learning to draw sonic characters for. reasons

they're so hard for me to draw their proportions are so different from how i draw anthros so i have to fight my own muscle memory ;-; this is my first somewhat successful attempt out of... a few (read: too many)

Oikawa Tooru and Hajime Iwaizumi

There they are! The legends! The dogs!!!

Like I said already (in my previous post about Kageyama and Hinata), it was mentioned in the anime a few times that the Seijo’s structure of the group and the rivalry relationship between Iwa and Kyoutani resembles that of the wolf pack. It might have been a pull from the dub or sub translators, but I’ll take it as it is. Either way, their team don’t have an animal mascot at all, and making them plants was not in my to do list, so canines it was.

Not like any other team took that animal as their mascot, anyway)

And, additionally, Kyoutani’s nickname Mad Dog is pulling the idea in the same direction as well, so there you have it: if Nekoma are cats, Karasuno are crows and Inarizaki are foxes, than Aoba Johsai definitely can be dogs/wolves!

For the breeds I chose, not much thoughts were put into it, I’ll be honest. Mostly was going after the vibes, once again. For Iwa I wanted something strong, but not explicitly a wolf. So husky was my way to go. For Oikawa, it’s totally my bias! I don’t remember the name of the breed, but you can see how it looks in the references below the cut. I just like the spots, okay!?

I really like my Mobian Oikawa design, and that’s why i drew him more than anyone else, as of now lol (and Iwa just always around, as a treat)))

um hi izu. how are you? Um i wanted to ask for some tips about drawing sonic style. because i am struggling. ALOT

hello! so i'll be real there's a lot of "winging it" to me drawing sonic characters but it all starts with shapes. circles, cylinders, squares, triangles they're all your friends when making sonic characters.

try mapping out your drawing with stick figures and shapes first before going all the way into it. i was inspired by @calista-222 to make a gif showing kind of how i sketch out sonic characters!

basically i do smth similar to what they've said in a previous ask which is: draw a circle > use the circle loosely or ignore it altogether > start adding shapes till a get the pose i want asklfjhafjha

one thing i also do is start with either the muzzle or the eye shape. because they almost always connect no matter what kind of animal you're making (even if the lines don't show it). it also helps you map out the rest of the face!

i can also refer you to @tatck !! they have amazing tutorials and also reblog other really nice ones as well! i find them to be really insightful so i would def rec checking them out!
