On the morning of Halloween ‘01, Steve wakes up before Eddie, as he tends to.

He typically wakes up with their three month old, Moe – feeds her breakfast, gets her dressed for the day, soaks up all the time he can get with their girl before he has to head off to work.

Today is special though, seeing as it’s Halloween.

Steve and Eddie had agreed to not do anything big for Halloween this year while Moe is still so little – no trick-or-treating, that is. Steve had suggested getting a sitter for the evening so the two of them can go to that bar they like that does a whole Halloween night every year, but Eddie, like Steve, isn’t all that inclined to do anything that doesn’t also include Moe, so instead they’ll be ordering takeout from their favorite place in Chinatown and watching a horror movie after Moe goes to bed.

Eddie is fine with keeping things low-key this year, mostly because he knows that Steve knows they'll be going all out with all the subsequent Halloweens in their future. What Eddie doesn’t know is that while Steve had been running errands the other day, he just so happened to pass by the baby section of a clothing store, which had their Halloween selection on full display and Steve hadn’t been able to help himself.

Moe is all kinds of smiley this morning while Steve goes through the motions of their morning routine, getting in his fix of baby-snuggles before heading downstairs and feeding her breakfast while he starts up the coffee machine (for Eddie more than for himself – he thought having a brand new baby in the house might be the final straw that tipped him over to coffee drinker status, but he’s still perfectly fine with a cup of tea). She's still all smiles as Steve gets her dressed in the little outfit he’d hidden away from Eddie after he bought it last week – a puffy, quilted yellow onesie with big black stripes and felt antennae on the hood, tiny little white wings on the back, and a felted stinger on the bum. It’s not really a costume – not the way Eddie would define Halloween Costume, anyway, but it’s close enough, and anyways Eddie has always been a sucker for seeing their kid dressed up all cute. It’s a guaranteed home run in Steve’s opinion.

Like he usually does, Steve brings Moe into his and Eddie’s bedroom to wake him up.

“Morning,” Steve says cheerfully as he plops Moe onto Eddie’s chest. Eddie gives a sleepy grumble before his eyes crack open. It only takes him half a second to realize that Moe’s not exactly wearing her normal attire, and then Eddie’s got a big, bleary grin on his face as he takes the whole thing in.

“Are you my little bug, Lucy-Moe?” Eddie says as she scoops her into his arms and plants kisses all over her chubby cheeks until she's got a big drool-y smile on her face and she's making those little sounds that Steve is pretty sure means her first laugh is on its way. Eddie looked up at Steve with something like wonder on his face, "You said no costume."

"Uh, no. I said no trick-or-treating," Steve replied. Eddie leveled an eyebrow at him, so he said, "C'mon, man. It's her first Halloween."

"God, I love you so much Steve Harrington."

Was the only thing Seiza could say to Melonade about her lack of outfits. She was such a cute girl with a nice figure and didn't have a decent wardrobe? But it was quite alright. This big sister ( not really big sister ) would make sure the Servant gets the clothes she rightfully deserves.

"Now then," How to gauge the right amount of frills first, "Melonade," Oh, Seiza finally said that dreaded nickname for Melusine out, "Do you like to go easy or hard first?"

Was she about to start looking like Baobhan with any kind of platform like that? It was hard to imagine any of her fashion sense working on the more subdued nature of Mélusine’s wardrobe but weirder things have happened. Although she couldn’t remember a time it involved her choice of wardrobe…

“Can’t say I’ve ever had the opportunity to try them before.” But there was a first time for everything. “Most of my normal wear didn’t include anything but what i needed to go about my duties.”

Even then a vast majority of what Mélusine did have was usually selected by Aurora or someone else. And her work didn’t ever really call for “looking good” over being a knight…

TRAIL OF TEARS Returns After A Decade Of Silence With New Single 'Winds Of Disdain'

Norwegian gothic metal pioneers TRAIL OF TEARS are back after more than a decade of silence. Their triumphant return kicks off with the title track, "Winds Of Disdain", from their upcoming EP of the same name, set for release on May 24 via The Circle Music.

The single "Winds Of Disdain" is a powerful and emotional exploration of the frustrations and negativity that have gripped the world in recent years. The song channels the darkness of the pandemic and the bleak outlook of today's society, all delivered with TRAIL OF TEARS' signature dark gothic metal sound.

The song features the haunting vocals of Ailyn Giménez García, formerly of symphonic metal band SIRENIA. Alongside García's soaring voice, founding member Ronny Thorsen delivers his distinct growls. The rest of the band features a solid foundation with Runar Hansen on guitars, Nicolay Jørni Johnsen on guitars and programming and Endre Moe on bass. This lineup promises to deliver TRAIL OF TEARS' signature brand of gothic metal with a fresh and dynamic sound.

"Winds Of Disdain" marks the band's first release in over 10 years and signifies a new chapter for TRAIL OF TEARS. They have signed a multifaceted deal with The Circle Music, which will see the release of the "Winds Of Disdain" EP, a full-length album and vinyl reissues of all seven of their previous albums, starting with their iconic 1998 debut "Disclosure In Red".

"We are finally ready to share the results of our work since first announcing our return back in 2020," says Ronny Thorsen, TRAIL OF TEARS founder and vocalist. "We're excited to share our first new single and lyric video with you — and hopefully seeing you out there in concert, soon!"

Formed in 1997, TRAIL OF TEARS quickly gained acclaim with their debut album "Disclosure In Red" and relentless touring alongside bands like TRISTANIA and CRADLE OF FILTH. Over the next decade, they released a string of successful albums, each showcasing their blend of dark melodies, soaring vocals, and heavy riffs. The band also saw lineup changes, with founding member Ronny Thorsen remaining a constant.

Despite critical and commercial success, TRAIL OF TEARS went on hiatus in 2013. However, 2020 saw a resurgence for the band. Thorsen spearheaded a reformation, bringing together both original members and longtime collaborators, completed by García.

8:25 ‘s Ochtends. Mijn wekker ging vandaag al om 7:00. Valeria en ik gaan vandaag naar Positano met de veerpond, die om 8:40 vertrekt vanuit de haven van Salerno. Ik heb niet heel lang geslapen vannacht, want Italianen eten laat en gaan dus ook laat slapen.

Ik ben gisteren met de groene Vespa netjes thuisgebracht. Ik had om 20:00 afgesproken met de Italiaan bij Bar Rosa, een makkelijke ontmoetingsplek. We zijn als eerst naar een park gegaan, dat iets buiten het centrum lag. Het Italiaanse verkeer is verwarrend en chaotisch. Hier halen scooters auto’s van rechts gewoon in. Alles gaat hier op z’n Italiaans.

We hebben een rondje in het park gelopen. Ondertussen werd ik onderwezen in het Italiaans. De Italiaan had gereserveerd om 21:15 bij een Italiaans restaurant. Hij had me de beste pasta ter wereld beloofd. Op de groene Vespa reden we erheen. Bij binnenkomst had ik al gelijk door dat ik de enige niet-Italiaanse was. Dat is een goed teken, maar ook voelde ik me erg zelfbewust. Alsof ik een indringer was en niet zou mogen afweten van het bestaan van dit restaurant. [Edit om 19:01: Ik kom er nu achter dat ik het restaurant al had opgeslagen in mijn Google Maps. Niks ernstigs dus.]

Helaas weet ik niet meer welk voorgerecht we aten, maar wel weet ik dat het werkelijkwaar verrukkelijk/heerlijk/zalig/délicieux/deliciozo en vegetarisch was. Echt waar, het was onbeschrijfelijk lekker. Daarnaast is het fijn als er voor je besteld wordt en je het zelf niet hakkelend hoeft te doen. Mozzarella met basilicum en plakjes tomaat (hoe heet dat ook alweer?) en daarna nog beiden een portie spaghetti met zeevruchten (ik maakte hier een uitzondering op mijn vegabeleid, want eenmaal in Italië dient men ook een beetje te genieten, nietwaar?) Uiteraard kon ik zo veel eten niet op. Geen idee hoe de Italianen zoveel kunnen eten: een aperitivo, een voorgerecht, een hoofdgerecht, een nagerecht én koffie? En er dan ook nog zó bijlopen?

Na het diner zijn we naar een van de havens van Salerno gereden, bij Piazza della Liberta, en hebben we daar langs de kade gezeten. Vanaf deze haven konden we de rest van de verlichte stad zien. Uiteindelijk ben ik netjes thuis afgezet en naar bed gegaan.

19:30 | Ik eet nu een heel saaie pasta (zelfs voor mijn doen) met tomaat en kikkererwten. Dit omdat ik niks anders in huis heb en omdat ik amenooitniet nu boodschappen ga doen. Niet eens omdat het regent, maar omdat ik best moe ben na onze dag in Positano. Op de terugweg ben ik in de boot in slaap gevallen en nu nog voel ik het schommelen.

Het was eigenlijk helemaal niet de bedoeling om zo vroeg weer terug in Salerno te zijn, maar het weer sloeg ineens om. Er was wel enigszins regen voorspeld, maar niet veel. Eenmaal aangekomen in Positano begon het te onweren. Valeria kocht bij de eerste de beste winkel een paraplu voor vijftien piek. Het werd ons toen duidelijk dat Positano zó toeristisch is dat de plaatselijke ondernemers niet schromen om de toeristen uit te buiten (snap ik wel; toeristen zijn vreselijk irritant). Zo bleek later dat – zelfs voor Nederlandse standaard erg duur – je al gauw €30 voor een club sandwich of Cesar salade  betaalt en minimaal €18 voor een pasta. Een glaasje huiswijn is €9 en een glaasje sjampie kost je €30. Let op: ik verzin dit niet. Ik vraag me af hoe de zaken op Capri gaan…

Uiteraard had ik domweg niks te vreten meegenomen, en Valeria alleen een pakje Tucs en een proteïnereep (wisten wij veel!?), dus was ik genoodzaakt ergens pasta te consumeren. Alle restaurants waren duur. Peperduur, alsof je van een gouden bordje at (was echter niet het geval, maar dat terzijde). We bestelden ravioli, die erg smaakvol was. Ondertussen regende het steeds harder en harder en knalde het boven onze hoofden. Stof en dennennaalden (of iets dat daarop leek) waaiden in ons eten. Een hele dag doorbrengen in zulk rotweer? De beslissing was al snel genomen: de eerstvolgende boot terug naar huis proberen te nemen. We hadden immers tickets gekocht voor de terugweg. Zonder enig probleem drongen we ons als verstekelingen met de rest van de natte masse op de boot. In de rij raakten we aan de praat met een groepje Amerikanen uit Alabama met vuilniszakken op hun hoofd en maakten een foto met hen voor ons plakboek.

Nu begon onze ochtend in Positano echter beter dan het verhaal doet vermoeden, want nadat de eerste regenbui voorbij was brak een zuinig zonnetje door. Het was aangenaam genoeg om een zonnebril op te zetten en rond te scharrelen in het overvolle centrum. Kronkelstraatjes met hordes toeristen en schattige boetiekjes met vanallesennogwat. Overal waar men keek kon men citroenen zien. De Amalfikust staat bekend om haar citroenen. Nu weet ik zeker dat ik in een vorig leven een Italiaanse was, want mijn obsessie met citrusvruchten werd hierdoor alleen maar aangewakkerd. Citroenkaarsen, citroenzeepjes, citroensnoepjes, citroen huisparfum, limoncello, schorten met citroenmotief, sieraden met citroenen bedeltjes, bikini’s met citroenen, citroenen bij de groenteboer die groter dan mijn hand waren, keramiek met citroenen. Alles in Positano was geelgekleurd. Alles in Positano was in feite indrukwekkend mooi en beeldschoon, heel pittoresk. Alleen jammer van de vele toeristen die rond krioelden als mieren. Goed voor de economie, dat wel.

Bij een winkeltje kocht ik parfum uit Positano. Bij een ander winkeltje kocht ik een keramieken schaaltje in de vorm van een – je raad het al – citroen. Bij nog een ander winkeltje kocht ik zes prachtige aquarel ansichtkaarten. Als het allemaal niet zo duur was, had ik zowat heel Positano leeggekocht. Gelukkig beschik ik over enige zelfbeheersing, maar voor keramiek heb ik een zwak.

Valeria en ik hebben ook nog wat cultuur gesnoven. In de kerk. De Chiesa di Santa Maria Asunta, niet te missen in het kleine stadje. Toegang was gratis, dat dan weer wel. De kerk had mooie gouden details; vooral de gouden sterren op het plafond vond ik mooi. Verder dacht ik vooral dat het heel vreemd moet zijn voor de bewoners in Positano dat al die toeristen alleen maar de kerk bezoeken om een leuk kiekje te maken voor op Instagram. Wat zouden de mensen uit de achttiende eeuw wel niet van ons denken als ze ons nu zo zouden zien? Nog raarder is het feit dat je een recensie over de kerk op Google Maps kunt achterlaten. Eigenlijk heel raar toch? “De mis was erg saai vandaag, maar de pastoor is wel vriendelijk. Ik sla de volgende mis wel even over. Het is hier wel altijd gezellig met Kerst, maar houd rekening met drukte.” Of zoiets.

De kerk is inderdaad een uitermate geschikte plek voor contemplatie, dacht ik zo.
