turned and headed out, humming under his breath.
It wasn't until the door closed behind him that she realized it was a Christmas song.
