Genius (7) - Can You Keep a Secret
Cairo Sweet x female (G!P) Reader
Summary: It was such a cliché, a reunion she didn’t expect to ever happen, let alone six years after she last saw you. It was supposed to mean nothing, a bit of nostalgia, maybe a brief catching up while waiting for class, it was supposed to be a small wave of nostalgia, not a tsunami that disrupted her entire life. You were her opposite, and as hard as she tried she couldn’t resist your pull.

-And no one has to know I'm your getaway, and a little bit more than you can take-
Cairo dropped by Miller’s classroom as he was getting ready to leave, she wanted to discuss the assignment, since the writer she chose needed his approval. “Hello,” she said and took her usual seat. Absentmindedly, she left her phone on the table, not wanting to miss a text or a call from you if you were already home.
If you already got the letter.
“I was thinking about my assignment,” she opened, not inquiring about how he seemed to be going somewhere.
He smiled at her as he picked up the things he previously left on her table and almost unassumingly he went and placed his hand over her own. “Tell me about it,” he encouraged, squeezing lightly, his thumb slipping under her palm.
“Of course, just a moment,” she pulled her hand back, pretending to look for some notes or whatever in her bag. She didn’t have any, but she now knew she took it too far with him, she created certain expectations and now one way or another he was reacting to them. Which was why she had Winnie there as well, and now that felt like the right decision. “Looks like I forgot my notes, it’s fine though, I was thinking,”
Her favorite author. It was still Henry Miller, that much she knew, but given how things between her and this Miller were turning out maybe that wasn’t the best idea. Her heart told her to go with Verne, but she didn’t want anyone to know how much that writer meant to both of you. That was your secret, your book, your childhood memories, and she didn’t want them tainted or graded.
“Henry Miller,” she said, consequences be damned.
~X~
She couldn’t believe she had misplaced her phone somewhere, she had it in the classroom when she went to talk to Miller, and then just, gone. She didn’t even notice she didn’t take it with her, seeing as she was happy her idea got approved. But she was annoyed now that she no longer had her phone. She had no idea if you would come.
Please come here.
She stripped down, her body bare as she glanced at the mirror. Would you like seeing her like this? Naked, aroused, just for you, craving for your touch, your lips all over her. What would you do to her? She’s read erotic books, she rarely imagined herself as the participant, but now her thoughts were filled with those scenarios, you and her reenacting them. What sounds would you make?
She picked out a dress, a long, black dress, reaching nearly to her feet and hugging her figure perfectly, showing off her hips, drawing attention to her breasts, and her bare shoulders covered only by the thin straps. She wasn’t sure if you’d come, but she wanted to be ready, she wanted to dress up just for you, and she wanted you to tear the dress off her.
“Please come here,” she sighed, tempted to just call you, to be absolutely certain you would come and take her.
You wanted that, right?
You wanted her, right?
Please come here.
And then her landline began ringing.
~X~
You didn’t go back home right away, you had to go over to the closest town to grab strings for your acoustic guitar, since one of the strings broke last night, which was annoying, but nothing you couldn’t easily fix. As you were approaching your house you noticed the sky was getting cloudy and you were thankful you managed to come back home before it started raining.
As you parked in front of your gate to open it you noticed a letter. “Probably for mom and dad,” you guessed and grabbed it without looking at who sent it. You parked your motorcycle in the garage and went inside, dropping the letter and the spare string on the sofa. You were going with out with Cairo tomorrow and you still weren’t sure where to take her, or if she was willing to go out for a longer ride, maybe sleep somewhere else and use the entire weekend. Either way, you would figure it out in the morning.
You finished freshening up a bit and changing your clothes to something more comfortable and only then did you sit down on the sofa to check the letter you got. Right there, sticking out like a sore thumb, was Cairo’s address. The mailman must have dropped it off here instead because he didn’t feel like going all the way to Cairo’s house.
You called her, but she didn’t answer, and you figured, what the hell, the worst case scenario you could put the letter in her mailbox.
The best case scenario, you had an excuse to go and see her now.
~X~
This wasn’t what she wanted. This wasn’t how things were supposed to end up. How did her phone end up in Miller’s bag? At the start of the week she would have been elated, thinking he was what she wanted, thinking he saw her, that he could madly love her. At the start of the week she would have thought this would be the moment, she would let him take her, claim her like the books she read described, that he would be exactly what Winnie described weeks ago.
But that was at the start of the week. Now things were different and she didn’t fail to realize she, barefoot and in the dress she chose, looked like she got dressed up just for him when she simply didn’t want to risk changing and then letting the dress go to waste if you came right now. That was a mistake, she saw him. Standing there, soaked by the rain, standing on her pavement, and looking at her with unconcealed desire. His eyes consumed her, she knew he would remember this, with the way his memory worked he’d recall every curve of her dress, every detail he took notice off.
“Hello,” she spoke, confidently. He wouldn’t cross the line, he had his job to worry about. She would not get burnt by fire.
“Hi,” he replied, breathing deeply as he looked at her. “Come here,” he told her, and the reason to go over to him was obvious, her phone in his hand. She wondered if you called her or sent her a message.
She was about to go over to him, to take her phone and be done with this so he could go back to his wife, but then something drew his attention away from her, stilled his breathing and for a moment she heard nothing but drops of rain falling and breaking apart on the ground, And then she heard it, the roar of a motorcycle engine filled her ears and she felt her heart soaring, her body burning up despite the cold air surrounding her. That was the sound, that was what she wanted to hear. You came for her. You were coming.
She wasn’t sure how to explain his car parked in front of her gate. Would she need to explain of would you understand it without a single word spoken between you? Either way you parked nect to her fence and turned the engine off. Even from the distance Cairo could see the raindrops falling from your helmet and biker jacket. You walked through that gate like you used to so many times and Cairo felt her palms sweating, she wanted to step into the rain, or to make you walk faster, just so this distance would end. She wanted to hold you and be held by you, she wanted your lips on hers and all over her body. Her breathing grew just a bit faster as she watched you.
“Hey,” your lips were hidden by the helmet and she struggled to see your eyes behind the visor, but she could see the hints of softness in them. “Professor, good afternoon,” you nodded to Miller, lifting your visor up and meeting his startled gaze with a questioning look in your eyes. You looked him up and down, raising an eyebrow and then fishing into your jacket for a small umbrella, opened it and shielded the man from the rain. “You’ll catch a cold, you need to be more careful at your age,” you said it so casually, so easily that Cairo nearly lost her composure. Despite the gesture, despite the words you spoke, the tone made it clear what you meant.
And Cairo wanted to read your mind, just to see what you were actually thinking, but she couldn’t, and she certainly hoped it was along the lines of: ‘Get the fuck away from what’s mine.’ If nothing else she definitely imagine you thought that, that you were just as mad and possessive over her as she was feeling over you, because damn, she hated the very idea of anyone being intimate with you with burning passion.
“R-Right, well, uh, Cairo, I’ve given you-“ Miller stammered, red in the face and looking anywhere but at you or Cairo, he then realized he was still holding her phone. “I’m giving you back your phone!” he urgently offered her the phone she forgot. “And I’m going, nowhere, uh, elsewhere, anywhere really,” he nearly tripped as he took a few steps back. “I’ll see you two in class on Monday!” he hid inside his car, fumbling with his keys and leaving in haste as you closed the umbrella.
You sighed “Damn old fuck,” you cursed as Miller drove off and once again took something from your jacket, a letter this time, and Cairo smiled, it did bring you to her. “The mailman left this at my parent’s place. I think he doesn’t like coming all the way over here,” you joked, handing her the letter.
She nodded, smiling slightly as you came closer so she wouldn’t have to step into the rain, and her smile only widened when her fingers brushed against your gloved hand. This wasn’t just longing, she was yearning for you, craving to feel more, to touch and be touched. You were right there, your hands were touching, and your eyes widened for a moment as well, proving to her you felt something too.
“I’ll leave you to whatever you dressed up for. You look, never mind, I should go,” you turned, thinking she dressed up for someone or something else, but she couldn’t let you leave now. You took a grand total of four steps by the time she moved. She stepped into the rain and pulled you back, her phone and the letter saved from colliding with the ground only by your quick reflexes. But your reflexes couldn’t save your helmet or the umbrella from hitting the ground. “Hey! Watch the hel-“ your breath hitched, eyes meeting her own as she raised her head, her lips so close to your own she could feel the incoming burning sensation of your lips against hers. “Cairo,” you sighed, helmet forgotten somewhere on the grass near you two as you leaned down, your forehead pressing against her own.
“How do I look?” she asked, her fingers crawling up from the bottom of your jacket to the high collar, the raindrops from the sky, from your jacket, soaking her skin and the soft dress she was wearing. And she shivered, not due to the rain, not even due to the way you were looking at her, but due to the way you just pulled her closer, pressing her body so possessively to your own, the wetness seeping through her dress. This wasn’t enough, she wanted, no needed more. She needed you to get rid of the damn clothes she was wearing while she removed your own.
“Like the most tantalizing poem ever created and then given flesh,” you were out of breath, your lips ghosting over her own in the most exquisite, yet excruciatingly painful way Cairo ever felt.
“Satisfy those desires then,” she was just as out of breath as you were and it felt like the puzzle pieces fell into place, her longing, her yearning, the desires, it all went back to you. You were the one, you were her madman’s love. All the yearning, all her passion, it all exploded within her as your lips pressed against hers. As the heat of your tongue and the cold of the rain that began pouring broke her down and put her back together. Your hands roaming her body, slipping through her hair, tugging her closer, remained the only reason she wasn’t falling apart, why she still maintained her shape as you hastily threw your gloves of so your bare fingertips could touch any part of her exposed skin in your reach.
You gasped for air, breaking the kiss and leaning down while lightly tugging at her hair, and she complied, unable to resist giving in to your wishes as she exposed her neck to you. “You’re a need I can never satisfy,” you left burning hot kisses against her soaked skin, not caring about the downpour that was soaking both of you. “You’re a dream I can’t wake up from,” she felt the unfamiliar throbbing as you moved lower, to her exposed shoulder. “The only melody that can fill my silence,” Cairo closed her eyes, soft gasps escaping past her lips as she pushed your jacket down, letting the rain hit your shirt, soaking it in almost an instant, but neither of you cared. Lost in yearning and unrestrained desire, and she brought your head back up, kissing you as deeply as she could, committing the taste of you, the imperfect, lustful and loving way your tongue moved against her own once again. The string of saliva still connected her lips to yours when you separated. “You’re the desire that inspires me.”
And she captured your lips once again, not satisfied with just this. “Then be inspired, my madness. Take me in all the ways you desire,” she whispered right into your ear, sensually, seductively, for you weren’t caught in her web, you were spinning the web with her. And she was all yours, more than you knew, more than you could imagine, but she was, indeed, all yours. And she said it. “I’m yours, every part of me, in every way you want me. Love me, Y/N,” she sighed, opening her mouth in a soundless cry as you sucked on her neck, marking her as your own.
~X~
You woke up to the sound of soft breathing close to your ear and you moved just a bit, just so you could hug her. Cairo hummed, muttering something you couldn’t quite understand, well, other than the word ‘mine’ that one you clearly heard. That got you to grin as you opened your eyes and saw her snuggling up against you, she was sleeping with her head on top of you, just above your chest in fact and she had an arm and leg draped over your body.
The two of you fell asleep like that last night. Naked. Satisfied. With your clothes thrown all over her room and the letter she wrote to you lying somewhere either on the bed itself or near it. Damn, the letter would remain burnt into your memory for the rest of your life. She went into detail on what she wanted, how she wanted you to take her, excluding one detail she wasn’t aware of, You took a deep breath, trying to calm down as the words she said and the tone she used came to your mind.
“What’s on your mind?” she suddenly asked and you looked down to see her eyes still closed but the tone of her voice and the way she tightened her grip on your waist told you she was definitely awake now.
“Hmm, you’ll have to kiss the answer out of me,” you told her, and you should have expected it, really. After all, this was Cairo. She got up and kissed you, her lips capturing your in an instant as she took the lead. She nibbled on your lower lip, moaning slightly against it as you caressed her back.
“Like that?” she asked with a mischievous look in her eyes.
You nodded, grinning a bit. “So, I’m thinking about how you sounded last night. Your moans, cries, I’m recalling how you fell apart while I was inside you, crying and begging for more,” you smirked a bit as she pressed against you and just for a moment stopped breathing as you spoke.
And then she smirked back. “Well, I figured you liked your girls to be loud, seeing how much you rely on your hearing,” she told you with a hint o jealousy in her voice.
You flipped the two of you over, so you were on top. “Girl. As in one,” you reassured her and caressed her cheek. “Just you, Cairo.”
The smile on her lips could have charmed anyone and you were at her mercy, but she was at your mercy as well, just as affected by you as you were affected by her.
A/N: Well, here’s a question for you, do I write chapter 8, or the smut first?

Castiel (Supernatural/Grimm) - Short Story -Extra 1
You know it was hard to avoid.
Your parents would find out eventually.
At least he would.
It’s not like you were hiding Castiel per se. It’s just that a certain someone tended to get a little overprotective. So you knew you would have to slowly work up to it. Ease into the process.
You couldn’t just rush through it crazily.
Like you and Castiel do every other night.
You giggle to yourself and Castiel looks over.
“What’s so funny?”
He looks ready to hear the joke so he can join along in the humor. You just laugh, shaking your head as you park the car.
“Don’t worry about it.”
Turning off the engine you step out and Castiel follows, looking at the outside of the shop.
“Your god parents own this shop.”
You nod.
“Yep, that’s sort of how they met.”
Locking your car, you take Castiel’s hand as you both head to the door. You open it stepping inside and Castiel shuffles in behind you.
Rosalee looks up with a smile.
“(Y/N), perfect timing I have your order and you won’t believe who is here.”
She sounds excited and you’re about to ask who, but said individual walks out from the double doors and you gulp.
“Aw shit.”
Nick, Adalind, Diana and Monroe exit the back room.
Looks like you’ve been caught.
“D-Dad, what are you doing here?”
You laugh awkwardly walking over to him and he smiles, but he eyes Castiel suspiciously when you hug him. Nick pulls back and you move to your mom happily. Once you’re done with the little reunion, you take the paper bag from the table.
“W-Well we’d love to stay but I have to get going.”
You grab Castiel’s hand to make a break for it.
The door locks click shut and you turn back, glaring at Diana. She just smirks.
“What’s the rush sis, why don’t you introduce your friend.” Diana grins.
You frown.
“I should have strangled you when we were kids.”
She just laughs.
“Quit teasing me sister, please, have a seat.” She gestures to the chairs and you sigh. Nick raises a brow.
“Who is your friend?”
You sigh heavily, and Castiel steps forward.
“My name is Castiel, I am an angel from a different universe. (Y/N) and I are lovers.”
That was certainly not easing into it.
It’s about to go down in three, two..
“What do you mean lovers!! Why am I just now hearing about this!!”
Nick all but explodes.
Adalind takes a step forward, placing her hand on his shoulder with a smile.
“Calm down Nick, he’s a sweet guy.”
“You knew about this!?!”
Adalind laughs.
“Of course I did. She was a little worried you would overreact.”
“I never overreact!!”
“You’re overreacting right now.” You point out.
He still looks like he’s about to blow a fuse, but he takes a few calming breaths.
“Alright, just tell me, how long have you both been dating?”
“Five Months, three weeks, eight days and twenty five minutes, fifteen seconds. Sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twen-”
“Castiel, I think he gets the message.”
He nods.
“I love your daughter very much. Thank you both for bringing her into this world. I’m forever grateful.” You blush.
He bows his head and both Rosalee and Adalind look about ready to gush.
Nick looks about ready to draw his gun.
He’s always been this way. You were lucky that now that he is a captain of another precinct he no longer had the time to man your every move like when you were in high school.
He’s protective, and you understand why. Most parents are scared of the metaphoric monsters out in the world, be he’s aware of the very real ones. So his paternal meter seems to always be in overdrive.
“Dad I’m an adult now, you can’t keep manning my every move.”
“Don’t you take that tone with me young lady.”
“Dad!” You whine.
So much for being an adult.
Castiel’s brows are furrowed trying to analyze the issue.
“If you’re worried about any harm coming to your daughter I assure you that would never happen.” Castiel assures.
“Yeah, and if someone were to kidnap her what would you do?”
“I would hunt them down and scatter their parts across the galaxy after extensive torture.”
His reply stuns everyone in the room.
“Wow, that got dark real fast.” Diana mutters.
Nick shakes his head.
“No, I think I kind of like him.”
“Nick!”
“Dad!!”
You can’t believe him. Adalind’s voice is just as scolding.
“How would you describe my daughter?”
“She’s the most beautiful being I have ever met.”
“What would you get her for her birthday?”
“The entire galaxy if it were obtainable.”
“What’s her favorite color?”
“Blue.”
You can’t believe the line of questioning your dad is dishing out. You’re blushing again because Castiel is the most straightforward and honest person you’ve ever met.
Nick takes a step forward and you’re ready for just about anything, but he holds out his hand.
“Welcome to the family.”
Castiel takes it, shaking his hand.
“Thank you.”
You just facepalm.
Maybe you should have been more worried about keeping these two apart, because now you have two overprotective men in your life.
How fun.

Fortuitous Reunion Ch 9
Rita Calhoun x reader Warnings: language, kidnapping, physical assault, very angry/overprotective Rita, hurt/comfort, angst, self defense. things get heavy.
While you were excited for the change of scenery, you were honestly much more excited about seeing your best friend again. It had been a few months by now, both of you busy with work and more that you hadn’t seen each other since Sophie’s last day at Mercy, only communicating through a small handful of texts. You practically bounded into the patient room, missing the cop posted outside the door, launching into a hug with her once you noticed the patient was unconscious.
“Oh my god! You’re finally here!” She greeted enthusiastically, “it was getting boring around here without you!”
“It’s good to see you too.” You laughed, reaching for the chart, “what’s this guy in for?”
“Multiple rapes and murders, I think I heard he kidnapped a cop?”
“I meant medically….but thanks for the heads up, I will not uncuff him when he tries to bribe me later.” You flipped through his chart as Sophie laughed.
“So….any new wedding plans I should know about? What’s the hot gossip?”
“Nothing wedding related,” you laughed, “but I do have some big news.” Sophie gasped dramatically,
“Oh my God! Did you guys change your mind on the kid front? Are you pregnant?!”
“No.” Your face scrunched, “do you think Rita would let me anywhere near a prison ward if I was pregnant?”
“Good point.” She nodded.
“I..found my birth Mom.”
“Oh?! What’s she like?”
“You actually already know her.”
“I do?”
“Olivia…”
“Captain Benson?” You nodded, “talk about a small world.”
“I know!” You moved from the foot of the bed as you checked the man’s vitals, beginning to draw some blood, “we’ve been hanging out on a pretty regular basis the past couple of months. She’s honestly incredible, so sweet, but also a major bad ass at the same time.”
“Safe to say you’re getting along then?”
“Enough that she’s giving me away at the wedding, yeah.”
“Y/n that’s incredible.”
“It’s like..everything’s kinda come full circle and fallen into place perfectly.” You smiled, “I couldn’t be happier.”
“I’m glad.”
“Okay.” You popped the top on the vial, “his vitals are fine. I’ll page cardio but I know they’re backed up right now so it might be a while.”
“It’s fine.” Sophie waved it off, “he’s not 911. I’ll keep an eye on things.”
“I’ll drop this off at the lab and do a round before I come back. Lunch on me?”
“Sounds perfect.” Sophie shot you a grin as you left the room. You were so thankful to have your best friend back in your daily life, as much as everything was falling into place in your personal life, your professional life always enjoyed a little bit of a shake up. You supposed that’s why you got into nursing, as much as it was a lot of paperwork or idly waiting for tradgedy to strike, there was a certain thrill element that gave you a rush, helped retain your interest to keep going to work every day.
It didn’t take long for you to find the lab, you managed to run into a cardiologist on the way and after running over the info they agreed it wasn’t a top priority, but to keep checking in just in case something went awry.
*
“Cap!” Carisi swung into Olivia’s office, a fire burning in his gut, the stiffness evident in his voice as he glanced up, realizing that Rita was sitting across from Olivia’s desk. “Sorry for interruptin’ but we have a problem.”
“What’s going on?”
“Lewis is gone.”
“What? How?”
“I dunno. He assaulted Sophie, left her tied up in the bathroom.” His voice was nearly a low growl as he admitted it, “they’re trying to track down Y/N right now.”
“What do you mean track her down?!” Rita turned in the chair, fully paying attention to the conversation, her heart already picking up in her chest, you weren’t one to just ditch the job.
“She was the last one in the room with the two of ‘em. Soph said she went to drop off labs and find someone from cardio. She also said…and I hate ta pry like this but they had a conversation about you bein’ Y/N’s birth mother in the room. They thought he was unconscious, but there’s a chance Lewis knows she’s your daughter.”
“Have you tried calling her?” Rita shot back, “page her! It’s a goddamn hospital!” Sonny nearly shrunk at the woman’s tone, it was already shifting into her courtroom voice, and despite his own raging emotions he wasn’t about to battle with hers. Thankfully they were saved by Liv’s phone going off,
“It’s her.” She stated before picking up, “sweetheart we’re on our way now. Stay with Sophie we’ll be there in twenty.” The dark chuckle on the other end of the phone made her blood run cold.
“Captain Benson…I had no idea you had such a pretty young thing for a daughter.” Lewis’ voice drawled through the line.
“You do not lay a hand on her!”
Rita’s head snapped toward the other woman, a warning glare already in her eyes as her jaw clenched, how the hell did this happen? Olivia heard a muffled cry from the other side of the phone before Lewis spoke again, this time his voice a little distant as he directed his comment to you.
“I thought I told you to be quiet.” Oliva jumped at the sound of something colliding with your head and then Lewis was back on the line with her, “I couldn’t get you, guess I’ll have to settle for the next best thing. I wonder if she’s as fiesty as you were. What do you think? Will she put up as much of a fight?”
“Lewis!”- the line went dead.
“Find them now.” Rita practically growled toward Benson, who held up a warning hand.
“Rita..”
“No. Three years…three fucking years I have kept her out of this kind of world, and completely safe! She was fine! She was totally out of harms way for three years! Three months knowing that you’re her Mom and she gets abducted?!”
“She’ll be fine.”
“You don’t know that. Goddammit Olivia! This is William Lewis we’re talking about! He managed to kidnap, torture and nearly rape and kill you! You’re a cop! You’re trained with guns, how to de-escalate high stress situations, how to fight! She doesn’t know any of that! Whatever the fuck happens to her is on you, I hope you realize that.”
“Counsellor…” Carisi warned gently. The shouting match in the office had brought attention of the rest of the squad, awkwardly hovering in the open doorway behind Carisi.
“No. She is my world. And I refuse to lose her. So you are going to walk out that door and you are going to do your fucking jobs and find her before he can lay a finger on her. Do I make myself clear?”
Olivia dropped her head into her hands, trying to hold it together while also trying to clear her head enough to make a game plan. Rita was right, Lewis was a force to be reckoned with. Her mind flashed back to the memories she’d tried so hard to keep buried down, the horrible emotional and physical pain brought on by those three days that she still had to live with every day. She wouldn’t wish it on anyone, especially her daughter, you’d done nothing to deserve this, simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong (hypothetical) last name. Taking a deep breath she wiped the stray tear, turning to her team.
“Carisi, go with Rollins to Bellevue. Get Sophie’s statement, get a bolo out on her car. Put a squad car on her and get one on Lucy and Noah. Rollins can follow the bolo, but you’re there as a boyfriend, not a cop. Understood?” He gave a tight nod, turning to his partner, “Fin, Amaro, track Y/N’s phone, even if he’s tossed it it’ll give us an idea of what direction they’re heading in. Start checking traffic cams and toll booths for any hint of Lewis. We have a slight advantage here, we know how he works.”
“We also know he probably wants to be found.” Rollins cut in, all eyes shot to her and she shrugged towards the Captain, “he wants you. He wants your attention, he just happens to have the best leverage he can get.”
“And what!?” Rita shot, “Y/n just becomes collateral damage?”
“It won’t come to that.” Olivia replied, “Rollins is right. Let’s get eyes on that beach house from last time. Go!” With that last urgency, the squad scattered, and fast. Liv turned back to the one woman left in her office, “Rita…I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I wish I could promise you that she won’t be hurt but…”
“Just get her back to me. Please.” Her voice was barely above a whisper.
Tears flooded into Rita’s eyes, her previous anger burnt off, replaced with absolute terror of what this monster was capable of. If he could do as much damage to Benson as she’d seen, she didn’t even want to think about how you were going to come out of this…if you were going to at all.
*
A sudden burning against your abdomen wrenched you out of your unconscious state, a scream muffled by the duct tape over your lips.
“There she is.” The man chuckled, tossing the car’s cigarette lighter back to the front seat, “I thought I mighta’ hit you too hard princess.” You squirmed away as he traced down the side of your face with a stolen scalpel, “I’m gonna take this tape off now. If you so much as think about making a noise you’re dead you hear me?” He cocked an eye brow and you nodded, “good girl.” He stashed the scalpel into the front pocket of your scrub top, “we’ll save that for later.”
You gasped for air the second the tape was off, your head still throbbing from the earlier hit you’d taken. Lewis tugged you out of the back seat of the car, you stumbled on your feet, having been shoved into such an uncomfortable angle for so long. You appeared to be at an off the beaten track gas station, he’d parked around back, a curve of trees hiding you from view from the highway. There was a second car parked nearby, you didn’t miss the trail of blood leading from it to the trunk of Sophie’s, trembling at the thought. Lewis chuckled as he quickly led you to the backseat of the stolen one.
“You’re much more compliant than Captain Benson was. It’s a shame she didn’t tell me she had a daughter…you’re much more my type.”
“Wh-“ you were cut off suddenly by another piece of tape sealing your lips shut. What did Liv have to do with this? Your brain scrambled as he roughly shoved you into the backseat, it suddenly became very clear when you remembered Sophie’s words to you earlier that afternoon. Multiple rapes and murders….a kidnapped cop. That cop had to be Olivia. You felt your eyes burn with tears, a shaky breath trying to escape you as you did your best not to think of what this man had in store for you. You half watched him pop the trunk, not liking the sound of the low whistle and laughter coming from that direction as he viewed its contents. You jolted when he reappeared in the doorway,
“These are gonna be much more fun, don’t ya think princess?” In his hand was a small collection of what looked like hunting or fishing knives. You specifically cringed at the serrated blade of one of them, not wanting to have any idea of what it felt like. He tossed all but one into the passanger seat, “shall we try this one out first?”
You instinctively jerked when his bony hand enclosed around your ankle, you were tempted to try and kick his face but you knew that wouldn’t do much good considering your position, your hands were bound, and he had a weapon in his hands, you wouldn’t make it far. The knife slipped under the leg of your pants, his hand swiftly moving upwards as it sliced through the fabric, he twisted it at the end, slicing into your thigh. The tears burning in your eyes began to slip through the cracks, streaking your face as the blood slowly leaked onto the torn fabric of your pants.
“Yeah…these’ll work much better.” Lewis laughed, slamming the back door shut before he moved to the drivers seat. “You’re such a good playmate princess.” Even just his gaze made you squirm, there had been no doubt in your mind that this man was a fucking monster earlier, but you were praying that somewhere down the road, he would fuck up, preferably sooner rather than later.
*
Back at the precinct Rita’s hands were shaking in her lap. In hindsight maybe that fourth cup of coffee wasn’t a good idea after all. It’s not like she was having trouble staying alert right now, her brain was shooting all of the horrible thoughts it could at her about what was potentially happening to you right now. She remembered hearing about his last case, the damage he’d done to so many people, Olivia included. While the other woman had never opened up about it to her, she knew her injuries had been bad, and she knew that Lewis enjoyed torturing his victims. For the sake of your sanity, there was a part of her that wished he would accidentally fuck up, killing you instantly. At least then she would know you hadn’t suffered too much.
They’d found your phone on the side of the road where Lewis had ditched it after calling Liv, it wasn’t far from the hospital, but gave them a general idea that he might be heading South, though that didn’t make much sense. It was close enough to the Williamsburg Bridge that he could have potentially trapped himself on the peninsula and they began flooding the zone with uni’s.
Sophie’s car turned up at an isolated gas station fourty five minutes later. There was blood and hair in the backseat, and worst of all, a dead body in the trunk. They managed to thankfully ID him, and put a bolo out on all and any vehicles he owned the squad knew time was of the essence and they were slowly running out as the sun sank over the city.
Olivia glanced across the squad room, through the door to her office, as worried as she was about you, she knew Rita was absolutely terrified, and she couldn’t blame her. While Rita may not have been privy to exactly how dirty Lewis liked to play, that was still the love of her life being held captive with some psychopath. The one she’d waited so long to find, the one who made her incredibly soft, loving, the complete opposite of the woman she was on the outside. Now as Olivia watched her wipe away a fresh set of tears, hunched over on the couch, she saw a completely different woman. One that was utterly broken, scared, one who probably cared more about you than she did about herself. She was merely a shell of her other powerful, and warm woman that she used to be. Olivia couldn’t let that be the woman that Rita became, she had to get you back, not for herself, but for your true love. She would go to the ends of the earth to make sure that you walked down that damn aisle, even if she had to sacrifice herself to make it happen. It was what you and Rita deserved.
Rita’s head tilted slightly as her phone buzzed, she’d been screening her calls, obviously more involved with finding you, even if all she was doing was sitting in Liv’s office crying over the thought of never seeing you again. This notification piqued her interest, grabbing the phone, practically stumbling to the doorway.
“Liv!” Olivia’s head swiveled back to Rita, brows furrowed as she jogged over to Rita.
“What?”
“They’re in the Hamptons.”
“What? How do you know?” Rita flipped the phone, an image of Lewis practically dragging you in the back door of a beach house.
“Security notifications come straight to my phone, you need to call the local p.d now! Call them off, if he hears sirens, I’m worried….” She took a shaky breath, “I’m worried what he’ll do.”
Rita quickly rattled off the address as Liv got everyone caught up, her hand already dialing the local police to not engage, that they had this handled and were on their way. Rita knew there was no way this was just an off chance, sure, Lewis liked the idea of the abandoned beach town, no one would be around since the weather had started to chill. But there was no way in hell he randomly picked her Hamptons house. There was some part of you that was still semi conscious enough to get him to agree to going there. She was now more thankful than ever that she’d had the cameras set up last year, she wasn’t even sure if you knew about them, maybe you’d just been trying to get somewhere familiar, somewhere you could pretend what was happening wasn’t as bad as it was.
*
When you came to for the third time that day, you groaned, your entire fucking body ached, littered with little cuts and burns. Somewhere along the way you remembered that you’d read somewhere that the more you fight back, the more likely they were to just give up and let you go without finishing the job.
As it turned out, that was not the case that applied here.
You’d taken quite the beating once inside the house, you were certain a couple of ribs were broken, and you could feel even more bruising beginning to form underneath your skin. You’d be feeling these injuries for a while, if you made it out of here. Basically the only thing keeping you going at this point was Rita, you had to hold on for her, you couldn’t possibly leave her alone in this horrible version of the world.
You tried to move your body, remembering when you did that he had your wrists individually duct taped to the spires in the headboard. You’d been cautiously wriggling against them since he bound you, thankful that the heat was for some reason turned on in the house, even the slightest bit of sweat could help melt some of the glue on your skin.
“Awe…you’re awake princess.” He sneered as he re-entered the room, “ready for round two?”
“Please…no…” your voice was hoarse, tears budding in the corners of your eyes. The gash on your leg had steadily been leaking for hours, you felt completely exhausted, you weren’t sure how much more fight you had left in you. He chuckled darkly again, you shrieked as he tore what was left of your pants off right before he wrenched at your body, flipping you onto your stomach. The yelp started out from the pain of your shoulders moving in ways they probably shouldn’t, but grew louder at the sudden stabbing in your chest.
“You can scream all you want out here…no one’s gonna hear you.”
You practically sobbed into the pillow, feeling the bed dip with his weight, the clinking of his belt buckle. He traced one of the hunting knives up the inside of your leg, too distracted with playing with his prey that he didn’t notice you wriggling against the duct tape. You realized what was stabbing you in the chest. He’d swiped your ID badge back at the hospital, but your brain thankfully remembered the scalpel he had stashed in your pocket, clearly forgetting about it once he discovered the bigger knives. You knew that the tape on your left wrist was loosened, with enough force, you’d probably be able to get out, even if it meant breaking your wrist in the process. The cold blade of the knife was suddenly at your lower back, pressing in slightly right as it dipped into the waistband of your underwear, a muffled cry escaped your lips.
A car door slammed outside, pulling Lewis’ attention and while it may only be brief, and he may have the larger knife, you had a much better knowledge of human anatomy. Using all of your lasting energy, you ripped your hand from the loose tape (a scream ripping from your lips at the pain), grabbing the scalpel as you did your best to roll over under his weight. One deep swipe to his carotid and you ducked under your free arm, doing the best you could to keep his now dead weight, and gushing blood off your face.
You jumped when you heard a loud crash from the direction of the front door, your heart rate slightly coming back to earth when you heard Olivia’s voice shouting through the house.
“Get the fuck off her!” She didn’t realize he was already dead, a sob escaping your lips bringing her attention back to you as she shoved his body off you. “Honey…it’s okay…it’s okay. I’m gonna need you to put that down, okay?” Your eyes moved to your trembling hand, not even realizing you were still holding a weapon, you dropped it instantly as if it was burning into your skin.
“Rita?” You choked out.
“She’s here, she’s outside sweetheart.” You could hear other members of the squad sweeping the rest of the house as Liv did her best to calm you down. She swiftly used the knife to free you of your other bond, your un-injured hand cradling your broken one. “There’s EMT’s outside, we need to get you checked out.” Your gaze dropped to your body, littered in marks, your scrub top soaked with Lewis’ blood, your shredded pants lay next to the bed.
“Bottom drawer.” You murmured. Olivia suddenly remembered that this was Rita’s house, you were bound to know where things were.
Swiftly moving through the room she had you in a fresh pair of pyjama pants quickly, taking a moment to hold you to her. Breathing out a sigh of relief that they’d gotten to you before Lewis had hit his limit, and that you’d done a pretty decent job protecting yourself. You did have some of that Benson blood in you after all.
Once you were down the porch steps your eyes were searching for Rita, finding her near the ambulance. She let out a strangled cry at the sight of you, part of it relieved that you were still alive, the other half of her absolutely disintegrating at how much blood you were covered in. She pushed past the barrier of cops as you half jogged toward her, ignoring the pain of your leg.
The instant you were in her arms you broke, buried against her coat while the sobs heaved through your body, the pain in your ribs making you cry even harder. You’d done your best to stay strong for far too long, you’d put it all into fighting back, into saving as much of your dignity that you could. Now, wrapped in Rita’s embrace you were finally able to let it all come crashing out. You could feel her own tears dropping against your skin, her body shaking with breaths as she held you.
“Lewis?” She asked over the top of your head to Liv.
“Dead.”
“I didn’t hear a shot.”
“She slit his throat.” Liv gestured toward you, Rita pulled the slightest bit away, glancing down at your face.
“Am..am I in trouble?” You asked through your cries.
“No honey, absolutely not.” Even with Olivia’s response, Rita’s grip on you tightened as the other woman stepped forward, as if she was going to attempt to cuff you then and there. You winced at the pain, a grunt coming from your throat.
“Come on darling, they need to look at you.” She softly kissed the top of your head, her voice quiet enough for only you to hear, a prominent shake it in as she directed you towards the ambulance. “Did he rape you?” You took a shaky breath, your words nearly lost against her body.
“Just…just his hand..” you shuddered, thankful you’d been so out of it by that point from blood loss and a very likely concussion that you barely acknowledged or remembered it. Rita’s grip tightened around you again, she was happy he hadn’t managed to complete his task but god only knew if you hadn’t killed him she would be walking right back into that house and doing it herself.
She guided you to the paramedics as Liv came jogging back out with a tshirt from the house, letting you rid yourself of the blood soaked one. It relieved Rita to see that so much of the blood wasn’t yours, but her eyes dragged over the other small marks littering your body. There was no way in hell she was leaving your side for a very long time.
An I.V was promptly hooked up to give you some pain killers and fluids while the paramedic started asking you a few questions, you were half in an out at this point, exhaustion wearing on you more than you could’ve imagined. You knew you mentioned your leg, that it needed to be stitched, and you were aware of Rita’s hand curled in yours, the other softly brushing hair from your face. You knew you were finally safe, that your love was back by your side, your subconscious finally encouraging you to rest for a bit.

Masterlist
You paced nervously in the hallway, waiting for that knock on the door. Ever since you were 2, you had been living with your grandparents. Your mother was a muggleborn and was found by the vengeful deatheaters a few months after Sirius was imprisoned. Your grandparents didn’t understand a lot about the wizarding world, but they understood you. They were your best friends.
When you would ask about your mother and the bad people who took her away, they would gently sit you down and tell you all about her. They would tell you how much she loved you, the way she had cried when you were first born, how similar she was to you, how she had spent every minute fighting for your father’s innocence.
They would then tell you about your father. How much he loved your mother and you, how you had his grey eyes and the beautiful hair and his affinity for mischief. They even told you about his friends and the pranks they did in school.
Your mother had so many pictures from her school days. Pictures with your father, with her friends, with his friends. You could spend the entire day looking at them. But you could never bring yourself to. It was too difficult. Too difficult to look at the pictures of the two most important people you barely remembered.
Harry was younger than you. Once you had received the news that your father had broken out, you both had talked a lot about him. You told him Sirius was innocent but you had no proof, neither did he have any reason to believe you.
Once his fourth year and your sixth year was over, you had gotten a letter from your father. He was finally healthy enough to travel and wanted to meet you at the apartment he and your mother had shared. You had spent 2 years there as an infant before Sirius had been wrongly accused and your mother moved back in with her parents.
Your grandpa and grandma were ecstatic when they had heard the news and had instantly allowed you to spend the weekend with him. You didn’t know if you were nervous or excited. Probably both.
Your heart beat sped up when you heard a knock and ran to open the door. You were greeted by a man looking in his 30s who looked so much like you. “Dad...” you said, not being able to believe that he was finally here.
He smiled and pulled you into an awkward hug. “It is so good to see you, sweetheart.”
You grinned and let him in, closing the door behind him.
He looked around the house he had shared with your mother, all the memories rushing back. When they had first bought it, decorated it and his favourite one, when they had brought you home from the hospital.
“I - you can have a look around if you want,” you offered, not knowing what else to say. “It must have been a long time since you were last here.”
He nodded, “It is, but I am starving. You want to have dinner first?”
You gave him a small smile and went towards the dining room. “I didn’t know what you liked so I got pizza.” You said nervously. “We can get something else. I am sorry I wasn’t - ”
“Pizza is just fine,” he grinned.
The silence during dinner was very awkward. Neither of you knew what to say. Sirius’ heart was heavy with sadness and guilt. How he had missed out on all those years. Missed out on your firsts. The first time you left for Hogwarts, the first time you had cried over someone, your first detention. And guilt because it was his fault. If he wouldn’t have gone after Peter, he would be there to watch you grow up.
“Uh, how is school?” he asked, snapping you out of your thoughts.
“Nice, I like it there,”
He nodded. “I did, too. My family was the worst so Hogwarts was my home. Especially after I met your mother.”
You didn’t know how to respond to that. Your heart clenched at her mention and didn’t say anything else during the rest of the dinner.
“Do you wanna see the rest of the house before you sleep? I don’t think you have before.” He asked.
You shook your head and followed him upstairs. The first door he opened was the master bedroom’s, a picture of your mother and father lying on the nightstand, covered in dust. Every inch of the room and the bathroom was covered in dust.It had been so long it was a miracle the light switches worked. With a flick of his wand, he cleaned it all up and made it look as good as new.
“She was beautiful,” he sighed, looking at the photo.
You nodded and left the room quickly, going to your nursery. There was a crib on one side and a bed on the other. The wall had a shelf full of books, both muggle and magical alike. A broom hung over your crib, zooming around in circles. This room, too, was covered in dust.
You were reading the titles of the book when you heard him chuckle behind you.You turned around and saw him remove all the dust. You gasped when you saw the room properly. There were hand-painted drawings on the wall and stars on the ceiling.
“She painted the walls.” he told you. “And the stars were my idea. There were nights when she missed you a lot and would come in here and sleep in this room. After a point, we all slept in the nursery, hence the bed.” He laughed fondly.
You didn’t like it. It was too painful to know that you had all these wonderful moments but you hardly remembered them. Too painful to know that you never got the chance to make more of such moments. You sighed and sat down on the bed.
“What’s wrong?” He asked, sitting down beside you.
You looked at him, eyes full of unshed tears. You never realized how much you had needed him until he was right in front of you. “I - I barely remember you. Or mom. I see flashes of you and her, but that’s it.” He placed an arm around your shoulder and your voice broke. “I missed you, but it was so difficult missing you when I didn’t even remember you...” You then broke down into sobs as he pulled you into him. “I missed you so much, dad.” You cried.
Holding you in his arms as you cried only drowned him deeper in guilt. “I am so sorry, baby...” he said softly. “I never should have left that night. Please forgive me.”
You sniffed and looked up at him, tears still rolling down. “When grandma told me what you had done, I was so angry at you for leaving. But then I realized I wanted to be like you. Brave and loyal to a fault. McGonagall says I resemble you two so much that it is actually scary.” You laughed softly.
He smiled and wiped away your tears.
“I will be right back,” you said and left the room to change after sitting in silence for a few minutes.
He smiled softly to himself, knowing that his daughter had missed him just as much as he had. It gave him peace knowing that you had forgiven him. He was going through the story books when he realized that you were not 2 years old anymore. He couldn’t read you bedtime stories anymore.
“There are a few photos I need to know more about,” you said from behind him, as if reading his mind. “You can tell me about them.”
He nodded and ran off to get the photographs from downstairs. You placed the box in front of him and settled into bed, waiting for him to begin.
He chuckled at the collection of pictures your mother had. “These were my friends,” he said, handing you a photo of 4 boys with arms around each other, laughing to the camera. “Peter was a friend, too,” he said sadly.
“Tell me more,” you asked, your eyes full of excitement.
He laughed and began an elaborate tale of the Marauders in Hogwarts, reminiscing all their pranks and memories. Somehow, talking about them with you was not as painful as it was with others or when he was by himself and he wouldn’t want it any other way.
By the time he was done, you were already asleep. You had not completed the story behind even one photograph. He chuckled softly and tucked you in, kissing your forehead.
Now that he was finally home with his daughter, he was not going anywhere ever again.

I’m no artist but all I think about is Luca so here are my headcanons for them when they’re older!
Luca:
As I said in a previous post, he gets a bit thicker as he grows since his whole family is on the thicker side and he’s very skinny.
His tail gets longer as he gets older and he’s like a little kitty with it. When he’s in the water, he sleeps on his stomach with it curled completely around him. He also wraps his tail around Alberto and Giulia at times if there’s ever a time where it’s raining or something when they’re in the surface.
He’s the shortest of the trio and he hates that with every fiber of his being. Neither of them let him forget it.
He loves space more than the movie lets on, and that’s saying something. He has read almost every book he can find on it and he rambles about it every day.
He is still pretty clumsy and his arms always have a few bruises or scrapes on them. He likes putting colorful bandaids on his cuts because he likes the colors.
He loves helping Giulia’s mom with painting! Not just modeling for her, but just painting with her or learning. It reminds him of Alberto. He’s not… good at it, but he loves it.
Oh he loves dogs. He’s still a little scared of cats after Machiavelli, but Nerone is his baby and he would do anything for that little pup.
Has a massive sweet tooth!
As expected, he loves learning about Vespas and how they work and everything. He does his research and writes letters to Alberto about the best books to read about Vespas to ensure they buy or make the very best one.
He’s always moving, just can’t sit still. He’s always bouncing his knee or kicking his legs or drumming his fingers. He just can’t help it. (He’s neurodivergent yes, but this is the 50s so…)
Still has very fishy sayings that no one but him, his family, and Alberto understand.
Can ramble for hours about the sea and how he can relate it to space. He still loves water and tends to list the names of his goatfish under his breath when he’s stressed to calm himself down. He still misses wrangling them, but he is so happy that he’s free.
Spends hours working on his handwriting because he doesn’t like how messy it is. He wants it to be perfect.
He’s very self conscious about most human things he does. The only thing he isn’t self conscious about is his swimming abilities, but he hides it pretty well. He’s most self conscious about his intelligence, or lack thereof. He’s meant to be at Giulia’s level of intelligence but since he was raised in the ocean, he knows next to nothing and so he has to work extra hard to get good grades. He stresses a lot about it and sobs if he gets a bad grade.
He’s a surprisingly good cook. It just relaxes him.
He loves flowers and learned how to make flower crowns.
He also loves collecting seashells he finds because it reminds him of home.
Like many agree, he is terrified of bugs, but he could never hurt one.
He’s very emotional, but that’s canon so.
His letters to Alberto are typically very long and full of emotions and things about his day, as well as random things. He doesn’t mind Alberto’s shorter letters, and he saves them in a box under his bed.
Every time he sees Alberto again he practically tackles him in a hug. The first time, both of them fell straight to the floor and were bruised for days.
He loves stuffed animals. Since it’s not “manly” to keep them, he gets them “for Giulia” and then puts them on his bed. (Modern day, he wouldn’t give a damn and just get them for himself)
Gets flustered super easily, as we see in canon. Be it an innocent romantic comment or a nice compliment, he goes super red and embarrassed, stumbling over his words.
Still says “silenzio Bruno” before he does anything he’s nervous to. Some kids at school are confused about it but he’s more confused at their confusion. How do they not know what a Bruno is? Isn’t it a human thing?
Loves to annotate his books. Associates certain books/book quotes with the people he loves and will give them those books or repeat the quote to them.
Though Genova is much more accepting than Portorosso, he is still bullied pretty badly when Giulia isn’t around, and sometimes even when she is. He pretends nothing happens or that it doesn’t bother him, but it does. It bothers him so, so much. Alberto can see right through him with ease and is there to remind him that everything is okay and he’s still loved. It helps, but not as much as Alberto thinks it does.
Even with the bullying, Luca loves school so, so much. That being said, he loves summer and being in Portorosso more.
Does that “look me in the eyes. You know I love you right?” thing he and his mother do to everyone he loves.
Alberto:
There is nothing he loves more than harassing Giulia. Being her brother, he loves to tease her, but will fight anyone who does the same.
Once decked Ercole. Got in trouble but Massimo secretly gave him a high five.
Cleaned up the island and erased the tallies he made for his father. He put some of Giulia’s fairy lights in there and has a few extra pillows, books in every corner and drawings all across the tower. He still has a lot of his human artifacts, but most of them are gone since he needs money for a Vespa.
His new tally board has “Reunion” scrawled at the top and its for waiting for his sister and best friend to return home.
Loves being a lifeguard.
Is super close to Machiavelli now and even adopted a stray to be his friend. Or uh… more than a friend, considering the big litter the cat soon fathered.
Alberto named all the kittens after fish.
He always draws things for Luca and eagerly waits his arrival.
Also has a massive sweet tooth, bigger than Luca’s.
Stores Luca’s letters away under his bed.
He and Massimo made Giulia’s hideout a proper treehouse and it’s now a study spot.
Has tons of books about Vespas. Massimo taught him to read and write.
He’s more self confident about his “human expertise” since he does it his own way.
One of the messiest eaters I swear to god-
Doesn’t care much about space, but he’ll listen to Luca ramble about it for hours without complaint.
Doesn’t really have anything he’s super interested in other than Vespas like how Luca likes space, but I might change my mind about that.
Loves watermelon!
His recklessness causes him to have as many bruises and scrapes as Luca’s clumsiness does, but he doesn’t care about putting bandaids on.
Alberto’s letters are pretty short but great!
Definitely bottles things up until he can’t anymore but he’s trying to get better.
Part of him feels guilty about catching and eating fish, but it’s hinted seamonsters eat fish so I’m accepting that as canon and saying he feels slightly less guilty about it. Definitely enjoys pasta more.
Loves the snow, especially when it means snowball fights. (Definitely throws them as hard as he can at Ercole. Son of a bitch deserves it.)
Oh yeah, he swears now. He’s heard a few swears around while making deliveries around the year and catches on. He makes a few of his own, too.
He just makes up words of his own as well as phrases. He doesn’t just convince Luca to say them. He convinces Massimo & Giulia as well as Luca’s fam. It’s a big, fun inside joke.
Loves turning into a sea monster and acting silly to make the kids around town smile.
Honestly he just loves being a sea monster. It’s great to be him. He feels free. It’s not as good a feeling as being on a Vespa, but it’s something.
He stares longingly at every Vespa he sees.
He probably named that girl cat Vespa or some variation of now that I think of it.
Giulia:
I see a lot of headcanons of her with glasses and I gotta say I love it! So, glasses Giulia!!!
Tallest of the three! Alberto hates her for it but she loves it.
She actually takes after her father more than she does her mother, contrary to popular belief.
Though she loves space, after her meeting with the boys, she’s thinking of marine biology. She stays up late every night researching everything aquatic. She constantly asks the boys about sea things and visits in that diver suit whenever she can.
She bullies Alberto as often as he bullies her. Their play fights look so aggressive that people think they’re actually trying to kill each other.
She’s constantly torn between chopping off all her hair or letting it grow out. She settles on leaving it medium length and tie it up.
A very yellow person! It’s everywhere. She loves it so much! The color of happiness, baby.
She’s the first to call Alberto part of the family, saying in a letter that her school wants to meet her brother. She got a letter from Massimo saying Alberto sobbed upon reading it.
Loves to paint with her mom but thinks bike riding is better. She loves that bike.
Harasses Alberto to put a sidecar on his Vespa for her. (Inspired by a drawing by aishimation on Instagram!)
Though she adore her mother, she’s a daddy’s girl and loves him so much.
Can and will punch anyone who calls her brother and her best friend a monster straight in the jaw
Hates her school uniform
Will also pour water all over Alberto just to piss him off
Summertime? I think you mean “training for the Portorosso Cup and also attack Alberto and Luca with a hose for a few months”
She loves to dance
Wants to get tattoos when she’s older
Very much a feminist and doesn’t care how much trouble she gets in for voicing what she knows is right
---
More on the way probably. These dumb gay Italian fish and their ginger friend is all I think about dhdhjdhdvdh

Word count: 2,002
A/N: i had so much fun writing this omg it seriously made me want to cry! i hope you enjoy it!!
✩❀✩❀✩
“Tasha, stop!” I cried, giggling slightly as my sister and her friend chased me through the fields that were located a few blocks away from home.
The fields were my favorite place to play. My older sister Natasha, who was three years older than me, always liked to come to the fields with her friends. A few months ago, I had turned six and mom told me that I was old enough to go play in the fields with Tasha. My younger sister Yelena was only four, so she was still too young to play with us. But that was okay, I still liked to play with her in our backyard. We even had a playground. Tasha had taught me how to do the monkey bars without getting scared, and I passed the skill on to Lena.
Today, I was playing tag with Tasha and her friend. Of course, with them being nine and me only being six, they were a lot faster than me. Being faster than me meant that no matter how fast I ran, they would always catch up to me. Nat reached her hand out and shoved me lightly in the back. However, I wasn’t expecting it, and it caught me off guard, making me stumble a bit. My foot caught on a rock and I went tumbling forward, rolling down a small hill. The smell of grass overcame me as I continued to fall, hearing a sickening crack followed by a blinding pain in my leg. Finally, I came to a stop as I reached the bottom of the hill. I looked down at my leg. It was bent at a weird angle, and the pain was almost unbearable as I started to wail.
“Y/n!” Tasha screamed as she ran down the hill after me. “Are you okay?”
“No,” I cried, grabbing her and burying my head in her shoulder. “My leg really hurts.”
“Okay, hold on, we’re gonna get you home to mom, okay? She’ll know how to make it better,” Tasha reassured me.
I nodded feebly as she helped me up, sitting me in the basket of her friend’s bike before riding back home to get help.
——
My eyes shot open, tearing me from my dream. It was rare that I dreamt about my childhood. I had very few memories from that time, and the one I had just dreamt about was one of the most vivid. I broke my leg that day, and it took two months to heal. I remember Yelena being upset because it meant I couldn’t play outside with her for a while. As much as I didn’t like to recall that time in my life, I couldn’t help but smile at the memory.
Amongst my other memories from my childhood, there were things like my first crush—a kid in my kindergarten class—when I was five, the friends that I had made and had to leave behind, and family dinners every night. But what I remembered more than anything else were the fields we always used to play in. In the distance of those fields, there was a huge mansion made from stone, and Natasha and I always used to imagine it was a castle. Whenever the sun was setting, the orange sky made it look like there was a dragon in the castle blowing fire into the air.
Suddenly, I was pulled from my memories by the sound of my phone ringing. I looked at it sketchily. I never gave my phone number out to anybody, so the odds of getting an actual phone call were extremely rare. Against my better judgment, I picked up my phone and answered the call.
“Who are you and how did you get this number?” I asked, trying my best to sound intimidating.
“Y/n?” A voice came through from the other end.
The voice almost sounded familiar, like I had heard it before, but I couldn’t place it.
“I’m not going to ask again,” I said, my fist balling up at my side. “I am not the kind of person you want to piss off.”
“Oh my god, Yelena, it’s them,” the voice spoke, but it sounded far off like the speaker had brought the phone away from their mouth.
Did she just say Yelena?
“Tasha?” I questioned, my voice cracking ever so slightly as realization set in.
“Yeah, it’s me,” She whispered reassuringly. “It’s me.”
I fell speechless, the phone almost dropping from my hand as I moved to wipe away the tears that were already beginning to roll down my face.
Natasha, Yelena, and I were all brought into the Red Room at the same time. Natasha was eleven, I was eight, and poor little Yelena was only six. What we went through was something that no child—or grown adult for that matter—should ever have to go through. I was there for ten years. Ten years of being held prisoner, of being tortured, of being forced to kill.
I was sixteen when I graduated the Red Room. I thought it meant things were over, that I could run as far away as I could and never look back, but I was wrong. The Red Room continued to control me for two years after that, until one day I faked my own death and got out. It killed me inside to know that Lena and Tasha thought I was dead, but I knew I had no future if I stayed. My only regret was that I couldn’t save everyone else.
I distanced myself from the world, afraid of what I had become, what I had done, and what I was capable of. I escaped eleven years ago, and I’ve been alone ever since.
“Y/n, are you there?” Natasha’s voice came through the phone again, drawing me back to reality.
“How did you find me? I’m supposed to be dead.”
“I know a guy,” She responded, and I could practically hear her smirking.
Right. She’s friends with the Stark guy who owns practically the best technology on earth.
“Listen, there’s a lot we need to tell you about, and I think a reunion is in order,” Natasha explained. “We have your location and we’ll be there in an hour. Be ready.”
With that, Natasha ended the call, leaving me alone in silence. Half of my brain told me this wasn’t happening. That wasn’t really Natasha on the phone, it was just some cruel way for the Red Room to find me. But the other half of my brain believed that everything that just happened was real. As much as I wanted to err on the side of caution, the thought of seeing my sisters again made me the happiest I’ve felt since I was a child.
I glanced down at my phone to check the time. Ten minutes had passed since the phone call, giving me about fifty minutes to pack up my things and get ready.
Packing wasn’t hard. I lived a very minimalistic lifestyle, mainly due to the fact that I didn’t have a proper job, and I was always ready to run at a moment’s notice if I ever caught wind of the Red Room near me.
I finished packing and proceeded to pace the floor until the hour was up and I heard a knock at my door. Deciding that I could never be too cautious, I grabbed my handgun and checked that it was loaded before pointing it at the ground and approaching the door.
“Who’s there?” I called.
“It’s us. It’s Natasha and Yelena,” A voice with a thick Russian accent called back.
Yelena.
“Prove it,” I said again, still keeping my guard up. “Tell me something that only you two would know.”
There was a moment of silence before someone spoke up. This time, it was Nat.
“When we were little, you would spend almost every summer night catching fireflies because I told you they could grant wishes. When you found out they couldn’t, you were so mad, you didn’t talk to me for a week.”
I smiled slightly at the memory. Turning the gun’s safety on, I tucked it into my waistband and opened the door, staring face-to-face with my sisters for the first time in over two decades. Almost immediately, the two of them embraced me in a tight hug, and I never wanted to let go.
“So, what did you need to tell me?” I asked once we all pulled away from the hug.
“We’ll tell you in the car. We have to get going though, we have a long journey ahead of us,” Nat told me.
“Where are we going?” I questioned.
“Home.”
——
Natasha and Yelena explained everything to me. About how they teamed up, about how they killed Dreykov, and about how the Red Room was finally gone.
“So, the other widows, are they safe?” I questioned, processing everything they had just told me.
“Yes,” Yelena answered from the passenger seat, turning around to face me in the back. “There is no one controlling them anymore, and we are currently working toward undoing all of the mind control the Red Room created.”
“I can’t believe you guys took down the Red Room without me!” I exclaimed, crossing my arms. “I would’ve loved to help.”
“Y/n, we thought you were dead!” Nat tried to reason, but I wouldn’t listen.
I wasn’t seriously angry with her, and she knew that. Teasing each other was something we did all the time as kids.
“You can’t be mad at us,” Yelena raised her hands in mock defense. “We literally just saved so many lives.”
I continued to cross my arms, ignoring them both.
“C’mon, y/n, talk to us,” Nat glanced back at me through her mirror as she drove.
Still, I said nothing. I was extremely stubborn as a child, and I guess somethings never change.
“I’ve got an idea,” Lena whispered to Nat.
“February made me shiver,” Yelena started singing. “With every paper I’d deliver. Bad news on the doorstep, I couldn’t take one more step.”
“I can’t remember if I cried when I read about his widowed bride,” Nat joined in. “But something touched me deep inside. The day the music died.”
The two of them went quiet and I knew they were expecting me to sing the next part. Yelena looked back at me, and eventually, I caved.
“So bye-bye, Miss American Pie,” I sang slowly, a smile creeping onto my face. “Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry. And them good ol’ boys were drinking whiskey and rye, singin’ ‘this’ll be the day that I die. This’ll be the day that I die…’”
Suddenly, all three of us were singing as loud as we could.
“Did you write the book of love, and do you have faith in god above? If the bible tells you so. Now, do you believe in rock ‘n’ roll? Can music save your mortal soul? And can you teach me how to dance real slow?”
I burst out laughing with glee, causing Yelena and Nat to follow suit. We laughed for what seemed like an eternity, until we were all red in the face and gasping for air.
Trying to catch my breath, I looked out the window just in time to see us speed past a sign that read:
Welcome to Ohio
I continued to stare out the window as I watched the fields fly by. The sun was just beginning to set, and out in the distance, I could see the “castle” that we always used to admire.
Suddenly, I thought back to when we were kids. I was filled with all the memories we made in Ohio, as a family. Even though I knew it was all fake, it was real in my head. Melina and Alexei were my parents, and Tasha and Lena were my sisters. Ohio was my home, and nothing anyone said or did could take that away from me.

request from anonymous: I was wondering if you could do a NSFW reinerxreader fic where he gets back from Marley and sees how much the reader has changed (for the better) and falls in love with her all over again (let's just say they had a crush on each other since they were kids) hehehe
request status: CLOSED
NOTE: i’m so sorry but NSFW reqs are off now. i didn’t feel confident in the writing so i took it off from an option but i hope i gave the rest of the imagine some justice.
pairing: reiner braun x fem! reader
when signing up for the Marley Warrior Program, you didn’t sign yourself up for it. you felt as though you didn’t have what it took to become a warrior or make it through the training so you didn’t even bother to sign yourself up.
however, you were a honorary Marleyan through one of your parents. Pieck and Reiner were some of the friends you had when they signed themselves up for the program. Reiner was your closest friend throughout your childhood so when you heard that he was picked to inherit the Armored Titan, you felt a bit bittersweet about it.
you knew what the implications were when kids chose to be warriors. they only had so many years to live before the titan powers essentially killed them. they would be gone for YEARS at a time and have the possibility of not returning back home.
the announcement of the warriors finally returning home from Paradis was news ringing throughout the city. the heroic effort from Gabi Braun was the latest thing being talked about as it finally gave all warriors and the candidates a chance to come home.
“mother, I’ll be back, I’m going to watch everyone welcome them back,” you told her. she nodded, giving you a smile knowing that the only person you wanted to see back was Reiner.
the adults talked amongst themselves when the two of you were kids about how you two were perfect for each other. you were attached to the hip when he wasn’t with Bertholdt and the day before he left to Paradis was a day you wouldn’t forget.
the two of you were under a tree, Reiner speaking about how nervous he had became over the course of the last few days. leaving his mom, you, and missing life in general were thoughts running through his head. you had no idea what to do or say considering you weren’t in the position to even give him advice.
the night was already crawling in when Reiner had offered to walk you back home. you were holding onto his arm a bit tightly as you knew this would be the last time you’d see him for a few years.
you reached your home, giving Reiner a tight hug before whispering to him that he’d be okay. once you pulled away, you could see conflict inside of Reiner’s head before he grabbed you by the shoulders and basically smashing your lips with his.
after Reiner pulled away, you couldn’t help but laugh. you knew Reiner was the last person to know anything about kissing anyone. Reiner internally freaked out, thinking what he did was wrong.
“Reiner, relax,” you whispered before grabbing him by the hand and pulling him towards you. you cupped his cheek softly with your hand and returned the kiss back but a lot more gently. Reiner sighed in relief, letting you take the lead.
once you finally pulled away, you looked at him in the eye seriously.
“come back to me alive, Reiner.”
he gulped nervously and nodded before giving you a quick hug and running back towards his home.
you wore the clothes you thought would be the most eye appealing to Reiner. you hadn’t seen him in years, the two of you fully grown adults by now and you honestly had no idea if Reiner would even care to see you anymore.
all those years in Paradis must’ve changed him as a person. being surrounded by them probably made him a stonewall and who knew, maybe you were just some after thought to him now.
you walked to where everyone was meeting the warriors and candidates. you stood next to a couple awaiting their kid as the doors finally opened and you felt your heart started to race seeing everyone sitting in the back of the horses.
“exciting right?” the woman said happily. you nodded, “waiting for someone in specific?” she asked.
you nodded, taking the photo of you and Reiner from the back pocket of your skirt.
“Vice Chief Braun was a close friend of mine from childhood.”
her eyes nodded seeing the photo, “wow,” was all she managed to say before screams erupted even louder as the horses that held Pieck, Porco, Colt Reiner, Gabi, and a few others finally entered.
you clapped softly, trying not to draw too much attention to yourself as you laughed at the way Gabi was celebrating for herself.
Reiner scanned the crowd, hoping to see his mom when his movements came to a halt. his eyes landed on you. he was at a stuck for words. you were beautiful to say the least. you were now a bit taller. grew into your figure a bit more and although he hadn’t spoken to you, a part of his heart ached hoping that within those years he was gone, you hadn’t found someone else.
Reiner knew it was a bit ridiculous to bank on that hope. he was gone for years and you were at home, probably gaining an education, meeting entirely new people and probably having people fall in love with you left and right but regardless, he still hoped that the feelings you had for him as a kid were still there all these years later.
you gave yourself a few minutes, deciding not to bother Reiner’s reunion with his mom and his close family. you had went to a nearby food stall for tea to keep yourself occupied.
“hi, can I order one medium tea please?” the man nodded, before turning quickly to make your tea. you tapped on the wood, anxiously waiting for your tea before deciding to see if it was okay to see Reiner, “here ya go,” the man said handing you the cup.
you reached into your bag for the money before you heard someone clear his throat. you turned around, wondering who it was that made that rude noise.
“I’ll pay for her.”
the man quickly discarded the charge, telling Reiner it was no charge for you if you were with him. Reiner nodded before the two moved so the next people in line could order.
“Vice Chief Braun.”
you had no idea what else to say. the two of you remained looking at each other for a while. finally, you let the best of you crawl up and embrace him in one of the tightest hugs you had ever did.
Reiner sighed, hugging back instantly, accidentally making your tea fall on the ground, spilling everywhere. the tea was your last thought as you hugged Reiner even tighter when you felt a few tears drop onto your button up shirt.
“I can’t believe you’re finally back,” you whispered to him, “you’ve grown so much Vice Chief Braun.”
he shook his head no, making you confused.
“it’s Reiner to you. it’s always been Reiner.”
you laughed, “of course Reiner,” you giggled. Reiner sighed, feeling a sense of normalcy in your voice and laugh, “I’m glad you still waited all these years for me,” Reiner whispered.
you looked at him in the eyes, seeing the teary gaze still in his eyes.
“when I told you to come back alive, that was my promise that I’d wait for you.”
Reiner nodded, instantly feeling the love he felt for you as kid rush back to you. the idea that you waited all these years for him and promised him and yourself that you wouldn’t bat an eye at another man until he returned was more than Reiner could ask for.
this time, Reiner cupped your cheek, a bit harsher than he intended and kissed you. you felt yourself yelp at the gesture before relaxing into the kiss. the kiss from back then felt like child’s play in comparison to now.
this kiss was blood, sweat, and tears in the making. Reiner was a lot more confident now compared to how he was back then as his arms instantly snaked around your waist to deepen it. your arms went around his neck, feeling Reiner’s tongue enter your mouth.
truth be told, you felt a bit weirded out to be so open with the kiss you were having but eventually, you heard Reiner’s cousin, Gabi scream for him. you pulled away from the kiss, Reiner now a bit sad that it had to be cut off.
“Reiner, your mom is looking for you! she wants you to know that dinner is going to be ready in an hour!”
she looked too Reiner before looking to you and smiling.
“you’re Reiner’s girlfriend, right? I like you!”
you were a bit taken back but nevertheless, you smiled and thanked her as she ran back to her friends and family.
“you’ll come to dinner, right?” he asked, “I’m not finished with you just yet.”
you could help but laughed, “of course. I became friends with your mom while you were gone so it shouldn’t be too weird,” you joked as Reiner locked his hand with yours before heading back to your place to reintroduce himself to your mom and siblings.

Ch1
“Oh, she’s beautiful,” David whispered, awestruck.
Tears filled his eyes as he looked through the door at his other True Love. The little girl sat cross legged on the bed and slowly turned a page of the book in front of her.
David stared, dumbfounded, as a firm resolve filled him.
“We can’t waste another second,” he stated, vehemently. “We can’t wait another second.” He took a step toward the door when Snow’s softly spoken wait stopped him. “What? What’s wrong?” he asked, looking at his wife.
Her eyes were glued to their daughter until they skittered away to their surroundings and the door in front of them. Anywhere but at him.
“We can’t go through there.”
David was stunned, incredulity coloring his features. “Snow, we have to.”
She continued as if she hadn’t heard him. “If we go through that door, Emma will never become the savior.”
He turned back to the open door. To his daughter. He was heartbroken. He knew exactly what Snow was thinking. If they went through that door, they condemned their subjects, their friends, their family, to live under Regina’s curse, separated from their own loved ones, forever. But that couldn’t be true. Rumplestiltskin said to keep the child safe and she would return on her 28th birthday. No mention was made about the circumstances of her return, only that she would.
“She’ll have a new destiny.” He looked at Snow again. “With us. We will teach her. We will tell her everything. And when her 28th birthday arrives, we’ll all come back and she will break the curse.”
Snow’s tear filled eyes finally turned to him. “How do you know?”
“This family finds each other. We’ve found each other,” he said, taking her hands. He tilted his head slightly toward the open door, “We’ve found Emma. We will find the rest of our family when it’s time for her to break the curse.”
He saw the moment doubt was swallowed up by hope in her eyes. With a small nod and a smile, they turned and walked through the door.
Together.
~*~*~*~
18 years later
Emma Swan sat in the back seat of the family SUV with her brother Leo as they sped through the backwoods of rural Maine toward an uncertain and possibly perilous future. It was her 28th birthday and it was the day that her parents had been preparing her for ever since they came through the closet door to claim her so long ago.
The scenery outside her window went hazy around the edges as she got lost in the memory of the first time she met her parents. She hadn’t been frightened when these two strangers entered her bedroom through her closet door. Something about them seemed familiar. She knew in her marrow that she could trust them and when the woman fell to her knees with tears in her eyes, her arms open wide, and calling her name, Emma hadn’t hesitated to run into them. She rose to her feet with Emma held tightly in her arms, sobbing into her hair and placing kisses all over her face. Emma only caught snippets of what the woman was saying, but the words I’m your mom, I love you, we’ll never leave you, we’ll always be together sent Emma’s heart soaring. It was exactly what this little lost girl had always longed to hear. The man wrapped one arm around them both and cupped the back of her head with the other. She had never felt so safe and loved in all her life.
Now all these years later, it was time to fulfill her destiny. It wasn’t long after their reunion that they settled in Portland, Maine and her parents told her a story. A story through the pages of the book that her mother had brought through the door with her. A story that was more than just a fantasy. It was true. All of it. It was their story. It was her story. The story of where she came from… and what she was meant to do. Beginning with the day she was born, her parents told her why they had to get her to safety. How Doc of the Seven Dwarves delivered her only minutes before her father placed her in the magical wardrobe and the queen’s curse swept over the land. From there, they told her the true story of how Snow White and Prince Charming met and fell in love - very different from the Disney version - her mother’s history with the Evil Queen and how her father came to be in the position to even meet his True Love. She’d become intimately familiar with all the true stories in the book as she grew up, first her, then her brother Leo, and now it was time for her to save them all. She had to admit to being rather nervous about it. It was one thing to hear the story from her parents and believe it because of how young she was and because she trusted them. But it was entirely different to be a grown woman and solely responsible for bringing back all the happy endings for real people that her parents knew and loved. She was about to see everything from the storybook come to life.
Suddenly, her mother’s excited voice from the front seat roused her from her musings.
“There it is, David!” she exclaimed. “The town line!”
“I see it, I see it,” he replied.
Moments later, they crossed the town line and a chill passed over Emma’s entire body before something exploded out of her that nearly made her dad lose control of the car.
“What the hell was that?” Emma cried as her mom and brother shouted in alarm. She reached toward Leo’s shoulder while her other hand tried to find purchase on the door handle as her dad brought the car back under control. She looked out the window and saw a white shimmering something traveling across the sky toward the town. She saw her mom, dad, and brother craning their necks to see it too.
“I think…” her mom began, “that you just broke the curse, honey.”
“That’s it?” she asked, incredulous. “Just crossing the town line? That was all it took?”
“Apparently so,” her dad answered. “But that doesn’t mean we don’t still have to be on our guard.” His grip on the steering wheel tightened and his brow furrowed. “We don’t know what we’re going to find when we get to town. Regina and the Dark One are presumably still here somewhere.”
Silence reigned as they continued to drive toward the center of town in the direction of the white blast. A few minutes later, they turned onto the main street of the small town. Filling the street in front of them, people were laughing and hugging each other in reunions that were 28 years overdue. Her dad slammed on the brakes as her mom cried out, her hands flying to her mouth.
“Ruby! Granny!” She bolted from the car and ran toward a leggy brunette and older matronly woman. Emma could see the surprised joy on their faces as they turned and ran toward her mother. Emma and Leo got out slowly as their dad ran toward his wife as she embraced the two women. They approached the reunited and happy foursome just as seven men got their mom’s attention. Wide grins broke out on Emma and Leo’s faces as realization came over them. Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Emma could hear her mom’s sobs as she tried to embrace them all at once. Once she’d finished greeting her dearest and oldest friends, her mom turned toward them.
“Everyone,” she began, “these are our children.” Her mom motioned them closer. “Emma and Leo.” Her brother suddenly looked quite different from the brash and bold teenager she knew. He looked equal parts dumbfounded and like he’d like to melt into the ground. Her father didn’t miss a beat. He grabbed his son’s shoulder and started introducing him individually to the dwarves, placing his arm around him.
“Emma?” asked Granny, drawing her attention again. “The Savior?” The old woman took steps toward Emma and tenderly cupped her face with her hands before kissing her on the cheek and drawing her into a hug. Emma knew the elderly woman from the storybook, but to be held in her arms in love and acceptance was nearly as good as the hug she received from her parents when they came for her.
“Papa,” another man further up the street shouted. He ran toward an older man that was walking toward the group with the aid of a cane.
The man turned, his face infused with disbelieving joy as the cane dropped and he took a hesitant step toward the other man. “Bae?”
Emma could feel the tears forming in her eyes as the men embraced each other. She had done this. She was the savior and she had given all these people the happy endings that the Evil Queen had taken away all because she refused to place the blame for the death of her love where it truly belonged. She turned back toward the crowd again as more reunions were taking place. She saw her parents embracing a red haired man with a dalmatian. Jiminy Cricket, she remembered.
Just at that moment, a joyous cry reached their ears and they all turned toward the sound. A young woman with wild brown hair and wearing nothing more than a dirty white shift ran toward the still embracing men as she launched herself into the older man’s arms and kissed him. A rainbow blast burst from them startling everyone gathered. They separated as the blast flew through the air and yet also concentrated around the man. The young woman’s eyes grew wide as the rainbow light grew brighter and brighter around him before finally fading away to nothing. The man had tears running down his cheeks as he reached for the young woman again. Emma watched her melt into his arms and could just hear him murmur, “Belle. It’s gone. You saved me.” The kiss they shared made Emma’s cheeks flame as she turned toward her dad.
“Huh,” he said. “Rumplestiltskin has a True Love. Who would have thought that?”
The couple separated again and the man she now knew was Rumplestiltskin, the practitioner of the darkest magic in the realm, the man that she had always thought of as the puppet master, since he seemed to have a part in every single story in the book, gathered both the young woman and the younger man to him as the three made their way toward their own group.
“Dark One,” her dad greeted the man with a curt nod.
“No more,” he answered, raising his chin just a bit. “Belle’s True Love’s Kiss just destroyed the Darkness. With my son here, I was ready to let go of the Darkness and find my happiness with my family beside me.”
Then a stately woman in a nun’s habit approached them.
“Your highnesses,” she began with a bow, “the curse is indeed broken. As is the Darkness that made the Dark One.”
Her dad reached out and placed a hand on the woman’s shoulder. “Blue,” he said. “Thank you.” He turned back toward the crowd and raised his voice in an exuberant shout. “The curse is broken and the Darkness is no more!” The gathered crowd cheered along with him. Emma wiped away her tears and met the eyes of the man that had embraced the former Dark One. His eyes twinkled as he grinned broadly at her. She felt her heart rate increase and cheeks flush again as she turned her eyes back toward her parents.
It was moments later when she felt a presence at her back. She turned around and found herself captured by a pair of laughing brown eyes.
“Neal,” he said, holding his hand out for her to shake. He squeezed his eyes shut and shook his head as if a sudden headache had come over him. “Baelfire. Neal Cassidy was my cursed name. But you can call me whatever you want.” He smiled again.
She took his hand and smiled back. “Emma,” she replied. “It’s nice to meet you, Neal.”
She could see her mom and brother over Neal’s shoulder exchange a stern and sheepish look. She knew that Leo, at 17, would love nothing more than to tease her about the man in front of her, but thankfully, their mother caught his eye before he could. She rolled her eyes at them before directing her attention back to him.
“Uh, thanks,” he said, “for uh, breaking the curse.” She couldn’t help but smile wider at his clumsy attempts to make small talk.
“You’re welcome?” she answered, with a shrug. “I mean, I didn’t really do anything, just crossed the town line…” she trailed away.
“But, I m-mean,” he stammered, “it was more than that. You…” he shrugged helplessly, apparently at a loss for what to say next. “Listen,” he said, brightening, “Could I show you around town? Maybe buy you a cup of coffee?”
Emma grinned widely. “I’d like that.” She looped her arm through his and he led her away from the rest of the crowd.

How To Train Your Dragon Saga
In the beginning, I was never really interested in watching the movie and never even bothered to watch the trailer, since we thought it was one of those cliche failure movies (and Dreamworks hasn't really had a very good track record of good animated movies at the time), but after being bombarded with tons of Toothcup fanfics and fanarts and after very high recommendations by my friend Jello13 from dA, I finally got down to watching the movie. Boy, was I glad I took my friend's recommendation to watch this movie, and the subsequent sequels after that, because after 3, 4 friggin' times, I still fucking LOVE this movie!!!
Here's my findings of the saga:
Apparently this movie was based on a children's novel written by Cressida Cowell which focuses on the 2nd book in a 10-volume book franchise. There are certain deviations between the real Hiccup and Toothless and the storyline as a whole, but after reading the summary of the original story, I think I like the movie version better. In fact even the writer said so in her blog that she likes the deviation as the movie captured the core essence of her story and it was amazing to see her story to be interpreted this way.
The storyline and the pacing is very good, and the sarcastic humour and slight optimism of Hiccup despite people thinking he's anything BUT a Viking is very intriguing. I love his catchphrases like "I'm way too muscular for their tastes. They wouldn't know what to do with all...this" and "Thank you for summing that up" and his famous line "You just gestured to ALL of me!" is just some of the LOL-worthy lines the talented Jay Baruchel who voices Hiccup does.
I was totally shocked to find out that Gerard Butler plays the role of Stoick, Hiccup's old man! I have never expect him, who is known for his brawniness and action-packed persona, made famous in the movie 300, would actually play a voice-over for a cartoon character. After finding out, spotting his voice and hearing the familiarity was much, much easier.
And of course, the creme de la creme of the entire movie: TOOTHLESS!! He is just so, so, so, soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo uber cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute~~~~!!!!! When I read about him in fanfics and caught glimpses of him through fanarts, I was thinking, "Hey, this dragon is quite cute." Now amplify that feeling by a gajillion times more. That's how I feel about Toothless. He started off a little vicious with his snake-like slit for eyes, trying to act strong and tough like the dragon he was, but the moment he let his guard down a little, he got these pair of big doe eyes that is just so MOE and SQUEE-worthy. And of course I finally learn how he got his namesake: with retractable teeth that he can materialize at will
My most favourite scene of the entire movie would be this scene where Toothless finally was at peace with Hiccup and allowed him to touch him. The way Toothless tried to copy his drawing, and then growled whenever Hiccup stepped on his drawing, then Hiccup moved to avoid the lines in tune with the music until finally they were so close they were allowed to touch was just so AWW-worthy. And the music score was perfect too, especially the title of that score: Forbidden Friendship. Isn't that just sweet?
The part where Hiccup and Toothless slowly develop that bond while trying to get Toothless back on his flight feet again was also very interesting as they slowly worked together and forget each other's differences to reach a common goal, while at the same time trying to learn about each other, and Hiccup using that knowledge to good use (the eel and the scratching of the neck part was really epic), making him the life of the team, much to his crush, Astrid's chagrin.
I also love the part where Hiccup tries to convince everyone during the final exam of killing a dragon that dragons are not what they think they are, and tried to pacify the Monstrous Nightmare only to be interrupted by Stoick and having Toothless coming to the rescue (damsel in distress much, Hiccup? XD) and revealed their relationship. It felt really sad and my heart just broke when Hiccup shouted Toothless for him not to kill Stoick and Toothless looked at him with his doe eyes, then Hiccup tries in vain to stop everyone from hurting Toothless, and that argument which led to his disowning, and earning back his role as a son by proving his worth and Toothless' reputation, though a cost of his leg. I was wondering where would be the scene where he looses his leg, since I read that he had a prosthetic in fanfics, but turns out it happened in the near end of the movie, and literally mirrored Toothless' missing left tail fin.
Ending is a bit cliche where he gets the girl, he is lauded as a war hero and gained the respect of everyone including his father, the dragons made peace with humans and all that, but still it was a very heartwarming cliche scene. One that leaves a smile on your face and a sigh of contentment in your heart.
Speaking of Astrid, not really sure it's because of that yaoi in me, but I never really saw Astrid as a suitable pairing for Hiccup. I know, I'm not usually one for bestiality, but seriously, can't you just FEEL the love between Hiccup and Toothless to the point where you can consider them as lovers? Toothcup (Toothless/Hiccup) pairings are in the rage right now since the movie has been uber popularize, and you cannot deny that sort of relationship exist, right?
This one, personally I feel, is almost as par as the first one. Not better, not worse, but more or less par. Hiccup and Astrid are still together, but the Toothcup shipper in me just don't feel like they match somehow. Moreso, suddenly out of the blue, Snotlout and Fishlegs were heads over heels with Ruffnut, which I ABSOLUTELY have NO CHEMISTRY feel whatsoever! Even after I've watched their TV series that led to the second movie, I STILL don't get the vibe or the chemistry between those three people. It's like "Wait, what?" moment.
Although that moment when Ruffnut was just totally thirsty for Eret was absolutely hilarious though. I couldn't help laughing and cringing at the same time.
When the moment Hiccup's mom Valka showed up, I was not expecting her to be so... skinny. Stoick said that he made helmets out of Hiccup's mom's breast plate, and it seemed pretty big, but looking at her, she didn't look like someone who was close to being a big bosom woman, but what is continuity anyways? LOL Though Hiccup definitely has inherited her knack for dragons. Guess it's in the blood after all.
I teared up a little when Stoick died, and I felt so bad that their bromance was threatened by this, but thankfully Hiccup still loves Toothless and is willing to forgive him and try to bring him back to his side. Goes to show how deep their bond is, and Toothless ended up becoming the Alpha Dragon was one of the most epic moments in the whole movie.
It also kinda interesting that Hiccup has somehow became pretty hot in this movie. Was pretty surprised at how he transformed from the awkward tiny little runt of a boy to a strapping man LOL
Plot feels similar to the 2nd one, but the ending was so so SO bittersweet. A fitting ending, but sweet yet painful for me to watch.
My heart broke at the scene wen Hiccup was complaining about Toothless being in love n said "Am I not enough?" and I was like internally screaming "YES! U ARE ENOUGH!! U TWO ARE ENOUGH!! FUCK THAT LIGHT FURY!!"
Throughout the courtship scene btwn Toothless and the Light Fury i was like internally screaming "NO, SHE'S A TRAP! SHE'S A FUCKING TRAP! HICCUP, WHY ARE YOU OKAY WITH THIS?! I'M NOT HAPPY WITH THIS! I AM NOT OKAY WITH THIS!!"
I cried like a fucking baby, especially at the end of the movie. It was like I knew it was happening, that they were gonna break up, but I was in denial, then when Toothless hugged Hiccup goodbye, I lost it, waterworks all over. In fact, waterworks all the way to the end at their final reunion ugly-cried like a fucking baby.
It did ended perfectly; perfectly bittersweet and perfectly heartbreaking and I was like "This is it. It's official. It's over. My Toothcup ship has fucking sank!!"
Fuck you, DreamWorks, you have killed my bromance!! Gahh!! I hate and love this movie at the same time!

The Past Catches Up With You
OUAT Peter Pan Imagine
Prompt: “I know what I have to do. But going back means I’ll have to face my past. I’ve been running from it for so long” & “Once you’re grown up, you can never come back.”
The sound if arrows flying through the air then hitting their target and the clashing of swords filled the area. “Nice one, Devin. Now try letting go of the arrow when you breath out,” you instructed one of the Lost Boys. Devin wordlessly nodded and did what you told him, his arrow hitting the target dummy straight in the head. “Excellent work. Rufio, don’t do such fancy moves. It’s about hitting the target in the weak points, not showing off,” you commanded. “Whatever you say, mom,” Rufio sassed, ignoring your helpful tips. You narrowed your eyes at him and strode up to him, quickly knocking him off his feet with a few well placed punches and kicks. “And this is why Pan ordered me to train you boys. You guys are good fighters, but he wants the best, so you either listen to what I say or you’ll end up worse than this,” you scolded the dazed teen. You walked away, towards Pan’s second-in-command, and one of your best friends, Felix.
“Nice way to show them who’s boss, (y/n),” Felix complemented as he sharpened his sword. “Thanks, Felix. These boys have sure have authority problems when it comes to someone other than Pan giving them orders,” you said, sitting next to Felix on a log. “They listen to me, though,” Felix pointed out. “True. I have theory that they don’t respect me as much cause I’m the only girl here. And I happen to be one of Pan’s most trustworthy,” you told the scar-faced teen. “It’s possible. The boys aren’t too keen on newcomers. You being a girl doesn’t make matters better.” You rolled your eyes; you’ve been here for a couple of years, but time on Neverland was different than everywhere else. “I’ve earned this position despite being a girl. They should know that Pan doesn’t just trust me without a proper reason,” you said, crossing your arms in front of your chest. “Speak of the devil,” Felix said, motioning his head towards a figure appearing from the green foliage.
Peter Pan stood to the side of the training ground, eyes intensely watching the boys as they practiced archery, swording fighting, and sparring. Authority and dark magical power radiated from his figure, his green eyes glowing as they seemingly stared into the very existence of his Lost Boys. He was expressionless as he mentally noted what the boys were doing wrong and right. The sight before you made you feel warm, but you tried not to show how the piper affected you. Said boy locked eyes with you, a smirk breaking out onto his lips as he strode over to you. “Tired, love. Are the boys too much for you to handle?” he teased, raising one magnificently sculpted eyebrow. “More like they can’t handle me. Rufio over there is still bandaging his hurt pride when I knocked him to the ground for back talking,” you chuckled, eyeing said boy. He was grumpily pouting on a wooden log across from where you were. Peter found this rather amusing, a sly smirk on his face. “His loss, love. Come, I think the boys had enough training for today,” he said, getting up from the log. He whistled loudly, getting all the, boys attention and told them, “Alright, boys training’s over! Get back to camp if you want your fill of dinner before its gone!”
A stampede of hungry, teenage boys rushed towards the main camp, dirt and dust flying as they did so. You camly got up and followed the horde of Lost Boys, used to their frenzied antics. Peter walked alongside you, as you took your time walking the path back to the main camp. “I’m still surprised you can put up with our rowdiness. Being a princess and all, I’d expect you complain endlessly about how ‘wild’ we are,” Peter said as you traveled through the jungle of Neverland. “Hey, I was a rebel princess. If I wasn’t, I wouldn’t even be here,” you defended yourself, punching the King of Neverland playfully, but hard, in the arm. Pan allowed you to hit him, as you knew he could easily stop you, and playfully cried out in pain.
Before you were the first Lost Girl on Neverland, you were a princess, although not first in line to inherit your kingdom. Unlike the other inhabitants of Neverland, you were not from the Enchanted Forest or the Land Without Magic. You were a princess from another dimension, and you hated your royal roots. You hated the stuffy dresses, the countless rules, the strict and stone faced members of the royal house ... hell, you couldn’t even talk to or hang out with anyone that wasn’t humanoid or a royal non-humanoid from an allied kingdom. Like the monsters that were repressed by your people. It was suffocating and you didn’t conform to your families strict ideals.
As such, your family finally had enough of your “rebelliousness” and decided to send you off to an institution know for “correcting” wayward princesses. You, in turn, had enough of royalty and fled your home without a word, seeking out the freedom you dearly longed for. Eventually, you found your way to Neverland, encountering Pan and his Lost Boys, who met your arrival with them encircling you with weapons drawn, aimed to kill. The only reason you were still alive today was that you were able to hear Pan’s flute, meaning you were lost, and therefore part of the Lost Boys. It took awhile for everyone to trust you, especially Pan, but it happened and you were never felt more like you were home.
Back to the present, you and Peter finally reached the main camp, a raging bonfire going on in the middle of the layout of tents and huts. The boys were either chowing down or were dancing to the beat of the drums. Peter left you to go include himself in the boys merry making as you grabbed a bite to eat. Grabbing a slice of meat from the day’s hunt, you silently greeted a few of the boys with a raise of your cup. The younger boys dragged you to sit with them, happily chatting away as they told you about their day.
Soon you were done with your meal and the music called to you. Like you were under a spell, you jumped into the frey of wildly dancing bodies, letting the music guide your movements. You danced freely with your fellow lost brothers, your mind focusing on the sound of the pan flute and the drums. As you danced around the fire, you saw Peter staring intensely at you with his green eyes, the light of the bonfire casting shadows across his face, intensifying the strikingness of his attractive features. You couldn’t help but keep his gaze as you danced, enjoying the way he was looking at you with such intensity, an undistinguishable emotion flowing in his eyes.
Unfortunately, the party was interrupted by a loud sound and a bright light. Everyone stopped in the middle of what they were doing, staring at a hole ripped into the fabric of space and time right near the center of the campgrounds. The portal seemed to shine brighter as two figures appeared from the other side of it. As they stepped through, the portal closed behind them, allowing you to see their features now that the unnatural brightness was gone. One of the figures was a teenage boy, characterized with tan skin, dark brown hair, and a mole on his right cheek. He was wearing red hoodie over a light grey shirt, dark grey skinny jeans, and olive/white sneakers on his slender build. His brown eyes eyed the Lost Boys nervously, his hand twitching over the hilt of the sword in his sheath. The other figure was a teenage girl with long blonde hair, light blue eyes, and fair skin. On her head, she wore a magenta headband with devil horns, paired with a green and mint collared short sleeved dress, pink and purple striped leggings, white boots with pink tips and a star on each heel, along with a black spider necklace. But the most astonishing part about the girl was the pink heart shaped marks she had on her cheeks.
Peter and the Lost Boys immediately surrounded the two newcomers, weapons pointed at them. “Who the hell are you and what are you doing on my island?” Peter growled. The boy immediately pulled out his sword and took a defensive stance. The girl on the other hand, raised her hands up and yelled, “Stop! We’re not here to hurt anyone! We’re just looking for someone!” Peter dismissed her claim, saying, “Whoever you are looking for is not here! Now leave before my boys and I make you wish you never stepped foot here!” The boy raised their weapons, slowly drawing closer to the new girl and boy. The girl now raised her up hands up and took a defensive stance, her hands glowing purple with magic.
Before any violence could come to a head, you shouted a command out to the Lost Boys and Peter, breaking the tense air. “Everyone put your weapons down!” you shouted, voice strong and dominating. The Lost Boys, confused by the order, slightly lowered their weapons and allowed you to walk through the crowd of them to the new visitors. As you showed yourself to the newcomers, the blonde haired girl’s eyes widened and her mouth dropped open in shock. “ (Y/n)?” the girl said. “Star,” you said breathlessly, unable to bite back the smile that made its way to your face. Star’s hands stopped glowing and she tackled you ina hug, which you gladly returned. “Um, what’s going on?” the hoodie wearing boy asked, completely clueless. “Marco, this is my cousin I told you about? I’m pretty sure I told you about my favorite family member,” Star explained, looking at her friend while still holding on you.
“Oh, isn’t this precious,” Pan sneered, interrupting the moment. “A family reunion. How wonderful that they’ve come to visit.” You decided to ignore Peter and his terrible attitude, continuing to talk to your four-years younger cousin. “How did you find me, Star? Neverland isn’t on any map and can’t be visited through ordinary means,” you asked. “I was able to use your old tiara to finding out what dimension you were in! Pretty cool right,” Star bragged a giant smile on her face. Before you could say another word, Peter got in between the two of you, creating a distance of a few feet. “Peter!” you exclaimed angrily. “What the hell?” “I don’t care that you’re her family. I want you off my island. (y/n) has already told me about the way you treated her and I don’t want someone like you here because of it,” he coldly told Star. “Hey, man, back off!” Star’s friend, Marco, yelled stepping in front of Star protectively. The Lost Boys didn’t like this, murder in their eyes as they crowded around you four, fingers itching to use their weapons. “Everyone stop! I don’t want any fighting!” you shouted, dreading for any blows coming to a head. The Lost Boys slightly calmed down, but they were still tense.
“Peter, Star was the only one in my family that I could be myself around. I see I rubbed off on you a bit,” you said. “You guys keep talking about our family as if they were abusive, keeping you locked up and so on,” Star pointed out. “I forget you were too young to understand at the time. Grandma Etheria and the rest of the Butterfly family constantly looked down at me, finding fault in everything I did. I didn’t dress right, talk right, sit right, walk right ... and they let me know. It practically destroyed my self-esteem. And to make matter worse, Grandma Etheria decided to send me to St. Olga’s,” you explained to your younger cousin. “Oh no, not St. O’s!” Star exclaimed in horror. “Please don’t tell me they tried to turn you into a mindless ‘perfect’ princess!” As she said this, she grabbed your forearms and shook you a bit. “Calm down, Star, I didn’t go to St. O’s. I left home before I was forcibly shipped off. I had a pair of dimension scissors and used them to hop from dimension to dimension until I eventually found my way here,” you continued, smiling when you reminisced about finding Neverland, your true home.
“I’m happy you found a place you could finally be yourself. If I wasn’t so desperate for your help, I wouldn’t even ask you this,” Star said. This worried you; what did she want you to do? Star quickly answered your question before you voiced it, saying, “I need you to come back to Mewni with me.” “What?!” you shouted, eyes wide and mouth agape. “I’m sorry, but I really need your help! My mom has disappeared and I can’t find her, the Butterfly castle and kingdom are destroyed by Eclipsa’s half-monster daughter and she escaped her crystal! I can’t do this on my own and everything is in disarray!” Star cried.
All this new information shocked you, making you stand there in silence. Peter decided to step in, angrily setting in Star’s face. “You might be royalty, but I’m the king here. I say who steps foot on and leaves my island. This includes (y/n). Since she’s lost, that means she belongs here and with me. Shfe’s mine, and she’s not going anywhere off this island,” he threatened. Star stood her ground, staring into his harsh green eyes that seemed to glow with dark power. “Then you don’t know (y/n), because she hates other people making choices for her.” She turned towards you and continues, saying, “(y/n), I’m sorry for our family treating you so terribly and I understand your reason for running away. But I still care for you and so does my mother, both of us missing you terribly when you left. If you still love us as much as we love you, I beg you to help me. I need you, my mom needs you, Mewni needs you!”
(y/n) could only stand there in silence, which Peter mistook for her not wanting to return to her home, while in reality she was pondering over her beloved cousin’s words. “Get off my island. I never want to see your faces again,” he threatened, before whistling loudly, causing the Lost Boys to snap into a a violent, wild frenzy. The area was quickly filled with the sounds of weapons clashing, cries of pain, and angry shouts as Star and Marco fought the Lost Boys. Luckily, Star and Marco were successfully able to defend themselves, despite being greatly outnumbered. Star’s voice filled the air as she shouted spells and Marco yelled as he used karate moves/defended himself with his sword. You tried yelling at both sides to stop fighting, but neither side listened to you, either not hearing you over all the noise or not caring enough to listen to you. This made you angry, so angry you used your magic to cast a powerful spell to end the violence.
Unlike Star, you didn't need to verbally say a spell to use your magic, simply sending out a wave of bluish-white magic to emit from your magically glowing figure. As the wave of magic hit the Lost Boys, Peter, Star, and Marco, they were enveloped into a quartz of crystal, frozen in place. You sighed as you stood past the crystal prisons of your fellow Lost Boys, stopping at Peter’s crystal, staring at his evil smirk on his face and the magic accumulated in his hands. “You just couldn’t wait and let me think for a moment could you, “ you said sadly. You used your magic to reverse the spell, and on Star and Marco as well. The three teens fell to the ground, gasping for breath. “I’m so sorry, guys. This was the only way to get you to stop fighting and listen to me,” you apologized, helping Star up first. “Was that the Crystal Imprisonment Spell that Rhombulas uses? Where did you learn it?” Star asked, amazed that you could do such advanced magic. “Glossaryck used to give me private lessons. He said that I needed to learn magic, too, in case something happens. But he wasn’t specific on what that was,” (y/n) explained. “That sounds like Glossaryck.”
You turned towards Peter as he growled, getting up from the ground and his green eyes trained on you. “You little ... How dare you use your magic on me!” he yelled, “Release the Lost Boys right now (y/n)!” “You left me no choice, Peter. You all were attacking my family and I couldn’t just stay by,” you said sternly, brows furrowed as you scolded him. “How can you defend them? They’re the main reason why you are on Neverland in the first place! Or haven’t you forgot that?” Pan seethed. “I haven’t forgotten what they did to me, Pan. But this just isn’t about my family anymore. My homeland is in danger and you’re wrong to think I’ll just sit around and watch shit hit the fan!” you yelled, turning around to walk away, thinking that was the end of it. But it wasn’t and Pan wanted to let you know it. “Oh really? Well, know this, princess, you’ll eventually be disappointed as nothing is going to change. You’ll still be the miserable, insecure, little girl you were when you came here, scrutinized by your family and your people,” Peter threatened, teeth clenched and pure hatred seeping from his pores.
You stopped, back still facing Peter. Said boy smirked, thinking he won this argument. But what you said surprised the male, saying, without looking at him, “I know what I have to do now, Peter. I know going back means I’ll have to face my past. I’ve been running from it for so long but I have to face it sooner or later. And I choose now.” Pan stood there shocked, mouth open a bit as he contemplated your words, and watched as Marco effortlessly opened a portal to another dimension with a pair of scissors, then entered the hole in the fabric of time and space while mumbling about ‘nachos,’ whatever that was. Star on the other hand, nervously looked behind her at Peter, seemingly contemplating if taking (y/n) away from her current home was a good thing, before regretfully entering the swirling portal.
Before the (h/c) haired girl followed the two, she turned her head to the side, looking at so called King of Neverland. “I promise I’ll come back as soon as I can, Peter, to my home, the Lost Boys, and you,” she said, so much raw emotion held in her eyes. But Peter didn’t care, only focussing on the frustration that took over his heart and mind. “I forbid you from leaving, (y/n)! When you leave this island, you’ll eventually grow up, and once you’re grown up, you can never come back!” he shouted angrily. (Y/n) physically flinched and quickly turned her head back towards the portal, trying not to show the tears in the corners of her eyes. “Goodbye, Peter. Until we meet again.” And with those words, she stepped through the portal and left Neverland, seemingly forever.
As the portal closed behind her, (y/n)’s magic seemed to leave with her, as the crystals imprisoning the Lost Boys started to melt, freeing them from their containment. Felix was the first to get his bearings, stroding over to Peter and placing a hand on his shoulder, said King of Neverland not tearing his eyes away from the spot in which (y/n) walked into the portal. “Pan, what happened? Where’s (y/n) and the other two?” Felix asked his fearless leader, a scowl on his scarred face. “She’s gone, Felix. She left Neverland,” Peter told his second-in-command emotionlessly.
Before the taller male could question him some more, the green-clad boy turned and walked away from the center of the campgrounds, towards his own private tent. Felix knew he was taking the Lost Girl’s departure harder than he let on. But he gave his trustful leader some space, allowing Peter to let his emotions loose in private. “(Y/n), I hope you know what you’re doing,” Felix said quietly to himself, before moving to help his fellow Lost Boys recover from the recent events.
~ Time Skip ~
“Again! I expect you to redo everything until you lot get this right! I have no excuse for weak, boys in my army of Lost Boys!” Peter seethed. It was several months, possibly a year, since (y/n) left Peter and Neverland. At first, Peter was angry, at (y/n) and her cousin, for leaving Neverland. Then, he was angry at himself for letting the Lost Girl leave, thinking he should have done everything he could from letting the girl leave. Eventually, Peter’s anger faded away and was replaced with a longing to see his favorite girl again. It was only until (y/n) left did Peter realize he felt something for the rebel princess, seeing her more as just another inhabitant of Neverland and a pawn in his games. And when he realized this non-platonic feelings, he regretted being so heartless to (y/n) before she left, hating himself for letting that be the last thing he ever said to the (h/c) haired girl.
Since (y/n) left Neverland, Peter changed, unfortunately for the worse. He was harsher and more cruel towards his Lost Boys and those that had the misfortune of being his enemy. All Pan cared for now was power, stopping at nothing to increase his magical strength by achieving immortality, regardless of the lives he had to take. And that meant he was setting in motion the events that would lead to taking the heart of the Truest Believer from a young boy to remain young forever.
Hence, the current intense training session the Lost Boys were doing, as Pan need them to be prepared for everything and anything, failure not being an option. “Who knew (y/n) leaving effect Pan this much? He’s been running us into the ground during training even since the girl left him,” Rufio mumbled to a couple of other Lost Boys. Pan heard this, and he did not like it. “What was that Rufio?” he snarled and turned towards the wise-cracking Lost Boy. Rufio’s face paled in fear as Pan strode towards him, his friends that once surrounded him nowhere to be seen, as they fled from Pan’s wrath.
The poor Lost Boy stood quaking in his boots as the King of Neverland stood in front of him, the slightly shorter leader wrapping a hand around Rufio’s throat, crushing his windpipe and preventing any air from reaching his lungs. Rufio gasped from breath as the other Lost Boys stood there in fear induced silence, unable to do anything but watch. “You’ve been mouthing off too much for my tastes. Looks like I’m going to have to put a stop to it permanently,” Peter growled. He shoved his hand into his chest, fingers wrapping around the boys heart. “Please, no...” Rufio pleaded.
Pan was just about to rip the boys heart out of his chest and then crush it to dust, when a loud noise and bright light shook the camp site. Everyone turned their heads to the sky, where a giant multicolored portal hung just below the treetops. Something or someone, came out of it, falling to the ground, and the portal closed violently with a loud bang. Peter and the Lost Boys were unable to do anything, as the figure got up from the ground and their features finally revealed by the light of the fire. (H/c) locks framed a (face shape) face, (e/c) eyes looking over everything as a bright smile broke out on the female’s (thin/plump) lips.
Felix was the first to break the silence, calling out the name of the person. “(y/n)? Is that really you?” the second-in-command asked, shocked that the girl had finally returned to Neverland. “Yeah, it's me,” the former Lost Girl replied a smile on her face. Felix immediately caught the girl in a hug, picking up the (much/slightly) shorter girl in his excitement. It seemed the spell was broken, as the Lost Boys immediately started moving towards the former Lost Girl, chatter filling the silence.
“Welcome back, (y/n),” Felix said to the girl, after he pulled away from her. “It’s great to be back,” (y/n) replied, her face so full of light and joy. Her (e/c) eyes caught Peter’s, causing the girl to stare straight into the piper’s eyes. He was stunned; here she was, the girl Peter has been obsessing over ever since she left, popping out of the blue, acting as if she never left in the first place. Their longing glaze was broken by a younger Lost Boy tugging on (y/n)’s hand, her attention turning towards the little one. “(Y/n), will you be staying here? Please don’t leave us again,” he said, his voice honey sweet and blue eyes looking at the (h/c) girl with pleading eyes. “Don’t worry, Jack,” (y/n) said, lowing herself so she could be eye level with the young boy. “I won’t be leave you.”
She rose to her full height and announced with a loud voice, “In fact, I will never have to leave Neverland again. From this moment forward, this island will be my forever home!” The campsite erupted in cheers and howls, all the Lost Boys loudly showing their approval. “If that’s the case then, let’s celebrate! To our one and only Lost Girl!” Felix cheered. As if it wasn’t already possible, the boys got even louder, happily cheering at the chance to party. Peter could only stare on wordlessly, as (y/n) was swept away by several Lost Boys, losing his sight on the magnificent girl.

The Lost Boys howled in delight as the drums were banged and the fire in the center of the campsite crackled. Peter watched from the side lines as they danced wildly. But his gaze was focused on one very special dancer. His green eyes followed (y/n), watching every move of her limbs and bend of her body as she danced without a care in the world. She was one with the music as she her body followed the rhythm of the drums. Peter’s eyes caught (y/n)’s (e/c) ones, everything around him seeming to slow down as did so.
He immediately tore his gaze away from her, pretending to be watching Felix wrestle some unfortunate soul into the dirt ground. In the corner of his eye, he saw (y/n) stop her lively dancing and steadily make his way towards him. Peter felt his breath get caught in his chest as she came closer, but was able to calm himself down before (y/n) got close enough to notice the effect she had on him.
“Enjoying the party?” she asked him, leaning against the bark of a tree next to him. “Of course. I enjoy seeing my boys let loose for once. The drinks help a bit, too,” he replied, gesturing towards the wooded cup in his hand. (Y/n) gazed out at rowdy group of wild teenage boys in front of her, a closed-mouth smile on her face. “I missed this. The freedom, how carefree everything is, not having any responsibilities,” she admitted. “You missed all of this? Even Rufio’s attitude?” he asked, surprised.
(Y/n) let out a short laugh, music to Peter’s ears. “Is it so surprising I missed my home. There wasn’t a day where I didn’t long to come back here and just let loose,” (y/n) continued, (e/c) eyes glowing in the firelight as she stared out at the wild party goers. It was silent for a little bit, a hint of awkwardness in the air. “So, um, what exactly happened back on Meowy?” Peter spoke up, desperately trying to break the silence. “Mewni. And so much happened. Everything has changed. And I couldn’t be happier,” (y/n) explained, a smile on her face as she reminisced. “Tell me about it. I’ve never heard of it before.”
“Well, I won’t go into the long and detailed history, I’m sure you wouldn’t want to hear about that. But I will tell you that Mewni is now unified between its people and the kingdom is in the hands of its true queen,” (y/n) explained as shortly as she could. “Well, that’s good,” Peter replies. A pregnant pause filled the air, until Peter thankfully broke it. “Is what you said before actually true?” he asked, voice barely above a whisper. “What?” you question, thinking you misheard him. “You said would never leave Neverland again? Was that true? Or was that just something you said that was in spur of the moment?” Peter continued. In the back of his mind, he couldn’t believe what she was true. Why would she want to stay here and be with me? he thought. Especially after how I treated her the last time I saw her. “Peter,” (y/n) said softly. “I was serious when I said that. Nothing will make me leave Neverland and you guys again.”
Peter felt his heart stop for moment, in disbelief at what she just told him. (Y/n) turned her kind gaze away from looking down at her hands folded in her lap. “Besides, it’s not like I can return home anyway,” she said softly. “Wait, what?” Peter thought he heard wrong. “It’s no big deal. You already know I never saw Mewni as my home. Neverland is my home. When the chance came for me to spend forever in my homeworld or spend forever here, I made my choice,” she explained nonchalantly. Peter could only open his mouth wide in shocked silence. He never thought she would such a thing. Give up her family and everything she known just to be with for him and the Lost Boys. It was almost insane.
“You really did all of that? Even after what I said to you before you left?” Peter gaped. “I’m sorry ... for what I said by the way. I wasn’t thinking straight and -” “Wow, the Peter Pan apologizing. To little old me,” (y/n) teased a goofy smile on her face. “Don’t make fun of me. You know I’m don’t ever apologize ” Peter pouted. (y/n) giggled, forcing a hidden smile to make its way to Peter’s lips. “I missed you, you know. Can you believe that?” Peter admitted, trying to hide his warming cheeks. (y/n) was astonished at his confession.“You really missed me? I thought you would have forgotten about me.” “I would never. There wasn’t a day I didn’t think about you,” Peter continued, gently taking the girl’s hands into his. (Y/n) looked down their combined hands, cheeks red at the feeling of Peter’s warm hands. “I did, too. The thought of Neverland and you kept me going. You were my reason to keep fighting, so one day I would be able to return to you.”
Peter gently placed his fingertips under her chin, directing her downcast eyes to look at him. “(Y/n) ...” he trailed off. He didn't know what he was going to say, his eyes flicking to her luscious soft lips. Peter couldn’t help but subconsciously darted his tongue out to wet his own, longing to meet them with hers. His hand trailed to cup her cheek, enjoying the site of her reddening skin under his rough fingertips. (Y/n)’s luminous (e/c) orbs nervously flew to look back at him, her breathing hitching in her throat. He watched her for a moment, looking for any indication that she was uncomfortable. But there was none, so Peter slowly inched closer, stopping until there was little more than an inch between them. He heart stopped as (y/n) closed the distance between them, the organ soaring at the feeling of her luscious lips on his own. Peter felt her wrap her hands around his neck loosely, his other hand moving to grip tightly to (y/n)’s hip. He could taste the Neverberries from the juice she had before, along with a specific taste he couldn’t quite identify. But he couldn't get enough it, shown by him adding more pressure into the kiss. (Y/n) reacted positively, fingers gripping onto the hairs at the base of his neck, a little mewl coming from her lips as she relaxed into his hold. Peter was just about to kick it up a notch when they were rudely interrupted.
“Hey, lovebirds! Get a tent will ya?” Felix shouted from across the campfire, hands cupped over his mouth and announcing the scene to everyone. (Y/n) was the first to pull away, face red as the Lost Boys howling once they noticed what their leader and Lost Girl were doing. “Shut up all of you!” Peter hollered at the boys. He was just about to teach them all a lesson when he felt (y/n) lean her head onto his chest. He looked down she was hiding her face in his shirt in embarrassment, the sight causing his heart pang in pity. “Peter, let’s go somewhere else. Please,” (y/n) quietly pleaded. “Alright, dear. Let’s head back to my tent. I still want to be with my favorite Lost Girl,” he whispered in her ear, placing a kiss on her forehead. Peter wrapped an arm around the girl’s waist and gently led her away from the center of camp. The Lost Boys started cheer and make lewd comments, which Peter when stopped at the entrance of his private abode, (y/n) continuing on inside without him. “Not another word from any you, or else I’ll be locking you in the cages for a week!” he threatened, glaring at them with darkness in his eyes. The boys shut up, knowing their leader was serious as they avoided eye contact. “Felix, knock up into shape if anything happens.” The second-in-command smirked, giving Peter a quick wink. The green-clad boy ignored it, heading inside and back to the beautiful girl waiting for him. (y/n) was laying on his fur-covered bed, patiently waiting for him. Peter sighed and crawled next to her, pulling her into arms once he was comfortable. He snuggled into neck, placing soft kisses onto her exposed neck. “Stay with, darling. I want you in my arms tonight,” Peter pleaded, already feeling his eyes close in bliss. “With you. Always.”

I’m From Brooklyn, Too ~ Proud
OUT OF TIME MASTERLIST
I’M FROM BROOKLYN, TOO MASTERLIST
Word Count: 890ish
Summary: Tony has a reunion with people in the Soul Realm.
Notes: You must read Out Of Time in order to understand this. This is a one shot that goes with the story. Must read chapter 143 to understand this.
He was home. And yet, he wasn’t. There was a strange orange tint to everything, the same color as that damn Stone he sacrificed himself for. Standing outside, Tony noted that everything about his house, the whole area, was the same. Except it wasn’t.
There was no Morgan yelling and laughing and running about. There was no visitors like Happy, Rhodey, and Pepper. There was no Y/N laughing and trying her best not to be amused about how much her daughter was like Tony. There was a sense of calm and peacefulness, but it would never mean anything to Tony without his family there.
Tony sighed, turning around to study the place. The Soul Realm. The Afterlife. He didn’t feel like going inside just yet. Not wanting the reality of the situation to fully set in. As he walked towards the body of water, he noticed an action figure. He picked it up and, upon closer inspection, realized it was an action figure of himself. Taking another step forward, he stepped on another one.
“Hey!” A young voice cried out. “Watch where you’re stepping!”
Tony turned around, eyebrow raised in curiosity. There was a little boy, probably no older than ten, standing not too far off. His brows were furrowed and his arms were folded. The boy was not pleased. Tony was frozen though in his place as he took the boy in. The little boy was the perfect mix of himself and Y/N. You could clearly see who his parents were.
The boy smirked. “What? Didn’t think I’d have any action figures of my old man?” The boy joked.
“AJ?” Tony breathed out.
“Hey, dad,” AJ smiled.
Tony’s legs couldn’t move fast enough. He ran and slid onto his knees, landing in front of his son. He pulled him into a bone crushing hug, which AJ equally returned. Tears were trickling out of the corners of Tony’s eyes as he pulled himself back to hold his son’s face in his hands, committing every inch of it to memory.
“Are you okay?” Tony worried.
“Am I okay?” AJ responded. “You’re the one who just willingly fell off a cliff to their death.”
Tony chuckled. “True. It’s just… it’s so nice to finally meet you.”
“It’s nice to meet you too.”
“You’re just…. You’re perfect. Just like your sister.”
“Oh no he’s not!” A man’s voice called out from the porch of the house. “That boy got the perfect mix of you and Y/N in too many ways!”
Tony stood and looked towards the house to see Phil Coulson coming their way.
“Phil,” Tony gave a small smile. He reached out his hand as Phil neared. “Thank you,” he said as Phil took his hand. “Thank you for taking care of him.”
“Anything for you and Y/N,” Phil responded. “But mostly Y/N. Besides, he’s a good kid when he’s not getting into trouble. I did have some help though.”
Phil looked back to the porch, drawing Tony’s attention there too. There on the porch stood Y/N’s parents and his own.
“Ma and Pa have been longing to meet you!” AJ exclaimed. “Though… this is definitely not how they wanted it to go.”
“Me either, kid,” Tony mumbled, eyes glued to his own parents.
“Come on,” AJ tugged Tony’s arm, “let’s go!”
AJ tugged Tony towards the porch. Phil followed slowly behind, noting that Tony was in a dazed state. Sarah Rogers was the first one down the steps, wrapping Tony in a hug.
“Thank you,” she whispered.
“For what?” Tony responded.
“For taking care of our daughter.” Sarah pulled away. “You were there for her when she needed people the most. Thank you.”
“Of course. I will always love Y/N and do anything I can for her and our family.”
Joseph Rogers reached out a hand, Tony took it. “You’re a good man, Stark,” Joseph said.
“No,” Howard interrupted, him and Maria coming closer. “He’s a great one.”
Joseph and Sarah stepped aside to allow Howard and Maria through. Howard stopped in front of Tony and reached out to shake his son’s hand. Timidly, Tony accepted it. Howard quickly pulled him into an embrace.
“I am so proud of you,” Howard whispered.
Tony was speechless. And before he could really comprehend what his father had said, Maria was in front of him, hugging him tightly.
“Hi, mom,” Tony breathed out.
Maria pulled away and cupped her son’s cheek. There were tears glistening in her eyes. “We are so very proud of you,” she said.
“Oh dad!” AJ exclaimed. “There’s someone else here to see you too!”
“Oh?” Tony turned to face his son. “And who could that be?”
“Mr. Stark,” a voice called from behind him.
Tony inhaled sharply before slowly turning around. There, not too far from him, was Yinsen. The man who saved his life back in Afghanistan.
“Yinsen,” Tony said, with a smile.
“I’m glad to see you didn’t waste your life, Stark,” Yinsen responded, smiling back.
“Thank you.”
AJ suddenly wrapped his arms around Tony. Tony quickly leaned down to hug him too. This is all he wanted, was so be with family. Be at peace, at rest. Now he only hoped that the rest of his family could fix everything and find that too.
I appreciate all likes, comments, asks, and reblogs! Thank you for all the positive support!

[L&N] Jesse’s Main Storyline - Reunion
🍒 Warning: Contains detailed spoilers from Chapter 8 of the main storyline of Light and Night 🍒
Previous section: here
He’s Jesse? But the youth who was with me that day-
Staring blankly at the clean and clear face, my heart thumps heavily. That’s right. Those eyes are stubborn and bright.
Jesse: There’s something unique about MC’s designs. She likes drawing four-sided stars. You could compare it with her earlier drafts. It’d be clear at a glance who copied whom.
But this is a little secret between me and my grandmother. No one else would-
I’m in a daze. I’m basically a dummy.
One other person knows about it. Someone who was almost forgotten with time.
I stare at him in disbelief, and have the illusion that this is a game of hide-and-seek which has been going on for seven years.
This instance is akin to a movie scene. The years accelerate in reverse, each frame filled with memories engraved on my heart.
-
Him at 13 years old: What kind of adults do you think we’d become next time? I really want to travel to the future and have a look.
-
Him at 11 years old: Since you gave me Chinese tuition, I’ll reluctantly go to the same junior high school as you and teach you math.
-
Him at 8 years old: Next time, I’m going to be an outstanding person. Outstanding people will have lots of money, and I can afford to buy everything you want to eat!
-
MC at 7 years old: Hey, why are you squatting on the floor with mud on your face?
Him at 5 years old: [crying] T-they threw mud at me. They said I’m a fatty, and that fatties are most useless...
MC at 7 years old: Don’t be afraid! I’ll wipe it off for you. Next time, just follow me. I’ll protect you! Don’t cry. Real men don’t cry.
Him at 5 years old: Sob sob sob... okay...
MC at 7 years old: What’s your name?
Him at 5 years old: My name is Xia Ming Xing. Xia for 夏天 (“xiao tian” - summer), Ming for 一鸣惊人 (“yi ming jing ren” - amazing the world), and Xing for 星星 (“xing xing” - star)-
MC at 7 years old: What a difficult name. Can I just call you Xing Xing?
Him at 5 years old: That sounds like the relative of monkeys.
[Note] In Chinese, 猩猩 (“xing xing”) is “gorilla”
MC at 7 years old: How about Ming Ming?
Him at 5 years old: The uncle next door is called Ming Ming.
MC at 7 years old: Hm, I’ll call you “Dumpling” then. You look like a dumpling.
Him at 5 years old: Sure, dumplings are so delicious.
MC at 7 years old: Let’s make a pinky promise to always be friends.
-
Time moves in reverse, and once again returns to the present. I feel as though a gust of wind that was stalled in the past is now coursing between us, blowing away the many years apart.
MC: Dump-
I smile, unable to help myself as I call his name. The moment I say one syllable, he clasps a hand over my mouth.
The composed youth from earlier is now flushed, giving me a pitiful look.
At this moment, Wu You’s face is ghastly pale.
MC: I’m uninterested and have no time to play such games with you. This is a competition, and it has its rules. I can afford to lose and can afford to win. I accept a just contest, but I reject dishonest tricks. There are many more designers, including your sister, who are striving to make even better products. That’s the meaning of designing. I’ve already explained what I had to. I trust that everyone can make their own judgements.
Grabbing Dumpling’s hand, I turn around to leave. Now, there’s something even more important waiting for me.
Feeling the warmth in his palm, the youth’s expression turns from astounded to beaming with happiness.
Jesse: Let’s go.
Pulling him to a place where we won’t be disturbed, I suddenly feel a little speechless.
What should I say? Exchange conventional greetings? Would that be too formal?
But we haven’t seen each other in so many years. It might be awkward to talk about other things.
He seems to realise this as well. He looks at me, dumbfounded and at a loss for what to do.
MC: Erm, Xia Ming Xing, it’s been a long time.
Jesse is taken aback for a moment. Then, he bursts out laughing.
Jesse: Who are you? Why are you calling me by my full name? Give that fierce girl back to me!
He reaches out to pinch my cheeks, his appearance as playful as back then.
MC: Stinky Dumpling. You’re the one who’s fierce. I haven’t asked why-
Before I can finish speaking, I’m pulled into a hug. It’s cosy and tastes of sunlight. The second half of my question melts into his arms.
Jesse: Did you know that it’s been a very, very long time since I heard the name “Dumpling”...
He tightens his grip, burying his head in the crook of my neck.
MC: Dumpling...
Jesse: Mm.
MC: Dumpling Dumpling Dumpling!
Jesse: I’m here.
Jesse: Did she bully you earlier? It’s my fault for arriving too late. She made things difficult for you for such a long time.
His voice brings with it a nasally tone. It’s gentle, like a cup of hot milk gradually flowing into my heart.
MC: Why are you only asking me about that?
Jesse: What else should I ask about? What’s more important than you getting bullied?
MC: I’m fine, thank you.
Unexpectedly, he’s given a fright and blinks incessantly.
Jesse: MC, have you gone silly? You actually thanked me?
MC: ?
Jesse: Aren’t you going to throw me a left hook, then ask where the hell I’ve been these years-
I place my hands on my hips, pretending to be angry.
MC: Why would I ask where the hell you’ve been? Didn’t we know each other just two days ago?
Jesse: What do you mean “two days ago”?! We’ve known each other for 15 years and 9 months!
MC: But why do I recall how a certain person refused to talk to me unless he wore a strawberry headgear?
Jesse: I... I was afraid you’d ignore me once you recognised me. I wanted to meet you again in a more formal setting.
MC: In that case, why did you rush into the room furiously?
Jesse: They were bullying you right under my nose. How could I hold myself back!
Jesse: Don’t be angry, okay?
He shifts closer to me. No matter where my eyes look, he meets them immediately.
Faced with such a pair of pure eyes, my temper dissipates. It’s as though everything in the past has been written off in them.
MC: Shouldn’t you give me an apology before I forgive you?
Jesse: Sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry-
He continues on and on, as though he'd continue saying this till the sky turns dark if I don’t get him to stop.
MC: That’s enough, I forgive you.
And with that, a bear hug lunges at me.
I’ve genuinely forgotten if his hugs were this warm during childhood.
Now, these pair of arms are filled with a comforting ease.
There are so many things I want to ask him. I want to ask if he’s been living well, and why he didn't give me a single call.
More than that, I want to ask why he left without saying goodbye.
But when I open my mouth, I swallow the words back down.
He mentioned that he couldn’t see me due to certain reasons. In that case, I’ll ask next time. Anyway, we’ve already reunited, and there’s still a very long time ahead.
MC: All right all right, you can let go now.
Jesse: Hang on. We haven’t seen each other for 7 years. Shouldn’t we make up for what was lost? One hug per year will do. That means seven, each lasting 5 seconds. In total, 35 seconds!
He actually calculated it seriously.
??: Cough.
I hear a cough from behind me, and feel Xia Ming Xing’s body stiffen. He lets go of me reluctantly.
MC: Jiang Lai?
Jiang Lai looks at me awkwardly, then drags Gao Cheng from his hiding place behind her back.
Gao Cheng: We didn’t want to disturb you two.
Jiang Lai: We just wanted to tell you that the producer decided to use your designs.
MC: Really? That’s great!
Jiang Lai’s a tsundere so MC has to take the initiative to ask the three of them to form a team
Jiang Lai and Gao Cheng leave
Jesse: They’ve already left, so why are you still looking? The person you should be looking at is here.
Jesse: Can I send you home? Just like in junior high.
MC: I was clearly the one who brought you home, okay? I sent you safely into your mom’s hands. Little Brat.
Out of habit, I reach out to tousle his hair, but realise I can only reach it by standing on tiptoes since he has grown much taller.
Jesse: Don’t call me Little Brat!
MC: Well, I’m two years older than you.
Jesse: But I’m already taller than you!
The youth lowers his eyes to look at me, his smile dazzling.
Jesse: Let’s go home~
-
MC: Let me test you. Which bus did we use to take? I moved houses due to work, but I still take the same bus.
Jesse: 102.
MC: How are you still able to remember?
Jesse: Of course I remember everything. I remember things related to you even better than yourself. The bus is here, the bus is here!
He places a hand on my back and we hurry onto the bus.
Although it’s a weekend, the bus is filled with students in uniform. We have no choice but to grip the handles while standing.
Jesse: Do you think they’re attending make-up classes? Isn’t today a Sunday?
MC: Many students have classes over the weekends these days. It’s unlike our time, where we had two days to rest.
Jesse: Wow, that’s great. Sigh. If only we were born a few years later.
MC: Let me off! Why didn’t I know that you were so enthusiastic about learning in the past?
Jesse: I’m enthusiastic about learning now. Is that wrong?
Jesse: Hey, look at that pair-
He points to the last row of the bus. A boy and girl are sitting next to each other, one earpiece in each ear. They aren’t interacting at all, and are staring out of the windows.
The boy would occasionally turn his head and glance at the girl, but will avert his gaze before the girl realises.
Jesse: Don’t they resemble us from back then?
MC: In what way? We were so boisterous.
Jesse: Correction. You hit me one-sidedly.
I shoot him a glare.
Jesse: But they’re still far from us. He wasn’t as handsome as I was back then.
MC: ...
Jesse: Look at them. One hand holding their school bag, the other placed on the seat. At a glance, it’s clear that they want to hold hands but don’t dare to.
MC: They look like junior high students. Where’s your mind wandering off to?
Jesse: These eyes of mine have seen through too many things. Sigh, what dummies! Just shift over slowly and grab it.
MC: You sound as if you’d actually do it.
Jesse: Of course I would. It’s just that I didn’t dare. Otherwise, I’d have-
MC: You’d have what?
He glances at me, then shakes his head, lips tightly sealed.
MC: Boasting again.
The bus suddenly jolts. The boy’s phone tumbles onto the ground, rolling in front of us. Xia Ming Xing picks it up and returns it to them.
Glancing at the tune that’s currently being played, I realise that it’s the male singer I liked most back then.
MC: How nostalgic. I was the same back then, only daring to listen to music on the MP3 after school.
Jesse: I was different. I listened to it in broad daylight in the classroom.
MC: Which is why The Exterminator confiscated it five times.
Jesse: But afterwards, I exchanged it with five exam scripts with full marks.
MC: Show off. Back then, I thought about how the days passed by so slowly. I wondered when I could grow up, because I’d finally be able to do the things I wanted to. I didn’t expect for time to speed by. After becoming an adult, each day passes by so quickly, and I don’t even have time to listen to music. In the blink of an eye, the people around me changed.
Jesse: But some things didn’t change, did they? We became the type of adults we are based on what remained.
MC: What remained for you then?
He no longer speaks, looking at me quietly with a silly smile.
MC: I realised that the frequency of your silly smiles are a little high.
Jesse: I’m looking at what remained for me. If we had gone to the same senior high school, what kind of people would we have become?
MC: You probably wouldn’t have gotten slimmer. After all, you came over to my house every day to freeload on meals.
Jesse: Do you think I can’t tell that you’re being sarcastic?
MC: Hahahaha-
How would we have turned out? I have no idea either.
When I travelled across the ocean after my grandmother’s death in my sophomore year, we would have parted anyway.
MC: Fortunately, we’ve met again now.
An earbud is suddenly stuffed into my ear. An acoustic guitar prelude instantly pulls me back to those youthful years.
I originally thought that I had forgotten the lyrics since a long time ago. But I can still hum “small yellow flower” and “playing on a swing”.
It turns out that the things we thought were forgotten are engraved in our minds, waiting to be awakened.
MC: There’s a similar MP3 in my house, but it’s broken and I need to get it fixed by a servicing shop. Oh yes, why are you listening to this song? Weren’t you distasteful of it in the past?
Jesse: It isn’t bad after listening to it again and again, although it’s still a little lacking as compared to me. In the past, you used to say that I was the God of Singing in your eyes.
MC: Hahahahaha, fine fine, God of Singing. I didn’t expect you to really enter this industry and become a musical actor. It’s miraculous.
Jesse: Miraculous?
MC: When we were younger, there was an essay where we had to write about what we wanted to be when we grew up. You wrote about being a singer who sang for the entire world. Afterwards, your mom saw it and forced you to erase it all off, changing it to a scientist.
Hearing me talk about his embarrassing past, he scratches the back of his head abashedly.
MC: Being able to make your dream come true, especially if it’s a dream which isn’t understood or affirmed, is truly incredible.
Jesse: That’s because I have a secret strength supporting me.
Hearing the music, I suddenly think of the outfit I had designed for him. Perhaps I could add a few more elements related to youth.
Taking out my notebook from my bag quickly, my head suddenly feels dizzy, and my nose bumps against his shoulder.
MC: That hurts!
Jesse: [sighs] ...
He turns his body in resignation, bending his back.
Jesse: Draw while leaning on my back, Miss.
MC: Mm!
-
The sky gets dark very early in autumn. The evening breeze raises a hue from afar, and leaves rustle from the trees.
The hubbub of voices on the bus and affectionate teasing seem to have been dispersed by the breeze, leaving without a trace. What’s left are the both of us walking home in silence from the bus-stop.
Moonlight leaks from the trees along the roadside, outlining the side of Xia Ming Xing’s face. It’s no longer roundish, and has become a little foreign.
MC: Dumpling, why did you suddenly move away back then?
I have no idea why I suddenly asked this. There was simply a strange feeling that he’d disappear again if I didn’t ask about it.
A twinge of guilt flashes past Xia Ming Xing’s face.
Jesse: Do you still remember the call I gave you on the day I left?
MC: Call? What call?
Jesse: You don’t remember? You picked it up, but hung up after I said a few words.
MC: ...when did I hang up?
Why do I have no impression of this at all?!
MC: What’s going on?
Jesse: Back then, my family was moving. I managed to fight for one week with my parents, wanting to stay behind to finish the competition with you. I didn’t have the guts to tell you because I was afraid you’d be upset if you knew. Afterwards, I summoned my courage and gave you a call. But you weren’t willing to listen to me.
MC: That never happened. Why didn’t I know about this at all...
Jesse: So you never hung up?
He grabs my shoulders, his fingers cold as ice. I can almost feel his body trembling.
Jesse: It wasn’t that you didn’t want to hear from me?!
He asks once more, his tone seeking confirmation.
For a period of time after he left, I refused to hear the name which was equivalent to “betrayal” in my heart. But no one knew that I was secretly looking forward to him returning one day.
At the very least, it could prove that I wasn’t the party who was abandoned.
But why was this the answer? A mistake? A perhaps irretrievable mistake from such a long time in the past?
With this thought, my chest feels suffocated.
MC: So that’s why you didn’t look for me in all these years?
The youth remains silent, orange strands of hair blowing up with the wind.
Jesse: I had my reasons for not contacting you. It had nothing to do with the call. I... just wasn't brave enough.
I suddenly have no idea how to respond to his calm gaze, and I also understand that neither of us were at fault for the parting back then.
MC: Xia Ming Xing.
Jesse: Hm?
MC: Were you the one who put the MP3 into the tin?
Jesse: Mm.
MC: So you put the card in there too.
Jesse: Mm. But I didn’t participate in the competition with you, and couldn’t stay by your side. I don’t seem to have kept any promises.
I shake my head forcefully, eyes already damp.
Jesse: But now, I won’t shirk from it. As long as it’s something I promise you, I’ll definitely do it.
He takes a step towards me. The years have caused the once delicate youth to change entirely, turning into the man in front of me, whose eyes are especially resolute. With such a gaze, I’ll always choose to believe him, no matter what.
After sending me home, he stands in the corridor as he watches me enter, just like in the past.
Five minutes later, a rustling sound comes at the window.
Jesse: MC, open the window!
Opening the window in confusion, the image before me almost causes tears to leave my eyes.
Pink confetti flutters and blooms in the city sky, dancing gently in the clear summer night, akin to that snow which had yet to appear many years ago.
Amidst the pink coloured snow, the youth reveals a bright and hearty smile as he waves at me.
Jesse: You asked if I regretted it. The answer is - I regret it. I regret it very much, and at every single moment. Summer is already over, but why do I feel as though this summer has just begun?
Jesse: Next week, come and watch my performance. This time, it’d be my turn to wait for you.
MC: Mm, I’ll definitely be there!
-
Only after the snowflakes finish their descent does Xia Ming Xing reluctantly walk home. If he was slightly braver and slightly stronger back then, would the ending to their story be different?
He doesn’t know. It seems that particular rainy day is still before his eyes. It’s late at night, and a figure flashes past at the end of the dim alley.
Jesse: Who’s there!
The surroundings are completely silent. Xia Ming Xing turns his head and looks at the girl’s illuminated window, then quickly chases after that figure.
A crow flaps its wings and flies past at a low altitude. The moss-covered corner is encased by deathly pale moonlight. Xia Ming Xing stops in his footsteps, black blood soaking his shoes.
However, he doesn’t pay any mind to it. His gaze is locked tightly on that figure whose knees are on the ground, bowing devoutly towards the moon.
Jesse: Who are you?
That person turns around slowly. It’s a girl around ten years of age, and she’s small and petite.
Black hair covers her cheeks. She lifts the white candle in her hand, stuffing it into her mouth and chewing on it. The two golden bracelets on her wrist jingle.
Jesse: Her soul has been taken-
The moonlight grows increasingly bright. An indiscernible black spot suddenly appears on the girl’s chest, and the stench of something burning begins to fill the air.
Seeing that the girl is about to bite the tip of her tongue off, a rope flies from his hand, binding and tying the girl up.
The white candle falls to the ground. Xia Ming Xing lifts up two fingers, twisting a charm towards the girl. With a tearing sound, the charm turns into ashes in the air.
-
Three days later, it’s the day of the final competition of “Upper Hand”
MC is caught in a traffic jam along the way and decides to alight from the taxi halfway through
Sadly, she arrives just as the curtain falls
I hesitate, not knowing if I should approach him.
However, Xiao Ming Xing is already walking towards me. He has changed out of his performance outfit, and is wearing a simple t-shirt and jeans, looking clean and fresh.
Jesse: How was it? I didn’t embarrass you, did I?
I don’t really have the guts to look at him.
MC: I’ll tell you something, but don’t get mad.
Jesse: Every time you said that in the past, nothing good happened.
MC: Really?
Jesse: The first time you said it, you broke my game console.
MC: ...
Jesse: The second time you said it, you cooked me expired cup noodles for supper.
MC: ...
Jesse: The third time-
MC: Enough!
Why do I have such a black record!
Jesse: Go on, I’ve mentally prepared myself.
MC: Actually, I only heard the last five seconds of that song.
Jesse: ...
I can clearly sense that he’s akin to a deflated balloon. His eyebrows, which were arched earlier, droop downwards.
MC: Sorry. I’ll treat you to orange soda and vanilla ice-cream until you’re stuffed, okay!
I lift my hand up, gesturing a vow. Pulling a long face earlier, Xia Ming Xing suddenly bursts into laughter.
Jesse: MC, why can’t I get angry with you?
MC: You’ve forgiven me?
Jesse: I didn’t say that.
MC: But you just said that you can’t get angry with me.
Jesse: If you want me to forgive you, sing a song with me!
MC: ...what?
Before I can react, he grabs my hand and rushes towards the stage.
The youth has a smile which says that he has gotten his way. It’s as if this moment is something he’s been plotting for a very long time.
The moment we step onto the stage, a familiar melody sounds. In an instant, I feel as though I’ve travelled to a lifetime ago.
Jesse: Still remember this song? We named it together - “Portrait of Youth”.
How could I not remember? This was the song we wrote together for the competition back then.
It’s the song that we wanted to clinch the championship with.
It was a song we didn’t get to sing in the end.
In an empty basement, we’d hold our cola cans like microphones, practising till late at night.
We had immaturely mimicked the lyrics we didn’t understand at that age. But many years later, I realise that each line has turned into our story.
It’s as though something in the depths of my body is being awakened. It’s the fervour and anticipation that a youth has for the future, throbbing and pure.
My eyes can’t help but feel warm, and I find myself singing along with him involuntarily.
-
Portrait of Youth (audio here)
That vanilla ice-cream
Melted in our rainy season
That old piano
“Ding dong ding dong” - is the tapping of the hour hand
Back then, I always loved to tease you
But didn’t allow anyone else to make you cry
You always said that I was a koi
But I was always asking you for tuition before exams
Dragonflies fly past our heads
Our inseparable shadows when we were young walk slowly in our memories
On the bicycle, I’m the only one with sweat like rain
I’m the only one left on the bicycle dripping with sweat
You were long gone from behind me
If the storm didn't block our vision that day
If I knew how to say goodbye that day
The flower petals in the diary
The unwashed roll of film from the camera
They wouldn’t be lonely longings
If the string of the kite didn’t break that day
If I could have been slightly braver that day
The empty pages in the diary
Wouldn’t have been filled with moss
The seven years in which we wandered off can’t be lost.
-
The lights gather in his eyes, and I'm reflected in them. It has been the case since many years ago.
All the stories seem to have ended with summer, but they begin with summer as well.
Fortunately, summer will always arrive. This unfinished story shall begin on this summer day.

Memories of You, Chapter 1 - Freefall
Spoilers below for Amphibia True Colors.
The sun set on an orange sky, as the smoldering remains of a toad tower pillow with smoke, the sky mourning the massive loss of life. Among the castle of Newtopia which had suddenly started flying above Newtopia, the king of Amphibia opened his hand, dropping whatever he was holding. The object he was holding, which was a frog boy named Sprig, plummeted.
As he passed through the clouds, they only thing he could manage to do was cry. He didn’t scream, didn’t say anything, he just let forth silent tears that singed his eyes. There was only one thing he could think of: his family. He was too young to go. He didn’t see the blonde girl jump out after him, but he knew he couldn’t do anything to save himself. It was already too late. Feeling the air blow off his cap and goggles, he just kept his eyes clenched and waited for an impact. It was like the world fell silent for him. No sound seemed to reach his ears. He didn’t see or hear the girl, who was already deemed untrustworthy, screaming his name and reaching out towards him. He was only able to utter out a single word before his world went dark: “Anne.”
“Give him back!” Anne screamed after gaining some ability from the Calamity Box. It gave her incredible power, but it was clear she was losing energy, and fast. “Give him… back” She collapsed, her hair returning from the weird blue color back to its natural brown, the Plantars rushing to her side. “Where’s Sprig?” She mustered all the strength she could. She felt super dizzy, she felt th same way after riding the Spider Spinner at the Grubhog day festival.
“Anne.” Sasha, emerging from the shadows, a fitting place for her, but she seemed different. Sad. Guilty. She was carrying something in her arms. “I swear, I tried, I tried to catch up with him, but I couldn’t- I couldn’t get to him in time, I’m so, so, so sorry.” She lowered her arms to reveal Sprig’s lifeless body, bruised and battered, but still very much intact.
“MY BOY!!!” Hop Pop screamed in agony.
Sasha handed Sprig off to Anne, and stepped back to pay her respects. “No,” whispered Anne. “No nonono no no no!” She was hugging Sprig close to her own body, tears showering from her eyes. “NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!” An observer could have seen her eyes flash blue like they had when she gained that ability a few minutes ago.
“Awwwwww, it’s so sad isn’t it?” King Andrias stood over them, his blazing blade lighting his face with an orange glow, not too far a shade from the still setting sun. “You’ve still got the gift kid, so I can’t let you live. But don’t worry, you’ll see him again soon.” The leviathan raised his sword to strike the family down, when the castle jolted, the same as it had when Polly had removed the Box. It was Marcy, who was kneeling down, fiddling with the box. She was muttering to herself, then waved to Anne and the Plantars, motioning to them to get into the portal that had recently formed.
“Anne, go,” Sasha told her, drawing her two swords. “We’ll hold them off.” As Anne and her family ran two the portal, Sasha, Grime, and General Yunnan were battling the titan, but were quickly bested by him, who shouted for the box.
“Marcy, hurry!” Anne pleaded.
“I just need to-“
Her voice was cut off as Andrias’ sword plunged into her back. She looked down in utter fear and shock. “MARCY!!” Anne screamed.
“Ah,” Marcy gasped for breath. “I’m sorry.” She lost strength quickly. “For everything.” She collapsed, causing the music box to hit the ground, and Anne’s world went white.
Anne and the Plantars found themselves on Earth. Their first stop, of course, was Anne’s house, where she and her parents shared a loving reunion. They told her that she’d been gone for 5 months and that no one had seen them at all, except for a man in a pawn shop, who was the last person to see them. Anne was sure they wouldn’t understand where she was, but her found family was enough proof that they needed. Her mom would have loved Sprig. She thought about the blue butterfly that that one Newt girl gave her all the way back in Newtopia.
But Anne couldn’t give her mother her gift yet, they had more important things to do first. They had to regroup, recover, and reflect. She had to process what had just happened, with Andrias’ incoming invasion, Sasha’s betrayal, what Marcy had done, and oh Frog, Marcy! Was she alright? Of course she wasn’t, she was stabbed for frog sake. And, most of all, what would they do about Sprig?
The Plantar’s were finally able to enjoy Pizza, which was the first thing they asked for. They said they wanted either pizza or omelettes, but they were never able to bake the pizza, so it was chosen. The silence was filled by Hop Pop and Mr. Boonchuy telling stories to each other as Polly tried to play with Domino, but Domino was busy staring at the wall, which Anne remarked as strange. It was like she was staring at something invisible.
That night, Anne was plagued by nightmares. Andrias bared an evil grin as a glowing fire sword plunged through Anne’s chest, and she realized that she was in Marcy’s body. Then she was in Frobo’s body and she was crushed by Andrias’ fist. Then she was falling from the castle, but she was not in Sprig’s body, as she heard him calling her name. She saw him reaching out to her. “Can you see me Anne?” He cried out to her.
“Sprig, I see you, it’s going to be alright!” She screamed.
“Anne!”
“Yes Sprig?”
“Wake up.”
“Wh-what do you mean?”
“Anne, I need to know if you can see me. Wake up!”
Anne woke up in a cold sweat. “That was such a weird dream.” Sprig’s voice felt so weird, so real. She looked around and saw nothing. She lied back down to go to sleep.
“Anne, wake up!” She heard Sprig’s voice again. She sat up again, looked to her left and saw nothing. Then she looked to her right and saw… Sprig? She wasn’t expecting him to be there, so she stumbled back and screamed.
“Uh, are you another hallucination Sprig?” Anne shakily asked. She noticed a light go on in the hall, she must have woken someone up.
“No, it’s me, I’m real. No one can see me for some reason. Only the cat has noticed me.”
“Oh, so that’s what she was doing at dinner.”
She heard a soft knock at the door, followed by it opening. It was Anne’s mother. “Is everything ok, Anne? I heard some loud noises. Who are you talking to, and why are you on the floor?”
“I’m fine, but it’s Sprig! He’s right here.” She points to Sprig, who waved at the girl’s mother.
She stared at the empty bed, staring through Sprig literally. She then gained a sorrowful look. “Oh honey, I’m so sorry you’re going through this!”
They heard some pattering down the Hallway as Hop Pop slid into view. “Is everybody ok? Is Anne hurt? Is she sick?” He gasped. “Did the pizza poison her?!” He shouted in a panic, as Hop Pop is known to do.
“Everything is alright, Hopediah.” Anne’s mother assured the elder frog. “Anne is just saying that she saw Sprig in her room, and was talking to him as well.”
“Oh dear. Anne, it’s gonna be alright.” Anne shot a confused glance at Sprig, who shrugged, giving a look that screamed ‘I told you so’. “Anne, I know it hurts, and it will hurt for the rest of your life. I can stay here for as long as you need.” He looked at Mrs. Boonchuy, who nodded, agreeing.
“Thanks Mom, thanks Hop Pop, I think it was just a hallucination. I’ve had a hallucination of Sprig before, that night on the road to Newtopia, when you guys were taken by the Scorpileo. I’ll be fine, thank you.”
“Ok sweetie. Let me know if you need anything else.” Her mother kissed her on the forehead. “I’m so happy to have you home again. I missed you so much.” She ushered Hop Pop out of Anne’s room, while giving her a loving smile. “I love sweetie. Sleep Well.” She turned off the lights and closed the door. Anne got back in bed and waited for the light in the hallway to shut off.
“So you’re a ghost?” Anne softly asked.
“Yeah, I guess I am. This is so weird.”
“What does it feel like? If you don’t mind me asking.”
“It’s like my whole body feels numb. Like I can feel that my arms and face are here, but I can’t feel anything. It’s so weird. And I don’t have any legs.”
“And you are blue.”
“And I’m blue….” Anne thought about a funny song from the internet, but this wasn’t really an appropriate time to sing it. Marcy would have, and… there she goes thinking about Marcy again. “So what do we do now?”
“What we always do.”
“Have fun?”
“Wait.”
“Oh that makes more sense.”

A story about a reunion, and everything that happens afterwards.
Chapter 16/20 - Read on A03 here.
Patrick reads the email over again, just to make sure, then he runs out into the living room to tell David.
“I did it.”
David looks up from his spot on the couch, his black-framed glasses perched on his nose. They’ve had a very sleepy Sunday morning, followed by a big breakfast of bacon and omelets, and David still hasn’t gotten around to putting in his contacts. Patrick loves him like this.
“What did you do?” David rises up from the couch, all grace and designer loungewear, and comes over to Patrick.
“I got a job.” Patrick isn’t sure if what he is feeling is relief, excitement, or equal parts of both, but it feels amazing.
David smiles at him and pecks him on the cheek. “Of course you did.” He sits down on the couch and pats the cushion next to him. “Sit down and tell me about it.”
“It’s just a consulting position, bookkeeping mostly, but for a company that works with start-ups and young entrepreneurs. And it’s decent pay, more than I was expecting for this kind of thing.”
“That’s great,” David says. “When do you start?”
“They want me right away.” Patrick can feel his smile stretching his cheeks. It’s the first time he’s felt anything but useless in so long, the way the people at this firm seemed to understand what he could bring to the table. Patrick accepts another kiss from David, and then pops back up off the couch. “I’m gonna call my parents.”
He goes into the bedroom and talks to his mom, then his dad, and then the conversation somehow gets derailed into a debate on whether buying new furniture for the lanai right now is a good idea or if they should stick with what they have for the time being. Patrick kind of likes the idea of making David go shopping for patio furniture with him, so he’s voting for the former. Finally they circle back to his job, his parents congratulate him again, and he gets off the phone.
He’s headed back to the living room, but pauses when he sees David in the guest room. David has a black leather bag open on the bed and his sweaters folded in careful piles next to it. Patrick’s stomach drops.
“David? What – what are you doing?”
David looks up. He’s dressed in his favorite armor, glasses discarded in favor of contacts, a fuzzy black sweater over the black jeans with the rips in the knees. “You said you were starting right away. You didn’t say where, but I’m assuming Toronto-”
“Toronto? Why would you assume Toronto?”
David’s face shutters further, and he turns back to his bag. “I know I said I’d go anywhere with you, but I thought you might at least give me a heads up, discuss it a little bit, especially if it’s not Toronto. I do have to deal with my apartment there at some point.” David turns towards him, a hand on his hip. “Do you even still want me to come with you?”
Patrick doesn’t know how this could have gone so horribly wrong, and he crosses to David, grabbing him by the shoulders. “Stop packing.”
“You don’t want me to come with you?” David’s voice is rising, and Patrick shakes his head.
“I’m not going anywhere. We’re not going anywhere, not until we both decide we want to.”
“What on earth do you mean?”
“David, we’re not going anywhere. I don’t have to <i>go</i> anywhere. It’s a remote job.”
David stares at Patrick, and Patrick watches as he mentally replays the conversation they’ve had so far. “You aren’t leaving?”
“No.” Patrick sits down on the bed, David frowning at him as he knocks over a pile of sweaters, but sits down next to him anyway. “It’s remote, part-time. A consulting gig. Varied schedule, but they think it’ll be about 20-25 hours a week, depending in part on how much their clients like me, and how well I can add value. I may need to go to the Toronto office a few times a year, for meetings or something. But I’m doing the job from home – from here, or wherever.”
David turns away, picking up his off-white hoodie and pretending to refold it, even though Patrick can tell he just needs something to do with his hands. “You should have told me that,” David says, embarrassed.
“I know. I’m sorry, I just got so excited.” Patrick leans into David, rubbing a hand on his back. “I’m sorry,” he says again, letting it sink in, letting David get his balance. “I wouldn’t make any plans for us without talking it over with you. I promise I wouldn’t. My plans wouldn’t be any good without you.”
David’s eyes flicker to his and away, his hands still wrapped in the halfway folded sweater.
“It’s true, David.” Patrick puts his free hand on top of David’s, calming their restless movement. “I don’t want any plans without you in them. I haven’t even accepted the offer yet.”
“You haven’t?” David turns back, searching his face.
“Nope. I told them I had to talk it over with my boyfriend.” Patrick’s taking a risk, throwing that word out there. But David had done it first last time, and he doesn’t think there’s really any question that it applies. He’s sort of glad that he hasn’t used it yet; there’s more of an impact now, when David clearly needs it.
David’s eyes go wide. “You did?”
“I did. So – what do you think?”
David shifts, and his demeanor softens, his walls coming back down. “I think your <i>boyfriend</i> needs to know more.” There’s a smile hidden in his cheek, an agreement. Patrick wants to cheer. David holds his gaze, and his smile escapes, mirroring Patrick’s own. “And then you probably need to ask for more money. There’s nothing wrong with asking for what you deserve.”
“You don’t even know what they offered me.”
“Whatever they offered, you’re worth more.”
******
Patrick gets up earlier than normal a few days later and shaves carefully, examining his face closely in the mirror. He doesn’t look like someone who hasn’t worked in months. He just looks like himself. And when he presents himself to David for approval, David’s smile courses through his lips and into his cheeks, his hands dancing to Patrick’s shoulders, smoothing down the thin fabric of his favorite purple dress shirt. He’s ready.
They set up an office of sorts for Patrick in the guest bedroom, shifting the bed to one side, moving a dresser out of the room and into the hallway, and arranging a table by the window. Patrick decides that one of the dining table chairs will work for the time being, and David fusses with the curtains, concerned that the glare will make it hard to see his laptop screen.
Finally Patrick ushers David out of the guest room and logs in to a Zoom meeting for orientation. It’s boring as hell, but he doesn’t complain.
It’s not as if he thought he was unemployable, it’s just that after his last job imploded so strangely, he wasn’t sure what it would be like to be an employee again. And didn’t know if anyone would give him a chance to find out. Turns out, Alexis was not only good at papering over his employment blips, she was awesome at pep talks and interview practice. He makes a note to himself to call her soon and thank her.
That night they make sandwiches and eat them on the lanai. It’s a little cool for it, but it still feels nice to be outside. Patrick had his parents send him down some more clothes, but David scoffed at the idea of wearing a jacket. Instead he’s got a throw blanket draped around his shoulders, a giant turquoise fleece wrap that clashes terribly with his otherwise neutral palette.
They get a series of texts from Stevie, photos of the house she’s buying in Schitt’s Creek. It’s a three-bedroom ranch on a decent sized lot. The interior looks like it hasn’t been updated in decades, with a pink bathroom and horrendous wallpaper in the bedrooms, but Stevie’s had plenty of experience updating décor at this point.
David teases her for a few minutes, riffing on how unbelievable it is that she’s adult enough to be a homeowner, but his heart doesn’t seem in it. Patrick doesn’t tell him how Stevie has been saving for years, every bonus and raise going into an account for a down-payment.
After their chat with Stevie, David seems out of sorts, and Patrick isn’t sure what to do about it. After they’ve cleaned up from dinner, he suggests they play a game.
David gives him a frowny look, and Patrick immediately knows what he’s thinking. Neither of them are in the mood for sex. “Not that kind of game. A card game, or a board game.”
David perks up at this, then deflates. “We don’t have the right number of people for a board game.”
“I bet we can find something the two of us can play. My parents have a pile of games in the hall closet.”
They pull down the basket of games from the shelf above the laundry machine, and David peers inside. “Did they get these from a yard sale or something?”
There’s a worn box that contains a checkerboard, with both checkers and chess inside, a Connect Four game, a few decks of cards, and Uno.
“I think my aunt sent them down.” Patrick takes out the Uno deck. “How about this?”
David takes the whole basket into the living room and sets it on the coffee table. He takes out the Connect Four game and pulls out the plastic frame, dropping a round tile into it. “I had this game,” he says thoughtfully.
“I think everyone had that game.”
David dumps out the rest of the pieces, and a greeting card falls out. It’s got a drawing of a bouquet of flowers on the front, with “Get Well Soon” in big letters. “What’s this?” David opens it and reads out loud. “Marcy – hope this brings a little bit of fun to your day. You’re in our prayers. Love Susie and Pete.”
Patrick takes the card and reads it, his mind flashing back to last spring, flying down to see his parents. His dad breaking down in tears on the car ride from the airport. His mother telling him not to worry.
“Patrick? Patrick, honey, what’s going on?”
David has his arm around him, and he’s pressed close to him on the couch. Patrick brushes away the wetness on his cheeks, and David pulls him into a hug. “Patrick, tell me what’s wrong.”
“It’s nothing.”
David glares at him.
“I mean, it turned out to be nothing.” Patrick shakes himself and clears his throat. “My mom had a cancer scare last spring. They found a tumor in her breast. But it was benign.”
“<i>This</i> doesn’t sound like it was benign.” David waves the card at him. “People don’t say <i>you’re in our prayers</I> when it’s benign.”
“She had a bad reaction to one of the drugs, during the surgery, and took a little while to recover. She was laid up for a while, and pretty miserable. But it wasn’t cancer.”
David’s eyes are wet, and he looks like he’s going to cry, too. “She’s okay now?”
“She’s okay.” Patrick leans against David, snuggling into his arms, and they both breathe together for a long moment. “Oh god, I think that’s why I freaked out in the doctor’s office.”
David shifts to look at him. “What do you mean?”
“As soon as I heard, I flew down here. I went with my mom and dad to the doctor’s visits before her surgery. I couldn’t stay long afterwards, I had to get back to work, but…” Patrick’s throat gets tight, remembering. “It was awful. We were all so frightened.”
David presses Patrick’s head against his own, his large hand against Patrick’s scalp warm and comforting. Patrick can feel David’s chest rising and falling. David’s taking deep breaths, he can tell, trying to stay calm.
“You said this happened last spring?” David says quietly.
“Yeah.”
“When things started to go wrong for you at work.”
Patrick tenses. “My mom was in the hospital. I think it’s understandable that I was having trouble focusing.”
“No, honey, of course. That’s not what I meant. Of course it is. It’s just – you didn’t mention that before. That being worried about your mom is what started to get you down.”
Patrick feels like he’s a cartoon character with a light bulb flashing over his head. Could it be that simple? Was worrying about his mom’s health, on top of his general dissatisfaction with where he had ended up in life, what pushed him over the edge into depression?
David tightens his arm around Patrick’s shoulder. “I’m so sorry, Patrick. That that happened to your family. It must have been a very scary thing to deal with.”
“It really was.”
“I’m so glad she’s okay.”
Patrick turns and buries his face in David’s neck. “Me too.”
That night, after David falls asleep, Patrick turns to the internet. He hadn’t wanted to do this before. He’s not sure why, although he thinks it has a lot to do with denial. But he can’t stop thinking about his mom, and how hard it had hit him when she was sick. Gritting his teeth, he starts googling causes of depression. Upsetting or stressful life events. Death or illness in the family. Job-related worries. Huh. Maybe he had good reason to feel like things were falling apart. Maybe that’s why he lost the ability to care about his job. Maybe he’s not doomed to fail at his new one, too.
Patrick scrolls to the email from the therapist he’s been talking to. So far, it’s just been a few emails and a brief phone call, an introduction, to see if she seemed like a good fit. She’s based out of Toronto, but has many patients that she counsels remotely, on Facetime or Zoom, and comes highly recommended. With shaking hands, he types out a message, suggesting that they schedule a session soon. “I think it started last spring…”

If I Remember Correctly
Maxine Winters
Safe House 110197, Brazil
Maxine looked at Samantha and smiled. They were finally together once again, as roommates, but this time, the room was huge and they were surrounded by strong men who were willing to risk their lives to protect them.
"How are you holding up?" Maxine asked.
"Everything's a swirl of hazy incomplete memories. It feels like I'm mostly recalling them back, but the details are a bit mixed. It doesn't feel right that I recall Alex as someone from work, right?" she chuckled. She must've been going through a lot of things right now, and it looked like Alex successfully helped her recall most of her forgotten memories. Maybe all she needed was someone to influence her.
"Hey Sam, what kinds of things have I told you about my past? France already told me some of my unforgettable memories but they still seem too unclear." She asked, Samantha looked excited as she began recalling something from the unaltered part of her memory.
"Well, for starters you told me a lot about your little sister. However since your mother died, the two of you were always together solving the problems as a team until you both decided to enlist her in the army. You told it was both the happiest and saddest moment of your life." She said with a smile on her face. Maxine never felt anything but knowing that that was their situation, it made sense how France was trying hard to win her back. She was the only one she had. And it must've hurt that the only companion she ever had didn't even remember her.
"I… I didn't know that…" she faltered. Samantha quickly reached out a hand to hold hers.
"Just take your time to remember… I'm sure France understands the situation." Samantha replied, turning to the door as it slowly pushed itself open. Alex peeked from the said door and asked.
"Am I disturbing any girl talk?"
"A little. But I'll forgive you for now." Samantha grinned as Alex entered the room, dressed in comfortable sleeping wear.
"I made a deal with France to swap sleeping positions for tonight. Make sure skipping tomorrow's pancake will be worth it." he winked as he settled behind Samantha, the spooning was awkward as his metal leg was unbendable and heavy, but Maxine noticed the smile in Samantha's eyes and how it quickly forgot the uncomfort he was giving her. Maybe that's true love.
"Aw… I was about to add extra honey to your plate, Alex. What you did to Samantha was the sweetest thing ever. I guess France is up for a treat." She joked, making the girls giggle while Alex furrowed his brows.
"Well then, this night better be worth it." He proceeded to tickle Samantha and they found themselves rolling and rolling. Maxine took a minute to admire the scenery before her eyes slowly closed itself to sleep.
~
Ever since being brainwashed, Maxine wasn't able to dream of something, every morning she would be greeted by the same empty feeling, her thoughts would always consist of recent events.
This night was different. She vividly recalled a rainy afternoon. She and Francine stood by their mother's grave.
"I'm going to the army next week, Mom. It might take a while since I'll be seeing you again." Francine knelt and placed a small floral pot they arranged.
"Yeah Mom, your daughter finally used her toughness somewhere other than fighting me!" She remembered herself joking and nudging her sister. These were things that they did on a weekly basis, visit their mother’s grave and talk about their week.
“And since she’s out training for the rest of her life, I decided to move to California, maybe look for restaurants to work on maybe look for someone special.” Maxine mused. She could hear France giggle.
“I, on the other hand, won’t let myself fall for any of those tough army men.” France added.
“Are you sure about that? It’s like… turning down a million dollar offer.” Maxine teased.
“It really depends on the person. But while I’m in training, I’ll focus on improving.” She amended.
Then the memory faded, it felt like tv static started to consume her whole dream until she found herself awake, gasping for air.
“You okay?” Alex groggily asked her, cuddling Samantha who was sound asleep. She nodded and got up, she felt very thirsty.
Maxine hurriedly walked down the stairs quietly passing the empty command center. Oddly enough, the kitchen light was open and she could hear soft clanking of cutlery. She took a peek at Gary Sandersom, who’s sticking his tongue out and too busy making finishing touches on a cake of sorts. She knew they didn't have the right mould for basic pastries but seeing him actually holding a cake, surprised her.
“So this is the reason I wake up to missing ingredients.” She spoke firmly and crossed her arms, walking closely to Roach who scrambled and immediately hid the cake behind him.
“I’m just trying out new stuff. Baking looked fun.” He lied, stepping further back until his butt hit the sink.
“I already saw what you’re working on Gary. How did you form the shape? We didn’t have any mold.”
“When there’s a will, there’s a way.” He smiled proudly and showed her his cake. It was cylindrical, almost like that of a
“Mugs.” he explained as Maxine crept closer to his work, her eyes probed around it like a judge from masterchef.
“Wow. This looks nice. Is this for you?” she asked, feeling Gary’s body shake differently.
“Actually, it’s for you… France told me about your birthday and since I already missed it. I wanted to share one with you. You know… for uh… formality.” he stuttered. It was obvious that Gary was nervous. She felt this ever since they started cooking together, and she noticed that he was improving around her.
“Aww… thanks. No one’s ever baked a cake for me. Samantha just buys them.” Maxine chuckled and sat on the chair as Gary pulled out a candle and lit it.
“I’m supposed to give you one before we leave tomorrow. I guess you got too excited.” he laughed nervously and gently placed his hand on her shoulder. Maxine gently reached for the hand and grazed it softly, smiling at Gary’s excited face.
“Make a wish.” Gary whispered, his minty breath tickled her nose. Maxine closed her eyes as the warm flame heated her cheeks. She would have wished for something personal, but instead she wished for something she thought needed to happen first.
“I wish… that this war will be over.” she opened her eyes and blew her candle as Roach silently clapped and cheered.
“Belated Happy Birthday Maxine.” He greeted with a warm hug, Maxine slowly gave in to his embrace and faced him. Tension sparked in the air between them as the chemicals moving between them started to react to each other, drawing their lips closer to each other. It was almost automatic, none of them held back as their lips clashed into a soft yet intense kiss. Their tongues were too shy to act but the lips were eager to meet again, soft smooches filled the quiet kitchen as their hands started to climb up to their faces.
“I.. um..” Gary shyly held back, his hands parted from her cheeks as they both stepped back from each other.
“It’s okay…" She whispered quickly, turning back to get herself a glass of water to calm herself from her nightmare and to cool off the heat of her body.
"I take it you're going back to bed?" Gary asked, leaning his arms across the table, looking at the cake.
"I think I can't sleep after that dream." She muttered. The reply signaled Roach to grab a fork and sit beside her.
"Dream? You're having dreams now?" Roach asked curiously, taking a slice off the cake and pointing the fork to her mouth.
"Yeah." Maxine continued with a vivid description of her dream, Roach momentarily spoon feeding her with cake every after thought.
Maxine actually stayed all morning talking to Roach, they discussed mostly about her dream and Roach was there to listen. He was what Maxine needed at the moment, a great listener who happened to be someone she's starting to fall for. She could also feel him growing close to her, that wasn't just any birthday kiss… I felt something else.
Maxine was almost jealous of Roach's colorful life. He shared so much of him that she actually felt guilty that she was only able to share one. He had lots of stories involving encounters with animals and most of it was about his dog.
"If you were to choose… Which animal would you prefer as a pet?" Gary asked curiously. The question made Maxine stop and think, admiring the slowly rising sun as she goes.
"Parrots sound fun. They talk back."
"Only if you teach them to…" Gary responded. He always does that, he's adding comments to her replies until they both agreed on a thing.
"Why do you keep doing that?" Maxine finally asked.
"Do what?"
"You know, influencing me to agree on your opinion?"
"I just want you to think I actually have something to say… Plus it keeps the conversation going… because I never really wanted it to stop." He smiled.
"Oi, Roach. Why is there no hot water yet?" Price yelled.
"Hang on Captain! The kettle isn't whistling yet!" Roach replied running to the kitchen leaving an amazed Maxine behind. A few minutes later Francine approached her.
No words were spoken as Maxine immediately wrapped her sister around her arms, she was really all she had and she was guilty that she couldn't remember her when they first met.
"I'm glad you found me… even amidst this mess." Maxine whispered to France's ears. She could feel her tears falling on her as they enjoyed the tender moment of their reunion.
"I remembered only one memory. Of us before we separated and lived independently. I think it's all I needed to truly tell who I am." Maxine said as Francine sobbed.
"I love you sis." France hugged again as they both cried.
