And here it is, folks: my obligatory (for a couple years now!) mermaid submission for the month of May. This beauty was adopted from my pal Starrtoon on devianArt. Anyway; Caledonia, or Cali, is a Mobian mermaid who resides in a village at the bottom of a beautiful lake her people have faithfully protected from a currently hibernating lake monster for generations. There is also a village of surface-dwelling Mobians at the lake's shore, but don't worry: they get along fine with the lake-guarding mer-Mobians, as long as no one throws garbage or other pollutants into the lake. If a foreign contaminant should enter the lake, the monster, which feeds off pollution, will awaken.

This Au...has been stuck on my for you page.... For 3 WEEKS! I don't even look this stuff up! It started when someone I followed made a sea creature version of Silver which was awesome...then Shadow... THEN MORE KEPT POPPING UP! And I just finished reading the Rewound comic which you should definitely check out when you have time. So I thought "screw it, lemme have a swing at it."

Personality: Mighty at least in Rewound, is kinda feral. but I have a theory that deep down, when the fighting and danger is aside and you actually meet him. he's the known Strong lovable goober everyone knows and loves. However. I also took into account that given circumstances and the fact the ocean can be harsh. Mighty has some needless to say, Killer instincts and sometimes can get carried away with the hunt if it means providing for Ray and his friends. when it comes to the average Human or Mobian. Mighty can be highly hostile to them, given how most of the humans/Mobian's either hunt him, leave nets in the ocean to get tangled or capture him for experiments. so needless to say you need to have a lot of guts to try and give this guy therapy. He Travels the ocean with Ray, and they help each other hunt. Mighty has grown affection toward Ray from hunting pack, to his little brother. though unlike Ray's High sociability, Mighty is a little more shy, and thrown off guard if any other sea monsters /mermaids hear of him. Due to Ray falling into fishing or research boats often, mighty has to cause a few shipwrecks to keep Ray and any other creatures from being found out.

Design: Mighty was inspired by a Variety of prehistoric armoured marine life. mainly the dunkleosteus so mighty can keep his shell. a cat fish, And (at least I tried to add) Caribbean Reef shark. Mainly because I looked up what shark species is fast but nice, and Caribbean shark was top of the list. and while this might not be seen in the picture, with mighty and Ray, to help with traveling, they're colors or in mighty'rs case skin tone are more vibrant the closer they are to the surface and the sun. including they're eyes. and about his Ear: He has a tag on his ear, but after a fight with a shark some of her ear along with the tag got munched off. though, his ears and antenna looking things work as a way to sense things in the ocean and to Amplify his Echo location (which mighty and Ray have to help find eachother.) which sounds like a whale sound mixed with an eery whistle. Ablilities: Mighty is a powerful swimmer and has his super strength with his tail,arms and of course jaw. Mighty's jaw is so powerful it has been known to tear into metal. The shell Armour on his back reinforces his strength kind of like a shield which is hard to nearly impossible to destroy. he also has tough skin which makes it so that it will take some hits to actually damage him.

Finally got Iris’ official design, colors and all!

Backstory:

Iris is the youngest daughter of 13 royal children, and considered the least favorite of the king, despite her appearance looking very similar to her grandmother, who was the high priestess of a water goddess who created the sirens and mermaids!

While not actively neglected by her family, it was clear she wasn’t a favorite of the family due to her being considered the “unlucky” youngest daughter, with 13 being considered an unlucky number. Many thought she would pass away young due to illnesses, but with the help of her mother and some of her older brothers, she always recovered.

After some time, once she hits 17, her father starts lining up suitors for her. She never wanted to be in an arranged marriage, especially when her older sister Irene was never obligated to marry to have a shot at having the throne once she reached of age and her father was too old to keep ruling.

Then again, Irene was her father’s favorite. She could behead all the other siblings and he’d still find a way to defend her, especially if their mom wasn’t around.

Once it was found out Iris was arranged to be be wed by some random old noble, she really had no choice but to run off. She was tired of the neglect and favoritism of her older sister, as Irene was considered a blessing, but Iris was a mistake..? She had enough, and with the help of her mother and two of her older sisters, she was able to get out of the palace and the whole kingdom without getting caught by anyone.

However, that didn’t mean she left without saying goodbye to her people. She bought lots of food from the shops who were still open late at night, stopped by the bookstore one last time and bought one of her favorite stories, sirenella and the crystal slippers, she even went by the florist and bought some flowers for her grandmother’s grave at the edge of the kingdom.

After paying her respects, she then went to the temple of the water goddess and prayed for a safe passage and to find new life in the over world. Then she went on with her journey to the overworld. It was a while before she found land, but once she did? She just sat there, watching the moon before she broke down into tears. She was free, but at what cost? Losing her family as she once knew it..? Knowing she might never be able to return home, even after her father’s death..? Never being able to see her mom ever again..?

Well, after some time, she was found by someone. She was an older lady, 45-50 years old, who happened to be the owner of a popular casino. After hearing her story, the two made a deal. If she could use her siren-like abilities to draw in more customers, then she’d help her find a place to stay until she could afford to stay on her own two feet.

After helping her get a dress for her first performance, Iris remembers of a song that she heard while on her travels. Siren media was closed off to the world at the time being, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t bring it to the over-world and allow others to hear the amazing music that sirens were able to create.

Ironically, this is the same Casino seelkadoom works at on night shifts. However, he was off the day of her first performance, so they didn’t meet until a few days later. In the meantime, she was an overnight sensation, and people and mobians alike were paying good money for front row seats for her next show the next night.

And the story just kind of goes on from there! ^^ I’ll try to post more content of Iris and the others together and post a facts post soon, hope you like it! <3

Anyways here’s some quick ideas:

Meropolis has only one major city in the ocean which is home to the royal family: King Puff, Queen Angelica, and of course Princess Undina. The rest of the ocean is filled with smaller cities and towns scattered about. The best way I can describe it is tears of the kingdom and breath of the wild. Where it’s all under one kingdom with little “pit stop” towns (the horse stables) and medium sized cities (the towns/domains). They sort of rule fresh water areas but only if they connect to the ocean. If you live in a lake or pond that’s up to the mainland rulers.

Fish mobians tend to not really go on land much. Mostly because they don’t have legs and risk of drying out if they get lost or injured. You’ll only really see fish mobians out and about on land if you’re in a seaside town or a lake/river town. They do have water wheel chairs but they’re pretty bulky and sometimes not water proof. So they’ll have to rent one or in Undina’s case, get one custom made. For aquatic mammals such as dolphins, pinnipeds, whales etc. they can go back and forth between having legs and a mermaid like tail. They’re usually the ones who help fish mobians get to land and are even sometimes tour guides for them.

There isn’t a real currency in Meropolis, everything is mostly done by trading. They do technically have one in sand dollars but that’s mostly used for tourists who forget to bring items to trade and they aren’t worth anything on the main land (unless you really like sea shells). Thankfully fish mobians love shiny things like shells, hooks, jewels etc. and will happily take a fork off your hands for some fish made jewelry. And don’t worry about the teeth thing in the picture, a lot of fish tend to loose and regrow back their teeth in at least two weeks. It’s the equivalent of seeing a surfer dude with a shark tooth necklace around his neck it’s normal to them.

Most Meropolis buildings consist of either organic things like giant coral/shells or sunken ships and man made objects. It isn’t surprising that if a ship sinks and the owners of the ship try to retrieve it some fish mobians would try and bargain with the owners to let them keep it as a new home or shop. More high tech buildings in the cities have air pocket rooms so air breathing mobians can visit and even stay underwater comfortably. Air charms do exist so you can breath underwater but most land dwellers don’t find it comfortable to sleep and slowly float to the ceiling or have their hair and clothes constantly flowing about.

Could you give a quick rundown of each or tell us the tags for them for people to see them? /nf

#falling stars au: sonic attempts to catch shadow after they defeat the final hazard together at the end of sa2. because of this, the two of them fall to earth together. they both lose their memories and sonic, being a regular mobian and not some science experiment freak with alien bones, breaks his leg. the story is about the past, the present, and finding your identity, but mostly it's just about wacky adventures.

#sol sonic: sonic and blaze roleswap. sonic is the (reluctant) fire prince of the sol dimension and blaze is the speedy hero of mobius.

prime shadows (#prism, #bermuda, #halcyon): fun what-if about shadow getting spliced by the paradox prism.

new yoke shadow is called prism, and he's very young, because he was made by nine after the fox stole the (abandoned) plans for him from the chaos council.

no place shadow is called bermuda, he's a siren created by gerald, but instead of space, the ark was basically atlantis, and bermuda has a horrible grudge against all surface dwellers for raiding his home and killing maria (who was a mermaid).

boscage maze shadow is called halcyon, and he was made by gerald as a solution to the megafauna problem that's plaguing the earth and making it uninhabitable for humanity, and intends to keep his promise to maria and restore the earth regardless of thorn rose's opposition.

#project nova dlc: what if eggman experimented on sonic after he got captured in sonic forces? what if he got fused with one of the chaos emeralds and was a little bit evil about it? what if infinite slowly realized his quest for unlimited power was futile, and the pain will persist so long as he continues to chase after it and forsaking what's really important, the memory of his deceased squad? what if he had a character arc???
