Part 7

Cornering Sensei and bombarding him with reasons it would be beneficial to forcefully teach Moissanite fighting was an experience. The noise in the room skyrocketed a lot. It surprised everyone that Sensei didn't lose patience and unleash his fury upon everyone present.

At the end with manipulative means Sensei agreed to the regime with a condition that Sapphire does the teaching. The said gem nearly cracked in shock. How come they had to do that? It was obvious Red Diamond had more power prowess than them. With an expectant glance from Fluorite, Sapphire agreed reluctantly. This lead to the current situation where the four gems sat in one room.

Sapphire annoyed tried to make them leave, but one glance at Red Diamond's cute face shattered the resolution in mere seconds. Not that they were complaining. So Fluorite with Red Diamond where on the sides as cheerleaders but worse. Somehow.

Moissanite sported an expression of ultimate confusion since they weren't in a classroom getting information shoved down their throat. Plus homework. Sensei did explain that their schedule will get changed as if it didn't change before.

Everyone knew that tension has risen since the fiasco of the Lunarian attack. Glancing at Sapphire, Moissanite concluded that at least they didn't seem affected. Well from the way they still looked at everything as if it personally offended them, they were probably fine.

Moving their head to the two sitting gems direction Moissanite didn't understand why they were here since they haven't done anything. Well Red Diamond shouted a lot of encouragement with overflowing enthusiasm while Fluorite looked like they would rather be anywhere but there.

Redirecting their attention to Sapphire they saw how the blue gem was observing a small stash of weapons. What for? Seeming satisfied with whatever standard they set up Sapphire picked up a lean sword with no jagged lines that was a bit curved to the side. Huh. Looks interesting.

Who even creates them, thought Moissanite quietly in their head.

Casually throwing the sword at Moissanite they didn't dodge in time so got hit in the head with a clank. Red Diamond winced in sympathy. Sapphire didn't even look sorry.

With a sigh Sapphire stood in front of Moissanite and took up a fighting stance. Their eyes sparkled in the light giving off an illusion that they're affectionate. Which was a lie. Their eyes screamed indifference if Moissanite failed which quite frankly, terrified them.

The too shiny for their own good gem took up a stance that clearly could be seen as awful. Oh how they hoped they were doing this right. But looking at the way the other games converted in a frown said it all.

The blue gem came closer and nudged their body parts in diffrent directions relieving the awkward feeling in some limbs. Surprise bloomed on Moissanite's face.

Going back and taking up the same stance the blue gem smirked devilishly at the bright gem and charged. Gracefully as a cat they striked with their sword while Moisanite desperately blocked it in fear. Panic clouded their mind since just a few seconds ago their stance got corrected and now they were getting mauled from their so called instructor.

"You did good, Moissanite!" Red Diamond cheerfully as ever spilled encouragement like a fountain. The terrified gem did not get reassured at all.

"At least the newbie has decent reaction time," Fluorite grumbled out loud with observing eyes.

Snapping their fingers Sapphire redirected Moissanite's attention to them to motion to their sword. Getting back in positions without warning Sapphire charged their sword again.

This time understanding the objective Moissanite with a bit more confidence blocked the brutal attack. Without fail Sapphire looked indifferent and tripped their legs creating a cloud of dust from the fall.

Shock could be seen on the newborn gem's face from the action while Sapphire shrugged, took a step back and got in position.

This continued on for few hours and when Moissanite finally understood something, Sapphire turned the tables in seconds making it difficult for the new born to analyse any predictable movements.

When the training ended with Sapphire disappearing from existence Red Diamond was comforting Moissanite.

"Yeah I can understand the unpredictability. It does get scary sometimes, but soon enough you'll get the hang of it, I know it!" With a smile they explained and comforted Moissanite who appreciated the gesture from the kind, older gem.

"Your movements were stiff as if you were overthinking which can't happen in battle," Fluorite rattled their thoughts not reading the room. At least they were honest to fault.

Moissanite did feel various emotions throughout the training which were confusing, but they had fun. The best moments were when they did something that could be described as acceptable and Sapphire smiled a bit in their direction. Those were secret smiles, but felt like the best praise they could get.

"Yeah,, it was nerve wrenching the whole time since I didn't know what Sapphire would throw out next. I did learn a lot..." with flashbacks Moissanite spilled their thoughts. Red Diamond agreed with a hum while Fluorite grumbled and excused themselves.

"Maybe it is for best that they got put as your teacher, you know. Sapphire can seem indifferent, but we all know they must care about us," Red Diamond explained with a smile while looking up to the ceiling which still looked ugly.

Somehow Moissanite understood that without being around long on this planet.

Sitting on a desk with splinters and fading colour Moissanite listened to Sensei's lesson. By now Sensei should have noticed that anything that has been given as material to study was forgotten. Not intentionally too. Just that the brain discarded it like bad food.

Crossing his arms Sensei observed Moissanite who more or less didn't focus as much as they should. "Would you learn this material better on your own?"

With a shake the gem denied the statement, "No, not really it's just that, I tend to forget the information the second, I don't have to use it."

From the reaction Sensei sported he didn't seem surprised at all. Turning around to pick off something from the shelf, he returned with a small book and put it down on Moissanite's desk.

"You shall document anything and everything in this book to remember information better," with a neutral expression he laid out an explanation.

Silence followed in the room like the depths of the abyss. Moissanite gave Sensei a blank stare of confusion not really understanding the task.

"I can write down the lesson material and situations that happen around me?" cocking their head Moissanite expressed their thoughts.

"Yes, that's true. Anything that stands out as important can be written down. Your thoughts, past experiences, theories so anything goes," counting off examples from his head, he recommends.

With a hum and a conflicted gaze Moissanite looked down at the innocent book that sat there and accepted the task that could yield useful results. Maybe.

"So am I excused?"

Yes, yes you are," sighing Sensei waved off the gem while cleaning up the space from used materials.

The shine returned instantly in Moissanite's eyes as they thanked Sensei and ran off in the opposite direction of the teacher. Sensei smiled softly at the action.

"What's that for?" Curious Red Diamond questioned while sitting next to the bright gem in the grass.

"A book I can write down anything and everything in," with puzzled eyes Moissanite answered not taking off their eyes off the book that still sat empty.

Red Diamond's eyes sparkled from that in excitement, "Wow! You got quite the task handed to you."

Pouting and glancing at the red gem they returned their gaze back at the book, "That may be true, but I have no idea what, I can write down except for learning material," they sighed with frustration.

Shifting their body in to a more comfortable position Red Diamond wondered about the given remark, "Well there must be stuff you find interesting around here. Why not try that?"

Red Diamond's smile widened further from the way Moissanite's eyes widened in shock not realising the given option before, "Oh... I think Sensei said something similar to that before."

Understanding the given fact the red gem nodded, "Yeah, I know what you mean. Sensei can be direct and vague at the same time which can get frustrating at times, but I don't mind," admiration oozing they admitted.

Mind almost blinking out of existence Moissanite stared at Red Diamond in levels of confusion that should not be possible. The red gem didn't seem to notice in their bliss.

After few minutes of silence passed Red Diamond snapped out of their stupor and stood up. Brushing off some leaves and dust the deep rich red gem turned their gaze to the still sitting gem, "Well, I still want to see Fluorite creating swords so I'll leave you to your own devices. Remember to get started on your task!" With a glove covered hand they patted Moissanite's hair in a rush and left humming.

Moissanite still looked in the direction that Red Diamond left longer than necessary. At least the sun didn't grace itself with full power since it was cloudy today making it bearable for everyone being around them. No Lunarians too. It has been stressful anytime they showed up since there were only two capable fighters and no way to know what would happen.

Sensei is still attempting to get it in our heads that whenever Lunarians show up instead of fighting we should fetch him. With little surprise it doesn't seem to work. Well Red Diamond does take Sensei's words seriously, but since Sapphire doesn't nobody fetches Sensei. So that leaves everyone the surprise of knowing that they fought alone.

Moissanite thinking over the situation that still happens started wandering the huge plains if grass with minimal diversity. Subconsciously nearing the place where sat a tree that could fall off any moment with Sapphire sitting on top of it. Somehow the blue gem has taken a liking to a place that Lunarians more or less liked to show up at.

Curiously tilting their head Moissanite observed Sapphire's expression which much to their surprise looked neutral. Almost all the time they sported the look of utmost annoyance or concentration.

Sapphire could hear Moissanite's footsteps far longer than the mentioned gem saw them. Deciding that they pose no threat the blue gem chose to not acknowledge the curious gem's presence.

"Do you always sit here?" Moissanite questioned standing near the not annoyed gem.

"Mostly," giving nothing away they muttered.

Surprise adorned Moissanite's face. Sapphire could talk? Since when? Even in training they stayed silent as death, expressing their displeasure with face expressions.

"Since when did you start speaking?" They had a hunch that about it, but didn't dare give the thought attention.

"First Lunarian attack," curtly looking in the surprised gem's direction Sapphire revealed without a second thought.

Even better! It has been a while since the first attack and they kept it hidden not giving away anything. Did the gem not see the need to reveal information?

The continued staring seemed to bother Sapphire so they frowned making Moissanite panic. "Spit it out," patience running out the annoyed gem barked.

Their voice made shivers run through Moissanite's back. That voice sure can intimidate. Snapping their gaze away from the now speaking gem Moissanite revealed their burning questions, "Why not report these news to Sensei or even the other gem's?"

Sapphire seemed to take the question seriously. At least for a few seconds. Now with a cheshire grin they laid back in the old tree satisfied, "Why should I? I already revealed to you a while ago didn't I? Plus no need to do so since, I can keep it as a surprise for as long as, I wish to," smirking Sapphire revealed.

Moissanite shell shocked at the presented information stared at the smug gem. Wow. That must be a lot of dedication from their side. Something close to stars bloomed in Moissanite's eyes confusing the blue gem. Shouldn't the newborn gem be confused or mad at the presented behaviour? Mentally Sapphire shrugged.

"Why were you even walking around with a book?" Noticing the notebook in Moissanite's hands Sapphire inquired.

Staring at Sapphire who oozed nonchalance they looked down to realise the offending object and sighed. "I got assigned writing about stuff that happens around so, I can remember it better," Moissanite grumbled.

Blinking Sapphire inspected the book a bit closer now, "Wow, so teach came up with something you can do and so early on? Surprisingly..." in a mocking tone they exclaimed.

Shifting in place awkwardly, "Yeah, that's true, but I still have to decide what, I should write down," not looking at the blue gem Moissanite muttered.

Face blank in disbelief Sapphire admired the ocean's waves that never stopped, " Easy. Just write what you see. Even if it's about boring bugs on the ground."

How did they notice that! If gem's could sweat that would be Moissanite right now. So Sapphire is observant? A bit creepy to be honest, but could be useful in the long run.

Sensing an interesting face expression Sapphire turned their head away from the ocean to the diamond-look-alike to end up smirking. "Got spooked? Maybe you shouldn't reflect light so much that anyone can see you hundreds metres away in distance."

"Huh. From that far away?" Moissanite wondered out loud.

"Yes. Sooner or later Lunarians will attack you, because of it. Get it checked out," dismissively they waved their hand.

That's actually thoughtful of Sapphire, thought Moissanite.

Nodding they were about to walk away, but looked back in hesitation, "Can you come with me?"

Shrugging Sapphire jumped down from the tree, stretched and stood next to Moissanite quietly, "Sure. We will have training soon anyway."

Hearing that Moissanite frowned, because remembering how many times they got their butt handed to them doesn't bring pleasant memories. They promised to themselves to get better faster as to not experience more of that.

Looking at the quiet companion Sapphire smirked, "Remembering losing?

Glancing at them Moissanite puffed out their cheeks, "No, but I am good at dodging."

Humming Sapphire did not voice out their agreement. It is true since the shiny gem is fast on their feet. But they still overthink too much in training so ending up freezing in place leaving them vulnerable.

"While speed is a trait necessary in battle, you panic and it shows," listing off facts without Sapphire continued on walking in school's direction.

More or less the entire time was spent analysing Moissanite's fighting until they saw a gem, Fluorite and Sapphire throat felt like it closed up to suffocation levels, but since gems don't need to breathe it didn't matter that much. Well. Except for the fact they were unable to speak. Moissanite noticed the quiet, but didn't say anything about it.

"What are you both doing here? I'm busy here as you can see," not looking up Fluorite grumbled while their pink locks reflected colour on the walls.

Moissanite glanced at Sapphire while they shook their head with a glint in their eyes and motioned with their head to Fluorite. Understanding the hint the gem with two ponytails requested, "Could I get something that would cover my hair so it doesn't shine too much, but not disturb my ability to see?"

Silence set in the room like a thick blanket of snow with everyone hesitant to speak.

"...What," the confusion oozing off the light pink gem made everyone awkward.

"Maybe a see through material and make it into a hat?"

"That doesn't help you know," Fluorite with a deadpan expression commented.

"It's for battle, I know everyone around me tries to not cover their eyes when they are near me then how obvious, am I to Lunarians?" further reasoning Moissanite tried to sway Fluorite's thoughts.

The gears turning in their head Fluorite sighed, "That makes more sense than usual, where did you come up with that?" with suspicion filled eyes they questioned.

"I don't know it just came up," Moissanite innocently answered.

Sapphire mentally applauded Moissanite for their ability to lie even if they probably didn't realise it. Fluorite looked in the blue gem's direction and without trying they shrugged, smirked and turned away in an expression of boredom.

"Alright, alright. You'll have to go to Sensei and ask him about it. Since we don't have extra materials this season you can get extra next season. Now shoo," done explaining they turned their attention back to their project.

Moissanite and Sapphire looked at each other, shrugged and went to the training room.

November 14th, age: 9 months

Sapphire suggested me a hat for my hair.

Red Diamond full with excitement recalled yesterday. Moissanite was allowed by Sensei to join patrol since it was guaranteed for Lunarians to show up. When they did reveal themselves Sapphire and Moissanite took care of it beautifully. They didn't even have to interfere!

Since it became a fruitful day Red Diamond wishes to do a celebration today and outside sun shined brightly and there was a comfortable wind breeze.

"We all should go on a picnic! Sensei can stay meditating since there won't be Lunarians today," almost bouncing up and down Red Diamond laid out her ideas for today.

Fluorite looked interested since they can't go out much, Sapphire put on a front of disinterest while Moissanite just vibed.

"I agree. It's a nice day outside, and I could work on a project while basking in the sun," Fluorite interested in the idea laid out their reasons to go out.

Sapphire just closed their eyes and laid down. Moissanite looked confused at that and gazed at Red Diamond, "We don't need to eat?" a rational thought got voiced.

"That's true, but we can together bask in the sun! Not a bad activity, huh?" the smile they gave melted all hearts present.

Seeing no disagreement they cheered. "Oh, this day will be fun!"

The four gems collectively went to the room with materials for clothes and picked one up. Fluorite excused themselves to go fetch their project while Sapphire went to pick up their weapon. Moissanite chatted a little bit with Red Diamond.

"All right it looks like everyone is here! Hmm.. Sapphire, why are you with your weapon? It's not like Lunarians will show up today since they were here yesterday." Red Diamond questioned innocently.

Sapphire shrugged and pat the older curious gem. Retrieving their arm Sapphire stood next to Moissanite ready to go.

"Then let's go, everyone," Diamond excitedly proclaimed.

Three gems chatted while one quite frankly ignored everyone. Going through a path that has been walked many times the colourful rocks set down the picnic that consisted of a big sheet of soft material.

Fluorite sat on the side to work on their project and join in on the conversation when prompted to.

Red Diamond forced Sapphire to sit in front of them while they destroyed the delicately long braids to rebraid them. Sapphire just accepted their fate. That didn't stop Red Diamond excitedly chat with everyone though.

Moissanite answered, but mostly stayed writing in their book which was beyond the hundred mark.

"It has been a while since the temperature had been this high, huh? Or even the fact that we're outside fully, no? We should create some outfits for occasions like this," Red Diamond continued chatting with no end in sight.

"Maybe, but you'll create the outfits then," Fluorite not wanting any more work chided in.

"Really? You'll just let little poor me do all the work?" Something akin to puppy eyes bloomed on Red Diamond's face.

"If I remember the day you do it, I might help ease the load," Moissanite chimed in the conversation not looking up from their book.

"How kind of you, Moissanite!" Fake tears rolled down Red Diamond's face. Sapphire patted the red gem's hair and smirked in Fluorite's direction much to their dismay.

This continued on for a while. Everyone having a good time and nothing bad happening.

Sapphire noticing three black dots in the sky and fear setting in shaked Red Diamond's leg. The confused gem looked up and gasped making the others look up. Fear stricken in their stomachs they all stood up.

This can't be happening ran through everyone's head simultaneously. Fear took everyone in a vice grip not letting go. There wasn't even just one sunspot, but three! Something out of deepest depths of nightmares.

Today was a wonderful day, just why did this happen, thought Red Diamond.

The only few times in a year I'm outside this had to happen, fearfully thought Fluorite.

Couldn't they attack any other day, irritated Sapphire spat in their thoughts.

Well that's inconvenient, Moissanite quietly murmured in their head.

Two smaller sunspots on the sides with a bigger one in the middle fired off arrows in the standing gems direction.

Looking at each other Red Diamond grabbed Fluorite and dodged breaking off the pink gem's leg in the process. Fluorite's eyes widened in terror.

Sapphire and Moissanite the only one's with a weapon side stepped the bows and jumped on one smaller sunspot. Until Sapphire commanded the reflective gem to retrieve Fluorite's pieces.

"You know, you can't handle them alone!" Dodging a blow of arrows Moissanite nearly screamed in protest.

"That doesn't change the fact they're completely defenceless and you're faster than me either way," plowing through a dozen of Lunarins Sapphire retorted.

That can be said true, because down where Red Diamond dodged around with Fluorite grabbed by the neck sleeve was struggling from the hoard of arrows getting shot down every second.

Fluorite's flush light pink shards where scattered around everywhere since they couldn't handle the force of changing directions. Plus the hound of arrows cut through them like butter.

Red Diamond chipped in a few places wasn't off any better.

"Hold on, Fluorite they will handle the sunspots," Red Diamond tried to calm down both of them with a trembling voice. Oh, how a horrible choice they made not inviting Sensei to this endeavour.

As one Sunspot was getting destroyed in a rush by the duo another one's members were descending down to collect Fluorite's chunks of body.

Red Diamond knew they couldn't pick up the pieces or run away since the arrows would follow and destroy Fluorite's brittle body in a few blows. Everyone knew that. That's what made this more difficult.

"This is horrible," Moissanite grunted destroying the big one on the sunspot. Not having time to rest they dodged the next blow of arrows.

"Agreed. Let's go to the big one, no?" Sapphire chimed in while hurtling back arrows at the offending beings.

"Oh, good they took one out, Fluorite!" Red Diamond informed the nearly shattered gem in their hand.

"That's good," Fluorite agreed wholeheartedly.

Red Diamond seeing how those smiling things picked up pieces of their dear companion ignited anger deep inside them wanting to destroy those things.

"Don't do anything rash, Red Diamond! I know you feel fury from that display, but don't attempt to attack with no weapon!" Fluorite threw out reasons to put back rational thinking in the red game.

Dodging another hurl of gem's Red Diamond looked down to see shards.

Only the throat sat innocently in the red gem's hand. Making it official that Fluorite shattered.

Red Diamond engulfed despair. They tried to dodge the bullets, but their companion that they knew for hundred of years got shattered by the enemy.

Those pesky Lunarians already picked up most pieces while Red Diamond desperately dodged. The two gem's directly where struggling too from the hoard of gems.

Everyone struggled to retrieve the pieces. Until they couldn't. Lunarians closed up like small black balls and disappeared.

They disappeared with Fluorite.

The blue and reflective gem fell in the water from losing the platform to fight.

Despair ate at them deeply. No Sensei in sight.

There's still no Fluorite.
