hi, just wanted to ask, when i click on the links to your edits and ramblings on mobile tumblr sends me to nothing; is that a problem with my tumblr or do you also experience that?
Hi anon! I’m sorry to hear that :( Every link seems to work fine for me… Are you referring to the link in my bio and pinned post?

honestly I'm kinda disappointed all the popular/well known ships are gone/eliminated
the semis look kinda boring now tbh
(ps: I don't mean to hate on the ships winning. I'm sure they're winning for a reason. it's just they're all kinda unknown/not mainstream)
We're definitely surprised to see some of the highly seeded ships go down early, but personally, I think that makes the remaining matches more exciting, not less! Who doesn't love an upset, after all? But of course, with Bubbline in one half and Destiel in the other, there are definitely some significant heavy hitters still in the running!
That being said, we know we have some underdog semifinalists that people are less familiar with, so here's a brief primer on each of them!
Hualian comes from the Chinese novel Tian Guan Ci Fu, or Heaven Official's Blessing. If you've heard of Wangxian of Mo Dao Zu Shi/The Untamed fame, TGCF comes from the same author. It is a xianxia love story about ghost kings and fallen gods. Here's the plot synopsis from IMDB:
Eight hundred years ago, Xie Lian was the Crown Prince of the Xian Le kingdom. He was loved by his citizens and was considered the darling of the world. He ascended to the Heavens at a young age; however, due to unfortunate circumstances, was quickly banished back to the mortal realm. Years later, he ascends again, only to be banished again a few minutes after his ascension. Now, eight hundred years later, Xie Lian ascends to the Heavens for the third time as the laughing stock among all three realms. On his first task as a god thrice ascended, he meets a mysterious demon who rules the ghosts and terrifies the Heavens, yet, unbeknownst to Xie Lian, this demon king has been paying attention to him for a very, very long time.
At #58 in the Tumblr 2023 top ship list, they're solidly middle of the pack in terms of seeding, but they did take down Buddie at #10, and Davekat of Homestuck infamy: a very impressive showing!
Sulemio hails from the latest installment in the Mobile Suit Gundam anime franchise, The Witch from Mercury; as with all Gundam series, it is a sci-fi military drama featuring giant robots and space warfare. This one happens to also feature heavy inspiration from Revolutionary Girl Utena. Official synopses seem a bit lacking, and I unfortunately don't know enough about the series to summarize it myself, but I'll link this very helpful guide that someone left in our notes!
They're the lowest seeded of our semifinalists, ranking #59 on Tumblr's 2023 top ship list, so the fact that they've taken out the top seed is truly a feat; having a rallying force with @demilypyro has certainly helped their cause (and our very busy activity feed 😅) a great deal!
Regardless of who wins the next rounds, there are very fun underdog journeys present on both sides of the bracket. Plus, it's always good to remember that polls like these are not meant to be indicators of popularity, but of passion.

you don't need an AO3 app - round 2!!!
"AO3 is ugly and I hate the formatting!" -> you can download site skins. very gorgeous ones. and you can use them to change the aesthetics and visuals of AO3. just search 'AO3 skin' on Tumblr or even on google and you will be in A Whole New World. (and those searches should yeild tutorials on how to install the skins as well - it's not something I know a lot about, because I used to primarily use Quizilla and FFN, so I am more than used to Ugly Website. AO3 is very aesthetic and pretty compared to those.)
"AO3 is too bright!!! it hurts my eyes!!!" -> there is a dark mode. scroll down to the bottom. there is a heading that says 'customize'. under this heading, hit the button that says 'reversi'. that is their version of dark mode. and again, you can look for site skins that you like that have a darker background.
"I want to be able to make reading lists!" -> you can make bookmark collections on AO3. In your bookmarks, there is a button that says 'add to collection' beside each work. have fun. go ham. (Also, you can make private bookmarks if you are reading something with more controversial content that you don't really want others to know about - and please know, that any bookmark comments you make on public bookmarks can be seen by the author.)
(this last one made me laugh - because it seems like people are just coming up with bullshit excuses to 'need' an AO3 app when there is literally nothing that an app can go that AO3 can't.)
"my memory is really bad because of reasons sooo I remember to use things better by having them on my homescreen like an app!!!" -> create an AO3 shortcut on your homescreen. most mobile browsers have the capability to put a shortcut to a specific link or a specific website on your homescreen so that you can go straight there - like you would with opening an app. and it can be labelled 'the AO3 app' while simply having the icon of that browser. you can even do this with a link to a specific fic that you are in the process of reading (even down to the specific chapter that you were on). there is literally 0 reasons to have or use an AO3 app.
and remember kids!!! any and all apps with AO3 in their title are not associated with the real archiveofourown in any way, shape, or form - they are unofficial, and technically, they are illegal. and using them is putting all fanficition writers at risk legally (even if there is no active lawsuits right now) - just don't fucking use them. it is a threat to the entire fanfiction hobby just because you want 'the app experience'.
the archive is a non-profit website with 0 ads for a reason, and those apps are scummy scammers who put ads on our stories to make fast easy money when none of the people who made those stories ever consented to it.

since twitter has become actively hostile to its users, so they came to tumblr, and reddit has become actively hostile to its users, so they came to tumblr, what do we do now that tumblr is becoming (more) actively hostile to its users? i’ve been here for over a decade so i know tumblr users are the type to cling on despite everything and revel in undoing every change, but i’m so tired of the way this website breaks the way it fundamentally works in order to appeal to new users. the twitterfication of the site seems so much worse than when people jumped ship after the porn ban, and even then, only small communities (and twitter) cropped up as solutions. you might not be the person to ask for a definitive answer, but i figured a tech blog might be interested in considering - what do we do when there’s nowhere left to go?
Okay so, I mean this very seriously: how has tumblr meaningfully become like twitter?
I don't personally find the sidebar view obnoxious and it seems to me like just another layout change that's pretty typical to tumblr. New users are getting signed up with a bit more emphasis on algorithmic feeds, but that is still very easy to change (MUCH easier than on any other social platform) and the algorithm has been there for everyone for quite a while, we just typically don't notice it because a lot of long-term tumblr users don't go into the "for you" feed.
I don't think that tumblr *has* fundamentally broken the way that it works to appeal to new users. My dash now is still very much like my dash in 2019, and still very much like my dash in 2018 (though much less pornographic). Reblogs are still reblogs, likes are still likes. Replies, for all that they seem like they've been around forever, are new and good and I think they work well. I'm irritated that the notes menu doesn't have a "view all" option but I think that's a worthwhile tradeoff for an easy way to see tags.
I *do not* understand why tumblr has broken linking back to previous reblogs but I don't think that's out of an effort to act like twitter; it is a bizarre choice that I dislike and don't understand but I also don't think that it has fundamentally changed the way the site works and i mean you've been around long enough that I'm sure you've had the same experience I have of going into the notes of a post and randomly clicking until you found a version that you wanted to reblog without a bunch of bullshit at the bottom. Tumblr has always kind of sucked, this change DOES suck but it doesn't suck in a way that is particularly novel or insurmountable. (For instance, I think this change sucks MUCH LESS than when they made posts with links invisible to the search, that is something that is genuinely bad that has been long lasting but doesn't get brought up much in lists of the ways that tumblr has gone wrong)
Tumblr *is* changing, but I think it is changing more incrementally and less terribly than other parts of the internet. I also hate the floating clown, the login walls, the dash-only view for blogs (you can't archive it and I HATE that), and - to an extent - the new lightbox on mobile. And I dislike that less than I thought I would but I don't think it's a fundamental change that necessarily impacts my interactions with the site - it *adds* a feature that I don't care for but it doesn't *break* anything that I require to have a good time on tumblr - in that way I think of it very much like Live. People hate Live so much and I find that perplexing because it is so easy to simply ignore it.
But that's not really your question; that's just some stuff I want people to think about because as much as tumblr has changed in the last two years it is nowhere near as fucked up as the recent things that twitter and reddit have pulled.
So, as to your question: where do we go?
Well. Not to be an extremely old person on the internet, but damned if I don't miss email lists. And forums. God I miss forums. Neither of those things has all the bonuses of platforms like twitter or reddit or tumblr or facebook, but they were great ways to hang out with people you liked on the internet.
The internet is changing. I can feel it, you can feel it, I'm pretty sure we're all like cattle in a field lifting our noses and hearing some distant rumbling and becoming slowly aware that it's almost time to run. There's a coming stampede and it isn't here yet but you know it's on its way. You're not imagining that, that's how things feel right now and there are a shitload of things contributing to it.
Things like SESTA/FOSTA and KOSA (which has not passed yet but is a big red flag waving on the horizon) have been eroding away the way that users on various platforms can function. Some platforms have consolidated in ways that harm users; some new platforms have popped up and shaken up the map of the internet; some platforms are being torn apart brick by brick by owners who don't care about the users. It kind of seems like people are actually looking up and realizing that advertising is A) bad and B) doesn't actually work and I think we're running straight toward another advertising-based crash like we saw in 2017. It feels like all the desperate things that tumblr is doing is just rearranging deck chairs on the titanic as the internet as a whole starts to sink into the ocean.
Honestly, I don't think it's that bad. I think it *feels* bad, but I think we're looking at a slow whimpering death of the platforms, not a bang. I think tumblr is going to hang on at least for a few years and I think it's going to end up like livejournal and myspace, which both still exist as websites that are recognizable as updated versions of the sites they were in 2004-2010. The thing that I think would really, honestly hurt tumblr in a fundamental way is if it moved to a more algorithmic and data-sales based model of advertising, and I think that's still pretty distant. I think Automattic is aware that killing the chronological feed would be the one unforgivable sin that would cause a mass exodus and a final crash, and I think when we see that, when we can't just scroll through the feed and see what our friends did that day in order of when they did it, that's when the party is over here.
But that's still not answering your question.
So, where do we go? What do we do? Well, for now, I'd say it's a good time to get contact info for your friends across various platforms. Get email addresses, get phone numbers.
Now is also the time for you to set up a personal website. NeoCities is currently the best place to do this, though it takes a lot more effort than just starting a blog on tumblr. I think that various oldschool blogging sites like Wordpress and Blogger/Blogspot/whatever the hell the google one is are a better place to have your emergency backup than a more platform-y platform if you aren't up to doing something with NeoCities.
If you've got the ability to do so and a group of people who are interested in the same core subject, set up a forum. There's a decent amount of off-the-shelf forum software out there and a text-and-small-images forum isn't prohibitively expensive, but it's never going to be huge and you're never going to have the kind of spread and virality and random connections that you would on a platform with millions or billions of users.
If you can't set up a forum, setting up or joining a discord server for your friends is a decent enough option at the moment, and may be a very good option for people who are looking to keep their interactions more private.
But yeah i think right now is a great time for people to start setting up their own personal websites, to start visiting actual webpages again, to start bookmarking their friends' websites, and to start collecting contact info that isn't tied to platforms.

Maybe like Jax with a Betty Boop-like reader? Like the Reader just resembles Betty Boop and what not and is kinda similar to her
Jax x Betty Boop type! Reader!
Relying on my friends brief breakdown on Betty's character since I haven't watched anything betty boop stuff <\3
So if theres any inaccuracies blame my friend/j
Uhuh I dont think imma write much tonight, I think I got sick/am starting to get sick <\3
Written on mobile
Tumblr media
From what I gathered from my friend, betty boop is a sweet and caring character but is not a pushover
I think that past bit is going to be a real big factor in your dynamic with jax
Honestly jax seems like the type to take advantage of someones kindness and naivety in order to further push his goals and pranks
But again, you're not totally clueless, and given that you're stuck here with him you kind of. Get to know his deal a lot
Honestly I can kind of see the dynamic being similar to how I hc ragatha and jaxs friendship to be like; you keep him in line and he, for the most part. Behaves around you
Sure hes going to be tempted to pull some shit with you, but
You know, it's a lot less frequent than the others
If you physically resemble betty boop, I have a post somewhere from a few days ago where its jax w/ a really pretty reader ! I didnt get a link for it and tumblr doesnt let me save ask drafts on mobile, so <\3
Should have a Jessica rabbit gif, refer to that post to how jax feels about your looks
TDLR for the post he is down BAD like BAD BAD I'm talking like
Making comical heart eyes and stamping his foot when you stroke his chin bad
Hobbies! I also have a jax x singer reader from the other day! So have fun with that + refer to that for this !
He would make dumb joke song suggestions, I think
Dancing... hmm...
I think I said before somewhere that I hc jax cant dance at all, so don't expect him to ask to dance with you. He hates embarrassing himself

Am I the only one who doesn’t get why Corlys is acting foolishly in Hotd? He’s supposed to be a really intelligent political figure in this story (F&B) but the decisions he makes (Hotd) are the opposite of intelligently sound. Ngl I hate how he bends over backwards to go to war for Rhaenyra when he was complaining about her just before.
This is actually one of my criticisms of how Corlys has been portrayed in the show. I’m on mobile right now (and Tumblr search function sucks on the app) so I can’t link them, but I actually have a couple of old posts about this. The show has changed several key aspects of Corlys’ characterization so now a lot of his actions make him appear politically inconsistent, especially with actions he’s supposed to take later on in the story.
Like you said, it makes no sense for show!Corlys to be supporting Rhaenyra. He DIRECTLY blames her for his son’s death and yet despite his complaints, he prepared his fleet and even helps make war plans for her. This is all without Rhaenyra offering him anything in return, like making him Hand. Meanwhile, when book!Corlys INDIRECTLY blamed Rhaenyra for his wife’s death, several concessions have to be made to appease him and get him back on her side. Nor does Corlys tolerate any harm done to his family: he wants vengeance for Laenor’s death, he commits treason against Rhaenyra to protect Addam, he commits treason against Aegon II to protect Baela.
In terms of show!Corlys’ political intelligence, he doesn’t really display much. Moments he has in the book were removed in season 1 (and based on the leaks I’ve read for season 2, other aspects of Corlys’ story that show him as a political power won’t be in the show). In the bts material for the show, it’s actually said that Corlys doesn’t really understand politics much but he fares better on the battlefield. And that is where the problem lies.
You can also see a similar sort of change with other Velaryon characters. Laenor’s entire characterization was changed. Show version of Laenor is depicted as someone who goes as far as to abandon his family and dragon because he craves the violence of the battlefield more. Some of the things he says on the show are very reminiscent of a display of toxic masculinity + him having internalized homophobia which his book counterpart was not even implied to have. Show version of Addam and Alyn are unnecessarily aged up and might already be battle hardened soldiers from the Stepstones, instead of being innocent young boys who know nothing of war (and that’s actually quite relevant to their story arcs).
HOTD showrunners have made many changes to characterizations. But in the case of certain characters, those changes seem to be based on racist stereotypes. Similarly to how show!Laena got reduced to a fast black girl/unwanted wife who’s violent death is meant to serve the story of Rhaenyra (a white character) there are actually several aspects of Corlys and Laenor’s stories that were changed to uplift the white characters around them. The essence of their characterization in the show is altered. As I’ve mentioned before in another post, the black male characters in House of the Dragon are depicted as more hypermasculine, violent figures than their white book counterparts in Fire & Blood.
So yes, Corlys is meant to be an intelligent character but the show reduces that aspect greatly to depict him as more violent than his book counterpart. Show version of Corlys participates in the Stepstones through engaging in physical battles. Book version of Corlys does so through tactical command of his ships. Show version of Corlys returns back to the Stepstones to participate in more battles. Book version of Corlys does not (it’s actually Daemon that sticks around in the Stepstones). Based on leaks for season 2, if those leaks turn out to be true, then show version of the character will continue to be portrayed as more a soldier used to commit acts of violence than a politician who can act very intelligently to outmaneuver his opposition.

do you happen to know the title / have the link to that jamie auditory processing fic?
Sure do! It's called 'Cityzens' by MayAChance and it fucking rocks!
@faithinchances does an amazing job at weaving together an absolute tour de force of hilarious cat acquisition (BEST CATS. AMAZING 10/10 CAT PORTRAYAL) and fucking heartbreaking character introspection. The story picks up directly after Jamie is sent back to City in season one, and it is THE story to me for exploring Jamie with his old teammates in a football environment that he actually understands. As such, this fic runs Richmond-critical, and god does it work, poking critically at comedic moments until the suspension of disbelief pops like a balloon.
Then there's the aforementioned undiagnosed auditory processing disorder, the portrayal of which makes me fucking feral. The sheer amount of effort it takes Jamie just to be able to hold a conversation - to say nothing of the times he flat out gives up on understanding what's going on. Combined with what is clearly some undiagnosed autism, touch-starvation, and the fact that so many of his coaches seem to fucking hate him for reasons he can't seem to ever puzzle out, and this Jamie is struggling all over the place just to keep it together.
And then there's his fucking dad. Because Jamie's back in Manchester, and this is all taking place between his return in season one and the breaking point of him quitting football in season two, and oh, OOOH, when I say I was on the edge of my seat when I found out the story was drawing to a close.
My emotions are literally spilled all over the floor with this fic. Can never recommend enough
Link here for fic *
*Note: For those that don't know, with locked fics you need to be logged into AO3 for the link to open, which doesn't always work if you're on mobile in the tumblr app. if issue persists, open link in desktop browser once you're already logged in to AO3)
WAIT I FORGOT TO MENTION. PEP IS IN THIS ONE. A VERSION OF PEP. HE'S GREAT!

Hey, everybody...
Here is the thing: you guys know me. I'm a writer, and plagiarism makes me really mad, bc I put myself in the writer's shoes and... I would hate if that happened with me. So here is what happened: someone copied a fic I really loved reading, from the The Last of Us fandom, changed the name of the character from Joel Miller to Eddie Munson and posted it. When the original writer approached her and asked her to please take it down, she laughed and made fun of the original writer. Some people went into the writer's defense, she started deleting comments, there was a fight, nasty words were said. I did try to have my fun being a softspoken asshole, but... Not only it didn't work, but the girl had the gall to say 'I stole bc I wanted', 'I do what I want'. Basically, she let the conversation get heated so she could feel justified in her stealing behaviour.
HERE IS WHAT I'LL DO (and I really invite you to join me):
I'm gonna notifbomb this person, bc from the conversation yesterday it seems they use tumblr mobile, and the person gets really annoyed when they get a ton of notifications. Don't need to say anything, I won't, I will just post a gif of Joel and tag this fucker in the comments madly until they take the fic down or block me, whatever happens first. But honestly, I'm feeling petty (and god, I love being petty, I'm so glad this asshole gave me the opportunity to be righteously petty), and you can be SURE I will create other accounts and keep the fun.
You see I didn't tag anyone. I want this person to get really annoyed and this is a surprise, I also don't wanna bother the original poster, but everything is documented on the tags: #joel miller x reader, #eddie munson x reader, #Eddie Munson x reader smut, #eddie munson, #stranger things, #stranger things x reader, #Eddie Munson smut, #joel miller smut and #joel miller x reader smut.
Ask me in DMS for all the links you need. The funpost will be tagged here as son as I make it. I really hope some of you join me on this and we can have fun annoying someone! <3
UPDATE: She deleted the post. I am taking the links down. Thank you for participating <3

hey all, i hate having to make a post like this, but my partner and i are a little tight on money. we both work full time, but bills are crazy and seem to never stop. things have been tight for a little bit, but they're getting worse little by little.
because of this, i'm making myself available for quick turnaround commissions! i'll be quickest when it comes to icons (200 or so will take me maybe 2 or so hours at most, but that time doesn't include making / looking for screencaps and content to use). more than 200 icons will likely take me just a little longer than that, but i'm also available for graphics (promos, mobile banner, post dividers, answered/ooc/etc. banners), as well as theme bg's and coding; again, these will take longer based on what you're looking for/wanting. all prices are in USD, and i normally use pa.ypal but i also have casha.pp and ko.fi. quick turnaround for me will begin as soon as i message/respond to you once you make your request (be it over IM or in an ask, etc.). this applies to all of the items i make.
for icons, prices will start at $6 for 100, $8 for 150, $12 for 200, $18 for 300, $24 for 400, $35 for 500, $45 for 750, and $60 for 1000. if you're wanting more than 1000, we can discuss further pricing! if a custom psd is wanted, that is an additional $3 flat, and if a personalized template is wanted then we'll further discuss pricing on that as well. for graphics, prices will start at $8 in general, but may be lower or higher based on your request. for theme images/codes, prices will start at $15 for just an image, but will start at $28 for the theme image AND a code. there will be additional pricing for the types of links wanted (individual popup links, tabbed popups, etc.).
even if you are not able to commission me at this time, please reblog this post to help spread the word! or if you're not in the market for any commissions, please consider donating to my ko.fi if you're able to! i don't ask for much on tumblr, so it feels really weird for me to do this and i don't like asking for things like this in general, but we really do need some help. i love you all. thank you!

striker is such a pretty boy! i will be trying out his route for sure in future updates. i love him sm! do u know the face claims for the other reapers bay ros or their appearance description because i cant find it anywhere. i think the link for the ros descriptions doesn't work for me because tumblr just seems to hate me lol (literally nothing works for me on this app, tumblr really needs to fix their stuff, specially their phone app fhgfkjgdf) and as a poc i just want to make sure im respectful of the characters skin tones when imaging them in my head. i know youve done same art for the other ros before so i thought i would ask you, plus your art is gorgeous and your Pinterest boards are some of my favourites. i love dakotas writing so much, its so good. i love that all their games have such large casts because i love large casts a lot and their dynamics. im living for all the striker art you've been posting, its absolute chefs kiss. i hope you have a lovely day and that you are doing well <33
He issss I love him so much <3
Dakota has shared other Reaper's Bay face claims you can see here and here ! Tumblr sucks fr especially on mobile lol bc I tried a few weeks ago to find those posts on mobile but also couldn't,, had to be on desktop smh
I feel you tho! I always wanna make sure I get skin and hair of characters right so I always wait til authors share them or if I can't wait I'll ask them myself lol and I agree @dakotawritesif is an amazing writer !!
And thank you so much that means a lot uwu <33 hope u have a good day as well ~

Oh I got a few! Me and my irl friend used to play a game to go hunt for terrible DNIs, and then block the users if proship was in there. Was both fun and was a way to block antis on my Tumblr account lmaooo.
Anyway, here's my contributions ( didn't check if others added any of these already sooooo )
DNIs that are hella hard to find to the point it almost feels like they're hiding it on purpose. ( below is just an example highlighted in green ) Sometimes it'd be so bad you'd have to go onto their blog ( cuz nothing in the original post, ) find their carrd linked in their pinned ( sometimes even under a cut, ) find out you can't access the carrd on your computer, have to go onto mobile Tumblr, find their carrd, go into an "about/DNI" section of the carrd, to then see their DNI. It's not common common, but not super rare either to find stuff like that.
Overly violent/hateful DNIs.
Here's a few extra bonus ones that aren't common, but weird DNI things I've seen.
DNIs with random people in them that seems to be ex-mutuals/ex-friends. Including people associating with those people.
Two DNIs with different things. Specifically a DNI on their pinned post saying "DNI proship" and the second being in a linked carrd that had stuff like "DNI racists" in it alongside EVERYTHING else.
I know that all DNIs are inherently flawed and pointless anyway, but what are some common criteria or addendums that make you doubly disregard them? (Besides the obvious...) I'll go first!
Fandom bullshit listed over things like "racist" or "homophobic"
You can just tell they're putting something on there because everyone else has it on theirs, but they have no idea what they're talking about
Acting entitled to know every follower's exact age, gender, sexuality, race, religion, and country of origin or risk being blocked
Calling fans of a particular media freaks/bigots/losers, followed by "current moots excluded!"
Overabundance of censoring that does nothing but make sure their talk of sensitive topics gets past every filter
"Basic DNI criteria"
"Etc"

hello
i want to post articles i discovered on my reccomendation tab related to meetme (the tumblr live company) but i dont want to risk my main being terminated if this post gets far away so i am posting it here, i will summarize the articles as well
tw for sexual abuse of minors
article one: https://www.sfcityattorney.org/2014/02/03/meetme-com-enables-sexual-predators-and-child-stalkers-herreras-lawsuit-contends/
article two: https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2019/12/12/social-networking-app-meetme-says-it-screens-sexual-offenders-gave-one-vip-status/
someone not on mobile browser feel free to add them as clickable links for me
article summary:
Tumblr media
[text copy:
link 1 summary (from 2014): -predatores have useed meetme to get into contact with children, some as young as 13, and coerce them into meeting -it has been a key factor in crimes against children -meetme's practices are illegal even in parts of the us as of this article being published
end text copy]
as of 2014, it was illegal at least in california, but that could have changed due to passage of time and such
Tumblr media
[text copy:
article 2 summary (published on 2019): -here, meetme is described as "an app that combines dating with live streaming" -apparently, being convincted of crimes against minors is supposed to disallow you from being on the app (by comparing the name you sign up with with registrys and databases). however, in yhe case of this streamer, they didnt do it sufficiently, as while he used a fake name on the sight and his connected facebook, his email had his real name which was on a registry -this same person got paid by the site, it seems? and they would have had to file a tax form for what they gave him -- WITH HIS REAL NAME ON IT -someone has been MURDERED BY SOMEONE THEY MEET ON MEETME? im only halfway thrkugh but i think we are awarebof enough ftom this article to understand how bad this collab is

Setting up a Tumblr mobile redirect on Android
I don't know if this will help anyone else, but it helped me.
Tumblr media
This is not the Tumblr app. This is a link to the mobile site that is now sitting on my phone home screen, right where my muscle memory expects it to be.
I deeply hate that Tumblr live nav bar icon, as I'm constantly tapping it by accident trying to swipe up to close the app, and I never ever ever want to see Tumblr live. And desktop doesn't work for me --these days if I can't do it on my phone, I won't do it/see it/use it.
So, this is my solution. The mobile site seems to work for my purposes, and the hideous video camera icon is at least relegated to a hidden menu.
If you want your own fake app shortcut, it's easy:
Step 1: Navigate to the page you want to be your default page (in Chrome, not sure about other browsers). If you're like me, this is probably https://www.tumblr.com/dashboard/following
If you tap the three dots at the top right of the page now, you'll see that Chrome is prompting you to use the app:
Tumblr media
You don't want that, so...
Step 2: turn on airplane mode on your phone.
Step 3: refresh until you get the no connection screen:
Tumblr media
Step 4: Click the three dots at the top now, and you should see this instead:
Tumblr media
Click Add to Home screen, and then drag the new shortcut where you want it!
Bonus: if you don't want to uninstall the Tumblr app entirely, you may want to go to Settings - Apps, pick Tumblr , and turn off "Open by Default". Otherwise the app will keep opening links to Tumblr pages.
Hope this helps!

I gotta get this off of my chest while the information is still relevant in my life, it’s totally inconsequential to anyone else, but it has had a weird bearing on my fandom experience in 1D.
Okay, I literally looked through my facebook messages to find out the exact date, so on April 10, 2012 a girl I was probably in love with in high school told me that I just had to listen to this boyband from X Factor, so we could bond over the interest. I was so entirely skeptical and way too cool and #feminist to care about a stupid boyband, so even though she sent me homework in the form of a youtube playlist of video diaries and another link to youtube documentary that were sure to hook me, I didn’t watch them.
Then at the beginning of 2013 I heard a song on the overhead speakers at school which was DJ’d by students, Shazamed the track on my first ever phone, and got back One Thing by One Direction. Say isn’t that the group Isabela sent me those videos of?
On January 29, 2013 I added the first One Direction song to my hefty and disorganized Spotify playlist, Kiss You. On February 26 I added it again, along with all my favorites of the Take Me Home album. By all accounts, objectively, this is definitely early on enough to feel like a fandom elder, but I didn’t feel like that.
Feeling self conscious that I had waited so long to delve into something I had liked so readily, I sheepishly sat down and clicked the video diaries playlist she had sent me and watched them all. Louis was my favorite (this is not what I told the fandom girlies I met, at the time it seemed to me that he was unpopular with straight girls looking back). I watched the documentary (One Direction: A Year in the Making from ITV2) she sent me as well, and cried when Harry cried about messing up his solo and hate comments. I watched it from my phone on my grandmother’s couch at a family function with headphones, and I felt so stupid for not caring about some deeply emotionally in touch and complex boys.
Somewhere around this time I passed Isabela in the hall and said, “Hey! I watched the video diaries, oh my god!”
She said, “Barely??”
We were between classes, she laughed off what I’d said, and that was the last we spoke on the subject. It’s entirely possible that it’s the last we spoke period, as I transferred schools soon after. I wanted it to spark conversation with us, bond us like she’d hoped to do the year previous, but it was too little too late, and she’d moved on from liking them.
I felt so late to the party! I soon found fandom on twitter for the most part, and found solace and community there, and soon after, here on tumblr as well, which I was previously using for other interests.
But nonetheless, I counted myself as a latecomer, not a real fan, not knowing enough, just based off of this passing interaction.
So much so that when I met my now longtime long-distance friend over facebook messenger, I deferred to her for any opinion I thought I should have on them, I lied about my favorite boy (though, funnily enough, I find she may have lied about her favorite too) and felt like I don’t have enough authority on the subject to have a valid opinion.
I still! Think! This! Way! It’s been a decade since I added those songs on Spotify, and I bet if I went through my old hard drive, I’d find that it’s been even longer since I ripped each of their songs painstakingly from youtube and added the album art manually on iTunes--something I did with all my music before I found Spotify.
I’ve essentially had imposter syndrome about being a “real” One Direction fan for ages, for absolutely no reason. Isabela probably thought nothing of the passing conversation we had in the hall, but I internalized it so badly, that I sat here voting on a Tumblr poll system that didn’t exist when I was first blogging about them on this website--Tumblr didn’t even have an APP then, I’d made it a shortcut to the mobile website on my phone!-- and think, well, I’m not a real fan, so that’s why I don’t know what the majority would vote in this poll.
Babe, huh?!?
I’ve never put words to this, and I’m a writer, so just now I thought journaling it out somewhere I could revisit the thought process someday would be productive and maybe undo some of the imposter syndrome I infected myself with in a school hallway all those years ago.
I’m a real fan! A first or second wave fan in the very least. My tenure as a 1D stan predates Midnight Memories first single release date by almost a full year and follows the release of Take Me Home by only two months! I was singing Diana at school dance in December of 2013 with all the fervor of a baby who had no idea what was to come, and I’m still here.
This is just for me, my personal records if you will.
In a box marked: FOR MY BIOGRAPHER etc.

Some specific responses the OP Pitch (I know staff probably doesn’t read reblogs but I’d like to list things out for myself):
1) “Experiment with logged out tumblr.com to achieve the highest conversion rate for sign-ups and log-ins, explore ways for visitors to “get” Tumblr and entice them to sign up”
Yeah, people hate this. I’m frequently not logged in, but I want to share a quick link  with friends through messaging apps (mostly Discord). Your changes to force logins are making this HARDER, and it’s not convincing me to sign up (again?) or my friends to sign up, it just makes them less likely to engage with content on Tumblr in any capacity.
2) “Improve our algorithmic ranking capabilities across all feeds.”
Sure, manipulate the tags or the “explore” window, none of us are using it. But does all feeds” include the chronological dashboard? Because large numbers of current tumblr users keep telling you that we don’t want algorithmic adjustments to that. We want chronological. Leave it alone!
3) Principle 3: Facilitate easier user participation in conversations.
okay I’m not sure I understand the specific features proposed in this one. Well, some of it isn’t very specific (” Address the confusion within replies and reblogs”??? I don’t think you’re gonna fix people’s reading comprehension, Staff). Some of it we already have (”collapsing reblog threads”). And Some of it i might even be in favor of (”removing duplicate reblogs within a user’s Following feed.“) if i’m understanding it right. But the vague ones Have Me Concerned
4) Principle 4: Retain and grow our creator base.
Okay, this is more out of my wheelhouse, I only barely count as a “creator” on here I think. I will say that I see people complaining about uploading problems (image resizing, overcompression, files getting lost) a fair amount, and I think fixing that will have a bigger effect than whatever skinner box rewards you might come up with. I do like “ Build mechanisms to protect creators from being spammed by notifications when they go viral. “ -- thing like bunching similar notifications together (e.g. when 30 people like the same post); and ability to mute notifications on posts.
5) Push notifications and emails
To be honest I don’t use the phone app and have all your emails going to a spam folder anyways, so I won’t notice any changes Tumblr makes here.
6) Principle 6: Performance, stability and quality.
Again, seems mostly like stuff for the app, I have no insight/opinions there. I will say the browser experience on my laptop has been pretty reliable, maybe even getting faster (or possibly other websites are just getting worse faster). Either way, I’m pretty happy with the recent performance of the nonmobile browser experience. The mobile browser experience is basically unusable b/c it pushes you to login and download the app, but that was covered under point 1.
Conclusion: Not all of these changes are bad. But please keep in mind the parts of the UX that are already working well  for your paying customers, and don’t sacrifice them to convert non-users who are very unlikely to become paying users.
Tumblr’s Core Product Strategy
Here at Tumblr, we’ve been working hard on reorganizing how we work in a bid to gain more users. A larger user base means a more sustainable company, and means we get to stick around and do this thing with you all a bit longer. What follows is the strategy we're using to accomplish the goal of user growth. The @labs group has published a bit already, but this is bigger. We’re publishing it publicly for the first time, in an effort to work more transparently with all of you in the Tumblr community. This strategy provides guidance amid limited resources, allowing our teams to focus on specific key areas to ensure Tumblr’s future.
The Diagnosis
In order for Tumblr to grow, we need to fix the core experience that makes Tumblr a useful place for users. The underlying problem is that Tumblr is not easy to use. Historically, we have expected users to curate their feeds and lean into curating their experience. But this expectation introduces friction to the user experience and only serves a small portion of our audience.
Tumblr’s competitive advantage lies in its unique content and vibrant communities. As the forerunner of internet culture, Tumblr encompasses a wide range of interests, such as entertainment, art, gaming, fandom, fashion, and music. People come to Tumblr to immerse themselves in this culture, making it essential for us to ensure a seamless connection between people and content.
To guarantee Tumblr’s continued success, we’ve got to prioritize fostering that seamless connection between people and content. This involves attracting and retaining new users and creators, nurturing their growth, and encouraging frequent engagement with the platform.
Our Guiding Principles
To enhance Tumblr’s usability, we must address these core guiding principles.
Expand the ways new users can discover and sign up for Tumblr.
Provide high-quality content with every app launch.
Facilitate easier user participation in conversations.
Retain and grow our creator base.
Create patterns that encourage users to keep returning to Tumblr.
Improve the platform’s performance, stability, and quality.
Below is a deep dive into each of these principles.
Principle 1: Expand the ways new users can discover and sign up for Tumblr.
Tumblr has a “top of the funnel” issue in converting non-users into engaged logged-in users. We also have not invested in industry standard SEO practices to ensure a robust top of the funnel. The referral traffic that we do get from external sources is dispersed across different pages with inconsistent user experiences, which results in a missed opportunity to convert these users into regular Tumblr users. For example, users from search engines often land on pages within the blog network and blog view—where there isn’t much of a reason to sign up.
We need to experiment with logged-out tumblr.com to ensure we are capturing the highest potential conversion rate for visitors into sign-ups and log-ins. We might want to explore showing the potential future user the full breadth of content that Tumblr has to offer on our logged-out pages. We want people to be able to easily understand the potential behind Tumblr without having to navigate multiple tabs and pages to figure it out. Our current logged-out explore page does very little to help users understand “what is Tumblr.” which is a missed opportunity to get people excited about joining the site.
Actions & Next Steps
Improving Tumblr’s search engine optimization (SEO) practices to be in line with industry standards.
Experiment with logged out tumblr.com to achieve the highest conversion rate for sign-ups and log-ins, explore ways for visitors to “get” Tumblr and entice them to sign up.
Principle 2: Provide high-quality content with every app launch.
We need to ensure the highest quality user experience by presenting fresh and relevant content tailored to the user’s diverse interests during each session. If the user has a bad content experience, the fault lies with the product.
The default position should always be that the user does not know how to navigate the application. Additionally, we need to ensure that when people search for content related to their interests, it is easily accessible without any confusing limitations or unexpected roadblocks in their journey.
Being a 15-year-old brand is tough because the brand carries the baggage of a person’s preconceived impressions of Tumblr. On average, a user only sees 25 posts per session, so the first 25 posts have to convey the value of Tumblr: it is a vibrant community with lots of untapped potential. We never want to leave the user believing that Tumblr is a place that is stale and not relevant.
Actions & Next Steps
Deliver great content each time the app is opened.
Make it easier for users to understand where the vibrant communities on Tumblr are.
Improve our algorithmic ranking capabilities across all feeds.
Principle 3: Facilitate easier user participation in conversations.
Part of Tumblr’s charm lies in its capacity to showcase the evolution of conversations and the clever remarks found within reblog chains and replies. Engaging in these discussions should be enjoyable and effortless.
Unfortunately, the current way that conversations work on Tumblr across replies and reblogs is confusing for new users. The limitations around engaging with individual reblogs, replies only applying to the original post, and the inability to easily follow threaded conversations make it difficult for users to join the conversation.
Actions & Next Steps
Address the confusion within replies and reblogs.
Improve the conversational posting features around replies and reblogs.
Allow engagements on individual replies and reblogs.
Make it easier for users to follow the various conversation paths within a reblog thread.
Remove clutter in the conversation by collapsing reblog threads.
Explore the feasibility of removing duplicate reblogs within a user’s Following feed.
Principle 4: Retain and grow our creator base.
Creators are essential to the Tumblr community. However, we haven’t always had a consistent and coordinated effort around retaining, nurturing, and growing our creator base.
Being a new creator on Tumblr can be intimidating, with a high likelihood of leaving or disappointment upon sharing creations without receiving engagement or feedback. We need to ensure that we have the expected creator tools and foster the rewarding feedback loops that keep creators around and enable them to thrive.
The lack of feedback stems from the outdated decision to only show content from followed blogs on the main dashboard feed (“Following”), perpetuating a cycle where popular blogs continue to gain more visibility at the expense of helping new creators. To address this, we need to prioritize supporting and nurturing the growth of new creators on the platform.
It is also imperative that creators, like everyone on Tumblr, feel safe and in control of their experience. Whether it be an ask from the community or engagement on a post, being successful on Tumblr should never feel like a punishing experience.
Actions & Next Steps
Get creators’ new content in front of people who are interested in it.
Improve the feedback loop for creators, incentivizing them to continue posting.
Build mechanisms to protect creators from being spammed by notifications when they go viral.
Expand ways to co-create content, such as by adding the capability to embed Tumblr links in posts.
Principle 5: Create patterns that encourage users to keep returning to Tumblr.
Push notifications and emails are essential tools to increase user engagement, improve user retention, and facilitate content discovery. Our strategy of reaching out to you, the user, should be well-coordinated across product, commercial, and marketing teams.
Our messaging strategy needs to be personalized and adapt to a user’s shifting interests. Our messages should keep users in the know on the latest activity in their community, as well as keeping Tumblr top of mind as the place to go for witty takes and remixes of the latest shows and real-life events.
Most importantly, our messages should be thoughtful and should never come across as spammy.
Actions & Next Steps
Conduct an audit of our messaging strategy.
Address the issue of notifications getting too noisy; throttle, collapse or mute notifications where necessary.
Identify opportunities for personalization within our email messages.
Test what the right daily push notification limit is.
Send emails when a user has push notifications switched off.
Principle 6: Performance, stability and quality.
The stability and performance of our mobile apps have declined. There is a large backlog of production issues, with more bugs created than resolved over the last 300 days. If this continues, roughly one new unresolved production issue will be created every two days. Apps and backend systems that work well and don't crash are the foundation of a great Tumblr experience. Improving performance, stability, and quality will help us achieve sustainable operations for Tumblr.
Improve performance and stability: deliver crash-free, responsive, and fast-loading apps on Android, iOS, and web.
Improve quality: deliver the highest quality Tumblr experience to our users.
Move faster: provide APIs and services to unblock core product initiatives and launch new features coming out of Labs.
Conclusion
Our mission has always been to empower the world’s creators. We are wholly committed to ensuring Tumblr evolves in a way that supports our current users while improving areas that attract new creators, artists, and users. You deserve a digital home that works for you. You deserve the best tools and features to connect with your communities on a platform that prioritizes the easy discoverability of high-quality content. This is an invigorating time for Tumblr, and we couldn’t be more excited about our current strategy.
