the ending of 8x06 was insane I truly feel like I just watched a fanfic come to life. eddie’s dance party? perfection. buck coming over post bt breakup with a case of beer? perfection? eddie answering the door for him in his undies? perfection. buck just walking straight inside because it’s eddie’s house and he’s not really a guest? perfection. eddie clambering over the couch to sit with him? perfection.
#I could write an essay about the symbolism of eddie hopping over the couch to join buck and what that could mean#but I won’t#but I feel so strongly about that#911#buddie#911 abc#buddie 911#eddie diaz#evan buck buckley#911 buddie#911 8x06#molly watches 911

Now that I’ve seen “Buck, Bothered, and Bewildered” in the context of the rest of the show I’m going even more insane:
Tommy flies Eddie to Vegas for ringside seats.
He spends time at Eddie’s house.
He gets to know his kid.
He accepts an invite to the pickup game.
No one in the whole episode mentions Marisol.
Lou confirmed that the writers originally intended Tommy and Eddie to get together.
Tommy liked and was attracted to Buck from the beginning; if he wasn’t, he wouldn’t have dated him the moment he realized Buck was interested. But that whole time, while Buck was spiraling and in his feelings about Eddie and (unknowingly) pursuing Tommy - Tommy was pursuing Eddie, and Buck wasn’t an option.
All I can take from this is that when they met, Tommy clocked Buck as straight and Eddie as queer. So I really have to know:
What the hell kind of pheromones do Buck and Eddie give off around each other?
When Tommy whisked him away on the firefighter equivalent of a magic carpet, what did EDDIE think was happening?
How does everyone think Eddie is queer except for Buck and Eddie??
#mollie watches 911#911 ABC#my writing#eddie’s sexuality crisis is going to level several counties#five alarm fire heavy rescue all companies responding#as a disclaimer: Buddie is endgame for me but I love Buck and Tommy together#this post is not an invitation to hate on any character or ship#I love my children equally#this doesn’t even get into all the EVERYTHING happening with Buck about Eddie#this whole situation is messier than a bag of cats#their only hope is that unlike both Buck and Eddie#Tommy isn’t a chronic overthinker#he might be their only hope of figuring shit out#as always polyamory is the best choice for everyone

What’s this???
But-
But season five has clearly established that Owen is childless-
He has no surrogate son living in his house-
He has no actual son he’d move heaven and earth for-
What’s next-
You’re going to tell me that TK and Carlos both have A LIVING PARENT?!!
That is NOT LS as season five knows it!!!
#good golly miss molly season five writing is something else 🫣🫣#like seriously- who said- i know- let’s take everything good about season four- all that hope and warm feelings and that connection#these two characters have with the one parent they have left-#let’s take it out back and take care of it Old Yeller style!!!#like phoebe is far from y my favorite character on Friends-#but me watching season five is akin to her finding out how Old Yeller really ends-#what kind of sick joke is this?!#there hasn’t been a single episode of season five where I haven’t said more than once-#you know if you were going to do THIS-#you could’ve just ended the show after season four#like season five proves if nothing else-#yes- a godawful season is worse than no season at all!!#season 4 LS- you my happy place 🥰🥰🥰#911 lone star#owen strand#tk strand

Break in
Jay Halstead x reader
summary: when Jay's girlfriend is home alone while he's at Molly's, someone tries to break into their house
Y/n was looking disinterestedly through the fridge, closing it with a sigh when she couldn't find anything to eat that she felt like. It was a slow night, her workday had been quiet at the hospital, with only a few patients showing up.
Her boyfriend, Jay, had invited her to join him and the rest of the police department at Molly's. However, she refused, wanting him to spend quality time with his friends, feeling that she had already stolen him from them long enough after he took a few days to take care of her after she fell ill.
Detective Chuckles: Is everything okay out there? The guys miss you! Wish you could be here with me :(
The ringing of her cell phone snapped her out of her thoughts, a small chuckle escaping her lips as she read Jay's message. But she couldn't deny the butterflies that invaded her stomach knowing he was thinking about her. Their relationship was relatively recent, but they had never felt stronger love.
Jay once revealed to her that he realized she was the most important person to him when he was called on an undercover mission. They had only been dating for about 2 months. When he returned, after all the time they hadn't been together, he was shocked to see her waiting for him. He thought she had abandoned him, realizing that she couldn't live with his job, but he was wrong. He ran to her, picking her up and spinning her around a little, her laughter echoing through the room.
After answering his text, Y/n lay down on the couch, watching a movie while waiting for her boyfriend to come home. She didn't even notice when, halfway through the movie, her eyes started to get heavy, and she gave in to sleep.
She woke up again when she heard the lock on the front door click, almost as if someone was trying to get in. Too lazy to get up, thinking it was Jay trying to get in, Y/n tried to call him to remind him he had a key, in case he was already a little tipsy.
At the end of the second ring, the cop answered, but something made Y/n freeze in place, glancing at the door in alarm. She could hear the noise coming from the other people at the bar, meaning he wasn't the one at the door.
"Baby, you there? Is everything okay?" Jay's voice brought her back to reality.
"Jay, aren't you the one trying to get in by any chance?" her voice shook, still standing in the same spot on the edge of the sofa, now raised.
"What? Guys, shut up, I can't hear Y/n. Baby, I told you I'm at the bar with the rest of the group." his voice immediately became serious. "Why? What's happening?"
"Jay, I think someone is trying to get in." Y/n muttered, holding the phone tighter to stop it from falling due to the shaking of her hands. Her wide, frightened eyes were fixed on the door.
As soon as those words left her mouth, Y/n heard a noise on the other side — Jay was shouting something to Severide. Then, there was silence until the sound of Jay's jeep engine was heard.
"Y/n, I need you to listen to me very carefully. You go to our room and lock the door. Then you go to the bathroom and stay in the bathtub until I come and get you. No one else, just me. Do you think you can do that?"
From Jay's voice, Y/n noticed that he went into police mode, speaking calmly but with authority. In fact, this was just so he wouldn't lose control and be able to help his girlfriend, despite the fear that was spreading throughout his body.
"I need verbal responses, baby. Do you understand?"
"I understand." her voice shook.
"Good girl. Everything's going to be okay." Jay tried to comfort her, breaking all the traffic rules and having the sirens on to get home faster.
His heart was tightening in his chest, almost stopping him from breathing. He blamed himself, he knew he should have stayed at home with Y/n, and now she was in danger, and he couldn't protect her.
Behind him, Severide followed him in his vehicle on a 911 call.
"I'm scared, Jay." Y/n's scared voice caught the police officer's attention.
"I know, baby, I know. But I need you to be brave until I arrive. I won't let anything happen to you. I just need you to hold on and then we'll finally go to bed and cuddle. Does that sound good?"
"Yeah." She felt tears coming to her eyes but tried not to let them fall. Just like Jay said, she had to be brave until he came to save her.
Y/n then started to go to her room until she stopped halfway up the stairs when the front door handle stopped turning. For a moment, she thought she was exaggerating and it was just someone who made a mistake in the house. But the panic returned when the automatic rear light came on, indicating that someone had passed by.
Jay only heard the gasp she let out. "What? What's happening?! You need to talk to me, Y/N."
"I think they're trying to get in through the back. I don't know if I locked that door!" She stopped her speech suddenly. "Oh god, I just remembered I left Missy sleeping in the kitchen."
"Y/n, do not go in there just because of the fucking cat!"
Jay didn't even like the little furball who seemed to hate him from the moment Y/n started dating him. However, he knew that his girlfriend would never forgive herself if something happened to the cat.
"Don't scream at me! I would be such a bad owner if I didn't come back to get my cat."
"I don't care about the damn cat when you're in danger!" Jay argued, but he knew Y/n was already heading downstairs to get Missy.
When Y/n arrived, she quickly found the animal on the dining table, looking super calm, an emotion quite contrary to what Y/n was feeling. Picking her up and quickly kissing her head, the girl thought about what her next step in the plan would be: go back up the stairs or find another place to hide.
However, the intruders finally opened the door, and the choice became obvious. Y/n quickly ducked and hid behind the kitchen counter so she wouldn't be seen. On all fours and with Missy under her arm, she grabbed a knife and tried, as silently as possible, to head towards the pantry.
"Y/n, don't go silent on me. Tell me what's going on. I'm three minutes away."
"They're here, Jay. I'm in the pantry with a knife." Her breaths were ragged and shuddering. She had to put her hand over her mouth to stop herself from crying. "I was so stupid. Why didn't I do what you said? I'm sorry."
"Don't apologize. God, don't apologize, sweetheart." Jay muttered with a heavy heart, running his hand over his face in despair, never having felt greater helplessness.
"They're getting closer." Y/n whispered, closing her eyes and holding her hand in front of her mouth so you wouldn't hear her heavy breathing. Jay slammed his hands on the steering wheel, clenching his jaw and thinking about what he could say to his girlfriend. "I love you, Jay. So much."
"Don't say that like it's goodbye, Y/n. I can't take it." He shook his head, using all his strength not to break down and burst into tears. "I'm almost there. One minute."
But Y/n was no longer able to respond. That's because a man, dressed all in black, entered the kitchen and looked around. She was peeking through the pantry bars, hoping he wouldn't be able to hear her and that Missy kept quiet.
She just had to hold on for one minute. Jay would be there on time. Either way, she held the knife in front of her, ready to attack. But deep down, she knew she had no chance against the muscular man. Very easily he would be able to throw her down and take the knife from her. But she wouldn't go down without a fight.
She knew that if it came to that, she would have to try to scratch him to get his DNA under her nails. That way Jay and his team would have a better chance of catching this man.
The man got closer and closer to the pantry. Y/n's hands were shaking uncontrollably. She just wanted to close her eyes and discover that it was all a nightmare. But as much as she wanted to, this was reality and the fact that she could die that day became more and more real and scary.
She didn't want to die without kissing Jay one last time. Without calling her parents to tell them she loved them. Without telling her best friend she should take the first step and text the boy she liked. She wanted to be a mother. She wanted to marry Jay and experience an eternity with him.
But just as she was ready to run out with the knife pointed at him as soon as he opened the pantry door, the man was pulled aside. She heard a moan of pain followed by things falling to the floor. Y/n wanted to go out and see what was happening, but Jay's words echoed in her head: stay hidden until he came to get her.
And then came immense relief. She heard sirens. Before she could process everything that was happening, the pantry door opened. Y/n, in a moment of panic, got up and tried to attack, the person easily dodging and putting his hands up in defense. It was only then that she realized that the person in front of her was Jay, and the intruder was on the ground, bruised, and being arrested by another police officer.
Missy, with all the commotion, quickly ran up the stairs, probably hiding in the guest room until things calmed down. In turn, Y/n dropped the knife on the floor, her face contorting and her lips trembling. She began to cry, finally releasing all the panic and fear she felt. She was pulled into Jay's arms and into his chest.
With his arms around her, feeling his warmth and the movements of his chest, Y/n finally felt safe. Jay kissed her head, saying words of comfort in hopes that she would calm down.
"Jay…" she cried, grabbing his shirt with a very tight grip.
"I'm here, baby. I'm not going anywhere. It's okay. You're safe. Shh…"
Jay then just pushed her away slightly, holding her face with both of his hands. "Are you hurt?"
"No, I'm okay. I was so scared."
"I know, baby. But you were so brave, I'm so proud of you. And I'll never let this happen again, I promise." he gave her a small kiss on the lips, pulling her back to him. She would never disappear from his sight again.
"Hey, sweetheart." Gabby's voice broke the moment between her and Jay. Y/n she turned her head to look at the woman she adored so much, only now realizing that Severide and Brett were watching the scene from afar. However, she continued to grab Jay's shirt, ensuring he stayed close to her. "Do you mind if we go to the ambulance just to make sure everything is okay?"
A moment of hesitation. Brett, realizing the problem, stepped forward and with a gentle smile said, "Jay can come too."
So, Y/n nodded in permission, following the paramedics to the ambulance. Outside, there were two more police cars and neighbors were in front of their houses in their pajamas to see what was going on. Always under Jay's arm, Y/n waited for Dawson and Brett to do their assessment, ensuring that everything was really okay.
After ensuring that there was no need to go to the hospital, despite a lot of resistance on Jay's part, Y/n won the argument with the condition that the next day, Will would stop by to check on her. But at that moment, Y/n just wanted to sleep with Jay next to her.
Once in bed, the man had one arm over her protectively, making sure there was no space between them. "I will protect you until the end of my life. I love you."
"I love you too." she looked at him with just love in her eyes. Finding a more comfortable position, Y/n closed her eyes and tried to sleep.
But Jay stayed up all night. The most important thing is that Y/n recovers after that traumatizing night. And if she had any nightmares, he would be there to protect her.

I made the mistake of rewatching Sherlock because I never did finish it back in the day (I was -clenches fist- seething over the queerbaiting and rage quit after not fully watching episode 1 of s4) and I'm here to make my side hyperfixation (what year is this??? Who am I???) Tumblr's problem. The more I sit with s4, the less I like it 😂 There were pieces and elements I liked, but overall, it left a bad taste in my mouth. Forgive me if any or all if these points have been talked to death, I missed all the discourse and I'm hella late, but I need to flail and send my thoughts into the void because what even WAS that season? I can't believe I avoided it for years, got drawn in by a couple of tiktoks making fun (affectionately) of superwholock Era and That Scene about the fucking phone charger port, binged all of it, only to be left with..... that. Not nearly as disappointing or rage inducing as spn's ending but by God, did it leave a hole in me. So please ignore my rambling thoughts as I slap them down here for my own sanity.
• First and foremost, what - and I can't stress this enough - the fuck was UP with the assassination of John's entire character???? What was that??? Why????
• Related to that point - I can appreciate the angst point and potential it provides, as I'm reading many, many fics, but AYO WHY didn't anyone rip John an entire new one for that beat down he did on Sherlock????? Hello???? 911?????
• Tell me why everything felt so stilted and borderline icy. Like I get the high emotions and shit, but after a certain point... 😭 was there a falling out between Benedict and Martin that I'm not aware of? Did they just try to ungay everything so hard and were so pissed at the audience picking up everything THAT THEY PUT???? into this show and their interactions that they just hit the brakes hard enough to make everything feel weird???
• A lot of it felt weird. Off kilter a little. Forced in some places, toned down in others (and toned down where it shouldn't have been), a nod to ships but weirdly/hatefully??? Idk if that makes sense. Like the whole Sherlock and Molly phone call (I do not mean any hate to this ship, I really hope it doesn't come off this way. Not my cup of tea but you are valid). Why was Molly so upset BEFORE the call? Did I miss something? Also I don't personally think or feel she'd still have those feelings for him??? I??? I am bamboozled.
• to that whole point, Eurus was.... Hmm. Mmmm. She was. Something. (Confused derogatory)
• I like Mary as a character. I also hated her. (Definitely biased by my shipper trash ass self for johnlock, I'm sorry). Wtf were those messages, please. Edit: AND ANOTHER THING. John's reaction to Sherlock's death - awful, gut wrenching, beautiful, my heart breaks with and for him, utterly devasting. John's reaction to Mary's death - had me sitting there like🧍♀️(it was weird. so weird. awkward. w h y. (we know why, but also the acting choices were Something TM, in both cases! for different reasons!) i'm sorry i just can't get past my anger and put off-ness with mary, fun as she could be)
• why did mycroft and John switch roles 😭 pls. The last episode was just. So Much. The lackluster responses from John, to John, to Sherlock, between them, like.... hello???? Who are these people?? Help me. Moriarty saved me for a brief shining moment tho, God bless.
There's more I could spew, but that's what's sitting right at the top of my head. I guess all this just to say, if a show runner/writer really just fucking hates the audience they got (instead of the one they wanted), they probably shouldn't have fucking become a show runner/writer in the first place. Either hand it to someone who can actually handle it and listens, or fuck off. I will never understand when shows and plots and characters gets kamikaze'd because of a show runner being pissy and egotistical. Like ????? Grow up. Learn from Bryan Fuller and Hannibal or something.
Sorry for all the rambling, bless anyone who reads this and makes sense of it 😂

2 - Enjoyable Reunion
Part 3
Dr. Redheaded Neighbor
Tag list - send an ask to be added @annieradcliff
“Will, I am really sorry about him. I finally broke myself from the daze he had managed to put me in. I wasn’t expecting to meet him until very late tonight as a surprised outside his apartment door considering we were right across from the other.
Tugging Maxon off of him by his collar it gave Will the chance to move onto his knees opening his arms for my doggy. “Come here, Max. How’s my favorite doggy been huh?” He ran his fingers through his fur causing his tail to wag happily.
“I’m guessing he thought you were following me or something. Given the fact that he was trained to always be aware of everything around us in the field.” I shrugged my shoulders at him.
Will paused his attention on Maxon looking up at me. “Don’t worry about it, Mal. Now come here and let give ya a welcome home hug.” He opened his arms wide out for me.
“I’ve missed you, Halstead.” I giggled flinging my arms around his neck and he buried his face into my hair holding me against his chest for a few seconds.
Maxon barked feelings left out causing us to separate from one another when Will ruffled a hand through his fur for a second time. “Since you guys just got in. How about I take you out for dinner?”
“Awe, Will. That’s awful nice of you.” I replied missing his kind gestures like this reminding me of the night we first met at the apartment building.
He eyed my bag sitting at my boots. “We could drop your stuff off and then head out. I’m not sure Molly’s will let Maxon inside but there should be some other places.”
“Hang on a sec. I have to ask how you ended up getting here at the same time as us. I mean I didn’t text or call you before we landed that would have given you enough time.”
He explained. “We had a patient call in to 911 and said they couldn’t make it to the hospital without help. I was just about to head back actually before I got tackled by your dog.”
“I am really sorry about that.”
He raised his hands up in front of his chest. “Stop apologizing, Mallory.”
“But if he had done that to someone else, they would have been really pissed. So, I just feel bad.”
He sent me a bright smile. “Good thing you know me. Now are we getting dinner, or would you rather knock off those heavy boots on a couch and I’ll see you when I get done with my shift.”
“Hmm both options sound good to me. How about this we flip a coin and that decides what we do.” I suggested figuring the waiting would kill him. He was very smart, but I always kept him on his toes.
Will rolled his eyes reaching into his wallet taking out a coin. “Call it.”
“Heads.” I cheered watching him flick it off his thumb and into the air.
Will caught it in his other open palm. “Okay it’s head. So which option did you choose?”
“You get to take us out for dinner.” I sent him a cheecky grin with my hands behind my back leaning back and forth on my tippy toes.
He nodded reaching down at the same time as me grabbing the straps of the duffel bag that had my gear in. Along with my backpack that I was carrying on my shoulders until I caught up with Maxon. “Ah ah. Let me get this. And I’m paying for dinner no exceptions.”
“Alright Halstead.” I held my hands up in surrender watching him start walking forward and I followed him. Maxon barked getting up and following my hip on the other side of me.
By the time we had taken my stuff up and I had changed out of my clothes it was getting late in the evening. Will had called his boss and saying he had a family matter come up so he couldn’t come work in the ED tonight. Will decided to hang out on the couch with Maxon until I got changed. Opening the door I wissled making my dog lift his head up from his paws and peeking his head over the edge of the furniture. “Does this seem okay for tonight?”
“You look great to me.” Will shifts in his spot on the coach looking back at me.
I had switched into a tan tea shirt that had sleeves that went down to my elbows. Leaving my hair loose compared to normally having it up in a ponytail. “Awe thanks. Would you hate me if I said let’s go walk around and maybe get some food truck tacos.” I had kept my cameo pants on since I still had some bandages underneath the metal brace I had on my leg.
“Tacos don’t sound too bad to me.” Will got off the couch and Maxon jumped off the furniture heading to the door with him. The three of us made our way down to the pear and began our walk through the clear boardwalk.
I pause our walk leaning my elbows on the wooden railing my hair was somewhat blowing in my face. “So do you have any special gal in your life?”
“Nah. I’ve made a rule to not date my coworkers.” He put his hands together. “Although I do have this one named Natalie that I’m pretty close with. So what about you?”
I snorted out a laugh. “You think I’ve got time for a relationship when I’m looking for explosives Halstead?”
“I guess that’s a bad assumption on my part.” He chuckled.
“You think.”
He ran a hand through his auburn curls. “So how did you get the brace on your leg then?”
“So bout that. I don’t know how exactly. I’ve got some memory loss from our last mission according to one of the doctors.”
Will touched my hand closet to his. “I’m sorry to hear that.”
“It’s okay. Hopefully I’ll have my answer someday.”
He turns to face me reaching his hand up brushing hair out of my eyes and his palm touches my cheek. “Knowing you you’ll figure it out. You’re pretty smart in my opinion.”
“Thanks, Will.” I replied feeling his gaze focus on mine and my face turned slightly red. We remained standing like that for a few minutes. I definitely had missed seeing him more than I thought I would have, maybe more than friends but I’d never tell him that until I was certain.
Maxon suddenly barked causing us to break away from our current state. “Sorry Maxon. You must be hungry bud.” Will chuckled down at my furry pal.
“Onward to tacos!” I cheered throwing a fist into the air and Will draped an arm over my shoulder tugging me closer heading to the nearest taco truck.

Happy nice ask week!
I saw your post adding to the poems each 911 LS character would love and I ADORED it.
Molly Brodak by Molly Brodak is such a good poem omfg - reading it for the first time reminded me a little of reading Paige Lewis for the first time. I fully accept this is maybe unhinged of me, but really excellent poems make me think of koi ponds? Like interesting on the surface with so many colors and shimmering and shadows happening underneath that I just want to sit and stare at it forever.
Anyway I would love to hear anything you want to talk about re: poetry, but I will also actually ask a question: Have you read any poetry collections recently that you enjoyed? What where they?
Oh I'm so glad!! I love thinking of them because I love getting the chance to share some of my favorite poems hahah
Molly Brodak makes me want to SOB each and every time; especially after reading a classmate of hers calling her, "so talented but haunted". It just makes "I can't hold it and I have nowhere to put it down." that much more of a gut punch.
It's so funny you bring up Paige Lewis because I was just reading one of their poems earlier today! I can't remember which right now, but I know I loved it.
I know exactly what you mean about the koi pond; a lot poetry I love makes me think of the mountains, or the plains. Though that might be due to the fact Someplace Like Montana by Ada Limón is one of my favorite poems hahah.
It also feels like biting a ripe pomegranate; messy but worth it.
My favorite collection of poetry right now is Bright Dead Things by Ada Limón. I was so happy to see her become the Poet Laureate, it was like watching my favorite team win the Superbowl LOL
I also really love My Brother Was An Aztec by Natalie Diaz, Citizen Illegal by José Olivarez, Night Sky with Exit Wounds by Ocean Vuong, Crush by Richard Siken and The Lover's Dictionary by David Levithan
#please feel free to message me if you ever want to talk about poetry! that's actually how i started talking to a lot of people on here 😭#thanks for such a lovely ask!#asked and answered

Overwhelmed
Fandom: One Chicago
Characters: Ellie Halstead, Jay Halstead, WIll Halstead
Summary: Jay and Will's little sister has anxiety, and it's gotten worse. This is how she deals with it.
Warnings: Possible anxiety attack triggers because an anxiety attack is featured in here.
Author's Note: This is based on my own experiences with an anxiety disorder (among other things), and it looks different for everyone. Please, if you feel this way, get help. It can be scary, but I promise you I will always be here to listen.
*Based on the song "overwhelmed" by Royal & the Serpent
“To report suspicious activity….”
“You can call 911 for an immediate response….”
“And there’s still no working cure for the virus….”
“Ugh!” Ellie groaned as she turned off the television and tossed her remote across the room.
She pulled her knees up to her chest and forced herself to take a few deep breaths. No matter which channel she tried to watch, the news blared back at her reminding her of the scary and dangerous things going on in the world and even in her own city.
The sound of an ambulance racing by her apartment building had her throwing her hands over her ears and clamping her eyes shut. She knew she was in sensory overload. With her anxiety as bad as it had been recently, it was bound to show up at some point, but she hated that it was while she was in the one place that was supposed to be her safe space.
Opening her eyes slowly, she looked around and whined as it seemed like every light in the apartment was on, burning her eyes and making her feel like she was overheating.
Tearing off the old sweatshirt of Jay’s that she wore, she walked around her living room while shaking her hands. She was pacing, and though she knew she could call her brothers, she also knew they were both working late that night and opted not to do so.
Another siren went past her building, this time a police cruiser, and Ellie’s ears felt like they would start bleeding at any second. She hurriedly locked herself in her bedroom and jumped into bed, shoving her pillow over her ears. When that didn’t help the noise from getting in, she grabbed the sweatshirt she’d discarded and tied it around her head before slamming the pillow back over her ears.
Now she could drown out all the sounds of the city and rest.
…
Everyone was at Molly’s for the bar’s anniversary party, and it was packed. Ellie hadn’t wanted to go, but she knew that her brothers would bug her until she gave in, so she decided to go for a while.
It was the wrong decision to make.
Like that night in her apartment, every light and noise bothered her. She tapped her nail on her glass as Hailey and Kim spoke about a case they had just finished but stayed quiet.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want to join in, but her anxiety was at an all-time high, and all she wanted to do was go home, pop a Xanax, and sleep away the feeling. She was reminded of her younger years, before Jay and Will had come home, when her father would tell her to get over it and tell her she was too sensitive. She never really paid him much mind, however, as she was always searching for an exit out of wherever they were.
Finally, after two hours of being there, Ellie had had enough. Everyone was packed in too tightly, and the music was too loud. Setting her drink on the table she shared with Jay, Hailey, Will, Kim, and Adam, she spun her head around to search for a way out.
She didn’t hear the voices trying to speak to her until a large hand clamped onto her shoulder, making her jump in the air, her heart beating a mile a minute.
“Ellie? What’s wrong?”
She stared wide-eyed at Jay before spinning and shoving her way unceremoniously through the crowd behind them.
She needed out, and she needed it now.
Everyone at the table stared after her for a second before the boys moved, apologizing to everyone she’d shoved out of the way and following the path she had taken. When they finally got outside, they found her pacing beside the building with her hands shaking.
“Ellie…” Jay tried to get her attention, but she was stuck in her own head.
Will gave his brother a look, and both men blocked her path on either side. Her eyes grew wide as she realized she had no room to move, and her breathing picked up.
“El, it’s okay.” Will’s voice was low and gentle. “Look around you; you’re out of there and out here in the fresh air. Slow your breathing down.”
Her eyes were wide again as she stared at him before trying to take a few breaths. They came out feebly, but they were better than nothing.
“Did you bring your medication?” The redhead asked her and took her purse when she nodded. “May I?”
She nodded again and groaned. “This sucks.”
This time Jay gripped her bicep to help ground her. “Hey, it’s okay. You’re okay.”
Will finally found her medicine and handed her one, but she winced. “I can’t…I don’t have anything to drink.”
Rolling his eyes, Will shared a look with Jay as he headed back for the bar to get her some water as the middle Halstead made her focus on him. “What happened in there?”
She felt her heart start beating painfully again and reached her hand up to grip his. “It was too loud, and there were too many people, and everything was too bright….”
“Hey, it’s okay.” He gripped her tightly and brought her back to him as Will came outside with a glass of water.
“Here. Now take the meds before you make yourself pass out.”
She did as he asked and leaned back against the building, closing her eyes. She knew they were sharing a look, but she didn’t care.
“How long has it been like this?” Will asked her.
She opened her eyes as the roaring in her ears tuned down, and her heart started returning to normal. “Like, how long has it been bad again?” They nodded. “Like two weeks?”
“Why didn’t you call us?” Jay asked, hurt in his voice.
“Because you guys are busy, and you can’t drop everything because I’m nervous about everything under the sun.” She told them. “I’m sorry, you just can’t.”
“But we can try.” Will shook his head. “Have you talked to your therapist?”
She nodded. “My therapist, yes. My psychiatrist, no. We’ve been playing phone tag, and it’s getting annoying. But I’m working on it, and I know now that I can call you, and you’ll get it.”
“Of course, we will,” Jay said earnestly. “You should have told us sooner.”
She shrugged, letting out a cleansing breath. “Well, one thing’s for sure…I’m not going back in there tonight.”
“That’s okay,” Will told her. “I can take you home.”
“You just want to make sure I’m okay tonight, which means the couch is yours.” She joked, knowing he’d insist on staying overnight.
He blushed a little, having gotten caught, but nodded. “Yes, I do worry about you, you know.”
“Thank you.”

This might be an unpopular opinion and I’ll probably regret posting it so if you want a fight just… don’t click the read more.
I’m psyching myself up for the new season and what may or may not happen, and I, personally, could stomach Buddie never going romantic in canon if they would just talk fully and openly about the will.
Out of all the out-of-pocket things they do for and about each other, I can’t square this one away. They don’t really talk about Eddie’s relationship to Buck vis a vis the shooting… but they acknowledge the shooting happened, and there’s a whole arc about how it impacts Eddie personally. And I don’t love how they handled the lightning arc, but part of that is because nothing concrete really came out of it. The gap is the entire storyline, not their relationship specifically.
The will just… vanishes. This monumental action which, even if Eddie had told Buck about it immediately, would have changed his entire life. This man who’s been treated like spare parts since he was a kid, who is seen even by his loved ones as immature and sometimes helpless, who came to Los Angeles with nothing but the Jeep that belonged to the sister who he thought abandoned him…
That man has the cool and confident Eddie Diaz telling him: If something happens that’s so bad even I can’t handle it, not only do you have the skills and strength to still be standing - I trust you, self-identified fuckup, with the one thing I’ve done right in my life. If I die and leave you, I’ll still be leaving you with part of me.
But it vanishes. And if you cut that five minute scene from Survivors, their bond might not feel as intense, but because it’s never acknowledged again, it wouldn’t actually affect any storylines. Which, for a pretty major decision for a single dad to make and for someone like Buck to experience, is bonkers and downright maddening.
Maybe it was just a throwaway line, or when/if the execs shit-canned a post-shooting Buddie arc they decided to drop that element all together. But Eddie could have died when he was with Ana or Marisol. Buck could stay with Tommy. Eddie could marry someone else. And if the will really is a secret between them when that happens, there’s no universe where it wouldn’t blow everything up. But no one has ever talked about it.
I’m trying to cope ahead. I’m squaring myself with the fact that the world doesn’t revolve around me, and if ABC hadn’t saved 911 from the grave, we would have ended with a painfully hetero wrap-up for the two of them anyway. And I LIKE Tommy. I like how he and Buck are together. I like them a hell of a lot more than Buck and Natalia. I could live with it.
I just want the characters to acknowledge that Buck didn’t invent the will in his coma dream. It’s real, it’s their bedrock, and no matter what else changes, Buck has a place in Chris and Eddie’s future.

Don’t break it.
Summary
A rainy day. Greg has neither umbrella nor raincoat but he will have to face the rain. A famous umbrella might just save the day.

Mystrade Monday 3.0 #12 "Don’t break it."

Greg looked out the window and sighed. It was pouring and it didn't seem to be getting any better. And of course he didn't have his usual raincoat or an umbrella. Which meant that he would be soaked three times by the time he got from the police station entrance to his car. But he couldn't delay the inevitable either, he had to get out because Molly had called him about the autopsy results on the victim of the current case.
He sighed again, put on his jacket and left his office, ready to face the rain.
Just as he was about to walk through the sliding doors, the receptionist called out, "Detective Lestrade, wait!"
The man walked over to him with an umbrella in his hand and handed it to him as he approached. At Greg's puzzled look, he explained, "This came by courier earlier with this note."
Greg took the umbrella and the note, which was folded in four and stapled together. He thanked the receptionist and retreated to a secluded corner to read the note, not wanting anyone else to see it.
He opened the small piece of paper with only a few words on it. But the brevity of the message still made Greg smile.
Mycroft.
He had known it the moment he had seen the umbrella.
I thought you might need this.
Don't break it.
M.
Greg looked at the umbrella.
It was THE umbrella.
Mycroft's.
The one he never lent to anyone. Except to Greg, apparently.
Greg checked to make sure no one was looking at him, and when he was sure, he couldn't help but make a Mycroft-like cane motion, then lean on the umbrella with his legs crossed, just like Mycroft always did. He laughed at himself when he saw his reflection in the glass door. Where Mycroft's position was the height of elegance, Greg's made him look utterly ridiculous.
He looked again at the note in his hand.
Never, when he had started this relationship, would he have expected Mycroft to be so thoughtful. Though he should have known better, if only by observing the way Mycroft watched over his brother.
And the extraordinary thing was that his attention to detail carried over to his attention to Greg. He had obviously noticed what Greg was wearing when he left the apartment in the morning. Just as he knew that Greg would have to get out at some point. Knowing Mycroft, he had probably decided to send out his umbrella the moment the first drop of rain fell.
As he opened the umbrella to cover the distance from the entrance to his car, Greg almost felt as if Mycroft was protecting him from the rain. Never before had he had someone who cared so much about him.
As he got into the car, he decided that the autopsy results could wait another half hour. He texted Molly to let her know and then stopped at a coffee shop, coming out a few moments later with three coffees. Then he drove on, this time to where Mycroft worked, hoping he would be there.
When he arrived, after passing through security, he found himself in front of Anthea, to whom he immediately handed one of the coffees.
She grabbed the cup greedily and, after sniffing it, said with a half-smile, "A toasted vanilla oat milk shaken espresso! Detective Lestrade, this will open absolutely any door for you." Then she added in a lower tone, "He's in his office."
Greg didn't wait and went to the room in question and slowly opened the door.
Mycroft didn't look up and said, "Anthea, I need another fifteen minutes before the next video conference."
Greg replied in a mischievous tone, "Fifteen minutes will be more than enough for me, that's fine."
Mycroft raised his head sharply as he called out, "Greg!"
Greg approached, placed the coffees on Mycroft's desk, the umbrella against a chair and walked around to get close to Mycroft who had been watching him.
Mycroft asked quietly, "What are you doing here?" Then he immediately added, "Not that I'm complaining, obviously."
Greg leaned over and replied, "I thought I should come and thank you personally. "
Mycroft replied, "What about your work?"
Greg retorted, "Don't worry, I've already warned Molly I'll be half an hour late for the autopsy report."
Mycroft shook his head, "Tttt.... Detective Lestrade is a naughty boy."
Greg countered, "Perhaps you won't mind so much when you see the way I'm going to thank you."
Then, without waiting, he put his money where his mouth was. He took Mycroft's face between his hands and ghosted his lips to his. Then, unable to resist, he crushed his mouth against Mycroft's to deepen the kiss. The kiss was slow and lingering, the kind of kiss that left them dizzy and breathless when they parted long minutes later.
Mycroft's arms wrapped around Greg's waist, pressing him down and forcing him to sit on his lap. Greg slid his hands from Mycroft's cheeks to his back, tightening the embrace. They melted into each other as their lips were only a few millimeters apart, sharing a single breath. They continued to kiss in this lazy way for the little time they had left, determined to make the most of these few minutes.
And much later, Anthea and Molly could see the benefit that those few minutes of delay had had on both men.
All thanks to an umbrella.
