Elven armor through the time's

Since I'm drawing Gil-galad In armor right know it got me thinking.

First of all movie armor is stupid.

With so many weak spot open one might think the elves want their high king death.

Anyway I couldn't sleep yesterday so I basically wrote a essay about elven armor- in my head. Like any sane person would do.

Elven armor made in Aman

It think it should be very pretty, heroic looking.

utterly useless in real combat and war. (Think fantasy armor for women)

Because feanor and his generation don't know War.

Something like this. So many openings.

Elven armor in middle earth before the fall of the trees.

Boiled leather (hardened leather),beautifully carved. filligran and light.

Bronze and Dwarven craft in between.

Reasons: Tin and copper (=bronze) is found very easily on the ground level.

Wood land elves would prefer lighter armor

Dwarven craft has horrendous prices- if you aren't Dwarven friend.

Elves in middle earth after the fall of the trees (noldors living there)

Still very heroic looking armor if you have a high enough position.

But all Practical and alot of heavy armor.

Steel, gamberson. Chainmail. The whole nine yards.

Reasons They are staying for war and orc arrows are no joke.

Gondolin and mitrill

This made me think hard.

We know that there is a chainmail shirt in child size. (Frodo and bilbo are tiny) That means there must had been an elven child wearing it once.

Probably a squire. Who then got unalived by trolls (or before and they just looted him).

Why I am conflicted with mitrill

Well hypothetical everyone could just fight in simple mitrill shirts.

But that wouldn't look good. (think very shiny onesie)

Mitrill is still a metal it would not be very breathable.

And wrapping it in clothes would be so-so. I think it would look good if one would drape some cloth over it so the shine looks like stars. Very fancy ,very elven.

So my take on Gondolin armor is

Gilded armor like this,but silver/white looking, for the lords and lady's +heralds of the houses.

for other warriors mitrill would be just used on the weaker points in normal armor like armpits neck, crotch.

You know all of the parts that gil-galads armor in ROP doesn't care about.

I think all helmets would be gilded with mitrill for the fancy look.

There should be differences in armor style like "bluing" or "tempering" the mitrill and other smiting shenanigans.

That would make some fancy and practical armor.

And I fully believe that mitrill is a very rare metal that either was just used in Gondolin or the dwarves mined it and made fancy jewelry out of it ?

I don't think that they made armor for themselves out of mitrill.??

But when somebody has more information about that topic or headcanons or anything please do not hesitate to write your own thoughts to me!!
