Although I have Japanese heritage, I initially learnt the language from watching animes. I love the flow of Neil Sedaka‘s piece and reinterpreted it into a jazz ballad. A great track to play live!

Benyamin & I recorded just the one take to which I added my violin solos🎻 #Gundam

I perform jazz more often these days but haven’t yet released a jazz album (on the cards!), so this was such an amazing opportunity to record in a Dolby Atmos studio.

zeta gundam's second OP "Mizu no Hoshi e Ai wo Komete" is a love song. does this reflect the fact that gundam is primarily a series about the connections between people, about how by learning to understand one another we can survive through war, perhaps even grow beyond it? no. it reflects the fact that you should want to kiss the robots

I did a little digging into why, exactly, the original openings and endings for Zeta Gundam are so rare to come by nowadays. There are other examples I can think of where this happened- The Big O had to replace both of its openings with an original buttrock song because the originals were homages that most likely hewed a bit too close to their sources, and more recently, Neon Genesis Evangelion has had Fly Me To The Moon ripped out of most modern releases because it’s a licensing nightmare- but I couldn’t figure out why these original songs were so problematic.

The credits list Neil Sedaka as the composer for all three of the songs, but upon closer inspection all three are actually just adapted from songs of his that already existed. For example, Z - Toki wo Koete is Better Days Are Coming:

and Hoshizora no Believe is Bad and Beautiful:

It seems like what happened is that Sunrise legally acquired the rights to some of Sedaka’s songs, including one that was never actually released that was adapted into Mizu no Hoshi e Ai wo Komete, and they just stripped out everything but the melodies. So when the time came to release Zeta Gundam outside of Japan, the legalities involved in getting the rights for those songs would’ve been needlessly complicated and/or expensive, especially since I think Zeta Gundam was a budget release for Bandai, since the dub was done by Ocean’s budget studio.

Still unfortunate that it’s never been rectified, but at least there’s a more tangible explanation than just “copyright problems”

Hiroko Moriguchi's Next Gundam Cover Album Comes with a Custom Model Kit

  In 2019, singer Hiroko Moriguchi released an album of Mobile Suit Gundam song covers to celebrate the franchise's 40th anniversary. Since then, she's released a second with even more songs from across the many series. In March, she's dropping one more, marking GUNDAM SONG COVERS 3 as "final chapter" in her series of song covers.

  Moriguchi's connection to Gundam goes all the way back to 1985, when her debut single "Mizu no Hoshi e Ai wo Komete" served as the second opening theme for Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. For this album, she'll be covering songs originally performed by male vocalists: the openings of the original Gundam series, Turn A Gundam, and many more.

    Guitarist Kotaro Oshio and violinist Naoko Terai, who both appeared on the previous two GUNDAM SONG COVERS albums, return as performers. Keep an ear out for more collaborators across the album — including rock band TM Network, who will join Moriguchi for a new version of their theme to Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack.

    Lots of special editions and bonus goods will be up for grabs. Fans have their pick of an LP release, a box to hold all three albums, a Blu-ray containing extra music videos, and a clear file of the new album's cover art. For fans who want to go really big, there's even a set that includes a Zeta Gundam (Hiroko Moriguchi ver.) plastic model kit:

    GUNDAM SONG COVERS 3 comes out March 22. LP editions and special-edition model kits will be available for pre-order starting December 21.

21. top 5 songs?oh my god ok this is so difficult..... not in any specific order:- benedictus - simon & garfunkel (honestly i just love S&G and it was hard to pick one song)- gypsy - fleetwood mac (this song really influenced my graduating collection and it played during my fashion show so it has a lot of meaning to me)- listing the entire discovery album by daft punk because it’s been my favourite for many years- mizu no hoshi e ai wo komete - hiroko moriguchi (zeta gundam op 2)- only finally there is the free end - GOATBED (because it’s my most played song on itunes and i thought that was important)

27. most expensive item of clothing?a lot of my vintage pieces were pretty expensive... i have a 1950s silk chiffon dress from france and it was $400

45. do you have/want any tattoos?yes i’ve wanted a tattoo for a very long time... unfortunately i’m so unconfident in myself right now and i know that i will regret it immediately if i ever got one TT as soon as i’m in a good place in my life i will 100% get one... jane eyre is my most favourite book and i feel very close to the story and jane herself.... i have some quotes in mind that i would love as a tattoo, or maybe some bird imagery since the book uses that a lot!
