MULTAN, Pakistan (AP) — The family of a doctor accused of blasphemy said Monday he was killed by police while in custody in southern Pakistan after he voluntarily surrendered following assurances that he would be given a chance to prove his innocence, denying a police account that he was accidentally killed in a shootout.
If true, it would be the second extra-judicial killing in a week, drawing condemnation from human rights groups.
Shah Nawaz, a doctor in Umerkot district of Sindh province, had gone into hiding last week after being accused of insulting Islam’s Prophet Muhammad and sharing blasphemous content on Facebook. Nawaz said someone had hacked his account and that he had not posted anything against Islam.
His family said he was arrested last Wednesday and killed hours later in a fake encounter with police. A mob also burned Nawaz’s clinic on Wednesday, officials said.
Police said Nawaz was killed unintentionally when officers in the city of Mirpur Khas signaled for two men on a motorcycle to stop. Instead of stopping, the men opened fire and tried to flee, prompting police to shoot, killing one of them, police said.
They said it was only after the shootout that officers learned that the slain man was the doctor being sought by them for alleged blasphemy.
“I want justice for my son who was killed when he was in the custody of police,” said Rehmat Kunbhar, Nawaz's mother.
“We asked him to face an investigation after police assured us that he would be given protection,” she said by telephone. “I did not know that police would kill him," she said, sobbing.
She said the posts on Facebook had continued after his arrest, showing that someone had hacked it.
Nawaz's father, Mohammad Saleh, said a mob had snatched his son's body after his death and burned it in front of him. “They sprinkled petrol on the body of my son and burned it, as I watched helplessly,” he said.
Police said they arrested nine people on charges of taking the body and burning it. Noor Mohammad, a police official who is investigating the case, said officers are seeking the arrest of more than 100 people who were involved in violence that erupted before and after Nawaz's arrest.
On Friday, authorities suspended the policemen who had opened fire and killed Nawaz, who were applauded and showered with rose petals by local residents after the killing.
Members of civil society visited Nawaz's village on Thursday and met with his family and put flowers on his grave in a sign of respect and support.
“We are terrified and we cannot send our children to school,” said Niamat Bibi, Nawaz's widow.
Accusations of blasphemy — sometimes even just rumors — can spark riots and mob rampages in Pakistan. Although killings of blasphemy suspects by mobs are common, extra-judicial killings by police are rare.
A week before Nawaz’s killing, an officer opened fire inside a police station in the southwestern Pakistani city of Quetta, killing Syed Khan, another suspect held on accusations of blasphemy.
Khan was arrested after officers rescued him from an enraged mob that claimed he had insulted Islam’s prophet. The police officer who killed him, Mohammad Khurram, was quickly arrested. However, the family of the slain man later said they pardoned the officer.
Under Pakistan’s controversial blasphemy laws, anyone found guilty of insulting Islam or Islamic religious figures can be sentenced to death — though authorities have yet to carry out a death sentence for blasphemy.

[ad_1] GG News Bureau New Delhi, 26th Oct. Controversial seer Yati Narasinghanand Giri has released a video calling on the Yogi Adityanath government to release him from what he claims is “illegal detention,” asserting that he needs to respond to a public interest litigation (PIL) filed against him. The PIL, lodged by Muslim scholar Mohammad Yusuf, secretary of the Hazrat Khwaja Garib Nawaz Welfare Association in Maharashtra, was submitted just two days prior to Narasinghanand’s video appeal. In the video, which was shared with the media by Dr. Udita Tyagi, general secretary of the Yati Narasinghanand Saraswati Foundation, Narasinghanand expresses concerns for his safety, alleging that he may be targeted by “trained killers.” He emphasized his desire to clarify his controversial remarks regarding the Prophet Muhammad, stating that he needs access to authentic Islamic texts and literature to collect evidence before he dies. Earlier this month, Narasinghanand was booked for hate speech following comments made during a program in Ghaziabad on September 29, which sparked widespread protests. The PIL filed by Yusuf and Zakir Husaun Mustafa Shaikh, both Mumbai residents, seeks the removal of Narasinghanand’s alleged hate speech from all social media platforms, further intensifying the ongoing controversy surrounding his statements. Ruling coalition in Punjab loses 27 reserved seats amid controversy
Tumblr media
The political landscape of Punjab witnessed a seismic shift as the ruling coalition, spearheaded by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), suffered a significant blow, losing 27 reserved seats in the provincial assembly. The turmoil unfolded when Speaker Malik Mohammad Ahmed Khan suspended 24 women and three minority Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs), disrupting the assembly’s proceedings.
This move, stemming from a point of order raised by opposition lawmaker Rana Aftab of the PTI-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), has thrown the assembly into disarray.
The controversy surrounds the allocation of reserved seats, with the Supreme Court intervening to suspend the Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision regarding the allocation of seats to the SIC. The opposition argued that the SIC had neither contested elections nor submitted a list of nominees for the reserved seats.
Speaker Khan, after seeking legal opinions, ruled in favor of the opposition’s argument, leading to the suspension of the 27 members.
Among the suspended MPAs were representatives from various parties, with the majority belonging to the PML-N. The suspension has not only disrupted the functioning of the Punjab Assembly but also has ramifications for the ruling coalition at the national level. With President Asif Ali Zardari summoning the National Assembly session, a similar scenario is expected to unfold, further destabilizing the government. The allocation of reserved seats has been a contentious issue, with the ECP withholding notifications due to disputes over seat distribution. This dispute has now spilt over into the provincial and national assemblies, threatening the stability of the government Read More…

Time: 8:00 PM IST
Venue: Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore
The Fourth Thriller: Lahore's T20 Match Between Pakistan and New Zealand
The highly anticipated fourth T20 clash between Pakistan and New Zealand (PAK vs NZ) is marking its presence on April 25th 2024 in the city of Lahore with the series standings tied at 11. Following two riveting contests in Rawalpindi this upcoming fixture holds the promise of being a thrilling affair under the influence of multiple critical determinants.
Pakistan's Opener-Heavy Batting Strategy
Pakistans batting success revolves around the performance of openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan renowned for their consistent establishment of strong partnerships. A key factor lies in their skills to handle the initial swing phase crucial for setting up a competitive team score.
The Bowling Depth of New Zealand
Despite the absence of key players in the IPL the bowling strength of New Zealand stands out. Spinners Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi together with pacers Lockie Ferguson and Adam Milne are well placed to capitalize on the late turning conditions of the Lahore pitch.
The bowling attack of Pakistan
Pakistan's bowling prowess spearheaded by the fiery Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf is all geared up to give New Zealand's top batting lineup a solid challenge. How they excel at delivering slower balls during the crucial death overs and the crafty left arm spin of Mohammad Nawaz could play a defining role in breaking key partnerships.
New Zealand's Striking Ability
New Zealand boasts a formidable batting lineup anchored by seasoned campaigners such as Martin Guptill Kane Williamson and Glenn Phillips. The teams prowess in efficiently rotating the strike and capitalizing on loose deliveries will play a pivotal role in their pursuit of challenging substantial targets.
Home Advantage of Pakistan
Playing amidst the bustling streets of Lahore Pakistan the team will delight in the unwavering passion exuded by their dedicated home crowd and the reassuring embrace of the familiar pitch conditions potentially propelling them to a competitive advantage.
New Zealand's Adaptability
New Zealand is renowned for its adeptness at handling pressure situations. Their proficiency in chasing targets in T20 matches is exemplary showcasing their seasoned approach to navigating tense encounters.
Prediction
It's hard to call this contest. With their respective advantages and disadvantages, the two teams are evenly matched. Here are two scenarios that could occur:
Scenario 1: India Triumphs
Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan orchestrated a remarkable opening partnership showcasing their synergy and cricketing prowess. Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf unleashed havoc on New Zealands top order establishing early dominance for Pakistan. Mohammad Nawazs spin expertise in the pivotal middle overs played a pivotal role in steering Pakistan towards a triumphant victory.
Scenario 2: New Zealand Wins
Following a promising start by Pakistan's opening batsmen their middle order encountered difficulties restricting them to a modest total. In reply New Zealand's opening pair comprised of Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson established a strong platform.
The late innings contribution of Glenn Phillips injected excitement driving New Zealand to a thrilling victory by a narrow margin securing a 21 advantage in the series.
Who is going to prevail?
The team that handles pressure expertly and minimizes errors is positioned for success in this riveting edge of your seat clash to be decided solely by the final delivery.

After losing to South Africa in the Cricket World Cup 2023
Pakistan slams Babar Azam, saying, “Massive Mistake From Our Captain.”
After Pakistan lost to South Africa in the Cricket World Cup 2023, captain Babar Azam came under fire from legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram. After making a strong start to the run chase, South Africa lost wickets in droves, but Pakistan was unable to disrupt Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj’s last wicket partnership.
Tumblr media
Babar passed the ball to Mohammad Nawaz after the pacers had completed their allotted overs, but Nawaz ultimately let up a vital boundary that sealed the victory for South Africa. After the game, Akram claimed that although people would point the finger at the bowler, Babar, the captain, will ultimately bear the punishment. Babar was seen yelling at Nawaz.
“Towards the conclusion, there were a few errors. It is normal to criticise a team after a loss. Nawaz was handed the last over. Usama Mir had two overs remaining at that point, but I know the entire nation will assault Nawaz. Right then, who was the better bowler? Mir Usama.
Who was more likely to use googlies to trick the tail-enders? Usman. Although he didn’t play well in his first three or four overs, he still managed to get you two wickets. Therefore, Usama ought to have bowled that over before Nawaz. The captaincy was good otherwise. He earned wickets by bowling the main bowlers. However, I couldn’t figure out why he gave Nawaz the ball in that particular over.

His self-assurance was lacking. The ball will always travel down the leg side due to the angle he makes with his release point. Thus, our skipper made a huge error there, he stated on A Sports.
Akram, meanwhile, also emphasised the advantages that Pakistan may get from the game and heaped admiration on Mohammad Wasim and Haris Rauf for their bowling exploits.
“They turned it into a game. Haris bowled with all his heart. It was encouraging to see Wasim have an influence in this match. We’re all aware of his potential, but he wasn’t given many opportunities. He did really well today. He bowled over 140 routinely, but at a faster pace. He gave the South African batters some difficulties with his stroke.”

"Cricket World Cup 2023: Unbelievable Fielding Mishap Shakes Pakistan's Mohammad Nawaz - Must-See Video!"
Pakistan’s fielding performance in the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023 has been heavily criticized, and they once again suffered a series of errors during their match against South Africa on Friday. The incident occurred when Temba Bavuma played a soft shot towards mid-on and attempted a quick single. Agha Salman, the fielder, collected the ball, but a miscommunication led to a wayward throw…
