FINALLY DONE! I made a little emoji head of (almost) every Godzilla design :D
The notable exclusions are ToraGoji (because these are mostly based on an AU I'm working on with a friend, and part of the lore is that Tora doesn't actually look like that, that's just how the Americans decided to depict her in their movie about her, so my emoji for her is what she "actually" looks like), Hannah Barbera Goji (because in the lore, he's ToraGoji's dad and isn't seen), an Gyura Goji (because I just don't like his design at all, sorry u,u )
But ye a full list of who's who is under the cut ^^
Shodai - Gyakushu - King
Mosu - Daisenso - Musuko
Soshingeki - Megaro - 84
Bio - Ghido - Bato
Rado - Moge - Desu
Burning Desu - Mire - Gira
Sokogeki - Kiryu - Final
Gare - Shin - Ani
Doughe - Reku - Taka

My Top 5 Favorite Godzilla Designs
(poll at end)
I used to say that Millennium Godzilla was my favorite design for the character, but that might not be the case anymore. I still love it, but after thinking about for a good long time, I have found that there are designs that I like better. And I finally narrowed down my top 5 favorites. So here it is. My Top 5 Favorite Godzilla Designs
#5. Millennium Goji.
More specifically, his look in Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla and Godzilla Tokyo SOS, AKA "KiryuGoji." The jagged elements and wolf-like face are very sleek, the golden eyes really pop, the teeth are nice and visible, it has pretty much everything going for it. The one thing it's got going against it, and this is just a personal thing for me, is the size. Of all the designs in my top 5, this one is the smallest at a mere 50 meters. Some may argue that that's how big Godzilla should be, but personally, I like my Gojis in the neighborhood of 100 to 120 meters. But aside from that, Millennium Goji is fantastic
#4. Monsterverse Goji
More specifically, his design in 2019 and 2021. It's big, it's menacing, and it looks like it could be an actual animal. Sure the head's a bit small and the teeth could look better, but it still works.
#3. Gemstone Goji
This design is brilliant, in my opinion. It's like a perfect blend of Heisei Goji and Monsterverse Goji. Sometimes the skin looks less like scales and more like lumpy, gray warts. It's not bad, but it can be a little distracting. Most of the time, however, it's not a problem, and this Goji definitely fits with the narrative Gemstone is creating. If they make more media with this design, I am game.
#2. Heisei Goji
You can't go wrong with what is, arguably, the most recognizable design Godzilla has ever had. Some even consider this the definitive design for Godzilla, and I can't say I disagree. Most days, you hear the word "Godzilla," and Hesei Goji comes to mind, especially his look in Godzilla vs Spacegodzilla, AKA "MogeGoji," with his enormous size, expressive eyes, two rows of teeth, and bulging muscles. My only two drawbacks is that sometimes the shoulders are a bit to slim, and sometimes the legs seem a little too massive. It's not a deal breaker, mind you, but it can be distracting from time to time. Still, the Heisei era does have, arguably, the most consistent and recognizable design, and it's definitely makes the top 2.
#1. Final Goji
I have thought about it the entire time I was making this list, and I think I can safely say that Godzilla's design in Godzilla: Final Wars is my personal favorite. The red eyes, the teeth, the longer ears, the slim yet powerful build, it all works. Is he as powerful-looking as Heisei Goji? Not really. Is he as imposing as Monsterverse Goji? No. But something about this design strikes a near-perfect balance for me. Not only that, but Godzilla's personality in this film is great. Godzilla feels like a battle-hardened rōnin warrior with a chip on his shoulder. And now that I think about it, this Goji might be the most powerful. He goes through the whole movie beating the other kaiju left and right without even breaking a sweat. He's unstoppable. If they made a whole film series with Final Goji and all the other monsters in Final Wars, I would absolutely LOVE it. So yeah, after a lot of thinking, Final Wars Godzilla is my favorite Godzilla.
BUT WHAT ABOUT Y'ALL?!

Kaiju Week in Review (December 17-23, 2023)
Episode 7 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters laid down significant Monsterverse lore, showing the moment Monarch finally revealed itself to the public (under hilarious circumstances) and how the organization's partnership with Apex Cybernetics began. I did not find May's long-awaited backstory super compelling, to be honest, I think because the proto-Apex company was so thinly sketched. And that Frost-Vark better not be dead. :(
An incredible three Godzilla comics released last week: DC/Legendary's Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong #3 and IDW's Godzilla: War for Humanity #3 and Godzilla Rivals: Jet Jaguar vs. Megalon. The crossover lit a certain section of the Internet on fire with the revelation that Godzilla did, in fact, kill Superman the previous issue. Writer Brian Buccellato chalked it up to Godzilla's atomic breath having "a radioactive signature similar to [K]ryptonite," which as handwaves go is pretty good. Behemoth and Scylla had moments to shine as well, and the issue ended with Lex Luthor discovering a Mechagodzilla eye. Glad Godzilla won't be the only Toho character in the comic; that would've been a bit lame.
Godzilla: War for Humanity remaining a thrilling read, and the Super MOGUERA debuting in this issue is not to be missed. Jet Jaguar vs. Megalon starts with a content warning for depiction and discussion of attempted suicide, which certainly surprised me. It's another strong issue, neither callous nor didactic, and told so efficiently there's plenty of room for the titular bout (which sometimes has felt like an afterthought in Rivals stories). Also, Jet Jaguar talks—something Toho forbade in a comic earlier this year, for whatever reason. Anyway, he's exactly the 'bot you would expect him to be. Hope IDW can keep him chattering in the future.
You've probably seen my flurry of posts already, but it bears repeating: The Boulet Brothers' Dragula, a drag reality competition found on Shudder, aired a kaiju episode. Reality TV isn't my bag, but I thoroughly enjoyed the competitors' kaiju-inspired costumes and performances. I also kept ping-ponging between awe that Americans are just expected to know what a kaiju is now and yelling at the hosts for, say, not naming any kaiju outside of Toho's Big Five.

Hot on the heels of the black-and-white re-release of Shin Godzilla comes Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color, which has to be the best title one of these things has gotten. As with Shin, this is no mere filter; each shot in the film was regraded, with director Takashi Yamazaki striving for "a style that looked like it was taken by masters of monochrome photography." It opens in Japan on January 12; no word yet on whether it will play in any other country.
Godzilla will follow in the steps of pop culture fixtures like The Lord of the Rings and Star Wars with Godzilla: The Official Cookbook by Kayce Baker, due from Titan Books on September 10. (You can tell it's official because he's actually on the cover.) 60 recipes lie within. It's a given that I'm going to buy something Godzilla-related that's this silly; I just have to pick up another cookbook first so it won't be the first one I ever own.
youtube
I was surprised to realize that McDonald's has never done anything Godzilla-related; far less prolific fast-food chains have worked with the monster, from White Castle to Carl's Jr. The first salvo in the campaign was pretty underwhelming—BE@ABRICK figures that can only be won via lottery, with an entirely plain Godzilla. That replica MogeGoji suit looked great in the ad, at least. Tokusatsu is being kept alive in the Godzilla franchise through some truly odd means. The follow-up ad/promo was a lot better, but that's a matter for next week's post.
This is at least kaiju-adjacent—James Wan's long-gestating The Call of Cthulhu movie seems to finally be going somewhere, as revealed in roundabout fashion by a Deadline article. I thought the 2005 silent version was just fine, but presumably this will be produced by his company Atomic Monster, which is long overdue for an actual giant monster movie.

This blog may be about the monsterverse, but 1994 Goji, AKA "MogeGoji," is pretty much my textbook definition of Godzilla.

The MogeGoji suit used in the film Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla (1994). The "Moge-" part of the name derives from M.O.G.U.E.R.A., which was the mecha which assisted Godzilla against Space Godzilla.
The suit was re-used the following year for Godzilla vs. Destroyah. Portions of the suit had strings of red and yellow lights inserted to give the appearance that Godzilla was burning up (aka the Burning Godzilla look). It is also called the DesuGoji suit for this film.
A third utilization of the suit was as the adult Godzilla Junior, who appears at the very end of Godzilla vs. Destroyah.
The major differences between this suit and others of the Heisei-era are: less pronounced neck ribbing, which became prominent in the MosuGoji suit from Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992); a wider neck at the shoulders; and larger eyes to give Godzilla a slightly less menacing look.

This above image is not, I repeat NOT of the Biogoji on set of Godzilla vs. Biollante or the Biogoji/Gidogoji being returned after it was stolen in 1992. This is a still of the Desugoji costume from behind the scenes of Godzilla vs. Destroyer in 1995. The dead giveaway is the blotches on the shoulder, neck, chest, stomach, and thighs where the lights are that create the “burning” effect. Not only that but the Bio/Gidogoji suit doesn’t look much like this (which is a modified Mogegoji suit from Godzilla vs. Spacegodzilla). GODZILLA VS. KING GHIDORAH:
GODZILLA VS. SPACEGODZILLA:
GODZILLA VS. DESTROYER:
As you can see, the 1989/91 suit has a boxier, more rectangular longer-snouted head. Meanwhile, the 1994/95 suit has a rounder, somewhat smaller head that matches the head in the wheelbarrow picture. Not to mention, you can see the glowing effect on the neck matches exactly the same marks on the neck of the suit in the wheelbarrow.

Could you give me MireGoji, but with MogeGoji colors, gills, webbed fingers and toes, smaller spines and a flat, Spinosaurus-like tail? (P.S. consider it a challenge ;) )
Okay so, I just wanna preface this by saying I am super grateful for the requests/asks I get, they really, truly help me get through art block and give me inspiration. So please don’t take this as a “I’m no longer taking requests” post, because I assure you I will definitely still be doing responses to a lot of the questions I get.
But this is... not what I mean when I say I’m open to asks/requests. If you look at the majority of questions I do art replies to, they give me room to explore format and characterization/interactions. Not “Can you draw this exact pose/design/fight scene/interaction, etc?” I like having fun with how I interpret questions, and I can’t do that with something like this. It reads more like a commission prompt rather than a request, if that makes sense. If you want me to draw your hyper specific design or scene, you’re welcome to DM me about commissions. (I’ll be making a commission sheet soon as well.) I don’t want this to sound hostile, as I don’t mean it to come across that way. I just don’t want people be upset wondering why something isn’t getting a response when other questions do. I hope this makes sense! ^^

Someone posed a very interesting question on Reddit. When someone says Godzilla, which design comes to mind first? 🤔
For me I have to say it's Heisei, more specifically MogeGoji.
