A Talk About: Moebius and that goddamn orb of harmony or whatever
The first thing I want to say was that this was awful to look at.
Tumblr media
And don’t come to me with the ‘but Webcore this is an old game’ shit, the first Mario game happened two years before this.
All jokes aside, this is Moebius: The Orb of Celestial Harmony.
In 1985, Origins Systems released this game, its designer being a so called ‘Greg Malone’ (who I can’t find a whole lot on, I only found a hockey player and an actor). It is an adventure game with fight sequences that function like a side scroller fighting game like Mortal Kombat. Though this game is utterly so...painful to look at (and has a cutscene in the beginning that lasts way too long), the actual mechanics of the game are deeply interesting, and the plot is easy to understand.
Just like most games of it’s type your disciple gets a set of stats like dexterity or health, however on top of this there is also Karma, which fluctuates depending on your actions in game. You can also get these sick fireballs after a while if you collect enough experience, and cheese through the rest of the fights.
The plot is easy to understand, which honestly is something that I appreciate. You are a disciple of a headmaster, and must retrieve an orb that another disciple, named Kiemen, had stolen. To do this, you basically train like a motherfucker and get your chakras in line. I’m going to be completely honest: these types of games, where you can grind and become stronger, where every enemy encounter is its own little movie, are right up my alley. If this game got remastered, I’d buy.
But seriously. It needs a glowup. A serious glowup.

Origin's Moebius Box Art and More!
Origin’s Moebius Box Art and More!
During the Development of Ultima 4, Origin Systems had two other games in development, AutoDuel and Moebius: The Orb of Celestial Harmony.  Both came out in 1985, along with Ultima 4, giving the company 3 games published that year.  Both of these non-Ultima games had elements inspired from the previous Ultima games as well as from the ongoing development of Ultima 4.  In today’s post, I want to…
