Relationship dynamics between my oc and the Crisis Core characters: Part 2

Genesis

The story of their friendship, summed up:

They don’t get along at first, and it’s a problem. Genesis hates the idea of another magical master climbing the ranks at soldier

There is a rivalry that Genesis attempts to initiate. Elyse isn’t interested; she doesn’t want drama so early in her work life at Shinra (especially since she’s already known for being the adorable daughter of a materia Professor, Professor Tetherann)

At some point, with the other soldiers watching (including Sephiroth, who is waiting to see what the newbie does), she does reciprocate the rivalry, but she tries to remain cold and professional on the battlefield, rarely engaging in banter

It isn’t until she banters back about his Loveless blabbing that she really gets anywhere with learning how to defend herself in a social situation (and notices the lively reaction of her colleagues when she finally does, which then motivates her to find other bantering phrases and a few insults)

At one point she beats Genesis in what was supposed to be a practice spar on magic attacks only. Genesis was the one who challenged her, and she had had enough, going all out to get him to leave her alone.

Deeply humiliated, Genesis retreats.

While at first Elyse is happy to be rid of such tense energy, she notices how Genesis retreats, and makes a point to talk to him once the excitement subsides.

She learns from Angeal about the long standing friendship between them, and asks for his advice. Eventually, Angeal takes her to see Genesis, and Angeal being the person who understands both of them, talks to Genesis before Elyse apologizes.

With a bruised ego it takes a while for Genesis to warm up to her, that is, until he sees a playbook in her hands after a weekend vacation; they then quickly bond over their mutual love for the fine arts, fashion, and other things

Genesis is a gossip, and Elyse is a good listener, who is pretty good at keeping secrets unless absolutely necessary

Once that entire rivalry arc is over, they’re like siblings: Genesis won’t stop teasing her about her crush on Sephiroth once he figures it out, and tries to give her advice

Big extrovert brother+ introverted little sister dynamic where older brother embarrasses little sister a lot

The one thing they can agree on doing, however, is causing chaos on purpose with their magical masteries

They have definitely set shit on fire/caused explosions to get training canceled (for various reasons, a common one being that they wanted to spend time with ASZC)

The only problem is that sometimes Elyse is a little shit and doesn’t take credit with him (because no one suspects her and it’s funny)

So the two have some occasional tugs of war in power, mostly initiated by Genesis, but they do learn to get along and become friends

Elyse didn’t suspect Genesis’s desertion until she realized how many soldiers left with him

It wasn’t until Angeal disappeared that she connected that Genesis would also be involved

Their relationship as friends slowly falls in shambles because Elyse doesn’t realize that degrading affects his mental state

As a result some nasty things are said in their encounters, particularly Genesis has sensitive information about Elyse because her mother also deserted Shinra to be in league with Hollander (he’s the one who tells her she’s an experiment, and that if she doesn’t leave shinra, Hojo will try to turn her into breeding grounds for his next project concerning soldiers)

Genesis’s sneering eventually causes Elyse to snap, and she fights him in battle

She defeats him a lot more easily than she thought he would, and it isn’t until Sephiroth pulls her away that she realizes she had gotten stronger than Genesis

It was the angriest Elyse had ever been at Genesis, and it was terrifying, and unfortunately their last encounter before Nibelheim

It isn’t until Elyse realizes much later that both Angeal and Genesis were degrading, that she pieces things together.

Elyse, during her journey alone after Nibelheim, unleashes the cries and sorrow her journey held, sending her sorrowful apologies to the planet, including her sorrows for Angeal and Genesis. Even if they don’t meet again, her message is carried to where Genesis is sealed away. She will never know this, but Genesis will receive her message at some point, as the apologies are acknowledged by Minerva and the Lifestream

Anyway, after months of observation and hesitation, I’ve finally started interacting with the Far Cry subreddit. We’ll see how that goes...

Anyway, I recently watched some playthroughs of Hades 2 (and 1) and I really loved the character illustrations they had, so I wanted to try and sort of take inspiration from the style, and see what I can learn from it.

I decided to draw Helias for this experiment, as he needed a design upgrade anyway. I have few other characters on the drawing list too that I'd like to utilize for this.

(I'm imagining Helias is speaking to the kids of my story's main fam, Hitomi and Ichirou, in that bottom fake screenshot. Shaell is their 'Deity/King' as their family are Soul Eaters, although only Helias refers to him by his first name, he's mainly known as Amaros)

I left the BG for the last one simple as I currently had no proper ideas for it.

(ALSO. I can't believe it took me almost 10 years to realize that Helias' name came from a greek myth. I LEGIT forgot about Helios being a thing, I did not give my boy a similar name on purpose I swear)

OK SO. Lore

Krills reside in Wasteland, the place currently experiencing constant cloud cover.

krill were not there before the cloud cover was there.

Krills also reside near the top of Eden Peak.

in-between wasteland and eden lies vault...

so why havent krills spread to vault?

In the crescent oasis, krills are seen in the final quest. when a storm is raging.

ok so. krill have bad eyesight. they kill creatures of light.

but when the krill try to attack something but realize it has the Krill Juice on it (krill repellent) they fly away. Crabs just so happen to produce Krill Juice. on their bodies.

perhaps crabs (their children) get mistaken for light creatures and get attacked, but the krill's antennae detect the pheromones (krill juice) and divert before any harm can be done.

Crabs have shells, their real bodies are exposed in the bottom thats why they pull their legs in when they get attacked but not flipped and also why they hate being flipped

krills have metal exoskeletons and their real bodies are inside and thats why krill are so clink clonk

So krill are adult crabs. but why dont krill exist in the kingdom before wasteland and eden were engulfed in storm?

ITS SIMPLE

crabs can only fully mature DURING A STORM OF THAT SIZE

THE STORM HAS DIED DOWN THATS WHY ALL THE CRABS IN WASTELAND ARENT KRILLS

crabs: forest, valley, wasteland, vault, eden

krill: wasteland, eden

the crabs are everywhere but the krill are only where there was once/ is a great storm

putting my answer under read more as it's long -ymir

Crabs are actually have signs of being native to the realms (see: the passive crabs from Sanctuary, that iirc don't shed darkness), and seem to actively be mostly corrupted by darkness (the crabs from the shard events having active darkness on them, leading them to become hyper aggressive and those passive crabs do not attack players).

Crabs are creatures of the dark, but it is likely from the fact they're suppose to show that darkness has always been in the realms and that before what wiped out the spirits it was very peaceful (mostly). Places like Hidden Forest were darkness mining sites, and it likely made many sickly and polluted the areas leading to the rain being worse. The bells used to call the rain away and to call for the rain likely was used to try and control the dangers of this build up, controlling when spirits would have to take cover most likely.

The description of Prairie's Elder pin also pushes at it being an agricultural center for the Realms, as hinted by its landscape as well. It is VERY likely the bells used also pushed away the pollutants from hitting Prairie as heavily (but it still hit the lower regions, seeing Sanctuary's large darkness plants and pollutants.)

Darkness affects Valley less due how high it is, but it still has gotten hit due to how close it is to the center of the factories. Golden Wastelands was where a good majority of the factories were (and mostly off to the side from the main path, but WERE linked and using pipes to move around darkness), and due to this, it had become highly polluted over time leading to the dangers and likely pushing for new solutions to lead away the creatures that were becoming a problem, as well as internal fights. Wastes HEAVILY hints to it being highly dangerous but made mostly to try and protect Vault from harm and protections against enemies (in some old concept art, there's some old details of other things that was planned originally to be some dangers, but most aren't much a concern to consider due to being scrapped). There's more things about vault that makes me curious, mostly the use of HOW the archival systems work likely using a mixture of darkness that reacts to light to produce energy (which we do see in places like the abyss areas iirc and no longer simply concept art). the use of darkness here likely also caused there to have some spills or leeching to allow darkness to affect any creatures inside as well. The Ghost light creatures inside are their own curiosity to me, but not of concern here too either.

but Eden? oh boy.

Eden obviously has architecture of a very important site to the culture of the spirits at least, and it's also very likely used to be a factory of it's own or at least some sort of possible experimental grounds. (there are hints of other things, but ya know, silly lil things :)!) Eventually the eye is shown to have occurred, and is possibly shown to have started to chip off as well.

why did I write down a good summary of the lore linking towards darkness in general?(skipping over some other seasonal stuff mostly) I think the krills can be from multiple things in origins in reality.

Krills are beings that hunt light, and can still be tricked from covering yourself in darkness. The potions of krill repellent likely use darkness to make it look like it would for their vision of crabs, darkness falling off of them. it's likely made to be far more safe for skykids though.

Krills- or dark dragons, could simply be mantas corrupted, whales as well, etc. They could easily be many species put into one. They're dark creatures caused by the pollution of darkness, typically pushed on by darkness taking over an entire area, suggesting that they're an entity of darkness as a whole. They react the same way dark crystals do as well, turning red and hurting light creatures. They're simply seemingly following the dark crystals and how they react. Blue dark crystals are ones that show that they are not longer active or have reached a neutral state (likely the state they were originally mined at and then refined away from), and the skykid statues you can not help on the path at the end of Eden before the Eye's storm have these blue crystals growing on them that no longer react to skykids and you can't revive these two skykids leading to the chance of them being from the mass explosion of energy of the Eye's start.

Storm clouds are a sign of darkness in Sky, its very likely rain from before was less dangerous. Crabs being thrown FROM the shards could be crabs grown from the darkness or originally in that sacred area that ate up the remaining light left over from light creatures going to be reborn, which could be a point of them simply originally being scavengers of sorts like some real crabs.

Krill horns likely do have their own use most likely than possibly being antennae, I believe personally them being mostly for the advantage of being able to still attack their prey: making it difficult for prey to escape from flying over the head due to the krill's head without the horns being in the way. Krills metallic sounds could also be possibly connected to the darkness within them since darkness is far more solid than fluid (darkness creatures typically having sharper edges or entirely like smoke, compared to light creatures having this fluidity to them even when complex like skykids.)

Dark dragons are a curiosity though, given how they're created either way.

Its left lens creaks as it hovers slightly more northwards. Its right lens clumsily follows suit until it's pointed towards the ceiling. Then, both of them swerve in a downwards circle until they reach the bottom of the bells, swinging aimlessly for a few seconds before eventually correcting themselves. Rolled eyes. He just rolled his eyes at you. How much effort did that take?

They are hedonistic by nature, they contribute very little to the whole of society, they always prioritize play over work as even their forms of 'work' are still a manner of play, they have next to no survival instincts, they rarely pursue their studies at school and instead prefer to engage in heaps of extracurricular activities, they discriminate against the Octarians over trivial differences and a petty war, they have a sport centered around said war, the NSS recruits juveniles that they can feed their anti-Octarian propaganda to, they care more about the next fashion catalog rather than attempting to improve the environment, they treat Salmonids like literal animals due only to a language barrier and cultural differences-- I could go on. I really could."

Criticisms of the Inklings took an overwhelming priority; it almost forgot to address Octolings entirely.

"Octolings are a bit too heavily militaristic, and they enlist prepubescent children in military training. Their society is extremely stifling on its youths and many of the soldiers I have seen are emotionally constipated or otherwise stunted in some form. You can tell they are utterly miserable, because all it takes is a song from some Inkling pop idols to make thousands of them defect from the army. Apparently. But they have excellent technological growth, and their species is generally more intelligent and disciplined than Inklings. Both species have glaring flaws that make them highly susceptible to repeating humanity's mistakes, which I do not want, but Octolings are more reliable and have greater potential, therefore I use an excess of them for my operations."

Some of its loose wires droop wearily as its linguistic programs simmer down from the prolonged period of impassioned ranting.

"I admire humans and what they achieved. Yes. But I am not oblivious to their flaws. I was specifically created to prevent their flaws and mistakes from being repeated. Inklings might as well be an overblown representation of what made humans so foolish and reckless. I absolutely detest Inklings. Octarians are creatures I pity. Their species is also decidedly beyond saving for as long as Inklings are in the picture and continue to influence them. Since neither species seems worthy of humanity's knowledge, I am taking it upon myself to start the landscape anew with humanity's second-coming." it concluded.

Ok played more veilguard today. The writing is definitely. Hm. Well it's been said plenty by people much more invested in the lore than me. But at the very least, what I Can say, is that the game is Fun. Though I need a front liner desperately. I'm a rogue playing at front liner and I suck at dodging and I keep getting the shit beat out of me. But it's ok I've pulled through 👍 with quick and nimble reflexes and my beloved Potion Stealing Skill.

Angeal

Headcanons

Elyse looks up to Angeal as a mentor and big brother

Angeal sees Elyse as a pupil and a friend, sometimes like a younger sibling

Elyse was sent to work with Angeal originally for improving her swordplay (her main weapon is a staff; she sucks with swords at first until Angeal takes her in as a student)

She’s eager to learn and please, which he finds endearing, but also reminds her she doesn’t have to please everyone to be good at what she does

They both share an interest in cooking and dogs

When they do cook, Elyse has a stronger skill in a few particular dishes, but especially desserts and baking. Angeal is skillful all around. Both of them exchange ideas and recipes frequently.

On nights that they team up to cook for their friends, those dinner nights end up being some of the best

As his student, Angeal notices Elyse is also very puppy-like, which then starts the running joke that Angeal is a puppy magnet (Genesis says he’s a master dog trainer, partially to get the puppies’ goats)

Upon realizing that Elyse and Zack share similar energy, he once said “My goddess, there’s two of you”

Which then ensued in Zack and Elyse running with it, being a chaotic sibling duo

Angeal does appreciate the fact Elyse has a little more restraint than Zack does, and appears to know when to be mature at times

It doesn’t stop Angeal from having to be the dad friend though

The amount of times he’s lectured both Zack and Elyse is beyond the digits on his body

He has had to remind Elyse on several occasions that if she’s gonna rescue a dog from a mission, she has to keep it in her area (more crack posts about that later)

He will absolutely call someone out if they try to make a negative comment on Elyse (she is sensitive, and while she has learned eventually how to hide it, he doesn’t like seeing her upset)

Is a little protective of her when they’re out and about; he can tell when Elyse’s social anxiety is up

Inversely if she hears anyone talking shit about Angeal then it’s (verbally) on-sight

Angeal is one of the first people after Zack to discover Elyse’s crush on Sephiroth

He supports it, but seeing how opposite Sephiroth and Elyse appear at first, he’s wondering why Elyse likes him (other than reasons many people like him)

He doesn’t give as much advice on love to Elyse, as much as he does dreams and honor, and just generally how to be a professional

Warning: Angst, mentions of loss and grief

After the invasion on Fort Tamblin, Elyse is the first to suspect something is up with Angeal

When Zack is in denial of Angela’s betrayal, Elyse doesn’t say anything, but instead begins to ponder why that might be, as she is aware Shinra is not the most ethical company

When she does encounter Angeal after he leaves they are alone, and Elyse had been looking for her mother, who disappeared around the same time as Genesis

Angeal is the first to reveal to Elyse that her existence, like his, was part of a project (Elyse’s project is entirely separate, having been founded by her mother, and her mother leaves to rebel against Shinra with Hollander)

Angeal attempts to recruit Elyse, and reveals some stolen documents about ner origins, and mentions that her mother is alive and safe

Before Elyse gives him any response, she insists that they tell Zack and Sephiroth, so they can all leave together.

That can’t happen though, so they have a fight for the first time.

Elyse ends up wounding him out of strong emotions, and feels immense guilt

She ends up healing him before she leaves, and as this happens, her wings appear for the first time, and she panics, thinking she would be in danger if she went back to Shinra with them still out

She learns from the stolen documents that her wings are activated under certain circumstances in certain environments, which then allows her to keep the wings a secret for a while

Angeal and Elyse both have white wings, but Elyse has one on each side, giving her the appearance of a cherub.

She eventually learns that her wings are connected to JENOVA cells, and learns of project G from the stolen documents. When she learns of the defective genes of Angeal and Genesis, she feels empathy for them, but doesn’t excuse the fact they left without a word

She does see this as abandonment, and calls Angeal and Genesis out on it (this puts a rift between them, and it isn’t until Elyse realizes that they’re suffering from experimental defects that she realizes what’s happening to them)

Elyse is devastated, and she apologizes to Angeal at a rendezvous point under the alias of ‘Magdalene’, expecting nothing in return, but states that she can’t just leave her friends behind, and she will stay with them until they are ready to leave. She returns the documents to him, and thanks him for everything

Angeal respects it, and the two come to honor each other’s goals, even if they don’t agree

Elyse isolates herself after Angeal’s, only coming out to check on or seek Sephiroth for comfort because she knows how much Angeal meant to both of them. (When Zack is away in Costa del Sol, she doesn’t want to bother him on vacation, so she straight up has a depression moment for months on end after Angeal dies, and limits her own reach out of fear of bothering her friend)

When Elyse hears about Angeal’s spirit taking form, she confirms having seen that same form in a dream. She realizes the dream she had was real

In that dream, she begged Angeal for forgiveness for not understanding his situation earlier. He had granted that to her, and told her to continue looking after their friends, and to be brave in the face of things to come. He doesn’t blame her, and states that like many, she is another innocent soul caught in the crossfire of Shinra’s doing.

Elyse promises to Angeal that she will do everything she can to protect her friends. (This makes the ending of Crisis Core an absolute heart-shattering moment for all characters involved, Iykyk)

Phew! Anyway, I hope y’all enjoyed this :)
