Kai "suggested" that he take a picture of them both, y'know, for the memories.

I decided that I'm gonna make a list of some of the details and ideas I've had for this au, so here we go.

Jay, Cole, Kai, and Zane are 17, and Nya and Lloyd are 16

As of rn, Jay has the Ladybug miraculous and goes by Lightning Bug, Cole has the Cat miraculous and goes by Mau Kem, Kai gets to use the Fox miraculous and I'm thinking about calling him Revontulet (Finnish word for the Aurora borealis, literally means fox fire according to google), Zane I'm thinking would use the Turtle, Lloyd is going to be the Snake but I haven't thought of a name yet, and I dont know what to do for Nya but I kind of want to do Dragon

Jay lives on the outskirts of Ninjago City, where it borders the desert, with his parents in their scrapyard

He goes to a slightly upper class school, through scholarships (like for inventions and stuff), so he lives in the dorms and no one knows he grew up in a junkyard

Kai and Nya do know though, and have been friends with him since elementary school (I think I'm not going to have Ray and Maya dissapear, it'd just be to complicated)

They still have their elemental powers and they all discovered them about the same time, about a year before Jay and Cole get the miraculous

They all pretty much kept their powers secret, except Lloyd told Garmadon (oni are too complicated as well, so we get Good Dad) and Wu, and Kai and Nya told each other

Lou was very successful w his dancing and singing, and he became famous and rich and whatnot

Lou made Cole do vocals and dance as he grew up, he still does but he also allows Cole more freedom since he does so well, and since Lou is very busy with things

Jay didn't really like Cole when he first met him because he thought he was just another entitled rich kid, but he figured out that Cole is really kind and thoughtful and now he has a huge crush on him

Cole has a scar going from above his left eye to beside his eye from an accident when he was younger, but he doesn't like people asking about it so he hides it with makeup

Cole was pretty sheltered as a child

He was never really close with his father, but he was very close with his mother until she died when he was about 10 ("died" ;) )

Cole feels like he can really joke around some and have fun when he's Mau Kem, because no one is holding him to high standards as Lou's son, so he goes out on patrol as often as he can

Theres definitely more but I've already written a lot.

Yes it is Lou! I made a sketch of his villain outfit but I'm trying to make it not look ridiculous. I think Hawkmoth's outfit in miraculous is kinda stupid (mostly just the mask, really), so I've been trying to figure something out.

Hey my man, I gotta say I really like your rewrites/fixes of the ML series! like I haven't watched the show proper in ages just cuz of disappointment, but I got an OC(s) that I don't wanna give up on with it. What would you say to a Firefly-themed miraculous in your style piloted by a disabled girl in a wheelchair? Like how would I make her fit in your ver of the world?

Ooohh?? Fishing for free art??? jk, I tease. A firefly, huh? I like the name Glou. Kindness would be their thing.

In my main rewrite, there wouldn’t be a place for a firefly hero, as there are ONLY 3 miraculous and such. Kwami and miraculous are only tangentially related. But their corrupted form sounds good for a darkness-related enemy.

Ah, I can see it now, an akuma that steals light wherever it goes, selfishly hoarding it for itself... and it is defeated by putting the fire out. ;D

My rewrites/aus tend to cut the fat of extra characters and unnecessary concepts, so I can’t really tell you how they would fit in. But I can spitball a bit?

I’m not practiced in making characters in wheelchairs, but I would imagine the miraculous wouldn’t “fix” their disability rather than change to accommodate it. So perhaps floating is a natural part of the moveset. 

Fireflies and floating give me paper lantern vibes or even hot air balloons, so fire seems appropriate rather than lightning (some people like to use the name lightning bug instead!) My light research also tells me that the bug themselves are popular for putting into said lanterns. so.. Theming? Paper lanterns definitely.

Some people use a lantern to search, so a dowsing rod would be a cool “weapon” to have, especially if they have a lantern hanging off the end of it.  I would grant them the ability to find anything they’re looking for (except for other miraculous users, to keep it from being overpowered). they would grab the ends of the Y shaped rod and it would glow and point in the direction they need to go to find the object.

I would take more time to look into more cultural implication, myths and folklore around fireflies, but otherwise, that’s how I would do it.

Chibi ml au!

Thank you @rumibug for suggesting that Jay be called Lightning Bug!! That is perfect! They also suggested Cole be called Mau, so it'll either be Black Mau, Mau Noir, or Mau Kem. Feel free to tell me which one you all like best, because I am honestly torn between all of them.

Hi!! I have a lot for the au (thought up at least, I haven't written anything down anywhere), I actually thought about it yesterday and was doing a digital on my phone to play with the colors! I really liked playing with the fire in the background

I give you Revontulet! The hotheaded fox hero who was the next to show up after Lightning Bug and Mau Kem.

Kai and Nya both found out about their elemental abilities at the same time, and they both got their miraculous' at the same time. When Lightning Bug's luck charm told him to go to Wu during a particularly hard battle, Wu directed him back to the fight and gave Kai and Nya the Fox and the Dragon miraculous', so they know each other's identities (which would've happened anyways bc they know each other's elements). Wu let them keep the miraculous' after the fight in case Mau Kem or Lightning Bug ever need help.

Wu and Garmadon have a dojo where Jay, Cole, Kai, Lloyd, Nya, and Zane all study martial arts and self defense, so the team is a bit closer to the Guardians of the Miraculous than Marinette and Adrien are. There are, of course, other students, but they're the top of their class at the dojo. They're also more of a team than in ml because all of them keep their miraculous rather than return them.

(Yes Garmadon is also guardian bc c'mon this is Wu we're talking about)

Kai and Nya were confused when Wu approached them about it because they already knew him as the wise old sensei, and now shows up in the middle of a disaster and apparently he had some magic jewelry that he's been guarding for like 200 years or something?? And now they're going to be superheroes alongside the two strongest people in Ninjago City and fight some evil possessed people? Needless to say they were excited and nervous once they got over the shock.
