Hardly a day goes by when I don't think about my Popple project. I'm stuck not having the mental focus to learn how to finish out the head scan and turn it into a full doll head model. But I know it's within my general capability to learn! Just not lately with constant interruptions and migraines.
I know I could absolutely pay a very reasonable amount for someone else to finish it for me, but I haven't quite given up on doing it myself yet. So I stare at the half completed parts day after day.
I'm trying to figure out the neck hole now. I've started several times over the past month(s) only to be interrupted by T smashing his face on tile and chipping a front tooth off, etc etc etc
I just don't have a brain that can get into a learning flow in this stage of life? 😂 I have a brain that can go around in circles endlessly wanting to do the thing but not sitting down and doing the thing 🥲🤷🏻♀️🧠
But! I am suuuuper happy with the parts I've slowly made/accumulated! The fuzzy bodysuit! The puffy tail! The sweet ass skates! The perfect dress! The Xinyi 1/3 body shortening!
Someday I'll get them all together on one doll 😒 And then make 4+ of them 😈

Body thoughts and review:
So you might be wondering why on earth I’d get a 1/4th doll anyway? I have limited space and my collection is 1/6th and 25cm with a few 17cm Novi Stars.
3 reasons: First I have loved having Gooliope around but her S shaped spine and twisted neck make it nigh impossible to make her look like she’s comfortable. It bugged me enough that she’s up for sale, even though I really like her now simplified face and hair. Second: the search really began with the very large Rainbow Surprise Slime 10″ head, it’s a great match stylistically, I may still attempt to dye this body or keep an eye out for one of her paler sisters and do a pinky beige dye instead. Third: I’ve been thinking about Big Pullip, the requiemart experiment, a 60cm seemed too big but I think 42cm might just be the sweet spot. It would require some serious modding for which the neck knobs on Ye Luoli or Xinyi are better suited.
Why not go with Obitsu? I don’t like the aesthetic, already frustrated with the various obitsu 27s I maintain for sis and myself, they fitted a need at the time but the LIV and MTM Curvy bods have been so much less hassle. (Also if i’m going to sink $200 into anything - the price jump from 1/6 to 1/4th is wild - it’d be my first resin BJD or a set of playline dolls.)
Why not go with Ye luoli directly since they have a better body and appear to be the source of this body? I tried. Havn’t been able to find a retailer outside of chinese taobao.
Why not Playline? I’ve tried. Endless hair is not great and $75 for the AA version. DCSHG 18″ by Jakks Pacific never came to europe as far as I can tell. Disney dolls are $$$ in france.
So how cheapy is it? it weighs 255g and is mostly hollow except for hands feet and joints. Surprisingly well made for the price: there are scuffs, seams, shiny marks everywhere that magic eraser should take care of but aside from clicking the neck together on arrival, so far nothing’s fallen off and I’ve dropped it twice. There are stress marks to the collarbone area and small gap at each lower hip. The joints and vinyl pieces are a slightly different colour and shinyness to the matte ABS parts. It stands and holds poses very well. It is wide. It’s an asthetic that isn’t typically considered graceful but athletic and that’s part of what drew me to this body in the first place: an adult shaped body that isn’t ultra slim? great!

Popple suit version 2. It turned out a bit short in the sleeve and quite a bit short (tight as heck up and down) in the torso. But the material has a tiny bit of stretch so it goes on ok.
I don't have a Popple head ready yet so have some fun emojis for now 😅
She can wear Our Generation clothes pretty well! They're still a smidge big but works fine.
The back zipper is a separating zip, to go around the tail ok once it has a huge puffball permanently attached. I wouldn't be able to shove it through a buttonhole type opening. So the whole back opens, put on, then connect the zip above the tail.

I've been thinking a lot about the Barbie Cutie Reveal dolls and making fuzzy catsuits for my Popples.
I finally was able to brain enough to work on it today, and here's test 1. The furry fabrics I have aren't very stretchy so a form fitting suit was out (and would probably have looked weird anyway). What I made isn't as puffy as a mascot or the Cutie Reveal sweatsuits, but sorta in between.
Made the suit with footies, and now in a happy turn of events, 18" doll shoes (AG, OG, My Life As) fit on decently and look cute :)
Gotta figure out how I wanna do the neck and sleeves next.
(Edit: I should clarify I intend for the dolls to wear clothes OVER these suits. So they're kinda like a stain protecting Dollfie Dream suit? Meant to be a base layer.)

I'm an extremely lucky recipient of @dollsahoy 's 60cm downsizing, and I'm so happy 😭
This clown dress is perfect for several of my dolls, but Cyclops Girl has claimed it first. It's so good 🥹 Y'all won't believe how weighty this dress is in the hand. It makes the doll feel way more expensive wearing it. So much trim!
I'm gonna have a lot more to say about this package. 😍

Warning: Cyclops doll
I have a little better understanding about superglue now, and how it could be used to help the cracks where the epoxy joined to the vinyl. But I'm not redoing this head any time soon 😅
I still don't know why I made her eyeball such a mismatched aesthetic to her hair and nails, haha. Just how it went at the time 🤷🏻♀️ So much glitter and jewels 😍

Ok so I finally dyed the Xinyi 1/3 body and here are my findings.
It definitely warped, not as bad as some other bodies but enough to interfere with joints and look bad. Shins and forearms are rippled looking.
The usual joints are a different material and take the dye differently.
Worst is the upper torso, it squashed out of shape so much that the lower torso doesn't fit into it and the shoulders don't work. If I hadn't already cut apart the waist joint, perhaps that would have prevented warping in that area. Shoulders still no go.
Elbows and knees surprisingly fine. Hips completely floppy. Wrists and ankles fine.
I don't think I'll do this again but if I did, I'd try like three bottles of dye and lower heat. Try to get the color on there as fast as possible and pull the doll out. Save any modding that might remove supports for afterwards. *nods*

Finally put back together. Still not totally sure the body is workable for me.
Cons: Color rubs off on clothes/parts sometimes (never experienced this with a dyed resin BJD but knew it was a possibility), shins and forearms rumpled/distorted
Pros: The yellow is exactly what I wanted, the height is exactly what I wanted
I guess the color rub off is the biggest factor for me at the moment. I don't want an experimental body to accidentally ruin any of my other treasured parts or clothes. I mean I could make a bodysuit to contain it but then what would be the point of the dye. And the hazard would just be fomenting inside the suit sack, waiting to spring forth
Onnnn the other hand this was a lotta work and the bodies aren't cheap and it's cute now (maybe just in my mind)

Wore full sweatsuit w hoodie outside to brave the mosquitos and finished dremel-ing out the latest shortened body.
Here it is just stacked (not strung together or wrist/ankle holes made yet) next to an unmodded body. I think it works surprisingly ok for not having any length removed from the thighs. I took more off this one than the previous one and wasn't really sure it'd be ok.
The wrists look bad, but I'm putting more Minnie hands on this one so we'll see if that distracts enough that it looks ok later :)

Got the waist joint stopper in, just needs to cure for a day then possibly can string her back together finally. The hot glue for the wrist/ankle posts cured holey, so need to top those up ...

After the kids were in bed, I sat around and watched doll sewing youtubes and slowly got some more done on Popple's dress. Sleeves on and ruffle on.
I'm starting to realize I'm going to need to paint at least her orange ear. It needs to be less saturated or bright.

Re-boiled the upper torso and squeezed it really hard to reshape, then put it under cold water. Before and after.
It's better shaped but I dunno how much more the support struts will take before they pop open, with how much stress they've been put under. And the chest dye seems to have lightened up due to the reheating? Or maybe I scruffed it off with the oven mitts I was using?
Well, it's going from unusable to mayyybe usable in my book, at least. :)

I ordered these glasses on aliexpress on March 13 and they arrived today April 16.
They are perfect on Poochie 😭 They even have working hinges on the legs.
Mattel art for reference (she often wears her sunglasses up on her head):

Faceup done! It's not perfect but these Shibajuku mods have been lessons in "Finished (and cute!!!) vs Perfect." So I love how she looks overall!
I think I need to hotglue her eyes in place. Putty just isn't holding them well enough.
And here she is in a blue wig just for fun.

Could use a little more work but still!
