psst a very random question: Do gijinka void beings/vessels in your aus get fat?

Had a random dream where since theyre all light weight (cuz void), only way to know theyre 'gaining weight/fat' is when their void body has gotten squishy, even tho they look fit

So I REALLY want vessels to be able to be fat since I like drawing diverse body types and one of my friend's vessel ocs, who is canon to FaaF, is fat. However the exact method is yet to be figured out.

Current idea is that, since they can regenerate void via eating and focus, they could also gain more void than their original bodies had, essentially looking like they're gaining fat or muscle mass when in reality they're just building up void reserves. But it's not set in stone yet.

Another idea is that it's just a body type they could inherit from White Lady, she was also born quite plump and round and never lost that, so 🤷

I've been also thinking about giving Flower a tummy after one or two pregnancies but I dunno how and why yet since vessel anatomy is so much different than a human's. Going off the previous idea, and the fact that any fetuses/eggs carried by vessels absorb void much like the eggs did in the Qbyss, mmmaybe they put on some void/"fat" to accommodate thr developing fetus and just never lost it after the pregnancy?

Anyway, I got a little off course, yours is a very cute idea! I might consider it 👀

I see people saying that roy could be their godkid, and I thought of that too (and think it'd be funny asf) but that would completely mess up the ages because skid and pump have to be adults for the au so that they could be fairy godparents 😭

mmmaybe I'll make their godkid roy's kid and do some like dale dimmadome situation where the parent's life sucked and yet they never got a fairy but their kid did

Ollie and Trucks but this time they're humanized and in the Hockey AU, whoa!! they are both on the Demons team! and Ollie has alot of intense emotions he has to get out on the ice. definitely gets very flustered when he collides with someone, he's so touch starved is this his way of being touched by men? mmmaybe.

meanwhile Trucks is intense on the ice too, coming across as aggressive but he is just having a good ol time. Trucks has a reputation of being very promiscuous off ice and Ollie is very interested for no particular reason. 👀💦

in summary, i love them we love sports!!! Trucks is @darby-draws' hockey boyyyy!!

Diamond: Snakes, technically. (...even more so if you count the character inspiration of Kaa.) Cats more realistically -- especially the stereotype of being capable of deep affection, but only on their own terms and in their own time. And for being prickly otherwise.

You sent Half-Decade Hangover my way a while ago and it was On Point so here is where it'd fit into the narrative playlist, if I hadn't limited them to 5 songs. ^_^ (If I were to work it in and trim the playlist back down to 5... would probably trim out The Gambler. It and Good Grief kind of cover different points of the same turnaround point, if that makes sense.)

I also have a playlist that theoretically tries to capture the kinds of songs that I think Spire Diamond might listen to while working! (Diamond's Worklist.) By necessity it's thoroughly filtered through a) songs I myself have heard, and b) songs I myself am willing to listen to while working on occasion. xD

Special mention to The Day It Fell Apart for being folk/filk music (Diamond loves social & narrative music) and for having the kind of irreverent morbid humor that can be right up his alley. The general logistics of how monsters work is still kinda up in the air at the moment but its important for you to know three things before going forward

Humans and monsters coexist though not entirely peacefully.

Monsters use pokemon typing and often have abilities associated with it. Meaning we get people being classified as "fire type" or "psychic/fairy type".

Monsters have "monster type" classifications, such as 'Hound' or 'Fae', it should be noted that these classifications are very loose. Hound animal forms can manifest as any animal, not just dogs, and fae doesn't automatically denote a fairy type.

With that said. time to just list shit lets goooo.

Ingo is a fire type hound and Emmet is a psychic/fairy type fae. Their parents are human because the genetics are. kinda weird.

Both were. viciously mocked during their school years, this only made worse by the fact that Ingo had skipped a grade ergo neither of them could really be there for each other aside from passing period where they'd get mmmaybe a minute to chat. Both would lie about their day anyway to keep the other from worrying.

Emmet has great persuasion abilities and this terrifies him to his core. He worries a lot that he's never actually done anything to deserve the position he's in or the friends that he has because he might have accidentally persuaded people into liking him with his psychic abilities. He accidentally projects thoughts and feelings into people's heads a lot, which in turn influences their actions to either him or other people. Ingo has learned to brush these off as soon as they hit him, but other people just aren't as prepared for it. Ingo has fallen for this once and only once.

Emmet has wings but they're not really functional. There's a pattern on the feathers that can hypnotize people so he casually plays mind games with strangers to make them just. Not perceive his wings to avoid injury. Not many people even know his wings exist as a result.

Emmet has taken psychic suppressors once just to see if his concerns hold any weight but the experience was so bad that he didn't really learn anything other than he kinda relies on his abilities to get by day to day and suddenly being without them is just as terrifying as having them.

Emmet is a dream eater! he eated the dreams. That's what he does. Ingo has frequent nightmares and Emmet steals them.

Hounds animal forms are reflective of their self image. Ingo looks like a misshapen emaciated dog.

As Ingo represses his monstrous side he loses the ability to perform his element. He couldn't even shift for a while, leading him to believe he had finally beaten it out of himself. But alas, it had to force itself out eventually.

This force shift happened at work. They were just closing up but still. Very stressful.

The scars of Ingo's face are from highschool, where in kids he considered his friends muzzled him, beat him up a bit, and threw him into a shallow river. This was a contributing factor to the mental breakdown that forced him to drop out.

Team Plasma is. bad? unsurprising! We just kinda took pokemon P*TA and combined em with Autism $peaks and now they're worse! A group that initially advocated for the liberation of pokemon now haphazardly tacking on "treating monsters with basic respect" at the end of their message to take advantage of a marginalized audience? Yeah.

Ingo gets played like a goddamn fiddle by team plasma. His own experiences lead him to be very conflicted on how he feels about humans, unsure if he hates them or wants to be one. Team Plasma kinda shifts his beliefs towards the former, despite most of the group being human themselves.

Emmet is not happy about Ingo's involvement with Team Plasma.

Ingo sneaks out one day to attend some event and comes home to a incredibly pissed Emmet, demanding to know where he went and why. Ingo is more defensive than anything else and tries to defuse the situation, but Emmet accidentally projects his own rage onto him and with Ingo being caught off guard, he falls for it, and they devolve into an argument. It's nasty. It's personal. It's what Emmet wants to hear. That his brother hates him, that he's had it too easy, that his suffering isn't anywhere close to what Ingo's been through, etc. etc. etc. etc. As Ingo comes down from it, he tries to leave but Emmet grabs him. Ingo ends up slashing him across the face. The argument ends as Ingo retreats to his room and Emmet just. stands there. too shocked to say anything.

Ingo has nightmares that night.

Emmet, in some attempt to make Ingo feel better, glamours the scar away and tries to convince him that he didn't even leave a mark, but Ingo can see right through it.

They have a serious discussion regarding their feelings, school experiences, etc. etc. and it's the first time they've had a genuine talk about things in a while.

... Emmet realizes that he's missed his brother.

Wolf Ingo isn't particularly violent, he is just an animal, what he's scared of is the lack of control that comes with it. Its like being a passenger in your own body but you're also just waking up from anesthesia. He's scared of what he could do.

They will recover and go to therapy i promise i promise we're just not there yet.

What made you ship it?

I read Pet Shop of Horrors because I knew I'd be into it, but what made me shift from 'they have a fun vibe' to 'oh they're in love in love' was D running away because he doesn't know how to love a human and Leon running after him.

What are your favorite things about the ship?

Bickering frenemies who get really attached and fall in love. Leon coparenting his kid brother with D while still regularly accusing him of every felony under the sun lol. Going on a family vacation together. The hilarious "...him?" factor of mysterious supernatural being D falling in love with Leon of all possible people. The epilogue with Chris' drawing of them as a family as the thing Leon wanted to find D to return to him 😭

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Idk I vibe with the fic pretty well. Mmmaybe my semi unpopular opinion is that D's the one who needs to change to make a relationship possible, not Leon. I'm not really into fic concepts where Leon has to like, spend his time tracking D down bettering himself to be worthy or whatever. And I also got the vibe from the sequel (mediocre as it is lol) that part of the point is D changing and coming to like humanity more at least on an individual scale, and I dig that.

Fraser/Ray V (lmaooo okay so you didn't specify which Ray, because obviously you don't know that Ray was replaced by a character with the same fucking name, so I'm doing them both.)

What made you ship it?

SO I'd heard about Due South because back in like 2005/6 when file sharing comms got popular on LJ there was a burst of fandom activity in a lot of old fandoms as people shared the episodes around and they got easy to get into. Due South was one of these because it was very homoerotic and had an ending that involved Fraser and Ray riding off into the sunrise together. I was like, sounds fun, I should check it out!

It was playing in reruns on tv so when I checked it out to give it a shot the first thing I ever saw was the last five minutes of the second episode of season 1. The scene was Ray V handing Fraser a wolf license, and Fraser being shocked and overjoyed. "I only mentioned it once, and you got it for me?" "Well yeah, you asked for it right?"

And I was like, okay, I'm on board, let's go.

I only realized about halfway into season one that there were two Rays and the ship everyone talked about and hyped up was a completely different ship lmao, but it was too late, I was already sold.

What are your favorite things about the ship?

I absolutely love their mildly fucked up dynamic and the show's self-awareness about it. Fraser's central character trait is his devotion to duty at the expense of himself and his personal relationships, and Ray's is his devotion to Fraser at the expense of himself, and there are multiple episodes that exist to examine it - a little imperfectly, maybe, and without full resolution, but very intriguingly.

Ray took an explosion for Fraser in the first episode and then crawled out of the hospital and flew to the NWT just to tell Fraser something he realized about his father's death. He mortages his house for him, he takes a bullet for him - twice - he carries him on his back through a forest, and nearly every time Fraser fucks him over in return, and Ray knows it, and he keeps sacrificing himself anyway.

I also think there's some deliberate classic gay subtext there, from certain lines and relationship parallels to the overarching themes. The first season is about Fraser being on a pedestal and Ray like, looking up at him in awe, and getting real, real weird about the possibility that his sister slept with him towards the end of the season, which reads as jealousy but also a sort of rejection of the idea of Fraser being touchable. And then he confronts his sister about it, and her response is to tell Ray that he's afraid to dream and reach for what he really wants. Which, I mean, come the fuck on, there's literally only one thing that could possibly apply to. And then the finale happens and that's all about Fraser falling off his pedestal and turning out to be human after all.

I also like that season 2 puts them on a bit more of an equal footing. They hash a lot of this out in the first chunk of season 2 after the season 1 finale shitshow, and Ray sees Fraser's flaws more clearly and Fraser starts to appreciate Ray more. By the end of the season they're pointedly very in sync. But their issues are never completely resolved either, which makes it like, perfect for fic imo - you can see how their relationship would develop further and how those flaws could be fully resolved with Fraser's continuing growth as a person.

Oh also I love Ray's constant constant bitching in contrast to his extreme loyalty. He will do uncountable amounts petty dumb annoying shit for Fraser and whine about it the entire time, but also if it's serious, he'll do it without ever saying a word about it. I love that Ray will bitch Fraser's ear off about having to drive him around the city during a basketball game he wants to watch, but he'll sing duets with him while carrying him around the Canadian wilderness.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Hmm. Idk, I think most people who ship it have a similar take on their relationship to some extent. Well, I don't think this is unpopular (but it's maybe not the most popular interpretation), but I really like the idea of Ray's stupid intense loyalty to Fraser easily overcoming the internalized homophobia he'd have from his roman catholic upbringing and abusive father. Like flipping a switch - oh Fraser is dtf, well then no problem, not even an issue, what's a sexuality crisis after nearly dying for this guy fifty times?

Why don’t you ship it?

I tried, I genuinely really did lol. I really wanted to like it so I'd be able to enjoy all the fic, and I knew I might have a loyalty issue wrt Fraser/RayV so I specifically started watching the RayK seasons while I was still going through season 2 the first time to try to combat that.

Didn't work. My problem isn't the ship, really, it's the whole show. I don't like how it changed after Paul Gross took over - even mid season 2 has some of these problems tbh, though not quite as bad. But yeah I don't like season 3/4's tone, the themes completely shifted to basically the exact opposite (let's just say Fraser returning to the Canadian north would not be a happy ending according to season 1), the scope got way too big, the magical part of magical realism got too excessive, and, frankly, the writing got kind of shitty lol. I legitimately consider Due South season 1 to be the best piece of episodic storytelling I've seen. Season 2 is mostly fine. Seasons 3+4 just get purposelessly wacky and weird.

There's one episode I legitimately thought had to be a fucking dream sequence when I first watched it because it was so nonsensical and weird, and that's about when I knew I wasn't gonna be able to get into it.

What would have made you like it?

Better writing probably lol.

Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

Facilitates Ray/Ray which can be pretty good.
