A Plant on the Road to Baldur's Gate - The Party Smokes Weed fic - final chapter is up!

So far the focus has been on Lae'zel and Shadowheart, but this chapter adds in more Minthara and Wyll banter (because they are incredible and I will sail this canoe off a cliff if need be) and some background Tav and Karlach and Bloodweave.

This'll probably be the furthest I go in the BG3 timeline for a minute - 'Saved (Against her Wyll)' needs to be finished, and meeting Tavomir's mom is in like... act 1.

💠Using Lae'zel kisses with Astarion and Tav with Photomode Mod.💠

I like to shoot kissing scenes with Astarion. His animation is always excellent. He is very gentle in these scenes, I love it. A very small excerpt is shown here because all my videos are very large. You can watch the full video on my YT channel.

Sadly, the kiss animation didn't work out fully. I tried to capture it as much as possible before their faces mashed together too much.

Fav parts of this whole scene were the ear nibble and the back of his hand caressing hers. The latter is another animation error due to Lae'zel's frame being a little different than Dammon's. But I would like to think he did that on purpose as he's a little self-conscious about his calluses from work.

How to Romance Astarion: A Guide to Everyones Favorite Vampire Boyfriend

CONTAINS SPOILERS

*UPDATED OCT. 9* IF I MISS ANYTHING PLEASE LET ME KNOW, I WILL ADD IT.

A lot of people seem to be having issues romancing Astarion, and as the resident Astarion expert, I am here to help.

Many people are scared of the consequences of Astarion-favored choices. In reality, you DO NOT have to be evil to romance him.

I would characterize Astarion as chaotic-neutral. He is self-serving, but he can stray to the path of good later on.

I use an approval mod, which showcases the amount of approval and or disapproval from a choice. Download here.

Many people fret over the evil choices that will only net Astarion +1 approval, those can be safely ignored and still retain high approval.

The major approval you want to aim for is +5 and +10, which mostly comes from personal dialogue.

My advice is to say what he wants to hear, please his ego in personal conversation, be a little mean sometimes. He is a snarky and egotistical man. His shell is hard to break but you can get there. Be playful with him.

A WORD OF NOTE: Using the mod above, you can see there are some dialogue options that don't grant either approval or disapproval, if you're unsure on which to choose, go the neutral route.

MAJOR APPROVAL CHOICES

Act 1

Let him bite you. For those scared of the debuff, use lesser restoration and he can bite you all he wants without repercussion.

For easy approval early on, make Lae'zel say "please" when you rescue her.

When Mattis gives you the ring, just take it for yourself, and if you don't want to be evil to a child here, look at Mattis' stock.

Help Astarion to decipher his scars.

Agree with him in private conversation, you don't even have to do what you say you will do.

Let him read the Necromancy of Thay, this gives a +5 approval.

Avoid talking to Zevlor, you will be presented with the option to promise you'll save the grove. If you do not talk to him, you won't lose approval.

Let Abdirak beat you, this nets you +5 approval.

Make crusher kiss your feet.

Accept his advances during the Tiefling party.

Act 2

Help him with his proposal to Raphael. Slay the Orthon. There is a chance he will leave the party permanently if you do not.

DO NOT let Araj bite him at Moonrise. This will open up his Act 2 romance.

When talking to Disciple Z'rell and she is invading your mind, distract her with your lusts for Astarion.

Drink with Thisobald Thorm in the Waning Moon.

Act 3

Defeat Cazador, you do not have to let him ascend. If he doesn't ascend, he begins to sway towards the path of good.

DO NOT BECOME A MINDFLAYER. He will no longer kiss you.

I will update this list later with more approval choices, but these are the biggest and most important.

Tell us about your character - anything at all!

She is named after Jinx from Arcane, because I fucking love that show. She doesn't remember how she broke her horn, but Gortash does. They got a little carried away one time (ok, more than one time, but only broke her horn once). As of right now, she's going to be a full Bladelock, because I have not played Pact of the Blade Warlock yet and it seems like it fits. I reserve the right to change my mind, because I love magic and multiclassing (I have never had any character be solo classed all the way to level 12 in BG3 and all my D&D characters multiclass - it's a problem).

What do they enjoy doing together?

Besides murder? Straight up camp gossip. They also make bets with each other with ever increasing stakes. When will Shadowheart and Lae'zel finally hook up? If Astarion wins, he gets to drain Jynx dry and revivify her afterwards. If Jynx wins, the next dwarf they kill in battle Astarion has dismember and sneak a portion back to camp as a little Jynx snack without the others noticing (apparently cannibalism is bad?).

What's something your character's partner loves about them?

Astarion loves that Jynx is as obsessed with power as he is. She's been a slave to Bhaal her entire life and he has been Cazador's slave for almost 200 years. They are going to take power for themselves so that no one can ever control them again. They are very much making each other worse but shared trauma is a bitch. He also loves that her eyes look like the sun. So even in the Underdark or at night, he's never without the sun again.

Their life after Baldur's Gate?

We aren't there yet. Still in Act 1 because the damn kissing and romance mods are making this run one million hours long (plus work is insane). Their intent is to control the Absolute and take the Sword Coast and then all of Toril. They want to rule it all together as the world's worst power couple.

Something your Tav/Durge loves about their partner:

Jynx loves that Astarion is ride or die. She's never had anyone in her life that would kill for her or to protect her. That makes her want to do the same for him - not that she's ever had an issue with killing. She's going to make sure that Cazador dies screaming and no one ever hurts Astarion again. Also his eye contact (she's feral for it) and his little moans when he kisses her.

Something that your character and their partner both hate (about anything):

Cazador, Bhaal, and Wither's big naturals. Bastards on reddit (affectionate) made me get this mod and now I'm stuck with it the entire run. So here you go - you can also enjoy Wither's tits.

I use Appearence Edit Enhanced w/ Origins Enabled.

I play as either Astarion (in origin mode) or ‘resculpt’ my Tav into Astarion (if you do this, you won’t have Astarion’s body textures, you have to go into the Generated files and find Astarion’s body textures and then rename them to “ELF_body_A” or whatever is the names of the body texture files in the ELF_M_NKD folder. I also do this to have other companion’s body textures on my Tav, for example, Shadowheart’s hip mole. For some reason right now it isn’t working on elves, but works on half-elves, so I resculpt into a half-elf and I have Astarion’s head accessible through this mod. *

Alternatively, you could use ring of metamorph, but I like to add dark circles, some eyeliner and earrings to my Astarion.

You do pretty much the same thing for Lae’zel (or whoever in other cases), and resculpt into your Tav/oc.

The Bridge to Nowhere and Other Errata

This was a new one for me. The bridge to Baldur's Gate remained intact, theoretically leaving my party able to skirt the shadow curse, but of course Plot Logic says it cannot be traversed beyond a certain point.

My current playthrough (3 Tavs, 3 companions, 1 hireling) had ignored the mountain pass in favor of getting to the creche area (and shadow-cursed lands via invisible stealth), all to rescue Minthara early and bring her back to finish Act 1 areas with them (Underdark, Grymforge, Creche Y'llek).

At some point during that brief stretch in Act 2, Lae'zel griped about not going to the creche, we persuaded her it was a moot point, and she relented. Perhaps it helped that the Tav who did this was her romantic interest.

So when we finally clear everything underground (and thanks to the Double XP mod, saunter in at a commanding Level 8), Voss and his gith patrol are nowhere to be seen, even though the dragon shadow had appeared above us on the pass road. The local Fist were still all dead, though.

Now, maybe we didn't see the gith because our favorite frog was stuck back in camp, but I'm betting that they were written out as soon as we confirmed to the game that we weren't creche-bound. But of course we later were—there's some choice Minthy-approval to mine there (even a new one I discovered; see below)—and so we were able to test the Bridge to Nowhere.

It was worth it to discover that Minthara approves you persuading Lae'zel, on the first try, to ditch the creche's zaith'isk:

That wiki edit right there was done by yours truly. I never get to do stuff like this—by the time I discover something, it's usually well-known or totally over—so this was a great dopamine hit.

Cannor's totally gonna kiss her way way way before liquidating Moonrise Towers.

Update: Success! Hit 30 approval after the Waning Moon and kissing commenced after the House of Healing.

Shadowheart does NOT like a knife to her throat unless it's on her terms!

I've been using the tadpole/insight on my companions because Shart needs to know their secrets but REFUSES to tell anyone hers. It's been really interesting taking this route since I've never done it before. So far she knows something's really wrong with Gale and Wyll is involved in a lot of trouble. If you've been hesitant to play any of the origin characters, I recommend it. Patch 7 has more party banter and it helps with missing the voice acting.
