My students always ask why I have a framed case of dirt on the wall of my classroom, so here’s the story:
This wooden plaque contains MLB Authenticated Dirt from the final season at the old Yankee Stadium and can be verified by its numbered hologram. Located in the Bronx, NY, Yankee Stadium opened on April 18, 1923 and officially closed its doors on September 21, 2008. While they made their home at the House That Ruth Built, the Yankees won a record 26 World Series titles.
As a lifelong fan of the team, it’s just cool to have some of the actual infield dirt from such an iconic ballpark. Plus, it’s a fun conversation piece! ⚾🏟️

The plans included the ballpark being downtown and the total cost being around $2 billion. The Royals owner, John Sherman, claimed in a letter to fans that a new ballpark was financially necessary for the team’s future success. He also mentioned that a…

Rob reviews: Comerica Park, Detroit, MI
This is a review that is 24 years in the making. because today, after attending 89 baseball games there, I have finally decided to review Comerica Park. Comerica Park in the heart of downtown Detroit on what is the city’s most famous street, Woodward Avenue. Fun fact: Woodward Avenue was actually the first paved road in the United States. However, the decision to leave Tiger Stadium, the Tigers…

⚾️ We read The Denver Post article this past weekend about the National Ballpark Museum and couldn’t help but frame it up for Mr. Hellerstein as a gift! Thanks for being a wonderful and important part of the LoDo District community!

Teams continue to make millions yet want their property tax slashed
Last week, I saw an article in the San Francisco Chronicle that the Giants will likely need to open their wallets t0 the taxman due to their property, Oracle Park, being undervalued from 2015-2017 by a local assessment board. To keep it elementary, sports teams/owners want their property to be valued at a low level so that their property taxes are also lower. But we aren’t talking a few dollars…
