like its such a silly thing to be angry about in general when i used to get really mad that people would call patrick the antag of mlandersen, when truly he was also a protag for a lot of reasons, i think it comes down to like... people think there are Evil Alters when rlly theres a reason theres a persecutor to protector pipeline.

Hey you're kind of the local slenderseries expert, and we've (mostly Rute) have been considering making our own for years, and while we definitely have our own ideas and stuff I gotta ask: What advice would you have for us? Stuff to avoid, whether it's just common flaws or overdone, maybe stuff you wish was more prominent in the uh, genre I guess?

sdjlfklsdfjsd oh jeez uh! i’d hardly call myself an expert but i do have Thots so like. i guess some of the big things for anyone looking into starting an arg would be like

1) if you want puzzles you need to have a character driven purpose behind them! it’s tempting to just slap a puzzle into something in order to create viewer engagement but even in a mechanically driven story if you don’t have some kind of underlying story or character reason to have puzzles it will make your story feel super empty in the long run!

2) be careful with cults! everyone has a cult storyline these days and it’s very easy to make them come off silly, especially if you don’t have a strong understanding of how cults operate or your actors don’t pull it off well because of acting skill or age (big problem with whispered faith and dh is that the cult members are clearly all 22 year olds). also come up with a cool name for stuff like people don’t just call themselves ‘the order’ in real life god damn!!

3) for slenderverse stuff in particular, slenderman is a really malleable monster like depending on the power set you give him and ways you use him he can stand in for anything, so it’s good to have a strong secondary antagonist who can bring more clarity to the type of story you’re telling. you can generally tell the strength of one of these series by the strength of their secondary antagonist, like habit vs patrick or the collective vs whatever the fuck was happening in tjap

4) we probably have enough stories where the main character was evil the whole time so unless you have a Really good innovation on that trope then i’d probably avoid that for now

5) be economical with your dialog. mlandersen is fucking UNWATCHABLE because the characters just drone on forever without actually saying anything and you can see a similar problem in some of sindelar’s other work. same with plot beats, like resist the urge to hammer an idea into the ground. with a webseries it’s better to be a little too sparse than to lay it on too thick imo
